I work in housekeeping, and the supervisors there are like. fucking horrible. We have the manager, who does fuck all to deal with the supervisor drama, and then we have 3 supervisors,

Supervisor J is lovely, I love her, she's the greatest manager type I've ever had (not the highest compliment when you know I've only worked two jobs but still) and she is amazing at trying to solve our issues and make this job as smooth as possible for everyone.

Supervisor T is iffy, but that's mostly just because of her connection to Supervisor D, we all feel she'll report anything we say back to D, so we can't talk to T.

Supervisor D is a fucking problem. She's gotten multiple people fired because she just fucking lies about them (me almost being one of those people), she has these stupid little cliques, she tries to get everyone against J, because she thinks J is vying for the Manager job, when J literally just wants us to be able to do our job efficiently, she sit in the office doing Fuck All all fucking day, and she just doesn't make any of us not in her little clique feel like this job is a safe/healthy work environment. (it's not safe for other reasons (namely the borderline p*do on staff which I'll probably complain about in a different ask) but D here is the MAIN reason why)

She got one of our runners fired for 'not doing his job because she never saw him' when she takes the stairs and he has to take the elevator, and the runner job is like, the easiest job to miss and yet the hardest to fucking fill with competent people, but ohhh nooo she never saw him do his job, despite the fact that the job WAS GETTING DONE WHEN HE WAS HERE but no, she never saw him in the halls. :/

D CONSTANTLY rushes us in cleaning the rooms when we have like, three rooms (the normal amount is 5 rooms, each takes around an hour-ish depending on how bad) because she wants to leave, but newsflash old woman I NEED HOURS TO MAKE MONEY TO SURVIVE, just because YOUUUU don't pay rent doesn't mean WE don't.

like an example of that is when she cleaned someone's room for them (for some reason, we weren't even staying late at ALL) then sent them to help me, and I had one room left, so I told them to go stock my room with like, the linen and concessions and shit, and then D got fucking mad at me for not telling her to clean the room ?? First off, that's your fucking job to do, tell her to clean the room, you left it up to me, so i told her to what's best to actually HELP me, second off, you TOOK ONE OF HER ROOMS TO CLEAN ??? WHY NOT JUST LET HER HAVE HER ROOM ????? IF SHE NEEDS TO CLEAN ONE ???

she almost got ME fired, because she said, and i fuckign quote '[op] gets out at the same time as everyone else on purpose so he doesn't have to help others in their rooms]' . fucking WHAT ??

first off, how would you even figure something like that out ? second off, literally no one i asked feels that way (probably except her), and THIRD OFF, NO I FUCKING DON'T ?? I HELP PEOPLE ALL THE TIME ?? THE PEOPLE THAT NEED HELP !! just because I'm not gonna help fucking M over there (who is another problem) doesn't mean I'm not helping. M always has so many rooms, because D TAKES HER OUT TO LUNCH AND LETS HER DRINK ON THE FUCKING CLOCK !! AND THEN LETS HER LEAVE WHEN SHE FEELS SICK FROM BEING DRUNK !! SO WE END UP WITH HER ROOMS ANYWAYS !!!

At the time of this ask, the younger girls (because of course its the girls from 18-21 that are having problems with this old hag :/) and supervisor J are having a meeting with the Manager, that, tbh, if it doesn't fucking go well, I'm walking out. it's gotten that fucking bad.

oh, and :) the manager is part of HR, and we don't even feel like we can go to here about afformentioned borderline p*do :) because she does JACK FUCKING ALL about anything :)

i hate it here. I'm already quitting when I get my W2, but if this meeting tomorrow doesn't go well (or if supervisor D is there at all, as we've requester her fucking NOT be there so we feel safe talking) i'm walking the fuck out of that building tomorrow. What are they gonna do ? fire me ? i'm already walking out girlfriend, and I have a shoe in job for when I leave ANYWAYS ! good luck ! i'll be back for my W2 and my last paycheck when it's there ! i'm sick and tired of y'alls bullshit !!!

Omg hi! Little warning for a ramble that might sound incoherent and "weird" to people who don't know how to have fun lol /lh (aka: I'm talking about my non-humanness, lol)

Warning! this gets VERY long, VERY specific and personal (not in a vent way, but in a "I'm rambling about myself" kind of way), and, somehow, incredibly scientific. Like, actually talking about a physics phenomenon and chemical reaction. I don't know, but yk how it is lol, I may be cringe but I am free

Well! I am indeed cloudkin and Ghostkin; rather, I've realized that I mostly feel like a cloud-looking spirit of sorts, inhabiting a human body if you will. I know some of my features (antlers, fangs, multiple eyes and dots and markings) but they're slightly shifting since my form isn't stable in itself!

Also, I know I'm fictionkin to some degree... Except I'm... not? See, I'm part of a system. I keep referring to myself as otherkin instead of just being a non-human sysmate because, despite this not being everyone's experience (completely valid), I technically "am" "the one that was here before the others""", rather, I was just here pre syscovery even if I know I've been plural for longer than that; but I felt so at home with kin terms that they felt right to use even when I don't see many systems referring to their individual members as X-kin. However, I did eventually realize that my connection to a certain character (I'd hide who it is... But I post about Dream sans on an almost daily basis and they've been the mental representation of myself for about five years now, like. They're me) but it didn't feel like being fictionkin to me; I AM some sort of introject, a semi-fictive I'd say. Plus Dream is a little ball of golden energy inhabiting a skeleton body... And so am I, a golden-looking spirit inside a body! So I'm ghost/cloudkin, galaxykin (simply because of the shifting nature and because my mind always feels so -vast-, like my body's too small to contain it, and it felt right to think of myself as a galaxy, and it was a good metaphor until it was just... intrinsically tied to who I am) and starkin for similar reasons (glowing mass of continuous chemical reactions... Me relating myself to chemistry doesn't end here, keep reading and you'll notice lol)

Stupidly enough, because this is so specific and no one ever seems to talk about stuff like this, one of the things I've realized about myself is what I'm made of; as in, which chemical-

It's something I've known for a while, before I went by Júpiter I went by Jay because I knew I wanted a name that started with J bc J and Q are the only letters not in the periodic table and I was like "oh, my name starts with J because I'm the missing element"; and then way before I had my gender figured out, the easiest way to explain my feelings was to talk about myself in pokemon types... I'd be a ghost/poison type, something about poison types always made me relate in a way? fitting lol

I think I had a huge species euphoria moment when we did the gold rain experiment (link leads to page explaining how to do the experiment) in my lab class. To put it simply, it is a mix of lead nitrate and potassium iodide that crystalizes, and then forms this snowball kind of effect, it looks like THIS:

I don't know, the mix of something looking so glittery, yet being so toxic (8g of lead nitrate are enough to kill you lol) made me go OMG ME

I want to also add that as a physics student + chemistry enthusiast, me feeling species euphoria from physics/chemistry concepts extends to more; for example I learnt about the De Broglie wave length and I haven't been normal ever since... idk how to properly explain it, so here's the wikipedia definition lol, shorter than what I was gonna write: "Matter waves are a central part of the theory of quantum mechanics, being half of wave–particle duality. At all scales where measurements have been practical, matter exhibits wave-like behavior. For example, a beam of electrons can be diffracted just like a beam of light or a water wave." And I don't know how to explain the inherent non-human euphoria I got being "related" to waves like light; like, yes!! I feel more incorporeal and more wave-like! I'm a ghost! Of course my specific properties aren't really "realistic" but come on, no one's trying to (dis)prove my existence.

I think I've just become very comfy in being non-human since 2021, maybe it's because my partner is also non-human and we've related a lot to each other in that regard; I just do the things that make me happy about it. I hide in bed with my prized possessions, makes me incredibly happy in an animalistic kind of way!

Other people find where they came from, who they were at some point. Personally, I do not have a spiritual past related to my non-humanity, I am a creature inhabiting a human body, so I don't have hearthomes or kin memories... I have weirdly specific attachments to physics concepts (part of the reason I must study physics, I need to understand the world on a deeper, non-human level) and feel euphoria over the weirdest shit lmfao

i keep being struck by the labyrinths in the beatles history. specifically john and paul rituals.

i mean, you take the 1968 NYC trip with their matching white sports coat jackets. that’s just one snapshot in time.

but then you add that the first synchronized band outfit the quarrymen ever did (november 1957) was a result of paul joining and convincing john to wear matching white sports coats. so then you understand in the absolute clusterfuck that is the 1968 nyc trip somehow they decided to harken back to that moment, where they started, first became a team, and wear matching white sports coats to announce their company to america. everything that goes wrong on that trip aside. without that history its completely missed as an active dialogue.

the labyrinths are the language they have for their layers of history. john saying let’s wear white sports coats in 1968 doesn’t mean a random color of unity. its speaking to that shared history. a color paul favored because of the 1957 british cover of an american country song about a white sport coat, which he wears to the woolton fete and later that year convinces john to adopt for the band.

but then after the nyc trip, he wears it with yoko. like the yellow submarine premiere. and its this very loud bullhorn to paul. i’ve replaced you. what are you going to do about it.

the labyrinths are most often played out through their shared history of songs, which become their own kind of language.

like paul playing twenty flight rock during get back sessions (jan 23, 1969, the day after Billy Preston gives them that much needed lift and they start really kicking again), harkening back to the song that impressed john at the 1957 fete. he doesn’t remember the chords or the words as well as he used to. but its the language of a dusty memory. a delicate remember when. it still matters to me. does it matter to you?

like john jumping into a line of elvis’s it’s now or never in the fall 1968 live special is its own language to paul. the song is elvis’s first after returning from the army, when john always thought he sold out. its not him just playing an elvis song, it’s playing *that* elvis song as a dig. like saying this is the swan song. but it’s also a challenge: unless you do something. in many ways, get back can be seen as an answer to that challenge.

but it doesn’t end there either. because the last elvis song before he returns from the army is 1958 now and then (a fool such as i). in 1978, john writes his own now and then for paul.

these labyrinths are what makes watching get back so impossible. you feel like you’re missing an entire book because you probably are. of the layers and layers of history they have between them by 1969, we know very little.

How to Create Fantasy Sounding Names

I was inspired by a post I saw a while ago about how to make names using a punnet square that I can’t find any more, so I decided to make my own guide for how I make up my own unique but convincing names.

We’ve all been there, you have a character concept but you can’t seem to find a decent name, or you have one but it feels too normal. There are a couple of things you can use to make ordinary words or names sound familiar but different enough to be fantasy. For most of these examples I’ll be using the name ‘Johnathan’ because it’s the stock standard name in English.

The first thing you can do is use the rules of one language on the words of another. In German the letter ‘J’ is pronounced like the English letter ‘Y’ meaning that ‘Johnathan’ would now look like ‘Yohnathan.’

This type of change is the easiest and most natural; in fact, it’s the reason that people who predominantly speak one language have an accent in another. Funnily enough the exact thing happened with the name ‘Johnathan’ itself when the Hebrew name ‘Yohanan’ was introduced to the Greeks who didn't use that sound and switched the ‘Y’ sound to a ‘J’ sound.

The next thing you can do is switch around some vowels. The way I work with names sometimes is that I view the consonants as the structure and the vowels as the filler. Using this mindset we can take the structure of ‘Johnathan’ which would be ‘Jhnthn’ and just start placing in vowels. If you want you can switch the preexisting vowels to recycle for something like ‘Jahnathon,’ or you can just go wild like ‘Jhenathyn.’

If you want to change consonants it can be a little hard. How do you know what will be natural or sound enough like the original to make something new that also sounds good? My trick is to look at the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) which can be a little daunting but for this you most likely won’t need a majority of it.

Essentially what we’ll be looking for are the letters next to one another in the same column. The placement of these letters tells you where in the mouth they are formed, but for our needs it gives us a handy guide for letters you can switch for something similar but different.

Here’s a basic rundown for letters that can be switched for the desired effect: (p, b) (t, d) (s, z) (f, v) (k, g) (m, n) and sometimes (r, l).

All together you can get something like ‘Yahmothan’ or ’Shenathon’ or ‘Jomathen,’ hell you don’t even have to use the name John, or even a name at all. What about Alistair? You can get ‘Olezdar’ or ‘Erestal’ or ‘Arizdal,’ all names I could imagine being from a fantasy book.

Another way to create names if you don’t have a base name, or if you want to create a base name is to abbreviate or acronymize some traits or themes a character has. Lets use “strong, aloof, and orderly:” one way of doing this is by just using the first letters of each word, using that we get “Sao” another way is by using the first consonant vowel clusters for a name like “Stalor.” If you’re brave you could also just use the ends of the words for something like “Ngofly” or “Gfy” which you could add vowels to to get something a little more pronounceable like “Gafaey.”

Hopefully this helps! this can be tedious but I've gotten some great results out of it, so have fun with it and just try things, nothing's more intimidating than a blank page so throw all you got at it!

MBTI 101.

What 16Personalities thinks it is.

I’m bored, and I don’t want to work, so now I’m writing a blog post. I’d like to preface this by saying I’m no expert, just a member of the community who found it very difficult to understand, and wants to simplify it for others.

So, you may be thinking, what the hell is MBTI? MBTI stands for Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, and is a personality classification system which sorts you into four categories, forming a four-letter code which then determines cognitive functions (but we’ll talk about those another day).

MBTI was popularised by 16personalities.com, which attempts to simplify the system, but isn’t always accurate, and evaluates you on five categories instead of four, one of which is not technically MBTI. I don’t believe 16Personalities is bad, but I do think it’s worth less than your standard MBTI. However, it does give each type a recognisable name and avatar, which are commonly used in MBTI memes.

So, the four categories. First, extroversion (E) versus introversion (I). This is your sociability, essentially whether you generally find being solitary or around others more energising. When asked if they’d describe themselves as an introvert or extrovert, most people say neither, that they’re an ambivert, and this is technically true. Most people aren’t entirely extroverted, or entirely introverted, but MBTI sorts you into one or the other based on what you lean most towards. Depending on which category you fall into, the first letter of your personality code will be either an E or an I.

Second, intuitive (N) versus sensing (S). Intuition gets an N instead of an I simply to avoid repeating letters, and 16Personalities refers to sensing as ‘observant’. This is essentially an assessment of whether your attention is primarily external or internal, on your surroundings or in your own head. Most people would say they’re more so in their heads, but there is a clear differentiation. This is harder to put into words without cognitive functions. Sensors are often mistyped as intuitives, and many claim to be intuitive because intuitives are often seen as more intelligent--this is a trend, not a rule. In fact, the most intelligent people in the world are more likely to be sensors simply because sensors are more common. And with this category, an N or S is added to your code.

Third, thinking (T) versus feeling (F), the easiest category to explain. This is basically whether you make decisions with your head or heart, whether you focus on rationality or emotionality. That’s it, so the third letter in your code will be T or F.

Finally, judging (J) versus perceiving (P). This category is almost impossible to explain without functions, as it holds the most weight in your functions. This is also commonly misinterpreted; every time I’ve taken the 16Personalities test, it’s given me INTJ, when I know I am an INTP. (This was actually where the ‘architect’ part of my blog name came from, the name 16Personalities gives to INTJ. INTP is called the Logician, but is also commonly called the Architect, and I like the alliteration, so I’m keeping it.) I tend to explain this factor as how chaotic your head is; typically, judging types are very organised, and perceiving types aren’t. However, I’m an organised person, but I’m still a perceiving type. 16Personalities refers to perceiving as ‘prospecting’, which is also a pretty good way to look at it: judging types tend to focus on what there is, while perceivers tend to focus on what could be.

And this makes up your four letter code. For example, an ESFJ is extroverted, sensing, feeling, and judging, while an INTP is introverted, intuitive, thinking, and perceiving.

16Personalities gives you an additional letter, T or A (eg. ESTJ-T or ESTJ-A). These stand for turbulent or assertive, and is essentially an evaluation of neuroticism, but it isn’t actually a part of MBTI.

That basically wraps it up, but 16Personalities also sorts the types into four categories, which also aren’t part of MBTI, but are useful for references.

First, the Analysts. These avatars wear purple, and are the xNTx types: the intuitive thinkers, namely INTJ, the Architect, INTP, the Logician, ENTJ, the Commander, and ENTP, the Debater.

Second, the Diplomats. These avatars wear green, and are the xNFx types: the intuitive feelers, namely INFJ, the Advocate, INFP, the Mediator, ENFJ, the Protagonist, and ENFP, the Campaigner.

Third, the Sentinels. These avatars wear blue, and you’d expect them to be the xSTx or xSFx types, but are actually the xSxJs: the sensing judges, namely ISTJ, the Logistician, ISFJ, the Defender, ESTJ, the Executive, and ESFJ, the Consul.

Lastly, the Explorers. These wear yellow, and are the xSxPs: sensing perceivers, namely ISTP, the Virtuoso, ISFP, the Adventurer, ESTP, the Entrepreneur, and ESFP, the Entertainer.

MBTI does not technically determine personality or behaviour, but it does offer an explanation as to how a person’s mind works, and can help you understand others’ thought processes and perspectives.

Extroversion:

Ever wondered that there are people who are either surrounded by a group or have someone else around, but you never see them alone?

That’s extroversion, the kind of person who feels the most energized and happy when they can be around others.

The E in ESFP stands for the trait that shows how someone ‘charges’ their battery, meaning if they get exhausted by spending time alone or with people. In case of an extrovert, they get easily drained when they are spending time alone and derive their energy when they are around others, seeking much more social contact to refill the battery.

And Nishinoya is just that kind of person if you observe him throughout the anime.

The very first indicator of his obvious extroversion can be seen right away when he is introduced in the series, someone who is very loud and open-minded, boldly saying anything that comes into his mind at the moment.

After Hinata talks to for the first time he shows an easy-going and open nature that seems ready to interact with even strangers. He gets easily excited as seen when Hinata called him senpai and he immediately got carried away by that offering him anything he wants in return, teaching him at any time he wants to.

Not only does he get excited over that single thing but in several other scenes you can see him as a moodmaker as he pushes away the most negative aura due to the excitement of a new opponent he can learn from or confront.

He doesn’t fear direct confrontation and speaking his mind, and even when got suspended, the others asked him how he was in such good form despite being absent. Nishinoya stated that he had trained with the neighborhood women and other people to keep his training on-going.

After returning to Karasuno and playing as a regular again, it’s seen that he casually talks to the new members as well as his upperclassmen.

Additionally Nishinoya is always standing next to someone, very close, jumps on their back or like in Tsukishima’s case even bites his shoulder despite the fact he isn’t that close to him.

A true extrovert through and through.

Dominant Se:

Our first actual function, the dominant Se.

What is Se?

Se is a perceiving function aka the S for Sensing and since we established Nishinoya is an extrovert the first function on his Stack is, to no surprise, also extraverted.

Therefore Nishinoya’s dominant function is extraverted Sensing.

What does that mean now?

Having a perceiving function as your dominant function can already say a lot how you interact with the world around you and it’s the first thing people will notice when they look at you without even having to interact with you.

Since the dominant function is the first one that develops in our functional stack it’s the strongest and the most natural one we use, meaning it’s the easiest to use.

The Se in Nishinoya’s stack being his first function represents a lot about how we perceive him as a person, it could also be seen as the function when you introduce someone and the first words you would describe a person with.

What are the first words you would describe Nishinoya with?

Probably a lot and I can tell you: all of them would fall into the Dom Se category!

Now after a long explanation let’s see what the Dom Se is actually telling us.

His dominant function tells us that Nishinoya interacts with the world directly as his relationship with the world is established through physical sensation, it relies on sensory experience meaning what is happening around me is a constant question that his subconscious is trying to answer by observing the things around him.

Stimulating experiences to get a kick of adrenaline and enjoying the world around him, taking any opportunity that comes his way as he spots them and takes advantage of them.

People with Dom Se can be described as adventurous, loud, bold, courageous, adaptable and entertaining.

They also think that actions speak more than words, does that ring a bell?

Starting with the most obvious part is his strong sense of focussing on opportunities as he brushes off worries and concerns that others might have by playing them off, especially Asahi is someone he always explains not to be a worrywart, he often scolds Asahi for whining a lot instead of properly doing something unlike some other Aces.

Another one would be wearing shirts with word plays on them, especially those which sounded manly to him, as he also is determined to become a manly man despite his height and does live by those principles to fulfill the desire of becoming what he wishes to be instead of simply saying it or pretending to.

This is not the only decision he made based on the excitement he felt, even joining Karasuno was due to the fact he liked the uniforms and wanted to wear them as he regarded them as cool and manly.

His way of intaking all the events happening is clearly shown in the anime many times.

Nishinoya never takes his eyes off whenever they are playing or watching someone, always having the people and events around him in sight.

In-game his reflexes are unmatched as seen in the first Dateko match in season one where he got the ball with his foot at the last second.

Shortly before the first Seijoh vs Karasuno match, Hinata and Nishinoya were sitting next to each other watching Oikawa serve against another team. Especially in the manga Nishinoya emphasizes his strong desire to receive one of his serves since he mentioned that in his middle-school years he heard about an extremely talented setter that had powerful serves, even though they were not that strong like the current Oikawa.

His adventurous and courageous side wanting to enjoy the challenges around him is seen here clearly. He never directly spoke to Oikawa and in the practice match he wasn’t there but immediately spotted him. He also got angry when Aone spoke to Karasuno before their first match as he still holds a small grudge against him, even though he wasn’t at the scene at that point he always looks around and spotted them talking, quickly joining in.

Nishinoya’s constant watch on what is happening around him is also shown when he receives during practice despite just arriving at the gym or training independently without anyone asking him to receive, he also looks out for his team members and has a close watch on his opponents all the time like Yaku from Nekoma who stated that people like Nishinoya who constantly watch others with the desire to grow are indeed scary.

Yet those parts also show us that Nishinoya’s Se can go into extremes that may be considered unhealthy.

We see that Nishinoya is very moody at times and his behaviour flips in an instant, which can be - in Daichi’s case f.e - very annoying and unpredictable.

Nishinoya is a serious player and we also see him being hard-working showing us that he actually cares about his team but at other times his simple curiosity and superficial mindset can cause more trouble, yet we see it rather off-court than on-court when he interacts with people.

Auxiliary Fi:

The second function on his stack: Auxiliary Fi.

The feeling side we can observe in Nishinoya without digging too deep is also due to the function being rather on the top of the stack as the second function works like a support for the dominant óne.

Fi stands for introverted Feeling which is one of the judging functions, since Nishinoya’s Dominant Se is a perceiving one the information he constantly gathers also needs processing to evaluate situations and develop a good moral judgement before rushing to things.

Therefore the Se-Fi works like that: Se intakes information that Fi is going to process and evaluate properly in order to reduce more damage and help his emotional state by not completely being too reckless.

Being the second function Nishinoya resisting his Fi would be quite hard so we can see a lot of moments he actually uses it in the anime as well.

We have different varieties were his Fi is present one would be when he sticks close to his Dom Se, his comfort zone and tries to ignore the Fi but it comes out in a way or another, which is displayed through brushing off important feelings or emotions, ignoring warning signs, the lack of understanding why some paths may be dangerous and unhealthy,looking down on those who are too earnest and avoiding responsibility by playing the victim.

While Nishinoya is earnest himself and also displays those types of behaviours rather than the beginning in the series we see those slight resists in some examples.

The first scene in which Noya appeared was showing that he broke a mop and was very angry as he lashed out due to his emotions. That very scene was due to Asahi declaring that he would stop playing which stirred him up, also showing that he stopped coming to the club as well (even without his suspension) because he just can’t play if Asahi is not around, making this decision heavily based on emotions only.

Nishinoya doesn’t need Asahi to play his position, rationally speaking and with his skill-level it wouldn’t be a problem at all to keep playing with other people instead, yet he simply was against it irrationally choosing what felt right to him as he tried to blame Asahi for the whole situation they were in.

We also see that when Asahi is overly earnest and tries his best Nishinoya tends to make fun of him or look down on him for his good-nature and soft heart which is one of Asahi’s good sides yet a weak point as well.

He doesn’t take any warnings either as he brushes them off easily one example would be when he ignored the warning that the vice-principle was coming and he still ignored that fact causing him to get suspended.

Still Nishinoya’s Fi also displayed itself in a manner that can be viewed as overindulging in Fi which means when still developing Fi and don’t knowing how to use it, Nishinoya for example can use it subconsciously in an extreme manner.

The Asahi example can be again taken for that.

Another one would be that negative feelings are kept unresolved and inhibit his judgement, one of that moments are few but in the case of season 4 we see that even Nishinoya can stop to function in his position as a Libero after meeting Atsumu Miya’s serve that made him remember how he messed up many times and how he used to fear everything at a point making him feel useless.

Nishinoya takes things too personally at times too, as he almost started a fight with Kageyama on the court when they played against Dateko in season 4 episode 6 and 7.

His first reaction was feeling attacked by Kageyama’s remark about him being in the way which was justified, after the matter being explained Nishinoya backed off but the immediate reaction showed his trait.

But most of the time, especially apart of the beginning where Nishinoya started to appear, we can clearly see him use his Fi in a healthy manner.

Nishinoya’s emotions are always authentic and he accepts emotions very well not making fun of them (in a serious way that is).

He wanted to play against Oikawa due to his respect to him and his immense development in that short time he had heard from him in middle-school, motivating him even more as he played against him.

All in all his emotions are easily spotted, genuine and he shows them openly. When he is sad or touched he easily cries, when angry he gets louder and yells at people, even when Hinata talked to him he got touched and therefore offered to help him right away, simply because Hinata said some nice words.

Especially when excited and happy he even jumps high and climbs on other people’s backs.

He is also very understanding towards mistakes and short-comings, being the first one to encourage his teammates no matter if it was a good play or a big mistake.

Even on the sidelines he is the first one to jump over and rush into a hug to congratulate the one who made a point.

His famous line “I got your backs”, also shows us his other ways of showing emotional encouragement and himself displaying his empathetic nature of thinking about others while pushing his own self-care of confidence.

Someone who wears his heart on his sleeve, that is Nishinoya Yuu.

Tertiary Te:

As his tertiary function is Te his balance consists of Fi-Te.

Even when someone with an auxiliary Fi tries to resist it or there is a lack in it, in Nishinoya’s case it being the second on his stack makes it hard so Te is the defense mechanism that comes in when Fi is in one of those mentioned states.

Te rewards the lacking Fi with a sense of competence and strength, this means the lacking Fi misuses the Te causing the person to fall into a Te loop that tries to find a short-term “solution” for deep-lying self-image or self-confidence issues.

Nishinoya is very stubborn when it comes to his own skills and competences, despite being an amazing Libero and proving that fact in every match he stills seems to be never satisfied with himself and always seeks to improve, as he does that in a very domineering way not letting anyone stop him or even gets angry and resentful when someones tries to threaten or advise him that he is fine as he is. He refuses help from others at those times and does what he believes his right, as long as he sees he is competent enough to reach his goal his Te rewards his Fi with that false sense of strength to make him more confident about himself for the time-being than he actually is.

When he tells himself that he can do a certain thing for sure and obsessively emphasizes that even when he is in a monologue it is mostly to negative emotions, f.e when he fails to get receives several times or especially when he is not confident.

In season 4 we also see him almost not doing an overhand receive because it was the more secure way despite Nishinoya clearly trained to do exactly that receive especially when it came to jump floaters after experiencing Hanamaki doing it in the game of season 2.

His negative emotions mostly are buried behind a facade of I got your back, I am sure I can get any receive and many other words that should express his power.

Since we saw in the manga part and anime in season one, in the first practice match against Nekoma that Nishinoya praised Yaku for his skills but didn’t recognize his own, Yaku mentioned that Nishinoya probably doesn’t even see it himself. It shows that Nishinoya might be aware he is not confident but subconsciously expresses confident manners when in a loop.

Inferior Ni:

Ni, the last one on Nishinoya’s stack and it’s also the function that could be considered the least developed one out of the four.

While Ni is there to learn about intuitive connections it’s there to encourage yourself to nurture the inner world and reflect on the things happening around you, as well as connecting them into a context so you can fill the unknown in yourself. It also provides the imagination of idealistic ideas and envisioning the future ahead of you all that is part of introverted Intuition.

Yet in Nishinoya’s case Ni is his last function on the stack, it means he is more prone to resist and ignore his NI, especially when his Dom Se is going to extremes, this can cause the ignored Ni to become louder and louder when the problems caused by the former and it even can be threatening over time.

And that’s where Ni grip comes in, it unconsciously tries to compensate for the lack of the Se or Se extremes, but since the Ni usually is still underdeveloped it doesn’t turn out well and then the so-called grip happens.

The grip can be described when people would say this isn’t like you at all since usually the one exhibiting the grip behaviour isn’t even aware of that fact.

Nishinoya in Ni grip would be almost the opposite of what he almost is.

Hard to believe that the upbeat Nishinoya could be anything but loud and excited?

Well very wrong, in season four we actually see Nishinoya in his best Ni-grip behaviour.

Where do you ask?

Atsumu Miya standing on the other side of the court.

Yes, Nishinoya may be really excited and loves the challenge but especially in the course of the match we see him being quite different than we usually know him and see a whole different side of him.

It’s almost as if he was isolating himself while he felt trapped, felt very gloomy, frustrated, helpless, unassured and doubtful which are all signs of Ni grip.

He was doubting himself over and over and panicked about not being able to move, totally frozen and paraylzed by fear.

It’s as if the Nishinoya who said I got your back was a whole other being in that moment, his calm and contemplating nature about all the mistakes he could make by getting targeted and not being able to even move for Atsumu’s serves started in entire flashback about how he used to fear everything in his life.

He himself explained he moved on from that point where he was scared and after a long time admitted he was scared yet again like he used too as he indirectly questioned his confidence, abilities and his own value.

Usually Nishinoya who might be stubborn when it comes to advice or help but still accepts that he has Daichi and the others next to him, felt totally alone and trapped in that situation, closed-off and being able to reach out if it wasn’t for Kinoshita getting him out of that wrecked thought-process.

But Nishinoya himself questioned if this is all he could do, if this is the so-called Libero he should be and was almost freaking out by not being able to do anything due to he fear that overcame him,

It was a rare moment but that vulnerable, deep in thought Nishinoya who was unusually quiet and almost going crazy due to his inability seeking much more in that moment - That’s also part of Nishinoya but only the part that comes up when he is at his lowest.

As we understand now we surely can say, it was a moment where Nishinoya’s inferior Ni worked against him in a stressed situation, seeing it not being as developed as it should be but since it’s his inferior function around his age it’s quite normal for him to subconsciously misuse it to compensate for his Se extremes.

Conclusion:

Nishinoya is the very depiction of an ESFP as he embodies all the traits that his functions should represent. His personality type that is called the entertainer fits his fierce and energized nature, unpredictable of what he is going to do next.

With his short height yet big presence, he always stands in the spotlight as his amazing skills, loud voice and strong personality overshadow his much taller allies and opponents.

Even his flashy way of talking, his hairstyle and confidence Nishinoya earns the title of an ESFP.

Never getting tired of what is possible and what has to come, and never stopping to explore much more to what is there in the world.

Hey, do you know any good word problems associated with abstract algebra (in particular groups/rings/fields)? I'm at a point where it's getting hard to explain to non-mathematicians what exactly my current math class is about because I can't connect it back to application.

I'm going to use this as an excuse to talk about a symmetry group that I came across recently. You may think that this is a good way to illustrate group theory, and many would agree with you. I would say "maybe". In his book Love and Math, Edward Frenkel uses the example of symmetry groups of rotations of a square table vs a circular table, and that was accessible when I read it in high school, but I missed his point until after I took group theory, so I'm just going to highlight it here: an important idea behind symmetry groups is that identifying the symmetry group of the object tells us something about the structure of the object. In the book he explicitly mentions the idea that while we think/are taught that the defining property of a circle is having a center point such that all boundary points are equidistant from the center, you could also classify a circle as a thing whose symmetry group is the circle group R/Z (or R/2piZ if they're comfortable with radians). I hear chemists sometimes use symmetry groups of molecules. I am now going to talk about group theory assuming the reader knows group theory, so that's a prerequisite. I've recently come across an example of a symmetry group in a much softer science. An acquaintance with whom I'm friendly is really into Myers-Briggs and the associated Cognitive Function Theory. I'll assume everyone's seen the Myers-Briggs part, but I'll describe the Cognitive Function Theory part here, or at least enough of it to do group theory on (because I'm more into the group theory and not really endorsing MBTI/CFT, but don't want to add that qualifier to every sentence, so I'll just talk about it like it's true bc that's easiest). CFT says there are are four kinds of methods of making sense of the world: Sensing and iNtuition (these are grouped together as "perceiving processes") and Thinking and Feeling (grouped together as "judging processes"). Each of these could be "introverted" or "extroverted", so one of your functions could be Ni (introverted iNtuition) or Fe (extroverted Feeling). The big idea of CFT is that you have one of each S, N, F, and T functions, and whether each is introverted or extroverted and the order of preference you subconsciously have for them determines your Myers-Briggs type (theoretically in a more robust way than the I/E, S/N, T/F, P/J basis). Now for some more nitty-gritty details that made this jump out as a group theory problem when it was explained to me. Upon adding the following restrictions to the ordering of your cognitive functions, there should be a bijection between the set of cognitive function types and Myers-Briggs types: 1. You have two introverted types and two extroverted types and they alternate, so you either have an ieie or an eiei type. 2. Your first and fourth most dominant functions are either both perceiving processes or both judging processes. Your second and third most dominant functions are either both perceiving or judging processes, whichever ones are left. As a corollary of the above, you can't have e.g. two introverted judging processes. Now this wouldn't be a good math post without examples, so for illustration, I'm an INTP. Equivalently, my functional stack is Ti Ne Si Fe. The aforementioned acquaintance thought this was interesting because their partner has the same stack in a different order; I thought it probably wasn't that interesting bc it seemed like the restrictive structure would make a nontrivial fraction of the types also shared my stack. I had an indexed collection and an invariant to describe, so naturally I did some group theory. So the following elementary operations form a [generating set of a] group that I'll describe by describing their group action on functional stacks: η changes ieie to eiei. So η(Ti Ne Si Fe) = Te Ni Se Fi

τout swaps the outermost processes (but not the introversion/extroversion flag, because that could allow invalid stacks). So τout(Ti Ne Si Fe) = Fi Ne Si Te

τin swaps the innermost processes (but not the introversion extroversion flag). So τout(Ti Ne Si Fe) = Ti Se Ni Fe

σ is the most complicated. It moves the outside ones inward, the inner ones outward, but it also swaps the order of the inner pair and the order of the outer pair. This little twist in the order means that each process keeps its original i/e flag. So σ applied to Ti Ne Si Fe puts T/F on the inside and N/S on the outside. It doesn't affect the i/e flags or their order, so the outside has to be Si __ __ Ne and the inside has to be __ Fe Ti __. So σ(Ti Ne Si Fe) = Si Fe Ti Ne. By construction, σ gives the same types in a different order. Less obviously, η◦τin◦τout does also. And actually, these two generate an elementary abelian subgroup of all functional stack permutations that give the same stack in a different order. (So 4 out of 16 types share the same stack. I guess that is kind of nontrivial?) And the whole group is sort of interesting. η commutes with everything, so the group is 〈η〉×〈τin, τout, σ〉, but what I didn't realize is that 〈τin, τout, σ〉is isomorphic to D_8. I didn't realize D_8 was generated by three self-inverse elements!

He’s usually a one night stand kinda guy, get what he wants and get out, so don’t expect him to stay the night or want to cuddle afterwards. He’s not loud, per se, but fuck is he mouthy. So, so much dirty talk. He only quiets when he’s really focused or if it feels especially good. However, if you really wanna hear him moan, go down on him. That’s when he’s the loudest and least coherent.
