Louis was recently mentioned as an artist who used Decoy Studios in Suffolk, UK for a songwriting camp in 2021.

This summer’s writing camps hosted at Cenzo Townshend’s Suffolk-based Decoy Studios were supported by the likes of Ed Sheeran, Lewis Capaldi, Clean Bandit, Sam Smith, Anne-Marie, Stargate, Medusa, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Max Martin, Steve Mac and Billen Ted. Such was their popularity that the count of Audient’s iD14 and iD44 audio interfaces was raised to meet demand.

Writing camps are organised by artists’ management or label and, according to Clarke, have proves to be a great success this year: ‘Decoy Studios offers well equipped rooms, naturally lit spaces and acres of beautiful surrounding countryside. This combination provides clients the workspace they need to collaborate talent, minimise distraction and maximise the creation of new music.’

Louis was tagged in a post from the studio’s Instagram account in January 2022. Robert Harvey, Theo Hutchcraft, and David Sneddon were all tagged in the post.

Nick Cave The Bad Seeds - "From Her To Eternity" - Live 1989

Nicholas Edward Cave AO FRSL (born 22 September 1957) is an Australian singer, songwriter, poet, lyricist, author, screenwriter, composer and occasional actor. Known for his baritone voice and for fronting the rock band Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Cave's music is characterised by emotional intensity, a wide variety of influences and lyrical obsessions with death, religion, love and violence.

Born and raised in rural Victoria, Cave studied art in Melbourne before fronting the Birthday Party, one of the city's leading post-punk bands, in the late 1970s. In 1980 they evolved towards a darker and more challenging sound that helped inspire gothic rock, and acquired a reputation as "the most violent live band in the world". Cave became recognised for his confrontational performances, his shock of black hair and pale, emaciated look. The band broke up soon after moving to Berlin in 1982, and Cave formed Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds the year after, later described as one of rock's "most redoubtable, enduring" bands. Much of their early material is set in a mythic American Deep South, drawing on spirituals and Delta blues, while Cave's preoccupation with Old Testament notions of good versus evil culminated in what has been called his signature song, "The Mercy Seat" (1988), and in his debut novel, And the Ass Saw the Angel (1989). In 1988, he appeared in Ghosts... of the Civil Dead, an Australian prison film which he both co-wrote and scored.

The 1990s saw Cave move between São Paulo and England, and find inspiration in the New Testament. He went on to achieve mainstream success with quieter, piano-driven ballads, notably the Kylie Minogue duet "Where the Wild Roses Grow" (1996), and "Into My Arms" (1997). Turning increasingly to film in the 2000s, Cave wrote the Australian Western The Proposition (2005), also composing its soundtrack with frequent collaborator Warren Ellis. The pair's film score credits include The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), The Road (2009) and Lawless (2012). Their garage rock side project Grinderman has released two albums since 2006. In 2009, he released his second novel, The Death of Bunny Munro, and starred in the semi-fictional "day in the life" film 20,000 Days on Earth (2014). His more recent musical work features ambient and electronic elements, as well as increasingly abstract lyrics, informed in part by grief over his son Arthur's 2015 death, which is explored in the documentary One More Time with Feeling (2016) and the Bad Seeds' 17th and latest album, Ghosteen (2019).

Cave maintains The Red Hand Files, a newsletter he uses to respond to questions from fans. He has collaborated with the likes of Shane MacGowan and ex-partner PJ Harvey, and his songs have been covered by a wide range of artists, including Johnny Cash ("The Mercy Seat"), Metallica ("Loverman") and Snoop Dogg ("Red Right Hand"). He was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2007, and named an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2017.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (1984–present)

The band with Cave as their leader and frontman has released seventeen studio albums. Pitchfork Media calls the group one of rock's "most enduring, redoubtable" bands, with an accomplished discography. Though their sound tends to change considerably from one album to another, the one constant of the band is an unpolished blending of disparate genres, and song structures which provide a vehicle for Cave's virtuosic, frequently histrionic theatrics. Critics Stephen Thomas Erlewine and Steve Huey wrote: "With the Bad Seeds, Cave continued to explore his obsessions with religion, death, love, America, and violence with a bizarre, sometimes self-consciously eclectic hybrid of blues, gospel, rock, and arty post-punk."

Reviewing 2008's Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! album, NME used the phrase "gothic psycho-sexual apocalypse" to describe the "menace" present in the lyrics of the title track.[23] Their most recent work, Ghosteen, was released in October 2019.

In mid-August 2013, Cave was a 'First Longlist' finalist for the 9th Coopers AMP, alongside artists such as Kevin Mitchell and the Drones. The Australian music prize is worth A$30,000. The prize ultimately went to Big Scary. In a September 2013 interview, Cave explained that he returned to using a typewriter for songwriting after his experience with the Nocturama album, as he "could walk in on a bad day and hit 'delete' and that was the end of it". Cave believes that he lost valuable work due to a "bad day".

I started writing down the important info/dates related to Louis working on LT2, but then ended up adding faith in the future, 369, the merch, the fest... so it's really a timeline giving a general overview of his work projects in 2021.

📱Feb 14, 2021: Louis tweets "I've been doing a lot of thinking about my next record. It's going to be special!". About a potential release date, he replies "No concrete plans (...) I'm sure I will have something out this year but unlikely that will be the album. Who knows though!". He also replies that he's "doing good. Really motivated!

📱March 6: Louis announces via twitter his idea to create a management company.

Zayn’s rap EP??? Dropped yesterday???!? “Breaking my silence” says Zayn on Yellow Metal- Cathartic (Zayn is Yellow Metal here) and he DOES in 24 minutes of political, personal, complex and lyrically dense rap zoems! It was leaked/dropped whatever you wanna call it by being posted to Z’s cousin’s account (like the cover the other day); but clearly Zayn is behind these drops and that’s what matters, he is releasing this stuff in a way that will get to the fans but not inspire the media uproar (or contract issues) that posting to his own accounts would. As he says “don’t say I can’t communicate, you know I conversate with you in several different ways”, plus “I’ve had enough of being my own enemy, come a long way since 17, I have a few things to say when I get up on a microphone, I didn’t give up on fame I need this time like therapy it’s just to keep me sane… and to be honest it’s offensive, offensive to my still open wounds, trying to ask me questions they know they don’t have I ever replied, I prefer to sit down be online and respond to fanart,” I LOVE THAT. And happy 28th, Louis is writing music! Looks like he is working with producer team Rick Parkhouse and George Tizzard in London (they call themselves Red Triangle Productions and put out music as SuperHi)- they posted a studio picture and tagged Louis. He’s just visible in the booth, singing. Also present- writer/ musician, Paul Whalley and songwriter Robert Harvey (The Music, The Streets) who were both posted and tagged Louis in as well. Louis followed Harvey. Hell yeah, what a line up! Not only that, Jamie Hartman answered a ProjectKMM participant’s question about other songs with Louis-- are they still working on new stuff? He says “I’m sure Louis has been working on new songs with lots of people!” [as we see, yes] “But yes we have done some too- who knows what will make the next album but he’s a top man and I would always write and hang w LT.”

Harry won Best Lyrics for Adore You at the iHeart Awards and Best Cover Song for Juice but failed to take the Artist of the Year or Song of the Year Categories, but more exciting than that- he’s listed as the Director of a new cosmetics and perfume company!!! People have been speculated about him doing something with Gucci Beauty for a long time now (he’s been noted to use their cosmetics, and definitely models their nail polish), and he has of course done perfume ads for them- there’s speculation that this could be for something with them, or it could just be a new thing of his very own. Well the Harry Styles palette would be a damn hit and we all know it, bring it on!

Anne Marie’s Big Weekend performance aired today and yes! She did Our Song with Niall! It’s the performance they recorded last week or so that we saw the pics from, yay first time getting to see them play it, but it was very quickly followed by the next time as their Jonathan Ross show performance also aired! And in case you’re sad about Niall’s previous promo buddies being replaced, there’s no need for that, he’s only adding to the pack; he tweeted Julia Michaels just today, “love ya hules” AWWW. He posted a bunch of cute OS video bts pics too, followed Oprah Winfrey and said he’d like to go to space and that he “would have liked to have been” a godfather to a 1D boy’s baby but “maybe the next one.”

Meanwhile Liam is looking at the fanart submissions he asked for- he retweeted a terrific drawing of himself laughing and said “this is amazing!” and liked a couple of other art posts. Feels like it’s about time for a monthly Liam catch up video, perhaps? Something else to look forward to!

Storia Di Musica #203 - Bob Dylan, Highway 61 Revisited, 1965

L’ultimo mese delle storie musicali 2021 è dedicato a dischi fondamentali. Chi ha la pazienza di leggermi sa che ogni anno a Dicembre scelgo un disco di Bob Dylan. Che per dischi fondamentali nella storia sta come i pilastri per una casa. Quello che ho scelto per questa domenica di santo Stefano è paragonabile ad un uragano che cambia per sempre la musica e che si chiama Highway 61 Revisited, che esce per la Columbia il 30 Agosto del 1965. Il titolo già dice tutto: la Highway 61 era ai tempi di Dylan la strada nazionale più lunga d’America, che per oltre 2000 km seguiva il corso del Mississippi, passava per Duluth, dove Dylan è nato, ed arriva a New Orleans. Come il nastro d’asfalto, Dylan raccoglie la musica del Delta, il blues, la tradizione del folk, inserisce il plug della chitarra nell’amplificatore, in modo molto più deciso e convinto che nell’altro capo che scrisse nel 1965, Bringing It All Back Home (che apre la sua leggendaria triade elettrica, che termina con l’altro capolavoro che è Blonde On Blonde del 1966) e scrive 9 canzoni una più sensazionale dell’altra, che anche a distanza di ormai 55 anni suonano nuove, incredibilmente profonde, per non parlare dei testi. Fu registrato in appena 6 giorni, in sessioni dove Dylan, che stava scrivendo una sorta di romanzo, che uscirà nel 1971 con il titolo Tarantula, in una sorta di flusso di coscienza: con il fidato produttore discografico Tom Wilson misero insieme una band formata da Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper, Paul Griffin, Charlie McCoy, Harvey Brooks, Bobby Gregg, Sam Lay, che in una settimana agli Studio A della Columbia a New York furono protagonisti della magia. Che parte subito con l’intro di organo di Kooper che apre Like A Rolling Stone, il primo singolo ad abbattere il limite dei 3 minuti di durata (addirittura doppiandolo in lunghezza, 6 minuti di Mito), che diviene la canzone del rock, e che partendo da Muddy Waters e dal suo pensier che “una pietra che rotola non può riempirsi d muschio” parla della generazione in fermento che viveva con Dylan, una canzone che è una dichiarazione di intenti, condensate in alcuni dei passaggi testuali che costruiranno l’epopea del rock: nessuno mai saprà a quale Miss Malinconia Dylan dice “Che effetto fa\che effetto fa\senza un posto dove stare\che nessuno ti conosce\come un sasso che rotola via?” per chiudere con “Va’ da lui adesso\che ti chiama, non puoi mica rifiutare\Se non hai niente, non hai niente da perdere\sei invisibile ormai, non hai segreti da nascondere”. Tombstone Blues è un blues pieno di figure storiche (Bette Starr, famosa bandita americana, la figura biblica di Dalila, Jack lo Squartatore, San Giovanni Battista messi tutti insieme). Ogni canzone diventerà una sorta di canone dylaniano, come le meravigliose It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry, famosa per il suo sguardo quasi malinconico sul mondo, o il blues di From A Buick 6, ispirata alla canzone Milk Cow Blues di Sleepy John Estes. Dylan suona il piano in Ballad Of Thin Man, uno dei suoi pezzi più grandiosi, una incredibile canzone di protesta, con le ossessive domande poste a Mr. Jones (definito da un grande critico, Robert Sheldon, uno dei più grandi anchetipi dylaniani), anche questo personaggio metafora di qualcos’altro, forse la società, forse la stampa musicale, forse un simbolo del conservatorismo, chi lo sa “Perché sta succedendo qualcosa qui\ma tu non sai che cosa sia\vero signor Jones?”. Queen Jane Aproximately, dal suono gioioso e composito, parla della facilità di cadere in disgrazia (in una famosa intervista del 1965 Dylan descrisse come un uomo Queen Jane). Highway 61 Revisited è, in linea con la tradizione dei racconti ebraico-cristiani, con il suo ritmo circense e zingaresco, una galleria di 5 situazioni, da Abramo che sacrifica Isacco sulla Highway 61, a Georgia Sam, omaggio a Blind Willie McTell, uno dei miti di Dylan, alle prese con il dipartimento di Sanità, a Mack the Finger che ha “un migliaio di telefoni che non funzionano”, ad una “quinta figlia” che cerca un “terzo padre” e che finirà per conoscere la “settima sorella” sulla Highway 61, fino ad un truffatore che cerca di creare la prossima guerra mondiale. Concludono due brani deliziosi: la dolce Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues, forse ispirata ai padri della beat generation, e la magica, ipnotica, meravigliosa Desolation Row (unica canzone acustica), una infinita carrellata da 11 minuti dell’umanità, dei dolori, della vita, ispirata a Fellini, che parte da Einstein, passa per Ofelia ed Amleto, da Ezra Pound ed arriva a Duluth, Minnesota. Nel 2010, Daniel Kramer nel commentare la sua foto di Dylan che fa da copertina di questo album leggendario, raccontò che fu fatta alla fine di una sessione fotografica nell’appartamento che Dylan divideva a New York con il suo manager Albert Grossman a Gramercy Park. Dylan scese in strada e chiese in prestito ai negozianti del quartiere dei vestiti, che durante le foto avevano ancora i targhettini attaccati. Indossò una maglietta della Triumph, la marca di motocicletta che lui amava tanto, e tenendo i suoi Ray Ban nell’altra mano, fu immortalato nel famoso scatto, con Grossman in piedi sullo sfondo. Kramer, grandissimo fotografo e poi anche documentarista e regista, disse: “Ha uno sguardo ostile o di malumore ostile. Sta sfidando me, voi o chiunque lo stia guardando: che intenzioni hai, dico a te?”. Ed ha quasi ragione a sfidare chiunque, perchè questa è una delle pietre miliari della musica popolare contemporanea, probabilmente il disco che ha più influenzato coloro che son venuti dopo, sia direttamente che indirettamente. È il modo migliore per terminare l’anno di storie musicali, userò questi giorni per raccogliere altre storie, altri dischi, altre canzoni per continuare a fare una cosa che mi piace tanto: raccontarvi storie di musica e musicisti.

I checked the instagrams of both guys Louis was writing with and both have not been to LA at all this year, plus if you look at Robert Harvey’s stories he’s posting pics of a studio set up that looks a lot like how Louis likes the studio (fairy lights and rugs) so I think it is in the UK.

yup, they look to be UK based, and one was posting stories from london yesterday and today. there was one story posted 15h ago that says 'great session lads' which to me indicates something recent. all things considered im pretty convinced it's from the UK.

I think it’s more likely that AFHF 2021 was when they decided to capitalise on the momentum but releasing the next album immediately after the tour ended this year. Louis had probably already written music for the album but was trying to fill specific gaps in a future set list in sessions after AFHF.

Robert Harvey left an Instagram comment on Charlie’s post in January 2021, so it’s likely that some songs were written and recorded before AFHF 2021 (with Red Triangle at Wendybird Studios in London).

Louis had been writing with Jamie Hartman in fall 2020, but none of these songs made it to FitF.

A lot of the work with Hutchcraft and Gibson were spread out over 2021, in both London and LA. So I don’t think they were all written and recorded between August and December 2021. However, Louis saw the reaction to the London livestream and AFHF 2021, and wanted to get the LTWT obligation over and done with so he could get on with LT2.

If it weren’t for the pandemic, LTWT would have ended in 2020, with the new album out 2022 and touring the new album this year. I agree, Louis is picking up the momentum to get music out.
