Bitter cold nipped at Penelope’s cheeks as she desperately rubbed her hands together, seeking whatever little heat the motion could create for her. Her fingers long since gone red and tingly from the freezing temperatures, making it desperately difficult to feel any iota of warmth. Stupid motel. Stupid winter. Penelope would give anything to time travel back to earlier that morning, hold the cool metal room key in her hands. But time travel wasn’t real. And her key laid solitary on the bedside table just beyond the door she’d given up on trying to break into. Instead, she buckled herself in, mentally preparing for what she could melodramatically declare as the worst night ever.
“Shit,” Penelope mumbled under her breath, succumbing to the bitter cold, resenting freezing temperatures and locked doors. She huddled into herself, trying to retain warmth while thinking up a plan. That lasted all of two seconds before a figure approaching from the right caught her eye. They smelled of jasmine and smoke, an achingly familiar perfume. Penelope knew in her gut exactly who it was before they even came into view.
“What are you doing out here?” Emily asked, crease in her brow, as she stopped before the shivering figure before her. Penelope groaned.
“I left my stupid keys inside.” Emily chuckled and Penelope glared at her in return, which only made her smile widen further. And, well, Penelope couldn’t bring herself to be mad about that. Emily sighed, her exhale visible in the frigid air. After a few moments of comfortable silence, Penelope wrinkled her nose at an acrid scent wafting in from her right. She sniffed once, twice, to be sure her nose wasn’t betraying her. She turned to Emily.
“Emily Prentiss, were you smoking?” Emily grimaced as she sat down on the curb next to her, hardly a breadth of space between them.
“Don’t tell Hotch, he thinks I quit,” she answered. Penelope smirked in response. The lingering smell of cigarettes slightly sweet.
“Well, I won’t tell if you won’t,” she quipped. It made Emily smile, a flash of white against the dimly lit night. Emily shoved her hands in her jacket pockets as she settled in. Penelope shifted ever so slightly closer to her. She heard Emily’s coat rustle and convinced herself it was because the other woman was also scooting in close. That’s the reality Penelope had decided on, just for now. Just for this moment.
“I thought you all weren’t supposed to be back yet,” Penelope said, not making any sudden movements. Emily turned to face her.
“What can I say? We caught the bad guy.”
“My hero,” Penelope teased, consciously aware of the redness of her cheeks. It was just cold, that’s all. Not that Emily could say anything, a vibrant pink hue at the tips of her ears.
“Hey, you’re shivering,” Emily pointed out, concern lacing her voice. It was true, Penelope realized. She knew she was cold, but hadn’t realized just how much until that moment. Talking to Emily was like that sometimes. It made everything else, everything unpleasant, fade away.
“It’s more my hands than anything else,” Penelope reassured her. Emily didn’t look swayed. The subtle shivering Penelope was now trying to suppress didn’t help. Emily reached out; a questioning look in her eyes. Penelope cautiously pulled her hands out of her coat pockets, held them out in front of her.
Emily cupped her shaking palms, pressed them together.
“Your hands are cold,” Penelope breathed. Emily smirked, continuing on.
What Penelope didn’t mention was that when Emily’s hands wrapped around hers, Penelope felt time slow down. As though something monumental was happening. Emily glanced up once, unreadable. Slowly, she tilted her face down between the two of them and exhaled hot breaths onto Penelope’s fingers. Heating them up, one by one. The warm air puffed into her hands helped with the cold but sent an entirely different kind of shiver down Penelope’s spine. There were no words to describe what was running through her mind, through her body, at the strangely affectionate gesture. Penelope couldn’t bring it in herself to put a stop to this, though. This sudden intimate moment. Emily kept on, warming up every part of her hands.
After several heated breaths from Emily, bated breath from Penelope, time resumed at its normal pace. Penelope blinked once, twice, willing herself back into reality. Once she did, she found Emily staring at her. Not moving.
“Come back to my room. Please,” Emily softly spoke. “It’s warm there,” she explained. Penelope looked up at her, studying her features. She could never find it in herself to say no to Emily Prentiss, even when she wanted to. Good thing she wasn’t planning on refusing the offer.
“Okay,” Penelope agreed. Emily thinned her lips, a silent agreement as she stood up, Penelope’s hand still in hers. She pulled slightly to help her up. Penelope took in the sight for a second, the light from the overhang basking Emily in an ethereal glow, bringing out the subtle brown highlights in her hair. Penelope then shook her head, pushed herself off the concrete, reluctantly dropped Emily’s hand. Her palm felt empty without the weight of Emily’s in it.
Of course, Penelope was used to this feeling. Well, not this specific physical feeling. But rather the achy loneliness that came after any semi-intimate moment with Emily. If JJ could see her now, she’d be slapping her upside the head for not making a move. And normally, Penelope would. With anyone else, she totally would. She thrived on being in control, hated in-betweens and uncertainty. But that’s where she and Emily were destined to lie. In this vague gray area that Penelope wasn’t even sure the other woman was aware of.
The walk back was short and silent. Penelope could hear the whistling of the wind, feel the cold slicing into her cheek. The icy chill reaffirmed the practical decision to go to Emily’s room with her. It wasn’t just her giant, hopeless crush talking. This was a logical choice. The only choice, really.
Emily stopped in front of a faded green door, dug around in her coat for her key. Penelope felt a pang of jealousy at the flash of silver. Must be nice to have a room key. She couldn’t complain, though. Time with Emily was never a bad thing.
The two of them stamped in, kicking snow off their shoes before shedding their layers, piling coats onto an empty armchair. Penelope settled onto the bed. Full size. Roomier than most government-sanctioned motel rooms provide. Not that she had much experience traveling on cases, but this seemed like best case scenario. Well, up until she locked herself out, of course.
“Do you want to warm up a bit and then talk to the manager about letting you into your room?” Emily offered. Penelope shook her head.
“He’s gone for the night. He’ll be back in the morning,” she explained. Emily hummed. A beat passed.
“That’s kind of a stupid business practice,” Emily pointed out. Penelope laughed, Emily joining in with her.
“Yeah, it kind of is.” Penelope agreed. Emily looked around, as though mulling over options in her mind.
“Alright, you can stay with me for the night, then,” Emily said, decisive. Penelope smiled.
“Like a slumber party!”
Emily laughed. “Like a slumber party,” she affirmed, flashing Penelope a wicked smile that made the other woman’s palms sweat. Penelope suddenly felt woefully unprepared. She hated being unprepared.
“You’ll need something to change into,” Emily mentioned. “Uh…” She trailed off. Uncertain. Emily rummaged around in the black duffle before chucking a lump of fabric at Penelope’s face. Penelope chuckled before unfolding the cotton shirt, her throat suddenly dry. As though someone had sucked all the air out of the room.
This was her shirt. In Emily’s bag.
“Do you…” Penelope started, unable to finish the sentence. She wanted to ask if Emily always kept Penelope’s clothes in her go-bag, but the answer was evident here. Penelope’s presence on this case was last minute. This wasn’t planned. This was just something Emily did. Penelope felt her insides thaw out, a tingly kind of warmth creeping in. A floaty feeling. Penelope turned the shirt over in her hands. It was an old one. Oversized. Familiar. Why did Emily have it? Penelope wracked her brain for a few seconds before realization crept in.
“I gave you this when you came over to help paint my apartment,” Penelope spoke, soft. Emily looked down. She looked…sheepish. Penelope nodded, confirming her own story. “So that you wouldn’t get paint on your clothes…” She trailed off. All the memories flooding back to her.
“I’m here, and I come bearing gifts!” Emily yelled out as she let herself into Penelope’s apartment. It was the first time Emily didn’t get lost trying to find it and she was quite proud of that fact. Penelope now peered around the corner, dressed in her most ragged overalls, paintbrush in hand. She huffed a laugh when she saw what Emily was holding.
“Emily Prentiss, you better not get drunk while painting my apartment. I’m trusting you with this paintbrush,” she thrust it towards her, bristles out.
“I’m not going to drunkenly paint your apartment, don’t worry,” Emily reassured the fretting blonde as she set the bottle of wine on the counter. “I’ll only be tipsy. The drunkenness comes after.” She flashed a devilish grin. Penelope rolled her eyes, unable to be frustrated with the woman she’d grown to love. Her best friend.
“Just come help me. I’ve already started…” Penelope trailed off, gave Emily a once-over. “Please tell me you brought other clothes to change into.”
“No, I didn’t have time to stop at my place. I figured I could just borrow something from my incredible, amazing friend.” Emily laid it on thick. That same smile. Penelope could never resist that smile.
“Ugh, anything for you, my incredible, amazing, pain in my butt,” Penelope grinned, already turning around and walking towards her bedroom. She pulled out one of her drawers, rummaged through until she found a ratty old hackathon t-shirt. “Here,” Penelope called, tossing it Emily’s way. Emily just barely caught it, holding the shirt up to inspect the design. Emily laughed at what was printed on, turning it around to face Penelope and reading the saying out loud…
“Hack to the Future,” Penelope mumbled, fingers tracing over the bright blue letters.
“That’s one of my favorite memories,” Emily spoke, quiet. “I’d only been with the BAU for a few months, but you didn’t make me feel like an outsider. You became my best friend.”
Penelope felt the exact same. She’d had the inklings of a crush—since the moment they met, really—but at that point everything was still new and exciting. There was still hope. Until Penelope did something incredibly stupid, of course. She fell in love with her best friend.
“It’s one of my favorite memories, too,” Penelope breathed, clutching the shirt, thinking back to a smiling, laughing, decidedly drunk-not-tipsy Emily Prentiss with paint smeared on her cheek. It was unavoidable, really. Falling in love. But they were already cemented in their friendship by then. Penelope wouldn’t risk it. Couldn’t risk it.
“You know…” Emily started. Sighed. Penelope placed the memento beside her as she listened for her next words. “I’d never do anything to ruin that. Our friendship is too important to me,” Emily whispered. Penelope’s heartbeat pounded in her ears as Emily slowly walked closer to her, a painstaking pace. An unreadable expression. The shivers returned at the impending closeness.
“Em…” She whispered as Emily paused, standing directly in front of her. Penelope remained seated as she looked up into Emily’s eyes, basked in her gaze.
“Just,” Emily spoke. “I’m a hypocrite, okay? But let me try something…” She placed a finger under Penelope’s chin, featherlight. Penelope felt her cheeks burn at the touch. No more worries about being cold, Penelope was burning up under the scrutiny of Emily’s stare.
Penelope kept her eyes open until the last second, not wanting to forget a thing. Emily did the same, only closing her eyes once she had closed the gap. At that small brush of lips, Penelope thought her heart was going to burst out of her chest, fracturing every piece of her until she was a jagged mess at Emily’s feet. But that didn’t happen. Instead, the slightest spark of static electricity when Emily placed her other hand on Penelope’s leg—for balance—propelled her into motion. Penelope lifted her palms up to cradle Emily’s face, thumbs tracing over her cheekbones as she returned the kiss, eagerly.
Emily tasted like cigarette smoke and the mints she carried to hide the smell on her breath, but Penelope couldn't bring herself to care. The two moved in tandem, finding an easy rhythm. Gentle, slow, desperate. It never progressed any further, but Penelope held on tight, trying to convey every overwhelming, passionate emotion into their kiss. Emily slid her hand from Penelope’s chin down to where her neck met her shoulder. Penelope shivered at the touch, the cold hand on her neck, before moving to grip Emily’s waist. Penelope attempted to drag her down even closer despite the awkward angle. She couldn’t bear the thought of letting Emily go.
Emily held firm on Penelope’s thigh, shaky in her balancing act. It wasn’t enough though, as the kiss was broken by Emily falling on top of Penelope, an ungraceful oof as she landed in the other woman’s lap. Emily caught her gaze, and all was silent for just a moment before the pair burst out into laughter. Uncontrollable, tear-inducing laughter. Penelope helped pull her further onto the bed, so the two sat side by side. She continued giggling at the ridiculousness of the situation, watching Emily’s face light up as she did the same.
Penelope couldn’t help but be in awe of the woman before her, the radiant sense of comfort she felt in Emily’s presence. She thought she was in for a cold, lonely night ahead, but Emily Prentiss defied expectations. She disseminated an easy warmth that melted even the coldest tundras, the largest glaciers. It might just melt Penelope’s heart.
The giggles slowly faded, giddiness with it. Eventually the pair laid down together on the bed, facing each other. Penelope intertwined their hands. She was determined to hold on to this moment. Hold onto Emily. They stayed like this, comfortably quiet, just savoring the moment and each other.
“As much as I would love to keep doing…this,” Emily gestured between the two of them with their linked hands. “We should probably get some sleep. Early start tomorrow. We can ask the manager to let you into your room then.” Emily went to get up, fingers slowly stretching out.
Penelope didn’t let go of Emily, though. Emily sent her a questioning look but didn’t make any further moves to pull away. Penelope looked down, up.
“Your hands feel good in mine,” She mumbled. Emily beamed in response, brought up their joined hands, kissed Penelope’s knuckles. She broke out into a grin.
“Your hands feel good in mine?” Emily teased, no malice in her tone. Penelope let go of one hand to swat her on the arm, playful.
“Yes. And my hands are cold!” Penelope whined.
“So are mine!” Emily laughed, settled back into her space as she squeezed their hands once, twice. Eventually, they’d have to get up. Get ready for bed. Talk about what all of this means. But right now? It could wait. All that mattered were Emily’s hands in Penelope’s. The gleeful expressions on their faces. Penelope was suddenly grateful for locking herself out. Who needed a key to their own motel room when you could share one with your best friend? In this moment, Penelope decided that maybe tonight wasn’t the worst night ever. Cold hands, warm hearts, and maybe—just maybe—it was the start of something beautiful.

hospital visit- addison montgomery
Tumblr media
summary: it’s your birthday but you’re stuck in hospital after surgery. luckily, addison is there to make your day better
word count: 587
warnings: pregnancy, mentions of surgery
pairing: addison montgomery x afab!reader
a/n: this is my submission for @sweetprentiss birthday bingo!
your eyes fluttered open to the rhythmic beeping of your heart monitor, still groggy from surgery. you glanced around the bland hospital room, discovering it empty, just how it was when you had gone under. you sighed, placing your hand on your bloated bump where your baby would be residing for the next couple weeks seeing as the surgery went well. you looked at the time, 4:17 am.
great. stuck in a hospital alone for my birthday, you thought as you threw your head back in annoyance.
you’d been in and out of the hospital for weeks after discovering an issue with your baby. thankfully, your doctor, dr. montgomery, said it was an easy fix and if all went well, you and your baby would make a speedy recovery. you were lucky to have a doctor as good as her. she was not only a good surgeon, but she also took the time out of her day to come talk to you. you often found yourself thinking about her, but that was only natural considering she was one of the only people you’d see everyday, right?
you sighed once again, bringing your focus back to the real world. you looked over at the doorway, where someone was leaning, your heart rate spiking for a second before you recognized the shadow as dr. montgomery.
“dr. montgomery, what’re you doing here?” you asked, your voice raspy from not having used it for a while.
“i just got out of a surgery, i thought i’d come check in on my favourite patient,” she joked, taking a seat next to you.
“aww,” you said, throwing your hands over your heart.
“happy birthday,” she said, taking you by surprise.
“how’d you know?” you asked.
“it’s on your chart,” she laughed, holding the clipboard up for you to see.
“oh,” you smiled.
“i hope you don’t mind, i got you something,” she spoke gently, handing you a small bag that she had hidden under your bed.
“you didn’t have to,” you smiled.
you carefully took the paper out to reveal a box of chocolates and a small teddy bear.
“the bear’s for the, um, baby,” she began, her cheeks slowly turning red, “and you can eat the chocolate in a couple days, gives you something to look forward to.”
“thank you,” you said, sitting up slightly and opening your arms for her to hug you, which she did.
when you pulled apart, her cheeks were very flushed and she was awkwardly diverting her eyes from you. she cleared her throat, trying to get rid of some of the new tension.
“it’s really good chocolate,” she said, her voice weak.
“not that i had any of that one. i’ve eaten it before, my own box. wait, i- i didn’t buy it for myself, that would be kind of sad, i had it given to me and i liked it so i bought one for you because you told me you loved chocolate. so, um,” she stuttered nervously, fidgeting with her fingers.
“thank you, dr. montgomery. i appreciate it,” you said, beginning to get all mushy from the attention (and hormones).
“please, call me addison,” she said.
“okay, addison,” you said, as if testing how the word sounded coming out of your mouth.
“i have to ask, do you do this for all your patients?” you asked.
“just my favourite,” she winked, causing you to laugh.
you opened your arms again, and she leaned in to give you a hug, though she was careful not to hurt you. just as she pulled away, you grabbed ahold of her shirt and pulled her towards you. your lips collided and at first she seemed shocked but quickly reciprocated the action. she put her hands on your cheeks to deepen the kiss for a moment before pulling away.
“isn’t there some kind of rule against doctor-patient stuff?” you laughed, now realizing what you had done.
“maybe, but you won’t be my patient in a couple days,” she shrugged, a smile adorning her features.
she placed a short kiss on your lips before getting up and leaving. she stopped right at the doorframe and turned around to face you once more.
“i’ll come check in on you again later, kay?”

Tumblr media
Hello friends! I'm back again with some friends to lovers smut with plot for youuu! And just in time (barely!) for @sweetprentiss 's birthday bingo: friends to lovers, affectionate teasing, and "I can't concentrate when you look at me like that"
Description: You and the team are staying in a hotel, snowed in for the night. The sexual tension between you and Emily is so incredibly thick, and it takes some worda of encouragement and some liquid courage from the hotel bar/lounge for you two to finally do something about it.
Rating: E +18 there is cursing and sex
Word count: 5, 850 (holy shit I didn't realize it was this long I'm so sorry but I think it's totally worth it (and mostly dialogue so it should be pretty easy to read)???)
Tagging: @ssaagentemilyprentiss @themoontaxi @dalexandriag16 @its-soph-xx @leftoverenvy @bloodmagicbaby
---
A cold gust of air blows through the automatic sliding doors and into the lobby of the hotel you and the team are staying at for your current assignment. Despite already having caught the unsub and closing the case earlier that day, you all have to stay one more night in Ohio due to a snowstorm that grounded all flights for the evening.
“Cold, cold, cold, cold, cold!” You chant as you rush past the team to get further inside the lobby.
“Oh come on now, Y/L/n! It’s not even that bad yet!” Derek calls after you.
“Not that bad? YET?!” You exclaim. “Morgan, I can’t feel my fingers! Or my toes!” You complain.
“Don’t worry, Y/n. Once we get to our room, we’ll crank the heater up.” Emily says.
“Are we gonna cuddle to keep warm?” You ask teasingly. Emily playfully rolls her eyes at you.
“You know what always warms me up?” Rossi asks.
“Scotch.” Spencer answers.
Rossi nods, “Would anyone care to join me at the bar over there?” There’s a lounge with a small bar located on the ground floor of the hotel, it’s entrance to the left of the front desk.
"Oh absolutely! What’dya think, Jayje?" Penelope asks, linking arms with JJ.
The petite blonde shrugs her shoulders, “Might as well, but I want to head to the room first to change into something warmer and less... worky.”
“I’ll join you Rossi, as long as you're buying!” Emily teases, grinning from ear to ear.
Dave scowls, “Is that all I’m good for? Buying you booze?”
Derek chuckles, “Nah, Rossi. You buy us dinner too, and for that we are grateful!” He claps Rossi on the back before guiding him towards the elevator.
“Ah, screw you, children.” Dave grumbles.
Once you're all piled into the elevator, you speak up, “You guys need to stop taking advantage of Rossi’s generosity and abundance of wealth!”
Rossi looks down at you, “Thank you?”
“Then why don’t you buy me a beer, Y/n?” Emily asks, wrapping an arm around your shoulders.
You scoff, “Why don’t you buy your own drinks for once, Em?”
The elevator bell dings and the metal doors open. You all shuffle out into the hallway and begin making your way to your rooms.
“I’m too pretty to buy my own drinks.” Emily says, playfully flipping her hair.
You roll your eyes, “You’re incorrigible.”
“Yeah,” Emily says as she unlocks and opens the door to your shared room, “But you can’t deny that it’s true.”
“What’s true?” You ask.
“That I’m too pretty to buy my own drinks.”
You laugh, “I do think you’re pretty...” you say after shrugging your bag off your shoulder, it lands with a thump on the floor next to one of the beds, claiming your side. “Pretty full of yourself.”
Emily's jaw drops and she scoffs, “Excuse me?”
“You heard me.” You challenge back.
“You wanna go?” Emily playfully threatens, a huge grin on her face.
You grin, “Oh sure! Shall we go outside and fight in the snow till one of us gets frostbite? Or is a pillow fight more your speed?” With that being said, you feel something large and soft hit your back before falling to the floor. You stand still, slowly turning your head to look over your shoulder. “Oh, you did not just do that.”
Emily grabs another pillow from her bed and hugs it to her chest, “Well I did. What are you gonna do about it?”
“Nothing, because I wanna finish unpacking my- ow!” Another pillow is thrown at you, hitting you in the face this time.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry!” Emily’s apology gets lost in her laughter.
You glare, “Oh you’re so going down.” You grab a pillow from the ground and clutch it tightly in your hands, holding it up. You nod at the other pillow on the ground, “Pick it up.”
She leans down to pick up the pillow and you decide it’s the perfect opportunity to attack. The pillow hits Emily’s side with a thwack, and the brunette shouts, “Hey, not fair!”
You stare down at your friend and grin, “Life ain’t fair, Prentiss.”
The two of you begin to chase each other around the small hotel room, giggling and cursing as you hit each other with your fluffy weapons. That is until there’s a moment of surrender.
Emily’s got you cornered, you’re laying on your bed, pillowless. She’s got one of your legs pinned under her knee as she towers over you with her pillow raised. “Any last words?”
You gaze up at her, smirking. “Despite the fact that you’re about to smite me with a hotel pillow, I can’t stop staring at your tits.” You reach up and hook the collar of her v-neck sweater and pull before releasing it, the fabric bouncing back against her chest.
Emily’s lips part, emitting a small gasp. She lowers her pillow, her dark eyes scanning your face. You feel your cheeks start to warm up as you lay still beneath her. You love teasing her like that, knowing it catches her off guard. You’re grateful that Penelope taught you some tricks on how to up your flirting game, the tech analyst being an expert in your eyes.
“You... Damn you! Stop looking at me like that!”
“Like what?”
“You’re trying too hard to look all cute and shit.”
“I think the person who is trying too hard at anything right now, is you.”
You’re staring at each other now, challenging each other. You’re internally begging for Emily to make a move, to toss the pillow to the side and pin your hands down and just kiss you! But you watch as she sighs and shakes her head. In moments like this one, even she can’t ignore how absolutely mad with lust you both can be, but you both have been trying your best to pretend that it’s just the flirty and teasing nature of your friendship. Though you are getting pretty tired of pretending.
“Shut up, Y/n.” Emily says with a smirk, suddenly dropping the pillow she’s been holding onto your face and climbing off the bed.
You sigh dramatically, tossing the pillow over towards Emily's side of the hotel room. “You’re no fun.” You grumble, which causes Emily to look over her shoulder with an arched brow. A threatening look, a warning.
“I’m a lot of fun, and you know it.”
A string of knocks on your door startles you, you and Emily looking over at the door. “Who is it?” You shout.
“It’s me and JJ!” You hear Penelope exclaim from the other side of the door. You brush past Emily on your way to the door, the brunette following close behind you.
“What are you guys doing in there?” JJ asks as you open the door.
It takes you a second to realize why she’s asking that question, which is probably because of the noise level coming from your room just a few minutes ago. “Oh, Emily hit me with a pillow. Two pillows, actually. So, I was enacting my revenge.”
You glance up at Emily to find her nodding before she smirks and speaks, “Yeah, but I won.”
“Only because you gave up!” You argue.
“Did not!”
“Did too!”
“Emily, stop being mean to Y/n! Friends don't hit friends with pillows!” Penelope exclaims, wagging her finger at the woman in question.
"Isn't that the whole point of having a pillow fight at a sleepover?" JJ says, crossing her arms and smirking.
“But I-” Emily tries to defend herself, but you quickly interrupt her.
“Em, you heard the Oracle! Stop being mean to me.” You tease.
Emily's jaw dropped, "Oh come on! Y/n was being mean to me too! She was playing dirty!”
Penelope playfully pouts, “Awww, how could this precious little cutie pie be mean to you, Emily?” She coos as she cups your face with both hands and squishes your cheeks, reminding you of when you'd visit your great aunt when you were little.
“Oh, I didn't fall for her set-up." You answer.
JJ looks at Emily with a raised brow, "Set-up?"
Emily pokes her tongue out to lick the corner of her mouth and shrugs, "I was trying to get her to compliment me, but she decided to be an asshole instead."
"Oh, she admits it!" You say as you turn around to look up at Emily. "You know, I did call you pretty, technically. Then you threatened me!" As soon as your sentence ends your chest begins to feel tight, locking eyes with the woman before you, the tension growing between you and Emily once more. But with two pairs of eyes on you, you clear your throat and begin to walk out into the hallway. "Come on, girls. Let’s see if we beat the guys to the bar."
---
You, Emily, Penelope, and JJ are indeed the first ones to arrive at the hotel bar. Emily ends up buying you a cranberry and whiskey cocktail as an apology for instigating the pillow fight, you gladly accept it. Penelope starts animatedly chatting with Emily about her Buffy the Vampire Slayer rewatch, knowing that the show is one of Emily’s favorites. This leaves an opportunity for JJ to pull you aside and strike up a conversation.
“So, you two are relieving your sexual tension with pillow fights now?” JJ asks, the blonde has been in the know about your feelings for your best friend and fellow agent, so the question doesn’t come as a surprise.
You sigh, “Emily started it! JJ, what was I supposed to do? Not fight back?”
“Did you two have another ‘almost’ moment?” JJ asks, she refers to the moments where you and Emily ‘almost’ cross the line between friendship and more.
You nod in response, looking down at your shoes as you nibble on your bottom lip. “She had me pinned, and I made a comment about how her tits looked good, and she just... sighed. And dropped the pillow on my face. I don’t know, Jayje. I’m trying so hard to flirt and tease and get her to- oh, I don’t know. Cave? The ice is so incredibly thin, and I think something is going to happen. Soon. I can’t handle being in the same room as her without my brain going ‘oh my god she's so pretty I want her so bad’ like... All. The. Time.”
JJ’s laughing at you, your exaggerated comical retelling of your inner thoughts often makes her and the others laugh. “You’ve got it sooo bad, Y/n.”
"Yo!” A man’s voice hollers. “Y'all were having a pillow fight? And you didn't invite me?" Derek says as he approaches where you and the girls are seated on barstools.
You roll your eyes, "Alright, who told Morgan?" You lock eyes with Penelope who clamps her lips together and slowly slides her phone back into her purse.
“Invite you? Why, so you can film it?” Emily jokes. The innuendo catches you off guard as you take a sip of your drink, causing you to almost choke.
Derek grins, “Maybe you guys needed a referee?”
You clear your throat and look over at Derek, “For what? To make sure we keep it a fair fight? We’re just hitting each other with fluffy hotel pillows, Morgan.”
“Hey now, trust me. Damage can be done. People can get hurt pretty easily if you’re not careful.” The man says before ordering a couple drinks, probably one for him and one for Reid.
JJ smirks, “Sounds like you have some personal experience.”
Morgan smacks his lips together, “My sister got a concussion because I smacked her so hard she tripped and fell, and BOOM, hit her head on the dresser.”
Penelope gasps, "Derek, how could you!" She exclaims.
Emily chuckles and takes a sip from her beer, “Yikes, I bet your mom was pissed.”
You look back towards the lobby, "Is Reid coming?"
Derek shakes his head, "Nah, he found some old movie on TV so he's totally engrossed. He says hi, though."
Penelope places a hand over her heart, "Aww, he's so precious."
A couple minutes later Dave approaches. You all greet the old man enthusiastically. "Hey, the life of the party has finally arrived!" Emily cheers.
Dave smiles and shakes his head, “Please tell me someone has ordered for me already.”
“Got you right here, my man.” Derek says, gesturing to a glass of amber liquid sitting on the bartop.
“Thanks, kid.” Rossi says, grabbing his drink and sipping it slowly.
You watch as JJ walks over to one of the sofas in the lounge and sits, and Emily follows, calling after her. They both sit, Emily’s hand landing on JJ’s back as they chat with each other. You sigh, taking a few swigs of your beer. You’re too focused on Emily to notice that Penelope is now standing next to you, sipping her vodka soda through the tiny red stir straw that came in the glass. She glances between you and Emily, a huge grin forming on her face.
"Y/n... Y/n? Sugar?” Penelope calls, but it isn’t until she waves her hand over your face that you break your gaze.
“Oh shit, sorry Pen. What’s up?"
"You're staring at her again."
"Who?"
"Our sexy smart brunette over there. How’s that going by the way? The tension between you two is so...” Penelope doesn’t finish her sentence using words and instead wriggles her eyebrows. It makes you laugh.
“I’ve been a lot more bold, I guess, when it comes to flirting with her. Like, earlier? During our pillow fight? I-”
“I know. The boobies. And she told you to shut up. A classic Emily Prentiss deflection.”
“Wait- she told you?” You ask, surprised yet also not surprised at the same time by the fact that Emily told Penelope what had happened.
Penelope grins and nods, “Yeah! And I’m very proud of you, that was so good!”
“Oh, well-uh... thanks, Garcia.” You say, offering the tech analyst a closed lip smile. “I just... I wish that either of us would finally do it, ya know?
“Like, do it-do it?” Penelope asks, wiggling her brows yet again.
“No! Well, kinda? What I mean is, I want us to finally take that step towards doing something more- towards being something more. I can’t continue to play games with her, Pen. I’m getting too frustrated. And I’m trying so hard to express how much I want her, but she just... she won’t go for it. And I’m starting to think that... maybe she doesn’t want me.”
"Oh trust me, Emily totally wants to jump your bones.”
You scoff, “Yeah? Then why hasn’t she? I’m ready and willing!”
"I know, sunshine.” Penelope pats and rubs your shoulder, the pet name she just used making your chest flutter since it’s your favorite. “But you gotta be patient just a little bit longer. It’ll be worth it, I promise.”
All you can do is sigh, your shoulders slump. “If you say so.”
“A little liquid courage could be just what you two need. Have a couple more drinks- or here, better yet.” Penelope whistles and calls JJ and Emily over. “Ladies! We’re doing shots! Come join us!” The two women make their way over to where you and Penelope are standing at the bar.
“Can I get in on this too?” Derek asks, following behind Emily and JJ.
“Sure, my sweet sculpted Adonis! What about you, Rossi?” Penelope asks as she looks past Derek at Dave, who is sitting in an armchair across the room.
He shakes his head, “Nah, shots are for kids.”
“Says the man drinking what is basically a shot of scotch from a whiskey glass.” Emily says.
“Bah, whatever.” The older man grumbles, waving his hand to dismiss Emily’s remark.
---
Later that night, you and Emily stumble into your hotel room, arms linked, both of you have the giggles.
“So, that was fun, yeah?" She asks, slipping out of your grasp and walking past you into the room.
You nod as the door shuts behind you, you lean back against it. "Maybe too much fun, I'm feelin' pretty... tips-unk."
Emily laughs, "Tips-unk? Is that supposed to be a combination of tipsy and drunk?"
"Yeah!” You say, walking further into the room and towards Emily. “Because I'm more than tipsy, but not, like, drunk yet." You explain as you sit on the edge of your bed and pull off your shoes. You're not paying much attention to your roommate, who is standing and leaning on the small desk in the room, trying to unzip her boots but seems to be having a bit of trouble with one of the zippers.
“Having trouble?” You ask, take a few steps toward Emily.
“Yeah, the stupid thing is caught on the other stupid thing.”
You nod, lowering yourself to kneel on the ground. “Here, let me see.” You fidget with the zipper on Emily’s left boot, trying to get it back on its track in order for it to unzip. You're concentrating on the task at hand, so much so that you don’t notice Emily beginning to strip herself of her sweater. Emily’s hands land on your shoulders, holding herself up. Once you get the zipper unstuck, you go ahead and unzip the other boot for her, then pat her ankles to tell her to slip her feet out.
She begins unbuckling her belt, right in front of your face, and all you can do is stare dumbly as her long fingers fiddle with the latch and pull the leather strip from the buckle. You look up at her, your lips parted and eyes wide, and by the look on her face, that devilish grin, she totally knows what kind of effect her action has on you.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Emily asks, teasingly.
“I should be asking you the same question.” You tease back.
“You can get up off your knees, you know.” Emily says as she slowly slips her belt out of the loops of her jeans.
“Should I?” You ask, your hands once again landing on her ankles and begin moving up her legs. Once you reach her knees, you’re surprised that she hasn’t stopped you yet. You decide to keep your hand right above her knees, not daring to move them up any further.
Emily wraps her belt around her hand, gathering the strap into a tightly wound circle. “You’re... incorrigible.” She says, her voice sounding lustful and you can’t help but doubt your ears when you hear it.
“Yeah, but... you can’t deny that you like it.”
“Like what, exactly?”
“Me being on my knees for you.”
Emily places her belt onto the hotel desk before reaching down to pet your hair. You remain still, not sure what she’s going to do, but knowing that whatever she does and however she touches you will be welcomed and accepted. She threads her fingers into your hair, scratching at your scalp, and suddenly she lightly tugs at your roots. It makes you gasp and grip her thighs, your nails digging into the denim fabric of her pants. Your reaction makes her chuckle, but not a lighthearted chuckle, it’s the kind of chuckle that makes you feel extremely nervous and intimidated. Emily Prentiss is plotting something, and she’s clearly enjoying the effect she has on you.
“Stand up, silly girl.” She commands, ruffling your hair before removing her hand from your hair and stepping back, causing you to let go of her legs.
You hold one of your hands up towards Emily, “Help me up, please.” Emily grabs it and pulls you up, but the level of strength she uses to bring you to your feet so quickly suddenly makes you lightheaded. You stumble forward, colliding into Emily and bumping your chin against her collarbone. “Woah! Sorry, Em!”
“No worries. I got you. Here, sit down.” Emily guides you over to her bed, pushing you to sit down. You fall back and collapse on the mattress, closing your eyes to stop the room from spinning. Emily straddles your hips and begins unbuttoning your cardigan. Her fingers pop open the buttons one by one at an agonizingly slow pace. All you can focus on is how warm the apex of Emily’s thighs are as she remains seated across your lap. Your hands land on the tops of her thighs and they slide up and down, occasionally lightly squeezing Emily’s flesh. You notice that every time you squeeze her thighs, her hips grind down against you, ever so slightly.
“Emily?” You ask hesitantly, watching her as she pulls open your cardigan and places her hands on your abdomen, right below your breasts which are still covered by the t-shirt you’ve been wearing underneath. You take a deep breath in and your chest rises, and Emily’s hands move down towards the top of your jeans untucking the fabric of your t-shirt and pulling it up your stomach.
“Yes?” Emily asks, her brown eyes finally glancing up to meet yours after concentrating on undressing you. She reaches behind her back, underneath her tank top, and unhooks her bra. One of the straps slides down and Emily manages to pull it down further to slip her arm out, and then pulls the garment through the arm hole on the other side. It gets tossed onto the floor, you hear it land with a soft thump.
“What-uh... what are you doing?” You whisper in the dimly lit room, realizing that your eyes haven’t left her chest since she started removing her bra. There are goosebumps spread across the tops of her breasts and her nipples are poking through the thin fabric of her tank top. Your hands are now on Emily’s waist, extremely tempted to travel further up to touch her chest, but you stop yourself and instead squeeze her sides as your hips buck up against hers.
Emily laughs, grabbing your hands and removing them from her body. “What are you doing?”
You frown, shaking your head. “I asked you first.” Bucking your hips again, you gaze up at Emily, who bites her bottom lip and lets out a breathy moan that she tries to disguise with a halfhearted laugh.
“Tough.” She says, suddenly leaning forward to lay her body on top of yours, her breasts squishing against your own. Her hands pin yours down onto the mattress. You begin to squirm underneath her. She’s playing dirty, and if you had any ounce of strength to hold yourself together you’d confront her on it, you’d push her off of you or at least flip her over. But you don’t. You’re pinned underneath the woman who you’re so desperate for that your entire body feels like it’s on fire when she touches you. When she looks at you the way she is right now: long dark eyelashes fluttering, ruby lips parted, her pink tongue swiping over her bottom lip; you’re completely and pathetically helpless.
“Kiss me.” You command, leaning your head up to try and nuzzle your nose against hers, to try and get as close to her mouth as possible.
One of Emily’s hands lets go of yours and grips your chin, her mouth widening into a grin, the same devilish grin from earlier. “Tell me how badly you want me to kiss you, and I’ll kiss you.”
“I... I...” You groan in frustration, “I can't concentrate when you look at me like that!”
“Then close your eyes.” She whispers, her thumb grazing over your bottom lip. When you try to wrap your lips around it, she pulls it away.
"Emily, I swear to god!” You exclaim, your frustration boiling into anger. With one of your hands now free, you push Emily back and sit up, forcing Emily to climb off of your lap and stand at the edge of the bed. “If you keep playing games with me and teasing me like this, I’m gonna lose my shit! Why? Why do we keep doing this? Flirting and lusting after each other, if you don’t want to finally do something about how much I want you. I. Want. You. And by the way you look at me, how you touch me... I mean, come on Em! You want me too, don’t you? Or else this is getting pretty fucked up, and I’m tired of being this pathetically into you if you don’t-”
“I want you too! I want you, I do! I want to kiss you and touch you and fuck you so incredibly much that it’s all I think about when we’re alone together! I’m crazy about you, Y/n!”
“Yeah? Then come here, so we can finally-” Emily doesn’t wait for you to finish your sentence. She climbs into your lap once more and grabs your face, bringing you into a searing kiss. Your arms wrap around her waist and you hold her close, kissing her back with as much passion as you can muster.
---
“I can’t believe we’re finally doing this.”
“Me too.”
Clothes are taken off and thrown haphazardly around the room, leaving the two of you topless and in your underwear, grinding against each other in Emily’s bed. You’re on top of Emily, riding her thigh as her mouth licks, kisses, and nips at your bare chest.
“Fuck, that feels so good. You feel so fucking good” You moan out as Emily grips your ass tightly and brings you down to grind harder on her thigh. Her tongue flicks and swipes over your hardened nipple, then she sucks on it hard, making you squeal and tug on her hair.
She pulls away, laughing lightly. "Just wait till I put my mouth on your pussy, and my fingers slip inside you.” Her statement makes you whimper and you begin to desperately hump her thigh. “I can feel how wet you're getting, rubbing on my thigh like that."
And with that being said, you grab Emily's hand and guide it between your legs. "Do you want to feel how wet I am for you? Do you want to touch me, Emily? Touch me, baby. Please."
Emily’s hand boldly cups your pussy over your underwear, her fingers flexing against your soaked cotton covered folds. “Mmm, you’re fucking ready for me, aren’t you?” She asks, peppering your neck with kisses. All you can do is nod, grinding against her hand. “Then lay down on your back for me, baby.”
You flip onto your back and Emily pulls your underwear down your legs before grabbing a hold of both your knees and pulling your legs apart. Her eyes scan your now completely naked body. “Like what you see?” You ask. You already have small bite marks and hickeys on your chest, and one on your neck that you’re hoping you can hide from the rest of the team with a turtleneck you had packed in your go-bag.
Emily nods, grazing her fingertips from your chest down your stomach, over your hips and down your thighs. You shudder at the contact squirming on your back. You watch Emily as she shifts to lay on her stomach, leaning down to press sloppy open mouth kisses to your hips and inner thighs. “Emily, please.” You buck your hips up and whine.
“I’m taking my time.” She says simply.
You roll your eyes and thread your fingers into her hair, trying to pull her face to where you want it the most. Emily chuckles at your action, and just when you think she’s gonna fight you and continue teasing you, her tongue licks a long stripe over your pussy and her mouth envelopes it. Her lips wrap around your clit and suck, her tongue flicking and lapping it. Your back arches off the bed and your head is thrown back, pressing hard into the pillow under it. The wet slurping sounds coming from Emily eating you out makes your head feel fuzzy. You’re already panting, whimpering, gasping for air. Emily’s mouth is relentless, and her hands wrap around your thighs to keep your legs spread apart.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck, Emily! How the hell are you so good at this?”
“Better than you thought I’d be?”
“I’ve dreamt about this way too much and I think I’m just so fucking relieved that this isn’t a- ohhh fuck, yes baby, just like that!” The tip of Emily’s tongue is slipping past your folds and sinking into your hole, dabbing in and out. “I want your fingers, I want you inside me so bad. Please Emily, please fuck me!”
“You’re so fucking hot when you beg. Do it more.”
“No. I’m tired of waiting.”
“Oh my goodness, what a little brat you’re being!”
“You’re a goddamn tease!”
“Are you sure about that?” Two of Emily’s fingers suddenly enter you, sliding inside so easily it only takes a second for the entire length of her fingers to be inside you. They curl deeply inside you, rubbing around to find your g-spot. By the reaction you have when she touches a certain spot, you gasping and nodding your head, she repeats her action. “There it is. You like that, honey? Does that feel good?”
“Yes! Yes, yes that feels so- mmm, so good.”
“Good. Good girl.” Emily’s fingers slip in and out of your pussy at a quick rough pace, which absolutely blows your mind and makes your eyes roll back into your head.
“Oh fuck, oh holy mother of- fuuuck! Emily!” You play with your breasts as Emily fucks you with her fingers, pinching and twisting your nipples, grabbing handfuls of fatty flesh, kneading and squeezing.
“I wanna make you cum so bad, Y/n. How can I make you cum, baby?”
“Just. Keep. Doing that. But slower. And harder. And I need- I need my clit touched.”
Emily follows your instructions, slowing her fingers yet each thrust being stronger. And she leans back down to press her tongue flat against your clit, using the combination of tongue and lips to lick and suck on your sensitive bundle of nerves. Your hips rock against Emily’s hand, and your throat releases little grunts and groans as you close your eyes and enjoy the overwhelming pleasure you’re feeling.
Pretty soon you’re gripping the fleece blankets of the bed tightly and Emily is giving her all into bringing you to the edge. You look down and watch as the muscles in her shoulders and back flex and shift, admiring the sheen of sweat on her creamy skin. You can’t believe how incredibly sexy this woman is, and you’re incredibly impressed and in awe of her skills in bed. You’re so close to coming, and Emily is doing such an incredible job giving you all the pleasure you can receive. Her pace suddenly quickens, and the pleasure is so overwhelming that you’re about to orgasm in a matter of seconds.
“Oh fuck yes! Yes! Yes! I’m cumming, I’m cummming, I’m cumming- OHHH GODDD.” You grip your breasts and claw at the blankets, letting out a guttural groan as your whole body shudders. A hot tight tension in your abdomen relaxes, and the euphoria flushes over you.
“Holy shit. Holy shit. Holy shit.” That’s all you can say as you try to calm your breathing. Emily crawls up your body, kissing you passionately, her tongue passing your lips and dancing with yours. You can taste yourself, and you moan as you suck on her tongue. It’s your favorite thing to do after a partner eats you out, and by Emily’s reaction, grinding her hips to press her pubic bone against your pussy, you learn that Emily likes it too.
You graze your nails up and down her back as you both begin to relax in each other’s arms, lazily making out. Emily Prentiss is such a good kisser. Powerful, magical, and hungry.
“That was so fucking hot.” Emily finally says when her mouth disconnects from yours, her nose nuzzling against yours.
“Agreed.” You whisper against her lips. “Do you regret waiting so long?”
Emily laughs, “Honestly? Yeah. We could’ve been doing this weeks ago!”
“What is wrong with us?” You say with a laugh.
“Well for me, it’s the building anticipation. Like... I knew that when we finally fucked, it would be the most desperate and hot fucking we’d ever experience.”
“Are you saying it won’t be like this again?” You ask, pouting your lips. “Because now I have high expectations.”
“Hmmm...” Emily hums, kissing your cheek. “I personally promise to please you however you want. And whenever you want... within reason.”
You grin, “Sounds good to me. But... how can I return the favor?” You ask, your hand slipping between Emily’s thighs.
She moans softly at the contact, closing her eyes and biting down on her bottom lip. When she opens her eyes again, her pupils are blown. “Put in the same amount of effort into fucking me as I do fucking you. Deal?”
You nod your head, “I can most certainly do that.” You push Emily by her shoulders to get off of you, “Now, Prentiss. Get on your back. I’ve been dying to know what you taste like.”
Emily laughs as she lands on her back, immediately pulling you into a kiss. As she kisses and nibbles on your ear, you look out of the corner of your eye at the time the hotel alarm clock is displaying. You and Emily are supposed to be on the jet home in four hours. You decide that you two will probably nap on the ride back to Virginia, and that you’re going to fuck Emily until the sun begins to rise. Because you want to continue kissing, touching, and fucking each other for as long as you’re able. Physical exhaustion be damned.
---
“Good morning, my lovelies!” Penelope cheers when you and Emily finally walk into the hotel lobby. You both are so exhausted, and your bodies are sore. But the uncomfortableness is so, so incredibly worth it.
“Hey, PG.” Emily grumbles. She has her arm wrapped around your shoulder as you both shuffle closer towards the team with your go-bags in hand.
JJ grins, “Long night?”
From the looks on the girls’ faces, you come to the understanding that they know just how long of a night you and Emily had.
Emily nods, “Very long night. Couldn’t sleep.”
You smirk and nod, “Right. We’re napping on the plane. Right, Em?”
“Mmmhmm.” Emily hums.
As you and the rest of the team walk out of the hotel, a cold gust of wind hits you and you shiver.
“Here, sugar. I got you.” Penelope calls out, wrapping her arms around you as Emily walks further ahead. As soon as Emily’s out of earshot, the tech analyst smacks your shoulder. “Was it worth keeping me and JJ up too?”
You chuckle, looking up towards Emily, who looks back behind her shoulder and winks at you. Your mouth forms into a grin so wide it makes your cheeks hurt. “Definitely. Definitely worth it.”

you have my heart, so don't hurt me (you're what i couldn't find) -- Emily Prentiss x gn!Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: you and emily have been best friends for a while now, so when you show back up to work after breaking your ribs in an unsub-related car accident, she is the only one who isn't coddling you. after a full day of affectionate banter, she invites you back to her house for your weekly movie night and confessions are made in the chilly night air. bingo prompts: affectionate teasing, "it's not as bad as it looks", and "your hand feels good in mine"
Warnings: mention of food, body pain, lighthearted teasing.
Word Count: 2.5k
AO3
"It's not as bad as it looks," you said, hobbling into the BAU, arm wrapped around your midsection to try and alleviate some of the pain radiating through your broken ribs. Bruises were covering your arms and torso, a couple stretching up onto your face and coloring your eyelid a shade of red that otherwise would have been a cute eyeshadow. Garcia had met you at the door, already fussing over you and making you feel like a small child who had fallen on the playground. The rest of the team met you with stares, as well, when you made your way to your desk.
"Are you sure? Because you're limping and covered in bruises, kid," Morgan said, raising an eyebrow at you. You huffed in his direction and threw your bag onto your desk, wincing as you did so.
"Leave the rookie alone, Morgan, not all of us can handle driving creatively," Emily said with a smirk, making you laugh a little. A few days previous, you had gotten stuck driving one of the SUVs during a car chase and the unsub had run you off the road, causing a plethora of injuries.
"I don't think driving creatively is part of the training course, Em. I think that's just your excuse for being a shitty driver," you volleyed back, making the older woman clutch at her chest and audibly blow air out of her pursed lips.
"Ouch, you wound me," Emily said, smiling at the lighthearted teasing that had been part of your dynamic since the first day you walked into the BAU.
"You love me anyway," you said, blowing a kiss in her direction. She caught it and pulled it into her heart, making a kissy noise back at you before turning back to the file open on her desk.
There had always been something extra in your relationship with Emily, your. friendship always bordering on something more. Neither of you had made a move to act on the feelings that so palpably swirled between the two of you. You weren't sure what held Emily back from making a move but you were terrified of losing her if things didn't work out. So, instead, you enjoyed the flirty, lighthearted friendship that the two of you shared.
"You got any plans tonight, speed racer?" Emily asked from across the desk at the end of the day as she twirled her pen between her fingers. On her last twirl, however, she accidentally flung it in the air, smacking you square in the forehead. She choked on the air trying to suppress a laugh, pulling a hand to her mouth and shrugging her shoulders around her ears.
You scrunched your nose and rubbed at your forehead, glad that none of your bruising reached that far up your face.
"Jesus, Em, I knew you were a good shot but maybe you could not place your targets right on my forehead, yeah?" you said, giving Emily a pointed glare.
"What can I say, I've got my sights set on you," Emily replied with a smile, a laugh bubbling in her throat. Her words made your chest tingle and tighten pleasantly, even if she was just joking.
"Damn, Prentiss, I thought you would be at least a little smoother than that," you said, raising an eyebrow. "But I guess that is what could be expected from someone who reads Vonnegut for fun."
Emily scoffed and opened her eyes wider, leaning back into her chair with her arms folded and legs crossed.
"Oh, is that how you're going to play it, Herbie?" Emily said, referencing the movie Love Bug about a racing Volkswagon Beetle with a mind of its own. "The Vonnegut line is getting a bit tired, don't you think?"
"You're just jealous that you can't think of a better comeback."
Emily laughed and raised her hands in surrender.
"You caught me. My brain is fried from these case files."
You smiled back at her and she began to pack up her desk.
"Well, I'm pretty sure you were in the middle of asking me on a date, Prentiss, so how about you try that again," you said, hoping to get a rise out of her. As expected, her cheeks flushed a soft pink.
"Shut up," Emily replied. "Pizza at my house? It's movie night."
"Of course," you said with a gentle smile, setting aside the teasing for now. It had become a tradition that every Friday you weren't elbows deep in a case, you would spend the evening with Emily watching shitty movies and eating super cheesy pizza from your favorite little shop in her neighborhood.
Emily started to pack up her work, as well, and within a few minutes, the two of you were happily on your way to her apartment, you following close behind in your own car for the drive.
Sergio greeted you and Emily at the door, tangling himself between your legs and meowing insistently, begging for attention. You moved to pick him up and immediately groaned, hands flying up to try and soothe the ache in your ribs.
"Sorry, Serg, but I can't pick you up today," you said the kitty, not noticing Emily walking back towards you.
"Are you sure that you're okay?" Emily asked, worriedly bringing her hand to rub up and down gently on your upper arm. You pressed your lips into a tight smile and nodded your head.
"Yeah, I think I just need to go sit down. I'm feeling pretty tired from today," you said being truthful with your words. While you were in some pain, you knew it was exacerbated by your long day.
Emily grabbed your hand and guided you to the couch, helping you to sit down. Her hand was soft in yours and her fingers seemed to slot perfectly in the spaces.
"What's that?" Emily asked, looking at you quizzically.
"Huh?" you said, eyes widened in surprise.
"You said something about my hand when I tried to pull away."
You looked up at where your grip was still strong on hers, noticing that Emily wasn't making any move to separate your hands, either. There were two things you could do now-- play it off as you always had or you could come clean for once about how you were feeling.
"I was thinking about how your hand feels good in mine," you said, feeling your skin heat up and pulling your lip into your mouth to pull at the dry skin there with your teeth.
Emily stood quietly for a second, though not pulling away. She seemed to be thinking pretty hard about something and after a few moments, she sat down next to you, still not dropping your hand. Turning to face you, she looked deep into your eyes before her next words fell from her mouth.
"I like holding your hand," she said simply. Her eyes tracked back and forth between yours like she was looking for an answer. "I-I would like it if we could do it more often."
Though Emily was pretty physical with you and the rest of the team, offering affectionate knee pats and back rubs and grasping at fingers while making particularly sentimental statements, the touch always felt unceremonious and familiar. But as she held onto you, gripping a little tighter and using her thumb to caress the back of your hand, it felt nothing like the casual touches she had shared with the others, or even with you when you had first become friends.
"Emily," you said, her name a whisper on your lips as you pulled her hand closer to you. "You feel it, too?"
Emily scanned your face and nodded, looking down at your intertwined fingers.
"Yeah, I do."
The way Emily now spoke was soft and timid, uncharacteristic of the confident, powerful woman you interacted with every day. In this moment, there was a vulnerability to Emily that you hadn't seen from her before. Usually, Emily had all the right things to say but watching her now, you knew that you needed to be the person to break the barrier, to let Emily know that her feelings were safe.
"You've been one of my best friends for a long time now, Em, but I would be woefully mistaken to pretend that's all you are," you said, anxiety swirling in your stomach, a worried inkling in the back of your head telling you that you were reading the situation entirely wrong.
Emily looked back up, not saying a word but leaning toward you in the way young children did when you would read their favorite story. Her eyebrows were lifted, her eyes big and round, lips parted ever so slightly as she waited with bated breath for you to continue, afraid to say something herself. Drawing courage from somewhere you didn’t know, you sucked a deep breath into your lungs and took the plunge.
"I don't know how you feel about it, but I would like it if we were something more," you said, leaving the statement open-ended for Emily to decipher from it what she would. It was too daunting for you to tell her that you wanted everything with her-- kisses and cuddles, love and intimacy, and a chance at a future.
Emily's response was to gently wrap her arms around your neck, careful of your bruises. You wrapped your arms around her waist and relaxed into the embrace. It was warm and inviting, a place you wanted to stay. Turning your head, you pressed your nose into her thick, dark hair and smelled the familiar scent of expensive shampoo that was distinctly her.
"I like the way you feel in my arms," Emily said into your shoulder, mimicking what you had said about holding her hand. She pulled back to look at you and then brought a hand to cup your cheek. A familiar smirk pulled at her cheeks, the sparkle in her eyes bright. "I want to know what your lips feel like, too."
"Still not very smooth, Prentiss," you said with a beaming smile, holding her hips a little tighter, teasing her lightheartedly. Emily rolled her eyes and leaned forward.
"Shut up," she laughed before closing the distance between the two of you and placing her lips on yours.
Her skin was soft, much softer than you anticipated. Her first kiss was chaste, simply pressing her lips onto yours. Near immediately, though, she came back for another, slotting her lips between yours and moving slowly in a way that made your head spin. She was good at that. Hands trailed up into your hair, tugging at the nape of your neck. Getting lost in the moment, you tugged on her, accidentally making her body fall into yours and you yelped, pulling away suddenly.
"Shit, I'm so sorry!" Emily said, immediately pulling away like she had been burned. Guilt crossed her features but you stopped it dead in its tracks.
"It's okay, I promise," you said, hoping Emily would believe you. She looked unsure, so you brought a hand up to the side of her face and tugged gently. "I'm not done kissing you yet, come back here."
Emily smiled and relented, though keeping her body a little further from you this time. She rested her hands on your collarbones, the tips of her fingers curling around your shoulders. You initiated the kiss this time, moving a little faster than before without adding the pressure of urgency or expectation of more. You just wanted to feel Emily, to explore and be close to her in this way you never had been able to before.
When you finally pulled back, your stomach gurgled, making the both of you laugh out loud.
"I guess it's food time, huh?" Emily said, using her thumb to trace a line on your lower lip. You pressed a kiss against the digit and smiled.
"Yes, please!" you said, smiling up at Emily who was already moving to retrieve the home phone off of its base.
Within minutes, Emily was back next to you on the couch with two glasses of water, claiming that if you couldn't drink because of your ribs, she wouldn't either.
"Can we talk about what this means?" you asked, knowing that Emily was probably wondering the same.
"Yeah, of course," she said, turning in her seat to look at you.
"I feel like we have already been dating for a really long time," you started, "but I don't know if I'm ready to put an official label on it."
Emily nodded her head.
"I completely understand that, I'm not sure I'm ready, either," she replied. "What would you be comfortable with?"
" I want to take you on dates and get to know you," you said without hesitation. "And then when we both feel it's right, when we are both ready, I want you to be my girl."
Emily blushed and looked at her hands.
"You already know me," Emily said, "And I’ve thought I’ve been your girl for a long time now."
You gripped at Emily's hand and tilted her chin up so that she would look at you.
"Yes, but I want to know you as a romantic partner. I don't want to rush into anything and ruin what we have. I want to be confident when I call you my partner that what we have is solid and that neither of us is going anywhere, that we will work as something more than friends," you said, moving to caress her cheek. "But you, Emily Prentiss, are right. You are my girl and you always have been. Even if we can't make this work, you will still be my girl because you're the best friend I have ever had."
Emily nodded, understanding flashing on her face and relief flooding her body language.
"But you want this, you want to try?" Emily asked, not because she was unsure of your feelings for her but because she knows both of your histories. "I don't want to be heartbroken by you, speed racer."
You chuckled and shook your head at the moniker you couldn't get away from today. There was no fear in Emily's face, she was confident in what she was asking, confident in how you would respond.
"It's you and me, Emmy," you said, pulling out a nickname that usually was reserved for late at night and moments of true vulnerability. "It's you and me."
Emily leaned forward and kissed you once more, more forceful than previously, conveying the message she knew shouldn't be spoken aloud yet, not while things were still so fresh. But you heard them, you felt them, and you knew that you had found the one person you wanted to have by your side. You were hers just as much as she was yours-- now it was only a matter of time.

words: 1.1k
pairing: emily prentiss x (poc)fem!reader
warnings: small mention of blood, but that’s really it. just some fluff
prompts: “it’s not as bad as it looks” , “i’m not going anywhere” , “i can’t concentrate when you look at me like that” , and “affectionate teasing” (?)
summary: when emily comes home all battered and bruised it’s up to you to take care of her, and you’re more than willing to do so. however, no one said she’d actually make it easy for you…
Tumblr media
It was nearly 4 in the morning when Emily finally came home to your shared apartment. She walked through the door and turned around to lock it, before moving quietly to set her bag on the floor. However, the moment she did so, a painful groan echoed throughout the place when she bent over, and it was that mild sound alone that was enough to wake you up from your peaceful slumber in the next room.
You knew it wasn’t a burglar, given that your girlfriend’s signature perfume was currently wafting through the entire apartment like a calming air freshener, comforting your worried mind. Even so, you were still on high alert as you walked down the corridor, wondering why she sounded like she was in distress.
When you finally reached the main room, it was completely pitch black, with the only source of light being the moon peeking through the curtains, and the only audible sound being the monotonous humming coming from the refrigerator in the nearby kitchenette.
“Em?” You questioned, concern clearly evident in your tone as you flicked on the light switch.
As soon as you did so, and the area was quickly lit up, you could finally see your girlfriend sprawled out on the sofa. She flinched at the sudden visual change and her hand immediately flew up to her head. However, after glancing over and noticing you standing there, she quickly put on a facade and tried to act like she wasn’t currently in pain.
“Hey, you.” She spoke through a clenched smile, standing up to give you a hug. “What are you doing up so late? I hope I didn’t wake you.”
“What happened?” You asked worriedly, ignoring her attempts to distract you. The bloodied gash on her forehead was already a sign that it was a case gone wrong, but you noticed how odd she was walking towards you, almost like pain would consume her if she made the slightest wrong move.
“Oh, this?” She pointed to the wound on her head. “I’m fine, it’s not as bad as it looks.” She assured you, yet you were quick to raise your eyebrow in doubt, causing her voice to subconsciously get higher, a tell tale sign that she was lying. “Seriously, Y/N. It’s just a scratch.”
“Just a scratch.” You scoffed sarcastically, before moving to get a closer look at it. “You know, that's exactly what Mercutio said in Romeo and Juliet, right before his untimely death. Come on, let’s get you cleaned up.” You went to put a hand on her arm but she instinctively jerked away from your touch, immediately grabbing onto her side.
“It’s alright, love. Why don’t you go back to bed? I can take care of it—”
“—I’m not going anywhere.” You quickly cut her off, and the determined look in your eyes was enough for her to finally sigh in defeat, knowing that once you were set on something, there was very little that could change your mind.
With Emily’s approval, you gently placed a hand on her back and helped guide her over to the bathroom. There, you helped her sit on the edge of the tub, before quickly leaving to grab an ice pack and some pain killers for her to take. It was only after you were a safe distance away that Emily showed the true pain she was in when she held onto her abdomen once more and let out the groan she was trying so hard to hold in.
With delicate movements, she gripped the hem of her t-shirt and lifted it up in order to see the damage an unsub had caused only a few hours prior. However, she barely had a chance to see the huge and discolored bruise for herself before she suddenly heard you gasp from the doorway.
“Oh my god, Em!” You rushed to her side, helping her with lifting the shirt up and over her head.
“You should see the other guy.” She attempted to joke, trying her best to put you at ease.
“Oh, trust me, I plan to. The moment I murder the son of a bitc–” Suddenly, you were silenced by your girlfriend pressing her lips to yours in a chaste kiss, which somehow managed to calmed you down and take a small amount of her pain away also.
“You’re cute when you’re mad.” She hummed in amusement, before grabbing the ice pack from your hands and placing it along her abdomen. “Alright, I’m ready. Patch me up, Doc. I promise I’ll be a good patient.” She gave you a mischievous wink, resulting in you sending her a smile as you shook your head.
After retrieving the first-aid kit from the drawer beneath the sink, you took out a piece of cloth and lightly dabbed some peroxide on it, before bringing it towards the wound on her forehead. “This shouldn’t sting too much but if it does let me know. I just want to clean up some of the blood.”
As you began cleaning her up with a gentle touch, you tried your hardest not to allow your eyes to wander down towards the black sports bra clinging tightly onto her skin, or the lightly toned abs that adorned her torso. Although it was a pleasant sight that you’ve witnessed quite often, it still affected you all in the same ways every time.
“Hey, eyes up here, Doc.” Emily teased, seeing the way your eyes continuously glanced down at her figure. Her face said otherwise though, as she bit her lip and looked up at you, dimples protruding from the feign innocence she tried to display.
“Stoppp.” You whined, blushing at the fact that you were caught. “I can’t concentrate when you look at me like that.”
Emily immediately laughed at your words and it was like music to your ears. That was, until she cried out in pain from the movement.
“I hate seeing you in so much pain.” You sighed, now applying some antibiotic cream to her cut. “Remind me to yell at my brother for not driving you to the hospital.”
“It’s not Derek’s fault,” She uttered, mindlessly playing with your thick curls as she waited for you to finish placing a fresh bandage on her head. “He wanted me to go because he knew how you would react, but all I wanted was to come home to you.”
“And why is that, Em? You could have a concussion! Or worse, you could be bleeding internally, and don’t tell me it’s just a scratch, because this,” You showed her the small paper cut on your left thumb that you had managed to obtain from your own job. “This is just a scratch.”
Emily smiled sweetly, taking your barely-injured hand in hers and bringing it closer to her lips. “Because,” She whispered lovingly, before kissing the soft padding of your thumb. “Being with you always makes me feel better, and somehow, you never fail to take my pain away.”
Your heart melted at her words, and it was safe to assume that she once again sweet talked you into not being mad at her. However, it was practically impossible to harbor any negative feelings for her anyway. You loved her too much, and all you wanted was for her to be safe and okay.
Which is exactly why you planned on driving her to the hospital first thing in the morning.

hopelessly and completely
Summary:  Emily Prentiss x GN!Reader. The thing about realising you’re in love with your best friend, is that it’s pretty impossible to un-realise it, and really, Emily didn’t want to either.
Word Count: 2.3k
Warnings: Reference to drinking + sex. Lots of kissing. No actual smut. (16+)
Written for @sweetprentiss’ birthday bingo - using prompts: “I’m not going anywhere.”, “I can’t concentrate when you look at me like that.”, love confession + friends to lovers <3 So much fluff...I hope you all enjoy (my gif)
Tumblr media
You’ve always had this knack for improving her bad moods.
It’s your smile.
Emily could write poems about your smile. It’s the most beautiful thing she’s ever seen, the way your eyes sparkled and the way you chucked your head back in laughter…God, it made her weak in the knees.
She’s sitting on your couch, legs up and resting on the ottoman while you lay beside her, the top of your head touching the side of her thigh. It’s not where you started the night, but after the food had been eaten and you’d finished your second glass of wine, you had moved to lie down.
It’s getting late, and Emily knows she should think about going home soon, but honestly, she’s the most content she’s been in a while, and the idea of going home to her cold apartment is less than appealing.
“So,” you say, tilting your head back to look at her, laughing dying out. Even at the odd angle, you manage a look that means business. “Do you want to talk about what’s had you in a terrible mood all day?”
The question wasn’t really a question, more like an order, and she sighs. “It’s nothing. Just a bad day, that’s all.”
You arch a brow, easily seeing through the weak lie. “Nope, I’m not buying it.”
Emily sighs again, long and deep.
Three days ago, she had come to the realisation that she was in love with her best friend. The moment was so inconsequential to everyone else, but it had tipped her world upside down. She had gotten distracted by the way you were muttering words under your breath as you did your paperwork, brows furrowed in concentration. The sight was adorable. You’d lifted your head and caught her gaze, sending her a bright smile.
And something in her brain had clicked as her heart fluttered, and Emily just knew.
She was hopelessly and completely in love with you.
But you… you were dating. Just last night, you’d gone on a date with a pretty ER doctor, and Emily had spent today listening to you tell Morgan about how much of a great time you’d had, then Garcia, and then JJ.
Emily wanted to be happy for you, she did, but all she could think about was how much she wished to be the one to buy you dinner, hold your hand, and kiss you goodnight.
She’s surprised it’s taken her this long to realise because no one else makes her days better with just their presence like you did. You’re the one she can place in a room without turning around, the one with the smile that makes her feel safe, the one she’s spent the last year sharing details about herself with that she’s never dared to share with anyone else. You’re the person she always wants to be near, and getting the opportunity to learn about you has been something she’ll be eternally grateful for.
Which was the reason she had spent today in a bad mood. She didn’t want you to go on dates with other people; she wanted you to go on dates with her, and yet, you didn’t see her as anything other than your best friend.
“Emily,” You say and move to sit up. You take her hand in yours, loosely linking your fingers together and making her heart skip a beat. You wait until she meets your eyes before you continue. “Something’s obviously bothering you, and maybe I can help.”
She drops her gaze to your linked hand and mumbles, “You can’t.”
“Okay, well, I can still listen. You know you can tell me anything.” You say earnestly.
“I-” She tries, and if it was anything else, Emily would. She would. But you were going on dates…you were happy. What chance did she have? “I can’t. Not this.”
“Why not?”
She meets your gaze again, and all you want to do is help. Emily can see it in the concerned furrow of your brows, the sincerity in your eyes, the way you are still squeezing her hand, silently begging and all Emily can say is, “I’m your best friend.”
Your frown deepens, “I don’t understand.”
“I’m your best friend,” Emily repeats helplessly, looking away as she releases a deep breath.
Your mouth opens and closes for a moment before you seemingly come to a decision. Your free hand moves to cup her cheek, and she leans into the contact as her eyes close and your thumb brushes against her soft skin.
“Hey, look at me.” You say gently.
She takes a moment, savouring the feeling before she opens her eyes. Any breath she has left instantly flees her lungs at the soft and loving expression on your face.
“I love you.” You begin, and Emily’s heart stutters, “And I’m not going anywhere. If you don’t want to tell me tonight, that’s okay, but I’m always going to be here - no matter what. You are my best friend, Em.”
And just like that, it shatters. That was all she was ever going to be.
“What?” You ask worriedly, dropping your hand from her cheek. “Did I say something wrong?”
“No,” Emily shakes her head, voice hoarse and with a pained smile. She squeezes your hand, “You said everything right.”
“Then why do you look like I just broke your heart?”
The panic flickers across Emily’s face quickly, but you still manage to catch it, and your face falls.
She really should have left earlier.
“I should get going.” She pulls her hand from yours and stands from the couch, moving quickly to find her bag and shoes while you sit frozen.
She’s sliding on her coat, nearly free, when you finally jump up and run to the door, “Do you want to know why I went on that date yesterday?”
Emily doesn’t look at you as she fixes the collar of her coat, “I really need to get-”
“My friend gave me two weeks to confess my feelings to you; otherwise, I had to go on a date with someone of their choosing.” You rush out. “They chose Anna.”
She stills, eyes firmly planted on the floor as you step close enough that she can see your socked feet.
“I couldn’t do it.” You say quietly, “I was terrified you didn’t feel the same way, and I didn’t want to ruin what we have because, Emily, you are my best friend, but I am also so deeply in love with you.”
Silence. She can’t move, can’t think, can’t hear anything apart from her heartbeat in her ears.
“Emily, say something, please.”
She finally lifts her head and finds your face wet from tears. She reaches out and wipes them away. “You love me?” She whispers, voice a mixture of hope and disbelief.
“So much.”
“This isn’t some sick joke?”
“No, of course not.” You tilt your head, “Unless you don’t feel the same way, and in that case, it’s a big joke, and I’m only crying because-”
Emily cuts you with a kiss. You make a small noise of surprise before sinking into her. It’s soft and slow and better than anything she’s ever imagined.
When she pulls away, it’s only far enough to rest her forehead against yours.
“I love you.” Emily breathes. “I’m in love with you.”
“Yeah?” You ask, lips tilting into a smirk.
“Yes.”
You pull back to see her eyes. Emily’s hands sit on your waist, holding you close to her. Your face lights up into a bright smile, and Emily can’t resist doing the exact same.
She kisses you again because she can, and you wrap your arms around her neck as you kiss her back.
“I love you, and since I realised, I haven’t been able to think of anything else apart from how much you mean to me and how adorable you are doing the most mundane tasks.”
You chuckle and roll your eyes, “Oh, please,”
“I’m serious. Ever since I realised a few days ago, it’s like-”
You cut her off, “You only realised a few days ago?”
She opens and closes her mouth as you lightly hit her shoulder and laugh.
“Three days? Em, I’ve known I love you for months!”
“Really?” She questions, dumbstruck.
“Yes, dummy.” You chuckle, eyes bright with affection. “I’m kind of glad I never said anything now because you would have freaked.”
“I would not have!”
You smirk and peck her lips, condescendingly saying, “Okay, honey.”
“I wouldn’t have!”
You bite down on your lip to hold in your laugh while Emily grumbles and rolls her eyes. Your phone buzzes, the tone Emily recognises as your text notification, and she sighs.
“Please don’t tell me that’s Pen about a case.”
“I’ll go check,” You say as you let go of her and go in search of your phone.
Emily follows after you, still in her coat and shoes. She walks through your living room and into your kitchen-diner where you’d left your bag resting on the countertop. She leans against the door, waiting patiently as you find your phone.
“Oh,” You grimace, “It’s Anna asking if next Friday still works for me.”
She pushes herself off the doorframe, “Anna, as in?”
“One and the same.” You murmur, not looking away from your phone as you chew on your lip. “What am I supposed to say? Sorry, but I just found out my best friend loves me back, so I’m no longer interested?”
Emily walks up behind you and wraps her arms around your waist. You lean back into her with a sigh, and she places a kiss against your shoulder. “Why don’t you just leave it till tomorrow?”
“I’m still going to need to find something to say tomorrow.”
“Give it here.” She murmurs, lifting one of her hands from your waist.
You quickly bring the phone to your chest, “Nuh-uh, you’ll send something rude.”
“I wouldn’t dare.” She laughs.
You turn around in her arms, the phone still clutched to your chest as your eyes narrow. “Did you forget I was there when you stole Morgan’s phone?”
She cackles, “That was a great day.”
She’d sent Hotch a dramatic message confessing Morgan’s undying love for the other man. Morgan hadn’t found out until after Hotch called him into his office, and they were forced to have an awkward conversation about how Hotch didn’t return Morgan’s fake feelings and hoped it wouldn’t interfere with their work. Morgan had nearly murdered her.
“You’re unbelievable.” You roll your eyes as you bite down on your lip to prevent your smile.
“Unbelievably amazing.” She grins.
You shake your head, “Are you going to help me figure out how to respond to this message or not?”
“Kiss me, and then I’ll help.” She says seriously.
You sigh dramatically, “If I must.” And before Emily can offer a snarky remark, you capture her lips with yours. Her hand slides up to cup the back of your head as you pull her in closer and deepen the kiss.
She walks you backwards until you hit the counter, and you mindlessly drop your phone on the side before your hands begin to push the coat from her shoulders. Emily lets go of you for only a moment to throw the offending item on the floor before her hands are back on you.
You gasp when cold hands find their way under your t-shirt, and Emily pulls back with a smirk. Your lips are swollen, and your hair is mussed, and she believes you are the most incredible thing to ever exist.
“You are way too good at that.” You say between breaths.
Emily kisses you instead of responding.
Your phone buzzes again, but neither of you pays it any attention as she tugs your t-shirt up and over your head, chucking it on the floor along with her coat. She runs kisses across your jaw and down your neck as you sigh in delight.
Emily’s phone chimes with the unique sound she has for Garcia, and she drops her head against your shoulder with a groan.
She hears you reach for your phone, but Emily doesn’t move, hoping if she stays still, she’ll be wrong.
You unlock your phone and sigh, “You jinxed it.”
“Where are we going?”
“Dallas. Apparently, Hotch is already there. Garcia’s just messaging to let us know to be on the Jet at 5 o’clock, and we’ll fly straight out.”
Emily smiles and presses an open mouth kiss at the base of your neck before lifting her head to meet your eyes, “Which means we still have lots of time.”
“I like the way you think.” You hum, dropping your phone carelessly on the counter before pulling her back to your mouth.
Hours later, when she’s sitting on the Jet on the way to Dallas, even the crime scene photos struggle to remove the smile from her lips. She shoots you looks, watching as you shift in your chair, glaring subtly at her.
“You alright, L/N?” Morgan asks.
“Uh-Yep.” You respond, dragging your gaze away from Emily and smiling at him.
He arches his brow but doesn’t push. Instead, he turns back to the case file.
A moment later, Emily’s phone lights up with a text from you.
Y/N: I can’t concentrate when you look at me like that. Stop it.
She smirks, responding immediately.
Like what?
Y/N: Like you’re thinking about fucking me.
Emily glances at you, eyes lingering momentarily on your lips before she looks back at her phone.
And who’s fault is that?
Y/N: You’re unbelievable.
You place your phone back down, returning to the file in front of you. Emily’s eyes linger on you, smiling softly when the familiar furrow of your brows appears.
I love you
You shoot her a look as you pick up your phone, but your eyes soften, and a smile spreads across your lips as you read the message.
Y/N: I love you too. Now stop staring at me.
Emily chuckles, ignoring the curious look Morgan sends her as she pockets her phone and switches the file in Reid’s hand for her crime scene photos despite his protests.
And, hey, if she ends up looking up at you every few minutes, it really was your fault.
You shouldn’t be so distracting.

You rush around frantically, pots and pans clanging as you try to figure out where the timer was. You had set it for ten minutes nearly fifteen minutes ago and the ringing is about to drive you insane. Finally, you see the timer half buried in the rubbish. Reaching for it, you quickly turn it off before throwing it onto the counter. With the kitchen silent once more, you let out a sigh of relief.
You and Emily had planned to go out for dinner today, but instead, you decided to give her a little surprise. It was supposed to be a simple dinner for you and Emily, with a homemade pie for dessert. You had spent the previous day scouring the internet for a pie recipe that you were confident you could replicate, and had sought help from Tara for a particular spaghetti carbonara recipe that you knew Emily liked. Now, six hours after you began, your kitchen was a mess. Flour from your attempt at handmade pasta cover the walls, and utensils litter the counters from when you were too preoccupied to clean.
However, your brief relief turns to panic once again when you hear the rattling of keys and the front door opening. You quickly toss the burnt food into the rubbish and try to wipe off any remnants of food on the counter. You manage to hide the slightly (or extremely) deformed pie dough in the oven and step out of the kitchen just as Emily neared the entrance.
“Um, hi?” she says, a hint of caution in her voice.
You position yourself to hide as much of the mess as you could. “Hey, Em…” you say, a wide grin on your face. She walks closer to you to give you a peck on your cheek, stopping when she notices the flour covering your shirt.
“What’s going on here?” she asks.
“Nothing…”
Emily raises an eyebrow, unconvinced, and in a split second, she darts around you and enters the kitchen. She freezes in her tracks, eyes widening as she sees the state of your kitchen. You grimace, knowing how bad it looks. It takes a full five minutes for Emily to come up with a response.
“Wow,” she mumbles, her voice barely above a whisper.
“It was supposed to be a surprise,” you grumble, pointing towards the mess lying in the rubbish. Emily winces, reaching for a string of burnt pasta. She takes a closer look at it, and you try to grab it back from her. She throws it back to you, where you promptly throw it back in the rubbish.
“It’s not as bad as it looks,” you argue weakly.
“You burned boiled pasta, love,” Emily pointed out. She looks around the kitchen, and her eyes land on the oven. You wince as she opens the oven door, pulling out the disfigured pie crust.
“It’s supposed to be a pie…”
“Right.”
You pout, sticking out your tongue and Emily chuckles, pulling you into an embrace. You close your eyes, grinning as she presses a kiss to your lips. She pulls away a moment later, and you open your eyes to see Emily grabbing the recipe you had pasted on the wall earlier.
“Emily, what-”
“Hush, I’m helping you now.” Emily walks past you, pot in hand. You stand sceptical, as you watch Emily move seamlessly around your kitchen. As she waits for the pot to fill with a fresh batch of water, Emily studies the piece of paper, chuckling to herself. You’re starting to wonder if she’s forgotten about you when Emily tosses you an apron from seemingly out of nowhere.
“Hey love, could you grab the eggs please?”
Confused, you nod, turning to the fridge to grab what Emily needed.
“Now crack them into the bowl over there.”
You work together in relative silence, Emily occasionally passing on instructions. Ever so often, Emily would lift a spoon to your mouth for you to taste. You’ve never seen Emily cook and watching her handle the ingredients with practised ease was mesmerising. Several times, she catches you staring, flicking water in your direction in an attempt to get you to focus.
She fails every single time.
Another hour and a half later, you and Emily finally finish cooking, and you place the food on the coffee table in the living room. Two plates of a simple spaghetti carbonara, a bowl of salad and two glasses of wine lay between the both of you. You had left pie to cool on the counter in the kitchen, and for dessert after. Emily sets up the television, putting on a movie that she knows you both were planning to watch.
With the movie playing and food cool enough to eat, you both dig in. Your eyes widen the moment you taste it.
“God Emily, this is amazing! Where did you learn to cook like that?”
Emily blushes at your compliment, shrugging. “It’s nothing interesting, really.”
You nudge her shoulder. “Come on, Em. Please?”
Shaking her head playfully, Emily takes a sip of her wine. She sighs, leaning against the couch as you mimic her position, shuffling closer to her.
“As you know, my mother can be quite… controlling,” she begins. “And so, whenever she was at home, I would hide in places I knew she wouldn’t step foot into, and one of them just so happened to be the kitchen. I spent so much time there that the chef working there decided to teach me some simple dishes. My mother was pissed when she found out.”
“What happened?” sensing the story wasn’t going to end well.
“My mother found out and fired her,” Emily answered simply.
You place a hand on Emily’s arm. “Gosh, I’m so sorry-”
“It’s alright, it happened a long time ago. The last I heard, she retired a few years ago.”
You nod. “That’s good.”
You both sit in silence a while more before Emily’s stomach grumbles, causing you both to laugh. The atmosphere in the room lightens and you and Emily go back to watching the movie and finishing your food.
The food is quickly cleaned off your plates, with the pie being eaten directly from the tin. Emily slices what's left of the remaining pie into smaller pieces to keep in the fridge while you clean up the living room. You do the dishes together, with you washing while Emily dries. As you wash the dishes, Emily
“You know, this was probably one of the best dinners I’ve had,” says Emily. You turn off the tap, turning to face her. You look at her unconvinced. Seeing your reaction, Emily places down the last dish, her attention fully on you. Wrapping her arms around you, she places a kiss on your forehead.
“I’m serious. Sure, there were some technical difficulties- hey!” Emily yelps when you playfully punch her shoulder. “As I was saying, despite the technical difficulties, this was the most fun I’ve had in a long time.”
“That is…”
“And because my cooking is amazing.”
Emily ducks out of your reach as you splutter, trying (and failing) to get back at her. “My cooking isn’t that bad!” you yell as Emily races to the living room.
“Tell that to the poor spaghetti you killed!”
That night, you lay in your bed, Emily cuddling beside you with a book in hand. It’s become a little routine, where you would spend the night together after date nights, regardless if you both have work the next day. It didn’t matter anyway, considering how Emily had a drawer in your apartment and vice versa.
You hear Emily close her book and the soft thump when she places it on the nightstand. You do the same with yours, turning off the lights at the same time. The moment you’re back in bed, you feel Emily’s arms around your waist, your head being tucked into her chest.
As you feel Emily’s breathing even out, you hear her mutter softly.
“Hey love? Why were you cooking tonight anyway? I thought we were going out for dinner?”
You shrug, “I just thought you deserved something nice.”
Emily places a kiss on your forehead, holding you closer, “being with you is all I could ask for.

Girl of Your Dreams
You’re being plagued by a recurring dream about your best friend.  It’s not like it’ll ever come true…will it?  Written for @sweetprentiss’ birthday celebration.  This is the first reader insert I’ve ever written, so please be nice.
Pairing: Emily Prentiss/Female Reader
Warnings: Implied sex, mentions of alcohol
Word Count: 932
Bingo Prompts: Friends to lovers, affectionate teasing, “I can’t concentrate when you look at me like that.”
Read on AO3 or below the cut
It wasn’t often that you and your best friend got to spend an entire weekend together.  You were pretty focused on your research, and Emily was frequently away working a case with the BAU.  You still managed to squeeze in time to see each other regularly, but it had been months since you’d had a whole 48 hours together to hang out and have fun like you did back in college.  You were excited, but you were also a little nervous.  Emily didn’t usually make you nervous, but lately you’d been getting a bit of a funny feeling whenever you saw her or thought about her.  Of course, you’d always found her attractive; you’d always thought she was a catch, but you’d never had feelings for her—she was your best friend!   Still, it was getting harder and harder not to get flustered when she complimented you or teased you.  You found yourself fixating more and more on her features: her dark hair, her winning smile, her sharp jawline, her big, expressive brown eyes. When she hugged you, her touch felt like electric current pulsing through you.  And then there was that dream…
It was always the same dream.  You and Emily in bed together, her tugging on your hair as she moaned your name.  You’d had the dream at least half a dozen times in the past few months.  Normally you loved telling Emily all of your interesting dreams, and she loved listening to them.  But this was one dream you were definitely keeping to yourself.  You couldn’t tell her you kept dreaming about her, and you sure as hell couldn’t tell her you’d dreamt about her last night and woke up feeling very aroused.  You were going to have to work a little harder to keep your cool, but Emily certainly wasn’t going to make your job any easier.  Your friendship with her had always involved a certain amount of playful teasing, but she was really laying it on thick today.
It started with her gently ribbing you for insisting on a Disney movie to start off your girls’ weekend, but you got her back when you noticed her crying at Lilo and Stitch.  That was the great thing about your banter: You could both give as good as you got.  And you were priding yourself on how well you were keeping your cool, even though every smile, every laugh, every playful nudge from Emily was making your heart pound, and last night’s dream kept running through your mind like a revolving door of erotic images.  Still, you managed to play it cool through Disney movies, card games, Chinese takeout, and gossiping over wine.  But now she was beating you at Scrabble, and you could feel your second drink starting to go to your head, and you knew that your face was probably turning as red as the Lambrusco in your glass.
“And I’ve got a Triple Word Score, so that’s 45,” Emily said, marking down her latest total and comparing your scores, “Damn, you are really off your game tonight!  If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were letting me win.”  She smiled at you devilishly, and you felt it in every cell in your body.
“You’re only winning because you’re cheating,” you huffed, hoping Emily wouldn’t notice the effect she was having on you.
“Cheating?!” Emily laughed, “Name one rule I’ve broken.  You can’t.”
“Okay, fine.  But you’re definitely not playing fair,” you said.
“Oh?  And how am I not playing fair?” Emily asked teasingly, leaning over the table and resting her chin on her hand.  She batted her eyelashes and grinned, and you were damn near losing your mind.
“Because I can’t concentrate when you look at me like that!”
You could feel your cheeks burning, and your heart was pounding in your ears.  So much for keeping your cool.  The words had just slipped out, but there was no turning back now.  Emily was going to know how you felt about her, and it was going to make everything weird.
“What do you mean?” Emily asked.  Her voice wasn’t teasing anymore.  It was soft and earnest, and…hopeful?  Was it possible Emily had been feeling the same way?
“I mean…” you began, your voice barely above a whisper. You had to summon all your courage to keep going.  “I mean I think you’re incredibly beautiful, and every time you look at me like that, I, uh, well…I kind of want to kiss you.”
“So kiss me,” Emily said, getting up from her seat and coming around to your chair, “Kiss me right now.”
She leaned in, her lips hovering just inches away from yours.  You wrapped a hand around the back of her head and closed the gap between the two of you, capturing her soft, perfect lips in a kiss that made you feel like your body was on fire.  Emily moaned softly as she moved to straddle your lap and wrap her arms around her neck, and your tongue slid effortlessly into her mouth.  Your fingers were tangled in silky dark hair, and the smell of Emily’s shampoo filled your nose.  Emily pulled away from the kiss and pressed her forehead against yours, curling her fingers against the back of your neck.
“I’ve wanted this for so long,” she whispered, “If you only knew how many times I’ve dreamed about you taking me to bed.”
“I’ve had the exact same dream, pretty girl,” you said, your face breaking into a smile, “I think it’s time to make our dreams come true.”

Manifesting Beauty
Tumblr media
Summary: Ari and I tried to think of a hundred different ways to describe this series that we are creating but there really is no way to do it proper justice. Just know that somehow she has convinced me to do another series… or maybe it was the other way around. Either way here is a lovely Penemily series that I am collaborating with @ssaagentemilyprentiss on.
Characters: Penelope Garcia, Emily Prentiss. Mentions: Spencer Reid and Tara Lewis
Relationships: Penelope Garcia x Emily Prentiss (Penemily)
Bingo Prompt: Affectionate teasing @sweetprentiss
Warnings: N/A. Tooth rooting fluff
AO3
------
Emily and Penelope knew this part of their relationship all too well. Emily was on a case hours away from her beloved blonde but at least this time they were in the same timezone. It was a small consolation prize for the worst part about them finally getting together. Their relationship was still new and they wanted to spend every single moment they could together. But serial killers didn’t stop for anyone and Emily had been on back-to-back cases for what felt like forever to the two women. They texted whenever they could but it was not enough for the brunette. She needed that adorable cute blonde curled up next to her as they began to drift off to sleep. Since that was impossible she settled for the next best thing… a phone call. A call that had been going on for close to six hours now. Emily had called her girlfriend as soon as she had gotten back to the hotel and had no intentions of hanging up until she could hear Penelope’s snores that would lull her into sleep. She would never admit it but this had become the only way that she could fall asleep at night now.
Emily was sitting on her bed trying to play a game on her phone when a text came through. She glanced at it and then let out a snicker.
“What are you laughing at babe?” Penelope asked staring at her phone as if the brunette was sitting next to her.
“This text from Spencer,” Emily giggled beginning to read it out loud, “He asked if he and I aren’t married by the time we are 65 if we could get married.”
Everyone was slowly beginning to catch onto the fact that Penelope and Emily had begun dating but Boy Genius seemed a little behind the curve. Penelope let out a slight giggle at the text message, “What are you going to tell him?”
“Well, I’m not going to say no! I don’t want to miss the chance to be with someone at that age. My options would be very limited.” Emily responded.
“You don’t think that you would be married by 65? I highly doubt that.”
“I don’t know what I am going to be doing in 65 years! I barely know what I am going to be doing tomorrow.”
Penelope merely snickered and moved back to the stitching that she was working on. A couple of seconds went by before Emily spoke again, “Did I ever tell you that I am an ordained minister?”
“What in the world? Why?”
Emily let out a large laugh, “Let’s just say it was a dare and that lots of drinking was involved. Now I can marry people and baptize children.”
“I would let you marry me,” Penelope blurted out.
There was a momentary pause before her nerves started to take over, “Wait I mean… I would let you ordain my wedding.”
“I wonder if I can ordain my own wedding,” The brunette responded and began to frantically type something into her search bar.
“What do you mean ordain your own wedding?”
“I want to marry you,” Em responded simply, “So I am going to need somewhere where I can ordain my own wedding.”
Penelope’s heart began to flutter as the words sounded throughout her silent room. Emily wanted to marry her. Like actually marry her. Something that she had dreamed about for many months but never had expected to hear. Especially this early in their relationship. Emily’s favorite thing to do was run and marriage was the opposite of running.
“I can ordain my own wedding in Pennsylvania. So I guess we are getting married in PA!” Emily reported excitedly.
“You seriously want to ordain your own wedding?”
“Absolutely! We only need two witnesses! You ask Tara and I will ask Spencer. Works out perfectly.”
“You don’t want a real wedding? With of our friends there? Lots of dancing… and drinking? The whole nine yards.”
“Is that something you would want?” Emily asked simply.
“Well yeah, I think that it would be nice. We could go to Colorado. Have a pretty fall wedding with all of the leaves falling off the trees in the mountains. It would look beautiful… just like you,” Penelope smiled picturing it in her head.
Em blushed at the comment, “Now that does sound beautiful but hear me out… Vegas wedding. We could get married by a drag queen!”
Penelope contemplated this for a moment, “Well if we are getting married in Pennslyvania for you. Colorado for me. And Vegas for you then I want a Hawaiian wedding.”
“You want to get married to me four times? You do know that means that you will be stuck with me for like four lifetimes.”
“A thing that I am more than willing to do,” Penelope replied, “But wait! We should also get married in London. It’s where it all started after all.”
“Then I am requesting Italy. You would love it there.”
“I love any place that I am with you,” The blonde said.
“God I miss you so much baby,” Emily groaned finding a place to prop up her phone, “I want to kiss you so bad.”
“Soon,” Penny hummed, “I will require all the kisses from my future wife.” “You know if we are getting married in six different places we might as well get married in every single continent.”
“Oh absolutely! I am pulling up a map now,” The blonde agreed and began to frantically search through her phone, “What places do we have so far?”
“Pennslyvania, Colorado, Vegas, Hawaii, London, and Italy.”
“Well, Canada and Mexico are easy ones. What about Russia? That would cover Asia.”
“Perfect then we have Antarctica and Australia…. I say we do Madagascar for Africa!” The brunette said excitedly.
“That just leaves South America… I say that we do Chile.”
“Oo and Brazil!”
“No,” Penelope said quickly, “if we do that we are at 14 weddings.”
“And what 13 is our lucky number?” Emily questioned.
“Yes because it is your favorite number. So anywhere else we want to go we can be our honeymoon locations.”
“You are absolutely adorable.”
“So 13 weddings with the most beautiful woman to ever walk this Earth? I think I could handle that,” Penelope said with a smirk.
Emily began to pick at the edges of her nail her nerves building, “Do you really want to marry me?”
Penelope’s response was instantaneous, “Absolutely! There is not a doubt in my mind. I can not wait to be married to you, Emily Prentiss.”
“And I can not wait to be married to you Penelope Garcia,” Emily smiled and then glanced at the clock, “It is getting late baby. You should head to bed.” “You won’t hang up right?” Penelope asked with a little whimper that melted the brunette’s heart.
“No baby, I will not hang up and yes I will wake you up in the morning.”
“Okay,” Penelope said burying herself under her covers, “Come home soon my love.”
“I will try my best sweetheart,” Emily replied imagining the blonde curling up in her arms to fall asleep, “I love you, baby.”
“I love you, my beautiful future wife.”
Within moments of the blonde’s response, she was sleeping. Her snores filled the silence that leaked from the hotel walls and showered Emily in the feeling of home. She smiled as she placed the phone next to her head on the pillow. She was going to be marrying Penelope Garcia. The most amazing woman she had ever met and the woman she loved with her whole heart. As she drifted off to sleep she began to think about how she was going to plan all thirteen of these weddings.

Organizing Chaos
Tumblr media
Summary: The second chapter of the series Demi and I are working on. Buckle in we are going on a journey @dalexandriag16
Characters: Penelope Garcia, Emily Prentiss. Mentions: Spencer Reid and Tara Lewis
Relationships: Penelope Garcia x Emily Prentiss (Penemily)
Bingo Prompt: It’s not as bad as it looks (will be bolded) @sweetprentiss
Warnings: N/A. Tooth rooting fluff
Organizing Chaos
The next morning came much too quickly for Emily's liking. Spending most of the night on the phone with bubbly blonde didn’t leave her much time for sleep but she would never complain. She glanced over at her phone realizing that somewhere during the night the phone call had ended. Picking it up she dialed her favorite blonde’s number. It rung twice before the blonde groaned. She was the furthest thing from a morning person and it had become Emily’s job to wake her up every single morning. A job she was more than willing to do but did struggle with on the days that Penelope was a little more cranky than usual. However after a cup of coffee and a couple of minutes the blonde would return back to the sweet blonde that Emily had fallen in love with.
This morning it only took a couple of moments to get the blonde up and ready for work before the brunette started to get ready for the day. By the afternoon the team had caught the unsub and Emily wasted no time in setting up the jet for their departure home. By the time the sun was setting everyone was back home and Emily was already wrapped in a blanket snuggling her favorite blonde Sergio curled inbetween them. As Penelope’s snores filled the room Emily drifted off to sleep thinking about the many weddings she had to plan. By the time the next morning rolled around Emily’s head was full of ideas…but none of them that really made any sense.
“Emily, what is this madness?” Garcia questioned looking at Emily hunched over her desk paper scraps surrounding her.
“Oh this madness is our future 13 weddings” Emily scoffed “It's not as bad as it looks! I may have started planning out our 13 weddings” she replied with a sheepish look handing over the list of ideas. Penelope glanced at the list making a few faces at some of the ideas written down.
“What are the faces for baby?” the brunette asked.
“Emily, are you actually serious about ordaining your wedding? I thought that was a joke.”
“Nothing about this is a joke Penny. I am going to marry you… and marry you. You know what I mean! ”
Penelope slightly rolled her eyes, “Fine but only because this is absolutely adorable.”
“I think you are mistaken. You are the one who is adorable in this relationship,” Emily winked.
“Full of the compliments today aren’t we Chief Prentiss?”
“Always. I spent every night on the case thinking about how I was going to marry me. It put me in a mood,” Emily shrugged.
“Speaking of… I am not getting married in Vegas by an Elvie, I mean it’s kinda cliché.”
“So you don’t wanna get married in Vegas?”
“Oh I do! I just don’t wanna be married by Elvis”
“Okay, who would like you to marry us then?”
“I don’t know. Just not Elvis. And I wanna wear my lucky blue tuxedo shirt”
“So no Elvie but you wanna wear blue tuxedo shirts?” Emily asked raising her eyebrow slightly.
“I feel like that’s a lot of judgment coming from a person that wants to officiate her own wedding?”
“Not judging, just making sure I got all the facts straight,” Em shrugged, “I still can’t believe you chose London for one of the weddings.”
“I had to! You had left the BAU and decided to moved across the world. Then waited till the very moment that I was about to head home from helping you move to tell me that you loved me. London holds a special place in my heart.”
“Hey! I came back!”
“And I’m very happy you did just know that the next time you decide to up and move somewhere that you are going to have to take me with you,” Penelope smiled.
“Of course! I am not going anywhere in the world without you by my side baby,” Emily grinned leaning over to kiss the blond on the cheek.
“Good… because we have a lot of places to go. Like this one,” Pen commented pointing at the eleventh wedding on the list, “You really wanna get married in Antarctica?”
“Yes I wanna get married surrounded by penguins.”
“Surrounded by penguins?” The blonde asked cocking her eyebrow.
“Yes! I mean they are already dressed for the occasion.”
The blonde let out a series of tiny giggle, “My love you don’t even like the cold weather.”
“It’s okay. We just have to say I do and then we go someplace to warm up,” Emily replied with a suggestive smirk.
The other woman barely heard the comment however as she began to look over the rest of the list, “Emily under no circumstances are we bringing home a lemur!”
“Wait, why?” The brunette protested.
“Just because, just no.”
“You know Pen you’re saying no to me a lot today. I mean I never tell you no but you already said no to Elvis so I get to bring home a lemur,” Em said simply.
“You tell me no all the time,” Penny tried to argue but instead merely broke into giggles, “Okay so maybe you don’t but babe what are we going to do with a lemur?”
“Love it and care for it. Come on Penny, Sergio needs a friend. Please?”
“Nope.”
“Okay how about this, you let me get the lemur and we can also get the puppy you’ve been wanting,” The brunette told her knewing that it would distract the blonde immediately.
“A puppy?” Penelope squealed.
“Yes any kind of puppy you want,” Emily said immediately regretting the words as they fell out of her mouth.
“I want a Great Dane and I want to name her Aphrodite,” The blonde responded simply.
Emily stifled a groan at the sound of the horse that was going to be living in their home,“Okay I get a lemur and you get Aphrodite.”
“Em, I don’t see how we are going to be able to get a lemur home.”
“Oh just leave that to me,” The brunette replied with a devilish grin.
Penelope merely rolled her eyes and finished looking at the list, “‘Em, Colorado is our real wedding day.”
“Yes I know.”
“Well shouldn’t that be the first wedding?”
“No. We need to save the best for last. Plus it would be our 13th wedding and you are the one who made us stop at 13 weddings because it is my lucky number.”
“This is true. Where exactly in Colorado are we doing this wedding?”
“Umm you pick. All I remember about Colorado is being thrown against a wall and getting kicked half to death,”Emily joked.
“Not funny babe,” Penelope replied crining at the memory that resurfaced, “Aspen. I’ve always wanted to get married on the mountain. Aspen is very beautiful in the fall.”
“Sounds like the perfect place to marry a perfect woman on our special day.”
“Complimentary Emily may be my favorite,” Penelope smiled leaning to give Emily another kiss, “What are we going to do with all these weddings you don’t have notes by?”
“Wing it of course,” Em grinned, “It is what we do best. No one said that it had to be official weddings with all the glitz and glamour every time. I just want to marry you Penelope Garcia.”
“You know you never did officially ask me to marry you.”
“Oh, I plan on fixing that right now,” Emily said pulling a small black box out of her pocket, “Penelope Grace Garcia… will you marry me?”
A smile grew across the blonde’s face as she launched herself into her fiance’s arms, “Yes… a thousand times yes.”
“A thousand times? Let’s just start with 13 weddings and see how that goes first.”
Penelope giggled giving the brunette a quick kiss, “I love you Emily.”
“Not as much as I love you baby.”

Note: We are pretending that valentines day in the 70s-80s is the same as early-2000s because I said so.
Note: Part of this idea came from someone in a discord server that I left. if you recognize the hs lovers theme from an idea you had, shoot me a message so I can credit you.
----------------
Growing up, Valentine's Day was always a little special. Everyone at school would color their little boxes and bring in dozens of pre-made notes covered in cartoon characters with little silly candies attached. The classroom would be decked head-to-toe with heart-shaped everything and all of the activities for the day would be centered around love. At home, too, your parents would buy little stuffed animals from the store with some little, cheap chocolates so that you could be their Valentine, too. It was never anything extravagant, never anything expensive or over the top-- it was just enough to make you feel a little special and a little extra love on a cold February day.
In high school, you had your first real romantic relationship and got to really experience the joys of what the holiday could bring. Logically, you knew it was a Hallmark holiday but you couldn't help but shake in excitement every year when you got to see what plan your girlfriend had cooked up. She was born wealthy and while she didn't go out of her way to make sure that people at school knew it, there was very little she wouldn't do for you. For three years in a row, you were dazzled with your favorite candies, dates to the movies, the softest stuffed animals, and on your last Valentine's Day, one of the most beautiful pieces of jewelry you had ever laid your eyes on. It was tasteful and subtle but entirely special to the relationship you had shared.
Despite the love the two of you shared, your relationship came grinding to a halt after graduation because you and your girlfriend both were moving away for college and weren't ready for the hardships that you would face trying to keep a relationship afloat over hundreds of miles. It was a mutual decision to end things, as sad as it was. You spent one final night together and then decided that it would be for the best if you didn't try to be friends. Things would just get too messy and painful if you tried it any other way. The love between the two of you felt too strong to be able to put away as if nothing ever happened. You, however, couldn’t bring yourself to take off the necklace she had given you, to relinquish the one thing that had always made you so loved.
Years and years went by and you never heard from her again. Part of you was hurt, despite the fact that you had both agreed to not be friends. She had been such a huge part of your life and was someone you trusted immensely, someone who you felt safe around. It hurt that you never got to have her back in any capacity. But, time continued on and soon enough she was just a fond memory amidst the toil and trouble that was adolescence. You wore the necklace less and less but couldn’t seem to get rid of it– its comfort was still something you cherished on days you missed her the most.
After college, you worked in your field for a while but decided that something was missing. On a whim, you applied to the FBI to work in some silly department related to your bachelor's degree, and much to your surprise, you got in. After the academy, they paid for you to get a Master's degree and after 7 years of stellar work, your boss suggested that you take the profiling courses and apply for the BAU. It was hard work but you passed your courses with flying colors and caught the eye of one of your instructors who then gave Hotch a bit of a nudge when hiring a new profiler.
On your first day of work, you were nervous. These were some of the best agents in the entire bureau and you felt like an imposter, like you couldn't possibly belong amongst them. For a little extra support, you placed the chain and pendant around your neck that reminded you of your worth. Even if you didn't let yourself think of the girl who gave it to you, the small memento gave you comfort. Any and all jitters flew out the window, though, when you saw her sitting at a desk, laughing with a kid who looked barely 25. You couldn't believe it! Your heart started to race and butterflies erupted in your stomach. Emily. The name you hadn't let yourself think about in years. Would she remember you? What was she like now? Would she want to be your friend? With Emily around, you knew that you would fit right in.
Your internal monologue was immediately stopped in its place when her eye caught yours. Warmth spread on your cheeks and you clutched your bag closer to your chest, raising one hand for a tiny little wave. Emily seemed to be frozen in place with a frown on her lips and a sinking feeling flooded your body. She was just staring at you and seemed to be displeased to be doing so. Of all the reactions Emily could have had to seeing you again, that was one of the ones you dreaded. Almost as quickly as they arrived, the butterflies and warm tingles vanished and you were left with nothing but cold anguish. Maybe things had changed more than you could have anticipated.
Scurrying up the stairs, you took yourself to the Unit Chief's office to get yourself situated for the day. He paired you up with Reid for the time being, knowing that fieldwork and combat weren't your specialties. Instead, he played to your strengths and you couldn't have been more grateful that he didn't pair you with the only other woman agent just because you, yourself, weren't a man. He told you to take the free desk next to Reid and introduce yourself. That, however, meant taking the desk kitty-corner to Emily, too, and you felt that anxious feeling stir in your belly once more.
For the next few weeks, you did everything to avoid Emily. You even stopped wearing the necklace completely. Reid was barely taking a liking to you and the last thing you needed was another person to have stilted, forced conversation with. After a while, however, Emily was the one to break. It was on the jet back from a hard case, the majority of the team sleeping, leaving you and Emily the only ones still awake. With a determined look in her eyes, she crossed the jet and sat down next to you, startling you from the book you were reading.
"Is there a reason you're ignoring me?" Emily asked, never one to mince her words.
You blinked at her a couple of times as your jaw fell open. What?
"I'm not ignoring you, we just don't have that much work we have to do together," you replied, trying to keep things calm. Emily breathed heavily through her nose before looking around the jet, making sure everyone was still asleep.
"Listen, I know we have... history, but I would really like it if we could at least try to be friends. This team is like a family and I don't want to be the reason you feel like you can't be a part of it."
You looked at Emily with equal parts surprise and awe. That was the girl you remembered from all those years ago, the girl who always put others before herself and had so much love to give.
"I didn't think you would want to be friends. We decided all those years ago not to be friends and I never heard from you again," you said, sadness lacing your voice.
Emily reached out and grabbed your hand. It was warm and familiar; it made you feel safe just like it had all those years ago.
"I would like it very much to be your friend," she said before leaning back in the chair and pulling out her worn copy of Slaughterhouse-Five. As if she had just given you permission, you reached into your go-bag and pulled out the necklace that you had come to rely on, stringing it around your neck and rubbing your hand over the pendant to feel its cool metal on your skin once more. She would never admit it, but a little smile twitched at the corners of her lips when she watched you out of the corner of her eyes.
As the weeks came and went, you and Emily had fallen into a comfortable friendship. You would chat and shoot the shit at work, talk about a little bit of everything without getting too deep or vulnerable. There were new walls around Emily that you hadn't quite seen before from the girl who once saw too much beauty in the world. It hurt your heart to think about what kinds of awful things she had gone through in your time apart to take from her what once made her so her. Emily’s smile was still bright and infectious, though, and her mesmerizing brown eyes still had that twinkle in them, still had that curiosity and mischief that had always been there. This Emily was new to you, ragged and a little worn around the edges, but enthralling all the same.
It was only on Valentine's Day that you started to question whether or not being Emily's friend was going to be sustainable. As you had predicted all those years ago, Emily's gentle touches, kind gestures, and warmth had reeled you right back in. It was different this time, you felt like you were crushing on someone you had never met before. The things that drew you to Emily now were foreign to you-- her quick wit and sharp tongue when she interrogated unsubs was something you had never known would be a thing about Emily that filled your dreams.
She was more confident now, having lost a lot of the nerdy, socially awkward teenager and replaced it with a funny, strong, alluring woman who knew exactly how beautiful she was and how to make that work in her favor. You saw bits and pieces of the girl you once knew, she was still in there somewhere. But this Emily? She was intriguing and captivating in ways you never would have imagined from the gangly teen with cropped hair and dark, ripped clothes who would talk endlessly about sci-fi novels and cute aquatic animals and her latest art project.
For the holiday, the team had been grounded for a week, mandated by Strauss to take time to catch up on paperwork because she had gotten her ass reamed by the Director. You were honestly glad for the break, you hadn't realized just how many cases the team took and by extension how little time you were able to spend in your own bed. Even worse, during the last case, your lucky necklace had been ripped from your neck by an unsub during a field interview that wasn't supposed to be with a suspect. The clasp had ripped into pieces and the fragile, decades-old pendant shattered on the concrete at your feet. When backup arrived and Derek put the unsub in handcuffs, Emily's eyes couldn't seem to leave the dip in your collarbones where the necklace used to sit and the tears welling in your eyes. It felt silly to be so upset about losing a necklace but you were sad, nonetheless.
This Valentine's Day, Penelope had gone all out. Each of your desks had little heart-shaped decorations on them with handwritten notes pinned in them and a pile of your favorite candies at its base. On your desk at the end of the day, however, another little gift showed up. It was a little box wrapped in shiny white and red paper with a bow attached to the top. Your name was scribbled in handwriting you would recognize anywhere on a tag made of worn, aged paper. It had to have come from Emily's stash of stationery that she kept as a secret-- writing letters and poetry on "paper with personality" a hobby she picked up when you would write each other notes back and forth in your lockers. She always liked to surprise you with what she could find.
Looking around, you noticed Emily was nowhere to be found in the bullpen. Slowly, you unwrapped the gift, carefully removing the paper so you wouldn't ruin it, and pulled out a small, bright blue box. Inside was a near replica of the necklace that you were given all those years ago only updated to be more becoming of a working adult. You held it gently in your hands, watching it sparkle in the fluorescent lights. Entranced by the thoughtful gift, you didn't hear Emily come up behind you until she started to speak.
"I hope you don't mind, I got you a gift," she said, wringing her hands in front of her and sucking a lip into her mouth to bite on anxiously. She had her coat slung over her shoulders and her bag in her hands, obviously ready to leave for the day.
You were speechless, just looking at Emily with wide eyes and your jaw dropped open. Emily blushed a bright red and began to fidget the longer you didn't respond. She rambled slightly, wishing you a happy Valentine's Day, and scurried off to the elevators, not ready to face the embarrassment of having overstepped.
In all honesty, that was the exact opposite of what you were feeling. Warm, tingly feelings were spreading across your chest and arms, familiar butterflies erupting in your tummy. It was Valentine's Day and she got this for you. Quickly, you regained your senses and ran after Emily, sprinting down the stairs and catching her just as the elevator dinged open on the first floor, stopping her with a firm hand on her shoulder, almost knocking her off balance in the process. You caught her in your arms, your faces unbearably close as you turned her around to look at you.
"You got me a new necklace," you said, out of breath and scanning Emily's face. Her skin flushed a bright pink again and she looked down at her toes. Her hands were still clutching at your forearms, though, not severing the connection.
Reaching up, you tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and cupped her jaw, taking a stab in the dark that this kind of affection would be welcomed. She near-imperceptibly leaned into the touch and you took it as a sign to continue.
"I love it so much, thank you. Can I ask why you got it for me, though?" you asked, hoping not daring to let yourself hope that it’s anything more than a friendly gesture.
Emily chewed on her lip again before finally lifting her eyes to meet your own. They were those same, sparkling brown eyes you had fallen in love with all those years ago and it made your chest tug at your heartstrings. You watched as Emily physically gulped before stuttering into the beginning of her sentence.
"B-because I didn't like seeing you without my necklace," she said, her answer throwing you off-kilter slightly. Her necklace?
You tilted your head and quirked an eyebrow, encouraging her to continue.
"When I saw you still wearing the necklace that very first day of work, it reminded me of what used to be, of what we shared. Seeing you reminded me of a time when things were simpler-- when I was just a girl in coffee-stained pajamas as you read to me in the early light of the morning. It made me miss you in a way that I never thought I would again and knowing that you still wore my necklace was all I needed to not lose that feeling, to not forget the way that you cared. I didn't want to ask you for more but I also was too selfish to ask for less."
"Emily..." you whispered, breath catching in your throat at her confession. You gripped her forearms harder and unconsciously stepped closer to her. "That's why I still wore it, it made me feel safe and it reminded me of the only time in my life I have ever felt truly loved. It was the only piece of you I let myself have."
Emily's face lit up in a soft smile, her dimple carving into her cheek and her rosy lips just barely daring to upturn.
"I still want to be your girl in a white t-shirt, over coffee stirring in the cinnamon, while you read me poetry by dead men," Emily said, boldly taking a plunge, allowing herself a moment of vulnerability that she hadn't been able to in years. It was you, how could she not even try?
You slipped your arms around her waist, tightening your fists in the fabric of her shirt beneath her unbuttoned coat.
"I never stopped loving you, Emily," you confessed, joining the jaded woman in her moment of vulnerability, "and I think I'm falling in love with who you've become."
There was no going back now and you could only hope that Emily felt the same. Emily immediately crushed you in a hug, cupping the back of your head with her slender hand and breathing out a deep sigh of relief. When she pulled back, you smiled brightly at her.
"Go get your things, I have the number for the best Chinese takeout and a cuddly kitty at home," Emily said with no hesitation in her voice. "Be my Valentine?"
Instead of answering, you simply pressed your lips against hers in a chaste kiss and then shooed her towards the door.
"Send me your address, I will be right behind you," you called over your shoulder, catching the elevator that just opened, letting some of the White Collar agents out. Emily was smiling brightly and mouthed an "okay" at you, not turning to leave until the elevator doors shut. You couldn't contain the excitement that flooded your body and you started to wiggle and jump a little in the small space, thankful that you were alone.
You were getting a do-over with Emily, a second chance at being with the only person who had ever really felt like home. You were home.

I Don't Want To Be Alone Anymore - Emily Prentiss x Fem Reader
Tumblr media
Hi friends! This fic is for @sweetprentiss 's birthday bingo, filling spots "it's not as bad as it looks" and "love confession". It's hurt/comfort with a dash of angst, but don't worry there's a happy ending! Hope you enjoy! :)
Description: Set after Minimal Loss (4x3). After Emily comes back to the east coast after being stuck in Utah for two days, she calls to tell you she's okay but confesses she's been hurt. She argues that she doesn't want you to see her, you argue back that she needs to stop pushing you away. When she finally let's you come over to see her, something unexpected happens.
Rating: Explicit, but only because there's a couple F bombs and other curse words. Tw and cw for bodily harm and aftermath of a physical fight, but if you've seen 4x3 you'll know what to expect.
Word count: 4,006 (this is the longest fic I've written so far!!!)
Tagging @ssaagentemilyprentiss @themoontaxi @sweetprentiss @dalexandriag16 @its-soph-xx (if you want to be tagged in my fics lmk by asking and/or filling this form out)

The melodic tune of your ringtone catches your attention while you're in your car, stopped at a red light. You reach over the center console and dig around in your bag to find your cell phone. With a flick of the wrist the phone flips up and you press it to your ear, holding it between your head and shoulder as you move the steering wheel to make a left turn. "Hello?"
"Hey, it's me," Emily says through the phone.
“Hi baby!" You happily exclaim. You hadn't heard from your girlfriend in two days and were starting to get worried. When Emily is out of state on a case she at least tries to call you once a day, even if it's only for a couple minutes, just so you can hear her voice. That didn't happen this time.
Usually Emily will mirror the tone of your voice, happy to hear your greeting. But she doesn't, she sounds a bit anxious instead. “Sorry to call, I know you’re at work.”
“Oh, that’s okay! I’m actually on my way back to the office now. I had a late lunch. Went to Saggio’s, that Italian place with really good gnocchi soup. You jelly?”
You hear a very small chuckle on the other side of the line, “Very.”
“Are you still in Utah?” You ask as you attempt to parallel park your car outside your office building. Emily had to travel to Utah for work. She said they were just going to interview some people and gain intel so they could build a stronger case, the details of said case were kept hidden from you for the most part so you only had a very vague idea of what Emily was working on. Before she left, she assured you that she’d be in and out of Utah, but you assumed by Emily's radio silence that her assignment must have gotten more complicated than originally planned.
“No, thank fucking god." Emily says, "We landed back in Virgina about two hours ago.”
“Oh good! How’d it go?"
There's a moment of silence before Emily answers your question. “Well... we were hit with a lot of... unexpected trouble.”
You frown at Emily's response as you shit off the motor and sit back, wanting to wait a few minutes before you have to walk across ice covered pavement to return to work. “Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that, honey.”
“It's..." Emily sighs harshly, "it's alright babe. I just wanted to call so I could hear your voice. I’m sorry I couldn’t call you earlier, I was... tied up. With the case. Had to deal with some really fucked up people who made things so much worse then they should've been. But-um... anyway, I wanted to let you know that I’m okay.”
“Oh... okay.” You say hesitantly. Redflags are beginning to fly around in your brain, your curiosity tempting you to ask Emily what happened over there, because you can tell that something is wrong. “I was worried when you didn’t call, but I just figured you were focussed on work, so I didn’t want to disturb you. But I’m so glad you’re back! Just in time too! I was starting to worry that I’d have to tell my parents you weren’t going to make it... again.” For the past couple weeks you’ve been trying to arrange a time for you and Emily to have dinner with your parents, since you and Emily have been dating for a little over six months and things might be getting a little more serious. Somehow, Emily has managed to get pulled into work at the last minute, causing you to have dinner with your parents alone or not at all, but hopefully the fourth time’s the charm. “I can’t wait to go to dinner tomorrow! I talked to mom this morning and she said, and I quote, ‘I can’t wait to finally meet that gorgeous girlfriend of yours.’ Are you excited or what!” The grin on your face is so large it makes your cheeks hurt. Sadly, it doesn't stay on your face for very long.
“Wow, that’s uh... I’m-uh... I’m really sorry to do this Y/n, but I don’t think I can make it.”
“Again?" You ask, already frustrated because this dinner had already been rescheduled for the third time already. You open your car door and step out, slamming it behind you as you begin making your way towards your office building. "Emily, I thought you didn’t have to work this weekend?”
“I don’t, I still don’t. But I have to stay home and rest for the next couple days.”
“You have to stay-?" You quickly realize what Emily means. Something happened in Utah. Something bad. "Wait, what happened? Are you hurt?”
The silence on the other side of the line gives the answer away before Emily starts talking, “Yeah... I got roughed up a little. But I’m okay though, I’m okay. I just..." Emily's voice trails off. Your heart is racing, panicked by the idea of Emily getting ‘roughed up’ by anyone. From time to time since you two started dating, Emily has mentioned incidents when she would get hurt out in the field, but it wasn’t something she liked to talk about with you. Even while you’ve been dating, if Emily came home with a couple bumps and bruises, she would tell you to stay away and give her space for a day or two. She claims that she doesn’t want you to deal with the aftermath of a bad case, that she preferred to handle it on her own. You knew it was just Emily’s way of shutting you out, her fear of being vulnerable, her fear of you not being able to handle the bad parts of dating an FBI agent. You hope this time she’ll let you see her, let you be with her as she recovers, but you’re doubtful. And that frustrates you.
You can't help but lose your patience with her. "Just what, Emily? What's going on?"
"Y/n, I don’t want to meet your parents when I... I have a black eye, and a bruised jawbone. And a lot of scratches on my hands and arms.” Emily says, sounding embarrassed.
You stop in your tracks and immediately regret losing your patience, your frustration dissolves and is replaced with shock and concern. “Oh my god, baby! What?!”
“Don’t worry, I’m fine! I'm okay! Calm down!”
You can't calm down. Your eyes are wide in panic, your chest is tight. Even though you’re two feet away from your desk, all you want to do is turn around and walk back to your car so you can rush over to Emily's apartment. You have to see her, you have to see your girlfriend. Your poor bruised girlfriend. “Are you home? Can I come over?”
At this point your coworker who sits across from you is awkwardly glancing at you, trying to figure out why you’re so shaken. You wave to them before sitting in your rolly chair, trying your best to ignore their look of concern. Your only focus is listening to Emily's voice.
“No, no Y/n. I don’t want you to see me like this. I don’t want you to...” Emily keeps talking, but you stop processing what she says. Mainly because you’ve heard it all before. You’ve heard all of the excuses and defensiveness that come out of her mouth when she’s like this. And you’ve had enough.
“Well, Emily? That’s too fucking bad. I get that you want to protect me from all the big bad scary shit you go through. But if we’re gonna make this relationship work? Then you’re going to have to stop trying to shut me out. You have to stop thinking that I’m gonna take one look at you and be like, ‘Oh, this is too much for me, nevermind’ and leave. You know that’s not what I want to do Emily, you know that all I want to do is be there for you. We’ve been dating for how long now, over half a year? How am I supposed to get used to you coming home to me after getting hurt out in the field if you won’t let me see you? How am I supposed to make this work if you don’t want to let me be there for you, like good girlfriends are supposed to do!”
“But Y/n, I-” Emily tries to argue, but you're not having it.
“No, don’t 'Y/n' me. You don't get to keep hiding yourself away every time you get hurt, Emily. Especially now when I haven't heard from you for two days. Every time you’re gone, I wait for you to come back, and then when you come back you don’t want to see me. It’s bullshit, Emily.” You say defensively. Your co-worker clears their throat, causing you to look up at them with an awkward grimace on your face. They awkwardly grimace back at you. Slightly embarrassed, you sink down into your desk chair.
“I know, I know it’s bullshit, Y/n. But this is what being with me is like. My job takes a toll on me, and when I have bad days, bad weeks, I just- I don't want you to be subjected to that. I just wanna be alone. You have to understand.”
You can't help but roll your eyes at Emily's words. She still doesn't seem to understand that the whole point of being in a relationship is to support each other through the good and the bad. And when it comes to Emily, there’s always gonna be something bad. You try not to blame her for that, you know that she loves working for the FBI, and you’re always so proud of her for kicking criminal ass and protecting innocent people. But it seems to still cause a strain between you two, especially when Emily refuses to let you near her when she’s in physical and mental anguish.
"Oh I understand, babe. Totally understand. If you really want to be alone, then fine. I’m not gonna stop you. I’ll just tell my parents that they’ll have to give up on trying to meet you because this relationship isn’t going to progress anymore than it has since you don’t want me around.” Tears are building up in your eyes and your chest is so tight you’re struggling to breathe. You know you’re being slightly unreasonable and dramatic, but you don’t care. You need Emily to understand how frustrated and hurt you feel.
Emily sighs heavily, her breath blowing into the receiver and making a loud sound that makes you cringe slightly. "Please, baby. Don’t do this. I’m sorry. I understand you’re upset, I understand why you’re upset with me, but I don't want to fight with you. I've been punched in the face and kicked in the ribs and I’m very very worn out. So please, I'm really sorry... Okay?"
Taking the time to acknowledge that Emily is trying to talk to you despite having gone through something traumatic, you nod and try to center yourself. "I'm... sorry too,” you say begrudgingly. “I'm sorry, I know you're in pain and I'm just making you more upset and that’s totally unfair.” You’re genuinely sorry, and you want Emily to know that you’re not angry at her. You can never truly be angry at her. Frustrated to the point of crying? That’s a different story. “Listen, I just want to see you. I want to make sure you’re okay. Please, Em. Can I come see you after I get off work? Or... do you want to be alone tonight?” You ask, acknowledging that Emily might still want space after whatever she's been through, even though you’re internally begging on your knees that that’s not the case.
“No, no-um... you can come over.” Emily says, “I’d love to see you.”
"Yeah?" Her answer surprises you and makes you feel instantly better about the whole situation. You’re sure Emily is uncomfortable with you seeing her in whatever condition she may be in currently, but this is her trying to prove to you that she wants to let you in, that she does indeed want you around even after a really bad case. This is a tiny but also huge step in the right direction.
"Yeah. I’m sorry for shutting you out, you don’t deserve that. I don’t want you to think that I don’t want to be with you. Because I do, I really do. I really missed you, Y/n." Emily says warmly, the way she says your name makes you melt just a little.
The corner of your mouth perks up , “I missed you too, Em. I’ll see you in a couple hours, okay?”
“Okay. See you soon.” Emily replies.
After you hang up the call and put your phone down on your desk, you glance over at your coworker. They look back at you and shake their head slowly back and forth, “I have no idea what that was about, but if you wanna grab a cup of coffee real quick to spill the tea, I’m down.”
You chuckle and roll your eyes lightheartedly, “No tea needs to be spilled, I’m pretty sure you heard enough anyway.”
They turn back to their computer and nod, “Hmm... fair enough.”
---
When Emily first opens the door to greet you, it takes you a couple seconds to recognize her. It nearly brings you to tears as soon as you see the dark colored bruises and the butterfly bandage holding the cut on her chin closed. Her skin looks more pale and pasty than usual. She’s wearing a large hooded sweatshirt and leggings, trying to hide as much of her body from you as possible. You’re not sure what you were expecting to see when Emily told you she was hurt, you thought you had prepared yourself enough on the drive to Emily’s apartment. But after seeing the black eye and the bruising on her jaw and neck, you suddenly realize how wrong you were.
“Can you come inside please? I don’t want anyone else to see me like this.” Emily pleads, her eyes nervously glancing from side to side. You can tell that she’s embarrassed by her appearance.
You quickly snap back to reality, having realized you’ve probably been standing there for a good thirty seconds just staring at her like an idiot. “Oh my god, yes. Sorry. I’m- I’m sorry.” You quickly step inside the apartment and take off your coat.
Emily smirks, “You have snow in your hair.” She reaches her hand up to your head and ruffles your hair before smoothing it out, combing her long fingers through it. You can’t help but stare at her face, your eyes locked on the blue and purple bruising around her left eye. Emily notices of course and backs away, “It’s- um... it’s not as bad as it looks.”
This is when you finally speak up, “N-not as bad as it looks? Emily, I- Who did this to you?”
Emily huffs and begins to walk away from you, “I don’t want to talk about it, okay? All you need to know is that the guy who did this to me is dead now and we saved a bunch of people. I did my job.”
You follow her into the living room, observing the way she’s walking stiffly and with a slight limp. Your mind is racing with a million questions you want to ask, but you know that it’s better if you don’t. Emily sits down on her sofa and holds her head in her hands. You slip your shoes off your feet and approach her slowly, joining her on the sofa. You make sure to leave some space between you two, not wanting to crowd her. You can’t imagine what Emily is feeling, what’s running through her mind. You want to help her so badly but you don’t know how. You don’t know what to say. You’ve never been in this situation before.
“I’m sorry, baby. I’m so so sorry that this happened to you.” You say, fidgeting with your hands because you’re scared to reach out and touch her. “I know this is a stupid question but... is there anything I can do? To help make you feel better?”
After a few long seconds Emily lifts her head and tilts it to the side to look up at you. You notice the tears right away, which triggers your eyes to tear up as well. She sniffles and wipes her nose with the sleeve of her shirt, “I don’t know. I’m... I’m sorry.”
“No, honey. Please don’t apologize, you don’t have to-”
“No, I need to apologize. I need to tell you this before I lose my nerve, so please, just listen to me.”
You nod your head, crossing your arms over your chest. Emily takes a deep breath in and rubs her palms against the top of her thighs. “Okay. I know that when I’m upset or hurt, I usually just want to be alone. And I tried to pull that crap earlier today, but... I really didn’t want to be alone. I was just really freaked out and letting my insecurities get in the way of us, again. Y/n, I don’t- i don’t want to keep doing that to you. I don’t want to be alone anymore, you know?” Emily's brows furrow as chews on her bottom lip to stop it from quivering, her demeanor changing to show her sudden determination as her tears begin to subside. “I don’t want to keep pushing you away when shit like this happens. I know you just want to be there for me and support me, but I don’t... I don’t know how to let you do that Y/n. I don’t know how to trust that you won’t get scared and run off when things get rough. When not seeing me for days at a time is too hard for you, when seeing me like this is too hard for you.”
You begin to speak, “Emily, I-” But you’re quickly cut off by Emily saying something that you definitely weren't ready to hear.
“I love you.”
All you can do is stare at her with your mouth agape, eyes wide with surprise. This is the first time those three words have been said out loud. You figured you were going to be the first to say them, coming close a couple times in the past few weeks before stopping yourself out of fear and doubt that Emily wouldn’t say it back. But now here you are, being told that your girlfriend, Miss Emily Prentiss, loves you, for the first time ever.
“What?” You ask, dumbly.
“I love you, Y/n.” Emily repeats, “All I could think about when I was in Utah getting my ass kicked was, ‘Oh my god, if I don’t make it out of this alive, Y/n’s not gonna know that I love her. She’s not gonna know how much I want to be with her for every free moment I have. She’s not gonna know, and she’ll be left alone.’ And that only made me want to do everything in my power to get through that stupid fucking disaster so I could come back to you. Even if that meant you seeing me all scratched up and bruised.”
Emily scoots closer to you and reaches up to tuck your hair behind your ear, cupping your face and rubbing her thumb across your cheek to wipe away the tears you were unaware you were shedding. “I know being with me isn’t easy, baby. I know my career makes things extremely difficult and stressful for us. I know I make things difficult and stressful for you. And I am so deeply sorry for letting you think I didn’t want to be with you, that I didn’t want you around, that I didn’t care about you and our relationship. Because I do. There are gonna be times like this where I’m gonna get really hurt out there, or you’re not gonna hear from me for more than a day because something bad happened at work. I’m sorry if that scares you, it scares me too. I want you to know that no matter what happens to me, I’m going to try my best to make sure that I don’t leave you alone anymore. I need you to know that I will always want you around. That I want you to be here with me when I’m upset, even when I’m hurt. And I’m going to do better at being there for you when you need me too. Because you matter so much to me, Y/n. I can’t imagine what my life would be like without you in it. I love you so much it scares the hell out of me because I’ve never had a partner like you. I’ve never truly cared about a partner like I care about you."
You’re barely processing Emily’s words because you’re so overwhelmed with conflicting emotions, but you can tell by the way Emily’s eyes are boring into yours that she’s being very serious about how strongly she cares about you. How much she loves you.
“I’m really sorry that I told you that I love you for the first time like this. This probably wasn’t the right time and I-”
“I love you too!” You exclaim to Emily, smiling awkwardly as you try to stop yourself from crying.
A massive grin grows on Emily's face, her eyelashes flutter. “Yeah?” She asks sheepishly.
“Yeah." You say reassuringly, nodding a lot and mirroring Emily's elated expression.
You both gaze at each other, reveling in the significance and sweetness of the moment. The impulse to give Emily a big hug and kiss begins to make itself known, but you stop yourself before you make a move. “God damn it Emily, I want to kiss you so bad but I don’t want to hurt you!”
“Oh come on! Don't worry, I can take it. Come here, kiss me, please!” Emily pleads as she pulls you closer to her face by the collar of your sweatshirt. Your two smiling mouths meet and your whole body relaxes. Any tension that you had in your shoulders, any tightness in your chest, dissipates as Emily's lips move against yours. You wrap your arms carefully around your girlfriend’s chest, making sure not to squeeze her ribs.
Suddenly a thought pops up in your head, a reminder more like. "So. I hate to bring this up right now. But um..." You mumble against your girlfriend's mouth. She begins trailing kisses down your neck so you can continue speaking. "I should probably call my parents and tell them that dinner is-"
"I think we should still go."
"What? Babe, no!" You shake your head, accidentally bumping your jaw into Emily's nose.
"Ow!" Emily says, her hand shooting up to hold her nose.
"We're not going! Your face is broken!"
"So? I know this dinner has been pushed back more times than you'd like, and I'm sorry about that. Let me make it up to you. Let's do dinner tomorrow. Your parents can come here so we don't have to go out, I'll have Rossi give me a recipe to make. Come on baby, I want to meet the parents of the woman I love. Even if my face isn't as gorgeous as your mom says it is."
You chuckle at Emily's reference to your mom, "Oh my poor baby! You're still gorgeous to me even with your boo boo eye." You coo in Emily's ear before pressing butterfly kisses all over her face. "I appreciate you wanting to do that, Em. We'll talk about it in the morning, okay? Right now, I just want you to keep kissing me."
Emily's lips land on yours once more and she smiles against her mouth before mumbling, "Mmm... fair enough."

Tastes Like Strawberries-- Emily Prentiss x Fem!Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: You and Emily have had feelings for each other for as long as you have known each other but neither has acted on it. While you and the girls of the BAU are making Valentine's treats for the office, your feelings come to a head. Will you get together or will fear keep you apart? Bingo prompts: Baking together, Friends to Lovers, "I'm not going anywhere"
Warnings: food, mutual pining, nothing explicit
Word Count: 2.1k
AO3
"PG, stop, you're going to get syrup everywhere!" Emily chided as she poured strawberries into a mixing bowl. It was Girl’s Night at your place and this week’s activity was baking treats for the BAU’s annual Valentine’s Day party for the department and their families. You were currently searching for containers for the dozens of cookies you and JJ had already baked and were working on frosting in the other room and Emily and Penelope were working on a topping for the cheesecake that you had just pulled out of the oven to cool.
"It will be fine, trust me, the bigger the mess the yummier the result," Penelope responded as she continued to try and use an electric mixer to mash the rest of the strawberries and sugar into a sweet, syrupy topping.
True to form, the mixer began to sputter and flung droplets of strawberry juice all over the kitchen, including a decent-sized one right in the middle of Emily's cheek. With some Tupperware containers secured in your grasp, you bounced over to where Emily stood and placed a big kiss on her cheek, collecting most of the juice with your lips.
"Yummy, great job Penny," you said with a giggle as you watched Emily's face flush a bright red. The taller brunette wiped at her cheek a little and started to grumble at you.
"Of all the people to pick as my best friend..." Emily mumbled, trailing off and turning her back to you.
"Sorry, bestie! You know I had to do it to 'em," you said before giving her a little side hug and walking back into the dining room where JJ was still frosting the sugar cookies.
Penelope continued to mix the strawberries and sugar until it was a consistency she liked and watched as Emily pulled a tray of brownies from the oven.
"You never get flustered like that when I kiss your cheek, you know," Penelope said, hoping to ruffle some of Emily's feathers.
Emily huffed in response and shut the oven off, putting her mittens away and grabbing a plastic knife to cut the brownies. As she started to section the dessert into neat little squares, Penelope continued to push at the issue, affectionately teasing and prodding until Emily's patience wore thin.
"It doesn't matter that I have feelings for her, I know she doesn't feel the same. Just put the damn strawberries on the cake," Emily snapped, immediately regretting how harsh she was, and winced. "I'm sorry, Penelope. Let's just finish this, yeah?"
Penelope smiled to herself, reveling in the success that she finally got Emily to admit her crush on you, even if it wasn't on purpose.
In the other room, you and JJ were finally starting to put all the heart-shaped cookies away, stacking them on top of each other with wax paper to separate the layers.
"Seems like you're being extra flirty with Emily today," JJ said, tying a pink ribbon around one of the boxes.
"I'm not trying to be, honestly," you responded, stopping yourself from licking the icing off of your thumb. Unbeknownst to either of you, Emily walked into the room behind you with the pan of brownies and stood frozen, listening to your conversation.
"Why don't you ask her out? You have to know she likes you back-- she's a total mess around you!"
I know, but I also know that Emily runs from relationships the second they get hard. I can't handle getting my heart broken by her. I would rather love her from afar than risk losing her forever."
Emily swallowed a gasp and hurried into the room, placing the brownies on the table and immediately leaving. Without hesitation, she grabbed Penelope by the elbow and dragged her outside to the front porch.
"Emily, what the hell," Penelope asked, worried about her friend. Emily was standing in front of her with one arm tightened around her waist and the other bringing fingers to her mouth so she could bite at her nails.
"I overheard them talking," Emily responded, cryptic and vague. Penelope frowned and stepped closer, rubbing a hand up and down Emily's thin arm.
"Talking about what?"
"Me, talking about me."
Penelope's frown deepened. "That's not like them, what did they say? Do you want me to kick their butts?"
This made Emily smile just a little, thinking about Penelope Garcia of all people trying to take JJ in a fight.
"No, no, not like that. I-- JJ found out about my crush and told Y/N about it after saying that Y/N was flirting with me."
"That's not surprising, buttercup. We work on a team of profilers and even I figured it out."
Penelope was trying her best to be gentle, knowing Emily's fragile, anxious state couldn't handle a giddy outburst.
"I think she's in love with me..." Emily said, trailing off.
"Even better! Now you can make your move!" Penelope's excitement was slowly leaking into each of her responses.
"No, I can't. She's afraid of me."
Penelope's excitement turned to confusion. Afraid?
"What do you mean, Em?"
Emily sighed before answering Penelope's question.
"She's afraid that if she pursues me, I'm going to get scared and run away and hurt her," Emily said, the disappointment dripping from her words as she continued to fold in on herself, now holding both arms tightly to her stomach. Penelope could tell she was trying to keep her face neutral but her dark, soulful eyes always gave away what she was thinking.
"Well... would you? Would you hurt her? Does she scare you?" Penelope asked, not quite sure what to do to help her friend. Emily thought for a long moment and wiped at her nose.
"No, I'm not afraid of her. I trust her more than anyone else in my life. I wouldn't do anything to hurt her."
Emily looked at the floor again and scuffed her boot against the wood of the enclosed deck.
"Then isn't that enough to try? You gotta tell her that you feel that way," Penelope suggested gently, hoping to push Emily in the right direction.
Instead of responding, Emily just looked at Penelope with determination written on her face and then walked back inside. Penelope brought her fists up to her face and shook them happily and squeaked just enough to get the excitement out of her system before following Emily back inside.
It wasn't long after Penelope and Emily's conversation that all of the baking and packaging was done for the evening and Penelope and JJ left for home. Emily lingered, tidying aimlessly even after all of the dishes had been loaded into the dishwasher and the counters thoroughly cleaned from Penelope's disaster. You didn't mind, Emily staying long after everyone else had gone was something you loved immensely-- any extra time with her was always a blessing.
Knowing that you would need a bag to carry all of the treats tomorrow morning, you started to reach for the top shelf of your linen closet where you kept your largest grocery bag that was insulated and covered in a lemon pattern. Standing on one leg, balancing on the tip of your toe, you clumsily tried to reach the bag. Emily saw you begin to sway and immediately joined you at the closet, placing a steadying hand on your back and reaching up herself to pull the bag closer for you to grab. A shudder passed through your body at the touch and as you returned to the ground, you tucked the bag tightly in your arms against your chest.
"What was that?" Emily asked. You sighed, frustrated that of all the things Emily to pick up on, it had to be the way your body reacted to her touch.
"Nothing," you said back, trying to move out of her line of sight. You could feel your cheeks heating up and wanted to be anywhere else. Emily stopped you with a gentle hand on your upper arm.
"I don't think it was nothing..." Emily said, her voice soft and... hopeful?
You stood in silence, looking at Emily's face, searching for a clue to what was going on in her head. How could you tell her that every time she touched you, your skin erupted in goosebumps and butterflies filled your stomach?
"I heard you earlier talking to JJ... " Emily started, filling the silence when she realized you weren't going to. Your stomach fell to your knees until she spoke again. "I feel the same way."
"You do?" you replied, hesitant but hopeful.
"Yeah, I do," Emily said as she pulled the bag from your hands and dropped it to the floor. One of her hands found your waist as she stepped a little closer and the other tucked some hair behind your ear. You leaned into the touch, nuzzling your cheek against the palm of her hand and closing your eyes. After a moment, you opened your eyes and then looked down at your feet.
"We shouldn't do this," you said, the strings of your heart pulling tight as you began to follow your head instead of your heart.
"Why not?" Emily asked, any worry that she was having completely covered by the confidence in her voice.
"It's not a good idea," you said, struggling to continue to say no to her when she was holding you in her arms. The woman you had been pining after for nearly as long as you had known her was right here, telling you something you had always wanted to hear. But that didn't change that she was a runner, a heartbreaker, a girl you catch but cannot keep.
Emily looked at you, scanning your features for some kind of clue as to what was running through your mind. It wasn't hard for her to guess, so she took a shot in the dark.
"You know I'm not going anywhere, right?"
Your breath caught in your throat and you looked at Emily, shifting your gaze from one eye to the other and back again, seeing nothing but sincerity in Emily's expression.
"I heard you say that you're afraid to be with me because I run," Emily started and you opened your mouth to disagree but she shook her head. "But I only run when I'm scared. There is nothing to be afraid of with you. You already know everything about me and you've stuck around. I already know what it feels like to love and be loved by you."
You blushed at her words, smiling a little to yourself while she continued.
"The only thing that I don't know is what it feels like to kiss you," Emily finished, sending a spark through your body. She leaned down and pressed her body closer to yours with a tightened grip on your hip. You could feel the warm puffs of air on your face and smell the sweet lavender vanilla scent of her perfume.
"Emily..." you whispered against her lips, unwilling to pull away but afraid to come any closer.
"Tell me to stop and I will walk away right now. We don't have to talk about it again," Emily said, holding her ground for short seconds before you broke and wrapped your arms around her waist and connected your lips in a kiss.
You stayed like for several long moments, moving against one another gently, as if the other person would vanish if you moved too fast. You conveyed all the things you had never said out loud with the kiss and it felt like a cool balm was soothing all of the frayed nerves you had from trying to suppress the way you felt about each other.
Emily broke the kiss first but kept her grip firm on your body, not letting you go. You tried to stop yourself from worrying but you knew Emily too well not to think that she was going to flee.
"I still love you and I don't want to leave," Emily said, running her thumb over your cheek in emphasis. "Nothing has changed and I want to prove to you that I'm not going anywhere."
There was something in Emily's words that made you believe her, something in the way her lips tasted and what her thumb felt like on your cheek. This was a woman who you shared the deepest connection with, the person who knew all your secrets, all your flaws, and never once has wavered in her presence and support. You felt relief flood your chest and there was only one thing left for you to do.
"Let's do this. I love you, too."

your ivy grows and now im covered in you— Emily Prentiss x Fem!Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Birthdays have always been hard for you, some of your most unpleasant memories centering around the day. After being with Emily, however, your feelings began to change. On this dreary, February day, she has gone out of her way to make sure that your day is perfect, the surprises up her sleeve more than you could have ever asked for. Slowly but surely, Emily has completely reframed for you what it means to be loved, to be celebrated, and to be intimate. You couldn’t have asked for a better partner to share you life with and you knew that you had made the right choice when you decided that she was the one. Bingo Prompts: Birthday Surprise!, "I'm so proud of you", "I can't concentrate when you look at me like that."

The end of February was always so dreary, the sky a muddled gray. Heavy wind whipped cold air around to sting at your cheeks though it wasn’t quite cold enough to keep the snow on the ground. Sidewalks were damp and the ground muddied without any grass to keep the soil anchored in place. It was the time of year right at the end of winter when things were no longer clean and bright but the sky still wasn’t quite ready to let the warm sunshine thaw the ground and begin the renewal that always cycled in with the sound of baby birds chirping and snowdrops blooming from the still-healing Earth after months of a permeating chill that froze everything in its path. It was only fitting that the end of February was when you celebrated your birth, the day itself stirring feelings within you both that reminded you of the cold, dark winter and the promise of spring just around the corner. As a child, your birthday had seemed special– it was something that was always celebrated with parties and presents and love. But as you grew older, your family fell into disarray and your birthday became a reminder of all of the things you had lost, of all the things you could no longer afford to have, of all the love you so desperately missed. Becoming an adult meant synthesizing all of those experiences of your childhood and adolescence into one core belief and it left you feeling conflicted, memories of birthdays both good and very bad clouding how you felt about that late-February day.
For the past three birthdays, however, you had steadily grown to love the day more and more. Three years ago, your birthday was still haunted with the memory of one of your first partners hurting you under the guise of “giving you a gift”-- an event that deeply shook you to your core. The birthdays following all ended up having varying levels of the same anxiety and distress no matter how long it had been or how much therapy you had done to try and heal the cracked, sharp edges that had splintered into your chest. Three years ago, however, was the first time that you had celebrated a birthday with someone who took the time and care to attend to your needs without any expectation of return. It was foreign and uncomfortable but your new girlfriend, Emily, was patient and understanding, probably more so than you could have ever anticipated from the outwardly stoic, sarcastic woman. When she held you, not only with her hands and body but also with her soul, it was the first time you realized that you may have been falling into actual, true love for the very first time. Partners had come and gone in your life but Emily Prentiss was the only one who had seemingly scratched the surface of gaining your trust in a way that truly allowed for you to love and be loved.
That first birthday had been your first real exercise in letting Emily see you and your boundaries. Your relationship up to that point had established some firm boundaries around physical touch and had some almost-vulnerable conversations about emotional needs. On your birthday, however, you had decided that instead of locking yourself away for the day, you wanted to spend time with Emily. But in order to do so, you knew that it was time for her to know. Completely to your surprise, though she had never given any indication that it would be otherwise, Emily met you with the softest, gentlest love you had ever experienced. She followed your lead and did everything exactly the way you had asked– she didn’t push you to step outside of your comfort zone nor did she prod for more details or vulnerability than you were willing to give. It was actually quite the opposite– she had thanked you for giving her the privilege of letting her see parts of you that weren’t for just anyone’s eyes and for trusting her to support you through it. She truly was a gift.
Over the next years, you had steadily become more and more comfortable with the day in question, Emily always making sure that she was grounded from flight with the team around that day so that she could be that consistency you needed. The day progressively became more fun, as well, Emily working with you to plan little outings and activities that felt manageable. This year was scheduled to be the most fun yet. It was the last Sunday of the month which meant that it was team bonding day at Rossi’s house– the perfect way to celebrate with the newfound friends you had made in Emily’s team. The day wasn’t specifically to celebrate you but you knew that Emily had told them that coming for the early afternoon festivities was one of the things you had wanted to do on your special day. It was just the right balance between wanting to be surrounded by friends and having fun but not feeling like all of the attention was on you or that you had any expectations of performance once you were ready to be alone with Emily. The team bonding would still be underway long after you had gone.
“Are you almost ready to go?” Emily asked as she shrugged on her jacket, fiddling with the buttons.
“Yeah, I am,” you replied, stepping out of the bedroom dressed in your favorite end-of-winter outfit. Emily’s eyes widened as she stepped towards you, meeting you halfway between the bedroom and the door.
“Wow, you look absolutely fantastic,” she said, a smile spreading across her face. Cool fingers reached up to cup your warm cheek, thumb gently rubbing the soft skin there.
You blushed but didn’t look away which was a feat in and of itself. Before you met Emily, a compliment would have rendered you speechless and uncomfortable, not sure how to accept someone’s genuine kindness. Now, however, Emily’s sweet words always made joy bloom in your chest and it was one of the greatest feelings you had ever experienced.
“I’ve gotta say, you look pretty damn good yourself, Prentiss,” you volleyed back, wrapping your arms around her waist and pulling her a little closer. With your head tilted back ever so slightly and centering your gaze on her lips, Emily smirked and gave you a soft kiss–  a routine long established.
Emily helped you into your jacket and then guided you hand in hand to the car, opening the passenger door for you with a playful bow like she was a chauffeur in one of the silly romcoms she made you watch. Her playful demeanor made you giggle which in turn caused Emily to smile and you couldn’t help but wonder what you ever did to deserve someone as beautiful as her.
Once at the Rossi mansion, you were greeted with excitement from all members of the team, hugs and well wishes had from all. Even Spencer wrapped his gangly arms around you as he wished you a happy birthday which was wholly unexpected from the touch-averse man. On the counters was a spread of some of your favorite foods from the several times you had joined Emily at team bonding night. You smiled once more, thinking about how much planning and effort Emily must have put into making sure that today was perfect for you. You would be sure to thank everyone for bringing all of their specialty dishes for the afternoon buffet. It all had tasted delicious and was exactly what you had wanted, even after Emily offered to take you to your favorite restaurant. There was just something comforting about being surrounded by food made by the hands of the people that you knew loved you.
Much to your surprise, JJ had even managed to get little Henry to say hello to you. The boy wasn’t shy by any means but JJ once had let it slip that he was absolutely enamored by you and Emily, which always made him a little skittish at first. But as the afternoons wore on, you or Emily would always end up with the toddler crawling into your lap and cuddling there as the activities slowed and the atmosphere shifted from fun to relaxation. It was sweet and often made you wonder what it would be like to have a little Emily running around who would do the same. As Henry said hello to you, matched with a butchered pronunciation of happy birthday, he held out his little hand to you with a folded piece of paper. On the front was a scribbled drawing of what looked like a… butterfly?
“Is this for me?” you asked the little boy, bending at the knees to get on his level. He nodded his head as you took the little card from him.
“Mommy says we gotta give you a pwesent b’cause it’s your birfday,” Henry replied, nodding his head resolutely as if there was no doubt in his mind that this was something very important. “So I drawed you a pi’ture!”
You opened the card and saw inside the stick figure renditions of you, Emily, and Henry holding hands. On the top, in JJ’s distinct handwriting, was a sweet message. Happy Birthday, Auntie! We love you so much and can’t wait until we get to play with you again!
You choked up a little, tears stinging at the back of your eyes as you closed the card again. Henry had never called you his aunt before and the thought alone made you pull the little boy into a bone-crushing hug, dropping dozens of kisses on his head and cheeks. He giggled and squirmed in your embrace.
“Stop, Auntie! You making me giggle!” Henry shrieked as you started to tickle his sides, the little boy’s smile wider than you thought possible on such a small face. Without much fanfare, you relented and let the boy pull away once more.
“Thank you so much for the card, Henry. I love it so much, you’re such a good artist!”
“Fank you!”
The little boy then ran off to go play with Jack in the toy room Rossi had set up for the smaller members of the BAU family. Your knees cracked as you stood, reminding you of your age and JJ squeezed your shoulder.
“I’m really happy you’re here with us today, we always love having you around.” JJ’s words were sincere and there was a sparkle in her blue eyes that made you feel at home. Early in your relationship, things had been tense and awkward between you and the communication liaison. She and Emily had been in a bit of a messy situationship before she had fallen pregnant with Henry and you were always nervous that JJ would resent you for getting the part of Emily she seemingly never could grasp. That, however, couldn’t have been further from the truth and once you let down your walls around her a little, she had shown you that she loved you just as much as she loved Emily and welcomed you warmly into their little family.
Before you could respond, a warm hand threaded through your own, tugging you back towards the kitchen. Without looking you already knew that it was Penelope and you gave her a little squeeze to let her know that you were okay with her touch.
“Alright, sugar plum, no more messing around,” Penelope said, giving you a stern look. “My chocolate thunder and I have something very special and I can’t wait for even a second longer to give it to you!”
You chuckled at her, taking in the brightly colored outfit she had chosen for the day. Looking across the room, you locked eyes with Emily and she just shrugged her shoulders, not giving any indication that she knew what was about to happen.
In the kitchen on the marble countertop sat the most beautiful cake decorated with violets and irises made of fondant and frosting. On the top read the sweetest happy birthday message, your name written in the smoothest calligraphy.
“It’s your favorite flavor and we even used whipped frosting instead of buttercream because Emily told us that desserts that are too sweet give you a headache,” Penelope said excitedly, bouncing on her toes as you stood in awe of the masterpiece in front of you.
“You made this yourself?”
Penelope smiled and nodded her head rapidly.
“Yes! It was so much fun. I haven’t gotten to bake something like this in years. The rest of the team is always so grumpy about their birthday so when Emily told me that you wanted to come join us for part of yours, I couldn’t help myself.”
“Thank you so much, Penelope. This really is the sweetest thing,” you said, pulling her into a hug. “I am curious, though. Exactly how much help did Derek give you?”
Penelope snorted and Derek finally made an appearance after hearing his name.
“I was just moral support but I did get my hands on a sweet little gift for you that baby girl and I had both had our eyes on for a long time,” Derek said, pulling a little gift bag out from behind his back.
The wrapping was nothing over the top, just a simple bag with crepe paper coming out of the top. Emily came up behind you and placed a hand on your back, leaning down to whisper in your ear.
“You’re gonna wanna open this one here, I promise you’ll like it,” she said, reassuring you because she knew that you had some anxiety with opening gifts in front of strangers. There was always a certain level of guilt swirling in your mind when others spent money on you, a remnant of growing up poor. Nevertheless, you trusted Emily and if she said it was safe, you knew it would be.
Carefully, you pulled the paper out and folded it, making Emily roll her eyes and then pull on your waist a little tighter so that you knew it was lighthearted. Inside the small bag was a little box with a lid that you could easily pull off. On top of a synthetic cotton pad laid a little blue collar with crescent moons and stars dotting the fabric. Reaching further into the bag, a polaroid was tucked into the folds of what looked like a little black harness. You flipped it over and saw the image of Penelope holding a little black cat and the inscription “Sergio” written in the white space. A gasp fell from your lips as you looked first to Penelope and Derek and then back at Emily.
“I mentioned offhandedly to Derek and PG a few months ago that you had started talking about being ready to adopt a new kitty but you hadn’t really made any definitive moves towards getting one. Then, a month or so later, Derek’s neighbor had mentioned that she couldn’t find a home for the only black kitten in her cat’s litter and he asked me if we would want to take him. I told him that black cats were your favorite and it was a done deal.”
You flung yourself into Penelope and Derek’s arms and thanked them profusely for the gift. It was true, black cats were your favorite and you had been looking for one for a while but hadn’t been able to find one that felt right. Looking into Sergio’s little green eyes, though, you could tell by the way he smooshed his face into Penelope’s that he was going to be the perfect addition to your little family. Turning back, you saw Emily tracing a finger over the collar, smiling to herself. You tugged at her free arm and wrapped yourself in it, pressing a kiss to her cheek.
“I love you Emily, thank you for doing all this for me,” you said in a hushed whisper so that only she could hear. Emily pressed a kiss to the side of your head and then turned your attention back to the cake which now had candles being put in it as the rest of the team and their families gathered around the kitchen island.
Jack and Henry both came running from the playroom and crashed directly into your legs. You picked them both up, thankful that you were stronger than you looked, and settled them on your hips. All around you, the people you had come to call your family sang off-tune with big smiles on their faces. At the end, you leaned in close and let the boys help you blow out your candles and then set them back on the ground so they could sit in the island stools and beg their parents for a bigger piece. True to form, Penelope had made an absolute masterpiece of a dessert and the flavors exploded on your tongue, making you moan and lean back into Emily who was still standing behind with a hand wrapped around your waist as she forked a bit of the large piece of cake you were sharing into her mouth.
You and Emily stayed only for an hour longer, chatting with everyone and listening to good music after you received more gifts from the rest of the team. Spencer had gotten you a copy of your favorite classic novel from his favorite bookstore, Rossi a new watch that you had been eyeballing but couldn’t justify spending the money on, JJ a little at-home spa day package with some soaps and lotions, and Hotch a simple card with the approval notice of a two-week vacation for Emily in the summer and a gift card to your favorite place to shop. All of the gifts were thoughtful and only Rossi’s was too much– though the man had so much money it was hard to be uncomfortable with him spending some on you. It was only when the game night portion of the afternoon started that you decided you were ready to head home with Emily. In the car, she wrapped your hand in hers, and instead of driving in the direction of your shared apartment, she pulled away from the mansion in a direction that was all too familiar.
“I’ve got one more pit stop for us before we go home and snuggle in,” Emily said cryptically, though you already had a guess where she was taking you.
During the first summer you and Emily had spent together, you expressed to her that you were feeling especially homesick and in return, she offered to bring you to one of her favorite places to go when she needed to get away from the bustle of the city. Right on the Potomac River was a little strip of land, Fletcher’s Cove, that was hidden behind the trees and never too filled with people. It reminded you of home, the sound of the rushing water always a soothing balm for the raw, vulnerable feeling that comes with missing a home that will never be home again. The two of you sat in the shade of a tall tree, feeding each other little fruits and talking endlessly about everything and nothing at all. It was nice– you didn’t feel the need to fill the silence with Emily but words came so easily when you never felt like you had to perform as someone else, when you could just speak what came to mind with the reassurance that Emily would be receptive to just about anything that could fall from your lips.
The afternoon was soon descending into evening, the hints of warm afternoon air falling away as you transitioned into yet another cold winter night. Walking hand in hand, you and Emily found your way to the shoreline and began a slow walk from one end of the little park to the other. The wind picked up and as it stung across your bare skin, Emily pulled your joined hands into the pocket of her coat out of habit, something she had always done when she needed that connection with you and didn’t want to give it up in favor of gloves. As soon as your hands snuggled inside, however, you both knocked your knuckles against something hard. Emily immediately pulls your hands back out and looked at you with wide eyes and a nervous smile.
“What’s that, Emily?” you asked, not quite sure what she would have in her pocket that would make her so skittish.
Emily’s nervous smile quickly became more confident, beaming at you in a way that never failed to make your heart flutter.
“Well, I was going to wait until we got to our spot,” she said, pointing behind her with a thumb to the tree where you liked to sit, “but we can– You cut her off with a finger to her lips, bouncing on your toes as you finally caught on to what was about to happen.
“No, no, let’s go over there.”
You quickly pulled at Emily’s hand, nearly running towards the spot. A giddy feeling rose in your chest and Emily chuckled at the childlike enthusiasm rolling from your body in waves. As you stopped in front of your tree, the one with the silly heart with your initials carved into it from your first anniversary, Emily’s face softened into the warmest, most loving smile she could have possibly given you. The day had already been so blessedly joyful and smiles were shared freely between the two of you but you couldn’t recall a time where she had looked at you with such love and adoration as in that moment. She squished her boots in the mud a little, frowned for just a second, and then grabbed both of your hands in hers.
“I would get down on one knee but I don’t think these pants would appreciate it,” Emily started with a chuckle, making you laugh, too.
“I’ve never felt like I’ve had a home before, I’ve never been in one place long enough to even try. But you, my love, are everything I never knew I could find. After a long case, all I want to do is fall into your arms and hold you until the horrors I see every day are long gone from my mind. For the first time in my life, my instinct is to run to you instead of hiding away when I’m upset or afraid or when the world is just too much to bear. I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life as your protector, as your safety, as your home. I want to explore the world with you, I want to have a family with you, I want to grow old with you, I want it all with you. I love this life we have built together, I love the way you sing and dance in the kitchen while we make dinner and the way that you will read your stories to me just so I can hear your voice. I love how passionate you are, how funny you are, and I love most of all that you are the most beautiful person I have ever met, both inside and out. You love me in ways I never thought I would deserve and you make me want to love you in ways I didn’t think I would ever be able.”
Emily stuttered just for a moment as your name slipped from her lips as she asked you, “Will you marry me?”
Tears immediately started rolling down your cheeks as Emily’s eye contact never wavered, her voice never faltered, and her hands never fell from yours. This was your Emily, your flighty, restless girlfriend standing here in front of you asking with more conviction than you had ever heard from her before to spend the rest of her life with you. She was firm, she was resolute, she was sure and the feelings overwhelming you rendered you speechless. Sure, you and Emily had spoken abstractly about your futures and about marriage, both of you agreeing in all the ways that mattered, but you never could have anticipated Emily to be the one to ask for forever.
Your silence seemed to worry Emily as she frantically began to look back and forth between your eyes and all you could do was grab the sides of her face and pull her in for a kiss, long and deep, to convey all that you were feeling in that moment. Hands threaded into your hair as she kissed you back, salty tears from her own face mixing with yours as they trailed down both of your cheeks. Pulling away, you smiled when you noticed that your girlfriend who hated to show emotion was openly letting you see exactly what she was feeling.
“Yes, Emily. A thousand times yes. I love you so much. I want to be your wife. I want to spend forever with you,” you said, still cupping her cheek.
“Really? You do?”
Emily’s question wasn’t out of her doubt of your love or your desire to be with her. That was something you both knew very well, something you both were very secure in. She, however, was still that lonely teenage girl that she kept locked away deep within the walls of her heart and was completely awestruck that someone like you could possibly love her as much as she loved you.
“Of course I do, silly girl,” you said, smoothing your hands down to her shoulders and giving them a squeeze before returning them to your sides. “Now show me that ring in your pocket, damn it.”
Emily laughed and acquiesced and you laughed, too. The ring was probably the least important part of all but you still wanted to keep the air of fun levity between the two of you that you always had shared. She fumbled in her pocket for a minute before pulling out a black velvet box. Inside was the perfect ring, an oval-shaped opal, bright white with the prettiest pastel reflections in the center on a rose gold band, three tiny diamonds nestled in a cluster on each side of the stone.
“Put it on me, Prentiss,” you said with a bit of a laugh as Emily stood frozen in place, watching you admire the ring. She immediately jumped into action and slid it onto your left ring finger, kissing your hand before letting it go. You pulled it up close to your face, inspecting the way it complemented your skin tone and how it twinkled in the light of the setting sun.
“Emily, it’s perfect, I love it.”
You looked back up at Emily and noticed her shy smile and a blush spreading across her cheeks. Wrapping your arms around her neck, you pulled her back in for another series of kisses, each one a little longer than the last. You murmured confessions of love against her lips, still in shock that Emily Prentiss asked you to marry her. After a while, you tucked your head in the crook of her neck and held her close, breathing in the rich scent that was so distinctly her.
“You’re going to be my wife,” Emily said into the air around you and you smiled against her skin, nodding gently.
“You’re going to be my wife,” you returned with a kiss to the soft skin behind her ear.
Eventually, you let her go and pulled out your phone, cueing up the camera. Without saying much, you positioned Emily so that the sun was shining across her face in just the right way. You held out your left hand for her to grab, positioning your fingers so that you couldn’t see your nails behind her thumb. A smile was already permanently etched on her cheeks and you admired for a long moment the way that her voluminous hair laid perfectly on her shoulders, bangs perfectly framing her dark, round eyes in just the way you loved the most. After a few minutes of getting everything just right, you snapped about a dozen photos of your beautiful girl and the ring that she had picked just for you.
You couldn’t remember a time when you had been happier.
After finding a few of your favorite snapshots, you sent the copies to her phone, agreeing to decide who to share with later after you both had taken enough time to settle into this new development in your relationship. With hooded eyes, you looked up at Emily and said, “take me home.” She wasted no time and immediately pulled you back to the car, never letting go of your left hand. Even as she drove, her fingers found their way to your lap and threaded with yours so that she could feel the cool metal on her skin, too.
Once back at your shared apartment, you immediately pulled her to the bedroom, barely taking the time to lock the door behind you and pull off your shoes and coat. Shirts were unbuttoned and flung all along the hallway, wandering hands traveling up and down bare skin as it was uncovered. Emily soon enough backed herself to the edge of the bed and stopped, taking a moment to slow down the frantic energy between the two of you as you had finally made it to your destination.
Tumblr media
You helped her out of her pants and she with yours,  leaving you both standing in only your bras and underwear. Your hands quickly found her waist, caressing the skin there as you leaned back in for another kiss. She wrapped her arms around your neck, tangling one hand in your hair and tugging lightly on the roots, eliciting a quiet moan as goosebumps erupted up and your arms and down your back. Emily tilted your head to the side and kissed your jaw and the sweet spot on your neck, nipping gently at the skin there. You tightened your grip on her back, digging your nails into her slightly,  making her moan against your neck. She sucked gently, enough for you to feel it but not enough to leave a mark, and your head lulled to the side as you felt pleasure tingle at your fingertips.
As Emily kissed her way further down your chest, you reached behind her to flick her bra open, guiding it off her shoulders and dropping it to the floor. With gentle guiding hands, you pulled Emily back up to kiss your mouth again as you undid your own bra, a ritual she was very familiar with. Soon enough you pulled her close to you once more, relishing the feeling of her breasts pressed against yours as you began to take control of the kiss. Her hands began to wander, grazing up and down your back and sneaking up to cup your chest, drawing a gasp from your lips. As you both explored each other’s bodies, your roamed freely to wherever you wanted them to go but Emily’s halted, as they always had, at your hips, never venturing lower. A boundary had been drawn very early in your relationship– Emily was not to touch you past your hip bones. That, however, didn’t mean that Emily couldn’t help make you feel good. Oftentimes, you would grind against the strong muscles in her thigh or sit in her lap and ride her strap when she wanted to be more involved. Sometimes, when you really wanted to feel connected with her, you would even place her hand on top of yours as you brought yourself to climax. Emily had never touched you directly nor had she asked to after the boundary had been set.
“You’re really okay with marrying me even if you never get to touch me,” you asked, pausing in the moment as your head flooded with thoughts and self-doubt.
Emily quirked an eyebrow at you and then cupped your cheek. “I get to touch you all the time, what do you mean?” To emphasize her point, she tucked some strands of hair behind your ear.
You shook your head and looked down at your toes, struggling to put words to what you were feeling.
“I know that in that past you have always been more of a giver in bed, much more than I have ever let you be. Are you sure you’re okay with spending the rest of  your life like that?”
Though Emily had never once complained, not even in a passing comment about the dynamics you had shared in bed, you couldn’t help but feel guilty that you weren’t giving her enough. It’s not that you didn’t want to, there was a part of you deep inside your chest that ached for Emily’s touch but you just couldn’t let yourself have it. But there was always something holding you back, something telling you that her touch wasn’t safe, that you didn’t deserve it.
Emily sighed, though not of exasperation, and pulled you closer to her body, letting her warmth permeate your skin. She pinched your chin between her thumb and forefinger, lifting your face to meet hers.
“Can you look at me, my love?” Emily asked, her voice soft and undemanding. Slowly you flicked your gaze from the floor back to her eyes. In them, you saw nothing but love and care.
“I meant it when I told you that I wanted to be your safety, that I wanted to be your home. I never feel like I’m missing out when we are together. I never feel like there is something I’m left wanting. Knowing that you trust me enough to touch you in the ways you let me is a gift and I always want you to feel safe with me. I never want to give you a reason to think I would hurt you, I never want to jeopardize this, the way that I know you can breathe around me.”
As typical of this day, you felt your eyes water and Emily quickly wiped the stray drop that leaked onto your cheek. No one had ever done that for you before, no one had ever taken such explicit care to make sure that they created a space in which you could feel safe, a space where the shackles on your chest never seemed to tighten. It had always been you against the world, leaving you to shape and mold yourself in any way necessary to make sure that you could function and exist within the confines of others’ expectations, of others’ lived reality. But Emily, your dear, sweet Emily, had taken the time to make sure that while you were busy figuring out how you could fit into her world, she was adapting herself, too, so that she could fit into yours. Instead of pushing and folding you into bent, jagged pieces so that you could find connection within her walls, she had opened herself and reshaped her surfaces so that you could freely pass from where you ended and she began. Without even realizing it, you had become symbiotic with her, with this remarkable woman, because for the first time in your life, you had met someone who could meet you halfway and would do so without needing to be asked twice. She didn’t make you go the extra mile, she didn’t demand from you what you could not give. And now you were certain that she never would, you were certain that she was someone who would always ebb as you flowed, lift as you fell, and give when you needed to take.
With a resolute look in your eye, you wrapped your fingers around the hand not caressing your cheek, and slowly guided it past your hips, resting it on the soft tuft of curls at the apex of your thighs. Emily’s fingers twitched but didn’t make a move towards or away from where you wanted to guide her, instead, resting exactly where you placed them. Her eyes scanned your face, searching for an answer to the question in her mind as she didn’t want to break the silence and interrupt what you were doing.
“I’m ready,” you breathed into the space between your bodies. “Please, Emily, touch me. Taste me. I’m ready.”
Emily furrowed her eyebrows and ran her thumb over your cheekbone once more.
“Are you sure?” she asked. “You don’t have to do this for me.”
Leaning in close, you dropped a kiss onto her lips. “I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life. I want to give this to you, Emily. I want to reclaim what was taken from me.” You scanned her face and watched as her eyes softened from confusion to hesitant excitement. “Please, Emily, I want to be yours in every way that you will have me.”
Those words were all Emily needed to lean forward and begin to kiss you, her tongue making its way to press against your own. She spun you easily, backing your thighs against the edge of the bed and then pushing gently on your shoulders so that you would sit.
“Lay back on the pillows, baby.”
You shimmied yourself back onto the plush pillows, adjusting them so that you could look down and see everything Emily was doing. As soon as you were comfortable, Emily climbed on the bed and hovered over you, kissing your lips sweetly. Sitting back on her haunches, she trailed her fingers down your tummy, ghosting over your hipbones and caressing your thighs with a gentle touch, taking care to go slow. Her fingers felt like angel soft kisses on your skin, goosebumps erupting everywhere she touched you. As she moved from place to place, she narrated for you every movement, from belly to outer thighs to inner, using light pressure to encourage you to open yourself to her touch.
Nestling herself between your open legs, Emily leaned forward once more, leaning on her forearms next to your head to kiss and nip at your neck, hitting all of the spots that made you melt. Her lips traveled down to your chest, kissing all around your breast, giving you plenty of time to get used to her touch just how she knew you liked. She began to suck and bite a little harder, leaving marks where she knew no one else could see. Lips wrapped around your nipple and sucked, drawing a sigh from your body. A hand reached up to caress your other breast as her teeth tugged softly, making you moan her name and thread your fingers in her raven hair. Emily hummed in delight, loving the way it felt when you gripped at her silky strands.
“I’m going to touch you now, okay?”
You nodded and gave a verbal “yes” as she slowly took her hand from your breast and pulled it between your legs. Using her full palm, she cupped you, surrounding you with her warmth, acclimating you to the feel of her touch without the protective barriers you had always put in place.
Step by step, Emily told you exactly what she was doing before she would do it, waiting for your verbal consent before making any moves. She was gentle and slow, giving you plenty of time to say no or to pause as she redesigned what it meant to be intimate.
Long fingers pulled through your folds, touching you for the first time in a way you had been craving but never let yourself have. She passed over your clit but didn’t focus her attention there, not yet, as she reveled in the feeling of you on her skin. Emily peppered kisses onto your cheeks and lips, praising you for how amazing you felt.
“I want to taste you, can I taste you?” Emily asked against your ear, her warm breath sending a shiver down your spine as her fingers spent more and more time circling your clit. You hesitated for just a moment, but then remembered that it was Emily kissing you, that it was Emily touching you.
“Yes, Emily. Please,” you begged, giving her permission.
Warm lips trailed down your neck and to your chest, pressing loving kisses everywhere she had already marked with stinging teeth. As she traveled down your stomach, your breath caught in your throat, the sensation unfamiliar. Emily immediately pulled back, looking up at you.
“Is this okay? Do you need to stop?”
You shook your head and encouraged her to keep going, telling her that you were just a little nervous. Emily thought for a moment before grabbing your hand, interlocking your fingers, and giving them a squeeze.
“You say stop and we stop, okay? And if you can’t say it, I want you to squeeze my hand three times and it all ends immediately. You’re in control. This is about you and your pleasure, okay?”
You nod your head once more as heat blooms in your cheeks. This was for you, Emily was doing this for you. She wouldn’t take from you what she wanted, she wouldn’t stay ignorant to you just to satisfy her own needs. Emily was safe.
Kisses began to drop on your thighs, teeth sinking into the sensitive skin there making you whine. It felt so good, she felt so good. Your free hand cupped the back of Emily’s head, trailing through her dark locks.
“I’m going to keep kissing you and move closer. I’m going to take it slow unless you tell me to go faster.”
“Okay, yes.”
True to her word, Emily kissed closer and closer on each of your thighs before pressing kisses to each of your lips. Slowly, she begins to suck them into her mouth, lavishing attention with her tongue on the sensitive skin there. You felt heat bloom on your chest and a deep moan rumbled in your chest. Her touch was soft but not too soft, it was the perfect blend of pressure and movement. As she got her first taste of you, as she felt you smear against her cheeks and chin, you could hear in her hums just how much she was enjoying herself.
“I’m going to keep using my tongue and I’m going to go a little deeper. I’m going to touch your clit. If that feels good for you and you don’t stop me, I’m going to use my lips and tongue to make you come. Can I do that?”
It may be clunky the way that Emily was telling you every single step but there was nothing more comforting than knowing exactly what was going to happen before it happened, to have no surprises.
“Yes, Emily. Yes.”
Her warm tongue pulled through your folds, lapping up the wetness there. She moaned into you once more, mumbling into your core just how good you tasted. Her tongue found your clit, first touching it hesitantly before licking firmer and firmer circles until your hips started to move under her touch. She had watched you touch yourself like this many times and she replicated near-perfectly what she knew you liked.
“Emily, oh,” you whimpered into the air, giving yourself to the pleasure that was washing over you. It felt like molten honey was traveling through your veins, thick and warm, sweet and slow. Emily smiled against you before pulling your clit into her mouth, sucking while still circling with her tongue.
You could feel the tightening in your lower belly, your abs straining and your legs closing closer and closer on Emily’s head. Pressing your hips down further onto Emily’s mouth, you desperately tried to get yourself to climax.
“More, Emily. Please, I need more.”
Immediately Emily added more pressure, sucking a little harder and circling a little firmer, bringing you right to the edge. Feeling you beginning to throb under her touch, Emily moaned against you, the vibrations enough to send you spiraling. Your grip on Emily tightened, pulling her hair harshly and turning her knuckles white with your grip. Her name fell from your lips just above a whisper, strain grating in your throat as every muscle in your body clenched, careening you over the edge. Just like her touch, your high was gentle, flooding your brain with endorphins and making the edges of your skin tingle.
Emily lapped at you until you returned from orbit, kitten licks and kisses covering your still pulsating center, only stopping when she felt your hands loosen. With one final kiss, Emily pulled away and crawled back up your body, laying beside you with a leg draped over yours, hovering over you with one arm resting on the bed and the other idly tracing patterns on your shoulder.
“How was that? How are you feeling?” Emily asked, a hint of concern twinkling behind her lust-blown eyes.
Instead of answering her, you pulled her in for a kiss, tasting yourself on her lips. Your hands gripped her back, bringing her to lay more fully on you, needing that pressure of her body against yours. Tucking your head into the crook of her beck, you place a series of kisses there and tightened your arms around her waist.
“Thank you, Emily. Thank you so much.” Your voice was quiet, shaky, and filled with emotion. Emily kissed the side of your head and pulled back. She opened her mouth, ready to check in with you once more, needing that reassurance that you were okay.
“Emily, that was perfect,” you said, interrupting her before she could even begin. “You did a great job and once we got going, I wasn’t afraid at all. You made me feel so safe and damn are you good at that.”
Emily laughed dropping her head to hide the blush that was rising on her cheeks. You tilted her head back up, wanting to see your girlfriend fiancee, wanting to catalog this moment so that you would never forget. Her dark hair was mussed, sticking up where your hands gripped her. There was a shine of liquid smeared on her cheeks which you moved to wipe away and her lips were a brighter red, a tantalizing red.
“I’m so proud of you, sweetheart,” Emily said, catching you off guard. “Thank you so much for giving me this gift, for trusting me with this. Thank you for being brave enough to try.”
Emotion choked in your throat, overwhelmed with how happy you were to have such a loving, attentive partner.
“I love you, Emily. Thank you for giving this back to me. Thank you for loving me enough to respect my boundaries and giving me a place where I could feel safe enough to want this.”
Emily moved to lay next to you, kissing you on your lips and then your forehead, much like she always did when it was time to sleep. You pulled back and gave Emily a smirk.
“Oh, no no, miss thing. We are not done here,” you said, gripping at Emily’s waist, pulling her in for a kiss. The raven-haired woman laughed into your mouth as you rolled on top of her and started kissing all over her face. Your legs slotted between hers and you pressed your thigh against her, letting her grind against you.
“Mmm, yes, I need to repay you for the most perfect birthday I have ever had.” Kisses and bites punctuated your words, tugging at her skin and leaving red marks, knowing that she liked it a little more rough. You sucked marks into her collarbones as she writhed and whimpered beneath you, keening gasps dripping from her lips.
“My girl,” you whispered against her skin, biting the skin of her breasts. “My wife.”
As the new title rolled off your tongue, Emily gasped, her hands flying to grip at your back, nails digging in, straddling the line between pain and pleasure. She arched into your touch, urging you forward, moaning when you sucked a particularly dark mark on the swell of her breast.
“I don’t have a ring to give you yet, this will have to do.”
Emily laughed a little at your remark but immediately sobered as you tugged a hard nipple between your teeth.
“Yes, don’t stop, that feels so good,” Emily gasped into the air above her, loving the sting of your bite on her sensitive skin–especially when she could feel it as her clothes rubbed against each mark in the days to come. “I’m yours, all yours.”
Emily had always been a little possessive, definitely showboating in front of other women who gave you a little too much attention and absolutely loving it when you called her yours. It must have had a lot to do with never quite feeling like she belonged somewhere for most of her life, of never quite feeling like she had someone in her corner. Even her own family shrugged her off to nannies and boarding schools. So when you left blooming bruises and bite marks on her skin, reminding her that she is all yours, that you are hers, it made butterflies erupt in her stomach and her toes curl. You didn’t own each other, you hadn’t staked your claim, but you had found a home in each other, you had found a place to belong, you had found someone to carry your heart as if it was their own.
“I want to use the strap tonight,” you said, pulling yourself away and sitting on your heels. “Can we do that?” You trailed your hands up and down her torso, gliding against her sweat-slicked skin. Emily immediately started nodding her head, smiling excitedly.
“Yes, absolutely yes,” she replied, reaching her hands to rub up and down your thighs.
With a little more enthusiasm than she had expected, you bounded off the bed to get the harness from the closet. Emily sat up on her elbows, watching you intently like a hawk zeroing in on her prey. Her eyes were hooded, pupils blown, mouth dropped open as her chest heaved ever so slightly. The sight of you was intoxicating and Emily wanted all of it.
“I can’t concentrate when you look at me like that,” you chuckled towards her as you fumbled with the harness, pulling it up your legs as if you hadn’t done it a million times.
“Good, I like it when you’re flustered.” Emily’s voice was deep, seductive. Sex dripped from her words and it shot electricity straight to your core.
“Be a good girl and come pick which dick you want me to fuck you with,” you called over your shoulder, taunting Emily. She immediately scrambled off the bed and came to stand behind you, molding herself against your back, making your skin touch in as many places as it could. Long arms snaked around your waist and she trailed her hands up and down the straps crossing your hips. After only a few moments, she hummed before tucking your hair behind your ear and leaning in close.
“That one,” she husked, pointing to her favorite. Then, her wet tongue traced the shell of your ear, teeth grazing your soft skin, nipping as you pushed your ass back against her. You picked up her choice and she grabbed it from you, threading it through the harness herself. As you tightened the straps to your hips once more, her teeth found your shoulder, biting hard as she began to stroke your dick, pushing the base against your clit with every push and pull. You dropped your head back and moaned before straightening up and turning in her embrace.
“Get your ass back on that bed, Prentiss,” you growled into the air, spinning her around and giving her a playful swat on her ass.
“Ma’am, yes ma’am,” Emily said with a salute, making you laugh as you continued to push at her shoulders until she was lying back in the bed.
“You’re such a goof,” you said, crawling on top of her. “You really should take me more seriously.”
“Oh, and why would that–” you interrupted her by crashing your lips against hers, teeth clacking together as you finally shut down her sass. You reached between your bodies and felt just how wet she was, groaning into her mouth. As your touch on her clit became more firm, she began to rock her hips against you which you took as a sign to push one and then two fingers inside her, opening her up and getting her ready.
“You feel so good on my fingers, baby. Are you this wet just for me?”
Emily moaned, hips jerking forward at your touch. Removing your fingers from her body, you reached for the lube on the nightstand and slathered some up and down the toy.
“Yes, just for you,” she cried into the air. “More, please, I want you inside me.”
Without a second thought, you reached down and lined yourself up, pushing slowly into her as her legs reached up to wrap around you, holding you tight against her body. Your motions were slow and tortuous, teasing her as she pushed against you, trying to gain control of the pace.
“Ah, ah, ah,” you chided, “I’m the one in charge here.”
Emily whined and brought her hands up to smooth up and down your back.
“If you want more, you’re going to have to beg me for it.”
Emily’s face flamed a bright red and you knew you finally had her right where you wanted her. She kept her mouth shut, trying valiantly to resist.
“Come on, Emily. You know you want to be good for me. I know how badly you want me to fuck you. All you have to do is say please,” you taunted, circling your hips and reaching down to pinch at her clit gently, knowing the stimulation would be enough to get what you wanted.
“Please, baby, please. I need you to go faster. I need more.”
That’s my girl,” you said with a kiss to her lips, dropping onto your forearms so you could slam into her, pushing her into the mattress. Emily whined and began to claw at your back, short, high-pitched moans stuttering from her chest with every thrust. You could feel just how much she wanted this, you could smell just how badly she needed this.
As you felt her walls pulsate around your dick, you knew she was close to the edge. She snaked a hand between your bodies and started to circle her clit, the contact making her keen and bite into your shoulder. Within moments, her body went taught and her legs around your hips began to tremble. A guttural moan ripped from her chest and her nails clawed at your shoulder blade hard enough you swear she could have drawn blood.
“Yes, baby. You’re so pretty when you come for me. That’s it, just like that,” you panted as her eyes screwed shut and she rode the last wave of her climax, her voice gravelly as she chanted your name over and over again.
As her body began to relax, you felt the burn of your muscles and as soon as her hand returned to your back, you dropped on top of her, kissing at her neck. With both hands touching you once more, you finally felt connected to Emily in a way that you had always craved. Tonight you had finally broken that last barrier between you both and you couldn’t help but start to cry as you became overwhelmed with emotion.
Emily rubbed your back gently, soothing the sting of where her nails had scratched at your skin. Once she felt the warm droplets fall onto her shoulder, her hands stopped in favor of threading in your har.
“Honey, are you okay?”
You nodded into her neck, pressing soft kisses there. “I’m just so overwhelmed that I get to be with you for the rest of my life. I love you so much, Emily. I love you so much.”
Emily tightened her grip on your back, still stroking your hair. “I love you, too. I have never loved someone like I love you and I can’t wait to go on this journey with you.”
With a kiss to Emily’s lips, you finally rolled off of her and clumsily took the harness off, throwing it into the dirty toy bin and walking into the bathroom for some warm rags. You cleaned yourself first and then brought a clean one and a soft towel back into the bedroom. Emily’s thighs fell open as you knelt between her legs and took care to help clean up the mess you had made reverently. A shaky hand reached down to touch your arm, making you look up at the woman that you one day soon would call your wife.
“You’re too good to me,” Emily sighed, her eyes struggling to stay open. You patted her dry with the towel and chucked both pieces of cloth carelessly towards the hamper when Emily started making grabby hands at you. She pulled you back into the bed and wrapped herself around, kissing the side of your head several times, making you giggle.
“God, I love the sound of your laugh,” Emily said, the look on her face leaving no doubt in your mind that if hearts could be swirling over her head right now, they would be.
You snuggled in closer, tugging the blanket that was bunched on your side of the bed over your spent bodies.
“I love you, Emily,” you said, laying your head on her chest.
“I love you, too. Happy Birthday,” Emily returned, your name rolling off her tongue delectably as you both drifted off into sleep.

Iv's Birthday and Milestone Celebration (part one)
Tumblr media
Hi everyone!!! It's that time of year again!! Ya girl is turning 23 and celebrating another follower milestone by hosting not one, but TWO fic events over the next two months!
The birthday prompts writing challenge starts NOW and ends on February 26th at 10 pm EST.
These prompts are all birthday or February themed, but feel free to write them into anything you'd like! If there is a prompt you would like to write for this event, please feel free!
Another set of prompts will be released on February 28th after the birthday festivities have died down and will run until March 28th (which just so happens to be the day I was supposed to be born)
More info and rules below the cut! Feel free to send me an ask or a message if you have more questions that aren't answered below.
All submission must be a sapphic (including nblw) pairing. Emily Prentiss x Reader fics will be given extra brownie points ;) but I am also accepting submissions from the following (stand alone names indicate x-reader):
Criminal Minds
Alex Blake; Penemily; Temily; Jemily; Jormily; Emilex; Tenemily; any other sapphic Emily ship that isn't listed.
Station 19

Rules
All submissions should aim to be at least 500 words (though less is okay), no more than 10,000.
Anything over 1000 words must include a keep reading/readmore
The following information should be at the start of the fic/above the cut: Title; Pairing; Warnings (trigger and content warnings must be included when applicable; if it's smut, mark it 18+); and a Short Description which includes tagging me, @sweetprentiss.
In the tags, please use iv's birthday writing challenge 2022 🎂on every submission.
Minors can participate, but can only submit SFW fics.
You've got a little less than a month for this first set of prompts, which I know may be a quick turn around, but please don't stress about it :) This is supposed to be something fun for all of us :)
Even if you have never written before or never participated in a bingo before, please feel free to submit something! I promise that whatever you can create will be wonderful :)
