Y/N and Ken walked hand and hand towards the beach where their counterparts were waiting for them, but also soaking up some sun. They stood at the top of the sand dunes before Y/N cleared his throat, gaining the attention of the Kens and Y/Ns.

"Attention my fellow Y/Ns and Kens. Ken and I have been to the real world for a couple of days and we've discovered that the men there are very different from here in Barbie Land." Y/N said.

"Yeah. Unless you're chicken, Ken?" Tourist Ken/Rival Ken taunted.

Ken huffed in defiance as he looked at Y/N. "Come on, Y/N. Let's show them how real men beach off." He pulled his shorts down to reveal a mint green jockstrap as Y/N blushed and pulled his own pants down as he and Ken started to beach off for their counterparts.

"See? This is how you beach someone off, Ken!" Beach Ken snapped in between moans.

While I was busy writing my reply to Civilian!AU anon, I started to notice how many absolute CLOWNS in NSR are wearing sunglasses at night.

The writers are 100% doing this on purpose because Buck and Eddie with other love interests would be SO much more shippable to me if they DIDN’T flirt because it feels exactly like Eddie described anyways - like performing.

It seems like they’re putting on a persona because we never see this side of them otherwise and it makes this idea for me of the separation of friendship and romance rather than the joining of the two.

Buck and Eddie won’t end up with anyone their behavior shifts around as soon as they start considering them as a romantic prospect.

And I would be so much more supportive of those other relationships if they just acted like people aren’t them and not like they were trying to actively maintain the other person’s attention. Because then they don’t seem relaxed even if they are enjoying themself in that person’s company. There’s still this strain because it isn’t how they act in their base state that we see them in constantly. Too much effort is being put into those interactions.

They’re playing that game, doing that dance, following the unspoken “courting rules” and “flirting” and joking and putting their best foot forward and flashing the smile and clearly not just being themselves.

Which I just realized, I think is why we so often didn’t see them with their partners AND the 118. Because it is two completely different sides of them. With the 118 is their full, true self and with their partner is this “romantic” side to them where they’re trying all the time. And those sides of them don’t mix so they can’t have their romantic partner in the same place as the 118 or the contrast would be too obvious of the differing comfort level whether it be because they seemed more drawn to the 118 or Buck/Eddie respectively or just because they seem more tense or excluding of the 118 than they would usually around them.`

We literally watched Eddie put it on and that’s what made me think of this. He turned and starting acting differently as soon as he saw it was Marisol. That isn’t cute or romantic - or it shouldn’t be. It would have been so much more on board had he continued acting completely the same and still had chemistry with her. It would have felt more human. But instead we watched him change himself - put on that performance that he had complained about.

Because Eddie still has so much cognitive dissonance, struggle with letting those ideas exist, between “don’t look like I didn’t look for Shannon”, “don’t compare her to Shannon”, “don’t put on a performance”, and then his own idea of what he needs do to keep someone, or perhaps just his reaction to his flirting being made fun of - to flirt harder and more unnaturally rather than just relaxing.

Honestly, I think he had the most chemistry with Vanessa. Of all his love interests besides Shannon - because we saw him and Shannon far after that initial stage. Because he didn’t go into it looking for anything from her. THAT’S THE WHOLE POINT. A big part of that is not looking and therefore not expecting from them or assuming that they will be your one true love and therefore not performing in an act to maintain their attention because you’ve idealized their view of you and the potential or fantasy relationship just by the first romantic interaction.

He needs to stop expecting everyone to be his future spouse. That’s what no comparing to Shannon, no looking for it/waiting for it, and no performing ultimately means. Connect on a human level. We have never seen him do that with anyone after he started considering them romantically. 

I think hopefully this relationship - which I don’t think will be endgame but I do think will be longterm because they wouldn’t have two like one week relationships in a row PLUS Eddie and Buck’s arcs require different things - will teach him to treat his future partners like people and that part of not seeking out or waiting for it to avoid idealizing. That way when he finally views Buck that way, his behavior won’t change.

Or maybe viewing Buck that way is what will teach. Because his feelings will have come out of all the interactions they’ve had when he was completely relaxed. Although, I don’t trust him to be that self-aware right now, so I do still think he needs to learn that lesson, however funny Eddie awkwardly trying to flirt with Buck semi-subtly would be.
