The House of Representatives passed a bill to establish an Office of Food Security at the Department of Veterans Affairs, with 49 Republicans voting against the proposal.
The Food Security for All Veterans Act was passed by a 376-49 vote, sending the bill to the Senate for approval.
The legislation, introduced by Democratic Rep. Mary Peltola, aims to establish a department to assist veterans facing food insecurity and lack of nutrition, such as providing them with information about food stamps and other programs.
Speaking on the House floor to advocate for what was her fist bill, Peltola said Alaska's high veteran population motivated her to push for the introduction of the department.
"There is nothing more important than ensuring our veterans and their families can enjoy a safe and healthy life after their service to our country," Peltola said.
The bill received overwhelming bipartisan support, with 49 Republicans being the only lawmakers who voted against the introduction of an Office of Food Security at the Department of Veterans Affairs, some of whom are military veterans themselves.

Playing With Fire ~ Chapter Thirty-Five
Dunraven Pub - Modern AU
Summary: Thorin Durin likes his life just the way it is—his pub is successful, he’s happily playing the field when it comes to women. He wouldn’t change a damn thing about it. At least, not until he meets Leda Andrews, who stops to help him when his car dies on the side of the road.
Leda is new in town, and late for a job interview when she stops to help a guy with his broken down old car. The last thing she expected was for him to be the same guy who owns the pub where she’s applied to be a bartender, never mind to be one of the hottest men she’s ever seen.
Sparks fly, and while Leda’s got a few ground rules that Thorin is more than willing to abide by, neither one of them expected their fling to turn into anything more serious, or that they would be faced with a situation neither one is prepared for. So, what happens when a no-strings-attached affair teeters on becoming the real thing…
Summary: A wedding… and a wedding night…

Thorin eased his Mustang into a visitor’s parking spot in the main lot at Sidleburg Memorial and climbed out. A hint of spring hung in the air—the trees were just beginning to bud and warm weather promised it wasn’t far off, even if the breeze was still a bit cool. But, it was only mid-March, so they still had a ways to go. Still, he’d take it and smiled as he crossed the lot and go through the hospital’s main doors.
Obstetrics and Gynecology was on the eighth floor and Frerin’s office was at the far end of the corridor. Thorin stepped into the reception area and smiled at his brother’s secretary. “Is Dr. Durin in?”
“Can I tell him who’s here?”
“I’m his brother, Thorin.”
Her eyes widened slightly and she smiled. “Have a seat, Mr. Durin. I’ll let him know you’re here.”
“Thank you.” He moved to the row of vinyl and wood chairs and sank into one. The reception area was empty. A quiet morning.
Frerin came out. “Thorin? What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Vinyl crackled as he stood. “You have a minute? There’s something I needed to talk to you about.”
“Yeah, sure. Come on in. Sandra, if anyone calls, tell them I’m in a meeting, unless it’s an emergency.”
“Will do, Dr. Durin.”
“Come on in.” Frerin pushed open his frosted glass office door and waited for Thorin to step into his office, the pulled the door closed behind him. “What’s going on?”
Thorin leaned against the edge of the massive oak desk that dominated the spacious, sun-drenched corner office. Frerin’s various degrees and certifications adorned the walls, and the glass shelves inside the oak cabinets held family photos in silver frames. Thorin noticed immediately that all photos of Toni had been swapped out.
“How are they doing?” He nodded toward the cabinet.
“They’re doing okay.” Frerin sighed softly as he moved to sink on the edge of the wide windowsill. “Flynn was allowed to remain on the baseball team and he was suspended for two days, but that’s it for his fight with Riley Crenshaw.”
“How are Maura and Jake doing?”
“They’re getting there. We’re all in therapy.” Frerin rubbed his eyes slowly. “We go into New York for counseling, since I’d rather no one here know my personal business. And Toni and I’ve been talking. Really talking. It’s probably the first time since Jake was born that we are.”
“That long?”
“Yeah. It’s easy to get lost, Thorin. Work. Kids. Before you know it, it’s like you don’t know each other any more and that’s when the temptation can get too powerful to ignore.”
“So, what now?”
Frerin combed his fingers through his hair. “I don’t know. We—uh— we’re still in the talking stage. She wants to try to work it out. I’m not so sure. The kids seem a lot happier now, or at least on their way to being happier. And I don’t know I want to try to work it out. A lot’s been said and a lot’s been done and I… I don’t think I’m in love with her any longer. And I think I haven’t been for a long time. We should’ve never gotten married.”
“What does Dís think?”
Frerin gave him a look. “What do you think she thinks?”
“You should work it out.”
“Yeah. She thinks we just need to talk and maybe cry a little and I’ll forget she fucked someone else and she’ll forget that I fucked someone else and we both know that ain’t happening.” Frerin sighed again, and shook his head as he offered up a grin. “But somehow, I don’t think you came here to ask me about my divorce, so what’s up?”
“Okay, you know Leda and I were talking about the wedding and we both decided we really don’t want anything big and fancy, so we’re going to go the courthouse and just do it. No fuss, no muss, just her and me and a justice of the peace.”
“Sounds more your style anyway.”
“Yeah, and definitely more Leda’s.” Thorin grinned, moving to sit alongside his brother. “So, I wanted to ask if you’d stand up with me when we do this?”
“You want me to be your best man?”
“Well, yeah.” Thorin nodded. “Who else would I ask?”
“Dwalin? Dori? Nori?”
“Nah… I was your best man, so seems fitting you should be mine. So will you?”
Frerin nodded. “Yeah, did you think I’d say no. Of course I will.”
“Good. Uh… we’re doing this today, so—”
“Today?”
Thorin nodded. “Yeah.”
“Not letting any moss gather, eh? Afraid she’ll change her mind?”
Thorin chuckled. “Yeah, you got me. She and I’ve been talking about it, and she originally wanted to wait until the babies were born before making another life change, but I don’t know. I guess I wore her down.”
“Did you hound this poor woman into marrying you, Thorin?”
“What? No. I—uh—I bought the ring before Christmas and just tucked it into a drawer and figured when then moment was right…” He shrugged. “And a few weeks ago, she just asked me to ask her to marry me again, and I did.”
Frerin smiled, nudging Thorin with his shoulder. “I envy you, man. You two are going to be happy, you know. For a long time. I can feel it.”
“I hope so.”
“You will.”
“It’s so weird, though, you know? I mean, I fought this for the longest time,” Thorin said with a grin as he shook his head. “Always so worried what I’d be missing by tying myself down, afraid the next girl might be the one to rock my world, you know?”
“No, actually. I don’t. I’ve been married almost as long as I was single, remember? I didn't get to play the field the way you did. You had the right idea, Thorin. See what’s out there, so when you knew, you knew.”
“Frer, I didn’t know. I mean, I thought I might be beginning to feel something for her but it took her getting pregnant to shove me in the right direction and make me realize I didn't want to lose her. And I don’t give a shit who’s in the next room now. A few weeks ago, a shot girl hit on me and l wasn't even tempted. I’m where I want to be and Leda’s the woman I’m meant to be with and now, I just want to make us official.”
“A shot girl? Not the ones you had at Super Bowl.”
Thorin nodded. “The same.”
Frerin made a sound that was very close to a whimper. “And you turned her down?”
“Yeah, I turned her down. I just told you, she did nothing for me. Leda’s ruined me for any other women.”
“Yeah, but those girls were smoking hot, Thor.”
“My girl is smoking hot, too.”
“Yeah, but… damn… how do you turn down someone like that?”
“That’s what I mean, I didn't think twice about it. She’s not Leda and Leda is the only one I want. I told you, she’s ruined me for any other women.” Thorin grinned. “I know what I’ve got with her, and I wouldn’t fuck that up for anything.”
Frerin sighed softly, shaking his head. “I have to admit, I never thought I’d hear anything even remotely similar to this coming from you.” He smiled. "And in a few months, you’re going to be a dad, man.”
“Yeah, bet you never thought you’d say that to me as well.”
“I had my doubts.” Frerin let out a soft laugh. “And I’m happy for you. For both of you. Leda’s perfect for you. And I think you’ll be a good father, Thorin. You’ve been enough of one to Fíli and Kíli, and mine know they can come to you for anything as well.”
“I’m scared as hell about it, Frer,” Thorin admitted softly. “Twins, man. We’re having twins. Two little babies and I’ll have no fucking idea what I’m doing.”
“And you’re going to do just fine. You’ll see.”
“I hope so, because I’m scared shitless about it. I don’t want to fuck this up, not any of it.”
“You love Leda, right? And she loves you?”
“Yeah and yeah.”
“You’ll be fine.” Frerin pushed up from the sill. “So, where and what time?”
“County Courthouse and three o’clock, if you can get away.”
“I should be able to, yeah. I’ll see you then.”
“You look nervous, Leda.”
Leda smiled at Zana as they made their way down the wide corridor of the Sidleburg Town Hall, where at the end of said corridor, Thorin and Frerin waited.
“I’m not nervous,” she replied softly, unable to take her eyes off Thorin. She’d never seen him look more handsome than he did then, dressed in a suit of charcoal silk gabardine, with a nearly-blinding white shirt and a tie swirled purple, pink, and cobalt blue. He’d pulled his hair back and held it with a silver cuff of some sort and when he met her gaze, his slow smile actually made her knees weak.
He grinned. “Motorcycle Girl.”
She returned it. “Mustang Boy.”
He held out his hand and she slipped hers into it, linking their fingers. His tightened about hers, his thumb sweeping lightly against her hand as he said, “You ready?”
“Are you?”
“Mesmel, do you really have to ask?”
They stepped into the mayor’s office, where they are greeted by the receptionist. Thorin explained who they were and why they were there and that yes, they had an appointment and not five minutes later, Leda found herself trying to hold back her smile as she and Thorin stood before Mayor Bradley, who looked from him to her and said, “Welcome, Thorin and Leda, and Zana and Frerin. We are gathered here witness the marriage of Thorin Durin and Leda Andrews. Have you, Thorin, and you, Leda, come here of your free will to take these vows that will bind your lives from this day forward?”
Leda didn't even try to keep from smiling any longer as she and Thorin bobbed their heads and said, “I have,” in unison.
“If there is any reason why these two people should not be married, speak up now or forever hold your peace.” The mayor looked from Zana to Frerin, nodded, and turned his attention to Thorin. “Thorin, if you and Leda would take each other’s hands.”
Leda’s eyes stung with unexpected tears as she turned to Thorin and slipped her hands into his. His eyes softened, his fingers tightening about hers as the mayor then said, "Do you, Thorin, take Leda as your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, forsaking all others, from this day forth?”
Thorin gave her hands a gentle squeeze. “I do.”
“And do you, Leda, take Thorin as your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, forsaking all others, from this day forth?”
She swallowed hard to get the words past the new lump in her throat, and nodded. “I do.”
 “And have you rings?”
Thorin nodded, releasing her hands as Frerin held out the narrow diamond and platinum  band, then dropped it into Thorin’s waiting palm. He cleared his throat as he met Leda’s eyes once more. “It doesn’t seem that long since I was cursing out my car for breaking down on me once again, and you pulled off the road to give me a hand and what I thought was a small guy turned out to be the woman I’d been looking for my entire life. It was supposed to be no strings attached, just fun, and it turned into something that I never expected to find. And what I thought I never wanted became something I couldn't live without. I love you, Leda.” He slipped the ring onto her finger. “And I look so forward to what our future holds, mesmel.”
She pressed her lips together and swallowed hard as his murmured words brought tears to her eyes. Zana held out Thorin’s heavy platinum band. “I debated about whether or not to pull off the road that day, you know. And when I saw you…” She smiled at the sparkle that leapt into Thorin’s pale blue eyes, “well… I wasn’t exactly thinking about marriage and babies and everything, but I knew I wanted you, so that kind of counts, right?”
Everyone laughed and Thorin winked as she went on, I had all of those rules and one by one, we broke them and I’ve never been so glad to do that. And now, here we are, and we’re going to be a family soon, and there is no one else I’d want to share this adventure with. I love you.”
She slid the ring onto Thorin’s thick ring finger, smiling as his fingers closed about hers and the mayor said, “Then, by the power vested in me by the State of New Jersey, I pronounce you, Thorin, and you, Leda, husband and wife. Go on and kiss your bride, Thorin.”
Thorin bent to her, his lips just barely brushing hers, but then he slid his arms about her waist, tugged her as flush against him as he could, bent her back ever so slightly, and angled in for a deep, slow kiss that had the mayor clearing his throat as Frerin said, “Easy, man. There’s plenty of time for that later.”
Thorin broke the kiss with a soft, somewhat breathless laugh, and wrapped his arms about Leda. “You’re mine now, mesmel. Nalish.”
Her cheeks actually hurt from the width of her smile and she looked up at him to whisper, “Nalish, amrâlimê.”
“Should we tell anyone?”
Leda smiled down at the top of Thorin’s head, resting against her breast as he finished his nightly ritual of whispering whatever it was he whispered to his sons. “That we got married?”
“Yeah.” He craned his neck to peer up at her. “Let’s see how long it takes for anyone to notice this.” He held up his hand, shifting it so the platinum band threw off flecks of light.
“Okay. I doubt it’ll take long, but sure.”
“You’re a good sport, you know that.” He pressed a kiss into her stomach, then shifted onto his belly alongside her. “Are you sure you don’t want to go somewhere to celebrate? The pub will be fine in Dwalin and Zane’s hands if we want to take off for the Caribbean or Hawaii or wherever else you might want to go. Where haven’t you been? We’ll go there.”
“Thorin, I’ve never left the States, and I’ve never been further west than Texas.”
“For real?”
She nodded. “We didn’t have a lot of money when I was a kid, and summers were our busy time, so we couldn’t take summer vacations like a lot of people did. My dad was from Texas and his family is still there, so that’s where we went when I was real little. But that’s it.”
“You’ve never been to the islands?”
“Only Staten, Manhattan, and Long Beach Island.”
“That is a crime, mesmel. Pick a place and we’ll go.”
“Thorin,” she rubbed her belly with one hand, “look at me. This is not an island body.”
“Do I need to remind you how hot you are?”
“No. I’m not feeling needy. I just… I’d feel more comfortable staying closer to home now.” She smiled, reaching down to catch one of his long, silver-streaked curls to tuck back behind his ear. “Maybe after the babies are born.”
He crawled up to lean over and kiss her gently. When he drew back, he whispered, “Where do you want to go? Name it and we’ll go there, amrâlimê. Anywhere you want.”
“Careful, Thorin, I might get spoiled.”
A slow smile crept over his face as he shifted to com over her. “Let me spoil you, okay? I can do it and you should be spoiled from time to time.”
She eased her arms about his neck, his lips brushing hers with each word, and instead of responding, she tugged him closer. Their lips met in a soft kiss that quickly deepened, her lips parting at the gentle pressure of his tongue, and when his tongue glided against hers, she smiled at the shiver tracing along her spine.
He slid a hand beneath the hem of her sweater, sweeping up to cover her right breast. She let her fingernails bite into the back of his neck as he eased her breast from her bra and his thumb slowly slid about her nipple.
Leda tried to concentrate on the sensations rippling softly through her, but the fact of the matter was, she was almost six months pregnant with twins and lying on her back for any length of time just wasn’t happening these days. Sliding her hand from the back of his neck, down to his chest, Leda gave a gentle push to ease Thorin onto his back.
He obliged, tightening his free arm about her to draw her across his chest. She melted against him, her tongue tangling with his, her fingers twisting up into his hair. His fingers closed about her breast, kneading it gently, her nipple beading into an even tighter, even achier bud.
She swept her lips over his chin, smiling at the sensual scrape of his beard against her skin, and moved down over the scruff of beard along his neck. He’d shed his jacket and tie when they first got home from town hall, and she flicked open the buttons of his shirt as she moved down.
He shifted to shrug out of the dress shirt, and she gripped the bottom of the plain white tee he wore beneath it, sweeping it up and over his head, and with a smile, she shifted, straddling his hips as she gazed down at him.
If she’d thought he looked handsome at their wedding, that was nothing compared to how he looked now—his dark hair spread out beneath him, his eyes heavy-lidded and almost sapphire with desire, and when she reached down and hook her index finger in his belt, his smile grew sinfully wicked as his hands came to rest on her hips and he murmured, “My wife…”
Those words sent a delicious shiver along her spine. “My husband.”
He winked. “I love you.”
“I love you, too.” She bent to kiss him, the shifted slightly to stretch toward the lower drawer in his bedside table. It opened easily and his smile grew even more seductive when she sat up holding a handful of colored silk.
“You want to play, Mrs. Durin?” he asked, his voice a low, gravelly purr.
“Mrs. Durin…” A soft laugh floated to her lips. “Holy fuck, Thorin, I can’t see me as Mrs. anything. This is too wild.”
His fingers tightened on her thighs and he offered up a seductive smile. “Is that a yes or a no?”
She winked and leaned forward to wrap one of the scarves about his right wrist, knotted it,  then threaded the rest of the silk through the headboard to bind his left wrist as well. As she knotted the silk, she felt the subtle, but growing, pressure, of his cock as he swelled against her. “What are you thinking about?” she asked in a teasing whisper.
“How much I want to fuck you already,” he replied with a wink.
“Is that so?”
He nodded and with a grin, his body tensed slightly, his cock pressing harder into her for a moment. “Always, mesmel. Don’t you know that by now? As long as I can still get it up, I’m going to want to have sex with you.”
She leaned forward and swept a kiss across his lips. “Thorin, I’ve the feeling you’ll be able to get it up until the day you die.”
“I sure as shit hope so.” He winked.
She smiled then and whisked her sweater over her head. Thorin’s eyes darkened and he licked his lips before saying, “Wait… you’re not going to blindfold me?”
“I’m not, no. Why?”
“What are you going to do?”
“You’ll see.”
A soft sound, almost a whimper, but not quite, bubbled to his lips and she held his gaze as she reached back to unhook her bra and let it fall from her. The silk schwiffed softly against the slats as he tried to reach for her, and she couldn't hold back her laugh as she said, “Take care now. You don’t want to wreck the headboard.”
“I want to touch you already.”
“No.” She trailed her fingertips over his chest, traced along the heavy black outline of the tattoo from his chest, over his shoulder, and back again. Slid them lightly through the soft dark hair spread wide, about his nipples, down over his stomach. His eyes closed, but only for a moment as he drew in a deep breath and let it out slowly.
Her fingers swept in lazy circles about his nipples, and she smiled as they beaded and the pulse in his neck beat a little faster. His breathing grew heavier, hitching each time she swept over those beads. She looked up to find him watching her intently, his eyes dark and smoky, a seductive smile lifting his lips.
“Leda…”
“Shhh…” She leaned over to capture his lips in a slow, teasing kiss, smiling as he rocked his hips toward her.
She drew back, then kissed her way over his chin, down his neck once more. Down over his chest. She swirled her tongue about his left nipple, sucked at it gently, nipped it with teasing teeth, smiling as his breath hitched and a husky sigh rose to his lips.
“Amrâlimê,” he whispered, a hint of urgency in his voice. She glanced down. He tented his suit trousers already. And she had only just barely touched him.
She kissed her way down, following the trail of dark hair to the waist of his trousers. His belt buckle rattled softly, his,”Oh, shit, yes…” breathless and light. She unbuckled his belt, popped the fastenings and bent to nuzzle the coarser hair peeping out from the dark gray waistband of his black boxer briefs.
Heat wafted from his skin. Silk squeaked as he tried to move his hands. A plaintive sigh rose to his lips as she brushed a kiss along the top of that waistband. A deeper one floated into the musky air when she sat back and caught the waist of his trousers, of those briefs, and tugged them down just enough to free his cock. It jutted away from him, proud and hard and already bubbled with his arousal, and when she leaned in and lightly traced her tongue from where his shaft met his balls to the underside of the head, he moaned and tensed beneath her.
She did it again. More slowly. She looked up at him, met his gaze, held it as he moaned softly, whispered, “Oh, fuck…” and arched toward her. “Leda…”
“Shhhh…” She flicked the tip of her tongue through that silky fluid, then bent over him.
“Oooh……” His  husky moan reverberated around the room as she took him deep, as she laved him with her tongue in slow swirling strokes, as she flayed him from base to head and back, her lips teasing, her tongue tasting and her fingers moving down over the sensitive skin of his balls, down into the shadows behind them. All the while, she held his smoky stare, watching the pleasure play out across his face. His eyelids fluttered, closed, then as if by will alone, they rose once more.
“Leda…” He thrust into her hard, then drew back with a gritted, “Oh, shit.. baby… I’m sorry…”
She popped him from her mouth, stroking him with her fingers as she whispered, “It’s okay.”
“I want you, baby…”
“Not yet.”
“Leda…” His fingers flexed as he pulled at his bonds again. He writhed beneath her, hips rolling toward her, back bowing, arms tensing. Then, he’d relax, only to do it again with her next caress. “Oh, baby, please…”
“No.”
She bent to him again, her lips tight about him as she sucked him deep once more, as she savored each husky moan and careful thrust. She teased him slowly, using the tension in his body, the movement of his hips, the squeak of silk on wood, the heaviness of his short, hard breaths as her guides. He was close, his hips moving easily, settling into a rhythm of gentle thrusts as he breathed, “Let me touch you… come up here and let me taste you.”
She smiled, pulling him free once more. “Are you sure?”
He nodded, his eyes cobalt with desire and glittering with promise. “I want to make you squirt, mesmel…”
A shiver tickled along her spine as she kissed her way back to his lips and then he winked and whispered, “Untie me, come up here and let me make you come, baby.”
“Are you sure? I like playing with you, you know.”
“I know. And I am positive.” He winked.
She kissed him again, slow and deep, and as she did, she plucked at the knot binding his left wrist. It gave her a bit of a fight, but then she tugged it free and as the silk went slack, he caught her by he hips to guide her up to his mouth.
“Oohh…” she couldn't hold back her low moan of delight at the first sweep of his tongue along her slick, over her clit, her climax took root. He swirled gently about her clit, moved lightly over it. Heat swirled through her, lazy and slow, and built with each pass, with each slip around it. She shivered against him, moving gently with each caress to make it that much sweeter. He was in no hurry, his strokes long and teasing, and when she looked down, she shivered at the heat in those beautiful blue eyes. He watched her intently, his hands to rest on her thighs as he offered up a bit more pressure now, as he swirled a little faster and a lot harder. The wave began its race toward her, his caresses no longer soft and slow but with far more determination now. The tingles raced through her, her heart hammering her lungs, her body humming with delight as blazing white ecstasy spiraled through her. She rolled her hips to meet him, reaching to grip the headboard as well as he caressed her and brought her to the very edge of insanity.
Clutching the headboard with one hand, she reached down with the other to slip her fingers into his hair, to twist and hold on as she moved against him, rocking gently to increase the pleasure swirling through her.
“Thorin…” she breathed as the tingles rippled through her. They started out soft, but quickly swelled, bursting like fireworks to rain over her as he brought her even closer to the edge. Fire filled her, twisting and billowing through her, the knots in her core engulfed in those sweet flames, melting as she moved faster against him. He sped up, licking harder now, feeding the flames to send them sweeping through her.
Her core melted, her body tensing, her release engulfing her in a fiery flash that had her throwing her head back and crying out, “Thorin!” as she exploded against him. Pleasure swept through her, her entire body humming in time to the pulsing between her legs and she melted, throbbing and rocking hard against him. She shuddered, her fingers going white at the knuckle as he refused to relent and brought on a second wave.
“Thorin!” Her body convulsed with a scorching pleasure she’d never felt before, one that was hot and stinging and threatened to devour her as he caught her, held her against him, and her second orgasm was even more powerful. She writhed against him, everything tensing, then exploding as she squirted hard against him. She couldn’t think. Couldn’t breathe. Her mind was blank, her body was on fire, and when he finally relented and released her, she was dizzy and breathless and pleading for mercy as her climax swallowed her whole.
Her need for him enveloped her and instinctively, she shifted back, wrapped her hand about his cock, and guided him to her, sheathing him in a silken glide and then rocked hard as he thrust to meet her. His hands clamped against her hips, his grip tight and furious as he moved her against him and growled, “Oh, baby… yes… fuck me, Leda… oh, baby… fuck me, oh—!”
He exploded with her, his body going rigid, the muscle bulging in his jaw apparent even beneath his thick beard. He slammed into her, his release hot and hard and when his body finished emptying into hers, he sank into the mattress and caught her as she collapsed against him.
“Thorin…” She fought to catch her breath, “oh, shit…. Baby…”
He wrapped his arms about her, pressing a kiss into the top of her head. “Amrâlimê… Mahal, I love you…”
She let her eyes close as exhaustion swept through her, her, “I love you, too, Thorin,” barely a whisper. Her head came to rest against his chest, his heartbeat thundering beneath her ear, his skin warm and his scent heavy with leather and sin. There were no words to describe how much she loved this man who held her as if she was the greatest treasure he’d ever found.
He wrapped his arms about her, cradled her against him, and held her until their breathing returned to normal and he slipped from her warmth. She didn't want to move, quite possibly ever, but unfortunately, the decision was out of her hands.
She eased off him, smiling as he swept a kiss against her lips and whispered, “I’ll be right back.”
Leda stretched out on her side, feeling languid and sleepy and when Thorin came back, he curved up again her, tugging her back again his chest, and gently slipped the hand towel between her thighs before bringing that hand up to curve against her belly. “You okay, mesmel?”
“I’m fine.” She craned her neck to gaze up at him. “We’re fine. Perfect, even. Today was a wonderful day.”
He slid his hand over hers, linking their fingers. “You’re stuck with me now, you know.”
“I know. And I’m strangely okay with that, Mustang Boy.”
“Good.” He shifted slightly and brushed her temple with a kiss. “We did it, Motorcycle Girl. From fuck buddies to married couple.”
“How did this even happen? It was supposed to be fling. No strings attached. Just hot fucking. So,” she peered at him over her shoulder, “how did we end up married?”
“We lost a condom.”
“I knew you only married me because you knocked me up.”
He tightened his arm about her and chuckled softly. “Yeah, you got me. Hey, you were the one who changed her mind about having an abortion.” He kissed the back of her head. “And before you get mad at me, I’m glad you did. I love you.”
His hand slid down over her rounded stomach. “I love you and I love them and everything is just fucking perfect, Leda.”
She smiled into the growing darkness and snuggled closer to him. He was right. Everything was just fucking perfect.

Texas GOP congressman says Mar-a-Lago search reflects ‘long history of loss of credibility’ at DOJ under Democrats : Inside US
Crenshaw told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” that the search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in connection with an investigation over mishandling of classified documents, reflects “a long history of loss of credibility” at the DOJ while conceding that possessing classified documents outside a secure facility was “wrong.” “You’ve seen (Republicans) coalesce around this one because it does…

Here are the US representatives who voted against the US pro-LGBT+ Equality Act
Tumblr media
The US Equality Act is to outlaw discrimination against LGBTQ people in housing, credit, jury service, public accommodations, and federal funding.
The House of Representatives passed the legislation yesterday, but it is unlikely that the Senate will follow up, given the Republican Party's increasing hostility to queer people. They are currently weaponizing transphobia in an attempt at mobilizing their base.
In the Senate the bill will require at least 10 Republicans to vote with all Democrats to advance past the so-called filibuster.
Metro Weekly has listed the representatives that voted against the law in the House.

On Monday, Texas lawmakers gave a first glimpse at what the state’s new congressional districts may look like. The redrawn map was highly anticipated given that Texas gained two additional congressional seats — the most of any state — during the reapportionment process and because Republicans are fully in control of the state’s redistricting process. Yet the new map, if passed, would not substantially alter the topline partisan breakdown of Texas’s seats. It appears that Republican mapmakers prioritized defending the GOP’s current seat advantage over trying to significantly expand it.

Overall, this map creates 24 solid or likely Republican seats, 13 solid or likely Democratic seats and one swing seat in the Rio Grande Valley. (The state’s two new districts will be placed in the Austin and Houston metropolitan areas, as those two areas fueled much of the state’s population growth since 2010.) But this isn’t that much different than what Texas’s map currently looks like: At present, the delegation is made up of 23 Republicans and 13 Democrats.
This is still a very good map for Republicans, though, because mapmakers strengthened the GOP’s advantage in the state by making a number of potentially vulnerable seats held by Republicans much redder, with the newest Houston-area seat also drawn so that it’s favorable to Republican candidates. As the table below shows, the current map has 11 Republican incumbents in seats that were less than 20 points more Republican than the country as a whole, according to FiveThirtyEight’s partisan lean metric.1 But on the new map, all but one Republican-held seat would be R+20 or stronger for the GOP.

*Incumbent is retiring.
Incumbents were placed in the district that contains the largest population share of their old district. They may not necessarily seek reelection in that district.
Partisan lean is the average margin difference between how a state or district votes and how the country votes overall. This version of partisan lean, meant to be used for congressional and gubernatorial elections, is calculated as 50 percent the state or district’s lean relative to the nation in the most recent presidential election, 25 percent its relative lean in the second-most-recent presidential election and 25 percent a custom state-legislative lean.
Given that the GOP controls the redistricting process in Texas, it might seem strange that it wasn’t more aggressive in trying to flip a seat or two held by Democrats. But population growth and demographic shifts in Texas have arguably benefited Democrats so significantly that Republican mapmakers were mostly left playing defense — concerned that some GOP incumbents might soon become vulnerable.
At the top of that list is Rep. Beth Van Duyne, the only Texas Republican defending a seat that President Biden carried in 2020. The new map lines, however, would shift Van Duyne’s district between Dallas and Fort Worth nearly 20 points to the right, meaning that she likely has far more to worry about in a primary than in a general election now after winning by only 1.3 points last November.
Three other Republican incumbents in seats that were less than R+10 also saw their districts move at least 15 points to the right. Rep. Dan Crenshaw ranks among these members, although it’s not clear which seat he may run in: About one-third of his current district is in the new 38th District, but the same is true of the new 2nd District, too, which may also be open, considering Rep. Kevin Brady of the current 8th District is retiring. Either way, Crenshaw — a rising star in the GOP — would be far safer than he is now.
Rep. Tony Gonzales of the 23rd District is the only Republican incumbent who wouldn’t end up in a seat that’s at least R+20, but his perennial battleground district would be reforged into a relative GOP stronghold: His district would be R+13 under the new lines. Like Van Duyne, Gonzalez would breathe far easier under this new map, after he only won by 4 points in 2020.
In order to make many of these seats safer for Republicans, GOP lawmakers moved more Democratic voters into seats that the GOP had previously targeted but now seem to have abandoned. For example, the seat held by Democrat Lizzie Fletcher, who unseated a Republican incumbent in 2018, would go from D+1 to D+25. Meanwhile, the Dallas-area seat represented by Democrat Colin Allred, who similarly ousted a Republican incumbent in 2018, would go from D+2 to D+25. It’s a similar story for almost every other Texas Democrat under this plan. (In some instances, Republican mapmakers also made some super-red seats a slightly paler shade, “unpacking” some GOP voters to boost Republican-held seats. For instance, Rep. Van Taylor’s 3rd District outside of Dallas shifted east to take some red turf from Rep. Pat Fallon’s 4th District.)
One of the biggest takeaways from this map is that almost every seat — Democratic or Republican — would be uncompetitive at its baseline. All but two seats would lean at least 10 points more Democratic or Republican than the country as a whole.
And it’s heavily Hispanic South Texas that holds both of those exceptions. This is a potentially important development as that region might hold opportunities for the GOP since Biden performed worse there than past Democratic presidential candidates. Most notably, the 15th District, represented by Democrat Vicente Gonzalez, would become more Republican-leaning on the new map. He was already facing a difficult reelection bid, as he narrowly won his 2020 race by 3 percentage points after winning reelection by 21 points in 2018. But now under the new map, his district would go from D+2 to evenly split. Meanwhile, Rep. Henry Cuellar’s 28th District would actually become slightly bluer — it only moved from D+4 to D+7 — and could be in play in 2022. (Rep. Filemon Vela’s 34th District doesn’t fall neatly into this category because it went from D+5 to D+17, but it is the other border seat in Texas, and it seems to have gotten a little friendlier toward Democrats, although Vela won’t seek reelection.)
Another notable change under the new map is that it would result in a smaller share of districts with Hispanic majorities despite the addition of two new congressional districts. This could make the map vulnerable to a racial gerrymandering lawsuit considering Texas’s Hispanic population has driven the bulk of Texas’s population growth since 2010. According to census data, the current congressional map included 18 districts with white majorities and nine with Hispanic majorities. But the newly proposed map doesn’t give Hispanic voters any more clout: There are now 19 districts that have white majorities and still nine districts with Hispanic majorities, based on the voting age population.
This is only the first draft of Texas’s new congressional map, so it could still change before it’s passed by the GOP-controlled legislature. The Senate Redistricting Committee is expected to take up the congressional map on Thursday. But remember the GOP ultimately controls the redistricting process in Texas. That said, past congressional maps proposed by Texas lawmakers have been endlessly litigated — and it’s possible that could happen again this time around.
