Anon Ace Fic Recs!

Happy weekend! And thank you to everyone who sent anonymous fic recs! @queenieofaces decided not to take me up on the offer, but I’m so glad to have so many people come and give so many recs! And so many I hadn’t read!

Before we begin, though: Please make sure to read all tags/warnings on these works. I haven’t read all of them and cannot vouch for what may or may not be in them; plus, everyone has different things they don’t want to read.

I Know How to Love Only When You're Holding Me by kingess Fandom: Les Misérables Rec: This is my absolute favorites. It's Les Misérables, ace Courfeyrac x Combeferre, and omg I recognise so many things. (50k, complete, Trigger warning for non-consensual sex.)

A Good Officer by hoc_voluerunt Fandom: Les Misérables Rec: Look for it. Read it. Love it. It's a Les Misérables with Ace!Javert in a relationship with Valejan and it's THE fanfic I return to when I want to read ace relationship fluff. Just so you imagine my love for it, it includes POC!Javert, Les Amis+Cosette in a queer collective and coffee shop au. Enough said. (101k, complete, There's a suicide attempt and panic attacks so mind the warnings!) (It's a happy ending, though, I promise)

Ten Days by Engazed Fandom: BBC Sherlock Rec: Technically there are not necessarily any cannon ace characters, but none of is it directly romance or sex related. Some partially in the beginning and middle. (137k, complete, Strong warnings for really graphic violence and explicitly non consensual scenes.)

Horse And Carriage Series by flawedamethyst Fandom: BBC Sherlock Rec: ngl this is what I want my hypothetical future marriage to look like. My favorites are “Horse And Carriage” and “Paris And Permanence,” but they’re all great. (60k, complete)

After the Applause by tartanfics Fandom: Agent Carter Rec: This is just a little tiny piece of fluff, but there’s so little ace!femslash that I thought good ones would be appreciated. (2k, complete)

Misadventures of the SI-5's Best Agents Series by 14CombatGeishas Fandom: Wolf 359 Rec: @queenofthecommunistcannibals is an AMAZING writer who is writing a fic series with two aro ace QPPs. I highly HIGHLY recommend the first part "I'm Your Savior"! The fic series also works extremely well on its own and has lots of action/ fun spy adventures, complex characters and found family sweetness! (226k, ongoing w/ 4 parts complete, graphic violence warning)

(Un)Broken by likethedirection Fandom: Supernatural Rec: Most Supernatural acefic is feel-good and fluffy; maybe it was a weak moment, but this one was so feel-good, it almost made me cry. (5k, complete)

Alien Romance by Skye Fandom: Choushinsei Flashman Rec: I would never have read this work if I didn’t know the author since I only have so much tolerance for 80′s sentai, but I am so glad that I did. It’s just the right distance from gender roles, and it has a perfect build up to resolution. (8k, complete)

All Your Sickness I Will Suck It Up by indevan Fandom: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Rec: (34k, complete, deals with eating disorders/mental health issues)

run, run, fast as you-- (orphaned work) Fandom: Welcome to Night Vale Rec: Just yesterday i was thinking about how much i love this fic and how Carlos' story seems to actually reflect the experiences ace gay men, particularly the high school part (105k, complete, tw: stalking, domestic violence, threats of rape and suicide, general wtnv horror)

Something Like This by emmagrant01 Fandom: Check Please! Rec: This is a great omgcp fic with a demisexual protagonist. Unlike a lot of fics with demi characters, though, this fic really gets into what it means and really feels real and believable. (285k, complete, mentions the 2016 Orlando shooting)

Fresh by WhatWouldLilyDo Fandom: Check Please! Rec: This fic has a good gray-A subplot. (91k, complete)

If you want to kiss the sky by seigeofangels Fandom: Stargate Atlantis Rec: This fic is almost painful to read. In the best traditions of speculative fiction, it is an AU that is incredibly far removed from out world, yet an eerie mirror because of it. (8k, complete)

Dolce Domum by busaikko Fandom: Stargate Atlantis Rec: Because found family is such a strong theme of Stargate Atlantis, this is one of three fics that delve into a poly relationship involving an ace (along with everything you want (you can have) by melonbutterfly and The Complexity of Daily Life by Teaphile, which are both also excellent). I like this one the most, though, for how lacking in drama it is. Sometimes you really can just have an honest conversation with the people who are important to you, and it’s fine. (3k, complete)

In My Way by INeverHadMyInternetPhase Fandom: Phandom (Dan and Phil) Rec: Amazing ace fic, it was the first time I saw representation that acknowledged me, and I actually ended up in the best qpr with the author. She is wonderful and just moved to my city. But 10/10 rec this fic. It’s AU so you don’t really need to know the fandom. It’s just a wonderful exploration of asexuality and navigating relationships/boundaries. (129k, incomplete)

There’s a skyline in Oklahoma by spurious Fandom: Johnny’s Entertainment Rec: I like the realistic tone of this fic. It’s not easy for anyone, and people make questionable decisions; their lives change. Their lives--and the ace character’s asexuality--just are. And they find a way to live at peace with themselves. (10k, complete)

Insomnia by kihadu Fandom: Dragon Age II Rec: The ace character is a supporting character but features prominently and aceness is addressed. (9k, complete)

Moving Forward by kihadu Fandom: Dragon Age II Rec: The main character dealing with his asexuality. Written by an author who is asexual themself. (4k, complete)

Like Air Series by JRosemary Fandom: White Collar Rec: White Collar is a show that doesn’t know what asexuality is but somehow has a main character with just enough asexual subtext to be plausible. This fic is really good for how it picks that apart, although you can also tell that this was one of the first fandoms to have any acefic to speak of. (6k, complete)

Little Ordinary Things by Ingu Fandom: The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015) Rec: I like the ambiguity of this fic. There’s some really good discussion in the comments about it, too. (5k complete)
