okay round 2 for some more common fic tropes, huh? i mean, there's a lot of them floating around, so keep them coming if you wanna hear me ramble about tropes for a bit.

soulmates au

hmm... i really don't know how to feel about this one. i've always seen soulmates prompts out there and i have like... one wip regarding soulmates, but i really don't consider this one very much in the grand scheme of trope writing. it's never really crossed my mind as a trope to write, personally. it’s so hard to justify it in a doyalist sense, so it’s not my preferred kind of prompt

i'll rate this one d tier. i really wouldn't pick this over literally anything else, but i've read one (1) good tkrb izumutsu soulmates au. it's not impossible to write a good one, but there are a lot of systemic problems baked into the foundation i don't want to deal with.

outsider pov

anon let me be frank: i had to look up what this one meant since i don't really interact with this trope/style of writing. one would assume it's exactly what it says on the tin, but hey, you never know.

i'll rate this one c tier. since i don't really interact with it very much, i don't have an opinion on it. i'm sure a good writer would be able to write it well, but since the fics i tend to read is in a third person limited point of view, it's not really something i tend to read.

friends to lovers

good ole friends to lovers, a classic, a staple of love triangles and other contrivances for character a to get with character b. i don’t hate them! i actually kinda like them since it’s sort of... grounded? i always liked the grounded approach imo, since it’s easy to read.

i’ll rate this one b tier. a lot of the stuff i tend to write romantically tends to be in the ballpark of “friends + romantic relationship”, not necessitating “one os better than the other“. i have characters who are queerplatonic partners, friends with benefits, just friends, and friends and romantic partners. just make sure that it’s not “oh friends always end up in romantic relationships!“ and i’m all good.

there was only one bed

another staple of contrivances, i see! this one is fun since it can end in finally confessing or just a build up of more unresolved tension. it’s even more fun if neither character can spit it out but then end up in this situation regardless of how they feel.

i’ll rate this one b tier. i like it, but it requires some set up/emotional investment, but when it’s done well, i’m all over that shit.=.

ok. so i didn’t ship them but then, but then, I watched Katsugeki aaaaand

RIVALS TO LOVERS the bickering, oh man, the bickering, and the banter, Mutsu’s growing concern for him AND THEN MUTSU SAVING HIS LIFE DIVING IN AFTER HIM (that scene was fucking beautiful, honestly Katsugi has some really beautiful scenes, I love the aesthetic of it), and then, AND THEN, fucking Mutsu following him around and getting more and more obviously jealous and agitated as he asks every member of their team back to the team but him and then AND THEN THAT EXPLOSION, THAT ABSOLUTE FUCKING TANTRUM HE THREW IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE TEAM ASKING WHY HE WASN’T ASKED AND DID THAT MEAN IZUMINOKAMI DOESN’T WANT HIM?

But yeah, they’re great in toumyu and tousute too, i love their dynamic, either as friends who bicker or as a couple who bicker. their relationship growth in Katsugeki was also just 👌👌👌👌👌

Izumutsu y muestras de afecto.

Kanesan no es precisamente de PDA, suele avergonzarse mucho para ello y prefiere dejar esas cosas para cuando tienen privacidad. Además, es el capitán y tiene una imagen que (tratar) de mantener

Mutsu, por el otro lado, no suele ser fácil de avergonzar y es más abierto en esos temas. Por lo general es el que hace sonrojar al otro y no al revés, pero oh, cuando Kanesan logra ganarle y hacer que se sonroje, se pone rojito como un tomate hasta las orejas. Ésas raras victorias son las mejores y Kanesan busca de aprovecharlas al máximo picándolo cuanto pueda.

Aunque pueda tener problemas para demostrar su cariño honesta y abiertamente, cuando lo hace o están a puertas cerradas, puede llegar a ser muy afectivo y ser más permisivo con su corazón a la hora de expresarse. Claro está, suele usar más acciones que palabras, de cierta manera le resulta más sencillo así. Las palabras las deja mayormente para sus haikus.

Mutsu es el asertivo de la relación, desde un inicio. A Kanesan le toma más tiempo el irse sintiendo cómodo con todo e ir dando los pasos. Al inicio puede que se niegue totalmente a las muestras de afecto en público, luego dice que después, tras eso puede que gruña, pero eventualmente puede terminar siendo el que tome un meñique de Mutsu con el suyo propio; denle más tiempo para que se anime a tomarle bien la mano.

Al final del día ambos son unos dorks en el fondo y adoran picarse, así que de esa manera es en buena parte como se expresan. Hasta que se emocionen, se piquen bastante, Mutsu le acabe robando un beso a Kanesan y éste indignado porque GDIT MUTSUNOKAMI.

Ambos se pueden percatar de algún cambio en el otro, Mutsu un pelín más consiente y más rápido que Kanesan; en el sentido que Mutsu puede que tome acción más rápido mientras que Kanesan squintea otro tantito antes de hacerlo. Y cuando alguno puede que esté bajoneado, el otro busca de animarlo o hablar el asunto; aunque puede que, en ocasiones y dependiendo de qué sea, Kanesan pueda terminar siendo un poquitito más confrontacional que Mutsu.

Kanesan no lo admite abiertamente, pero adora los mimos y que lo consientan, ¿cariñitos en el cabello? yes, please, pero no los pedirá porque orgullo. Plus, le gusta montones escuchar a Mutsu cantar, le relaja y hasta puede quedarse dormido escuchándolo.

 Mutsu sabe que Kanesan puede ser un estirado y algo difícil en ocasiones, pero lo adora con todo y lo cabeza dura que puede ser. No es algo que suceda siempre, pero cuando logra escuchar a Kanesan riéndose desde su corazón y con una enorme sonrisa, puede sentir como su corazón late con más fuerza que nunca.

I am SO EXCITED for new sword boys! I already love what we’ve seen so far.(Anyone else keep thinking of how much Hanamaru Kasen wanted to wash Yamanbagiri‘s cloak, and how the new character with what looks like stained, and ripped clothing would drive him nuts?) I can’t wait to see what their personalities are like, and their interactions with Mutsunokami, and other swords!(Particularly the Shinsengumi swords of course. The event seems focused in Tosa from what I understand, but I do wonder if the new guys were involved in the Bakumatsu.)  I’m also of course hoping this inspires a lot of Mutsunokami/Izuminokami things involving the new characters, and how they, and Mutsu, and Izumi would react to the situation and each other.
