Hi! I’m conducting a survey within the Ten Club on their views of Pearl Jam’s activism and political involvement throughout their career. You do not have to view them as political to participate, I’m looking for any and all opinions regarding the topic! If you would be interested in participating or know someone who might be, please feel free to share this link! There is also an option to leave further info for an interview, however, there is a chance I may not have enough time to conduct those! Just a forewarning :) (More background info below the link:)
A little more on the inspiration behind this survey; I’m currently a student attending UNLV and am putting together an analysis on language within discourse communities. I’m probably considered a new Pearl Jam fan still, only really listening to them since early 2022, but I’ve always been really interested in their history and impact. However, I’m definitely not looking for only one type of answer, this survey is open to ALL, whether they agree or not. If you have any questions or would like to talk more about it, feel free to reach out! :)
As it was Joe’s birthday yesterday, I thought I’d share one of my fave solo songs of his. Out of character compared to most of his “00 G Punk Rock Warlord” stuff. Joe was enthralled with all music and I pretty much have him to thank for my musical curiosity. Check out the Spanish guitar provided by Zander Schloss who has been the bass player in the Circle Jerks since the mid 80s. Also, on the drums is Jack Irons of RHCP and Pearl Jam.
27 years ago, Pearl Jam wrapped up their 'No Code' Europe leg in Lisbon. This show is the only time PJ opened with "Who You Are," it featured a rousing "Porch," and this participatory snippet.
Lecture 21: “Give it Away” - Red Hot Chili Peppers: The alternative rock band with perhaps the most longevity has been the Red Hot Chili Peppers (RHCP), formed in Los Angeles, California in 1983 (and still active today) by school friends Anthony Kiedis, Michael Balzary (better known as Flea), Jack Irons, and Hillel Slovak. Though the line-up would change over time, Kiedis and Flea would remain the heart and creative force behind the band. From RHCP’s fifth studio album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991), “Give it Away” hit #1 in Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart and the music video enjoyed heavy airplay in the MTV line-up. The video, directed by French fashion photographer/director Stephane Sednaoui, employed innovative cinematography and was shot in black and white in a barren desert-like setting.
