Request #2
Main Masterlist:
Character Masterlist:
Requested by: @nev20
Tumblr media
OMG I'M SO SORRY FOR THE LONG WAIT. I got held up with school and other personal matter 🤧
I turned your idea into an x reader story, I hope you don't mind!
Anyway, here is your request, and I hope you enjoy!
Word Count: 2,567 words. (it's kinda long)
Warning(s): Fluffy fluff, some angst, mentions of Order 66 and death, Leia running away, not proof read, lot’s of uncanon stuff (becuz its better that way)
Reader is GN, or at least I tried to keep it that way. Let me know if I missed anything.
Outline: After Anakin defeats Darth Sidious in a gruesome fight, he leaves the Jedi Order to settle down with you. Fourteen years later, you are both blessed with a daughter and son: Luke and Leia. However, because Anakin Skywalker was a famous Jedi, the descendants of him are worth a lot of money to bounty hunters, so you and Anakin live in constant worry of your beloved children being whisked away, far from your reach.
Our Intentions Were Good, I promise
Tumblr media
“Anakin!” You yelled with a hoarse voice over all the chaos that was going on in the Jedi Temple. You could sense his presence nearby, but with all the Clone Troopers storming around the temple killing Jedi in their wake, you could not help but feel worried for your lover.
You, Anakin and the rest of the Jedi Council discovered that the Sith Lord behind all the issues was none other than the Chancellor. It was a big shock to Anakin, and you knew he felt betrayed since he basically considered him as a father. But you had always had your suspicions, and the discovery only made sense to you.
You hear your name get called through the rubble and dust flying around the temple and you spin on your heels to see where the voice originated from. You let out a shaky breath when you noticed it was Anakin, and he was okay.
“Ani!” You whispered and ran over to him and tightly embraced him in a hug. He hugged you back and buried his head into the side of your neck and inhaled your scent.
“You’re okay, I was so worried for you,” Anakin said, biting back a sob.
“And you’re okay,” you giggled when he began to kiss you tenderly on your cheek.
“Of course I’m okay. I am the Chosen One afterall,” he said with a hint of pride in his voice. You rolled your eyes at his banter and gently kissed his cheek.
“Where’s the Sith Lord? Did you arrest him?”
Anakin hummed in acknowledgement before continuing to kiss your cheek passionately.
“Anakin–I’m trying to have a conversation with you,” you giggled in between kisses.
He sighed heavily and stepped back a bit to look you in your eyes.
“We managed to arrest him, however, Master Windu was. . .killed in the process. Which leaves Obi-Wan as the new Head of the Council.”
You gasped at the news and you felt your eyes burn. Master Windu was your own mentor when you were a Padawan, and basically the Father figure you never had. Even though he seemed very distant and cold-hearted, he would once in awhile have his moments that left great memories of the time when you were a Padawan under his authority.
“It’s alright, darling,” Anakin said, kissing your lips gently. “He’s in a better place now.”
You nodded your head slowly, and buried your face into the crook of his neck.
“Let’s go home, Ani.”
+++
Not long after Order 66, you and Anakin officially left the Jedi Order and got married. It was a small but beautiful ceremony; with only a few people invited. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padme Amidala, and Anakin’s old Padawan, Ahsoka Tano.
About a year later, you brought two beautiful children into the world: Leia and Luke Skywalker. Leia looked a lot like you, but had Anakin’s strong will and personality. Meanwhile, your son looked like a spitting image of your husband, but he had more of your quiet and laid back personality.
Now, your twins were nearing the age of thirteen, and you couldn’t believe how fast your small babies were now young adults.
One problem, however, was the constant worry of your children being abducted from you due to them being related to Anakin. You both were aware that both Luke and Leia had a bounty on their head worth thousands of credits. Anakin and Obi-Wan had both tried to investigate who was behind the order of their capture, but they never succeeded. So, you found yourself being incredibly over-protective of your children.
You homeschooled your children because you were scared of them walking by themselves to and from the public school. You didn’t allow Leia to go out with just her friends even if she was accompanied by their parents, and you never allowed Luke to be outside by himself.
Were you taking all precautions a bit too far? Of course you were. You and
Anakin loved your children and were too attached to risk the chances of them being taken away from you.
+++
“Mom, dad, can we ask you something?”
You looked up from the holopad you were scrolling through and noticed Leia and Luke were both standing in front of you with anxious looks on their faces. You raised your brow and beckoned them to walk up closer to you.
“Yes you two?” Anakin said with a small look of concern on his face.
“Umm. . .” Luke started to say, but immediately lost his train of thought and snapped his mouth shut.
“You know how today marks the fourteenth year of peace throughout the whole galaxy, right?” Leia began.
You glanced at Anakin and noticed he was also confused as to where this conversation was going.
You nodded your head at your daughter to continue and she shakily inhaled.
“There is a parade and fair–”
“No” you and Anakin said at the same time sternly, knowing exactly where this was going.
“But why?” Leia pleaded, tears began to form in her crystal eyes.
Luke sighed heavily, and with heavy footsteps headed to the staircase to head to his room.
You pinched the bridge of your nose in annoyance.
“Leia, we have been over this many times. I would have thought you would know by now.” You said.
Leia’s face slowly morphed into one of pure grief and frustration.
“I HATE THIS! You and dad worrying about EVERYTHING!! This whole thing is so stupid!” And like that, she stormed out of the room and slammed her bedroom door when she reached it.
You shook your head and looked at your husband to see his reaction and noticed he was already looking at you.
“She is kind of right, you know?” You began. “Our children are basically secluded from the rest of the world, let alone other kids their age. It wouldn’t hurt to let them go out once, would it?”
Anakin hummed in thought.
“I’ll think about it. I think you might be right.”
“The parade doesn’t start until nightfall, so you just sit there and put your one brain-cell to work, darling.” You teased as you stood up from the couch you were previously relaxing on and began to head to the kitchen.
“At least I have a brain-cell, sweetheart.” Anakin bit back to which you turned around to smack him on the top of his head.
He chuckled and grabbed a hold of your wrist before pulling you down harshly onto his lap.
“You are such a bully, darling.” Anakin shook his head. You huffed at that.
“And you aren’t?”
“No, I am just your teasing husband.” He said, glancing at your lips before pulling you into a long and passionate kiss. You hummed and smiled into the kiss. You reached your hand behind his head, and moved your hands into his hair, before pulling hard on it, causing Anakin to jump and disconnect your lips.
“HEY! You’ll pay for that!” He warned with a slight smile on his face. You rolled your eyes before squirming out of his tight hold.
“Only if you can get me!” You giggled lightly before sprinting out of the room and running up to your joined bedroom.
+++
“Ugh, why is mom and dad so strict?” Leia complained as she dramatically plopped onto her brother's bed. Luke shrugged and continued to tinker with Lola, Leia’s small robotic companion.
“And you are so helpful Mr. I-don’t-dare-disobey-my-parents.” Leia said with venom  laced in her voice.
Luke sighed heavily and ignored the rest of Leia’s banter.
After a stream of censored cursing and complaining about how her life is so miserable, she decided that she was going to take matters into her own hands.
“I am going to sneak out of the house.” Leia said with some excitement in her voice.
Luke just about choked at his sisters ‘revelation”.
“Umm. . .no you aren’t” He said sternly.
Leia chuckled before sliding off his bed and began to walk over to her slightly older brother.
“You aren’t the boss of me Luke. What are you going to even do, cry and tell mommy and daddy? You’re no fun at all. In fact: you’re straight up boring. I don’t need your consent. I’m doing what I want.”
And with that, she stormed out of the room.
Luke sat at his desk quietly, thinking hard.
“She wouldn’t actually do it, will she?” He asked Lola, who was still off and had most of her parts laid out on the table.
He sighed heavily but decided his sister didn’t have the guts to carry out such a dangerous idea.
Or, so he thought.
+++
“Leia?! O.M.G girl, I thought your parents were gonna say no to you turning up!” Leia smiled when she recognised the face of her best friend, a Twi-Lek named Brigade, and her friend, Han Solo.
“Yeah, they did say no. But I came anyway.” Leia said matter-of-factly.
Brigade gasped and squealed with excitement.
“About time you take control of your life! That’s so badass of you!”
Han Solo chuckled at that and patted Leia’s head fondly.
“And if anything happens, don’t forget I’m here.” he winked.
Leia rolled her eyes at his playful banter and noticed that the streets of Coruscant was more packed than she expected.
“Wow, there’s a lot of people here.” She trailed off.
“Yup. But it’s normal for an event like this.” Brigade said casually.
+++
“Luke, what do you mean she left?” I panicked when I entered Leia’s room and found it empty with her window wide open.
“I-I am so sorry, mother.” Luke stuttered. “I didn’t think she’d actually do it and decided against telling you. I should’ve and I am so sorry.”
Anakin had his arms crossed and he was staring at the ceiling as if it was the most interesting thing in the room. You cleared your throat to gain his attention, to which he obliged.
“Ani? What are we going to do?”
“Well, we need to go find her, first of all. But this event is a planet-wide thing and I don’t even know where to start looking.”
Luke gulped and began to burst into tears.
“I am so sorry! It’s all my fault!”
You reached out to your son and hugged him tightly, kissing him on the top of his head.
“It’s all of our faults. We have been too strict with you children and this behaviour was bound to happen eventually. If anything, it’s our fault.” You said calmly, glancing at Anakin to see him nodding in agreement.
“Now, let’s go find your sister.”
+++
“Umm. . .are you sure this is safe, Brigade?” Leia asked, gulping heavily when Brigade split up from Han Solo and was leading Leia away from the rest of the crowd to an alley-way close by.
“Yup! Totally safe. As long as you're here with me.” Brigade said carelessly.
Leia nodded and tried to take her friend’s advice to heart, but through the force, she could sense something terrible was about to happen.
“Well, well, well. Look-y here! The Twi-Lek actually did it!” Leia heard a voice from behind her and she spun quickly on her heels and noticed there was two masked people in front of her. A man and a woman.
“What are they talking about?” Leia asked cautiously.
Brigade slowly faced Leia with an emotionless expression.
“You should’ve stayed home, Leia. Coming out here by yourself was foolish.”
“What do you mean? What are you on about, Brigade?”
“When I first found out how high the bounty was for you and your brother, I knew I had to get close to you. I’m sorry if it hurts, but my family needed the money.”
Leia felt hot tears fall down her cheek at the news. Her childhood friend had been using her this whole time?
“What the Kriff, Brigade. You traitor. I thought we were friends!” She sobbed.
Brigade continued to stand completely still without showing a pang of regret.
“So sad, but we have no time for theatrics! The big man wants the job to be done A-S-A-P. We have a ship to catch.” The woman said carelessly, as she dug into a satchel that was around her shoulders and pulled out a big sack of credits.
“A thousand credits, just as we promised you.” The man said.
Brigade caught the bag and opened it and looked over her newly-earned loot.
“Thank you, Leia. You just saved my father from a certain death.” Brigade said with a small smile on her face.
Leia felt strong arms grab her by the shoulders and she felt herself get yanked to the ground.
“I got you Leia!” She sat up and noticed Han had rushed into the alley and was now fighting for his life against the two masked people.
“Run! Get out of here!” He yelled at her. Leia quickly scrambled to her feet and rushed out of the alley, searching for the direction home.
But, once again, she felt someone grab onto her, making her let out a bloody sounding scream.
“Leia, it’s okay!”
Leia recognised the voice of her father and latched onto him tightly.
“Dad! I am so glad I found you! You and mom were right! Everything here is dangerous, please take me home!”
“Leia, what happened?” you asked with a calm voice bending over slightly to reach her eye level.
“Alley-way, and Brigade selling me or something and- O.M.G! Han is there all by himself! He needs help!” Leia exclaimed with complete terror and worry laced in her voice. She pointed at the direction she came from and her father nodded and began to rush that way.
When he was out of sight, Leia looked back up at you and could see that you were smiling and looked the complete opposite of how she expected.
“Why are you smiling? I thought you’d be so mad at me.”
“Oh, I am mad at you, Leia.” Your eye twitched in annoyance. “But I am so thankful that you are alright and nothing happened to you.”
Leia sniffled some more and buried her face into your warm body.
“I’m sorry, mum.” Leia cried.
“Shh. . .let’s talk about this when we get home.”
+++
“So, you actually were going to take me and Luke to the event?” Leia asked with complete disbelief in her eyes.
You nodded and looked over at your husband who still was nursing a bruise he had gotten from the fight on his left cheek.
“Yes, your father and I have decided that we can’t make you guys live in solitude for all of your childhood, so we agreed to take you out into the city some more. However, because of your behaviour, you should expect to not be going anywhere for a week.”
Leia nodded in understanding, but she couldn’t help but smile.
“You’ve actually decided that mum?” She asked.
You chuckled and raised your arms to invite your two children into a hug. They both giggled and practically jumped into your arms, making you fall back a bit.
“I love you mom!” They both said at the same time.
“Hey! How about me? I saved your friend and got your ‘attempt captors’ put into custody!” Anakin said with a fake frown on his face.
“Yeah, thank you father.” Leia said with a genuine smile plastered across her face. Anakin also smiled and joined the group hug.
The Skywalker family was happy and safe once again.

But she was a Jedi
A/N: I just want to take a moment to say I meant for this to have a fluffy end but then something just sorta happened and it turned into pure angst. Oops. Also been like three years since I’ve written fanfiction for any fandom sorry sorry if this doesn’t make much sense. Once again, oops.
Pairing: Anakin Skywalker X Jedi! Reader
Word Count: 1.7K
Warnings: It’s real angsty
Summary: Anakin has just returned from a mission and has something to tell (Y/N). It doesn’t go quite as planned.
Tumblr media
(Y/N) was a Jedi, and a damn good one at that. She was padawan but she didn’t let that stop her from playing her part in keeping the galaxy safe. She took every part of the oath she had made to heart and held to the codes like they were the only thing keeping her alive, but there were times she swore the force must be testing her in the form of fellow padawan Anakin Skywalker. They had been friends as children and as he grew so did their bond. Which was why (Y/N) found herself standing out on a deserted balcony trying not to fall apart.
Anakin was returning from a rather long assignment and (Y/N) was determined to meet him at the hanger. Her master hadn’t been pleased when she told him that she would be unable to meditate with him tonight but that was a problem she would solve in the morning. For now, her only concern was when Anakin and Obi-wan’s ship would land. She stood near the exit of the hanger the open doors letting the cool night air in. She shivered and pulled her cloak tighter around her, but it didn’t do much to stop the small shivers running down her body. As much as she wanted to find a warmer place to wait, she had promised Anakin she would be there to greet him. Before he had left, he had mentioned that there was something he wanted to tell her, and she was dying to know what it could possibly be. After nearly an hour of waiting a ship came into view. It had to be his, she couldn’t imagine anyone visiting the Temple this late.
When the ship landed in the hanger, she didn’t bother to stop the smile that formed on her lips. He was home. She approached the ship and greeted Anakin as we walked out, “I hope you know you’re late. I’ve been waiting here for ages and I’m fairly certain I’ve caught a cold.”
“Not even a hello (Y/N/N)? I don’t actually recall telling you when we’d be back. You can’t be late if you never agreed to a time,” replied Anakin with a smirk. He pulled (Y/N) into a warm embrace that lasted just a bit too long to be purely platonic, “And if you do get sick, we’ll have an excuse to spend more time together while I nurse you back to health.”
(Y/N) pulled herself out of his hug and rolled her eyes at him, her hands coming to rest on his biceps. He really could be an idiot sometimes, but an incredibly wonderful one. She looked up at Anakin ready with some witty remark when she noticed his master watching their interaction from a few feet away. He noticed her at once. “Please, don’t stop on my account. Pretend I’m not here, Anakin seems to ignore me enough that I might as well not be,” stated the slightly grumpy Jedi knight. The assignment must not have gone well.
(Y/N)’s hands dropped to her side, “Master Kenobi, would you mind if I borrowed you padawan for a few minutes. There’s just something I need to discuss with him, and I’d rather not wait until morning.”
That had been (Y/N)'s first mistake. She should have just said goodnight after greeting him. She should have waited for him to approach her instead of pushing him. She blamed herself for letting herself for running headfirst into such a vulnerable position.
Anakin turned to his master with a small and only slightly pleading smile. “Be my guest,” stated Obi-wan as he ran a hand through his hair, “Anakin, if you need me, I’ll be in bed.” With that, he walked off leaving the pair alone.
“You have something you need to tell me?” asked Anakin, rather confused.
“No, but you have something to tell me and I don’t know if I can wait any longer to hear it,” (Y/N) replied with a smile.
Anakin strode out of the hanger, “are you coming?”
“Where are you going?”
“Just follow me.”
And so (Y/N) did. She let him lead her through the winding yet familiar halls of the Jedi Temple until they stopped at one of the many large windows that overlooked the city below. Even late at night, there were always various Jedi moving through the halls, but Anakin had led them to a spot where they could be alone.
“Don’t tell me that the big thing you had to tell me is that this is your favourite window?” said (Y/N) with a slight shake of her head. The movement caused a strand of her (H/C) hair to fall in front of her eyes.
“No,” replied Anakin. One of his hands gently brushed the hair from her face and moved to rest on her cheek. His expression was calm and seemed to be filled with love, but surely (Y/N) was only imagining that. His gaze shifted from the night sky to her meet hers, “But the way you glow in the moonlight is my favourite, and the way city lights reflect off your eyes is my favourite.”
“Anakin…” his name left her lips as a whisper. A light blush dusted both of their cheeks, but it was too dark for either to notice.
The events of the evening replayed in (Y/N)’s mind and she realized she should have turned and ran. She should have stopped him before he had said anything else. She should have done something to stop what happened next. But she hadn’t, and she hated herself for it. All of the pain she felt could have been avoided if she hadn’t so desperately wanted to hear the words that left his mouth next.
“I can’t keep this from you any longer. Each day I hide my feelings from you I find myself in more pain. I’m constantly distracted by thoughts of you and your beauty. I love you (Y/N) and I can no longer bear to keep these feelings to myself.” Anakin’s thumb gently caressed (Y/N)’s cheek and his free hand settled on her waist. This was a moment that they both wished could last forever. The brewing war was forgotten. But ever the realist, (Y/N) was pulled back into the real world.
This was wrong.
Her hand gently took Anakin’s, moving it from its position on her cheek. While Anakin’s confession had made her happier than she could ever imagine her expression was sad, “We can’t Anakin. You know the codes as well as I do. This- this is wrong.”
His gaze was intense as he attempted to reason with her, “does this feel wrong? Greed, anger, all the other emotions we are warned of feel wrong, but does this? Does love feel wrong to you? How could something as wonderful as love be wrong?”
She wanted to give into him, to confess to him all of the love she felt form him. She wanted to give in to the storm of emotions raging within her and forget the codes. He was standing so close she’d only have to shift forward to kiss him and it was distracting. She had been denying her own feeling for so long and had planned to continue ignoring as long as possible, but as Anakin spoke her walls crumbled and her control wavered. This scared her more than any creature she had ever faced. She was a Jedi and Jedi was always in control of their emotions. But that control was slipping in a way she had never experienced before, “What about the council? If they find out, we’ll be removed from the order. We couldn’t hide it from them forever. It would never work.”
“They won’t find out and if they do, we’ll face whatever the punishment is together. But no matter what they did we would still be together in the end and that’s all that matters to me. You are more important to me than any rule that may try to keep us apart,” he said as he took both her hands in his. His eyes seemed to be pleading with her, sharing feelings his words ever could.
(Y/N) glanced down at her feet and then back to his blue eyes. She wanted to give in, she needed too. The more he spoke the more pointless her internal battle became. The thought of relinquishing control and diving into what she felt for her was becoming less terrifying. She could just give in, but the fear struck again. If she could give in to this what else would she be willing to surrender too? Thoughts of the dark side crossed her mind. Opening herself up to its influence was against everything she had ever been taught and all she stood for. She was a Jedi and she couldn’t let herself give in.
She had to leave before he broke her down completely. As much as she wanted to turn and run, she couldn’t. Anakin was one of her oldest friends and she believed he at least deserved to know how she felt before she disappeared from his life, for both of their sakes. “Anakin… I love you too. I have since we were children, but it can’t be. As much as I yearn to be with you my place in the universe is not by your side. As Jedi we cannot just belong to one, we are here to help all. I love you and I'm positive I will continue to love you until the day I stop breathing but it just can’t be,” said (Y/N) quietly. She leaned up onto her toes and gave Anakin a gentle kiss on his cheek. “Good night, Anakin.”
With that (Y/N) turned and left, unable and unwilling to look at Anakin after breaking his heart and after breaking her own. She held herself together long enough to get out of sight and then she let herself cry.
(Y/N) used the sleeve of her robe to wipe the last of the tears from her face. She was a Jedi and a damn good one at that. She didn’t have room in her life for love or heartbreak. She closed her eyes and breathed deeply. She found some peace in meditation and when she opened her eyes the sun had begun to rise. The world felt lonelier but (Y/N) was a Jedi and the life of a Jedi is a lonely one.

Note
do you have any ObiWan recs? Because I l've read ReEntry and all of akathecentimetre's but I'm at a loss for other good prequel based ones
Oh, dear anon, you don’t know what kind of paralysis this gave me for a good solid minute, because I HAVE SO VERY MANY, HOW CAN I POSSIBLY NOT GIVE YOU LITERALLY 200 RECS?  There are so so many good prequels writers out there LET ME YELL AT YOU ABOUT SOME QUALITY FIC.✦Fire and Ice by Yesac is the fic that really got me into prequels fic and is an incredible story about the duel on Mustafar going differently, where Anakin wins and basically takes Obi-Wan and Padme hostage, while he’s this unstable font of power, who actually has to learn some really hard lessons before he can really start to earn his way back to the side of good.  It has some of the best Obi-Wan characterization in any fic I’ve read, the balance of his care for Anakin versus staying true to his morals and the sheer solidity of who he is is *kisses fingers* perfection.✦ starbird by imaginarykat is one of the best characterizations for Obi-Wan I’ve ever read.  wicked thing tends to be more popular (and is also wonderful) but for my money, starbird is the one that really helped me get Obi-Wan as a character, in addition to having some of the most sharply hilarious moments ever.  You really feel the weight of Obi-Wan’s presence and character in this one.✦ Equinox by lilyconrad is gorgeous all the way around!  Even if Sith!Obi-Wan isn’t usually your thing, I would gently encourage giving this one a shot anyway, because it’s not really about Obi-Wan falling into darkness, it’s about Obi-Wan, but it’s not actually Obi-Wan himself, and it’s complicated, but it gets at the heart of the character, while still showing how much of the light he is.  It’s a deliciously lush gothic horror story + his relationship with Anakin that explores who they both are and has some truly stellar smut.  I love all of Lily’s stuff, she writes a lot of Obi-Wan’s character, so you can pick up anything by her!✦ Cataclasm by dendral is amazing as well, it’s a story where Obi-Wan is whammied with some extra Force visions and so he has to walk away from everything he knows to go do some Force-related shit, but he remains so very much himself (and such a Jedi, in such a beautifully told way) and there’s worldbuilding and plot and it’s just gorgeous. someday when i’m gone away we’ll be all okay is also stellar and made me cry the kind of tears where my throat hurt from the lump in it and yet it’s perfect for the characters.  (It’s deathfic, but worth it, imo!)✦ I really love panharmonium’s fics as well, who hasn’t written much, but always has such clear affection for the world and the characters!  The Mathematics of Repair is probably my favorite, it’s sparkling and wonderful just-post-TPM early days of Obi-Wan & Anakin’s relationship!✦ The Living Force; Parables for Padawans by gloriousclio is this really stunning fairy tale-like exploration of Obi-Wan and the Jedi, not just feelings but beautiful wordcraft, too.✦ Smitty has written three STELLAR fics about Obi-Wan and Anakin’s early days and what’s amazing to me is that they were written in NINETEEN-NINETY-NINE and yet utterly NAILED their dynamic! The House That Obi-Wan Built + Sofa, So Good + House of Cards.  The hilariously written snark + underlying care is spot on to their dynamic.✦ In all the World by Ammar is an amazing combination of the early days of Obi-Wan and Anakin’s relationship, worldbuilding, AND case fic!  I remember thinking that this could have been a novel published by Star Wars itself and I would have still been impressed at all the things it absolutely nailed right and built up!✦ Supreme Chancellor Kenobi by stonefreeak is another amazing series where it’s not just about Obi-Wan, but he’s a central figure in it!  And even when she writes other characters she does an incredible job with them, like, the Quinlan piece is one of the best I’ve ever read for him!  Basically it’s exactly what it sounds like–Obi-Wan finds himself suddenly elected to the position of Supreme Chancellor, which means everyone now has breathing room to actually FIX THINGS since Palpatine can’t make them worse, but also it’s HILARIOUS because he kind of really hates it, no matter how good he is at it!✦ The Dark Path Lit by Sun and Stars by A_Delicate_Fury is a gorgeous time travel fic that does an amazing job with his character.  There are small moments with Luke that just floored me with how many feelings they gave me, but also the fic just nails everything it wants to do.  Plot!  Characterization!  Keeping me on the edge of my seat!  Action scenes!✦ Soldier, Poet, King by Glare is a fave because I’m weak for Soft Sith stuff in fandom, especially when there’s such a charm to the writing of his and Anakin’s relationship.  I still remember these great scenes of Anakin’s mental landscape form and how Obi-Wan interacted with him, that sense of all that power and Obi-Wan’s hand metaphorically on the back of his neck, their dynamic is so good.  Plus plot!  \:D/✦ I love everything by Ripki, but you can start with The Atlas of Our Ruin, which is a time-travel fic that forces Obi-Wan and Anakin to really tear into all the difficult stuff from their pasts and spill everything out everywhere, in an attempt to lance the wounds.  It’s a gorgeous look at both their characters and the relationship between them, it’s SO TASTY to read and ouchy-but-cathartic in the best way.✦ The Journey of the Lights by Pandora151 is more time travel fic (this fandom is really good at them) that just consumed me while I was reading it, where Qui-Gon is dumped forward into the future and it winds up forcing some things to come to a head early, and there’s a lot of Obi-Wan having to juggle a lot of different relationships and difficulties, and it’s SO GOOD.✦ Remedial Jedi Theology by MarbleGlove is the kind of Legends-based (instead of Canon-based) fic that I love to see, because it’s so THOUGHTFUL about the Jedi and their philosophy/theology, as well as some really stellar Obi-Wan characterization.  He’s going through A Lot in this fic, but he faces all of it and himself and his growing understanding of everything (because we never stop growing and understanding) with such cleverness and skill.  There’s some quality Mace moments in the fic as well and some great Anakin stuff, but it’s at its heart an Obi-Wan fic and it was a joy to read.✦ Seed by belldreams is one of my favorites for how much heavy lifting it does with Obi-Wan and balancing his feelings with being a Jedi.  There’s such good, thoughtful characterization here, where he really has to look at himself and he really thinks things through, there’s such a solidity to his character here that is SPOT ON.  Also, FUCK OR DIE FIC, we were blessed by this one.  (Upfall also has some really quality Obi-Wan thoughts, too!)✦ In All But Name by Mirror and Image is one I read early on in fandom, so I can’t speak to how well it would hold up for me re: the relationship with the Jedi (I suspect not as well as my fond memories would suggest) but that’s a personal quibble and the point is that it’s really good Obi-Wan focus and it’s all about him beginning to train Anakin on Naboo instead of going to the Jedi Temple, there’s a whole lot of focus on children’s education, because that’s what the authors teach as well, so this one totally engrossed me.  I remember Coalesced Matter was a good Dooku & Obi-Wan & Anakin fic, too!✦ In fairness, I haven’t read Reprise by Elfpen yet (I’m hoarding it) but I’ve enjoyed the other fic I’ve read from this author, so I feel confidence giving this a rec.  Plus, it’s all my favorite things, like TIME TRAVELING OBI-WAN.  :D✦ The Exchange by MissLearn is another one I loved, where it’s centered on the Obi-Wan & Anakin relationship, as they exchange places in time and that forces a lot of things to come out, but it gives me SUCH FEELINGS and the characters around them were written wonderfully and UGH SO GOOD.✦ Shadows of the Future bystormqueen873 is one I haven’t read since the very early days of my reading, so I can’t say how it would hold up, but I remember being utterly IN LOVE with this story and how much it fixed.  One of the things that it really did well was building up to the big reveal of Obi-Wan’s time traveling, that the fic really knew how to ratchet up to that moment so that, when it finally happened, I had SO MANY FEELINGS about it.  Plus, lots and lots of warm-hearted, fluffy slice-of-life moments as everything gets fixed!✦ I like all of anecdotalist’s fics, but starting with Clarity is probably best, it’s a nice long fic that fixes a lot of what goes wrong during ROTS and just utterly engrossed me.  Plot!  Action scenes!  Anakin being a disaster, but listening to people who actually want to help him!  Though, The Fallout of Anakin Skywalker’s Knighting will always have a special place in my heart for making me cry over feelings about Obi-Wan.✦ Tano and Kenobi by Fireflyfish is time traveling Ahsoka this time, who becomes Obi-Wan’s Master and everything starts slowly shifting towards the right (or sometimes just straight up blowing over to the right) and it’s a DELIGHT to see their dynamic, to see Ahsoka really growing into the role of being a Master, to see Obi-Wan’s relationship with her grow.✦ The Hand Dealt by not paranoid enough is one I read awhile back, but it’s a Canon Divergent fic, where things go a little differently on Tatooine and it’s sort of a mix between a slow burn and just being about the early days of his relationship with Anakin, and I remember it being REALLY GOOD.✦ I like everything of Valairy Scot’s that I’ve read, she’s another Legends writer that really is a lot of fun, and I’d say start with A Good Place To Die.  It’s pretty much an entire novel of Obi-Wan whump + recovery, which it REALLY embraces and is super satisfying if you’re into that sort of thing!  Plus, man, Anakin is SPOT ON in this fic, for how deeply he cares, how brilliant he is, but also what a disaster he is when he can’t get out of his own head.  I also remember really liking Our Honored Dead.✦ I also like wreckageofstars’ stuff as well!  Echoes of Mortis is an ensemble piece, but it’s satisfying for his character and has great plot and action and things diverging from canon in a fascinating way!  Also a HILARIOUSLY GREAT read is Obi-Wan and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad (Life) Day which is just as funny as promised.I AM MISSING SO MANY GOOD OBI-WAN FICS, BUT THIS WILL GET YOU STARTED.  I LOVE OBI-WAN KENOBI AND I LOVE THIS FANDOM FOR PROVIDING ME WITH GOOD STUFF.

So, my sister wanted to watch ANH, and I’m a noble and selfless big sister (:P) and agreed. It’s been ... at least a year?
Impressions this time:
- ANH is really a magnificent film, just in terms of how everything comes together and how completely balanced the different elements are. It is what it is—a fancy Western-meets-Kurosawa fairy-tale space opera—and instead of trying to ~transcend~ its origins, it embraces them and goes for executing them at peak quality. Overwhelmingly it succeeds. I think that’s really its strength among the SW movies: it’s not the most ambitious, it’s not the most creative, it’s not the most inspiring, but it is the most cleanly, evenly executed, the one that succeeds most completely and unambiguously at the kind of thing it is.
- I definitely think the TFA=ANH thing is overblown. They’re very different movies with very different characters. The only exceptions are 1) the cantina and 2) the trench run. Speaking of which, the cantina scene remains spectacular. (And the trench run! My God.)
- Rogue One fits in REALLY WELL, while also feeling like an even more profoundly dissimilar film. But it really felt like it picked up right where RO left off. Like a lot of people, I was cackling at Leia’s sheer gall in her “???? HOW DARE” at Vader. Unfortunately, the near-seamlessness had me completely convinced that RO just happened and so I was like “wow, okay, Vader just took off after Leia and Jyn and Cassian just died WAIT WAIT ABORT MISSION DIDN’T HAPPEN BYYYYE”
- I thought the criticisms of RO!Tarkin were overblown (tbh I tended to think that a lot of them tended to forget how uncanny valley Tarkin is to begin with), and that’s also only more cemented. He seemed absolutely like the same person. I also don’t think I noticed before how ... bored? he seems with a lot of it. Like, Vader thinks the Death Star is shit but is gung-ho about Doing Empire Things and Victory!!! while Tarkin tends to be more “eh.” Gets a kick out of puppy-kicking Tuesday, though.
- I know it’s been litigated to hell and back, but the SE additions are in nearly all cases very jarring. (OTOH, going back and updating the terrible 70s computer graphics would have been a very feasible choice!) Similarly, I know it’s stale and everything, but the suggested backstory does seem very different from what we get in the prequels; I kept finding myself mentally working to make it fit.
- If it’s possible, I feel even more strongly than before about how wrongwrongwrong the soft, fluffy, sunshiny!Luke* thing is. Despite his streak of fatalism, he’s also almost invariably confident—sometimes to the point of braggadocio, but in most cases in fact correct. His goals are largely heroic, but he is far and away the most purely pragmatic of the main trio. He’s incredibly naive, but also resourceful; almost all the actual ideas for what to do come from him, and in most cases in a single moment. When Han snaps that “he’s the brains,” I don’t think he’s actually being sarcastic (though obviously he’s being annoyed). Luke is the idea guy, Han is the shooting things guy (which both find frustrating on occasion). Luke combines a streak of earnest gentleness with very frequent abrasiveness. He’s very much Leia’s brother.
(...on that level.)
- Han is incredibly brash and reckless! Sometimes hilariously so. I continue to love the scene where he runs from stormtroopers only to run into WAY MORE stormtroopers and just runs away screaming. He’s interesting because he’s not at all a comic relief character, but he does actually have a lot of it. I think it contributes to his lovability.
- Threepio and Artoo’s relationship remains the cutest, omg. And how did I forget Artoo’s built-in fire extinguisher??
- HELLO WALL-E
- LEIA LEIA LEIA LEIA
- There’s a gifset about how Leia is the only person unafraid of Vader, and I actually disagree. She quite plainly is afraid of him, IMO, quite naturally in the torture scene and then when she backs into him to get away from Tarkin. She just doesn’t let it govern her will or conduct even a little bit. <3
- I remain convinced that all probability is that Vader argued against the destruction of Alderaan, though not for any heroic reasons. I also remain creeped-out by Tarkin’s behaviour towards Leia accompanied by his genuine shock that she would lie to him. Vader is just “duh????”
- I’ve also noticed it before, but it never ceases to amuse me: when Luke and Leia scream at Han about shooting in the compactor, they sound exactly the same.
- Luke is the one who thinks to shoot out the cameras in the detention center.
- Obi-Wan’s lightsaber is the proper shade of blue, but Luke’s/Anakin’s has been left at greenish for some reason.
- ROBOT IS A CANON WORD
- I also think criticisms of the Obi-Wan/Vader duel are overblown. It’s a very different style, which seems odd, but ... looks like pretty normal fencing to me? A bit slower than Vader vs Luke in ESB, but that’s what you’d expect. I definitely got the feeling that Vader was drawing it out for maximum enjoyment, lol, but could have ended it at any moment.
- I love Threepio, but I find Chewie super irritating, sorry.
- Leia and Luke are so pretty!!!!
- Han’s snark about “female advice” remains as “well, fuck you, Han” as ever. I’m also not a huge fan of him going on about how he doesn’t care about the revolution or about her, considering that he knows perfectly well that she just saw her planet wiped out. How Jyn trying to survive is worse than this is just ?????
- Nevertheless, ANH Han is by and large my favourite Han. He’s genuinely charming, while his pseudo-devil-may-care is just ... aww, here’s your YOU TRIED star. Setting the implied incest aside, the back-and-forth with Luke about Leia is super cute. I also love the “no reward is worth this,” haha, along with “either I’m going to kill her or I’m starting to like her.”
- If I didn’t know better, I would definitely have thought Harrison and Carrie’s affair was during ESB, not ANH. The UST seems much less intense here (definitely present, but in a more lowkey, adorkable sort of way).
- Luke and Leia both seem to feel this irrational, near-immediate bond. They tend to pair off and Leia flips out when he’s pulled underwater as much as Luke did when he realized she was scheduled for execution. Luke tends to back her when she’s pissed at Han or ignore it altogether. I also think it’s kind of ... sweet isn’t the word, exactly, but when Luke gives Leia the blaster to cover him while he gets his swinging cord out, he doesn’t seem to have the slightest doubt about her capabilities. And she doesn’t seem to doubt that he’ll be able to carry her with one arm across the BOTTOMLESS PIT OF DOOM.
- That’s also there in the celebration scene; with Han there’s the UST with his wink + her I’M PUTTING ON MY PRINCESS FACE NOW, while with Luke he grins at her and she grins back, like they’re kids together. (Also, I think, a reason the twin retcon—while certainly awkward at points—works more than not. It's much more about this easy natural camaraderie they have than anything else. They’re bros before they were bros!)
- Leia actually isn’t certain if the plans will show a weakness or not, which suggests 1) she wasn’t told Jyn’s full testimony, or 2) she’s not at all sure about it either.
- People generally seem to treat the Imperial Senate as a legit concern—not just Leia, but many of the Imperial officers, and Vader himself takes care to create a smokescreen to keep them from realizing what happened to Leia. The OT is not much for politics, but I suspect the abrupt dissolution of the Senate might have contributed to the expanded Rebellion of ESB and ROTJ.
- Even here, though, the Rebellion does seem very well-funded, and Han’s reward appears to be no problem at all. Also, everyone rides around on little carts.
- Luke totally knew Obi-Wan already and I am personally very doubtful that it took just a few hours or a day to get to Alderaan. Think: Leia supposedly caves about the Dantooine base right before Alderaan’s destruction (i.e., after Han&Co go into hyperspace). The Empire sends a contingent to Dantooine from Alderaan, who find and search the abandoned base, and send a report back. I definitely don’t think that’s something that in its entirety would be handled in a day.
(I always get a sense with the OT—and RO—that we’re seeing snapshots of a wider story, with plenty going on in the empty spaces that’s just not critical, or which can be inferred from what we do see. Luke’s bit with the remote is clearly not his only interaction with Obi-Wan on the trip, say; it’s just a representative bit we see that coincides with the destruction of Alderaan. I think it’s part of the reason it’s compelling in a very fannish way, even though I have very very few issues with the series as-is; normally I get really fannish about things that are super compelling but have a lot of issues I feel the need to address. SW, though, manages to provide those spaces where I want to fill in the blanks, but as a form of storytelling rather than faultlines.)
- Aww, it’s for little children! also have you noticed that one of the charred skeletons at the homestead is contorted weirdly
- I love Carrie’s low voice
- the development of Artoo and Threepio’s relationship is not something I’ve really noticed before, but I was genuinely touched this time? They’re friends, clearly, but they start out at this snappish, intolerant place and Threepio gets increasingly more and more concerned and less selfish. He manages to look devastated when Luke shouts that Artoo is down and then when he offers his own gears and circuits for Artoo, it’s just... awwwww. (Also when they ask Luke if he wants a less beat-up droid and he’s NO WE’VE BONDED. Luke <3 <3)
- Alec Guinness, whatever his private feelings, does a really great job with Obi-Wan as this shrewd, tricky mentor with a deep sense of ambivalence. I think it’s part of the reason the retcon works so well; his behaviour seems entirely credible as someone who’s lying. I also think his :| at Han is pretty hilarious? He’s just seriously?? so much of the time.
- The whole deal with the parsecs was obviously meant to be stupid bragging from Han. There’s no need for an explanation; Obi-Wan and Luke’s faces are both like “...sure, bro.”
- Even the damn summary of the title crawl on the back was like T_T
The Jedi Knights have been exterminated and the Empire rules the galaxy with an iron fist. A small group of Rebels have dared to fight back by stealing the secret plans to the Empire’s mightiest weapon, the Death Star battle station. The Emperor’s most trusted servant, Darth Vader, must find the plans and locate the hidden Rebel base. [etc]
*sob*
But, just incidentally, there is never the slightest indication given that the team of spies didn’t actually make it out of their mission or that there’s any particular tragedy around the first!!!! victory!!!!!!! They’re never explicitly pointed out, but there also isn’t any occasion for doing so; we don’t see anyone outside the purely military arm. No senators beyond Leia (who’s only there to bring the plans, and had originally intended to go to Alderaan anyway), no Mon Mothma, no operatives of any kind beyond soldiers, pilots, and commanders. It looks like they evacuated everyone else, so even if the Scarif mission had gone precisely according to plan and like 75% of them made it out, there’s no reason for them to show up in ANH anyway. But yeah, basically all we know is that the team that recovered the plans was a small and brave one affiliated with the Rebellion.
*feel free not to remind me that the sun is powerful and dangerous. this is a metaphor
