ah. this is a bit of a heavy subject for me, so imma put my answer under a cut.

i will preface this by saying i do not want whyte/non-mediterranean opinions on this, but i do not like the way the ancients of colour are portrayed villains (with the exception of erich, who is effectively tokenized by being the only Good Ancient of Colour due to laha and hermes both being villains.) also, as a mediterranean person, i find it kinda silly that se didn't melanate more of the main cast (i firmly stand on the ground that hyth should've been a bit darker to balance things out but w/e; s.e has repeatedly made their stance on hating black and brown people abundantly clear. as a result, i will continue rubbing my half-black mediterranean hands all over hyth, sorry not sorry.) like. it's super frusturating that given their heavy greek coding, none of the main cast of ancients look even remotely like me or anyone ive seen skintonewise despite greeks and egyptians having a lot of shared heritage (altho hyth, emet, and hermes DO have facial features that remind me of ppl back home which i love, but their skintones are far too light and/or washed out for my comfort.) to begin with, depicting mediterranean people as either super light or super dark is an absolutely insane premise when u consider that a large number of us are olive - medium brown, but w/e. i guess what im saying here is that if ur going to make greek-coded fantasy people, do it with ur whole titty and do it correctly 😭

other than that, hyth being underdeveloped and not having a lot of a lore is sad, yes, but it's also standard proceduere for side characters in xiv. most of what i've come up with, i've had to build by myself. the game itself also really struggles with meaningful character development anyway so i knew what i signed up for, basically.

ok i gotta talk abt my bg3 playthough w/o twitters character limit cuz this has been on my mind

SO im at the beginning of act 2, into the shadow cursed lands. got through the beginning just fine, went to the last light inn, did all that, prevented isobel from being abducted (which im v proud of cuz i killed a handful of the winged beasts or w/e they were called and had cast lightning bolt to take some down, but then i realized u lost the encounter if isobel got knocked out and was like "well im not wasting a lv. 3 spell slot on this fight if shes just gonna get taken anyway" which quickly became "well in that case im not fuckin letting her get taken then!!!" and it took me 2 lightning bolts and astarion being downed like 4 times but i DID IT)

*ahem* anyway, i prevented isobel from being abducted, and the mission after that is finding out how the cultists traverse the shadow curse and doing the whole ambush. NOW i already knew there was a dialogue w/ kar'niss cuz ive seen clips from "evil" playthroughs where ppl were interqacting w/ him and ive also seen ppl simping for him (and just for the record: smash) so after just letting the ambush happen and initiating battle and seeing his level and hp, i was like "lets see if theres an easier way to do this"

so i reloaded and decided to make myself known. i lied that the absolute protected me and told kar'niss that she wanted me to have his lanturn, then told him to go on. cuz im a sorcerer, i took the option to fake a protection spell on them, and man. i did not fucking expect kar'niss' screams to be so gut-wrenching. my heart dropped hearing him plead. i dont regret it and i will be doing the same thing on future playthroughs where possible cuz its the easiest solution but that was. hard. to listen to. so now canonically thats the first time in the whole adventure that my tav felt actually sick abt something he did. i havent had a long rest since but ive decided that hes gonna have a convo w/ the companions like "i dont regret what i did, it got us what we needed without a fight, but i think that driders screams are going to haunt me for a long time." (but astarion and shadowheart approved so my boys gonna get some ~reassurance~ lmao)

and like. ive made it to the town whose name im forgetting and come across the toll collector and made her kill herself too and felt normal afterwards so its not that i made him basically kill himself, its specifically the sound of his screams that got me

also when i realized they showed back up as shadow cursed creatures right outside the toll house i reloaded again and went up onto the roof and just had astarion shoot them all from a distance. didnt even enter initiative w/ them AND it got us all to lv. 7. ty astarion, my hero *mwah*

and finally (and i did talk abt this on twitter but still) we found arabella at the gates to the graveyard. this fuckin kid. the first thing she does when we approach her is show off some INCANTATIONLESS MAGIC which immediately impresses the FUCK outta my sorcerer ass, tells me her parents are missing (and like. they were dead. i already knew they were gonna be dead. finding the bodies just confirmed it), THEN arabella tells me the only ppl she trusts are herself, her parents, and me, and tops this all off by calling me "hero-man" and running off to my camp like. congrats on the new big brother kiddo youve got him wrapped around your finger already. were both mephistopheles tieflings (presumably. she is also blue skinned), were both magic, like cmon. thats my tavs kid sister

and speaking of finding her parents bodies, actually, the whole conversation w/ the nurse "tending" to them is just...profoundly sad. i ended up choosing the deception choice and saying like "oh i see now, theyre deeply asleep" and the nurse says like "i knew these hands wouldnt fail me" like oh...sweetie...no...

(that didnt quite hit me like kar'niss' screaming did, it just left me feeling sad. for her, for the whole situation. i havent gone back to camp to tell arabella yet, im still 'splorin)

also i found the true love rings. ofc i put one on astarion and the other on my tav. i havent even got to the true confession yet lmao. you dont even know how excited i am for that. god i such a fuckin simp

OH SHIT ONE LAST THOUGHT: I GOT TO FUCKING HUG KARLACH!!!!!!!! LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

you have NO IDEA how happy i was when she got the upgrade and one of the options was "pull her into a hug" i was sat there SCREAMING in joy for a solid 30 seconds before actually doing it, and then a further 2 minutes after LMAO

i just wish there was an option to pull dammon in on the hug. man deserves it. we love this dude

its my step grandads funeral tmrw and honestly i feel guilty bc i dont feel bad or sad or anything even tho i knew him vaguely well. like ive always seen my grandma more than him but like ive seen him more than my blood grandad atleast and hes been one of the ppl who have been a fairly constantish presence. but like im not grieving and im not sad im just like. idk. normal. but ig bc this is normal for me bc like its all well and good saying hes dead but its like. like if nobody had told me i wouldnt know any better bc i only see him once every few months or w/e so like. i mean the last time i saw him was christmas and between then and like a few weeks ago when he died i didnt see him at all so like. that was half a year w/o seeing him so it was just. idk. like he was 100% a much better person than my grandad bc i was actually kinda happy when my grandad died bc he was an awful awful man and the reason my dad is an awful man too and he was just so bad. and i mean i dont feel guilty 4 feeling happy abt that bc like. yknow. but i do feel guilty 4 just being sorta. uncaring abt my step grandads death. bc he was a nice person and hed tell us jokes that made no sense and hed eat his food so incredibly slowly wed run out of conversation topics at dinner and hed spoil me n my siblings by buying us shit and hed pretty much just always be smiling and like. he wasnt some hero he wasnt some great amazing grandfather who was always there and who i could always trust and love and he wasnt some guy i looked up to as a role model or got excited when he was around or loved seeing but he was nice and like. being nice is enough. he never knew he had a trans step grandkid tho. oh my god. im gonna meet his blood family tmrw. for the first time. at his funeral. thats gonna b awkward. i dont actually know if he ever had any kids or grandkids. i know he has a sister i think but thats all i know. and i mean im calling him my step grandad but he wasnt rlly bc he n my grandma only dated but he was definitely more of a grandad than my actual grandad. idk. i think i just feel weird bc like. i mean its at the exact same venue as where my grandads funeral was. my grandma picked both times which seems a little weird. bc its like shes equating her ex and her partner to the same standards but. idk. idk what im gonna do tmrw anyways bc at my grandads funeral i was pretty much just bored bc all the adults n stuff were making conversation n i was there in my school uniform bc it was during the school day and i just played hide n seek w my siblings in the garden of that place but likeee. i mean idk i might just go on my phone or smth. listen to some riptide. might take my camera n take some photos bc its a fairly pretty place.

as a trans man those posts do fucking bother me and it kinda sucks that like. idk. even our own community seems to hate us and you cant really speak up about it without someone calling you oversensitive or saying youre being oppressive. like to be a "good" transmasc you have to just smile and nod when other lgbt people are saying youre Inherently Awful lest you be a Horrible Oppressive Man

it is a REALLY thin tightrope to walk bc of course i know trans men who act exactly like cis men, of course i know trans men who talk over trans women bc like. it happens all the time and its super fucking shitty of them! so i dont want to make it sound like “the evil trans women are picking on the softboi trans men” bc thats reductive and mean

at the same time tho some ppl genuinely hate trans men MORE than cis men and im sry but thats JUST transphobia. like thats it. i think the common reasons for this are:

some ppl think trans men ‘chose to be oppressors’ (this is usually cis ppl in my experience)

some ppl think trans men were hotter before transitioning

some trans ppl are shitty to each other bc they dont understand why someone would give up s/t that they really really want. i had a friend tell me that for a while she hated me because my pre-transition self was actually her transition goals.... which i applaud her honesty but it also gutted me to hear. i think that sort of thing can happen on both sides (ive seen trans dudes say this to trans women too and like. dont do that).

i think some cis women see trans men and get disgusted bc of internalized shit. like most of the mean comments ive gotten about my transition were from cis woman friends who felt the need to tell me my body hair was gross or w/e.

some ppl think testosterone is evil / gives you roid rage (ive seen trans women say that this belief hurts some of them, too. like if you believe one hormone is The Evil Hormone, what does that say to trans women who arent on HRT? this is a point i wouldnt have considered but i want to highlight it here)

so obviously i dont think theres a conspiracy against trans men lol, i think its just complicated and ppl can hold these beliefs without realizing they hold them. it still sucks tho and if you notice any of these thought patterns within yourself, you should try to be critical about them.

highlights of trick or treating 2021!!

an old guy at the end of my street was like “do u live a few houses down?” n i didnt wanna give away who i was so i was like “i live a lil ways down tht way :o” n he was like “oh, cuz theres a young lady who walks around a few houses down. must’ve mistaken u 4 her”

got a few compliments on my witch outfit despite it jus being the same as every yr (clothes from my closet n a witch hat + 2 spider rings i got last yr while trick or treating)

i saw a girl in a nezuko from k!metsu costume!!!! i complimented her n she said thanks but i was jus like holy shit!!

a lady who’d commented on my long nails like every yr saw me n went “!!! YOU CUT UR NAILS!!?” n i was like “oh u recognized me?” n she said yea, bc my long hair, then asked if id gotten a job bc “i remember u said u’d hav 2 cut them off soon bc u were hunting 4 a job soon” n i said no i dont hav 1. i complimented her googly eyes on her hat n she said she had spider stuff 4 her costume as a spider but it broke rip ;w;

some guy saw me from across the stree n said “ill be at the pink (? couldnt quite hear what word was used) house in a second!” n i was like “pink house?” n he was like “u visit our house every yr”. i didnt see him again tht night.

2 young adult ladies dancing or moving around in their driveway next 2 the other ppl w them handing out candy n their friend saying “look ur gonna scare/r scaring the children.” n i was like “i think they look cool! ^^” n they thanked me haha

a lady giving out candy w some1 was wearing a mimikyu hoodie n when i saw her put up her hood, i said “!! mimikyu!” n pointed at her hoodie n her n the lady w the candy bowl were like “yea!” “ur the 1st 1 2 hav guessed tht right all night! u can hav a handful of candy 4 tht” n the lady n i got talking n i was like “whats ur fav pk/mn game?” n she said sapphire 2 which i said “black n white. gen 5 stan here” n she said cool n she was like “r u excited 4 the new game?” n i said “the games r p expensive n i dont rly play as much anymore BUT hav u seen the new h!shuian z0rua” n she was like “!! yes! i jus wanna [makes a hugging gesture]” but then we were interrupted by a kid coming up 2 trick or treat so i had 2 say bye ;w;

a guy? gave me a real estate business card?? after giving me candy he was like “would u like a/my card?” n i was like “yes..?” bc i didnt wanna say no n b rude so he handed me it n said it was real estate n i was like “im not Old sir,,” (bc he was under the guise tht i was a Teen bc i was trick or treating so.. ???) n he jus had me take it anyway then asked where i was from (bc he mentioned smth abt like “ur voice..” or smth like tht) n i said “...america?” n he jus said ok in like an awkward way

a guy was like “trick... or treat?” n i was like “well, treat i should think! :o” n he was like “very well, since u r 1 of the Finer ppl (4got what word he said) ive seen 2nite, u shall get a treat” n i was like “thank u! or, actually, Thank You, My Liege [bows head slightly]” n he was like “thank u, milady”. n idk what was up w tht exchange but he spoke so like, oddly cryptic n fancy-soundin or w/e. idk why tht happened. i found it kinda cute tho!

when i went 2 my old english teacher’s house, i purposefully took off my glasses right b4 answering the door so she wouldnt b able 2 tell it was Me mayb, bc last time, either i purposefully said hi 2 her or she recognized me or both gjshnd

1 of the houses had 1 of those HUUUGE towering skeletons in their yard!

there was a house w lil bags tht had the church website n a phrase on the front n id gotten 1 of those from a house earlier so i assumed they were treat bags so i jus grabbed 1 w/o ringing the doorbell or anything n when i checked inside, there was a mini plastic checkers set n a small pastel blue n pink soft plush bunny? :o tht’s A Lot for a halloween treat bag whoa
