okay last one for the night but. honestly i really hate how the franchise has been using loyalty to Rick as a shield for so long. If Rick was involved in a project or not doesn't matter, especially not anymore.

ReadRiordan and the publishing for the franchise has been using this tactic for ages - they obscure if any writing related to the series wasn't written by Rick unless it's special circumstances. It's near impossible to find out who the ghostwriters are (Stephanie True Peters and Mary-Jane Knight). TSATS was promoted as the first time we got a non-Riordan (Rick or Haley) author working on one of the companion novels despite having seven already existing ghostwritten books in the series. The only reason Mark Oshiro was emphasized so heavily for TSATS was because they also work as a sensitivity reader for topics such as queer identity, and Rick had received backlash in the past for being a Straight Cis Old White Guy repeatedly falling into bad habits (that he hasn't broken out of) with certain characterizations that he kept doubling-down on or retconning into oblivion. The show emphasizes that Rick was involved, but the LA Times article brings into question exactly how much he was involved, and it doesn't even really matter either way. The ReadRiordan site actively avoids putting any writing credits on their articles (or art credits...) or anywhere on their site.

Practically the entire fandom unanimously agrees the musical - which had zero involvement from Rick - is the best adaptation of the series so far, including the TV show. Some of the best writing to come out of the series recently was the stuff ghostwritten by Stephanie True Peters (Camp Half-Blood Confidential, Camp Jupiter Classified, Nine from the Nine Worlds, etc). And yet when promotional stuff is posted about CHB:C, there's clearly coded language used to hide the fact that Rick himself didn't write it. Yes, that's how ghostwriters work, but at this point we should really stop pretending "Rick Riordan" isn't just a pen name for a group of authors like "Erin Hunter" and that Rick is actually writing everything in the series. I can easily look up and see which Animorphs books were ghostwritten, and who those authors were. I can find every "Erin Hunter" easily listed on official sites. And yet most people don't even know the Riordanverse franchise has ghostwriters at all.

And the franchise is still trying to use the "Tio/Uncle Rick" stuff. Author loyalty and marketing parasocial relationships isn't going to save the franchise when the author himself can't hold up his own original themes or even keep basic series bible details straight, and especially not if the editors are barely if at all doing their job. And please at least get a goddamn series bible by this point.

Help?

The update on things is that the housemate is financially flat-lined. If 'thoughts and prayers' were actual currency then I'd be covered for a decade's worth of rent by this point.

For those who don't know: the housemate has become mobility disabled due to a life-altering injury, and then there's the other medical conditions that took the opportunity to go "hiiii, we're heeeere!" They're in a care facility at this point--they've been there since the beginning of December 2023.

I cannot cover the rent on my own, in its entirety, because I do not pull in enough income to do so. I've depleted my tiny buffer and have no other resources. Family is unable to help any more than they already do. Being Autistic, and trying to handle all my Things while dealing with this on my own is making it very difficult to maintain what little 'cool-headedness' I've had in my day to day. I am drowning under the pressure and therapy and meds can only get me so far.

Please, please help.

Love me, Love me not

To gain power and cause chaos Klarion summons the Ghost King; when Danny appears in the summoning circle Klarion confesses that he is in love with him, and he is what he always dreamed of, the halfa is confused at first but the witch boy sounds so certain that he starts to believe it.

After some time with him Danny starts to like the witch and considers dating him, but the more time they spend together, the more doubtful he becomes about his decision and one day the halfa finally asks "Why do you love me?" Klarion immediately replies "Because you are powerful"

Danny is confused by that answer. He had been helping Klarion for a couple of days and the boy always praised his power, but surely he had to love something else? Feeling his heart in his throat the halfa asked "And what else?", Klarion remains silent.

Is a bittersweet revelation for Danny, who thought someone finally loved him for more than just his power, he probably should have seen it coming; but they had been through so much, discovered so much about the world together, that the Ghost King foolishly thought they were really falling in love.

Before the boy can break his heart into more pieces, the King runs away feeling like the world's biggest idiot. Of course Klarion only wanted power from him, he said so from the beginning. But Danny wanted so badly to believe otherwise.

He could go back and kill him with a snap of his fingers, but what good would it do? He would only be destroying himself, because at the end of the day the Ghost King fell in love with the Witch boy.

When Danny runs, Klarion realizes that he was in love with him, but maybe it's too late for that

it wouldn’t be your first thought when looking at him. he was so sure of himself. not a single sign of weakness in sight, at least not to the naked eye. if you dug deep enough, you’d see gojo for what he really was. tired.

he came home late one night, shoulders slumped and body heavy. the moon hung high in the sky, painting your bedroom in cooling white light. gojo had tried not to jostle you awake while he crawled into bed, but your pretty eyes peaked open to meet his. even when awoken from your warm slumber, you smile at him. no anger or hate behind your eyes. no depravity, no death. he saw your smile falter, turning into one of concern. your hand reaches up to cup his face, the wall of infinity no longer there. your thumb presses under his eye, tickling his eyelashes with soft swipes.

“are you okay?”

gojo began to crumble in that moment, something he hadn’t done in a long time. his bones gave way and he fell into your warmth. how could you be so warm? it was cruel to leave this warmth day after day.

you let out a soft oof on impact, opening your mouth to question him but shutting up at the soft sighs tickling your neck. you relax, shifting under his weight to get in a comfortable position. you slip a hand into his hair, nails trailing down over his scalp. he shivers, tingles traveling up his spine and through his shoulders. you pause for a moment, watching his back rise and fall. he shifts, head pressing into your hand, silently begging you to please keep going.

gojo had never felt more vulnerable in his life. infinity down, exhausted to his core. you could hurt him physically and emotionally in this moment. tear at his skin until blood coats the sheets, leaving him battered and scarred. you could do anything one’s greedy heart desired, but you didn’t. you couldn’t. instead, you hum softly at him, trailing loving hands over his scalp and back. a smile on your face.

in this moment, gojo was allowing himself to submit to love. to accept the love he never thought would be his and his alone.

Now I'm stuck here working at this haunted ass building during the graveyard shift for no fucking reason.
