these are by far the most self-indulgent headcanons i have so of course this is gonna be super long and thus i will put it under a read more
i will just preface this with: i love sound horizon. if you’re interested, please check them out and/or talk to me!! i’m always willing to discuss it or answer any questions!!
so first off
sanhora elitist: saburo revo apologist: gentaro mostly here for the music: doppo, jyushi (is doppo here because totto sang hikari to yami? Absolutely Yes)
these are just the main four, who then recruit some other laurants aha
saburo’s into sanhora mostly due to his hipster complex, but he genuinely enjoys all the music and the stories and the theories behind him. THAT SAID, he is still a contrarian, and thus has opinions such as: the doujin era was waaaaaaaaaay better, it’s not the same without aramary, revo sold himself out, etc
gentaro is always ready to throw hands with saburo because of their differing opinions. he loves all of revo’s works (including linked horizon) and thinks him a musical genius (okay this is just me speaking, but seriously. gentaro’s works are sound horizon material --) and also loves how the stories are told through music and piecing together the theories.
conversations between saburo and gentaro are like:
saburo: revo sold himself out, which negatively impacted his works gentaro: excuse me. revo is a musical genius who puts a lot of thought into each and every note and lyrics -- saburo: yeah, have fun with your 55th snk linhora single gentaro: *rolling up sleeves*
doppo and jyushi are mainly into sound horizon because of the sound! though they love the softer ballads and whatnot, they love the symphonic rock stuff. jyushi, especially, considering his v-kei career. for doppo, the loud songs are really like stress relief?? he screams along with the screaming in the background jkfsjk
hifumi knows about sanhora through doppo. when they were in high school, sometimes they’d share ear buds while commuting, so whenever they were listening to doppo’s music, he’d play sanhora sometimes. whenever songs from märchen or moira played (especially märchen), doppo would be so nonchalant about all the screaming and stuff but hifumi would be like “doppo-chin this is so scary!! everyone’s screaming and dying!!” and doppo would be like “what about it”
later when he gets together with gentaro, hifumi takes to it more because gentaro’s more into albums like roman and nein (which have considerably less screaming LMAO)! gentaro and doppo bond over their shared interest and drag hifumi into watching the sanhora lives with them. hifumi fucking bawls at everything, like 11-moji no message, misia dying, elisabeth and märchen reuniting briefly, “mutti..... hikari attakai ne”, lenny dying, basically. Everything gdjjk
gentaro also gets dice into sanhora, mainly because dice heard him listening to some of the more rock-like songs and he was like “hey that sounds cool” and gentaro caught him in a vice grip like “Does It, Now” and basically converted him lol. while dice is mainly into it for the music, he does appreciate the story aspect of sanhora because it reminds him of gentaro’s works!
similarly, doppo introduces jakurai to sanhora because he overheard doppo listening to some songs and was interested in themes of life and death! he definitely appreciates the deeper meaning of the lyrics and the overall messages
okay so. because ishiya-san was in the video of totto singing hikari to yami, i also headcanon jiro as getting into sanhora. miku was in idoido/märchen, right, so jiro overheard saburo listening to it one day and was like “iS THAT MIKU??” and i also love the hc that jiro plays guitar, so along with miku, he really digs that rock stuff. saburo’s just like “are you even smart enough to understand what’s going on” and he’s just like “sHUT UP, you don’t gotta be smart to appreciate music --”
saburo’s fave album is thanatos. he likes the sorta supernatural, haunting feel of the album! chronicle is also up there (the original chronicle, not 2nd because 2nd is too popular gdkjjk even though he does like it too) because he likes the feeling of the instrumentals accompanied by the poems. if he had to pick a major era fave, it’d be märchen because of how it utilizes classical rock
gentaro’s fave albums are roman and nein, mainly because he loves how they focus on people as they live their lives and the positive outlook they have on humanity (never mind the fact that nein’s alternate realities are bad on a wider scale). as for doujin era, he likes lost because of how it deals with the uncertainties of peoples’ lives
doppo’s faves are halloyoru and märchen. märchen mainly because of totto LMAO, but he loves the dark fairytale theme and how loud it is and how it ultimately gives a lot of hope. halloyoru mainly because he relates to seamus/william (seriously “jinsei nante roku na mon ja nee” is such a doppo line lol) but also he likes how everything in the story ties together
jyushi’s fave is vanistar! am i saying this because he looks like an emo noël?? pretty much jkkjg but really though! considering his backstory with bullying, i think he would relate to noël a lot and take a lot of inspiration from him ;u;
dice and jiro’s fave is also vanistar! they love how it’s centered around rock, so it’s very like accessible to them! (also i see mother as a dice song somewhat... at least with my headcanons lol). dice also digs moira because it reminds him of stella somewhat lol, but the rockability is also really great there
jakurai’s faves are moira and roman. moira because it shows the ruins of humanity, but also the potential of it. roman because it focuses on the lives of different people, particularly with how life and death interplay with each other, so i think he’d be fascinated with these stories
hifumi doesn’t have a fave album per se? since everything’s so heavy for him though thematically, he’d probably like roman the best since it’s very uplifting. he’s mostly into songs here and there for the sound of them! he likes songs like stardust and yodaka no hoshi and yaneura dou, the more upbeat ones pretty much
