Clementine has been trying to avoid what she felt for Alex the last few months since she figured out her feelings for him but it’s not easy as everything he does makes her fall more for him and some days she just wanted admit everything to him.
Clementine was sitting on the bench in the third period of the game against the Penguins, she was drinking some water watching the game as she watched Alex skate down the ice with the puck against his stick to the goal, when a player came and slammed him into to the boards making him fall straight onto to the ice and his stick falling out of his hands as he curled into a ball laying on the ice.
Clementine froze watching the trainers rush onto the ice towards Alex, Alex who still haven’t moved and was hugging himself tightly.
Jesper gently grabbed Clementine’s making sure she didn’t go running onto the ice towards Alex because she is worried for him. Jesper is one of three people who knew from Clementine about her feelings towards Alex and he knows how worried she is for Alex right not but running onto the ice won’t do any good.
Clementine watched tensely as the trainers helped Alex off to ice using the other door, she gripped onto Jesper’s arm tightly not even noticing grabbing it.
“Finish this game and you can go see him.” Jesper softly whispered to Clementine making sure no one else could hear him, he knows how worried she is but she can’t do anything until the game was finished.
Clementine gave a curt nod and was glad there was barely any time left in the period.
Clementine had two more shifts before the game was finished and she all but ran down the tunnels towards the medical room not even knocking as she quickly opened the door and saw none of the doctors or nurses in the room but only Alex who was in the middle of buttoning his buttoned shirt.
“Clem?” Alex questioned looking startled when the door slammed open, Clementine didn’t respond but shut the door behind her and quickly walked across the room and pulling him into a soft hug.
Alex froze slighty before wrapping his arms around her and rested his chin on the top of her head.
“Don’t ever do that again.” Clementine voice cracked as she mumbled against his chest.
“Do what?” Alex cluelessly questioned pulling back so he could her face.
“Get hurt! I didn’t know if you were okay.” Clementine smacked his arm giving him a stern look with tears linking her eyes.
“Oh Clem.” Alex soflty cooed as he realized she was worried for him, he pulled her back into a soft hug rubbing her back, “I’m okay.” He could feel her relax into the hug. Alex truthfully was okay, he was very sore but luckily no injuries but he had the wind knocked out of him from that hit.
Clementine took a deep breath trying to calm her rapid heart, “I was scared.” Clementine whispered, she knew now that she couldn’t hid how felt for him anymore as she never knew what was gonna happen the next day.
“I’m okay.” Alex smiled softly feeling terrible he made Clementine so worried but a part of him was also happy that she cared so much about him.
“Don’t do that again.” Clementine looked up at him but not moving out of his arms, “I-“ Clementine opened and closed her mouth not knowing how to get the words out.
“Take your time.” Alex spoke softly knowing she had something to say but she looked nervous and anxious.
Clementine pursed her lips and leaned forward until she could feel Alex’s nervous breath he let out, she took a deep breath before leaning forward and connecting her lips to his.

Clementine has always been better with actions than words.
Alex froze in complete shock making Clementine pull away quickly worried she messed everything up but Alex quickly cupped her face and pulled her back to him pressing his lips back to hers.
Clementine leaned up wrapping her hands around his neck, her fingers tangling into his hair.
Alex looked at her fondly as they pulled away, “I’ve been waiting to do that for a very long time.” Alex mused knowing he’s waited for a year now to kiss her.
“Me too.” Clementine softly admitted with a grin on her face.
“I can’t wait any longer and i know you deserve a better way to be asked but will you be my-“ Alex nervously rambled to Clementine.
“Yes.” Clementine grinned not even letting Alex finish asking.
Alex let out a breath the tension seeping from his body and let out a fond chuckle, “You didn’t even let me finish.” He rested his hands on her waist.
Clementine just shrugged and leaned up pressing her lips back to his.

THERE’S A REASON no one takes a chance on the underdog. “She’s not fast enough, she’s not strong enough, she’ll get hurt.” But they don’t know Riley Dell. No one knew Riley Dell; of her capabilities, her strengths, her weaknesses.
But this year, she was going to make a name of herself—no matter what, or who, stood in her way.
Tumblr media
SECT. I: TRAINING CAMP.
Media day was a living hell. The interviews consisted of the same tasteless questions: “How do you feel being the first female player in the NHL?” and “How are you going to measure up to the physicality of the other players in the league?” While everyone else was getting questions about their actual gameplay; how they’ll navigate their weaknesses and hone in on their strengths, Riley was getting compared to every single player imaginable.
And the pictures and videos weren’t any better. The photographers suggested that she layed off on the gloves and stick and instead held makeup—fucking makeup. Why the the fuck would she be holding a mascara wand on the ice? The entire day felt pointless. Not a single person took her seriously, and if she called them out, they would accuse her of complaining. She already got the “privilege” of being drafted, and now she wants to complain? Doesn’t look too great.
The day after, everyone hit the ice for actual training. Finally, a time where she could prove that she deserved to be there; that she earned her spot; that Riley Dell was a force to be reckoned with.
The training camp roster was split into three groups: A, B, and C. Throughout the weekend, the groups were to scrimmage, playing each team once. Group A was the one to keep your eye on. The goaltenders consisted of Tyler Brennan and Vitek Vanecek; defenseman being Brendan Smith, Colin Miller, Luke Hughes, Cal Foote, Michael Vukojevic, Kevin Bahl, and Joe Gambardella; and forwards being Tyce Thompson, Michael McLeod, Curtis Lazar, Max Willman, Jesper Bratt, Tyler Toffoli, Flip Engras, Tomas Nosek, Jack Hughes, and Riley Dell.
“Lindy fucking hates us,” Jack groaned upon seeing Riley tying her laces on the bench as groups A and B skated around the practice facility, getting ready to battle in their first scrimmage of the training camp. “That’s why he gave us Riley, right? To get back at us for not winning in the playoffs.”
Luke skated around his older brother, watching as Jack eyes Riley. “I don’t know why you hate her so much. She hasn’t even stepped foot on the ice yet, Jacky.”
“It’s more than the ice, Luke,” Jack turned to the younger boy, annoyance laced in his voice. “Once she joins the team, the entire dynamic will be off. What will happen to the locker room, Luke, or what will happen when we celebrate our wins? Is she gonna come to the bars with us? It’s stupid, Luke.”
“It’s one girl, Jack. The locker room will be fine, and what’s wrong with her coming to the bars? If anything’s stupid, it’s you, man,” Luke scoffed. “Now come on, being an asshole isn’t gonna win us this game,” Luke said, skating towards the rest of the team.
Once Riley’s laces were tired, she jetted off towards the ice, landing in front of their star player. “Hi, I’m Riley. You must be Jack,” she smiled softly, hand out for him to shake, but when he never stuck out his, she retracted it quickly. “So, I heard you had a career-high last season. Sounds like a dream.”
“Yeah,” Jack grumbled, skating beside her.
“Um,” Riley bit her cheek, thinking up things to say. Jack wasn’t much of a conversationalist, she thought. “Are you more of a toe-to-heel guy or heel-to-toe?”
Tired of hearing her voice, Jack spun around, stopping Riley in her tracks. “I don’t care that you got drafted to this team. Fitzgerald, and Lindy, and everyone else in this organization are going to realize they made a mistake and send you back to wherever you came from.” Venom pricked his tongue as the words smacked Riley one by one. Even the team didn’t like her. Driving his shoulder into hers, Jack watched her face turn from shock to complete anger. “Hope you didn’t unpack your bags, rookie.”
Swallowing the lump in her throat, Riley stood there, unmoveable. She wasn’t going to cry. She wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction, prove everything he assumed about her. She wasn’t going to let him win. Closing her eyes, she breathed in, out, and thought about every way she could make Jack Hughes’ life a living hell. Dramatic, but who knew there were real devils on this team?
Tumblr media
“Nice job out there, Dell,” Nico smiled at Riley, nudging her shoulder as they bounded into the locker room. “Don’t worry about Hughesy, he’s a softie once you get to know him.”
“If he ever gives me the chance to know him,” Riley sighed.
The game was a total train-wreck. I mean, their team won, but Riley was practically fighting for her life out there. Every single time she made it on the ice, Jack smashed her into the boards, or stole the puck from her, or never gave her the puck at all. His hate was evident and the entire team, not just team A but the entire Devils organization, could see it. How were they supposed to play an entire season together, when they could barely play one scrimmage?
“Don’t let that asshole win, Ri,” Luke stumbled into the conversation, placing his gear down by hers. Luke’s been playing with Riley for the past two years at the University of Michigan, and while they lost against Quinnipiac at the Frozen Four semifinals and Luke immediately left for the Devils after, their bond never deterred. Coming to the Devils felt like coming home (if home consisted of an egotistical jerk and a sexist media team).
Shaking her head, Riley held her practice jersey in her hands. “Promise me, that’ll be the last thing I do.”

tennessee orange
mat barzal x hughes sister!reader
summary: you hate how you look in orange but you would do anything for mat.
listen to the song while reading!
Tumblr media
Mama, I'm callin', I've got some news Don't ya tell daddy, he'll blow a fuse Don't worry, I'm doin' okay
When Jack first moved to New Jersey, you went with him. Your parents were a bit concerned about their rowdy, chaotic middle son going to New Jersey alone. The worry wasn’t there for your twin brother, Quinn, and he was responsible enough. You lived with Ty Smith and Jack for the year. Most of the time, you tried not to bother Jack often, not wanting to be an overbearing older sister.
You had found a job in New York, commuting each day on the train to work. You met Mat on one of your first weeks in New York. His secret favorite coffee shop wasn’t on Long Island, and he would always make his way there after rough morning skates. You were sitting in the coffee shop, working on your laptop during your lunch break. Mat saw you. He recognized you immediately. He just couldn’t put his finger on it.
He got his coffee before approaching you. “Do I know you?” Mat asked. Without looking up, you rolled your eyes, “Is that some sort of pickup line?” When you looked up, you were shocked to see Mat Barzal. Your eyes widened, “Oh, you play hockey.”
A cocky smile grew on his face, “So you gonna tell me where I’ve seen you before?”
“My brothers are in the league, Quinn and Jack Hughes. And my youngest brother Luke is going to be drafted in a couple of years, hopefully.”
Mat recognized the names quickly. Before he could speak again, your phone alarm went off. “It was nice to officially meet you, Mat. I gotta get back to the office, though. See you at games, I guess,” you gave him a smile.
He watched you pack up your bag, his body frozen in place. Before you could reach the door, he was blurting out to you, “Can I get your number?”
Just never thought I'd see the day. I've never felt this way
Mat made you feel different. A good different. You didn’t feel like the sister of Quinn and Jack Hughes and uprising star Luke Hughes. You didn’t feel like the daughter of Ellen and Jim Hughes, hockey stars as well. You just felt like you. Mat wanted to know your favorite color and the story behind the scar on your knee. He wanted to know how you drank your coffee and your opinion on different foods.
You were something different for Mat as well. He was used to dating people who used him for his status and didn’t want to get to know who he was underneath all the layers he had yet to peel back. His heart would flutter each time you would stay late in his bed, not caring if you were late to work and wearing his soft t-shirt, asking him about his childhood and his favorite song.
Mat was your favorite secret. You didn’t tell your parents or brothers. Most of the time, you were spending your nights in New York at Mat’s apartment. Jack was so caught up in his rookie year that he didn’t even notice your absence. You and Mat had snuck around for years before a discussion of telling everyone started.
I met somebody and he's got blue eyes. He opens the door and he don't make me cry. He ain't from where we're from. But he feels like home, yeah. He's got me doin' things I've never done
Mat had asked you to attend his game, offering you a blue and orange jersey. He pulled the jersey out of his closet, tossing it at you. You were over at his apartment after work one day. He watched with amusement at your face scowling up at the sight of his jersey. “What? Don’t like the colors?” he teased. “It’s partly orange.” You were used to wearing red for the Devils or Canucks colors or Michigan colors. The orange was a color you hadn’t worn before, really. Even when Luke was playing for the Littel Caesars hockey team, you didn’t wear orange.
Mat’s hand cupped your face, “Wear it for me? Please.”
You were swimming in his jersey. It felt different to you. Having a name on your back that wasn’t your own. A number that was not the number your brothers wore. “It looks good on you,” Mat smiled as he kissed you. It was a fuzzy feeling. He made you feel fuzzy inside, in a good way.
“Now you have something to wear to a game.”
Your stomach churned uncomfortably. “I think we should tell our family’s before we go out in public together,” you swallowed. Mat’s face fell a little bit, “Oh, right, yeah.” You grabbed his hands from your face. “Mat, I just want my brothers to hear it from me, not in some interview or some talk in the locker room. I will wear this jersey for you, even though I hate the orange, but just after I tell my family.”
I'm wearing Tennessee orange for him
It was the Christmas break. You and your brothers went up to Canada with your parents to watch Luke play in the Worlds. Your family sat down together for dinner. It was nice to have everyone there. Jack made a small comment about you never being in the apartment. Your twin shot you a confusing look. “I, uh, I met someone. In New York,” you swallowed. Mat had informed you that he wanted to tell his parents about you over the break, and you agreed to do the same.
Your mom smiled, “That’s great, honey!”
Your brothers almost threw a riot regarding your unknown boyfriend. The protectiveness kicking in. “Who is it?” Jack questioned loudly in the middle of the restaurant. You pushed around the food on your plate before mumbling, “You guys know him already.”
Luke had heard you, eyebrows furrowing together, “We know him?”
“He plays for the Islanders?” you said, laughing nervously.
And I wore the hat on his dash to the game. It sure wasn't Athens but I Fell for him under those Neyland lights
After the break, Mat was officially introduced to Jack first, coming over to New Jersey to your shared apartment. “Mat!” you were surprised he came to visit you. He smiled, a bouquet of flowers in his hands. “Jack is here,” you cleared your throat, Mat gazing over your shoulder at your younger brother watching. “I thought we could have dinner together. You’re always talking about that Italian place here,” Mat suggested as you let him come further into the apartment.
“Good idea! We can go to dinner!” Jack surprisingly shouted, standing to get his shoes. “I think he meant just me and him,” you sighed. “It’s fine, babe. Jack can join,” Mat said. “I promised Quinny I would watch the two of you anyway,” Jack mumbled.
During dinner, Jack was being obnoxious: asking Mat personal questions, making Mat and you sit apart, and making sure Mat knew you had brothers who wouldn’t let him get away with hurting you. At the end of dinner, Mat leaned over, whispering in your ear, “I thought Jack would be the easiest one to befriend.”
You chuckled, “At this point, you have the best chance of befriending Luke before the other two.”
Mama, forgive me, I like him a lot. Hell, I'm learning the words to Old Rocky Top. And he's got a smile that makes me forget, I've always looked better in red
Of course, Mat would ask you to attend the game that he was playing against Jack. Quinn happened to be in town as well since his schedule had him on the east coast. Your parents tried to come to the games where their sons play against one another, and they decided to stay for the Islanders and Devils game in New York.
You had been at Mat’s place before the game. You had slowly been moving in with him. Luke would be joining the Devils at the end of his NCAA season and taking your place in Jack’s apartment. “You going to wear my jersey?” Mat asked as he buttoned up his shirt. He wouldn’t force you to wear it, especially to a game where your brother was playing on the opposing team. The look in his eyes when he realized you were going to actually wear his jersey is a look you'll never forget. A look full of love for you.
When you agreed to wear Mat’s jersey to the game, you should had known you’d get a few chirps from your parents and Quinn, who were already sitting in the seats on the glass when you got there. “You’re wearing Mat’s jersey!?” Quinn exclaimed as you took a seat.
Your face heated up, “I still want the Devs to win, don’t worry. Just don’t tell Mat that.” Mat skated over to you during warm-ups, smiling as he saw you in his jersey. He waved before skating off again, making sure to score you two goals. You sat there, humming along to the chants from the Islanders fans in the arena. You didn’t even realize you were humming along. “You really like him?” your mom beamed. You nodded in response to her question.
Even though you hated how you looked in the Islanders jersey and in orange, you really did love him.
I'm wearing Tennessee orange for him

hot chocolate disaster with pairing of your choice?
Prompt: hot chocolate disaster
Prompt from @frostbeees advent calender prompt here
Send me a prompt!
Word count: 470
Ship: Jack Hughes/Ty Smith
Other: I have a lot of feelings about the Hughes family and cute hot chocolate shenanigans.
-
“Are you sure you know how to do this?”
“Of course I do, what do you take me for, a savage?”
Ty rolled his eyes. “I’m taking you as Jack Hughes, who doesn’t even know how to cook broccoli.”
“I know now,” Jack humphed. “It’s not like they showed us how to cook veggies in the dev.”
“Okay, so why should I believe you about the cocoa?”
Jack’s smile was soft, the genuine one Ty had noticed he only used when thinking of his family. He’d spent many nights wishing Jack would smile like that about him.
“My brothers and I didn’t get a lot of time together.” Jack’s smile turned a little bittersweet. “Hockey isn’t known for its family bonding time. But we’d get a break around Christmas, obviously, and my dad always made us hot chocolate the first night we were all together. Eventually he taught us all how to make it. Whenever -” Jack cleared his throat and looked down at his feet like looking in Ty’s eyes was difficult. “Whenever I get homesick I drink hot chocolate.”
“Well, then,” Ty said, reaching out a hand to touch Jack’s elbow gently. “Better figure out how to make your special hot cocoa before we have two Hughes bros to please.”
That was the perfect thing to say - Jack’s grin could light up all of New Jersey.
-
“No, no, no,” Jack groaned. “You’re going to burn the chocolate! Keep stirring!”
“I’m trying!” Ty yelled. “Why do you have to put actual chocolate in it - the things I do for you, Hughes, I swear to God.”
Instead of letting Ty continue, Jack turned off the stove and moved the pot off the burner.
“What - it wasn’t that bad -” Before Ty could continue complaining, because it wasn’t that bad, Jack was pressing their lips together. It was gentle and tasted of the chocolate Jack had been stealing.
When they parted, Ty felt like he’d run a race instead of just pressed his lips against Jack’s for five seconds. “This isn’t because of my amazing hot chocolate skills, right?” Because Ty was an idiot and had to ruin moments, of course.
Jack laughed brightly like he was charmed instead of annoyed, which didn’t happen often. “No, Ty. It’s not because of the hot chocolate.”
“Oh. Good.”
“Good?”
Ty nodded dumbly. “Please do it again.”
Jack laughed again. “How polite.”
“You know me, Canadian politeness all the way.”
“Oh, yeah, of course.”
Before Jack kissed him again, he smiled softly. It was -
Oh. It was the smile reserved for his family, the smile Ty had been so desperate to see directed towards him. It was small, but up close it was blinding, and it tasted even more beautiful than he could have begun to imagine.
