Starter for: Theo and @ethvns
Location: Merrock Fire Station, Downtown Merrock
When: Monday, January 29, 10 am
Every so often the Merrock Fire Department would help out people in the neighborhood outside of their usual occupational acitivies. This included kids who needed to earn community service credits in school, various groups who volunteered for community service, adults who needed community service credit after a a rehab program, and adults who needed a job after being released from jail or prison. So when the paperwork passed through Theo's desk about someone needing to help out as a condition of his parole, he signed it right away. After rereading the name of the person, Theo thought for a moment, wondering why it sounded so familiar. He knew most, of not all of the locals, whether through his work or through growing up in town. He recognized the name Shephard, wondering if it was any relation to William Shephard, someone Theo knew all too well through both work and because of growing up in town. He figured it wasn't too rare of a name so he'd leave any and all thoughts on the back burner until meeting the firehouse's new employee. Theo was just getting settled in with the rest of the truck, having the crew run some drills when he saw a young man enter the apparatus floor. "You must be Ethan." He said and extended a hand to the young man in front of him. Though it had been some time since they had a volunteer, Theo reminded everyone to be on their best behavior.

After his conversation with his ex-wife, Don took a few days while he decided if he was actually going to go visit is delinquent of a son. If Nancy had just listened to him when Ricky got out of jail, he felt like he could've gotten the boy sober before now, but she always wanted to do it her way. Thinking she could help him, but she always made it worse. Hell, it was why their kids were the way they were. But, he figured he should go in now while he could. Maybe straighten him out while he had no where to go to escape it. After signing in and being brought back to a room, he waited for his son to appear and once the door opened, he just sat in the chair and looked at him. "Ricky. You look better than the last time I saw you." He commented.

PERSONALITY
+ assertive, resourceful, confident, independent - selfish, dishonest, reckless, pigheaded
ethan is the kind of person your parents warned you not to be friends with; the type of guy who tells you his ex is bat-shit crazy when he’s the one who drove her insane. with questionable morals and few redeeming qualities to make up for it, he rarely does anything for anyone unless it benefits him directly.
WRITTEN BY: AJ (she/her), gmt+1.
BACKGROUND / BIO
sensitive / triggering content: neglect, alcoholism, violence, drugs, imprisonment
born in merrock to william and helen, ethan's life has always stood in stark contrast to the idyllic nature of his hometown. from a young age, he learned that the world didn’t owe him anything regardless of the hardships he faced - and they were plenty. neither william nor helen had wanted kids at the time, but helen was too far along for an abortion when they learned that she was pregnant. from the moment ethan entered the world, helen made it clear that his presence was unwanted. she shouldered the role of unwilling mother for the next five years until she finally skipped town, only leaving a hastily scribbled note saying that she couldn’t do “this” anymore. from then on, it was just ethan and his dad, who had his own set of demons to contend with. his long-standing habit of seeking comfort in the bottom of a glass eventually cost him his job and by then, he was already known around town as a drunk.
ethan's own reputation was far from spotless; his teenage years were filled with run-ins with the law and various stints in juvie for petty theft and assault. written off as a lost cause by most of his teachers, he coasted through school doing just enough to pass, and nothing else. it was only a matter of time before he realized he could make a quick buck by dealing drugs on behalf of someone higher up in the trade. what started out as an easy way to make money on the side eventually turned into a career he had no thoughts of giving up on - until he was caught. a routine traffic stop ended with ethan being arrested for gun and drug possession, landing him a 5-year sentence in state prison.
his time behind bars was tougher than he’d care to admit, far different from what he knew from juvie. sharing a space with other felons was no joke, but working in the kitchen usually kept him out of trouble. having served 3 years of his sentence, he was granted parole on a set of conditions including community service and random drug tests. upon returning home to merrock, ethan, now aged 27, moved out of his childhood home and into his own apartment downtown. he cut ties with everyone he knew in the drug business and managed to land a job as a cook at the local sports bar. despite his efforts to put the past behind him, every so often he still finds himself struggling between doing what’s easy and what’s right.

closed starter for @evrenosman location: Founder's Square, Sunny Side Up's booth
There was a part of Luciana that found it weird to be out in the world like this again. She hadn't realized how used to being off the grid was until she was back in a town and living what was considered a normal life and she was trying to get back into that. She got a job, got a cheap place, and she was trying to get a little money saved to get anything else she needed. Anything else before she went and saw her daughter. Sure, part of the reason she hadn't been out there yet was because of nerves, but she'd been there a little over a month now and knew she'd have to go sometime. Let her know and Evren's mom know she was there. She was better. She could be Rowan's mom again.
Seeing the kids at the event, she was thinking about her a lot more. Part of her was scared she would spot her amongst the crowd. What would she do then? Lucy tired not to think about it too much as she went to hand someone their drink and her eyes found Evren close by. He was there? He was out of jail? The shock made her drop the drink and it spilled all over the place, causing the guy it was for to get upset at her and she bent down to clean it up while apologizing. She prayed now that she was down here, Evren wouldn't see her, but as she stood and another worker gave the man a new drink, she saw her ex, her daughter's father standing there. "E-Evren. Hi."

Task 01. Character Arc & Development
What does your character want (their goal or challenge)?
He wants to be able to legally adopt his niece, so she won't be reliant on an absentee father anymore and so that he can officially take the responsibility off his grandparents' shoulders.
He also wants to be able to open his own fine dining restaurant.
Finally, he wants to get out from the shadow going to jail has cast over him. He desperately wants his innocence to be shouted from the rooftops but as long as his brother is MIA, there's no one to prove his innocence.
What are their external needs/desires?
He needs to save enough money so that he can afford a really good lawyer. With a record hovering over him, he knows he's going to need to fight like hell to get any judge to grant him custody of his niece. On top of this, Marco just needs to find his brother. He won't be able to make much progress with any of his goals without tracking down his brother.
What or who stands in their way and could stop them?
The biggest thing standing in his way right now, of just about all of his goals, is money. After being in jail for the last five years, he has next to nothing and the legal fees alone to adopt his niece are going to be a huge barrier to him being able to save up to open his own restaurant.
His brother is the other factor standing in this way for a lot of this. If Juan wanted to, he could make it really difficult not only for Marco to adopt his niece, but also to clear his name in the eyes of the public.
What will they do about it?
Now that he has managed to get a job at Salt Flats Station, Marco is going to save each and every penny he makes. He's currently staying at Juan's apartment since his brother has been MIA since before Marco was released, but eventually he's going to probably move back in with his grandparents so he can be closer to Gabriela but also so he can save even more of his paycheck.
He's also desperately trying to track down Juan. He's been asking anyone around town who might know him.
What happens if they fail?
If he fails, Marco is worried Juan could show up and take Gabriela. He's already proven he's an unfit father and Marco is truly terrified for Gabriela's wellbeing and safety if that were to happen. If he's unable to ever open his own restaurant, it will be like the nail in the coffin that Marco truly sacrificed his life for nothing. He's really been feeling like taking the blame for Juan so Juan didn't have to go to prison was a mistake and that will just solidify that not only was it a mistake, but it was a complete waste thatMarco is the only one who paid for. Same goes for restoring his name in the community.
What sacrifices might they have to make?
His financial freedom, his living situation, his relationship with his brother. Marco doesn't have much, but he might just have to sacrifice it all.
What motivates them inwardly and why?
Marco has always been motivated by the desire to take care of others. Something was instilled in him when his father left Marco and Juan in Salt Flats that it was Marco's responsibility to make sure they okay. And this has bled into just about every facet of his life to this day.
What is their internal struggle?
Finding his self worth in his ability to take care of others no matter what. When he's not able to do that, even because of things that are out of his control, Marco tends to really struggle.
What are their flaws? How do their flaws play into their internal struggle?
Needing to feel in control all the time, holding himself to an impossible standard, hates change, has far too high expectations for those around him, over protective.
What fundamental changes do you want to see in your character?
I want him to no longer find his value in being able to take care of everything and everyone around him and to not be consumed by the regret he feels for going to jail for his brother.
What heroic qualities must emerge for them to succeed?
Vulnerability, self confidence, and forgiveness of himself and others.

"MISS CABRERA. i'm special agent peter strahm. i was wondering if you'd have a minute?" it wasn't optional. perhaps that was what peter had made it seem like but.. right now, he knew that he would have to change that. the captain had given him one job and if he was going to get back in her good graces? that was precisely what he needed to make that happen, that was for sure. right? oh, yes. he needed to be on her good side for more than one reason and yes, if that involved getting dirt on lawrence gordon? that was precisely what he was going to make happen, that was for sure. he didn't think that would be changing anytime soon, no. "it's about your boyfriend. lawrence gordon? look, i'm gonna be clear here. he's about to spend the rest of his life in jail for murder and maybe, just maybe - your word is the only thing who can save him." @itwcsmcroon

tatum had been beyond thrilled at hearing her father and grace's parents had been locked away and that they could go to huntsville to join everyone else. for now, tatum and grace were sharing a small apartment near her mother but tatum was itching to go see everyone again. it had been ages, but tinsley had said she shouldn't go yet until they were warned her and grace were there.
tatum flopped onto the couch and looked over at grace. "who are you going to see first, fi or phin?" she asked her cousin. "how do you think they're going to react?"

Honestly I don’t know what I’m gonna do when we inevitably probably have to see another therapist due to life situations or whatever cause like, I literally sit here and be a horrifically probably overtly antisocial and like comment on how I want to stab people like 15 times in an hour long session with the knowledge that I actively practice knife combat and go off about how much I just hate most people and am annoyed with dealing with shit and crap, and if we didn’t have such a mutual understanding and rapport to know we both have the self control to not do that, that I have a strong vision on where I want to go and know that isn’t conducive to my life, and that honestly my resting mood is annoyance, anger, and violence like - I’d get us 5150′d so fucking fast.
Like I’m very bad at filtering myself if you get me going on how I actually feel about things and like, fucking love this therapist cause I’m just out here regularly calling him a bitch and spewing out all the 5150 urges like its a Tuesday and walking in with my 900 skeletons in my closet and he’s just like “Ah, I hear you.” like THANK YOU jesus. Just cause I feel this way and genuinely feel this way doesn’t mean I’m gonna go off and fucking do it and thank you for understanding that jesus.
Love a good professional that sees an “evil” alter and doesn’t just fucking lock them up in jail. This one is not a cop and I love that.

CHARACTER INFORMATION
face claim: Lili Reinhart
full name: Vivienne Faye Quinn
nickname(s) / goes by: Vi, Vivienne, Queen, Quinnie
pronouns & gender: she/her/hers and cis woman
sexuality: bisexual
birth date: March 23, 1995
birth place: Merrock, Maine
arrival to merrock: since birth
housing: downtown with roommate, Sylvia
occupation: Student, part-time librarian, part-time stripper
work place: Merrock Public Library
family: Elise Quinn - older half-sibling, potential other half-siblings on both father’s and mother’s side
relationship status: single
PERSONALITY
Feisty wild-child with a free spirit sums up Vivienne. Being the youngest of the Quinn’s by way of being a half sibling meant she got away with a lot more than she probably should have. Product of an affair between her father of the Quinn’s and her mother lead to her rebellious attitude. He’s always tried but she’s the quintessential daddy issues wrapped up in the need to rebel, be wild, and go a little crazy.
WRITTEN BY: Bri (she/her), est.
BACKGROUND / BIO
triggering / sensitive content: sex work tw, drug use tw, toxic relationship tw, stealing tw, jail tw
Vivienne being considered the ‘oops’ of the Quinn family would be an understatement of Merrock history. Product of an affair from her father, a well-known family of Merrock, the Quinn’s, and her mother a woman passing through to visit an ailing aunt. The Quinn’s had long since decided to stop expand their family but the affair had other plans and on March 23rd out popped Vivienne Faye. For awhile her mother settled down roots in Merrock in attempts to make things work as best as she could, being the other woman. Not that she wanted a relationship, just a father figure for her little girl. Which was something that Vivienne got, she had a supportive father who tried not to treat her differently, a step-mother who never took any anger out on her, and step-siblings that didn’t seem to hate her. Of course when she was younger she didn’t understand why they didn’t all live together. It wasn’t until her teen years did she understand that she was the product of an affair her father had which crushed her a little bit. Especially given the fact that she idolized her half-siblings, specifically her older sister Elise.
Elise was the picture perfect image of perfection in Vivienne’s mind. She was gorgeous, smart, powerful, had grace, and everything she wished she could be. While she loved her older half-sibling that didn’t stop that bit of envy she had wishing she was more like her. Instead, because of the age difference, she pushed buttons, pressed boundaries, attempted to act out, and most definitely had some daddy issues. While he was always in her life, she struggled knowing that she was never ‘fully’ a Quinn, and that she was the blemish on a perfect family. Once old enough and the needing space developed some more confusing feelings, she went off on her own way traveling through the US, down the East Coast, working when she needed the money in bars, restaurants, and wherever she could make a few quick bucks. That also meant she wasn’t afraid to jump up on stage and remove her clothes for men who threw money at her. When she started working at strip clubs more frequently she ran into an older male who took advantage of the fact that she had glaring daddy issues and dragged her further into trouble.
She became wrapped up in the life of posting online videos exposing her body on sites such as OnlyFans, stealing, doing drugs, and pretty much doing whatever the older man requested of her. She thought he was showing her the world, but all that ended with her in a pair of handcuffs and in jail. During the time that she was gone, her mother moved away from Merrock settling in Upstate New York no longer needing to be close to the town that reminded her of the decisions she had made. When Vivienne was arrested, it was her father who bailed her out and gave her a choice. Move back in with her mother and get a full time job or move back to Merrock, enroll in community classes and he’d help her find a part time job. At first it had been an adjustment living in the Quinn household full-time until she got a part time job at the library and moved out into Downtown with her roommate. She’s enrolled back in school but doesn’t have a clue what she wants to do with her life or what she’ll ever be good at other than being the ‘messed up Quinn’ but she is where she is now. For now she’s happy reading books to little kids in between stocking shelves at the local library, taking random courses while she figures things out, and sometimes when money get a little tight, dabbling back into her online life with videos for her ‘fans’ but this time she controls the dynamics.

— INTRODUCTING JESSE MARINO
Tumblr media
welcome to marina, JESSE MARINO ( cis man, he/hm ) ! they are a THIRTY-FOUR year old who has lived over on HYLAND PARK for TEN YEARS and works as a OWNER OF DEADLY INKS. everyone says they look a lot like CASEY DEIDRICK. what do you think? — ALYSSA, 29, PST, SHE/HER.
b a c k g r o u n d ;
Jesse was born in a Savannah, Georgia. He was the oldest Marino and has two younger sisters (tbd). His father was a politician and his mother was the typical southern belle.
There was a lot of pressure on the eldest Marino to become the type of man who could make the family proud, and carry on the family name without ruining it.
He was able to effortlessly interact with anyone who crossed his path, building those relationships like it was nothing but things changed when he was sixteen.
He was invited to a party, the only thing he didn't imagine was his younger sister also being invited to the party. She was fourteen at the time, an age where he would have told her to stay the fuck home and not even think about it.
One of his friends pulled him aside that night and told him they thought they saw his sister going upstairs with tool in his grade. So, he went up to one of the rooms. When he opened the door, he noticed his sister on the bed and one of the guys near her. He didn't take time to assess the scene or figure out what was happening since he jumped to the worst conclusion.
He pulled the guy back by his hair and started to hit him over and over and over. His friends had to pull him off of the guy. Instead of saying much, all Jesse did was get his sister out of the house and took her home.
The next day the cops showed up, put cuffs on him and took him away, creating the image his father worked so hard not to have which is why Jesse's father made him suffer in juvie and when he got out, his family had moved out of town and left him behind.
He was eighteen when he got out, he jumped from couch to couch until he had a friend who moved to Marina Heights and informed him of a tattoo parlor that was hiring. So, he packed up his things and moved to the island.
The man who owned the tattoo parlor took Jesse under his wing and treated him like a son more than his own father had. He focused on the tattooing and working toward becoming someone who could take over the shop one day.
When he was twenty-eight, that's when he met her. She swept him off his feet and he didn't think life could get any better. About two years in, he was ready to plop down onto one knee and ask her to marry him.
At least until he walked in on her in bed with his best friend. Instead of saying anything, he left the apartment and sent another friend to pack his things.
That was three months ago, Jesse recently took over the parlor and hasn't even tried to have another relationship.

BASICS.
Name: Javier Castillo Age: 30 Occupation: Barber / Weed Dealer Neighborhood: Westside Gender & Preferred Pronouns: Cis Man, He/Him Sexuality: Bisexual Face Claim: Tommy Martinez
BIOGRAPHY.
tw: deportation, death, foster care, crime
Javier was born to two immigrant parents from Venezuela in Los Angeles, California after they left Venezuela to seek out a safe place to raise a family. He has one younger sister that he hasn’t seen since he was five years old but he thinks about her all the time. When she was born there were complications and his mother had to go to the hospital. Because she and Javier’s father were undocumented, they were detained and deported shortly after Andrea was born.
After his parents were deported, Javier was put into foster care where he and his sister were separated immediately. He was five years old and never saw his infant sister again. He bounced around foster homes all over the state for a few years until his behavior got out of control and he was sent to a group home in Half Moon Bay when he was ten. Javi spent the next few years there until he emancipated himself at sixteen.
There was never anyone who took an interest in Javier. No family to keep an eye on him, no foster parents that would love him. He learned to be self-sufficient and watch his own back at a young age. For a long time he wouldn’t let anyone close to him, pushing away every person who ever tried to be his friend. Until he moved to the group home and met the two best friends who would become his family.
Noa and Ricky were both around his age and came from the same kinds of mess. At first Javi was skeptical that anyone could understand what he’d been through. Some of the foster homes he’d been in before coming to the group home were darker than he ever chose to speak of. To this day they’re the only ones he’s ever told about his experiences. It didn’t take long before the three of them were attached at the hip and causing chaos all over town together.
Smoking pot and petty theft kept Javier busy for a while but as he got older, the three of them started getting into more trouble. With no one to keep them accountable or guide them in the right direction, things got out of hand before he knew it. Javi started getting picked up by the cops and falling into trouble way too often. He didn’t see a future for himself that didn’t revolve around criminal activity so there was very little that motivated him to keep his shit together. Besides his budding feelings for Noa anyway.
It seemed he wasn’t the only one who felt that way though and when Ricky confessed his feelings for Noa, Javier took it hard. He got angry and pushed them both away, putting distance between them when the pair started to date. He got picked up by the cops more frequently, started selling pot and dabbling in using other drugs. It wasn’t until Noa told him that she felt something for him too that he pulled himself back from the ledge. Ricky and Javier got in a huge fight over it and before they could settle it, make things right, the unthinkable happened.
Things happened so fast after the shots were fired that night. Javier couldn’t get to Ricky in time but he could get to Noa. He threw himself on top of her and they barely escaped with their lives. He couldn’t say the same for Ricky. They’d gotten in over their heads that night, involved in something they didn’t realize was as dangerous as it was. When Ricky died that night, so did any chance of Javier ever making things right again. He did everything to push Noa away, realizing that if she didn’t get the hell out of Half Moon Bay, something or someone might come for her and that was a reality he could not live with.
Javier eventually convinced Noa to leave, but not without destroying their relationship first. He said a lot of hurtful things, it was easier to let her go if she hated him. She’d neve abandon Javier any other way and he knew that. So he broke both their hearts and never said goodbye to her, hoping that she’d find a life that was better and safer somewhere far away from here.
Nothing held any more meaning in Javier’s life and so he got himself locked up for a few years, assault and battery, possession of drugs, and grand larceny. Javi spent five years in a state penitentiary before coming back to Half Moon Bay and getting a job at a barber shop. He’s stayed out of major trouble since then, deciding that prison wasn’t his favorite place on earth and now keeps to selling weed and cutting hair.
Though he’s got a very rough exterior and doesn’t have too many people that he considers to be friends, Javi does have a good heart underneath it all. He’s terrified of letting anyone get too close to him but for those who somehow sneak past his walls, he will go to hell and back for them with no questions asked. He’s a ride or die in every sense of the word.
