Ja'far: My favourite sad adult man. He is physically unable to catch a break. There are so many things I could give here, his tragic backstory as an assassin which is sadly never explained in much detail (but this is magi and I’ve learned not to expect too much), despite this it clearly has a strong impact on his character thought the series. Like the persistent self worth issues, and how that relates to his unhealthy work-life balance, he’s never really not had a job. There are occasionally points when good thing happen, only for them to be immediately followed up by tragedy. Rurumu is the perfect example of this, she genuinely cared so much about him and ended up adopting him and it was so sweet, but god forbid he’s allowed to be happy so everything goes wrong and she end up dying (which makes him two for two in the dead mom department). Not to mention his relationship with Sinbad and how their last conversation was Sinbad lying to his face and leaving him. The poor guy doesn’t even get a happy ending, he’s just waiting for Sinbad to come back, he has no personal goals or hobby’s, Sinbad was quite literally his home and reason for living, but now he’s gone. I’m so bad at expressing my feelings about this guy, just because there are so many and it’s so complicated. Magi honestly sucks in a lot of ways but the way Sinbad and Ja’far are written is absolutely fantastic, they were always destined to end poorly but it still hurts to watch their relationship fall apart the way it did. I haven’t even mentioned the fall of the first Sindria which was a whole thing, two of his oldest die in front of him, only form him to find out afterwards that his adoptive mom and another close friend have also died. He was 14 at the time, he had so much going on and just had to pick up the pieces afterwards. It’s such a shame we were never shown the aftermath of the whole thing it would have been so interesting! But again this is magi, most thing are pretty disappointing. There are probably other things I could go on about, but I can’t remember them and this is a bit long.

Marius Pontmercy: I'm still sad about him losing round 1 last time.True sadboy behaviour. The Les Mis = Sadboys argument still stands, and also uh. His friends die. You know how it is. In the musical he sings a whole song about how empty the chairs and tables are without the homeboys. Truly a travesty.

This drabble is part of my summer celebration collection! Prompt: Falling asleep Characters featured: Ja'far (Magi), 2nd person GN Reader Requested by: anon [a/n]: One of my goals for this summer is to finally read the Magi Manga. I really hope I can get through it cause I really want to know what happens. Also, Ja'far deserves a pay raise.

You never were a hero in handling the heat of summer, sweating buckets at the first sun rays, and getting so tired without doing much at all. Living in the desert, said summer heat truly was on another level. There were so many positives about joining Sinbad and his crew in Sindria, but living with the sweltering heat wasn’t one of them. 

One of your jobs was relieving Ja’far of all the administrative duties he took on from Sinbad on top of his own. But sitting in an office, pen in hand, focusing on the papers in front of you, you could feel your eyelids growing heavy. Ja’far had told you multiple times already that he was ready to take over, that you didn’t have to take on his work, and mostly, that Sinbad should step up and do the work instead -wishful thinking, both of you knowing that the king would find some way or the other to escape his administrative duties again. 

A gentle hand woke you up, and you jolted awake, nearly knocking your head into Ja’fars, who had been gently leaning over you, trying to wake you up. You had fallen asleep without even realizing it, the heat and the hours of sleep you missed finally catching up with you. Ja’far jumped back right in time, and you apologized profusely, finding yourself growing more and more confused looking at his face, where his worried expression was slowly changing into a smile. 

“what are you smiling like that for?” you said, raising an eyebrow, unable to suppress your own smile. “Your face”, he said, reaching out to your cheek, making the heat rise to your face, as he gently rubbed and showed his hand to you, stained with the ink you undoubtedly still had on your face. “oh” There was very little you could say as you felt too flustered and startled still, sleepy thoughts mixing with adoration for the man before you. “How about you go clean up and maybe lay down for a bit? I’ll take care of th-” You interrupted him before he could finish his sentence. “If I am going to take a break, so will you.” You grabbed the hand that was on your cheek earlier and dragged him out of the office. You weren’t sure yet what exactly you’d do, but it wasn’t working for a bit. Maybe you could take a little nap together.

Magolor and Marx

This guy’s whole character arc is realizing friendship is more valuable than power. Also he says “I will show you the power of Best Friends!” This is probably referring to him and Kirby but I like to think he calls everyone he knows his best friend

PARTNERS IN CRIME. Any piece of media that shows Marx (after magolor was introduced) will usually pair him with magolor. Heavily implied that they knew each other before the events of Magolor’s game, with it even being theorized that Marx was his inspiration for his attempted takeover. Now they just kinda cause trouble for the sake of it

Ja'far and Sinbad

Sometimes the strongest friendships are born from an attempted assassination.

After being saved from falling into depravity Ja’far decided to follow Sinbad, resulting in him spending the next twenty years at his side.

I decided to submit the two of them during ‘The Adventures of Sinbad’ in particular because of the way it shows their relationship develop over time as the come to trust and care about each other.

One scene that stands out in particular is during chapter 81 when Sinbad is close to giving up on his dream because he had to do something back handed. In response to this Ja’far punches him, several times, and tells him that it was naive to believe he would never have to get his hands dirty while tying to become a king, and that he should ‘use those dirtied hands to build a country. Build your world.’.

There are so many serious moments through both the main series and the prequel - all the times Sinbad comes back to Sindria and says ‘I’m home’, only to Ja’far. When Sinbad’s immediate reaction to Ja’far ‘dying’ during the trial in chapter 100 is to fight Zepar - that’s not even mentioning the whole ‘Sin, I’ll leave the rest to you’ bit.

But they’re also both complete idiots at times that compliment each other perfectly. There is a scene in the outro of the Adventures of Sinbad anime when Sinbad literally gives Ja’far the world, I don’t know what else there is to say.

30 Day of Writing - 08.01.2023 Ja'far

note: finally this guy again :) i haven't written for him in a whilei also haven't watched magi in a while :/ let's see if i can some up with something creative

gender neutral reader, no warnings, well a little warning for me venting in this one

It wasn't often, that you could spend time with his and even then he always was wrapped up with work. As Royality of a distant Kingdom it was quite scandalous for you to see him, after all he was just the right-hand man of a King. Your parents' dissaproved of your relationship, making visits to Sindria rare.

You'd often sneak onto ships to Sindria, knowing,that even if found turning back wouldn't be an option and once at the ports it would take at least a few days until the ship could sail back home again and during that time you servants would cover for you.

Security was tight this time around, after your last few trips your parents got suspicious of your behavior. While they dissaproved at first, the sailors on the ship often helped you stay hidden. You've gotten quite close to them after being discovered by them a few times and honestly they secretly were cheering you on and hoped you would get your happy ending.

Once your ship finally arrived in Sindria some of the sailors helped you off the ship and said their goodbyes, before you ran off into the direction of the palace. On your way there you met Pisti and Yamraiha, who were quite excited to see you again. They personally brought you to the palace. You spent a few minutes chatting about who knows.

"How long will you be staying?"

Pisti asked. You knew she wanted to show you the entirety of Sindria, your boyfriend already showed you but you didn't have the heart to tell her that.

"Probably not for too long, my parents are getting suspicious. I'm scared they might lock me up inside a tower to prevent me from leaving again."

You said half-jokingly, truth is your parents probably would lock you up and then marry you off to some guy they approved off.

"Well we can't have that, Ja'far would be devestated"

"I'm aware, I don't think I could marry anyone who isn't Ja'far though. Speaking of I might wanna go see him now. Have a good day"

And off you were, on your way to Ja'far's office/room. You knew he prefered knocking, but you also knew you wanted to annoy grace him with your presence.

"Knock Knock"

You said as you silently opened the door, he greeted you with a tired smile before returning to his paper work. He looked tired, well he always looked tired but he looked especially tried today. You could only imagine how much work king Sinbad pinned onto him. You walked over to his side and have him a light kiss on the cheek.

"I missed you"

you whispered as you brushed a bit of his hair to the side.

"I missed you too. How long are you staying this time?"

"Not long my parents are getting suspicious and I don't wanna lose what we have here. You know they would lock me up if they find out I'm still seeing you" you paused, not wanting to continue the subject at hand. "Have you been sleeping well? you don't look so good."

"Rude." he smiled, even he could make jokes sometimes. you laughed in response. Ja'far comtinued. "No I haven't.....nightmares."

"Then let's take a nap together. I know you wanna continue working but I'm worried about your health....and i heard sleeping next to the person you love might help you with your nightmares."

He knew he couldn't argue with your logic. Ja'far got up from his desk and moved to his bed. He took off his head wear to get a little more comfortable, while you kicked off your shoes and sat on the bed. Your lover laid down and you laid into his arms.

"I love you. Thank you for caring about me."
