We were robbed of Jötunn!Loki content. So, here is my attempt to draw him! A full card, for the God of Stories.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Still here? Wow !
It's actually my second Loki card of the kind, ah! The first one, I've done like- at least three years ago. When season 1 came out. I mean... Look at that...
Tumblr media
"Your savior is queer" is still very nice, tho. Weirdly, I'm not too ashamed to look at this one.

Loftr Laufeysdottir/son
My Loki AU where he gets to be more free with self expression!! More lore details under the cut ;p
This version of Loki goes my the name Loftr (pronounced Lofter) Laufeysdottir (or Laufeyson, depending on the day). Loftr is the name given to him by Laufey when he was born.
In this universe, Laufey was actually a good dad! He didn’t abandon Loftr as a baby, he left him in the temple to be protected. Odin found him and took him in, assuming he was abandoned. When Laufey finds out Loki is his long lost child Loftr, he tries to reach out and connect with him.
Loftr is much more chill with his Jötunn heratige than canon Loki, because he learns through Laufey that Frost Giants aren’t all that bad, actually. He is genderfluid (like comics Loki) and uses his shapeshifting powers to present as both masculine and feminine, or ambiguously. He mostly goes by he/him pronouns, but switches it up when he feels like it.
I drew this art years ago but just recently came across it again and realised I never posted it anywhere! So here it is, finally :)
P.S. Please ignore the multiple different spelling of Jötunn!! I don’t know which one is correct, there are many different sources with all the different spellings lol. Sorry about that!

i think that the presence of Jötunn lineage in many of the Æsir is necessary to convey their relationships to the stories they tell
ive mentioned before that the Æsir, in my understanding, represent society and order, the direct opposition of the chaos of natute (the Jötnar)
but many of our most beloved Æsir deities are directly descended from Jötnar
Thor, for example, seen as the protector of humanity and a war god, was mothered by Jörđ, a Jötunn. its also no secret that Thor has a habit of going ape shit on his enemies, with a fierce, uncontrollable rage (how many times in the myths has he brutally killed Jötnar with ease in a blind rage? its badass but also a little scary)
another example is Ođinn (Odin), who is the chief of the gods, is also descended of Jötnar. while he is in the role of ultimate leadership and order, he's also heavily associated with the chaos of a battlefield, ecstacy, and the primordial, nature-driven force of magick.
but toby! what the fuck is your point here?
well, my point here is that nature and chaos is still a part of the Æsir, and us humans. no matter how "civilized" we get or are, at the end of the day, society is just a concept. anyone can be in a group, but the force of change, of anger, fear, of power and nature, thats a part of us all and it affects the way we interact with the world around us
we humans often have a tendency to fight against change or nature or things we feel we cannot control - but all of this is within us as well
when we are able to accept the deep, primordial forces that are woven into our beings, we can move forward with that power
or something, i dont know
feel free to leave your thoughts <3

Before Loki was kidnapped to the TVA, he was just getting arrested for genocide. He was at his most villainous self.
(I'm gonna burn through this next point because that's not the point I'm trying to make, I'm just adding context, sorry in advance): The first thing the Loki series does is showing him a video to make him a sympathetic protagonist, and it seemed to work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So essentially, their starting point is a Loki who is still semi a good guy but still isn't cooperative in the slightest. Not, you know, the guy who just sent an army of aliens to murder a bunch of people and conquer the earth. So, I have to question,
Why Is Loki Taken From Avengers, and Not Where We Left Off?
By the end of Thor: Ragnarok, Loki's arc is in a much different place to where it was in New York. He's a different person, while still being himself. Because we saw distinct sides of him, and he even did good.
But his arc was not done. He was clearly doing good for vanity reasons, rather than morality, to at least some extent.
Tumblr media
Not to mention his Jötunn heritage that he was taught to hate from childhood.
Tumblr media
There was still so much to do. So much to explore with this Loki. But...
Tumblr media
There was no need for this. He could have easily survived (very easily, to the point where it's goofy). We've already seen Loki redeem himself, now, there's more. He's not perfect, he's not done. Why not pull Loki to the TVA without undoing his arc? Let's just keep going, the path isn't over.
(He would want to escape rather he was his NYC self or not. His motivation could still be "I just need to get out of here" -> "there's a real problem I need to fix". The series will be different, but not that different).
Which bring me to my next point: The TVA is the perfect starting point for the continuation of Loki's arc from Ragnarok.
Consider: Doing things for validation & admiration -> going to a place isolated from your life. This would also enhance the symbolism of Loki sitting alone. He wanted a throne for validation (vanity), and now he chose a throne no one will know exists, because he wants to help (morality).
In addition, there's no magic in the TVA. There was an opportunity to kick off a journey to self acceptance, to force him to look in the mirror until he likes what he sees.
The show starts with 2012 Loki, but wants 2017 Loki. And rightfully so, because his character wasn't finished. He had so much more to do. I wish Loki hadn't died, his series would be better for it.

Wow, it’s been so long since I posted something. Didn’t have much motivation to do art for quite a while. Can’t say for sure I’m back again but I have a few pieces, old and new, that I’m gonna drop here for now.
This is an old work I never posted because I wasn’t quite happy with it, especially the colored version. Saw a few artworks from other artists with Thor as a Frost Giant and felt inspired to make my own piece.
Enjoy a very blue Thor. xD

"Ægir and Ran"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't know why but I have an obsession with very minor deities from the norse pantheon.
Ran and Ægir as well as the dynamic I imagine they'd have is one of these obsessions! As well as their 9 daughters like come on how adorable is this?! 🥹

Gerd.
Jötunn goddess of fertility.
Daughter of Gymer and Aurboda.
Wife of Yngve-Frey and Mother of Fjölner and founding mother of the first Swedish royal line.
I always imagen her with diffent hues of brown in her hair, like the layers of the soil.
Also wearing a lot of gold, because after a lot of nagging to marry Frey, she might as well get the best out of from the wealthiest family line amung the gods. Also she tells skrinir she is allready from a wealthy family and holds just as much wealth as her father does so.
And, when I think about Gerd I also often picture a very strong and confident woman, not in the Freya way with power over love and death and magic, but more like; "yeah, Im fine af, and thrive like the plants in my soil and I know it".
Like just, confidence!
And as a fertility goddess, for me its less of a loving mother, and more of a intense pulse of life within nature that refuse to die. Very much like Frey.

As you can see, I'm experimenting with a new inking style
Pictured are Jötnar, the giants of Scandinavia- not dissimilar are their cousins the Ettin, though contrary to popular belief they have zero relationship to trolls outside of antagonistic hand gestures, and the occasional bone bread poisoning attempt. Nowadays most remaining Jötnar work in heavy industry or mining because they're forcibly prevented from their tradition of solitary hill life by a bevy of regulations and poor relationships with local governments during the rise of industrialization. "Uncivilized" giants still live in places like Trillemarka where they have to hide because creatively borrowing vast herds of livestock is a crime apparently.
The best senses of the average Jötunn are its Hearing and Touch, their large bulbous noses being primarily for display. Their vaguely elephantine legs convergently support the vast bulk of their frames, which can range from 610cm in height to 818cm in height, and cushion the shock of sliding down steep ravines. Despite their immense hand size, Jötnar are capable of fairly fine metalworking and recovered artifacts often possess fine detail, as do their spearheads, which are usually cast from entire veins of copper.
Note- Jötnar have and still will eat humans on occasion, and while ritual meaning is ascribed to this, the truth is they just do it when they're pissed off at you.
