Hello! It’s my distinct pleasure to welcome you all to UshiIwa hell! I’ve been malingering here for years, but with new developments in canon, it looks like I am no longer stuck on Gilligan’s Island (me plus the six other sad bastards i’m stranded with).

As a long time sufferer of this ship, I would like to introduce you to some of my favorite UshiIwa stories, including a few of my own bc tag smol. :’)

Cordially Uninvited by Karasuno Volleygays (that’s me) Tags: No Archive Warnings Apply, Possible Current Manga Spoilers, Established Relationship, Paparazzi Summary: Paparazzi haunting notable people has always been a problem, but Hajime and Wakatoshi opt to clear the air on their own terms. Words: 1,279 Chapters: 1/1 My notes: I thought it would be interesting to see how Ushijima would deal with celebrity and subsequently strangers poking their noses in his personal business.

He knew for a fact, since he’s stolen it enough times, that the hoodie was fuzzy and soft on the inside. Beside them lay a steaming cup of tea, the bag still steeping inside as they liked their tea strong, and the aforementioned throw lay comfortably across their lap. A perfect image of warm and cozy.

There was more lighting on the bottom floor, as it was closer to the illuminating street lamps outside, so he was able to make out exactly who the man was within mere seconds despite the face still being quite shadowed. And the identity shocked him into stilling every joint, muscle and fiber of his being.

Focus (On Me) by Verbrennung Tags: Underage, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Ushijima is a 1st year, lots of staring, and looming, and crowding, Seijou!Ushijima, rated for ~makin' out~ Summary: Nobody had foreseen future Super Ace Ushijima Wakatoshi transferring from Shiratorizawa to Aoba Johsai for high school. Everyone's curious to know why, and as Iwaizumi discovers, some of his reasons are... unexpected.

An AU in which everything is mostly the same except Ushijima is a first year at Aoba Johsai and has a huge, looming crush on Iwaizumi. Words: 12,454 Chapters: 1/1 My notes: This should probably be rated T instead, but whatever. If you ever wanted to know how much of an awkward bastard both of them are when they’re into someone, this is your jam.

Point Blank by Karasuno Volleygays Tags: No Archive Warnings Apply, Future Fic, Brief (but pertinent) Mention of Homophobia, Slow Burn, Financial shenanigans, Scary Men with Guns, Minor Character Death Summary: Iwaizumi Hajime accepted a position at a company that was going places, and he knew he had a bright future ahead of him if he just kept his head down and worked hard — a future his family desperately needed him to achieve. He didn't count on an old rival working in the same building, nor Ushijima Wakatoshi's surprisingly cordial demeanor, yet he managed to make an unlikely friend and an even more unlikely roommate.

But when Iwaizumi climbed up the company ladder and into some of the more shadowy recesses of the corporate realm, he knew they would both get more than they bargained for, and the only person he knew he could trust was Ushijima. Words: 44,981 Chapters: 12/12 My notes: This was my first UshiIwa and I still think about it a lot. Imagining these guys in regular jobs is strange, but kind of endearing when you get a feel for how they live their lives after volleyball.

Wakatoshi stares down at the empty coast line as the storm rages. Flashes of lightning turn his windows to mirrors and crashes of thunder threaten to shatter the lighthouse with him inside it. The storm has been raging on for nearly three nights now and he can only hope that everyone in town had made it out safely. Lightning flashes again and he looks away from his reflection in the glass.

He doesn’t need to see how haggard he looks. It hasn’t been just the storm itself that’s kept him awake the last few days and he looks about as worn down as he feels.

No one had ever said being the lighthouse keeper around here would be easy.

A loud crack cuts through the air and he sighs. It’s going to be another long night.

He stands on the beach, rain and wind lashing at him, and stares up at the shipwreck. He was good at his job but really? This was the fourth time in as many days.

“You cannot keep doing this,” he calls out. The wind rips his voice from him as soon as it leaves his lips but he knows he can be heard loud and clear. “It is improper.”

Candle light flickers into existence throughout the wreck and he sighs; ever the romantic his love was.

Something rumbles into existence a few steps away and he banishes it with a cool look and a flick of his fingers. The stuff crawling onto the beach tonight is barely worth his time but he is nothing if not diligent. A couple more rounds of creatures and things he doesn’t really feel examining close enough to put a name to crawl into his sight and he sends them back to where they came from with utmost efficiency. And a very minimal amount of ooze and grossness.

“I just love watching you work.” He barely glances up at the wreck when he hears Hajime’s voice. “All those muscles and that movement. You’re like a dancer.” Something shifts in the sand to his left and he turns to the side and sends it back with a twist of his wrist. “A deadly dancer. But still beautiful.”

“You are very transparent tonight.” He finally looks up at Hajime’s snort of laughter. Hajime holds up his hand and Wakatoshi rolls his eyes when he can easily see the masts and lines through it. “I meant it as in you are not being subtle. But you are being particularly see-through as well.”

“I’m a little untethered tonight, it’s true.” Hajime gestures for Wakatoshi to join him on deck and Wakatoshi shakes his head. “Come on. You know you’re the only thing that can anchor me.”

“You know that’s not my duty here Hajime.”

Hajime smirks and hops down into the sand next to him. “I guess if you won’t join me I’ll have to join you.”

“You need to be careful Wakatoshi,” Satori says. Their connection sucks with the storms outside but he can still hear his friend well enough. “He’s not what you think he is.”

“I know what he is.”

“He’s not just some ghostly ship captain you know.”

“Yes. I know.”

“Of all the people I know you are the last I expected to start shacking up with someone like him.”

“What can I say?” Wakatoshi stares out the window as watches as lightning flashes and a ship wrecks itself upon the shore. “I like his tenacity.”

“You like his weird water god demon abs don’t even pretend otherwise.”

“I can like both.”

Waves break upon the shore as Hajime’s ship flickers to life.

“He’s there isn’t he? Ugh. Go. Frolic with your half-corporeal boy toy. Call me when the storms let up.”

Wakatoshi hangs up and grabs his jacket before leaving the lighthouse to make his way to the shore.

“One of these days,” Hajime says, hand cool against Wakatoshi’s cheek, “I’ll get you to come with me.”

Wakatoshi leans into the cool touch and smiles. “You know I cannot. The lighthouse keeper cannot run away just because some nice boy flirts with him.” Hajime snorts. “I have duties you know.”

Hajime wiggles his brows. “Am I one of those duties?”

“You are a perk of the job that I appreciate greatly.” The rain pours and thunder crashes, sounds muted outside the cave their curled up in. Hajime sighs and starts collecting his thing to venture back out into the storm. Wakatoshi doesn’t want him to go, he never really wants to let him go, but he knows he has to. For now at least.

“One day,” Hajime says over his shoulder. Lightning flashes and Wakatoshi can see the shore light up through Hajime. Then Hajime steps into the storm and he’s gone.

“One day,” Wakatoshi agrees.

He takes his time. Once the storms die down he heads into town and gets a hold of old friends. He makes his plans and sets them in motion, diligent as always, and when the weather shifts again he’s ready.

He watches from the lighthouse as the storm rages and the lightning flashes through the sky and the wind batters the waves against the shore.

Thunder cracks through the night and he smiles at the sound.

He makes his way down the to shoreline, wades through the creatures and dismisses those that get in his way without pause. Hajime watches him, eyes alight with amusement, as he flicks his wrist and sends them back.

“Once again. I love watching you work.” Hajime looks down at him and holds out his hand. “Wanna climb on board?”

Wakatoshi raises his brows. “You or your ship?”

“Yes.” Hajime grins at him.

Wakatoshi smiles back. “Permission to come aboard, Captain?”

Hajime sobers and stares down at him, body flickering in and out of solidity. “Me or my ship?”

“Yes.”

“Really? You’re coming with? Like for real?” The sand squelches beside him and Wakatoshi ends the creature’s existence before it even raises it’s scaly arm. “What about all of this?”

“You need me with you more than they need me here.” The air behind him crackles wildly and he laughs softly. He knows Hajime can hear him even through the storm. “Besides. There’s a new lighthouse keeper. My contract is up here.” He ignores the squelches and crackles and wild laughter behind him at stares into Hajime’s eyes. “What do you say? Do you have room for one more up on that ship?”

Hajime’s gaze turns sharp and serious. “There’s a price to pay. To come aboard this ship.”

Wakatoshi shrugs. “You have had my heart for centuries already. Might as well accept my soul as well.”

Hajime waves him up. His fingers go cold as he climbs aboard, magic in his soul leaking out of him and into the ship. His legs feel weak as he pulls himself onto the deck. His blood is sluggish in his veins as he stands straight and looks into the eyes of his love.

“Welcome aboard.” Hajime pulls Wakatoshi in for a kiss. “Let’s set sail,” he mutters, breath cool against Wakatoshi’s frozen numb lips.
