Elias goes out of his way to call the meal spaghetti alla bolognese, because he knows the Italian chef they hired has a temper and really wants him to stay.

Peter meanwhile leaps out from the fog at the poor chef and says: "HEY THAT SPAG BOL WAS SCRUMMY! NEXT TIME ADD SOME CHEDDAR OR DAIRYLEE SLICES!"

Because Peter likes winding him up. Also he wants to the chef to quit, cuz he's a pretentious prickly bastard who isn't pleased with anything.

And if Elias doesn't like it, well then it's twofer, getting rid of both.

i know that we clown on the “there is a dog l o o s e in the archives” situation a lot, but i’m kind of obsessed with the symbolism of the spaniel. it’s just...ugh. the image of jon recording his first statement, doomed from the second he sits down at the desk where Gertrude died, and he’s interrupted with news about the dog. it’s annoying, it’s inconvenient--just like his subordinate who delivers the news. 

Jon’s right. Martin doesn’t belong in the archives, but by elias’s and the web’s insistence some twist of fate he’s there, anyways. 

Martin can’t save anyone. The dog changes nothing--subtextually, it’s clearly written as a joke. But it is important that they--bright spots in unlikely places--ran in to the darkness of Jon’s life and the story, respectively

I feel like a lot of the gender discourse going on right now could easily be shut down with the “nice dichotomy, what lies outside of it?” post. Like so much of TME vs TMA discourse is centered on creating new false binaries, because transandrophobics don’t actually care about deconstructing the gender/sex binary in any meaningful way

FUCKING LITERALLY. it's literally just speedrunning every binary we have already created and rejected, over and over and over because they cannot let go of their neo ra/df/em Oppressor Group vs Victim Group mentality. and it is so. fucking. white.

i have talked before about ashkenormativity, and how that affects me as a non ashkenazi jew. how it's harder for me to access resources specifically related to italki culture and customs, no synagogues in the us (that i know of) use the italian rite, literally no goyim ever know what the fuck i'm talking about when i say that i'm italki. they sometimes understand when i say it's "similar to sephardi", but most goyim only know about ashkenazi jews and their history and their culture. it's an incredibly isolating experience, and it's not just goyim who make me feel isolated, it's also ashkenazi jews who neglect to educate themselves about jewish cultures outside their own and them tell me i'm wrong because i'm doing something in a way that isn't in line with ashkenazi standards. almost every jewish institution in america is centered around ashkenazi standards and ashkenazi culture.

ashkenormativity affects my ability to connect with my ancestors' customs and keep my culture alive. it makes me the odd one out in just about every jewish space. and i think it's the responsibility of ashkenazi jews to be aware of this and do their best to respect that. but that doesn't mean that they have systemic privilege over me.

so it's just absolutely bizarre to me when ppl insist that any perceived inch higher on the Oppression Ladder (which of course only includes gender) any one oppressed group has means they are Privileged and Systemically Oppress everyone below them. i seriously cannot wrap my head around this logic.

I am awake minutes ago to see this year in, so that I could save as much sleep as possible. That being said, I had enough time to write a sappy little ramble about 2023 while I waited.

Woah. ‘23 was a big year for me, thinking about it. I changed my life this year. Biggest and most important, I transed my gender in public! ‘Milo’ was finally chosen this year, I believe. And as part of that, I no longer talk to the people I used to see every day last year and have made Much better friends. 

I have a social life, a support system in place if I need it. And I do activities that bring me joy almost every day that just…weren’t an option before.

This helped me stay sane for the entire year, and i can proudly announce that I haven’t had any lasting episodes of depression this whole time — none that lasted longer than a day!! My resolution last year was simply to stay alive, and guess what! I’m still here, and I’m very much alive. 

Other, simpler things include: 

Started learning Italian, 238 day streak on Duolingo

Part of 3(?) ongoing TTRPG games

Began to listen to fiction podcasts 

Started making a battle jacket, so far only the back piece is done

Went to my first concert in February 

Actually started seeing doctors for chronic(?) pain

Current hyperfixation: the mechs/TMA 

Current pod: hello from the hallowoods

I think that I’ll start writing a journal this year, or at the very least simple notes or something about my everyday life so I can keep track of timelines and information about me easier. 

That being said, I still have a moment so I’m going to put my phone down to think of next years resolution.
