Dead Angels
I have some short stories that the 'glur may enjoy. I'll start posting my way through them, I suppose, starting with Dead Angels. The actual title is "In a Ditch," but that buried the lede a little. The demands of the era.... Enjoy.
Someone poked my shoulder. I cracked open my eyes begrudgingly to see the neighbor's kid, staring at me, framed by the afternoon sun. He pointed back behind him and beckoned. I sighed and stood up, dusting the dirt off my pants, and picked up my blanket, tossing it in a heap over one shoulder.
"What's up?" I asked.
He didn't say anything, just looked at me with wide and dazed eyes and beckoned again before setting off across the fields, bare feet slapping against packed dirt, so I followed him, down the path, and to the cracked old asphalt road that led down out of the mountains. I left my eyes half-lidded, basking in the summer heat as I followed the loose shadow of him, wandering past trees and fields and wild grasses that were starting to go gold with the season.
"Look." He said, finally.
I opened my eyes and looked, and then it made sense. Down in the ditch, surrounded by a loose ring of kids, was a dead angel. It'd unfurled, all feathers and wings and blank eyes staring up at the sun.
I immediately grabbed the kid's face and turned it away. "Go on, get." I said, sharp. "You shouldn't be lookin' at this."
He stumbled, and I gave him a gentle shove at the shoulderblades. He broke into a stumble, and then an easy jog back. I watched him go, and turned to the others, clapping my hands. I tried not to look. "For all've y'all too. Get, get."
The sound didn't reach them. I had to pull out my pocket knife and clash it on the asphalt, bright steel on dark, lumpy stone, before they startled, and scampered away, leaving just me and the angel in the ditch.
Then, I looked at it.
I thought I recognized it. My cousin had an angel a while back. I don't know what happened to it. It might've been the same one, might've not. She tended to keep mum about stuff like that. I didn't know. Most people didn't like talking about their angels.
I looked down the street. Next car that came rattling along would call the folks down the hill, and they'd come up to haul the body away to dispose of it properly. If any of the parents were told, they'd probably do the same. I didn't know what they did to dead angels.
I looked back down at the poor dead thing, lying there, staring up at the blue, blue, empty sky. It frizzed on my eyes. A tear started to gather at the corner of my eye, and I blinked, and more tears came after it.
I slid back into the ditch. The grass was rough and tall, pushing up against my jeans with a hiss as I half-slid, half-stumbled to the bottom of the ditch and pulled out my work gloves from my belt.
Eyes still half-closed, navigating by touch and by the fuzzy sensation of a dead angel, I folded up its wings all careful-like until I could grab the body. The feathers were like gossamer, and itched wherever they touched my skin. I pulled my shirt up over my mouth, when I noticed. I didn't know what angel dust did if you inhaled it, but it was probably better not to test my luck.
Getting the thing up out of the ditch was easier than I expected. Once the wings were all arrayed, and I managed to get a grip on the smooth inner wheel, it was almost easy.
Angels didn't weigh as much as I thought they would.
It rustled against the grass as I dragged it back up onto the road. I spread out my blanket, and then dragged the angel onto it. It fit. Barely.
Moving the body any further was even harder. I didn't even know where to put it. Angels didn't like dying where you could see them. They didn't like being where most people could see them, anyway, I knew that much. So I squinted at the trees around me and tried to get my bearings. That way to town, that way down the mountain, that line of trees snaking across fields, and that lumpy hill that they huddled around in a big cluster. That was what I was looking for.
Lighter than expected wasn't light. Dragging the blanket across the pavement was not a pleasant task. It got only a little easier when I made it off onto the dirt path. Every foot I dragged it, I had to crush down the grass to either side. I had to take a break, halfway there, and I left it at a distance, staring at it out of the corner of my eye, panting in the hot air and fanning myself.
Every time I looked at it too long, even indirectly, another tear came and trickled down alongside my sweat.
Our town didn't have a speaker or priest or nothing like that. She'd died last year, I thought, and her daughter was still off in the big city, doing whatever it was that the daughter of the faithful did in cities where they'd run off to. I think she was having a good time.
She came back now and again.
That reminded me to get up and start hauling it again.
The glade I was pulling it to was cool, even in high summer. At this point, it was bumpy going, trying to haul the blanket over the knotted roots and leaf litter. In the end, I couldn't get it all the way to the pool. I had to leave it a little to the side, under a wide pine.
I sat there, and then I looked at it again. It still sat there, eyes still blank and staring. It was dead. Dead as doornails.
A speaker'd have a nice word. A priest'd have a nice book to read. I pulled off my glove instead and reached out to the central eye. I touched it, and it fizzed against my skin, even dead, as I pulled it gently down, like I'd seen the undertakers do, so it didn't have to look no more.
A single glittering teardrop beaded as I closed its eye, and quickly soaked into the pale feathers of its body, leaving a dark blotch. I did it again, and the same thing happened. And then again, and again.
Angels had a lot of eyes.
The last eye closed, and I stood up, suddenly creaky.
"Rest well," I said. I couldn't think of anything else to say. My right hand was numb.
I left it there. Told the village kids to not go down to that hole a while. I didn't have much else to do.
Next Spring Break, the speaker's daughter told me that angels faded at sunset after they died. "You didn't need to haul it all the way out there," she'd said.
I looked at her. "I did," I said. "I think."
She looked at me back a long while, before she said, very thoughtfully, "I guess so."

It Finally Happened!
Over dinner with my roommate, we were talking about music we like and I said how I listen to "an indie folk band from the UK", which is how I tend to describe TAD because I think that TAD is actually something ineffable and so any of my attempts to describe TAD just...don't cut it, in my opinion.
She wanted to listen to it, so I scrolled, unsure where to start and deciding to just sort of throw her in the deep end with "The Horror and the Wild". And she liked it! She agreed with me that it's very theatrical and she said it's very empowering, like she could listen to it on the drive to work.
She then started playing some of the music she listens to, which I liked, and I asked if she's ever heard of "The Witcher." Turns out that not only has she, but she's actually watched both seasons and repeatedly described herself as "obsessed"! She doesn't sit down for very long at a time so it's hard for her to actually watch anything but she loved "The Witcher" enough to binge both seasons in, like, two days or something.
So, stunned, I pulled up a photo on Tumblr from "The Horror and the Wild" photoshoot like, "And he's not familiar?!" She looked at the picture and I could see the moment when she recognized him. I'm like, "It's Jaskier!" And she said she thought his outfit looked very bard-like but it'd taken her a moment.
She remarked that she hasn't watched "The Witcher" in a while, so I told her that season three was coming out at the end of the month and she said that we need to make time to watch it together, which I agreed to. I also let her know I have the books in case she wants to borrow them and we talked a little about how the books are different (especially in regard to Yennefer's relationship toward Ciri). I showed her the trailer, and both of us, after almost a whole glass of wine, were doubled over laughing at Jaskier's goofy monster imitation at the end.
My point is, we have another one! Another person who didn't realize that "the guy from TAD" and "the bard from the Witcher" are the same person. I've heard of it happening to or with other people but was pleasantly surprised tonight that my roommate is a Witcher fan who is now excited about TAD.

Since dog hybrids are the most common, I thought I'd write about masters who use these companions to their fullest potential
By giving them jobs.
Hybrid au based on the writings made by @cinnamonest
Gn Farm/Hunting Dog Hybrids
Warning: mention of heats/ruts and how you shouldn't fuck your hunting dog hybrid until they trust you. Idk if it counts, but I thought I should still mention it, even if it isn't described in detail.
Tumblr media
I can confidently say that a good number of people see hybrids as glorified sex toys because I said so. (And also cinnamonest did too, im pretty sure.)
As mentioned previously, dog hybrids are common, with already domesticated breeds being easier to obtain even if you look like someone with low income and living in their parents' basement. But they can't really stop you if you prove that you will take care of them, and even if you do live in your parent's basement, they'll be lumped into taking care of the hybrid anyway so it should be fine.
However, there are some cases when a specific set of people who normally use dogs for tasks decide on using hybrids. Why? Mainly because of their ability to communicate. While dogs have no problem barking your ear off, hybrids can learn to talk, allowing them to convey issues and warnings, or just be someone to talk to.
These hybrids are mainly breeds that were bred for hunting or to herd farm animals.
At first, the adoption centers had little to no dogs qualified for hunting, nor were they used to farm life, but as time progressed, there became facilities that housed these special breeds. Of course, employees needed to have a good hand and experience with normal dogs, as the hybrid counterparts are more demanding. It works out in the end. The adopter gets a hybrid, and the hybrid receives a good amount of freedom to do whatever, as long as they do their job.
Because of how free and open farms can be, however, while it isn't required for the hybrids to wear clothes, they must have on a collar with a tag at all times. It's rare for a farm dog hybrid to wander too far from the animals it's supposed to look after and protect, though. The rule is more for the hunting dog hybrids. Usually, their collar has some sort of identity tag that lets humans be aware and cautious around it unless they're prepared to lose a finger or five. Seasoned hunters sometimes help the hybrids back to their owners if they appear to be injured or stuck.
As for farming dog hybrids, they're definitely much more friendlier, but they require lots of exercise. So anyone can have them, although it's recommended for those who get out and move a lot. Keeping one cooped up inside for too long can make it feel restless and irritated, and it'll soon start becoming aggressive and trash the place to release the pent-up energy it has. So make sure to give your energetic hybrids lots of outdoor time! Having a backyard they can play in is ideal, but even just bringing it along to run errands will work. Just make sure they're properly trained to behave or have them on a harness, as they can get bursts of energy and run all over the place.
Everyone should be wary of hunting dog hybrids! While tamed, they're still as dangerous as wild hybrids if around anyone that isn't their master and shouldn't be taken in by someone who thinks it'd be cool to have one.
As for hybrids who actually work on a farm, it's basically the same as what normal dogs do. Except it may be difficult to cozy to them in that way unless their heat/rut comes around that time. Farm owners usually let their hybrids take those seasons off for breaks until they feel better. Of course, you could always help them and receive a heartfelt: "Thank you, Master!" along with many other praises they can list under the sun for being with them during such a vulnerable point of time during their life.
For hunting dog hybrids, though, they won't let you help them with their spring seasons unless you earn their trust. But hey, they say that slow and steady wins the race. Plus, you should be more worried about hunting and not fucking your companion.
There's definitely a lot more jobs dog hybrids can have, but I'll save that for another post this time.

Fortnite Wilds - First Impressions
Loot pool is a STRONG improvement over MEGAs. While I hope we get some kind of mobility item later in the season, the current guns feel like they fit the theme a lot more, and none of them feel too strong or weak. This opinion may change given more time.
The new biome is GORGEOUS. I was really worried from the trailers and screenshots that it'd lack a strong visual identity, and that it'd all end up being that same overgrown temple look. I'm so glad it isn't just that. The new walkable canopy is going to lead to some insane fights in Zero Build, the prop density is insane, there's so many plants and trees making the biome feel properly lush. One of my complaints with the Neo Tokyo biome is that while the POIs were gorgeous, it felt really empty, and there wasn't enough making it stand out from the rest of the map. This biome avoids that problem, the terrain style, plants, etc, all are extremely differnet.
The lore. I'll keep quiet on this because no one wants to hear me nerd out but we're so back chat. I'm actually feeling the fires of speculation burning within me once again, which I haven't felt since Chapter 3 ended.
I've been far more critical of Chapter 4's visuals then most people, but with the new biome, the storm being purple again, the improved volumetric cloud systems (the storm looks terrifying,) it feels more cohesive. I certainly still have some problems, namely the trees, and lack of foliage, but I'm feeling it.
The new mechanics feel really solid. The vines you can grind on feel far more purposefully placed then the grind rails. They'll get you to a good vantage point, or across the biome. The mud makes sliding far quicker, which is great for mobility. The new plants make exploring the biome interesting, especially when you're low on shields. The new vaults seem.. weird, I need to mess with them more.
New augments feel good to use, the current augments list feels great to use, no filler ones. Hope to continue seeing useful and unique ones.
There's a list of new items that look to release this season, and unlike last season, they're not basically all collabs! One thing I'm really excited for is the synergy between the cloaking item and the Thermal DMR. It gives a GOOD REASON to pick up the item, beyond just enjoy how it plays. I love stuff like that, and I wish it was more common.
Job boards are cool.
Negatives:
My frames are so bad bro, constant dips from 60 to the 20s. :skull:
Chances are, we'll get very little map changes again, which kinda sucks.
The Kinetic Boomerang seems, okay? No mobility attached, nothing that really makes it stand out, beyond the fact you don't need to aim.
I've not seen any raptors despite them being one of the advertised features. Might just be me, maybe they don't spawn in the Jungle, for.. some rason.
I'm just not feeling the Battle Pass. I like one skin and set, and that's about it.
Wildwasp's seem completely useless, just like fireflies.
WHY IS SLONE ITEM SHOP GRAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
Losing the Auto Aim Pistol and Shield Kegs sucks, the first was one of the most unique items added in ages, and the other was great for squads.
The lack of any major movement / game feature this season is unfortunate, I was really hoping we'd see one of the leaked features such as First Person, Wall Running, or Hill Climbing releasing. The last one would fit really well with the crumbling item vibe.
There weren't enough unvaults. Things like the Flintknock, Infantry Rifle, etc. would fit perfectly this season. The fact they weren't included makes me really sad. I'm really afraid I'll burnout on the lootpool quick like last season.
Still no LTMs :lunadepressed:
I really should've wrote down notes while playing, cause it was a struggle remembering what I did and did not like. Despite it seeming like there's more negatives, I'm actually feeling really great about the season so far. I think it's gonna be be far better than MEGA was for me.
This is the most excited I've felt about Fortnite since early Chapter 4.
8/10, I hope the rest of the season is as great.
..I need to check out the lighting as well, it looked really foggy and weird in the jungle biome, and I need to know if the rest of the map is like that, or if they fucked with my precious volumetric lighting. We'll see!

Things I've learned about F1 (as a new-ish fan) during the winter break, the sport and the participants of the sport: a draft I started the week after the last race of the season and have added to since.
(I was planning on posting this when the actual season started, but we're basically at winter testing now so it just felt appropriate to post. There's quite a bit, so it's all below the break).
A new Landogate occurring every winter break is not a running joke in the fandom, it is in fact, a fact. It just happens every year during the winter break. And most of the time, unfortunately for Lando, it's not even his fault or any of his own doing. People just start shit about this guy and won't let him live his life in peace.
Sebastian Vettel had bleach blonde hair and it was iconic. He's a handsome man, but the bleach blonde just was something else...like it elevated his look somehow I can't explain it.
There was a driver's strike at some point (still need to google it lmao) and while the drivers were all just chilling together apparently, their wives and girlfriends were literally partying it up and living their best damn lives, then they went and made a bunch of noise outside where Balestre (the fia president at the time) was sleeping. (I wish we'd have another drivers strike right now, feels necessary tbh)
The presenter of some sort of home improvement show has done more to ensure integrity in the sport than anyone actually working in the sport.
Charles Leclerc seemingly has a fairly calm fanbase. But when he posts photos, that's all anyone talks about for days like he could singlehandedly break the internet probably.
Renault/Alpine racing & Aston Martin racing refuse to let us have nice things. And by nice things, I mean handsome men to look at. (Update: They did, in fact, give us more handsome men)
Alex Albon is the karting champion and has basically won against everyone including Jenson Button.
Merc is actually everyone's favorite team even if they say otherwise. Like everyone understands how good they are as a team and how much success there is with their strategies and cars in general. Love to see it.
Cyril Abiteboul is going to be doing something for rbr (I don't quite understand it), and he will for sure be bringing critique (negative (for H*rner and M*rko at least, but positive for us lmao)) and drama (also negative (again, for H*rner and M*rko at least, but positive for us lmao)) along with him. He will assert his dominance and eventually take H*rner's spot, I just know it. See...why does dts feel the need to overdramatize the lives of drivers and create chaos? We have plenty if they focused on the right things and it'd hurt no one.
In a post-race interview in 2020 in Socchi, Lewis spoke about how the stewards were basically intentionally doing the most to prevent him from winning. Apparently, this was a controversial take at the time and no one believed him. Some things never change. I wonder if he'd been taken seriously back then if the bullshit that happened in the 2021 season would've happened? But anyway it's just become more and more obvious and it's horrible to think that not only has this been going on for years, but Lewis himself has been aware of it and has had to continue to fight even harder to keep his place in the sport. In the words of Toto Wolff, "fuckthemall."
Pierre Gasly is so deeply involved with bitcoin, that he went to a whole ass other continent to talk about it. I appreciate the hustle, but bitcoin/NFTs are apparently a bad thing so it's a bit questionable. I still don't get how any of this works or why, but I trust y'all when you say it has negative impacts on the environment and shit because I literally get none of it and I've read like 10 articles at this point but I'll never understand.
The Merc social media admin for insta is wild. They're regularly posting Toto Wolff thirst traps on main. They need to chill, but they know how to do their job tbh.
Lewis Hamilton also had a bleach blonde era. I have no idea what it is with bleach blonde hair dye and these drivers, but it seems most of them are either naturally platinum or have gone through a phase. You know what though? Good for them.
In my spare time, I've started watching Formula E and basically it's superior to F1 in nearly every way. The regs seem to be much closer so racing is more competitive, they have the coolest looking cars of any motorsport category, the commentators do a great job and I don't want to mute them while watching, and the overall aesthetic is just much more intriguing. LED halos. Futuristic light-up podiums. I'm a fan.
I have watched the 24 Hour Nascar event (not the full 24, but part of it). That alone combined with that video of Ryan Blaney singing Celine Dion has convinced me to be a Nascar and Indycar fan, so I guess I'm all in the motorsports fandom at this point. Similar to fe, they seem to have better overall regs. If f1 is the pinnacle of motorsport, why are they so far behind everyone else in terms of creating competitive regulations?
Cultural Appropriation is a full-time job for half of these dudes can someone please send them tell them google scholar is free, and there are even instagram accounts that will educate them for free? Like if you don't know if you should do something or not, it's best not to. It's just disappointing but not surprising at this point.
Sebastian Vettel is actually the ice man. He can walk around with ice on his beard, a beanie on his head, wearing shorts and a t-shirt. I don't understand and I could never, but he's something else. Just entirely next level. I'm thinking of that interview where Toto Wolff was talking about how all the drivers were traumatized as children, being left to drive out in the rain.
Mick Schumacher is probably one of the best drivers in the sport but that shitty Haas car is holding him back.
Lewis Hamilton can break the internet and he did tbh.
The fia has proven just how little they care for social issues. I mean we've known, but they've done away with "we race as one" and honestly, in the words of Toto Wolff, fuck them all. Like I understand the point of activism and doing something to improve things being more effective, and I get it (also let's face it, Domenicali and the rest of them are probably not actually doing shit to help any social issues). But we race as one has opened up conversations and gotten people to start educating themselves. Public gestures from athletes and other public figures are important because they can help to raise awareness and start important conversations. But yeah, the fia is actually horrible and I'm so tired of their bullshit it's just gotten progressively worse.
Masi got demoted or moved around or something. Yes, he will still be working for the fia, but with some new rules & regs as well as two new race directors and a new president, it does seem like (hopefully) there's an opportunity for more fairness in the sport. Only time will tell.
Pierre has turned his back on NFTs. Does this mean the trend is dying out? We could only be so lucky.
People are memeing about team lh's ability to end wars. They may be joking but honestly...it feels possible.

TOH Season 2, 4 Theories (SPOILERS!)
So we're only 4 episodes in, and there's a LOT going on. I have 3 theories (and one that's more speculation) that I want to share (that have probably already been discussed before, but I haven't seen them, so here I go), and they're all beneath the cut! I wanna talk about King, Belos, and a third one that might surprise you, but I can't say just yet because ~dramatic buildup.~
MASSIVE SPOILER WARNING!
THEORY 1: King is a Titan
This has been a theory since Season 1, but it's reeeeally getting expanded upon here. It's hinted at that King might have a deeper backstory than he's been given, if those carvings and his memory gaps are anything to go off of.
However, we can find proof in his design and the design in that of the Boiling Isles themselves. They were birthed from an actual Titan, right? We see the Titan's still-beating heart in Belos' throne room. The Isles are his organs and ribcage. His skull sits in the water, eye sockets looking out over all.
Tumblr media
Lookit it all. Gross. :)
Now look at his skull specifically. He's got those two horns on top of his head, looking to be a similar-to-exactly-the-same shape as King's, which is even more apparent since his other horn is fixed now.
Tumblr media
(Side theory, King's collar is a glyph, look at the design. What does it do? idk, but I think it's gonna be Epic, and perhaps only he or another Titan can activate it. But I have no proof and just wanted to throw that one out there for consideration.)
Different noses, sure, but this Titan is also more mature. And bigger. That could change as King gets older.
If this theory is true, then that means Emperor Belos- who is rumored to be able to communicate WITH THE BOILING ISLES TITAN- is going to want King at some point. If he is able to RAISE A TITAN, that would strengthen the theory that he has this ~special connection~ with the Titan and put him in so much more power. King is easy to please, too, meaning that he might go along with it.
Leading me to:
THEORY 2: Belos is a human
Look at this series of quotes from Gwen Clawthorne from S2E4:
(Starting with when she says "You're not the only human to have lived in Bones Burrow," but image limit, so.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image ID: four screenshots from The Owl House. The first is a picture of Gwen with the quote "there's a rare substance called Titan's blood." The next is Gwen in a different pose, with the quote "it is extremely powerful, and oftentimes causes leaks between our realms." The third is a picture if Luz, with her eyes wide with shock. Gwen is still speaking though, with the quote "but humans... are rare." The fourth is back to Gwen, with her hands up and the quote "my great-grandmother told me about a human who once lived here, but one day, he just vanished." End ID.]
"a human who once lived here, but one day, he just vanished."
Notice the use of he/him pronouns here. I was originally thinking it was whoever wrote the Azura books- and that is not off the table, really- but... the circumstances of him just vanishing are suspicious at best and earth-shattering at worst.
What if he never left?
We have never seen Belo's face. He was breathing hard when we first saw him, implying he's sick somehow, but was better after he Murdered a Man and poured goop in his eyes. He's never actually used magic before that we've seen. The only hint of power is that he's able to "talk with the Titan" and therefore that makes him better.
If he truly is a human, then that would be why he wears the mask. His ears would look like Luz's, not like a resident of the Boiling Isles. He has no magic. Or, if he does, he's channeling it in a way similar to Luz herself. He's been here for a LONG TIME, meaning he's becoming old and frail- or he should be, if it weren't for the Miracle Eye Healing Goop.
This would explain the portal Eda found out in the woods, and why Belos knows what it is. It was his portal. But, because Eda had it by the time he realized he wanted it back for whatever nefarious purposes he wanted that portal back for, he never got it.
But he's living literally right next to the Titan's still-beating heart. If Titan's blood is what allows for dimensional rifts, like Gwen says it can do, that means his throne is located directly in front of Luz's way home. He just needs a way to open the rift, which is where the portal comes in. The portal is there to channel the blood and create a rift on purpose, just like Eda's old portal could.
In fact, Luz probably has the "key" to opening that rift already. She just needs the blood and a vessel to complete the ritual.
Really think about it. Luz comes from our world, pretty much just as it is, and enters the Boiling Isles, where there is no discrimination on the same level of humanity. You can love freely, be freely, and crimes are judged on the action, not the person. Belos would have come from that same world, and saw how free it is here. If he wanted to take control and power, the only way he could ever do so would be to have the witches living here willingly give up their magic. He could not force them. So, he came up with the lie he can speak to the Titan.
Or, if it's not a lie, he used that power for evil instead of good. This leaves the implication that,
THEORY 3: Luz can ALSO talk to the Titan
This one is just speculation, but if Belos can do it, why not she? And if this IS a real ability Belos has, and he's been lying to everyone, Luz could be able to actually speak to the Titan and find out what it really wants. I imagine that it's probably not happy with Belos, but it can't just move or the entire Isles get destroyed. Or, he's physically unable to. Or perhaps, she can find out why the Titan wants magic restrained and find a different way.
If Belos is a human, then he and Luz contrast each other in that their journeys are the same. They both stumbled into this world by accident, they came from a world that wanted to stifle them, they entered a free world, and they wanted to stay.
The difference here is the power. While Belos reached for it, I predict Luz will be presented with a similar opportunity and throw it away. She becomes powerful in that she has her friends behind her, and that's all she needs. Her power comes from her determination and selflessness, whereas Belos' comes from his lies and selfishness.
Though, that story sounds familiar doesn't it? Which leads me to my final theory...
THEORY 4: The Good Witch Azura
I have 2 theories for this one, but they can both be grouped under one, so here we go.
Theory A) The Good Witch Azura was a REAL WITCH.
If these rifts can open because of Titan's blood, then there's a good chance that people like Eda had found the human world, too. And decided to stay for whatever reason.
Azura may have been writing an autobiography, or wanted to share to the human world about the Boiling Isles without directly saying it exists. Maybe she/they wanted to just get away from it, but missed the way it used to be, and expressed that through writing that happened to get popular.
Another mini theory that falls under this one is the idea that maybe someone tried to stand up to Belos early on, a sort of mirror to modern Eda. She/they saw how corrupt the system would become, and decided to flee or find help.
Theory B) Belos WROTE the Azura books
Now hear me out.
Going back to the 'Belos is a human' theory, that means he came from the human world, and for a time, he had a way of going back and forth between realms before he either lost or rejected his portal. Well, I don't know what his plans are, but if the fact that he's trying to get back to the human world are any indication, then I'd say he wants humans to know.
What if he's trying to spread his power and control? He has all the most powerful witches working under him, right? So it'd be easy to declare war on humanity. Just drop in without warning, cause havoc, and leave before they can retaliate. Then, do the same to a different location and leave before they can do anything. Do this again and again at random, and eventually, they surrender.
So why the Azura books? Well, I'm not entirely sure, but he's marketing books that are shockingly similar to how magic works in the Boiling Isles to humans, with messages about cheesy love and acceptance and working together. Humans eat that stuff right up. He may be testing the waters somehow.
I gotta be honest, I don't know why he'd write about those things, and the only episode I have to go off of is the writing/crunchtime episode from Season 1.
Oh, and this.

Luz: "Maybe I could find out how he got here!"
What if that something is the Azura books? What if there's a secret hidden within their pages, asking the humans to seek the witches out? Asking them to be entranced with this wondrous world, just as he was? What if he's asking them to come here?
"Knock knock, human."
Seasons 2 and 3 are gonna be wild.

I saw one of your tags say that you're not sure Sam would be ok with Destiel and I'm curious why. Do you think it'd be like the Benny situation again or something else? I didn't ship Denny but I don't think Sam likes when someone else comes before him in Dean's eyes. (I can't see Sam not liking Desitle as a homophobic thing, but ya never know.) Anyway I'm genuinely curious because I could see Sam not exactly like a shipper but ultimately ok with it.
Hi! I have to say, I’m always torn when I hear about people reading my tags, because on the one hand I’m vain and prideful and they’re written to be read, but on the other, tagging is like talking to yourself, so - *blushes slightly*.
Anyway, first things first - before I discovered what a fandom was, I was a total sucker for shipper!Sam. My doubts didn’t begin until after I’d read a shitload of fanfiction about it, and something really rotten in my brain was like, What if Sam wasn’t okay with it, though? because I always like to be contrary and to turn things on their heads and see how they work and if they still work. So I’ve got no real problems with shipper!Sam. It’s just - I sometimes wonder - generally when I’m writing myself - what would be more interesting from a narrative point of view - if it’d be better to have Sam in the background, hanging up mistletoe and leaving The letter of the day is B leaflets around the Bunker or if it’d be easier for Dean to have something to push against. I think a case could be made either way - but if TPTB would have wanted to go down that first road, they probably wouldn’t have killed off Charlie, since she would have been (and she probably was) an even better shipper and wingman than Sam.
Tumblr media
That said, I have two arguments against shipper!Sam.
One: Sam is way more messed up than he lets on, and some part of it is terrified not only that Dean will walk away, but that Dean will fall in love with someone and actually pursue that. I know I’ve seen this discussion go down somewhere, but I honestly don’t remember who first came up with this - apologies, guys - the fact that Sam is an all or nothing kind of guy. Like, when he went to Stanford, that was it - he never contacted John, or even Dean, again. For years. And the same happened when he was with Amelia - he just - I don’t know, cut himself off? I’m not sure if it’s his personality, or a by-product of his less than ideal childhood, but Sam’s got trouble to let people into his life, and once they’re in, it’s like there isn’t room for anyone else? Which is a childish trait, of course, and it signals a lack of emotional maturity on his part (not surprising - poor Sammy). And since Sam tends to relate with other people through his own experiences, part of him surely assumes Dean’s exactly the same; that if Dean found himself a new best friend, or a better hunting partner, or even a spouse of some kind, he’d just walk away and that would be it. So in this sense, Sam would feel threatened by any relationship Dean could potentially develop, not only by Cas.
Two, we used to see Sam as the shades of grey brother, but the amazing thing about this show is that Sam and Dean went through a lot of character development resulting in them almost swapping the roles they had in the first seasons - and yet all this feels natural and completely believable. So these days, Dean’s more likely to be the one who gives monsters a pass (hell, look at his relationship with Crowley), while Sam’s become sort of judgemental and what needs must. I think it was Ruby, most of all, who scarred Sam from the inside out and made him so much more conservative, or pragmatic (like, look at him now - he’s more willing than Dean to work with the BMoL, because he’s Mr Head Choice or something). Sam took a huge risk in liking and trusting Ruby, and it all hinged on a sort of anti-racism argument - an I don’t care if she’s a demon, because even demons can be nice and Our biology doesn’t determine our destiny and whatever else. Dean had shut him down about this, of course, but Sam had persisted - and I know there were other elements at play here, but to me, the central point was exactly this: a pigheaded and generous and noble willingness to trust a creature you don’t understand at all and you’ve got no reason to trust. Now, of course things are different with Cas, because Cas has proven, time and again, that Dean’s safety would be his number one priority and all that, but I’m still not convinced Sam would actively want that for Dean. After all, Sam’s seen this other, softer side of Dean’s - he’s seen him around kids (he remembers him from their shared childhood) and he’s heard (a bit) about how happy he was with Robin and whatever, so I sometimes feel Sam still wants the Sookie ending for Dean: a chance to have a true family of his own, and a life Dean could finally lead in full view of everybody, without shame or weirdness or sigils carved on the walls. And I’m not sure this is something Cas would be able to give Dean.
Tumblr media
Finally, there’s the whole bisexuality deal. Here, I have to say - I don’t know what to think. I’m sure Sam’s got no problem with queer people, but it’s always slightly different when it’s your family, right? And there are days I think Sam must know - Jesus, they’ve been sharing a room for thirty years - and days when I think that no, that parent/child thing they’ve got going is way too strong for Sam to see the whole picture (to even think about it).
(Like, I know it was supposed to be funny and that I’m reading too much into it, but Sam recoiling when Rowena suggested he undress Dean and check his chest hair or something - to me, that was emblematic of how their relationship works. Dean’s changed Sam’s diapers, has helped him to get dressed for years, surely bathed him and watched him play with that one plastic submarine they’d scavenged somewhere and, years later, he stitched him up and massaged weird herbal salves over his bruises and whatever - but to Sam, of course, it’s weird to think about his brother’s body at all, because that’s the relationship we have with our parents: when you actually have to take care of them that way, it means things have got very bad and very scary.)
In any case, at the very least Sam would be worried about Dean’s safety (and there’s always that heartbreaking thing, right, that if you’re bi and you can be happy with a woman - man, it’d be so much easier) - but one big reason to be optimistic in this sense was this new development we’ve seeing - that openly gay hunters can actually exist in the community without being bothered.
Tumblr media
(Then again, judging from the news coming about the US, I sometimes feel Dean and Cas could have their college AU life only in a big city, and not in one of those wild, road off to the horizon states where Dean feels most at home. So, well - I really don’t know.)
Anyway - we know so little about Sam, it’s likely that anything could work concerning his approach to the Destiel situation. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
