It’d devastate me in a perfect way if the Waynes are famously known for bleeding for Gotham, for fighting for it, for dying for it, for loving it in every terrible way, while the Kanes despise it.
One half fights for a ruined place and the other for its ruination. Imagine Jacob Kane who hates Gotham, hates the Waynes, — because they made this city, and everything bad within it, — SO much, that he only agrees to leave Bruce with Alfred if he can bury Martha outside of Gotham.
Because no Wayne is ever getting to his family. Dead or alive.

Can you imagine what THREATS Alfred has hold against Jacob Kane so he respects Marta and Thomas'will to give him Bruce's custody.
How do you keep a military millionnaire who could potentially makes hiw own suicide squad in line ?

Every part of a family has the “problem child”, the scapegoat, the child that is hard to love and hard to hate
For the Kane family, it’s Philip
Philip has also been seen as disappointment and a brat by his parents and especially by Jacob but not by Martha
For the Wayne family, it’s Thomas Jr.
TJ is loved by his family but also not fully understood or appreciated but still loved by them unconditionally
For Bruce’s kids, it’s Jason
Jason is ride or die when it comes to family but he also wants their approval more than anything
Every family has a kid that they love but also don’t fully understand

2024-03-11 week "Good Cop, Bat Cop" update
We're now very close to the opening of the "Good Cop, Bat Cop" tournament, a poll tournament to decide the Batman media character who is basically a cop.
So far, there have been 24 submissions.
Dick Grayson is leading the number of submissions.
Close behind him is Jason Todd.
Behind him is Bruce Wayne, who is followed by Barbara Gordon.
Ace the Bat-Hound, Brother EYE, Cassandra Cain, Tim Drake, Lucius Fox, Tim "Jace" Fox, the Joker, Jacob Kane, Kate Kane, the Penguin, and Professor Pyg are currently tied.
Submissions will remain open until the final round of the tournament.
The match-up bracket will be posted at least a full 24 hours before the release of the first round of polls.
The main event will be the "Batman and Family" bracket, featuring Batman's team of crime-fighting buddies.
After the "Batman and Family" bracket, a number of finalists will go on to a general Gothamite bracket featuring other Batman characters such as villainous rogues, Brother EYE, Jacob Kane, etc.
In other news, this blog's posts should now appear in the tags! Thanks to Tumblr staff for resolving the issue. Hopefully the poll tournament can proceed smoothly as planned. Thank you all for your patience.

So Gotham Knights, in addition to demonizing Talia Al Ghul and making her the final boss, is also incredibly antisemitic by making Jacob Kane (who is canonically Jewish) the in game leader of The Court of Owls, a group of wealthy Gothamites who control society from the shadows (which is indistinguishable from most antisemitic conspiracy theories). Fuck this game.

12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them
Regarding ASOIAF/HotD....... I mean, honestly I'm very insulated from several sectors of the discourse since I'm on neither twitter nor tiktok but my pick's gonna have to be Shavepate. I think that he's pretty universally disliked and I think it's a disservice to him how he's overlooked and ignored - he's one of the leading Meereenese bureaucrats and in charge of so many of the changes that Dany wants to make. He represents the common folk of Meereen more than anyone else in Dany's arc, and he still gets either overlooked or demonised for being a character of color, despite the fact that his schemes seem to be genuinely done with the best interests of the burgeoning free middle class! He's the character in Dany's council that is most directly pushing against the Harpies and the old order and he's part of an entire cultural movement that is becoming the basis for Dany's legitimacy.
I genuinely think he's very underrated as a character and as a figure, and it deeply annoys me when people insist that he's working with Hizdahr and the Green Grace.
For other media that's on my mind... I've been big into comics lately and I think that Jacob Kane needs a spotlight. The entire Colony Arc was so interesting to me, and I think that the position he occupied in the original Batwoman run was so much more interesting than the cliche of being the antagonistic military dad. I want to get more of a spotlight of how his relationship with Martha was, and him with Bruce, and really dig deeper into it - he's so underwritten it's criminal for what potential he has.
For the HotD/Fire&Blood folks, Hugh Hammer is sooooo interesting and underrated. I want more details on the prophecy. I want him fleshed out beyond "dumb peasant". I want to see why he was a good match for Vermithor and how his relationship with the Greenies went.

And if I said “Thomas knocked Martha up on their first meeting and they had a shotgun wedding bc her family was pissed, so these are the only wedding pictures Bruce has” WHAT

Based on the green caption boxes and that the title is a play on the song by Harry Chapin, I'm guessing this story is narrated by Jacob.
Since he was so immediately supportive to Kate when she came out, this could be a story where he just gushes about his daughter.

I know it’s common opinion that Bruce stayed with Alfred instead of the Kanes was either because they’re a constantly moving military family or Martha didn’t want to burden them, but after seeing Kate’s dad I just think she wouldn’t want him raising her son anyway

I love the idea of Bruce, TJ, Kate and Beth bonding over how they are loved by their parents but they understand that they will never quite be exactly what their parents wanted
Bruce and Thomas Jr. were loved by Thomas and Martha but they were never sure they could live up to their legacy and Beth and Kate are loved by Jacob but they are the daughters he has and not the sons he wants

Did Tim ever get to punch Jacob? Like I don’t expect these things to keep being brought up, but it seems to me like nearly getting incinerated by your great uncle’s illegal domestic counterterrorism program resulting in an alien abduction and months of solitary confinement should earn you, bare minimum, one solid hit right in the face.

Barbara Gordon and Bruce Wayne are tied, with two submissions each.

Positivity meme: Say something nice about the CW version of Jacob Kane. Yes, this is revenge.
He is a great antagonist!
Like- I love the way they set him up as an opponent to the cause of superheroes in Gotham, the unique difficulties and rich vein of thematic opportunities around his role as the head of a private police force, which- state-employed police are bad enough, but a private force like that is even worse, combining the worst excesses of capitalism and authoritarianism in one body. I like the way that while he is not personally corrupt, necessarily, his mindset allows him to ignore corruption within the organisation he built, and the way that he is entirely blind to the hypocrisy of his ranting about how superheroes have no oversight while entirely ignoring that the Crows...don't really seem to either.
Like, as an antagonist and a foil for Batwoman and the absent Batman, Jacob is a great character, and this is the version of him I mean to use for my own 'verse for a reason! I may detest him as a person, but he's a compelling and nuanced antagonist, and I can think of so many situations and character dynamics he would be fascinating to explore in.
