Why do I wanna write roommate Simon/Ghost??

Roommate Simon who's gone for months at time, but always brings you sweets and trinkets from wherever he's been stationed while he's deployed. He looks at little souvenirs or remembers the dishes he's tried and he takes a mental note to get you something similar before he boards the plane to go back.

Roommate Simon who barely keeps in touch but is worried sick about you. Did you eat? Are you sleeping okay? Does your car need fixing again? Are you safe? Are you still getting nightmares? God, he wishes he was there to hold you while he eases you back into sleeping again.

Roommate Simon who encourages you to text him anyway, despite being busy on the job and unable to text/call you back. But the moment he's on leave, he takes his sweet time scrolling down his phone. You tell him about your day, you text him about your hardass professor, send him videos of you being horrendous at darts at the bar you and him usually go to whenever he's back from duty, show him pictures of all the cute puppies and kittens you find while you're out on a walk and beg him if he'd be amenable to getting a furry friend for the both of you. (Truth be told, if it's you who's asking, he'd pretty much lay down the entire world at your feet.)

Roommate Simon who comes back home to the smell of good food being cooked and you running up to him but stopping short a few feet away from him - hesitant to touch him, only for him to engulf you in a bone-crushing hug as he breathes you in. You smell safe. You smell clean.

You smell like home. Maybe you are his home.

He doesn't have a penchant for physical touch - recoils from anything that intimate faster than the guns he uses on the battlefield, but god forbid, he deprives himself from holding you. For this instant, when you're alive and safe (and still so lovely), and you breathe enough life in him for him to feel like Simon again and not just Ghost, he'd like to hold you in his arms for now.

Thinking about how WoT #6 makes it really clear what Aes Sedai think of women who've been stilled. The aversion, the fear, the disgust and near-reproachful attitude. Thinking of how show!Moiraine likely worried about this at least subconsciously in regards to Siuan after being shielded. Thinking of Moiraine trying desperately to hold onto her conviction as she soldiers forward in her mission, all the while cringing hopelessly away from the idea of Siuan looking at her differently now that her powers are gone. Wondering if the absence of that commonality would change the way Siuan spoke to her, respected her, loved her. Thinking of how carefully Siuan handles it once Lan tells her, how nimbly she tries to step around the pain she knows rips Moiraine apart. How gently she tries to shoulder Moiraine's burden, how willing she is to do whatever it takes to protect their mission and protect Moiraine too. Thinking about how all this goes unsaid yet is so, so clear because Rosamund and Sophie are fucking goddesses

i'll beat this dead horse until the day i die but the revenge of the sith novelization is one of the wildest books i've ever read, in the sense that none of the other star wars novelizations have ever radiated such pure, deep, thorough, and sustained homoeroticism.

we're reading it a page a day in my server and just came upon the passage where obi-wan recognizes anakin's ass from two inches away while hanging upside down with a concussion. him meditating on anakin's ass is in the text. it's full of this stuff!!

sometimes i feel insane about it but it's there, it's all there. a few pages before the ass section obi-wan 'looked at anakin with a depth of feeling he'd only rarely glimpsed in all their years together and a pure uncomplicated love rose up within anakin that felt like a promise from the Force itself.'

in a few pages it will say that obi-wan and anakin were, after all, two parts of the same thing, and then it will say a hundred other things that all emphasize the bond between these two men, the long history and complex emotions they have for each other, how interwoven their very identities are, all in service of making mustafar worse and more painful.

i think the story accomplishes a kind of essential nuclear fission that powers the rest of the anakin skywalker saga, the splitting of the atom here from kenobi-and-skywalker to ben and vader is so violent that it releases energy backward and forward in the narrative. the book is tender and ruthless about them, and i'll never be normal about it
