In honor of Pokemon Day and the announcement of the game I never thought they'd make (but I've wanted since Arceus was announced) I started cooking up corresponding ocs :)
Tumblr media
Silivan here is a journalist and rookie detective who's soft-spoken and intelligent, but is socially inept and prone to apologizing. What an idiot! He's born and raised in Lumiose and hasn't really gone outside that place (haha. haha get it. cuz the game is only set in Lumiose-) but he likes it fine enough. His boss at the Lumiose Gazette could stand to be a bit nicer to him, but I think he's hard on him to show he cares.
His team consists of:
Scotty ( ♂ ), an air-headed Espurr who's attempts at being helpful only seem to make things more complicated for Silvian. He still loves him though.
Lumine ( ♀ ), a shiny Kirlia who is very protective of Silvian. She's not quite aware of how small she is in comparison to perceived threats but she's trying her best!
____
Items On Hand:
Clothing Trunk (unused item in XY)
Mega Charm (charm attached to a pocketwatch used for Mega Evolving)
Notepad + Pen (for journalist stuff)

My brain is so hardwired to be argumentative about shit that does matter but not so much that I have to spend all my time thinking about it. I will go to sleep arguing at a post I saw that I didn't like and when I wake up and my brain comes back online I am still arguing about it. Like it's truly dire and touching grass is not enough I need to be on shrooms or something. But I'll probably get into it with my hallucinations too

How To Write ASPD / Psychopathy
half educational, half ramble. dedicated to the creepypasta fandom.
(check out my how-to-write bipolar + ticci toby here)
What is ASPD?
Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) is characterized by a disregard for others rights and feelings. It's a personality disorder, which means the mindsets and behaviours associated with this condition are deeply ingrained and maladaptive.
The current DSM-5 diagnostic criteria states that to be diagnosed with ASPD, a patient needs to have a long-term (occurring since at least age 15), consistent, and persistent history of three or more of the following:
failure to conform to social norms; repeatedly breaking rules/laws that may be grounds for arrest
deceitfulness; lying, tricking others for personal gain
impulsivity or a failure to plan ahead
irritability and aggression; fighting, hostility, outbursts
reckless disregard for the safety of self or others
irresponsibility; repeated failure to comply to work or financial obligations
lack of remorse; being indifferent to or rationalizing having mistreated or hurt others
ASPD, by definition, can only be diagnosed in people who are 18+. Minors cannot have ASPD due to treatment and intervention reasons. A minor who exhibits traits of ASPD will be diagnosed with Conduct Disorder.
At it's core, though it may seem like people with ASPD are just hostile and insensitive and rude, is a defense mechanism formed in childhood, typically in response to an abusive environment. Self-preservation and a "dog eat dog world" mindset are very common in those with ASPD. Everything is about doing what it takes to retain social dominance, control, and ultimately safety. Boredom and risk-taking is also very common in people with ASPD, and many people with this condition have never had proper, healthy influences in childhood to teach them proper manners, social norms, morals, or how to regulate their emotions and aggression.
It is a chronic condition that affects about 1-3% of the population. Its very prevalent in the prison population as well. ASPD not only causes a person to potentially cause harm to others, but is a condition that very negatively impacts the patients themselves.
(Note: The term "sociopathy" is typically used to refer to an extreme presentation of ASPD. "Psychopathy" may sometimes be seem as a very very extreme presentation of ASPD)
What is Psychopathy?
Psychopathy refers to a set of traits/issues that might be seen in patients. It is NOT a diagnosis. If psychopathic traits cause dysfunctional behaviour in an individual, they will most likely be diagnosed with ASPD.
Psychopathy is now most commonly used in research settings to use it as a term that describes certain patterns and behaviours. It is something professionals study, not diagnose.
The traits related to psychopathy are:
manipulative behaviour; superficial charm, persistent lying, deceiving others
grandiose sense of self
lack of remorse or guilt; lack of empathy, callousness, shallow emotional expressions
reckless lifestyle; need for stimulation, parasitic (constantly takes from others), lack of realistic long-term goals, impulsivity
antisocial behaviour; poor behavioural control, early behavioural problems, trouble with the law in youth
Not all psychopathic people fit the criteria for ASPD, not all are disordered by their traits, and not all people with ASPD are considered psychopathic. But there is a very big overlap.
Psychopathy is typically only recognized in a forensic or research setting. It is often wrongfully used in the media to describe people who are serial killers, abusive, or used to dehumanize others.
Personally, I believe that media and creators need to move away from the terms psychopath/sociopath. They have far too much negative connotation that only exists to demonize people who suffer with unconventional traits. If you want to write psychopathy correctly, do your research on what it looks like in its presentation, and just drop the label.
What are some harmful tropes with ASPD/Psychopathy in media?
ASPD and Psychopathy have been tossed around in many different settings as ways to cheaply create an evil villain, or a cold calculated monster, or a reckless criminal. There has been only one instance in my lifetime of watching hundreds of movies and shows that I have seen an accurate, humanizing portrayal of ASPD. (That show is House MD by the way, I highly recommend if you want to see good representation).
So what are some of the tropes to acknowledge and avoid?
1. Psychopathic serial killer
Have you seen American Psycho? Great movie. Don't do that. While the character Patrick Bateman is commonly associated with the terms "narcissist" and "psychopath", he also is a satirical character who is a very dramatized and exaggerated presentation of some psychopathic traits.
I will be honest. A lot of real-life serial killers do suffer from various mental health conditions, but correlation is not causation. In the Creepypasta fandom we are surrounded by different characters who are almost all serial killers, and people like to make things easy and just throw the label of "psychopath" onto them and call it realistic. This is very cheap, and very harmful.
If you want to write a psychopathic serial killer character, then acknowledge how harmful, fear-mongering, and dehumanizing this trope is towards people who actually suffer from these traits.
2. ASPD synonymous with abusive behaviour
ASPD is a disorder that does cause people to do and say things that will harm others in some way. Cluster B personality disorders are commonly seen as 'social disorders', as in they cause dis-order in interpersonal relationships, and in response to society. Borderline personality disorder (BPD) for example may cause somebody to threaten harm to themselves in response to percieved abandonment, or to have intense fights due to emotional dysregulation.
ASPD in particular may cause someone to be insensitive towards others problems, lack morality, be aggressive or hostile, put others down, or get into reckless situations. This is why they are disorders. Because they cause significant and serious problems in the persons life.
It is not pretty, and it's not fair, and yes, people with disorders may cause harm to others due to behaviours associated with their condition. But there is a difference between causing harm, and abusing another person.
Lying to someone is not inherently abusive. Being reckless is not inherently abusive. Being an insensitive asshole is not inherently abusive. To not understand the nuance and the complexity of these situations is to completely demonize and stigmatize a serious mental health condition. You don't call people with BPD abusive for their actions inherently, because you acknowledge they are hurting and only doing what they know to cope with this hurt. Of course it's unhealthy. That's what a disorder is. That does not make someone abusive by default. Anyone with any condition, even neurotypical people can be abusive.
3. Cold, emotionless robot
People with ASPD can and do feel emotion. People with psychopathic traits can and do feel emotion. They get sad, disappointed, disgusted, happy, excited, jealous, hurt, angry. There is nothing in the ASPD criteria that states anything about emotional presentation or experience.
In psychopathy, it is mentioned that there may be a shallow emotional expression. This may also be present in ASPD. This means that while a person will feel emotions, it is either beat down or brushed off, or completely repressed. The emotional repression may come from childhood abuse where they were punished for expressing emotions, or expressing emotions had caused them harm.
Lacking emotions/emotional expression is instead highly linked to Schizoid Personality Disorder, and is apart of the criteria for said disorder.
Media protraying people with ASPD/psychopathy as cold, emotionless, calculating robots is another trope used to dehumanize people with mental health issues. It's used to make people with ASPD seem evil or not having feelings that could be hurt. In reality, nearly everything a person with ASPD does, is their dysfunctional way of protecting themselves from being hurt.
People with ASPD may lack the emotional capacity for things such as empathy and remorse, though. Its common that they are unable to care for, or feel upset for others suffering. They may also be unable to feel guilt. This criteria is seen in about 51% of people with ASPD and is associated with more extreme presentations.
Do you headcanon anyone to have ASPD?
Yes, but I don't like to use the label on them. I do write a lot of antisocial mindsets into my headcanons for Ticci Toby, and I heavily write ASPD into my OC, Tobin.
For Toby, his presentation of ASPD comes in the form of rebellion, not understanding/following social norms, recklessness, and a strong desire for power, dominance, and control. I write this as his subconscious response to the trauma he faced in childhood. As a child Toby was constantly put down and made to feel small and powerless at the hands of his father. In order to make sure his father abused only him and not his mother and sister, Toby would act out and be a troublemaker. I think that he would have a lot of ASPD behaviours and views on the world.
For my OC Tobin, he's pretty similar in presentation in regards to power/control, and not following social norms. He is very prone to justifying and rationalizing his behaviours to the point he doesn't feel remorse for the harm he causes. Tobin grew up in a very unstable and abusive environment where, like Toby, he did what he needed to do to get by. He never learned proper morals, norms, regulation, etc. But Tobin does care about others. He takes care of his little sister, and loves his girlfriend, and is very protective. Tobin is still a complex human being with more to him than just being an antisocial insensitive prick.
How can I write a character with ASPD?
Do proper research. Not on Reddit, or Quora, or WebMD. I mean go find trusted, scholarly articles and read real scientific papers and studies on ASPD. Do research into how/why it forms, the mindsets, the symptoms and their presentation, the neuroscience even.
Humanize your characters. While it's fun to throw around a bunch of negative and toxic traits to a character you want people to see as 'bad', it's lazy character development. Give them good, positive traits as well. People are very complex, and nobody will fit in to the mold of good or bad. Make them human enough where someone wont look at your character with ASPD and assume everyone with ASPD are monsters.
But also, don't water down the disorder. ASPD does cause harm to the patient and the people in their life. I've seen it a lot where people will try to fight against stigmatization by completely glamorizing the disorder. "People with ASPD aren't inherently bad! They don't actually hurt others or act hostile or say insensitive things"... Yes we do. And it causes many problems. And that is why its a disorder.
Personally I don't like to throw the ASPD label onto my characters even if I do write them to have ASPD because I feel like it just boxes them in. If you write a character with ASPD, try doing it in a way where a professional would be able to tell they have ASPD without you even mentioning the label.
Remember that ASPD is COMPLEX. It varies vastly in its presentation, its a disorder that is life-consuming and the dysfunctional beliefs and behavioural patterns are deeply ingrained and consistent throughout many different areas in someones life. It's a label to describe preexisting issues. It's something that is highly associated with childhood trauma, and drug addiction, and general suffering for the person dealing with their own chaotic mind.
The biggest problem I see that frustrates me is the way people throw around the terms "psychopath" and "sociopath", especially when someone just wants to add a layer of edginess onto their character. Remember that you are dealing with a condition that real people suffer from every day. If you can't handle it respectfully, and if you would demonize someone with ASPD in real life for acting as your character does, just don't write it in. Keep the label separate. We don't need any more stigmatization and misinformation.
I know this was very long, but it's such a multifaceted and complex issue and I've seen it enough times in the fandom to be frustrated enough to write this. If you have any questions, want more advice or information, please feel free to ask away in my ask box 🔥

what pokemon would u recommend for someone who practically requires physical affection at all times
well, first i'm going to give you the caveat that, regardless of what you want out of a pokemon, you need to make sure that you can properly provide for its needs. don't get a pokemon just because it's super cuddly if you aren't able to meet both its physical and mental/emotional requirements so that it has a good quality of life. that includes not trying to pet it constantly if it indicates that it needs a break. now, onto some options.
sylveon is a great choice, as it is a friendship evolution and hence bonds strongly with its trainer. as opposed to umbreon (which secrete toxic sweat) and espeon (which have sensitive fur), sylveon enjoy extended physical contact. they're known to wrap their feelers around their trainers' arms and will happily "hold hands" with their trainers that way!
komala are also very cuddly and will latch onto their trainer as they sleep, but be forewarned that they can react unexpectedly to something in their sleep and accidentally use a move on you. if you're not prepared for that possibility, i wouldn't go for komala.
the togepi line are all snuggly, but they also have extensive emotional needs (especially when they are young an unevolved). i don't recommend them to anyone who struggles with emotional regulation. it's not really an option to cuddle with them on a rough day until you've processed your own emotions, because extensive exposure to negative feelings can make them very sick.
swablu are often content perch on their trainers' head or shoulders as they go about their day, but keep in mind that excessive petting can lead to poor feather quality. they're good for if you just want something to sit on you, but if you don't want to be mindful about how much you touch them and keep a close eye on grooming needs, they aren't the pokemon for you. unlike my other recommendations, which are okay as single pokemon, they generally need to be kept with at least two other swablu.
those are a few to get you started in researching possible ownership. steer clear of anyone who advises that you get a greavard, too- while greavard are affectionate, extended exposure to them without breaks can make you extremely sick. they also tend to have difficulties with separation anxiety and dysfunctional bonding with their trainer, especially if you aren't careful in managing how much attention you give them. i don't recommend greavard as a pet unless you are an experienced trainer who is okay with saying no to cuddle time.

On Disability in Pokemon
In humans, there are myriad ways one can be disabled. There are physical disabilities- Missing limbs, paralysis, overgrowth of some organs, and the like. There are mental disabilities- learning disabilities, inability to regulate one's words, or impaired cognition of others.
And Pokemon, having infinitely more variety than humans, can have infinitely more ways of being disabled, as well. There are the physical- There is a shelter in Kanto which specializes in caring for "tripod" Growlithe, as an example. There are mental- Pokemon can have learning disabilities as well, or an inability to regulate their emotions.
But Pokemon and their special abilities lead to further ways they can be impaired. I have spoken before about Beans, my Zorua who cannot use illusions. I also remember, when I was a child, there was a Ditto who made the news for not being able to transform its face. There are examples such as a Drifloon who cannot fully inflate.
Pokemon and their biology are so complex and so malleable that it can be difficult to pin down what is a disability and what is not. For a time, there was an umbrella term called Quercus' Disease, when a Pokemon could not emit its elemental powers. However, in 1993, Quercus' Disease was officially removed from all the books, and is no longer a diagnosis, due to the term being so broad as to be functionally useless. It made no distinction between Pokemon who could not generate their elemental power, and those who generated and stored but could not emit them. There have been several attempts to fill the hole left by the lack of this diagnosis, but none have passed muster.
Let us use Cyndaquil as an example. Why might a Cyndaquil be unable to emit flames from its back? It might not be generating the proper chemicals to catch fire, or it might not have the spark generation to light the fire. It might also have the burning oils on its back dry out. It might overproduce, and thus the fire would be dangerous even to itself. The oils generated might be in the body, but not make it to the surface of the back. It might simply even just be clogged and clumped up. All of these things would be very different disabilities, with very different treatments. Yet, they all have the same appearance, and so they would all be lumped under a single umbrella term of Quercus' for a long time. And all of this is for one type of disability from one type of Pokemon.
There are so many others. Some Pokemon simply cannot evolve- Their bodies will either never trigger the correct hormonal surge, or the threshold is simply different, or any other number of things. Some Pokemon can experience gigantism or loss of cartilage upon evolution. Some Pokemon will only 'half-' evolve, and those are usually (but not always) left in... very poor quality of life. Sometimes, a Pokemon simply cannot handle its own needs, and... I digress.
Injury can also lead to disability. When a Pokemon is 'paralyzed' in battle, that is not true paralysis- In fact, there are two different things that are both called 'paralysis'. I would personally think they should be referred to as 'stunned'. An Electric attack may stop a Pokemon by causing the muscles to contract irregularly for a bit, or a heavy physical blow may stun by disrupting a Pokemon's balance for a bit.
True paralysis can occur in battles, though, as a result of spinal injuries. Pokemon have a recovery ability far greater than that of humans, so it is possible they can recover from even a broken spine that would otherwise cause permanent paralysis, but... not always.
A puncture to a Pokemon's flame sacs can also become a crippling disability. A cut to Pikachu's electric sacs that goes too deep may cause their electricity to interact with their bloodstream in... unpleasant ways.
And then there are some who simply cannot control their abilities. A Charmeleon who exhales flame whenever it breathes, regardless of its will. Slowpokes who cannot stop causing rain. Munna emitting a full fog of dream mist.
A veterinarian's job involves being able to handle most things for most Pokemon that will come to them. I very, very rarely practiced for anything outside of Unovan Pokemon, but now I am learning much of Johtonian Pokemon as well. But a veterinarian by necessity must be flexible, and able to handle any kind of Pokemon, even those they have never seen before.

the frustrating thing about about the Mental Eelness-- ADHD in my case, though I'm dead certain every neurodivergent person out there will have their own similar feelings-- is that I can be as kind and forgiving and understanding of myself as I want... but it doesn't? Change anything?
I can understand that poor time management skills is a result of my brain not being very good at estimating, but I still got fired from two jobs for being late a lot.
I can recognize that I have a hard time regulating my emotions when upset, and I'm trying to get better about putting myself in time out when I recognize what's happening, but there's still a couple of people that I was friends with for nearly a decade that won't talk to me anymore.
I can acknowledge that I have bad object permanence, that executive dysfunction makes starting important tasks feel like trying to climb a sheer wall, that my brain seeks out quick and easy shots of dopamine because it doesn't produce enough of its own-- but that doesn't really change anything.
All the understanding and forgiveness in the world doesn't make low payoff tasks any less painful and difficult than eating glass.
It's great that I know I'm not stupid or a failure, don't get me wrong. Modern society is already an enemy, I don't need to make myself into one more. I'm on medication and I'm old enough to have developed some strategies in the struggle against my own brain. But it's always going to be this difficult.
It's the first day of consciously starting a new habit, only it's every day, over and over. There is no routine that will develop. There is no schedule that I won't have to fight myself to stick to. I'm always going to have to force myself into doing things and then feel bad when I don't make it.
I'm not really going anywhere with this, and I'm definitely not looking for advice or strategies to help. I'm just, y'know. Yelling about it.
And to everyone else out there who has to fight the daily fight against the sack of pudding in their heads or the meat prison they call a body (or both), I'm pouring one out for you.
It fucking sucks, and I wish it didn't.

Thoughts While Watching Gilmore Girls, Season 3, Episode 8, Part 4: "Let The Games Begin", the part where Lorelai says that if Jess was trapped inside her burning house she would save her shoes first
Lorelai Gilmore, you are no Jack Pearson. I won't complete that thought, even though I'm feeling nice and mean and I totally should.
Scene: Lorelai and Rory are discussing the upcoming road trip to New Haven with the Gilmore Grands. Rory forgot to pack. Lorelai goes into panic mode. Rory questions why she needs to pack her entire closet for a short road trip. Lorelai recounts a family vacation story from her childhood that would be best unpacked in a lengthy therapy session, frets that her mother will lecture them for under-packing, starts rummaging through Rory's dresser. Rory catches Lorelai making a double entendre about a meaty taco and declares it was dirty. The show makes another dig at New Haven after Lorelai brings home a pamphlet about Exciting Things to Do In New Haven but it's only a few pages long.
Tumblr media
You sound surprised, as if ya'll aren't wearing heavy coats and long sleeves in the spring and summer. I swear there's something in the drinking water affecting everyone's thyroids in this town, they can't regulate their body temperatures.
Could anyone tell I'm stalling here? Classic Salty.
Tumblr media
Rory: Mom, stop rummaging through my shit. Awwwe. Even Evil Villains like Lorelai Gilmore get the blues. I'm surprised she decided to go on this road trip to Yale instead of sending Rory off alone with the Grands, that way she'd have the house and Dean Forrester to herself the entire day. Since Dean's sexual stamina only extends to 1-2 minutes, they could have had sex hundreds of times in a day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two quips that sprang to mind (couldn't decided which one was better): The only words Lorelai is thinking about right now are "Dean" and "Shower". Lorelai thinks Jess removed Rory's bracelet while they're in the shower together? Jess could only hope.
Tumblr media
Excuse me for a moment... *deep inhale*
Tumblr media
I went into the Tumblr gifs library and looked up "peaceful". Here is a nice, presumably not-evil, Peaceful Bunny.
Tumblr media
So not only does Jess commit attempted vehicular homicide, and steal Quarters on a String, he steals said QOAS by forcibly ripping them directly off the wrists of poor unsuspsecting delicate young ladies.
Tumblr media
Nice try. You think you're so slick, but you're not, Slick Gilly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You all don't understand the effort it takes for me to break down a scene like this without taking the cowards way out and simply rage quitting (which I have done before). I have to come up with multiple lines of witty, cutting commentary about what is unfolding before me, when all I want to do is KEYBORD SMASH. SO, YOU KNOW WHAT I WILL!! ITS A FREE COUNTRY ISNT IT! BALD EAGLE BASEBALL APPLE PIE! (Deep inhale) sagfshafgahfgasvxzcywtryqwuhajlkansjbkfagsfyafvabsfvsdgr2347527q2y4q#&$T%#^%^#*U@(%)&@tGSHFBSHFSVAGFSFS FUCKYOULORELAIGILMORE#^&#^%&#^WGHFSHGAS@$%@^@
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank for reminding the audience the reason why Lorelai thinks Jess should, ya know, die painfully and slowly. He was mouthy once. (the Netflix captions borked the line; Rory also said "and wrecked my car", but as if that makes Lorelai's treatment of Future Nephew any more justifable).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am told that in a later season, Lorelai bemoans the fact that unlike Dean, Jess never offered to change her water bottle for her. NOW WHY WOULD HE DO THAT? YOU'RE ABOUT TO WISH HIM A FIREY DEATH. AND WHEN HE WAS (FORCIBLY) APPOINTED TO CLEAN YOUR GUTTERS YOU DIDN'T WANT HIS HELP..
Tumblr media
Lorelai practically moans this, lol. We know "Change the water bottle" can mean two very different things. You ain't so slick, Slick Gilly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Welcome to Gaslighting and Emotional Manipulation Theater! See, here's the thing Slick Gilly, I watched an entire frigging episode about you accusing Jess of being a thief, it was called Lost and Found and it took me four frigging centuries to finish, I'm quite sure I have concrete evidence that you have accused him of stealing things. I am Jess Mariano's defense attorney and I will see you in court. Bring Rory too, she should also start getting used to what a court room looks like.
Tumblr media
Rory, honey. Sweetie. Sugar bear. It's best you don't wish for a crystal ball. Just strap in to the rollercoaster that is dating Jess Mariano while living with your mother, and pray.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See, here's the thing Slick Gilly, I watched an entire frigging episode about you not letting Jess enter your house, it was called Swan Song and it will take me four frigging centuries to rewatch it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This "Jess talks in grunts" shtick is getting old and moldy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So not only does Jess commit attempted vehicular homicide, steal Quarters on a String, and steal said QOAS by forcibly ripipng them directly off the wrists of poor unsuspsecting delicate young ladies, but he's also an arsonist, and not only is he an arsonist, he's such a bad one that he'll apparently be killed by his handiwork? (he also can't be trusted to clean gutters). He was probably trying to off himself instead of live in Stars Hollow for another minute. Can we recall another time Rory tried to play this same grim hypothetical with her mom? Does Rory, like Jess, also have some kind of firey death wish? I mean, who can blame either of them. *twinkly flashback music to early season 2*
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I notice Pigtails didn't say "my daughter" this time, either. Sorry Rory. Maybe try playing a third time until she answers with "Some form of human life." Lorelai lies to Rory's face that she "promised you before and am promising you again that I will cut "this kid" some slack." Alright, I ran through my 30 screen shots, let's stuff this scene in a sack and throw it into the lake with Shane and her swan family.
Rory: "You're just waiting for the day I break up with Jess." Lorelai The Villain: "Did I like Dean? Yes. Did I worry less when you were with dean? Yes! I never expected you to be with Dean forever. I don't expect you to be with Jess forever." What a pile of rancid baloney. Maybe he won't be with Rory forever, but 13 years later Jess becomes her nephew and will be a part of her family forever and I will never, ever, ever stop loving that. What JUSTICE.
When I hit my lowest of low valleys listening to this wretched woman spew her many lies and Gilly-Nonsense, It's often the only thing that makes me smile.

ray tpn is autistic and i'm gonna tell you why now
ray is one of the most heavily autistic-coded characters i can think of, and i've been wanting to write up a post going over as many of his autistic mannerisms as i can because there is a lot. this will probably be long because i am also autistic and i am especially autistic about ray, so please enjoy while i psychoanalyze this anime boy with way more scrutiny than anyone would consider healthy <3
Tumblr media
body language
perhaps one of the strongest arguments for ray's autism can be made by looking at his body language. ray tries to keep a stoic, neutral expression and voice the majority of the time (though he's often quite. bad at that too) but he is always extremely expressive through his movements and gestures, the most noticeable of which being the use of his hands. pretty much every character uses hand gestures, but ray is ridiculously excessive. it'd take frankly way too long to compile every instance of this (or even half) throughout the manga, so here's a small collection of gestures from s1 of the anime to give an idea:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
note that this is not even close to all of them and that he's exactly like this in the manga as well, though the animation and its use of snappy, exaggerated movements does help to make these much more noticeable.
moving away from his hands there's also just a lot of really expressive full-body language as well, such as this friendly chokehold:
Tumblr media
this dramatic shrug:
Tumblr media
and this even more dramatic flop:
Tumblr media
just to name a few. basically, ray has a thing for grand unnecessary movements and no one is surprised.
poor emotional regulation and masking
as i mentioned before, ray tries really really hard to bottle up his emotions and keep a sort of stoic persona during his time at gracefield. he's also really really bad at doing this. not terrible, as he was able to keep up a believable enough front that none of the other kids saw anything odd about his behavior for 6 years, but that's also because he deals with so much more stress once the events of the escape arc actually get going. there is a stark difference between his quiet and detached demeanor while emma and norman are still in the dark about the house, and him nearly having a meltdown every time something strays from his meticulously crafted plans while they actually begin making their preparations to escape over the course of the arc.
just a few examples of this include him nearly having a breakdown when emma insists on taking everyone:
Tumblr media
or one of my favorite anime exclusive moments where he strains his voice while yelling at isabella to the point he breaks into a coughing fit:
Tumblr media
and it's not just big flashy meltdowns, but little bursts of anger as well. shoutout to this moment in particular where he launches this bucket with enough force to tear up a bit of the damn ground:
Tumblr media
this emotional instability can be seen after the escape as well, the most glaring example being how he interacts with yuugo:
Tumblr media
their dynamic in general really does a good job of showing ray’s mental state after the escape, because pre-goldy pond yuugo is An Asshole. and ray is so, so easy to piss off and quite frankly tired from bottling up his emotions for so long that every interaction with said asshole is a massive struggle to keep himself from physically attacking him.
as for the topic of masking, that’s what ray’s attempts to hide his emotions feel like to me. ray is constantly in danger of losing isabella’s trust, whether that be by revealing he may be a little more attached to the other kids than he lets on or by showing too much emotion that the other kids start to wonder what the hell’s going on. ray has to constantly hide and cover up his emotions with more palatable ones for others out of fear of looking out of place or being seriously hurt, and well if that doesn’t just describe autistic masking to a tee i don’t know what does.
maybe one of the things that gets me the most about that is that he's essentially been masking for about half of his life, and doing that for any extended period of time is extremely draining. ray has been drained to the point that he will have full meltdowns when put under any sort of stress and when you take into account the fact that he already has pretty severe anger issues as a result of his trauma, it's really no wonder he has such a short fuse.
lack of a filter when speaking
ray is a very blunt person. he speaks matter-of-factly and he wastes no time in getting straight to his point, sometimes with only a single sentence:
Tumblr media
the way he talks is also pretty significant, as he generally has a more monotone way of speaking. he really only yells when he gets really worked up which like i said, happens a lot, but there’s almost no inbetween for him. pre-escape, he tries to show as little emotion in his voice as possible outside of his outbursts.
as for post-escape ray, he does seem to show much more emotion in the way he speaks. its a bit harder to judge, as nothing past the escape arc was ever adapted into the anime (s2 isnt real it cant hurt you) but his facial expressions become much more varied and it’s easy to say his vocal inflections likely do as well. however, what we can say for sure is that he remains just as blunt as ever:
Tumblr media
no matter how comfortable he becomes with expressing himself, this aspect of his speech never seems to change.
while we’re on the topic of his speaking mannerisms please also direct your attention to these panels:
Tumblr media
these need no explanation.
sensory issues. so many sensory issues
briefly moving back to the subject of ray’s hands, i couldn’t help but notice during my countless s1 rewatches that they are almost never just resting at his sides. if he's not using his hands for unnecessary gestures they are either shoved into his pockets, or he's crossing his arms. it's very likely his arms default to these positions because they offer a sort of sense of security, the former keeping his hands covered and the latter keeping him more closed off, almost like he's constantly hugging himself. basically, ray is a 'likes to feel covered and secure' autistic and if he was buried in weighted blankets he'd probably love it.
also tying into the ‘likes to feel covered’ aspect of ray’s autism is this scarf he acquires sometime during the volume 12 timeskip:
Tumblr media
it’s a well known autistic thing to get attached to articles of clothing and wear them as much as possible, and boy does ray get attached to this scarf. i can count 2 post-timeskip scenes off the top of my head that have him not wearing this scarf, and the image on the right takes place a full 2 years after the left one in canon. he has no explicitly stated emotional attachment to this scarf and we don’t even know how he got it, just that he almost never takes it off. it could easily be seen as a comfort item, maybe he just likes the way the fabric feels or the extra coverage it offers him. there is post-canon content that depicts him without it, but the fact that he wore it almost nonstop for at least 2 years straight is still pretty significant.
another sensory thing i feel is worth mentioning is that ray seems to have a very specific tolerance threshold for physical contact. he seems fine initiating touch himself, and touches from emma and norman are generally alright, likely because they are the only people he has openly allowed himself to be close with his entire life. sudden touches from others however, are a different story. the one that immediately comes to mind is this interaction with don:
Tumblr media
don in particular is someone ray becomes pretty close to, and i would say that besides the obvious growth with emma and norman, don is likely the person we see the most development with with in terms of their relationship. him having this reaction to a hug from someone he’s so close to seems indicative of some issues with unexpected contact.
and finally one of my absolute favorite things the anime added, which is ray experiencing what looks a lot like sensory overload:
Tumblr media
this takes place right after the argument with isabella, which ended with him being knocked to the floor and locked up in a room by himself, so its needless to say that he’s pretty shaken up. he gets so overwhelmed that all he can do is yell and desperately reach for any sort of stimulation to keep him grounded, curling in on himself and aggressively ruffling up his hair. i genuinely cannot think of an allistic explanation for this scene.
and basically, he is just so autistic
all in all, theres some pretty damn solid evidence for ray being autistic and whether it was intentional or not, the sheer amount of autism-coding present in ray’s writing is almost impossible to ignore. i love some good projection but i don’t even need to do that much, hes just doing this all on his own. in conclusion:

Black Pearl Cookie and BPD
Tumblr media
I think folks should discuss how we now have another character heavily coded to have BPD in Black Pearl Cookie, so that's exactly what my (diagnosed) self is gonna do--
BPD, Borderline personality disorder, is defined as a mental illness that significantly impacts a person’s emotional regulation, according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Such a deregulation results in increased impulsivity, poor self-esteem/sense of self, and difficulty in relationships with others.
While there is no defined cause for the disorder, most experts generally agree it comes from environmental factors. In particular long term exposure to stress/danger as a child and abuse (particular CSA).
The best way to go through it imo is to go through some general criteria that often goes into the condition... and how it can apply to White/Black Pearl both before she absorbed the tear and after.
1. Unstable or changing relationships
Her feelings on others often go through shifts depending on her mood and state of mind; even as White Pearl, she couldn't bring herself to hurt or kill Lord Oyster even after how betrayed she felt. She wanted to hate him, but she couldn't separate the fact he hurt her from the fact she loved him. Her unstable relationships can also be seen in her sisters and the complicated relationship she had with them that only got more complicated when she became Black Pearl.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
An example of this I'd provide is this-- Crimson Coral is right this situation is far more complicated than White Pearl thinks. But her attachment (more on that later) to Lord Oyster and complicated relationship both with him and her sisters led to... problems.
2. Unstable self-image, including struggles with sense of self and identity
We saw this in her emotions during Duskgloom, but this scene just makes it even more blatant in how she has a sense of disassociation and depersonalization-- she struggles to see White Pearl as herself.
Tumblr media
Many people with, especially those whose BPD can be traced back to childhood PTSD/trauma (like myself) often experience this sensation of seeing pictures of themselves as kids and not recognizing it as themselves. It's not quite like DID, but there is some overlap if that helps.
3. Anger regulation problems, including frequent loss of temper or physical fights
This one goes without saying. Black Pearl finds herself sinking ships... I wouldn't even say just for fun. As we see in the New Years snippet of her that it's not even fun for her.
She feels compelled to act out the way she does as its the only way she feels she can let out these feelings. It is not justified, but it's not her killing people for fun. We also see it in the scene with this very CG where her emotions shift HARD and suddenly with Caviar.
4. Frequent mood swings
Not much explanation here, as it kinda goes hand in hand with the above notes on her anger issues. And how she shifted in tone with Caviar quickly when she got triggered by his poking at her past.
5. Impulsive behaviors
Also kinda already explained; in her sinking stuff not being for fun, this kinda goes into it as its more of an impulsive habit she does to stave off her feelings and hurt.
Five traits is enough to get a diagnosis amongst other things, but I would argue from personal experience she also shows traits of stress-related paranoia (her interaction with Caviar), and deep down a consistent and constant feelings of sadness or worthlessness.
One of the more popular things discussed about BPD online is the idea of having a favorite person; its often an individual experience (as how a lot of ppl describe the feeling doesn't match my experience, but I know I have a FP), but I would argue that White Pearl developedthis relationship with Lord Oyster. It was a quick, sudden, and arguably irrational attachment that led to her placing her entire faith and identity into him (symbolized by her giving him the pearl). And when you're hurt by your fp... well, its. Complicated.
You want to see them suffer; disappear. Or... thats how it often is depicted. I know for me that it takes a lot for my feelings to reach this point. Instead, I struggle to truly accept I've been hurt and instead ignore the feeling/act out in other ways.
Instead of switching from idolization to devaluing, she just. Chose to ignore it. She couldn't bring herself to hurt or hate him, and so she forced him to never return. And stewed in maladaptive coping mechanisms at the bottom of the sea...
Black Pearl's association with key parts of BPD is an important part of her character, and one I'm glad to discuss with others. I hope you found this thread nice, and if you'd like to add anything please feel free!!!

been doing some thinking about good omens (when don't i these days?)
and i've noticed that, especially in season 1, we get a lot more of a 'behind the scenes' look at crowley than we do aziraphale, especially where emotional responses are concerned. we often see crowley's pain, but almost never see aziraphale's. Take for example when he's asking god what she's doing, and the 'i lost my best friend' line.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ this one too. a very public expression of grief.
these are all extremely vulnerable moments for crowley, any way you slice it. but what i thought about as i woke up this morning was that (besides the finale of season 2, which i'll talk about in a sec) there are no points when aziraphale gets this vulnerable.
i think the closest two we see in season 1 are when crowley leaves aziraphale at the bandstand-
Tumblr media
and just after this scene when the metatron says that the point of the war isn't to avoid it. (i can't find that exact expression, this is the closest i can manage to get to it)
Tumblr media
right after this, his hopes are dashed, and he has this heartbreaking expression on his face
Tumblr media
WOOF. poor angel. but these scenes with aziraphale are much more reserved than the vulnerability we see with crowley. It's still there, it's not as if he feels nothing. Now, is this an example of self control, or repression?
personally, i'm willing to bet repression.
so i think what i'm trying to say is, my initial idea that aziraphale felt less than crowley was completely false. what's been on my mind is that there's so much going on under aziraphale's mask that we just- don't have access to.
there are times throughout the show where crowley is devastated, whereas aziraphale is much, much more restrained. and the truth is, if we look at the narratives, i think there's much more of a focus on how crowley feels (possibly because he's the more expressive of the two? but it feels intentional to me)
a demon is supposed to be miserable, according to hell. it's probably part of the job description somewhere.
which makes me so curious on whether or not heaven has its own toxic counterpart to that, where angels are 'required' to appear happy at all times.
take for example, the multitude of fake smiles aziraphale gives to the other angels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
keeping up appearances? the dude's freaking miserable when he has to talk to other angels. the quick scans, the smile not really reaching his eyes. this is someone who's anxious as heck. doing his best to hold it together as the world crashes down around him. i'm not going to do an analysis of fake vs real smiles for aziraphale, because others have done that much better than i have. but if we compare these with aziraphale's real smiles...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
much brighter, huh?
so... i'm not great at critical readings when i let my own feelings and biases get in the way. and i kind of did with good omens.
i assumed that aziraphale didn't feel as much, that his control was greater. in comparison to crowley, he's got better emotional regulation. in a lot of fanfics, he's placed in the role of caretaker, of guardian. and yeah, it makes sense.
then season 2 happened. with that finale. and suddenly aziraphale is just as raw.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
holy shit. this entire time, aziraphale has been feeling strongly, struggling under the weight of his responsibilities, and is desperate for things to be okay just as much as crowley is. and it feels like up until these moments, he's been hiding it from everyone, including the audience. i don't want to depart from what's shown on screen, but i'm so curious what's going on under the hood.
is aziraphale supposed to be 'the strong one'? does he he feel like it's not safe to express his emotions? it seems that way, doesn't it?
i assumed (incorrectly) that aziraphale was more 'put together'. more 'rational'. more able to 'control himself' (which i interpreted as a good thing, for complicated and personal reasons. because the toxicity in heaven is very similar to my bio family, and i came to the wrong conclusion.)
no. he's wounded, and struggling just as much. i didn't see it until now. on my first viewing, that's why the ending for S2 felt so out of left field for me. i was thinking to myself, 'where the hell is this coming from? aziraphale's supposed to be making smarter decisions than this. he's supposed to be better, supposed to-'
i was wrong. my anger was somewhat misplaced. he's broken and scared too. he's just better at hiding it.

Apart from Hipercy, what are your favorite punch out fics?
im assuming u meant ships right?? IN AAANY CASE, here u go bro !!
Royal army (von kaiser x king hippo) is definitely up there as my favorite PO ship. I love how it started out as a crackship from a joke in animal crossing but then just delved into Whatever the fuck w/ maber KJDHKSJF.
But seriously though !! they just Work somehow... like you have both of them having royal names (albeit i hc hippos is an actual title he carries, and kaisers more of a stage name bc of his interest in royal n military history). Plus, I think kaiser would b very interested in learning more ab hippos culture n hippo would b happy to indulge him. It's what elevates Kaiser from ''just another peasant'' to Hippo as someone who he's willing to talk to! Not many people take his title seriously as hippo island's fairly unknown outside of the south pacific hes from, so when they first meet, Kaiser's a huge breath of fresh air to him.
Seeing as Kaiser is a polyglot as well in my HC, I like to think he was one of the few people in the WVBA who had prior knowledge of Hippo Island and it's language. Although Kaiser can only speak a couple basic sentences and struggles with the pronounciation, Hippo still appreciates the effort. In turn, Kaiser has also taught Hippo some German, the language being easier to Hippo due to the sounds made.
Totally T4T (tism4tism).
ALSO imagine the hippo island kids n kaiser's academy kids going on some type of exchange w/ one another !! theyd have the time of their lives !! The kids would totally get into an argument over who's cooler too.
They're a lot like opposites attracting as well. Hippo, although he is responsible to his people, is generally a lot more easygoing n defo helps kaiser let loose a bit more like how he did in his 20s (berliner party days baybe !!!) But Hippo learns a lot from Kaiser too ! he really admires his work ethic, and loves how much of a leader n fatherly he is to the kids he teaches. He admires his resilience as well, both having confided much into eachother. His resilicience almost like a... MACHINE?!? Either way, both have positions in which they lead in some way, and theyve both taught eachother a lot.
Also they bond over dead mother figures (hippos who died of illness, and kaiser's who went missing when he was very young.)
As for how they'd butt heads, would be kaisers endless need to seek approval due to his dad being emotionally constipated, and hippos occasional emotional outbursts (poor emotional regulation). also hippos friendly teasing (how he shows affection, aside from physical contact) sometimes strikes a nerve w/ kaiser, esp if it's about his age or career.
One time, after a particularly exhausting match, kaiser just fell asleep on hippos lap as the latter was holding him. Aran walked by in disbelief, w/ hippo going ''heh, jealous? ;)'' w/ aran going ''Nah, not at all''
One last thing.... hippo sees kaiser as a kitten (thank you maber for that idea i am obsessed); kaiser's height n physique r significantly smaller than hippo's, leading to hippo often times patting him on the head n even picking him up like he weighs nothing. Kaiser secretly rly likes it, but he won't tell him directly because yknow... hes got a rep to protect.
Tumblr media
^ Kaiser to Hippo
other ships i like include.... Red bull (soda x bull) burnt bread (joe x aran) u can blame charlie for both those (jk jk bro im glad u got me into those ships. But please read his fics, thats how i got into them) and disco kid x heike kagero !!
Red bull is just very neat bc of the whole, in simple terms, sunshine x grump dynamic (and im saying simple terms bc charlie's fics flesh out their relationship A LOT more n its basically the best ok go read his fics), burnt bread bc of how unlikely yet funny it is, and disco x heike bc, eventhough theyve never interacted, you KNOW theyd absolutely be bffs at the very least.

please talk more about neurodivergent mav bc it’s my reason to live n breathe fr
I'm so glad you sent me this ask, because I was asking myself, "Should I make a real post about this?" and then you came and answered the question for me.
Maverick Mitchell is Neurodivergent
Very briefly, for anyone who has questions: The term "neurodivergent" refers to someone whose brain works differently than the majority of people ("neurotypicals.") While neurodiversity is by definition diverse, there are hallmarks of neurodivergence that are common in the majority of neurodivergent people. I'm not here to make definitive statements about neurodiversity; I'm speaking about my read on one, particular character. This is an opinion post. I will also be referring to my own experience as neurodivergent, because this is not a scholarly article and it's my blog, so I'm kind of thinking of it as a 30-some-year longitudinal study.
mav·er·ick /ˈmav(ə)rik/ noun
The definition of "maverick" is, "an unorthodox or independent-minded person," which I fucking love when we're talking about Maverick Mitchell as neurodivergent, because that's literally how he got his name: By thinking differently. That is the definition of neurodivergence, and one of its hallmarks is thinking creatively.
"I'll hit the brakes; he'll fly right by."
Maverick approaches flying creatively. It serves him well, but he's censured for it more than once by authority figures who don't understand the way he thinks. "Aircraft one performs a split S? That's the last thing you should do.... What were you thinking at this point?"
Tumblr media
Charlie doesn't understand Maverick's thought process, because it's dissimilar from her own. Neurotypicals often have difficulty understanding or anticipating the thoughts of neurodivergents, and vice versa. (Though both groups can read and predict the thought processes of members of their own group with the same level of accuracy.) Maverick has difficulty explaining his own thought process to her, which is a common neurodivergent experience, because it's loud and busy in there, and my brain just makes connections that I can't always express. A reminded me of B which reminded me of C which reminded me of D and now we're on X and it happened in a split second, and no, I'm not sure how we got here. But that's not what he tells her. What he says is: "There's no time to think up there. If you think, you're dead."
Which leads me to my next point: Neurodivergence can also account for Maverick's motto: "Don't think; just do." Many neurodivergents have strong intuitions, and they often believe their intuition first. Additionally, given the right circumstances, neurodivergents are capable of intense and sustained focus, to the point where the world outside the target just kind of fades away. Neurodivergent thinking is also characterized by being observant, detail-focused, and a good problem solver. If you're intensely focused, and that's how your brain works naturally, then you just take in all these details and the pieces of the problem, and your brain sorts it for you automatically, and you do whatever you're doing like muscle memory. Show the math. Well, I can't, but I got to the right answer, didn't I?
Impulse Control and Emotional Regulation
"Time to buzz the tower, Goose."
Neurodivergence is often characterized by poor impulse control and emotional regulation. We know Maverick has poor impulse control. There are multiple instances across the films where someone lists his many impulsive actions that felt good in the moment but resulted in negative consequences large and small. It's not that Maverick does not know that, for example, buzzing the tower will result in immediate negative consequences. This is not brand new information. He knows. It's just that the impulse to do it is stronger than the voice of logic telling him not to, and he has never learned to control his impulses. Honestly, I have no idea what this feels like for neurotypical people. I feel a difference between a want or a desire and an impulse. Like, "I want a vanilla coke right now. That sounds amazing." I feel desire, and maybe I'm disappointed if I cannot acquire the object of my desire, but it's a relatively small and manageable feeling. An impulse is not. An impulse is a huge feeling, and it's not just emotional; I feel it physically in my body, both this emotional and physical desperate discomfort that I cannot extinguish without Doing the Thing. In many instances, I know I should not Do the Thing. My brain provides all sorts of reasons why I should not Do the Thing. But that doesn't diminish the impulse at all. I cannot feel better until I Do the Thing. Often, once the high of Doing the Thing is over, I have regrets. Those regrets create kind of an impulse hangover, but this feeling (and even the knowledge that I will have this feeling in the immediate future) does not in any way dissuade me from Doing the Thing. You can learn impulse control. It is a skill you can acquire. Maverick has not acquired this skill. And neither have I.
Poor emotional regulation is another hallmark of neurodivergence. It is more difficult to begin with because neurodivergents tend to emotional extremes, so the emotions are much bigger than the ones felt day-to-day by neurotypicals.
Tumblr media
"I will fire when I am goddamn good and ready, you got that?"
(Emotional regulation is not just about controlling your anger, but this is the example that I have at hand.) Some people have emotions. My emotions have me. They pilot this craft. I am years into actively working on emotional regulation, and a lot of the time I find myself completely controlled by my feelings, and not the other way around. Maverick has this problem, too. Was his reaction to Sundown above appropriate and proportional to the situation? Probably not. Was it necessary to jump in Ice's face in the locker room after a brief argument? Probably not. But if you don't run your emotions, they run you.
He also has the correlating problem, which is numbing yourself out. Your emotions are too big and you can't control them, so you swallow them, push them down so far that all you feel is numb. Empty. Hollow. It can be like a seesaw: Emotions get too big, cause you distress, so you suppress them; now you feel numb. The other long-term problem with poor emotional regulation is that if you don't deal with your emotions, you can't get rid of them. The treatment for PTSD is processing your trauma. Unpacking it, dealing with every detail, feeling every bit of emotion that's attached. (I just did this last year. It's called prolonged exposure therapy, and it is absolutely the hardest thing I have ever done on purpose.) In the first film, Maverick is still carrying the trauma of his parents' death; in the second, he's still carrying the trauma of Goose's death and losing Bradley. If you don't process your trauma, you have to keep it. That's what PTSD is.
Tumblr media
Differences in Social Skills and Awareness
This is where I started the discussion of Mav being neurodivergent the other day. A lot of Maverick's problems with the establishment of the Navy can be attributed to neurotypicals not understanding his creative thinking, or to problems caused by his poor impulse control and emotional regulation, but I think most of it is probably attributable to this. Neurodivergents socialize differently than neurotypicals, and they often have difficulty reading the nuances and unspoken cues of neurotypical social situations. Cain asks Maverick why he hasn't been promoted above captain, and Maverick tells him that he's, "where he belongs" (meaning he doesn't want to stop flying full-time), but in truth ranks above captain require a lot of diplomacy, tact, and social sensitivity, and these are not skills Maverick has. (Which is not a bad thing, unless he's trying to do Ice's job. They have different skill sets; that's not where Maverick belongs.)
Navigating the social minefield of the Navy is more of a large picture issue, so I think that the best examples of Maverick's differences in social skills and awareness are small moments.
Tumblr media
"I believe the admiral is asking a rhetorical question."
Maverick does not pick that up. He knows what a rhetorical question is, and he adjusts his behavior when Warlock clues him in, but Maverick cannot pick up the small, unspoken cues that Cyclone is giving to indicate it is a rhetorical question. Maverick takes Cyclone's speech in a very straight-forward manner: He asked a question, so I'm going to answer the question. Neurodivergents often take speech at face value, having difficulty with figures of speech such as metaphor and colloquialisms, because they expect people to say what they mean and mean what they say. There are other cues that neurodivergents pay attention to when communicating, but they're emotional and intuitive, not social or situational. Neurodivergents tend to express themselves honestly and so expect honesty in return. Euphemisms and pussyfooting for the sake of niceties or any other reason is not a natural instinct in neurodivergent communication. "Tact is just not saying true stuff. I'll pass." (That's Cordelia Chase, not Maverick Mitchell, but it's the vibe here.)
Neurodivergence is just your brain working differently than most people's. Like all things, it has its benefits and its drawbacks. But it affects every part of your life and how you live it, because it's how you see and make sense of the world. Maverick Mitchell's neurodivergence makes him who he is.

Any tips for a poor soul who's pet-sitting a vaporeon, gardevoir, and a haterene? Asking for a friend.
i mean...my main tip would be "ask their trainer." that's a really wide variety of pokemon, and without knowing them/knowing how they interact/knowing how well you know them, i can't say much other than things like "keep the vaporeon moist" and "don't hang out with the hatterene unless you have good emotional regulation." individual pokemon have their own quirks, so it's always important to ask plenty of question if you pet-sit for someone!
without knowing these pokemon, my main concerns would be how the gardevoir and hatterene interact and whether or not the gardevoir gets anxious without its trainer. if you can get in contact with the trainer, that's what i would prioritize figuring out. vaporeon are generally alright as long as they have access to water and toys, but again, its trainer can tell you its needs better than i can.

So something that really bothers me about the current creative world (idk a better word for it, I've seen a bunch of places where its prevalent, from fandom to games to books to shows) is this insistence from creators/fans that they HAVE to engage with negative posts about them. Like, I don't mean people going up to them and sending asks/reblogging/retweeting their posts about it, but I mean people who otherwise aren't doing anything to the creator, just talking about frustrations on their socials.
There's this like. Idk what to call it except shared point of view that its ~cool~ to dunk on people who don't like your thing. And like, if someone is coming directly for the creators, its different, but its almost like you can't complain on your social media sites about things you don't like because otherwise the author/mod/creator will troll the tag and get up in your face about it? It's kind of weird and invasive for creators to do that to people who aren't actually seeking them out, ya know? It's like. Why do you even care if someone doesn't like it or they disagree with someone on the thing? Why do you feel the need to interact with negative views of your thing instead of just letting them fall to the wayside?
Now that its becoming more of a widely-accepted Thing, it really puts me off interacting with fandoms at all. I'm going to preface this by saying: I am autistic and I have ADHD. This results in poor emotional regulation, and sometimes when I get annoyed/mad/upset or something, I make a post about it on my blog. It's a way to deal with the struggles I face with my emotions as an autistic person that (if you don't go looking for it) doesn't hurt anyone. You can argue its not pretty, but when I'm talking to myself, on my own social media account, then I don't think you can make the argument that I'm targeting whoever I talk about. Unless they decide to hop up on my post, which is what I've seen a lot of creators nowadays doing.
And you can argue its their job to look at the online communities centered around them, which is totally fair! But what ISN'T their job is finding people in those communities that disagree or have negative opinions on the creator, and putting them on blast to fans. Just leave them alone if they're not directly coming for you. They're not hurting you if they're talking about it on their personal social media sites.
Like. I feel like in creator's haste to interact with their fans, its created this weird social dynamic where they can't leave things alone. They HAVE to release a statement about That One User. They HAVE to try and clown on someone who doesn't like them. And its just. Very frustrating for people who have more of the autistic/ADHD traits that are considered "ugly" (poor emotional regulation, anger as a first response, not being able to articulate, etc.) that are trying to keep it away from others and in their own little corners. And this current Vibe fandom has about it is very, very disappointing. So many people act like its perfectly fine for creators to do this because they, too, like to clown on someone who doesn't like their faves.
I think creators need to leave disgruntled fans alone. It does nothing for the creator except increase engagement with that particular post, but opens up the person they interacted with to whatever rabid fans would like to bite them that day.
