new york city in the summer was a different kind of energy; a blur of heat, and movement, and a constant buzz of noise. its ever-stirring rhythm even reached its spindly fingers inside parker's hotel room at night, the hushed murmur a sort of mind-numbing relief. though her travel plans so far this summer had been a mystery to even her, she should've assumed she'd eventually end up here. the city. enough ogden students lived on or near the island to warrant a visit, but it was more than that. parker loved it here. the rhythm, the freedom, the need for independence.

the nightlife. always something going on, luring you inside doors, down hallways, to the middle of crowds. the walkability made everything within reach.

that night, the distracting, near-overwhelming feeling had led both parker and jacqui through two bars already, the third just within their grasps. the redhead looked over her shoulder as she strode further into the mouth of the beast, making sure jacqui was still within sight, and the action earned her a sudden bump—or shove. "whoa!" she laughed, eyes widening as she found a spacious enough place to stand. "if only hamptons bars got this lively."

I'm having so much fun with this Writing ask game!

Jacqui, my love, thank you for giving me this opportunity. I haven't written percabeth in so long, i hope i can still do them justice.

For you, I am trying my best to not make it super angsty, but it did come up with Starlight by Starset. So.

The line i chose is

Percy runs a hand down Annabeth’s cheek. “You're beautiful.”

She gives him a look. Her hair is thin and pale, no longer thick with golden curls. Her cheeks are taunt. Her eyes still hold a faint red within them, like the skies from Tartarus. She's as pale as a ghost.

But she's here.

“I look like I've just come back from hell.”

Percy lets out a soft laugh. “I'd argue it was worse than hell.”

Annabeth shivers and leans into Percy's palm. “You're right.”

“You're still beautiful,” Percy says. “Especially here. On Earth. Under the sun. In air that isn't killing us.”

She smiles something gentle. “Yeah, you are, too.”

“I know.”

Annabeth smacks him in the chest lightly but then grabs the front of his shirt. She kisses him and kisses him and kisses him.

I was going to have something about the stars to match the song more and then i remembered "The stars say hello" and got sad so foebfosnfonapf

both hands gripped nervously at the paper bag within grasp; the sound undoubtedly an a minor announce to any passersby, but mute to parker’s ears. in her head, she ran the words back over and over again. it isn’t sitting well with me and i’m not proud of the last few days and jesus, sorry i acted like a c—loop, after loop, after loop. though her efforts, which easily occupied her thoughts until she reached the waverly dorm building, were in vain. each thought-out word and explanation slipped from her like water in her hands.

parker breezed through the first floor studies, almost missing a fellow acting student’s wave entirely. second floor, #201. that was the thing about housing at ogden—everyone ended up knowing where everyone else lived. outside of a locked door and the odds of missing someone while they were out, there was nowhere to hide. it was as helpful, she’d found, as it could be frustrating. hopefully, should the person she sought out be in their dorm, they wouldn’t consider it the latter.

of course, there was only one way to tell. once close enough, parker shifted the large bag into one arm, using the opposite’s hand to knock. in the seconds that followed she considered the odds of ollie answering, or KJ, or no one at all. what she’d do, if she’d perhaps wait downstairs. that is, until the door opened and she was once again face-to-face with jacqui. in their dorm, at their door, but the churn in parker’s stomach remained. only, this time, it ached with an acute sense of guilt and regret. “hey,” the redhead greeted, eyes flickering over the other’s shoulder in an attempt to make sure she wasn’t interrupting anything.  “do you have a few minutes? i feel like i’ve been a dick the past couple of days—” not replying to their text outright, not particularly seeking them out at the dorm party, “and i owe you an apology.” her weight shifted and she became aware of the bag in her hands again. “and, well, this,” she picked up, nervously glancing down at it as she lifted it some, “it isn’t making breakfast. it’s, you know, pre-made, but i figured we could take the sandwiches or crepes apart and reassemble them if we really wanted to.” though her lips curved into a small grin at the words, she couldn’t help but think, fuck, that was stupid.
