Why is it everytime I draw her, she looks so tired/sad.

the bits in animorphs where the kids are really concerned about certain rules, like sending an envelope of money to the store they steal some clothes from or not using morphing power to gamble on horse races (as marco suggests, god shout out to marco), i used to think those moments were kaa trying to hammer home that these are *kids* and that kids can have really sort of warped and also rigid moral codes because moral amibiguity (at least for me) took a lot of time to develop (as in when youre thinking about fighting a war for humanity, a stolen t shirt does not seem super important, but to a kid that actually matters a lot) . like i remember being 13 and being like no! curse! words! ever! bc my parents told me not to curse, and later i was like well thats more complicated and such and such.
but now im realizing that maybe kaa puts it in because these moral rules (dont steal, dont cheat) become some of the last things that these kids can actually follow because they can no longer follow dont kill, dont lie, etc. its a coping mechanism to feel as though they havent gone completely off the edge, (except for marco who has built a nice house on the edge and is “perfectly” “fine” living there)
Encanto Power Distinction au
For a Madrigal family where everyone has a little bit different needs due to their powers:
⁃ Alma can feel everyone when they use their powers. Almost connected by visible glowing strands/bonds. She knows Bruno is still alive bc his bond still exists but it's too dim to follow bc he never uses his powers after he leaves. She has a gentle glow about her in the dark. But she has to be careful not to stay in the sun too long. Her skin is almost like wax and it melts and deforms under heat. She's covered in little scars and divots where she or a family member has had to push it back into place.
⁃ Bruno can lose when he is. Will stop in the middle of sentences or respond to what someone says before they say it. Sometimes people think he’s a telepath on first meeting bc of it. Eyes glow green occasionally.
⁃ Julieta runs extremely warm, like an oven, and constantly needs to be snacking on something to feel healthy. Things taste better/are better for her if they are homemade and cooked with love. Constantly low blood sugar. Never gets sick though and is a fast healer in general.
⁃ Luisa gets muscle cramps and has a excess amount of energy. Often has to run or exercise just to wear out enough to sleep. But it means she can push beyond her limits and stay awake for several days when needed. Generally tougher skin but she has a harder time feeling things/skin is less sensitive bc of it. Extremely heavy due to muscle mass and requires a ton of protein and electrolytes
⁃ Isabela requires sunlight and extra water but can also go longer without food. Doesn’t technically need to breathe oxygen - can also breathe CO2 (has to hide ox meter during a school demonstration)
⁃ Mirabel has parts that need replacing and she always knows where people are inside the house (she finds out earlier that she does have a gift, but has no idea what it is) She definitely is of the same thing as Camilo where she will be able to live longer due to her makeup being more similar to wood and stone than anything (she is very heavy)
⁃ Pepa is actually very light and often staticy. She can tell when the weather is going to go bad, and while she can affect the immediate weather, the weather can also directly affect her moods.
⁃ Dolores has sensitivities and her ears are shaped a little differently than other people. Has to wear ear buds that look like hearing aids when she goes to extremely crowded places and often has to meditate and recenter herself in the mornings. She processes sound differently (synesthesia?) And will do art/dress for the occasion
⁃ Camilo is often shifting minutely all the time, and has a hard time refraining for any length of time. Because of the close relationship with his cells and biology, technically he doesn’t have to age if he doesn’t want to. Causes some fear/anxiety about his family eventually leaving him but he knows that’s a long way off. Any pronouns and has an easy time getting ready in the morning
⁃ Antonio makes little growling or chirping sounds and purrs, often speaks more with his body language than other people. Always getting into trouble/danger bc animals are calling for help. He eats lots of things raw/undercooked (meat, leaves, etc)
some art related to this ask! Another Mass Effect OC? Yes.
Siwa Rusk (volus, she/her) and Kesh’Vataar (quarian, they/them) have been friends for years. They met while Kesh was on their pilgrimage and Siwa was working at her dad’s exosuit repair and refurbishment shop on the Citadel. After discovering a shared love of coding, they wrote some pieces of dual-platform software together that Kesh took back to the Fleet as a pilgrimage gift. The experience, along with her new friend’s quarian cultural sensibilities, gave Siwa an appreciation for free and open-source software that persists to this day, in contrast to her people’s typical preference for strict copyright licensing.
(these drawings are them in the present day! Maybe at this point they have a whole secret handshake routine? Kesh picking up Siwa is absolutely not a mutually-agreed-upon step though.)
A TERF is a white supremacist whose gateway to white supremacy is anti-trans bigotry, instead of anti-Semitism or anti-Blackness or anti-migration or misogyny. As with any gateway, many people engaging in this ideology may not be aware of their proximity to white supremacy. This is the standard radicalization pathway that we have seen over and over and over with, for example, anti-Islamic sentiment. Personally, [I] find it is most comparable to how anti-Semitism gateways are used. Often, we see white supremacists exploiting legitimate grievances with the financial systems by turning into an anti-Semitic issue. White supremacists take legitimately frustrated and class-oppressed people's anger at banks, and carefully plant the seeds of anti-Semitism. They'll point out the irrefutable fact that there exist Jewish people in executive positions in banking and vilely twist this. TERFs take a legitimate grievance: patriarchal oppression of women and homophobia and turn it into a movement based on systematic exclusion of a specific class of people. This is the redpill. [We] need to stop the good-faith engagements with their ideology and start treating it like the gateway to white supremacy that it is.
Everyone talks about how the narration switches from referring to Kris calling for help from Susie and Ralsei versus "you" calling for Noelle in the Snowgrave Spamton Neo fight,
but nobody talks about the 1 other time the narration refers to Kris in third person:
Notice how there's no string asking the player whether or not they want to use the KeyGen? That's because, as soon as you interact with the lock with the KeyGen in your party, Kris just uses it, without giving the player that option.
Note that this isn't what happens with Jevil and the Door Key in Chapter 1. There, when you bring the fixed key to his cell, the player is prompted with the options "Use key" or "do not". If you say "do not", it's Jevil who denies you that choice, saying, "YOU CAME TOO FAR! YOUR CHOICE HAS RUN OUT!"
So, Kris goes ahead and uses the KeyGen the second you give them the opportunity. Either because they recognize that, like with Jevil, this is probably happening either way... or, because they're genuinely invested in helping Spamton.
I tend to believe the latter, despite how freaked out by Spamton Kris appears to be on multiple occasions, because of two factors: a) the option to ask him about "FRIENDS" in his shop, which Spamton at least takes to be Kris asking if the two of them are friends,
and b) what the narration says Kris does if you interact with the seemingly non-functional machine a second time:
Sounds like they're desperate for it for work.
But yeah, reasoning aside, if we're taking the narration's distinction between Kris and "you" in the Snowgrave Spamton fight to be significant and telling of Kris's character, which I absolutely think we should, then I think we should try not to forget the one other instance of this happening.
...unless it's an oversight like the hot chocolate line in chapter 1. But, again, the lack of a choice for the player in whether or not to use the KeyGen makes me more confident it's not.
Also, while I'm here discussing DR's narration, though there are many uses of "you" to refer to experiences specific to Kris, original thoughts they have inspired by what you inspect, or memories of theirs from before we were around... there's also this:
This line is a reference to the broken jukebox in Grillby's in UnderTale. There's no jukebox in Hometown or the other Dark Worlds that this line could be referring to, so it only makes sense if the "you" here is the soul/player, not Kris. So, yeah, that's weird and contradictory, huh? Guess we'll have to wait to find out what it means.
