You had spent the afternoon in the forest gathering more stock for the shop, and lost track of time in the process. By the time you were ready to leave the sun was already setting and it was getting harder to see where you were going.

The first sign you had of an attacker was the feeling of being slammed harder than you thought possible on the back of the head. Everything that followed was fuzzy - being hit a few more times around your torso and face, a figure with its face hidden, and eventually being thrown against a wall while your bag was yanked away.

You don't know when you fell asleep, but when you open your eyes, you're back in your shop with your beloved bending over you.

Julian

His hands are steady on your bruises, but when you meet his eyes you can hear his breaths and see the curls around his face shaking

"MC?" He asks worriedly, "Can you tell me where it hurts?"

He doesn't leave the house while you're recovering. He's grateful for any help Mazelinka, Portia, Nadia, or Asra offers, but he insists on treating you himself and does so with total care and devotion

It's one of the moments when you're grateful for his cold hands, because they're so soothing on your tender skin

As you recover enough to be more aware of your surroundings, you start to realize just how the incident is affecting him

You can hear him pacing and muttering and swearing when he thinks you're asleep, trying to figure out how this happened and who did it and how to bring your attacker to justice

And at the same time, you know that no matter how many times he apologizes for not being there and you tell him that it's not his fault, he's going to blame himself

At one point Mazelinka gives you both bowls of soup laced with sleeping medicine

When he's able to forget your attacker, though, he's in his element

He's willing and able to give you everything you need: healing, company, laughter, love, and devotion, all without limits

Though he's very relieved when Nazali catches the assailant lurking outside your shop as they bring their apprentice more supplies and knocks them to the ground

Asra

The first thing you see is their hair twice as fluffed out as usual because they've been running their hands through it

As soon as he sees you're awake, he's gently skimming a thumb across your cheek and putting on a strained smile. "Oh, my love. Everything's going to be alright."

Salim and Julian, who have both studied medicine, are already in the shop helping Asra heal you while Aisha keeps you comfortable

As soon as you're recovered enough, Asra's offering you all kinds of safety options after layering the building in protective magic

Would you feel safer in the Palace? In the woods? In Nopal? Say the word and they'll take you anywhere you want to go

Is very gentle and cautious about how he asks you what happened

Stays so extremely calm and unruffled while you're healing that you know they're feeling some pretty awful things and that they have no intention of letting any of them show until you're better

Behind the scenes, he's stealing away whenever you're asleep to pass all the information he has about your attacker on to Nadia, who is determined to bring them to justice

They're not the type to try to restrict you in the name of safety, but they're teaching you every kind of defense magic they know

Nobody does comfort like Asra does. You won't have to go through a moment of pain or fear without him right there to pull you into his arms and hold you as long as you need him to to feel safe

Nadia

She's putting on a brave face but you can tell from the wrinkle between her eyebrows that she's very, very shaken

"Don't fret, my darling, you're safe now. Don't move. I've summoned our best physicians. Is there anything you desire? Anything I may fetch for you?"

As soon as you're cleared to move she's relocating you to the Palace where she can keep you safe and stay by your side

She is so dedicated to staying available to you, in fact, that she moves all of her meetings into the room next to yours so that she can hear you if you so much as cough

And if she does hear you in any kind of discomfort, she's dropping everything and rushing over

She'll move your head to her lap, bring food and water to your mouth, call for blankets and soup or ice cream and fans depending on your temperature, and trace your face with her fingertips until you fall asleep or force her to go back to work

You are her absolute priority

She's not going to tell you until later, but she is very, very angry

The cold kind of angry, that makes it difficult for her to be fair in her dealings. She has every connection both in and out of Vesuvia on a manhunt for your attacker

As soon as she hears that they've been apprehended, she has them detained until you're recovered enough to get out of bed

She wants justice, but she wants closure for you too, and the opportunity for you to obtain both for yourself

Muriel

As triggered and panicked as he is, Muriel has unfortunately gotten enough combat experience to have in-depth knowledge of how to care for someone who's been attacked

When you open your eyes, his expression is shifting between angry and terrified and deeply, deeply hurt, but his touch is gentle and safe and feather-light and he has water and painkillers already out

He doesn't want to overwhelm you with noise so he won't start talking until you do

He'll lock up the shop and carry you back to the hut as soon as possible, where he knows it's safe for you and for him

He's used to living with his own pain, but now he's becoming angry on your behalf and it's making him conflicted because he hates doing anything that could cause violence

So he sends Inanna with a note to Asra, explaining what happened briefly and asking them to pass the message on to Nadia so they can help

The two of them are quick to send everything you could need your way, and Muriel finds it much easier to accept help when it's for you instead of for him

Julian even makes the trek out once or twice to help you, and in the process tells everyone he meets about what happened and the state you're in

With the whole town on the hunt for whoever hurt their heroes, it's a matter of days before the attacker is caught. It's a miracle they make it to jail in one piece

Portia

The first thing you see are her tear-filled eyes, and the second thing you feel (after the aches across your body) are the steady drip of them falling onto your chest

"MC! Oh, I'm so glad you're awake. I'm so sorry - I'm so sorry!"

It's only a few more minutes before Julian and Mazelinka burst through the door, Julian carrying his doctor's kit and Mazelinka brandishing an honest-to-arcana pirate cutlass

Portia doesn't hide her determination to get justice for you as she carries you into Nadia's carriage to take you back to her cottage

She's holding your head and torso in her arms, helping you give Nadia a description of what happened while she presses her handkerchief to her eyes to keep her tears from dripping on you

She's the best nurse you could ask for

Whatever you can stomach, she'll cook it. If you're too hot, she's throwing open the windows and fanning you. If you're too cold, she's snuggling next to you and sharing her body heat

And if you're scared or hurting, she's cradling your face in her hands and crying all her tears for you. She develops a habit of kissing you right next to each injury every morning and night

When you're asleep, she's talking to every person she knows (which is a lot) and recruiting them to catch your attacker

By the time Nadia hears that they were found, it's almost too late to get them safely into custody

Lucio

His lips are white. All the blood has left his face, and his jaw is clenched so tightly to keep from chattering that you're worried it's going to crack

"MC? MC, are you awake? Does it hurt? What do you need?"

You notice that he's keeping his metal arm angled far, far away from you, where the metal can't bump any of your injuries, and his regular hand is fluttering all over your body like he's scared that he'll make it worse if he touches you

You quickly notice that there's several neighbors in the shop as well, and you learn that Lucio was so loud when he called for help that half the town already knows what's happened

He doesn't want to hurt you, so he guards you instead

He stays watchful at your bedside, sword resting by his hand, so that you know you're safe enough to fall asleep and heal

He'll only sleep if it's on the floor next to you, or in the same bed after you've told him multiple times that it won't hurt you

He'll happily tell you all kinds of tall tales to keep you distracted, and he practices all the patience he's developed with every friend and doctor that stops by to help instead of blowing up at them out of fear

All his anger has to go somewhere, though, so when an old connection from the heart district tells him that your attacker's been spotted, well

The only reason he doesn't kill them is because he thinks it would be too kind

. for as long as you can remember, the only thing you’ve loved more than playing football is being behind a camera

. as a kid whenever you weren’t on the pitch itself, you were recording your teammates and friends, creating their own personal highlight reels

. and like every other kid in Argentina, you spent your entire childhood playing football

. but it wasn’t until you were a teenager when you started to discover your love for camera work

. it started when a teammate of yours asked you to record something for social media, initially as a joke

. but then the video got a couple hundred views, and you quickly began to love the feeling of creating something people can visually enjoy

. your teenage years were filled with football and videography

. then by the time your senior year came around, you knew you wanted to by apart of both scenes however you could in the future

. leading to your commitment to Cordoba National University with a major in communication and media studies

. you graduate in 2021, and spend a few weeks looking for jobs

. then you find Cordoba fc and their opening for a new social marketing manager

. you get hired within two weeks of applying as a social media manager

. because the Cordoba community is pretty small, you can spend a lot of time getting to know the players and the fans really well

. you learn a lot there, as it’s your first work experience for a professional football club

. you work there till the end of sepetmber/mid october, because through a few of your co-workers, you learn that Central Cordoba has an opening for social media manager

. which of course, you applied to and by the end of November, you’re part of the Central Cordoba staff

. it was a lot of fun; hanging out with players, befriending other staff, traveling with the team, and obviously, managing their social media

. you prove to be extremely efficient there, bringing in thousands of new fans

. which builds your reputation as an employee a lot

. and suddenly, you’re getting offers for different clubs around argentina

. only 1 stands out to you though

. Argentina’s national team offer

. because apparently, due to the world cup occurring at the end of the year, the communications directors wanted more publicity before the competition

. you obviously reply back, and a few weeks later you’re invited to their headquarters for an interview

. at first, you didn’t think you got the job because it took a while to hear back from the directors

. but then you wake up to yet another email waiting for you

. and you are officially argentina’s social media manager

. your first day is technically in april

. but you don’t meet any of the players until the end of that month

. you didn’t even know you were gonna meet the players that day so you were severely unprepared

. one moment you were making coffee with your co workers

. then lionel messi walks in beside rodrigo de paul

. they caught you by surprise

. both of them were really nice though

. you eventually learn that they all are

. your job mainly consists of filming the team together and managing the their social media accounts

. this is how you get to know each of the players

. you click with julian the most at first because of the age similarity

. he becomes your best friend within your first week

. any meetings that the both of you are included in are spent sitting on opposite sides of the room because you were told your friendship is “a disturbance to the work environment”

. you guys make it up by being attached to the hip before and after practices though

. you guys are bus seat partners and make fun out of annoying the other guys

. enzo is another close friend of yours

. you guys are always gossiping about something

. “did you hear about the new intern?”

. “apparently, somebody was found with somebody else in the break room after the meeting last week”

. “I swear he wasn’t even sick that one time, he was just at a party the night before”

. he tries to convince you to dye your hair like him

. and when you refuse, he lets you make up for it by helping him tone in

. you guys are always laughing together, no matter what the situation is

. you and molina have such a playful relationship

. you’re always making fun of him for no real reason

. he’s just trying to defend himself

. you do it for all of them, but his birthday photo dump is always the worst

. you two are always wandering around headquarters, looking for either someone to bother or something to entertain yourselves

. it always ends it great content though

. you have a soft spot for alejandro

. mostly because he has a crush on you and tries to play it off

. but you’ve known since the first few times of hanging out with him

. when you’re filming concent for the argentina pages, you’ll see alejandro trying to show off at least three times a video

. you find it hilarious

. the other guys tease him relentlessly for it

. you two are still good friends regardless

. he tries to be protective of you even though he’s literally four years younger than you

. again, you find it hilarious

. and he always gets shit from the other players

. leo is such a dad to you it’s funny

. he was so nice the first time you met him, and after that he unofficially adopted you as a daughter

. even though he’s only like 13 years older than you

. shows his care in small ways

. making sure you never get hit with a ball when you’re sitting in to a practice

. coming into your office when you’re both in headquarters to check on you

. making sure you’re safe when you’re traveling with the team

. whether it be just assigning another player to look after you or a whole ass bodyguard

. also protecting you from rodrigo

. because rodri is like an older brother to you

. super playful

. always teasing you

. agreesive type of love

. y’know those videos of rodri always picking up julian and stuff?

. like that but a smidge gentler

. this is where messi comes in

. insisting he put you down and let you do your job

. rodri also tries to convince you to get tattoos

. honestly that’s a whole team thing

. playful peer pressure is real there

. you, julian, and enzo are such a trio

. getting up to the most random shit in other countries after games

. you guys were two seconds away from jumping into a canal in italy

. but then here comes leo

. scolding you guys like his children

. and sending you back to the hotel

. also, you have a jersey from almost every player on the team because before you got your own jersey, you always just picked someone random to wear on game days

. but then rodri started frowning when he saw you in julian’s jersey because apparently, you hadn’t worn his shirt in a few games

. and now you have a separate drawer just for jerseys

. oh and the world cup

. that was so fun for you

. traveling with the team to qatar

. hanging out in stadiums during practice, half upset because it felt like a million degrees

. but half in awe because holy shit you’re in qatar for the world cup

. you’re on the edge of your seat for every game

. the final almost killed you

. you were almost crying on the bench next to the other staff

. totally worth it though

. you started sobbing when montiel made the last penalty kick

. because you knew these guys, you knew how much they wanted it, how much they deserved it

. it was a mess of hugs and tears after that

Fic I'll never write where Julian has a latent one-way telepath gene activated by some sci-fi nonsense and can suddenly hear everyone's thoughts. And he's like, "Shit, I don't remember there ever being any betazoid blood in the family. This must be connected to my augmentations. No! I have to fix this James Bond style." So while he's doing that, life goes on and he has to keep a straight face against the cacophony of noise from all his friends and patients.

With his patients, the telepathy actually ends up being pretty useful. He can hear everything they're too embarrassed or proud to say, so examinations go much smoother. Though he really could do without all the sudden "mmm sexy doctor" thoughts interrupting his professionalism. Especially when they cause him to bash his head on his own equipment out of pure, scandalized shock. Twice. 

With friends, the challenge is mainly in not responding to their thoughts, because they’re always interesting. His friends are incredible people and he's bursting at the seams to talk to them about their interests, hobbies and concerns. Then, of course, there are the occasional "Julian is annoying" thoughts. He always knew they were there, but actually hearing them sucks. He takes heart in the equal amount of "Julian is a sweetheart" thoughts that pop up, often shortly after the annoyed ones.

Then there's Garak, who Julian avoided for as long as he could because he knows Garak wouldn't appreciate having his thoughts heard. He was literally a spy. Julian listening in on his thoughts would be tantamount to bugging his quarters or something. It's not fair to him. Julian and Garak might lie to each other all the time, but that doesn't mean there isn't a trust there, and Julian doesn't want to break that. Maybe in the beginning, but not all these years later. Not now that they're close.

But ultimately, it's just (hopefully) one lunch, and if he avoids Garak for too long, he's going to hurt his feelings and he can't do that, either. Garak only has so many friends. And anyway, what's the worst that could happen? Julian finds out what Garak really thinks of a book? Maybe Garak's soup is too hot, but he won't admit it? Maybe he'll mentally shit-talk a Bajoran, and that'll suck to know about him, but it won't be shocking. Hell, he’ll flatter himself, maybe Garak will have a lustful thought or two about him. That wouldn't be any great revelation. He knows Garak's attracted to him, and he's attracted back, but fucking an ex-intelligence agent isn't a good idea for someone with a secret as big as Julian's. So, he might have to rub one out after lunch. He can deal with that. No harm done. He comes to lunch.

And it's a spectacular mistake. He should have made another excuse, any excuse. He should have known better. He knows who and what Garak is. He knows he's traumatized and hypervigilant and a little bit of a maniac. Garak's even hinted at sentiment being a particular weakness of his before. He should have anticipated Garak filing away every little thing he hears and sees like his life depends on it. He should have anticipated the checked violent instincts and guilt and depression. He should have anticipated Garak wondering what secret Julian's keeping and coming startlingly close to certain truths. He especially should have accounted for the possibility that Garak is more than just attracted to him. He's deeply in love with him.

He leaves lunch shaken and sick to his stomach. So much of it is unsurprising. Garak's life has been terrible. Is terrible. Julian has known that much ever since meeting Tain. Since Garak spat that he hated it on Deep Space Nine and he hated Julian specifically for being something he doesn't hate. He doesn't hate him at all, apparently, but he does resent him. He feels ashamed for wanting an alien so much, for feeling such a strong connection to something outside of the State. Something that Tain would punish him for. He punishes himself in Tain's absence. It's horrible, the cruel things he thinks so calmly about himself, like it's natural. Obvious.

Julian's always known Garak was miserable and he's done what he can to help him, but he admits there's been a part of him that thought being away from Cardassia and the Order was good for him. That the station hurt him so much because it was a remedy, and sometimes remedies feel like poison at first when you're so used to sickness. But of course it's more complicated than that, of course it runs deeper, and Julian should have done more. Should have invited him out. Should have dragged him into some tennis matches. Should have double-checked that his damn medication was still working after the number that implant did on his brain chemistry.

Shouldn't have gone to lunch, because now he knows Garak fantasizes about taking him back to Cardassia and enjoining with him and fucking him in fields of flowers and... adopting bloody war orphans together. That is not the sort of thing Julian should know without Garak's consent.

Even worse, now Garak is suspicious, and he pops into the infirmary the next day to "check on him after his hasty departure the other day." It's not even subtle. They both know Julian's hiding something, but Julian can't have this conversation without having about ten others that he has no idea how to have yet. And Garak won't stop thinking about running a soothing hand through his weird human hair and over his fucked up human eyebrows and - once when he makes the mistake of turning around - grabbing his ass. He doesn't even have an ass, but apparently that doesn't stop Garak. Bastard! Julian snaps that he's fine and rushes him out because he has work to do, thank you, my dear tailor. Garak jokes that this is the first time he's ever been forced out of the infirmary before, but he's thinking about hacking Julian's computer while he does it, so Julian growls at him and storms off to upgrade his security system. Again.

Time passes and Julian's losing his mind trying to solve this mind-reading problem and figure out what to do about Garak. Because of course he has feelings for the man, but he's avoided thinking too hard about that because Garak's never been a romantic option. Now he knows there's a very real possibility that Garak can be trusted, just like he’s always hoped. That Garak loves him to a degree that challenges his loyalties, and if Garak is loyal to Julian, then Julian doesn't have to worry about him using his augmentations against him. He could finally have a partner he doesn’t have to lie to, who might even understand and accept him. But the fact remains that Garak didn't want him to know that, and Julian feels guilty. And conflicted. And horny, because Garak's been spying on him in the promenade without knowing Julian can literally sense his stupid ass and every third lizard-brained thought is about how much he wants to lick him. There's a part of Julian that wants to just yank him into a changing room and hope that the healing power of sex will just solve everything.

Unfortunately, he knows there's no way out of Garak freaking out about Julian having heard his every crazy, paranoid and lovelorn thought. And Julian's savior-complex is going haywire. How do you comfort a man who won't allow himself to be comforted? How do you return a love someone hates themselves for feeling? Julian updates his medication, but there's only so much medication can do. Garak needs more than just Julian to kiss him. He needs things Julian doesn't know how to give.

In the end, Julian is able to deactivate the gene responsible for the telepathy, and things go back to normal. He has lunch with Garak, who is notably pouty, but Julian can only guess at the reason (probably because he couldn't hack into Julian's computer--ha), and it's a relief. They're back on even footing, Garak is an enigma once more, and all is right with the universe.

Except that everything has changed.

Julian can't tell him he could read his mind without concocting a lie about why he could suddenly read minds in the first place, because he can't tell him about Adigeon Prime. In the end, it's less about whether Garak can be trusted, and more about Julian's issues. It's selfish, but Julian's never told anyone before and he's not ready to now. It's too big. Too much. He couldn't stand it if Garak looked at him differently after. But to lie about it now, so baldly, after the profound vulnerabilities Garak's expressed without having any idea he's expressed them, feels wrong, too. 

So, Julian doesn't tell him a lie or the truth or anything at all. He doesn't tell him until they're in a prison camp, until Garak's told him Tain is his father, until the possibility of Garak being ordered to betray Julian is dead and they might die soon after and Julian needs Garak to know he was loved by someone. He needs Garak to know who Julian Bashir really was. A liar. An imposter. A coward. Someone who only ever wanted to heal, who didn’t ask to be a monster. And Garak will forgive him.

But for now, Julian is all those things, so instead of confessing his sins, he brushes his hand against Garak's. He squeezes his shoulder on his way to get a refill. He brings back a dessert for them to share. He argues and recommends terrible books and invites him out to shows and drags him to tennis matches. He encourages his friendship with Odo and Keiko and later Ziyal. He asks him to teach him Cardassian. He brings him fresh Red Leaf tea. He starts keeping a heated blanket in his quarters. When Garak falls asleep for seventeen minutes and fifty-two seconds while they're watching a holofilm, Julian pretends not to notice. Inwardly, he cheers.

In the absence of one type of honesty, another takes its place.

Imagine being siblings with Guinevere and Lancelot, running away after their siblings ran away and kinda having to live as a wanderer and we're honestly having fun, then boom we meet the 4saken light.

If it's a older sibling reader I can see them treating Melissa,Yin and Julian as their siblings and being kinda like a parent to them and Xavier is falling hard for us, cue to the kids setting them up.

If it's a younger sibling reader- Julian, Melissa and Yin has a crush on them because reader is so nice,compassionate and smart. It's a love square. Xavier has to deal with these lovesick teenagers + a oblivious one.

Guin and Lance are both protective in both versions

Older! Reader would be the shield between their little siblings Lancelot and Guinevere. Lancelot comes sprinting to Older! Readers side and slides onto their lap to cover himself from Guinevere seeing him. Older! Reader would just chuckle and use the book that they had been reading and blocks Lancelot from Guinevere who just came to the room and looks around to his brother.

Older! Reader would be devastated after the lose of their siblings and just lives the life of a wanderer. Older! Reader uses a different name to cover their family name but their godly face and hair is just gives everything away. Meeting the 4saken light was pure coincidence, Yin was the first one you met after helping him out from the trouble he got himself into it and in return he invites you to join the 4saken light.

Older! Reader would be so skilled in every weapon and hand to hand combat, Yin and Melissa would pester the reader to teach them and Julian is just silently standing there with his eyes shining hoping you would accept their offer. Xavier is just on the side shaking his head in disappointment and quietly offers you that he could take the kids them away if they bother you but you just shake your head smile which makes the corner of his lip tug up to a small smile.

cue Xavier finding it so hard to confess his love to you which catches Melissa's eye, she tells others to set you two up with a perfect plan. Yin giving you a really stupid and obvious reason to leave you alone with Xavier, Julian is beside Yin and quietly nodding at every of his words even if they're full on stupid. You find the light elf leaning against to tree with a ligh blush covering his cheeks and probably thinking about you.

It was Melissa who set her eyes on you first, instantly falling in love with you too. Just, just a small crush. After making a tiny chat and getting to know eachother Melissa offers you to join 4saken light which you accept.

Younger!Reader being slightly insecure to meet the rest of the group because they never really got the chance to social with other people because of their protective siblings. Yin was so easy to get along with, he has so many things to talk about and is warm-blooded. Julian however wanted to observe you first, it would be a lie if he said that you didn't interested him. Xavier was welcoming, even told Julian to not scare you too much.

Yin's crush on you is pretty obvious as he is always trying to strike a conversation with you and blushes like a strawberry at any physical contact with you. Julian is..silent as usual but he suddenly talked a bit more when alone with you. He was already protective over his friends but when it came to you he's suddenly acting a bit more aggressive whilst protecting you. Melissa's puppets are always accompanying you, she even made you yours, isn't she's so thoughtful <3 ? Above the others she lives physical contact and is always hanging on your shoulders, draping herself onto you. Xavier is... honestly tired seeing them so lovesick. There was one time where Xavier found all you four sleeping whilst leaning onto eachother. Yin on your left, Julian on the right, you between them and Melissa leaning onto your chest.

After Kylian kissed you you pushed him away and said “why would I forgive you?, as you said you have been an asshole to me, you left me when I needed you the most”. He looked you in the eye with a sad face and said “I know I fucked it up between us, you really didn’t deserve the way I treated you, you deserved more better but I promise if you give me another chance I will change and be better for you”. “I don’t want your words I want action after all actions speak louder than words show me that you changed and want me then I can consider it “ you said and turn and walked out.

You went on the date but you couldn’t enjoy it because of what happened before you left the house. Kylian words repeat it self in your head and you could concentrate on your date. After your date you went home and saw that Kylian had picked up your son and was cuddling with him on the couch. You couldn’t help but smile and when Kylian saw you he said “oh you’re back how did your date go?” You debated whether you should say the truth or lie “it went well but I don’t think I will see him again” you said and you saw Kylian smile after you said that. “Oh that’s sad why don’t you come and sit next to us and we can have family time” Kylian said. You smiled and said “sure let me first go and wash and change my clothes and I will come down” “D’accord, we will wait on you” he said.

After you were done you went down to the living room and sat down on the couch little further away from Kylian he looked at you and said “you can come and litte closer to me I won’t bite you”. You sat down next to him and he put his arms around you and brought you even closer to him. Then you spend your evening together watching movies and then you made dinner together.

1 years forward

Kylian and you got closer and closer to each other and he really changed for the better and became the man you truly deserved. You even redid your wedding but this time you did it with love for each other. After that Kylian started to show you more appreciation than before for everything you do for him and your kid. He also love how sweet you are with his brother and his niece and nephew. Also love how you and his mother get along and even how good friend you are with his sister in law. He even took you with him on every reward he had and you were always proud of him even when he wouldn’t get a trophy. Even when he would lose in a game he would always seek comfort in your arms especially when he lost World Cup. He was so sad and even then you told him “baby you were so good look you made a hat trick and won the golden boot” “baby I lost I should have scored more so we could have won” he said sobbing and buried his head in your neck.

You and Kylian are still in love with each other. You also gave birth to a baby girl 2 years ago. Her name is Amalie and she is really a daddy’s girl. She loves Kylian more than anything else and they really have a special bond just like you with your son Julian. He is almost 7 years old now and he is the most positive person you know. You are also 7 months pregnant with a boy and you and Kylian can’t be any happier

The Secret History's Dream Sequences.

I saw @bandaiddd post questioning what the meanings behind the ending dream sequence could be. So I decided I'd make my own post discussing all of the dreams and their meanings because they all interconnect and inform one another.

The dreams are actually fairly straight forward, and bring a greater focus to themes and events already shown. Mainly, these dreams serve to show what is 1) Actually happening and 2) Shows Richard and Charles true feelings—I’d also like to bring attention to the fact dreams usually are what your subconscious picks up that your conscious hasn’t yet; It’s why they can sometimes seem premonition like in nature—when in reality, all they are is a peak at the end result of something entirely inevitable.

If It's not clear how I got to a certain conclusion about the characters, follow the links that should clarify some details.

) Richard and Charles train journey: The two were running away from Henry; Their guilt for the murder/s as well obviously, but this dream was a premonition for the disaster to come. Charles we must remember hadn’t wanted to commit the murder, thus his watery recounting of his dream sharing to Richard—Who we should note, noticed Charles upset to begin with despite being as dense as a rock—Is rather telling of his true feelings during this time. 

Henry at this point was about to pressure Charles even more so than before, and the two would keep getting distracted by what seems important but in reality is trivial (Think the sudden discourse with Camilla) Until their times up, and they have to wake up and face the music.

) Bunny in the bathtub: The goldfish represent Bunny; the fish isn’t rare or unique, and yet you still see them in luxurious places such as expensive restaurants or well-off businesses. The eyes being different sizes is showing how Bunny felt two extremes of emotions before/during his death—The large pupil representing his immense love and adoration for Henry; and the opposite side, his pinprick terror for his best-friend.

Richard felt terror at the potential of being caught in this dream because it represented how he was grasping his new life and didn’t want to let it go; He loved beauty, he loved Hampton—he’d do anything for it: But in the end, he’s drowning from the consequences. The fishbowl gets knocked over—Bunny falls off the cliff, and shatters. The corpse is dropped, and the splash is Richard's actions backfires immensely, and the enviable loss of the beauty he’d obtained finally commences.

) The Abandoned Baby: This dream was a manifestation of Richard's realization of what Bunny’s family was actually like underneath all the glamor and false love. The cemetery was a famous one, but a cemetery is a place of death no matter how you pretty it up. The baby was how Bunny in reality had been treated throughout his childhood, and Richard's comment is how he both felt about the way Buns family reacted to the funeral and how Bunny had been entirely abandoned at Hampden without any financial support from his family.

The man behind Richard was Bunny, and the ‘’He knew, that I knew.’’ Was in reference to both Bunny now knowing that Richard knew about the farmer, and had been apart of the conspiracy to kill him—but also that Richard knew the truth behind Bunny’s behaviour; It could also be said the baby from before represented how Richard when it came down to it saw Bunny as someone innocent; you don't get much more innocent than a baby.

) Charles Dante: Brief dream but says a lot about Charles mental state at the time—He felt horrific guilt for Bunny’s and the Farmers death; It was the real reason for his mental collapse, it was never Camilla that had caused this, she was nothing but a red herring—But Richards distracted from this fact until it’s too late.

) @bandaiddd here is my answer to your question: Julian lays down the groundwork for the incoming dream well enough; Ghosts are the light of dying stars in our minds, and what we are about to witness is the ghost of Richard’s dying memories of Henry.

Henry is a man whose childhood is in ruins, a man so abused and whose mental collapse is so abhorrent that Henry is unrecognizable when compared to what little humanity he had when Bunny was still there to ground him; It’s why the dream takes place in a deserted city in complete ruin—The futuristic aspects are where Henry’s perfectionism leaked threw as he tried to rebuild himself amongst the wreckage.

It’s notable Henry showed up when the contraption shifted to the Pantheon, if you recall, Henry made a comment about Richard’s living quarters being similar—It’s why he says ‘’I thought I’d find you here.’’ Now this is where I tear up, as that moment in the frozen workshop is when Richard fell inlove with Henry, and became entirely devout to him.

Richard never accepted Henry’s death, deep down he thinks he’s still alive. Many of us, after reading the book, believed it to be so too. What hurt me most was that question coming up again: ‘’Are you happy here?'' It’s in reference to the same warm moment of acceptance at Francis’ country house. ‘’Not particularly.’’ Henry had made the comment in reference to Richard running away from his abusive home, and how he hid his past so well ‘’you're not very happy where you are either'' But it was all for nothing.

Richard searched for happiness, but ultimately it was all meaningless. He was right back where he started, in the end.

More Siblings! Brainrot

Yuno's Perspective

Yuno left to Vesuvia to set up shop and earn money for their family (mainly to support their siblings)

Their parents are dead :(

Yuno would send letters with money to Yuki and Yuu

When Yuno died due to the plauge, they stopped sending letters, causing a lot of concern with the two younger siblings.

By this point, Yuki was the breadwinner of the house, though both of the siblings would be transported to other worlds

Each of the siblings follows the main canon, if only some slight variations.

Mainly, with Yuno, they defeat the devil and ends up becoming friends with all the characters (Lucio isn't banished or whatever. He does step down as king and becomes Nadia's general tho)

Ok anyways Yuno didn't remember their siblings at all after they revived

Since they never mentioned their siblings often, Asra and Julian do not mention Yuki or Yuu to them

Only because Scout guided Yuno back to some of their old childhood memories did Yuno remember.

Yuno went on a journey to find their siblings again, only to find out that they had mysteriously dissapeared

Yuno is freaking out, unsure if they had left due to Yuno disappearing or if they had fallen victim to the Red Plauge

They're devastated, returning back to Vesuvia with a heavy heart.

When they do return, they focus on helping Nadia with improving the Vesuvia, traveling with Portia and Asra and establishing diplomatic relations, training with Lucio, helping the public with Julian, and going back to Muriel's ancestral home to tend to the graves

Then, one day, when Yuno is traveling, Scout appears. Curiously, Scout looks excited, tugging Yuno. They follow, unsure as to where the excited pup was guiding them.

Then, they come onto an empty field, standing on a rock. Confused, Yuno looked down, and saw their two siblings.

Cue a very tearful reunion between the siblings.

"Where were you??" "I died." "YOU WHAT?"

Yuki and Yuu were shocked to hear that Yuno had died due to the plague, but was later revived. Their siblings were disheartened to hear that they did not remember the two of them, however they are glad that Yuno went to look for them once they did remember

Now, Yuki and Yuu explain what they have been up to.

Yuno is shocked that they ended up in different worlds. Which is odd, but magic exists anything can really happpen.

They're about to throw hands with Crowley. How dare he leave their precious sibling in some run down building!? Did he even offer them food and water?

Yuno also feels terrible, wishing that they taught Yuu some simple magic spells that would've helped them during their time at NRC

Nearly dies of a heart attack after hearing how many times Yuu has almost died. Overblots? Hardly know 'em. Absolutely horrified at Twisted Wonderland's magic system

Yuki was in hell. Yuki was in hell.

Yuno's going to pull up to hell and beat up Belphegor for actually murdering Yuki. Even if they are alive.

Yuno is happy that Yuki knows magic, and is willing to teach Yuki more (Mostly self defense magic for...reasons)

Now Yuno wants to meet Yuki and Yuu's friends/found family and make sure that they're being treated with the love that they themselves couldn't give them.

"Really? What’s Julian’s fourth period?” Ash asked. I pushed open the door with my shoulder, pausing briefly to think. “Gym.”

I have a hard time understanding how magic works in the arcana. Like what is the limit to their magic abilities? And how do they summon it

Hi anon friend!

I'm going to have to be honest with you - this actually isn't something I've spent a lot of time thinking about, so if I get something wrong or the theories I come up with aren't as cohesive as normal, please take what I suggest with a grain of salt XD (essay under the cut)

For starters, the devs did very little exposition when it comes to how magic works in that world - most of what we know is from events in the different character's routes and random comments in the ask arcana posts (e.g., saying that Lucio has always wanted to do magic but can't because he just doesn't have the aptitude - though in Julian's route, one of the MC's big learning moments with him is teaching him that anyone can do magic if they have the right chances)

When it comes to performing magic, we see the most detailed descriptions of how that works in Asra's route and in the MC's memories of learning magic from them. The big emphasis there is that magic is a combination of creativity and faith. You center yourself, calm your mind, vividly picture the thing that you want to happen, and then draw on your belief that it will. MC encourages Julian to follow a similar process when they teach him how to summon a small flame. We also see that in Portia's route, when the air is already charged with magic and she gets so caught up in her rage that she summons magic to her fist.

A key aspect here, though, is the source of learning and the source of magic. MC (and Julian by extension) learns magic the way Asra teaches it, and Asra in turn learned magic mainly from the Magician arcana themself as a small child. We see a flashback of him as a fresh orphan exploring the magical realms as a way of surviving the human reality, and the Magician taking him under their wing and teaching him their ways. (We also know from the travel at night tale that Asra knows some magic from their alchemist parent's books on it - more on that later)

What all of these situations have in common (Asra's childhood in the realms, MC relearning magic in the Fool's body, Julian learning magic in the Tower's realm, and Portia using magic as the realms collide) is an unusual saturation of magic's availability. The realms are the source of magic into the human world, and we know that from what happens in Portia's reversed ending when the realms and human world are separated and the magic supply is cut off. This suggests that the average person does not learn magic as quickly or perform it as powerfully we see it happening in the routes.

On the other hand, magic still seems like a fairly commonplace thing! MC makes an entire livelihood off of a magic shop, a business that's been around for more than one generation, and neither they nor any magic users are shown facing stigma for it. The one instance we have of any kind of discrimination towards it is Julian's use of the word "witch", something the devs implied was the Vesuvian equivalent of a slur towards magic users. However, this seems to be an entirely personal prejudice - Julian's younger sister Portia has roughly the same cultural background, and she loves all things magic!

We see characters like Mazelinka, Barth the Bartender, Nadia pre-plague (I think she incorporated bits of magic into the stuff she liked to tinker with?) and Portia in one or two upright endings using magic casually as part of day-to-day life without there being a lot of fanfare. Magic use in Vesuvia seems a lot like literacy in Vesuvia - the capacity to learn it is there, but due to poor infrastructure/exposure to learning opportunities, people fall back on what they can learn from friends and family members.

We also know about cultures like Zadith, where science and magic are studied as the combined field of alchemy (Asra's parents Aisha and Salim are alchemists and used that field to create Lucio's arm). Bouncing off of that, there's a moment in Nadia's route where drawing a magic circle and gathering elements is required to send her and MC into the realms - something that's accomplished using Asra's Zadithian parents' spellbooks. Not to mention Muriel's particular form of magic, which involves casting runes and weaving protection charms.

This doesn't event begin to touch the kind of magic we see demons like Valdemar, Vulgora, and Vlastomil using, or the magic involved in the Patron Arcana's deals.

Truthfully, depending on the kind of magic you want to write about, you could just choose which background you want. If you want it to be something you study about in books, you can give your character a Prakran education. If you want it to function alongside science, you can give them a background from Zadith. If you want to make magic about intuitive practice and creativity (like the MC), then you could give them a background where they were exposed to the realms. If you want to make it something more mundane that's woven into family recipes and practices around the house, you could make them a Vesuvian resident who never got to learn officially. If you want to make up your own approach, you could make up your own background to go with it!

In the end, the short answer is that magic exists and different people and cultures use it different ways. How that works out is up to what you want to explore in your creativity ^.^

First film I saw at the cinema

My mother used the cinema as her nanny. She had an arrangement with the usherette where she would go shopping and leave my sister and me at the cinema. When she had finished shopping she would come down the aisle and wave a white hanky — that was our sign to leave. Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot was the first film I remember seeing. Jacques Tati was such a great clown.

First time I cried at the cinema

I don’t tend to cry over films. Usually I cry in front of paintings or at concerts. I did, however, sob through the film Brief Encounter. It’s so terribly touching. I still get a lump in my throat every time I watch it.

First time I performed on a stage

My first job was at 20, as Tammy the tightrope walker in a Christmas show at the Nottingham Playhouse. Theatre is always anxious-making and it gets worse when you’re older. There have been some funny things happening while I’ve been on stage, though. One audience member heckled Ralph Richardson and me over bad language during the play West of Suez when we performed in Brighton. Another acclaimed actor, who will remain nameless, was embarrassingly drunk on the stage once, forcing me to say his lines and mine. It was madness.

First TV show I watched

We didn’t have a television for a long time while I was a child. I think we had one for the coronation but then it seemed to go. It wasn’t until I was a bit older that I became aware of television, and even now I don’t seem to have much time to watch things, mainly because I’m busy acting in plays and TV shows like Downton Abbey, which was a wonderful experience. It was a surprise to us all, including the writer Julian Fellowes, that it was so successful here and everywhere. It was particularly lovely to work with Maggie Smith because she was one of the actors I had always admired. I would be very keen to come back to the show if it were to return. I can hardly leave it now.

First book I loved

I was dyslexic as a child, at a time when dyslexia wasn’t diagnosed. You didn’t get much help — people just thought you were stupid. My dyslexia seems to have got better with age, but when I was younger I was read to by my mother and my older sister rather than reading myself. The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame was a favourite.

First album I bought

Please Please Me by the Beatles. Growing up I listened to romantic music like Dionne Warwick on the radiogram in our sitting room. Nowadays I listen to more classical music, but I still have a soft spot for the Beatles. Sadly I lost that LP when we moved houses.

First concert I attended

The 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky at the Royal Albert Hall when I was about ten. They had real cannons that went off. I only started going to concerts when I was older. My late husband, the [Roads to Freedom] actor Daniel Massey, was a great classical music fan. He taught me a lot about music, in particular jazz and Erroll Garner.

First pop-inspired fashion trends I adopted

Hotpants and thigh-length boots in bright pink suede. Once you went to drama school, you didn’t have any money and could do what you wanted looks-wise. It was all flower power then, so we would walk around with no shoes on, throwing flowers at each other. It was alternative but lovely.

First actor I admired

Michael Redgrave. I saw him give the most tremendous performance in Uncle Vanya at Chichester in 1963 when I was 17. Laurence Olivier was the Doctor. Together they were funny and heartbreaking. Redgrave was a wonderful actor and, more importantly, a wonderful man.

First moment I realised I wanted to be an actress

I went to a pantomime once and there was a whoosh and the curtain went up. There was this bright light and warm air came out. I thought, “I don’t know why I’m sitting in the dark here. I’d like to be up there.”

First famous person I met

Jonathan Miller when he came to Nottingham Playhouse to direct King Lear. I was a bit starstruck then, but meeting the royal family is the only time I get truly anxious.

First moment I realised I’d made it

Even at my age I don’t think I have. If you started, you wouldn’t be very good. So I will continue to try.

Ghosts pirate AU

Captain - the captain of the ship, obviously. There is a small mutiny in the equivalent of the episode "Getting Out" but they make him Captain again when they realise they're useless without him. He's a good and fair captain and once they get past the initial intimidation, he's actually very loveable.

Thomas - the ship's (very dramatic) scribe. He's very in love with Alison and he tries to add poetry to the ship's notes. It doesn't work out well. He had a sweetheart back on land at one point, but after receiving the news that she had married his cousin in his absence, he first tried to walk the plank and then swiftly moved on to Alison.

Kitty - stowed away on the ship as a young child and is now an essential member of the crew for moral support. Her own family were bad to her and as such the Captain treats her as his daughter. She takes in injured animals, meaning that the ship now has a small zoo in its hold. Nobody knows how she finds them, but they would die for her.

Pat - the first mate. He seconds Captain's points but would never actually want to lead the ship on his own. He has a pet parrot called Goldie who overheard Carol and Daley mocking him and now occasionally mocks him too (allowing for a Season 4 Christmas Special arc). He frequently teaches the other crew members important life lessons, and his sunny outlook brightens everyone's day. He gets seasick sometimes.

Robin - the ship's navigator. He was the original owner of the ship and nobody quite knows how long he's been around, but he's surprisingly wise. He navigates using the stars and even though they frequently get lost, he says the resulting adventure makes up for it. Everyone agrees.

Julian - the ship drunk. He was once a high ranking nobleman, but ran away from his family and responsibilities for a life on the sea. He spends most of his time drinking and playing chess with Robin, although he has his occasional moments of depth. He teaches the parrot to swear.

Humphrey - the lookout. He's afraid of heights but doesn't mention it because he doesn't want to be a bother. He was taken into custody due to the actions of his wife, the pirate queen, and was saved from imminent execution by Captain and his crew.

Mary - the cook. She burns all of the food but nobody ever complains because they don't want to upset her. She writes a lot of letters to an old friend back on land, but the friend doesn't seem to know that she's a pirate. It's implied that she was chased out of her hometown and ended up on the ship, but nobody knows why.

Fanny - the disgruntled hostage. She was taken from a cruise ship by the pirates, and they were planning on leaving her on a desert island because of all her complaining. However, their ship was almost hijacked by rival pirates, and through some combination of extreme complaining and entitlement, she scared them away. They keep her around just in case.

Annie - Mary's childhood friend. They grew up together and were incredibly close, with Annie helping Mary find her voice. However, when Mary had to leave her hometown, she also had to leave Annie, and so Annie waits at a cliff edge to watch the incoming ships, hoping one of them will bring Mary back. Most of the people in her town think she's waiting for the return of some lover or husband.

Havers - once Captain's first mate. The crew speculates about the precise nature of their relationship, but Captain is private enough that he would never tell anyone. However, Havers left the pirate life to join the British Navy in a clemency programme. After he left, Captain was heartbroken. He still hopes that Havers will return some day, and often crew members catch him staring off across the sea as if he'll see Havers' ship coming towards him across the horizon.

Plague Ghosts - the lesser crew. They mainly keep to themselves in the hold of the ship, and most of the main crew try and avoid them because they have scurvy. They all stick together, though, and they keep the ship running, although they get little recognition for it.

Jemima - the child of one of the lesser crew. She was raised on the ship and will one day make a strong pirate - possibly even a pirate queen. She isn't seen around the ship much, but she can sometimes be heard singing haunting old sea shanties from the stern of the ship. Other passing ships assume she's a siren.

Humphrey's wife - the pirate queen. She's wanted in at least 10 countries for extreme piracy, and her actions almost got Humphrey killed. There was always a barrier between them, of both language and culture, and yet Humphrey still tried to take the fall for her treachery. It's unknown how she feels about him, but every so often the ship gets a delivery of a large number of coins. They assume this is a thank you.

Alison and Mike - new hostages. The crew jokes about Alison being related to Fanny because they're both hostages, but due to her far nicer temperament and friendly nature, she soon becomes a staple of the ship. Mike does handiwork around the ship, and although still very unnerved by the pirates, tries his best to live with them. Alison makes negotiations when the ship makes landfall because her social skills are far better than the rest of the crew, and she's probably the only one who wouldn't be arrested on sight. Alison knows full well about Thomas's affections but refutes them at every turn.

The boat - The Button. It used to be called The Rogue Rider when Robin owned it, but when Kitty joined the crew, she would only call it the Button (for reasons unknown), and the name stuck. The ship has been around for who knows how long, and carries secrets that few could even guess at. Sometimes it even seems to have its own sentience, although nobody understands how. What they do know is that when a new crew member comes aboard, there's already a room waiting for them, and sometimes they'll enter their room only to find it has rearranged itself. The ship always seems to know what the crew need at any given time.

Some random ghosts headcanons of mine (may have some ships):

- When Pat first died he decided that it would be his duty to find Humphrey when he got lost, but promptly forgot when he had the idea of starting clubs

-Fanny, Captain and Thomas have a secret 'Gossip Club' (Julian comes to it every now and again)

-Pat wasn't wearing his wedding ring when he died (canon I think??) and got super upset about it for a while

- Kitty and Pat have a dance club together (the others can join If and when they want to)

- Julian discovered his powers from playing chess with Robin

- Humphreys record for keeping his head on his shoulders was a whopping 30 seconds

- Captain was horrific at cooking when he was alive, Humphrey, Thomas, Fanny and Kitty never really had to cook for themselves, Pat was pretty good at cooking but amazing at baking, Mary probably would have been the best at cooking out of all of them and Julian just ate takeaway and at restaurants mainly

- Mike wouldn't shut up about seeing Robin for about a week after it happened (neither would Robin)

-Mike and Julian communicate through Google docs on Mike's laptop

-Alison hasn't gotten a good night's sleep since she inherited the house

-Mary and Annie had something going on and you can't tell me otherwise

-Julian and Thomas have monthly sports tournaments using Humphreys head

- Julian and Pat fight alot over football and stuff

- Kitty had a pet rabbit when she was alive (it's name was tibbles)

- Captain did have a pet called Barry when he was alive, but it was a cat

- The ghosts kind of adopted the pidgeon when it died ( Humphrey still holds a grudge)

- Julian learnt how to edit Wikipedia pages and made himself out to be some sort of saint

- Captain found those World War Two in Colour documentaries on Netflix one time and it took 4 hours to pry him away from the screen

you may already know this romanian scientist as the subject of this popular and famous photo, the first-ever photograph taken underwater, with an exposure time of 30 minutes:

it was taken in 1899 at the oceanographic laboratory in banyuls-sur-mer, france, where racovitza was working at the time in his capacity as a pioneering marine biologist.

however, a mere year prior, racovitza had been suffering through a harsh antarctic winter as a member of the scientific staff on board the belgica, the ice-locked ship of the belgian antarctic expedition.

(for more on this expedition i am beseeching you to read MADHOUSE AT THE END OF THE EARTH which you can find at your library probably or on various illicit webbed sites as well as bookstores!!!)

but the basic summary is, raco (as he was known) was one of the first men hired onto the expedition by leader adrien de gerlache, who was essentially a trust fund kid with a lifelong obsession with ships, sailing, and exploration. which was kind of unfortunate for someone from belgium, a country with little coastline to speak of and a navy that was mainly for show. this was the late 19th century and most belgians were hella amped re doing atrocities in the congo but no, not good old adrien. instead his heart was fixed on making belgium a name to be reckoned with in the world of polar exploration. cue laugh track

anyway raco came along for the ride, he was also from a rich family so it helped that he offered to serve without pay. also look at him. you would want him on your ship. you would want him, like, in general. i certainly do. he's like if the man on the pringles can exuded unbearable erotic energy.

raco's official duties on the expedition included collecting and analyzing zoological and botanic samples from the sea, ice, and land; conducting meteorological readings; documenting the wildlife and landscape; and all sorts of other vital scientific tasks. and being cute.

however his most important job on the expedition by far was probably that of resident cartoonist:

Another beloved monotony-breaking ritual was the presentation of Racovitza’s daily cartoon. In addition to his skill at anatomical drawing, the zoologist was a scathing caricaturist with an eastern European fondness for the absurd and a scatological streak. Though bawdy and puerile, Racovitza’s pencil sketches were an unfiltered take on life aboard the Belgica, a chronicle of the men’s frustrations and inside jokes.

listen. when julian said these cartoons were bawdy i was like yeah sure okay. but my god, the man did not hold back. he was KINKY. he was obsessed with butts in particular, drawing the ass of his scientific colleague henryk arctowski over and over, including comparisons to the flat backside of lieutenant danco:

there were also cartoons dealing with shitting blood, watching women piss, and naked boxing. you can literally look at them all yourself although i will say they're about 1000x funnier if you know the people involved so it's a nice treat after you finish reading madhouse. but here's another favorite demonstrating the harsh realities of an icebound ship ("promenade in the caca avenue"):

anyway while the life-threatening chaos of this frathouse-esque expedition was going on around him, and cook and amundsen were off somewhere staring into each other's eyes like in the "is this allowed!?!" vine, raco continued doing important scientific work, pranking the hell out of his shipmates, and also being adorable.

eventually the expedition freed themselves from the ice and returned home. raco resumed his research career, working with the other members of the expedition to compile and publish the results of their findings, and eventually rising in the ranks of the scientific establishment of europe.

basically what i love about raco and what brings me joy every day to contemplate is that he was clearly an enormous goof with a wide variety of deranged fetishes, but also a brilliant and hard-working scientist who founded an entirely new scientific field (biospeleogy, the study of cave organisms) and grew up to be a hot dad, the most badass looking grandpa, and ended his life as one of the most respected and renowned scientists in all of romanian history. he's on stamps!!!!!!!!!!!! sometimes i reflect on how he seems to be a man before his time, but also i guess i am grateful he was born in the 1800s and not the 80s because i think if he had access to the internet he definitely would've been a chronic shitposter and not got nearly as much important science done.

My Issues with Portia’s Route

(Spoilers)

I’m gonna cut straight to the chase: Portia doesn’t go through any significant character development. Now, I know that some may say that in her Upright ending, she no longer keeps secrets. Sure, that may be true, but the devs ignored something about her character that was established early on in her route. She felt like she was the side character in her own story. She felt small, like she couldn’t do anything to help. All she wants to do is to save her brother, and for a moment, she felt as though she couldn’t even do that. She doesn’t know her worth

Those secrets of hers were all kept so that she could get closer and closer to finding her brother and bringing him home safe. Everything she did was based around that hope. Well, aside from inviting the whole Satrinava family to the masquerade. That was out of her starting to care for Nadia. Yes, Portia’s secrets did get out of hand, but it seems that the devs ignored the reason why she kept those secrets in the first place.

Then, there’s the deal with Tasya. I understand why the devs did what they did. All the LIs had some sort of connection to Lucio, the main villain. All of them, that is, except for Portia. Tasya was added so that Portia could have a personal connection with the villain of the story. Tasya is a great character, but I personally don’t like her addition to Portia’s route. It took everything the story established about Lucio being the villain and twisted it on its head. Now, Julian turns himself in to…protect Portia? The whole shtick with the Hanged Man was completely erased. It was addressed in the route, sure, but that was about it. Tasya’s addition to the story reminds me of how Disney was writing twist villains for a while. She twisted everything on its head until the story was too different than how it was originally laid out to be. Lucio and his many crimes weren’t even addressed when he was brought back to life! We don’t even know what happened to him in Portia’s Upright ending

I feel as though Lucio could’ve still worked as the villain in Portia’s route if the devs remembered how Portia saw herself as the side character in her own story. Lucio wouldn’t know who she is, but The Devil would. This could lead to The Devil trying to tempt Portia into deals, and at the very end, him brutally taunting her and telling her that she’s weak. That she’s powerless to save anyone.

The Upright and Reversed endings for each LI correlate to the tarot card they’re associated with. For Portia, it’s The Star. Both endings seem to do a decent job at this, as in her Upright ending, Portia is hopeful for the future ahead of her. Meanwhile, in the Reversed ending, Portia has lost her zest for life. However, I don’t like Portia’s reversed ending. She’s still the main character of her own story, something that (in my opinion) should’ve been focused on in her route. Of course, the outcome of each route also correlates to the character arc of each LI. The reversed meaning of The Star mainly refers to hopelessness. Despite the changes to everything, Portia still seemed pretty hopeful.

It isn’t just Portia’s route with issues like these; both Muriel’s and Lucio’s routes are riddled with plot holes and other problems saved for a different post. Portia was just completely sidelined by the devs in terms of her story, and were simply shoving in plot points for the sake of plot by the end of her route. Portia has more development in Nadia’s route and Julian’s route than in her own.

And we didn’t even have the masquerade in Portia’s route. I’m still salty to this day.

Of course, if you like Portia’s route, that’s completely ok. It’s a fun route, I will say that. However, it just has way more cons than pros.
