fic summary: Marc, are you familiar with the term "silver fox"?
A/N: i might have a problem lol
_____________________
“Put. It. Down.”
Marc Spector does not startle easily. So when he nearly falls from his perch beside the bathtub, you’re surprised you have to steady him.
“Jesus, where’s the fire?” Marc picks up the towel and small cardboard box he’d dropped because of your outburst.
Shifting your focus, you zero in on the latter: hair dye, just as you’d suspected.
“So this is what you get up to when I’m away?” You tut, cradling his temples and shaking your head. "What happened to you?"
"What? Nothing, I'm-"
"-I wasn't talking to you," you sigh, resting your forehead against the crown of his head. "How long has he been treating you like this, you poor things?"
“Ha-ha.”
You release his face to study it. "But seriously, how long have you been dying your hair?”
“... For a couple of years. Started to turn gray from stress a while back, and I guess it never stopped.” He fidgets with the loose edge of the container.. “You really never noticed?”
You take the box and set it beside him. “You hid it well.”
You’re not judging him for dying his hair, it’s just… surprising. Marc’s never been one to fuss over his appearance, as far as you could tell. When you first saw his closet, you’d half expected it to be lined with the same outfit ten times, like in a cartoon. Most days, “dressing up” means adding a jacket or blazer.
“Since when do you care? About your hair, I mean.”
He shrugs. “I’m not gettin’ any younger, honey.”
“Neither am I.” You kiss the bridge of his nose. “You got a problem with that?”
“Of course not.”
“Good. Goes double for me, don’t you forget it.” Leaning in, Marc tries for another kiss, but you duck and grab the hair dye before turning away with a mischievous smirk.
“Gotta keep you honest,” you wink and dart out of the room before he can catch you.

"Love?"
"Hm?"
"Might fall out if you keep playing with it like that.”
You’d been standing behind Steven for the past couple of minutes, meaning to check in on his preparations for his morning tour but had gotten distracted. Very distracted.
“Sorry,” you sigh, your fingers leaving the wisps of hair at the nape of his neck and trailing down to his shoulder. “It’s just… hm.”
Your conversation with Marc must have taken root: over the past few weeks, you’ve noticed the hair that had been dangerously close to another round of boxed dye abuse steadily turning lighter. A subtle blend of silver strands mix with the darker curls that frame his face, making his hair shine a bit brighter in the light of the desk lamp.
“It’s like starlight,” you finally state, leaning in to rest your head against his.
Steven sputters and puts his book aside. “Starli- that’s a bit much, yeah?” His brow furrows, but there’s no denying the smile tugging at his lips.
“Not if it’s true,” you contend. You adjust the reading glasses that had slid down his face and tuck a stray curl behind his ear. “It’s a good look on you.”
There’s no denying the heat rising to his cheeks when you talk. “This– you don’t–” Steven caves and sets his book down, hopelessly flustered. “Either go away or get over here. Cheeky.”
He makes room for you to settle into his lap, which you giddily accept. Your hands sink back into his curls and he shivers as you scratch his scalp.
“Did I ever tell you I had a thing for my professor, once upon a time?”
“Oh my days–”
You’re not sure who kisses who, but you’re certainly not complaining. Neither is he.

The time apart has been agony.
You check your phone for the fifth time this evening. They’ve been gone for what feels like months (it’s been weeks) handling some business in California, of all places. Marc said he’d call when they were on their way home, meaning no news is sad news.
You’re pulled from your pity party by a knock on the door. It’s late, and you’ve already signed for your dinner delivery. Slowly, you get up and grab the bat you keep by the entrance (with a sock slipped over the end per Jake’s advice).
The knocking continues, getting more urgent. You take a deep breath and look through the peephole. A large brown eye stares back and you yelp, dropping your bat. The unmistakable boom of Jake’s belly laughter mocks you from behind the door.
“You’re hilarious,” you groan, standing the bat back on its head and unlocking the door.
You’re ready to lay into him when you open the door, but you’re stunned into silence. Jake’s smile is highlighted by silvery stubble, dusted with black. He adjusts his cap as his dark eyebrows raise in mock surprise.
“What, no hello?”
You tear your eyes away from his jaw. “Hm? Oh. Hi.” You open the door wider for him to step in. “Marc said you’d call first.”
“No fun in that, is there? Besides, you looked ready to handle some trouble.” he shrugs off his coat as you lock the door behind him.
“Trouble, yes. Nuisance, debatable.” You sidle up to him and drape your arms around his waist. You place a kiss on his cheek; it’d be impossible for him to not notice how you let yours drag along the rough line of his jaw.
“I missed you too,” he laughs again. “But man, is it warm in here…”
He tosses his cap and it takes everything in him to not lose it when your eyes widen at the sight of his hair, now more gray than black and curls longer than you’ve seen them before. You’re too enraptured to be embarrassed at your obvious loss for words.
“Your hair…” You reach up to touch it, but Jake grabs your wrist.
“Tsk, tsk, you threaten and barely say a word to me, then go straight for the goods without so much as a ‘please’? What happened to decorum, hm?”
“You fucking tease,” you huff. “...please?”
“Well, since you asked nicely–” Jake can barely finish his thought before your lips are on his, your hand tangled in his starlit hair as soon as he lets go.
“I take it we should cancel Marc’s haircut?” he murmurs as you catch your breath.
Your free hand grazes the scruff on his cheek and you grin. “I wouldn’t complain if you did.”

Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8
Part 9a Part 9b Part 10 Part 11 Part 12
Part 13 Part 14 Part 15
Part 16: Conclusion
My Masterlist
Pairing: Established relationship. Marc Spector, Steven Grant, Jake Lockley x gn!reader. Reader is engaged to Marc/Steven. Jake is new. So elements of slow burn/idiots in love. No use of y/n
Summary: Your fiancé is 2 years sober, so what could have possibly upset him enough to challenge that? (It's Khonshu and Jake). A look at how the system learns about continued servitude to Khonshu and a new alter, with you - their fiancée - by their side
Overall fic content/warnings: Angst, drinking, alcoholism/addiction, hangover, cursing, hurt/comfort, references to past abuse, longing, feeling inadequate, some banter/bickering, mentions of food, domestic fluff, slice of life, nightmare, crying, romance, violence, injury, blood, implied sex, some sex but the language remains vague and gn - more erotic than explicit, not beta'd
Immersibility: Reader is gn, is somewhat shorter than Marc/Steven/Jake and able to wear their clothes around the house

You got into the cab quickly, the cold night air raking its nails over your skin. You pulled your coat a little higher and shivered.
The bar crawl hadn’t exactly gone to plan. Two of your friends had had to check out early, and a third had hooked up with someone they’d met while getting a round. You’d decided to call it a night.
“Hi,” you greeted the driver, about to give your address when you pause in surprise. “Steven?”
Jake freezes, watching your reflection in the rear view mirror.
“Steven Grant, you, you live on the floor above me.” You smile. “I didn’t realise you drove a cab?”
He swallows, raising his chin up in a nod, his mind racing. He’d left it far too long to deny it. “I… just, part time.” He spoke quietly, adding a croak to his voice to disguise the difference in accent.
“You okay?”
“Yeah… cold.” He tapped his throat, “so, erm, home?”
You nod, “yeah. Sorry you’re unwell, hope you feel better soon.”
He shrugged. “It’s nothing.”
You nod again, something about the energy in the cab seemed… odd. Different. You were on pretty good terms with Steven since he’d helped you out when you were lugging your shelves up the stairs (they were too wide for the lift.) You chatted when you ran into each other going out or coming back. Somehow you both usually ended up going to the local sainsbury’s at the same time for your weekly shop and had kind of settled into a not exactly planned routine where you would wait for each other and do it together.
Steven talked. A lot. In the best way possible. Excitedly and passionately. Bubbly and enthusiastic. He genuinely listened as well, asking follow up questions and nodding. But even when he was listening, he wasn’t quiet. Always adding in ‘hmms’ and ‘oh right’, and little snippets of commentary that warmed your heart.
Now he was quiet. Pulled in and zipped up.
Maybe it was just the cold making his throat hurt. You’d have to get him something to help, maybe tomorrow you could knock on with some ginger, lemon, and honey tea.
Maybe, maybe, maybe…
You stilt your head to the side as you watch him drive. He takes a turn smoothly, travelling down the late night roads without as much as a pause. Or a word.
It just didn’t make sense.
How unlike Steven he was being. You pause, for a second entertaining the idea that he wasn’t actually him. But that made no sense did it? He’d have to be an identical twin, and besides, he was talking you back to your flat. If he wasn't Steven, how would he know where you lived?
“I didn’t know you could drive?” You say, speaking up a little to try to hide the spike of nervousness that had settled in your gut. You had been so sure that he’d told you he couldn’t… though had that just been an excuse? A reason to tag along with you when you went food shopping? Was his quietness now embarrassment from being caught out?
“Hmm,” he nodded, glancing back at you again in the rear view mirror. “I don’t mention it… much.”
You nod. “Yeah.” You pick at your fingernails as he drums his hands against the steering wheel, waiting for the light to change.
The silence stretches out, almost blanketing the low grumble of the engine. It’s sickening. Nerve wrecking.
“How’s work?” You blurt out, and then quickly clarify. “Both I mean, how’s driving going today and how’s the museum?” He glances back at you again, the action is starting to remind you of a priest in a confessional.
“It’s all… normal.”
“Normal?”
“Fine. Normal.”
You don’t speak again until he pulls up by the block of flats, putting on the handbrake and getting into neutral. He puts his hands on his lap, folded neatly with his palms facing upwards.
“How much do I owe you?” You ask.
“Nothing.”
“What?”
“Nothing. It’s on me.”
“Stev-”
He turns quickly, flicking off his seatbelt in a practised move so that he can twist his body fully around to face you.
For a moment you think he’s going to say something, reveal some grand secret but instead he pauses before giving you a very weak smile.
“It’s on me.” His voice is quiet, barely there at all. And, for the briefest second you could have sworn that his accent was different.
“Thank you.”
He shrugs politely, dismissing it as if it was nothing.
Before he can turn away you reach out for his shoulder, the action instinctive and leaving you lost for a reason why you did it.
He glances at your hand for a second before looking back to your face.
You lean forward. “Thank you.” You repeat softly, and slowly kiss his left cheek, giving him plenty of time to pull away and rebuff you if he wanted to.
Instead he leans slightly into the touch, swallowing and turning his head towards you. His nose brushes against yours and you think he’s going to turn back to facing the wheel, but instead he presses his lips to yours hesitantly.
You squeeze his arm, surprised but responsive as you kiss him back.
He kisses you slowly, but intentionally. Swiping the tip of his tongue along your bottom lip before opening your mouth with his own and licking inside. He groans, low in his chest as the kiss becomes hungrier, boarding on desperation as he presses as close to you as he physically can in his position.
When suddenly he pulls back, blinking heavily. A mumbled, ‘sorry’, just escaping his lips.
“It’s okay.” Your voice is quiet too, your mind only just catching up with what happened.
He turns back, putting his seatbelt on with a click and staring straight ahead. “Have a good night.”
“I, erm, I’ll see you later.” You mutter as you get out, feeling almost shaky from what just happened. Your thoughts reeling.
You get up to your flat in a daze. You’d kissed him, well, he’d kissed you. Did that mean anything? Had you done something to chase him off?
You change into your pyjamas and brush your teeth, staring at your reflection in the bathroom mirror.
There’s a soft knock at your front door and you freeze. Wait.
Maybe it’s a neighbor's door. Maybe it’s noise from another flat.
There’s a knock again, still soft and your phone buzzes. A message from Steven, ‘can we talk?’
Fuck.
You head to the door, checking the peep hole and confirming that yes, it is Steven outside your door. You unlock and open it quickly.
“Steven, I-”
You don’t get a chance to finish your sentence before he moves forward quickly and kisses you deeply. His hands settle on your hip, the back of your neck as he walks you further inside and kicks the door shut with the heel of his foot.

How They Cuddle
A/n: Started this while I was stuck in traffic with a tornado warning going on. Later found out 4 touched down around me so basically God said I couldn't die until I posted this
Warnings: none, fluff, angst, semi serious? Talks of death, read with that in mind on Jake's part
Gn! Reader Masterlist
Steven
Tummy hugger
Doesn't matter the size, how hot it is inside, he will latch onto your waist and rest his head on your tummy
Prefers a bare tummy so he can feel your soft skin, but he's happy as long as he gets to hold you
And if you pet his head or play with his hair too? He's a goner
Those sleeping problems he has from time to time? Gone
Those night terrors that keep him up for hours? A thing of the past
He sleeps best when it's with you and when it's on your perfect, soft, warm tummy? He sleeps like a baby
There are, of course, nights where he's had a really bad day and he needs a bit more from you
Those are the nights where he'll ask you to lay on him
He wants to be surrounded by the thing he loves the most
And if you even try to say 'oh, I'll crush you!' he will forcibly pull you on top of him
"Yea right, you forget I was an avatar of Khonshu, love. I'm buff as fuck." He would mumble while burying his head in your hair or shoulder
It's not necessarily a lie, but it gets you to laugh
Pressure therapy is strong with this one
He has so many weighted blankets, it's ridiculous
And usually he doesn't use them now that he has you, but when there are days when you're not home or don't feel like cuddling, Steven will break out his massive pile of weighted blankets
It's honestly really cute seeing Steven all bundled up and only his head poking out of a mountain of blankets
Marc
Lays directly on top of you
Lowkey scared of crushing you so it takes a while for him to admit how he'd prefer to cuddle, but it happens eventually
Marc wants to protect you, you're the love of his life and he couldn't take it if he lost you
So he lays on you to be your shield
If anyone breaks into the apartment, which they probably wouldn't even make it past the front door before Marc absolutely destroys them, but if they do he's the first one they'll attack
And as long as you're safe, he's happy
It's a deeper reason than the others, but it's true
If he's had a bad day, it'll be different
He'll curl up into you, looking so small and vulnerable
He'll bury his face in your chest and hold onto you like you're his life line
Which you are
If you play with his hair and rub his back, maybe even hum to him, he'll pass out in no time
He feels safe in your arms and while he's not used to feeling so vulnerable, he feels like he can be with you
On the other hand, there are very rare nights where Marc will ask you to suffocate him
Not really, of course
He just needs the pressure of you laying on top of him to chase away his dark thoughts
Works every time
Not during nightmares though
Never try that during or after a nightmare
Marc will panic so hard, he might accidentally hurt you and he would rather die than do that to you
Jake
Jake is a little different than Steven and Marc
He doesn't have a preference of cuddles, as long as he can feel your skin somewhere on him, he's ok
It's not in a weird way though
If he can feel your skin, he can feel how warm you are and if he can feel how warm you are, he knows you're not dead
It's morbid, but he's seen so much and caused so much death so he's trying to reassure himself that you're not dead too
He'll have his hands under your shirt and resting on your hips, or hike your leg over his hip to feel your thighs, or sleep with his cheek pressed against your tummy
Anywhere is fair game to him as long as you're comfortable
But then there are nights where he would rather die than feel your skin
It's usually nights where he's had to kill quite a few people and while he usually handles death quite well, he has you now
He's learned to be something other than a tool for Khonshu and a shield for Marc and Steven
Those nights, he'll lay next to you and watch you breathe
The only part of you he touches is your wrist to feel your heart beat
Similar to Steven, he will ask you to occasionally lay on him, just so he can feel you pressed up against him
Not in a sexual way, though he's not ashamed to admit he would enjoy that, just in a way so he can feel a bit more of you than he normal would
And honestly, when as asks you to lay on him, it leads to some kind of make out session

Yandere!Jake Lockley x GN!reader
Join Dark!Romana's tag list
Dark!Romana's Masterlist
Summary: After months living in a room with only Jake, Steven and Marc as company, you can't say you aren't content most of the time. Sometimes, however you make a little trouble and Jake reminds you that he is the only one who can keep you safe.
CONTENT WARNINGS: Yandere!Jake. Reader is kidnapped. Implied/referenced rape (reader 'never said no' according to jake, but rather just gave in after an unclosed amount of time bc they were lonely/manipulated. The circumstances of this are v vague but remember, if you feel like you have to, its not consent.) Jake Lockley typical violence. Referenced past abuse.
A/N: I began writing this fem reader, as most of my fics are since I am fem, but I realized there was no reason this couldn't be gender neutral. So, that's what it is. If I missed changing anything that makes it seem like reader is fem presenting, lmk and I'll edit it but I looked through this several times.
*************************
You couldn’t say the bed was uncomfortable. You couldn’t say the room was bland or boring. You couldn’t say you had nothing to do. It was a great room, actually. If you were being honest, you loved it here…
The problem was you couldn’t leave. When the man had taken you, it took a while to figure out what was going on with him; it was Steven that explained it, the DID. Honestly, maybe the mental disorder should have scared you more, but you were well versed in different disorders so it wasn’t something that phased you, rather than just made it a challenge to navigate your situation. You were given book after book after book to read, to entertain you when outside of Marc Steven and Jake’s company; it didn't matter how many you went through, you just had them. If you were feeling brave, you made requests but honestly after the boredom of the first month while you were still fighting it, you took what you could get. You were even given a laptop, although it couldn’t possibly connect to the internet, but you were writing. They didn’t even make you show them what you wrote, but Steven would often sit on the bed while you read to him your poems or short stories. You were saving your novel for when it’s finished.
Some days were better than others.
Some days you and Steven talked for hours.
Some days you and Marc marathonned Star Wars.
Some days Jake held you so warm and so tightly you forgot they kidnapped you.
Today was not one of those days.
You were angry, you were upset, you missed your friends and you missed the outside, you wanted fresh air and you didn’t want to spread your legs for a man that took you away from everything you knew and wanted.
“Why are you giving me so much fucking attitude today?!” Jake shouts at you, pacing the floor of your room so aggressively he had your throw rug all twisted up.
You were sat up on your bed, shouting back. “You KIDNAPPED ME, you HURT ME you RAPE ME-”
“CALLATE!” He screamed, storming towards you so fast you flinch and scramble back to the wall. “You know I don’t like when you call it that!”
A sardonic laugh. “What? Rape?”
“I never forced you! I never held you down! I never got you too drunk or high to resist-”
“YOU TOOK ME AWAY FROM EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE, WHAT OTHER OPTION DID I HAVE!”
His face is suddenly right up to yours, so close your nose brushed his briefly as he speaks in a dark, quiet voice. “I never heard you say no, mi vida”
He was right. You hadn’t. But they had worn you down, twisted your mind so much that eventually you just began… giving in.
He continued talking, his voice rumbling with the low octive “I only hurt you in the beginning, carino. Just until you began to listen. You needed it, didn’t you? Someone to take you away from everything, take care of you, feed you. Baby, we adore you, and it hurts us when you fight like this.”
Your eyes wheeled up with tears at his words. It’s true, you had become so dependent on them… you weren’t sure you could even shower alone anymore. You’d be lucky if you remembered how to toast bread. Sickeningly, a part of you liked it. You liked he cared for, pampered, adored, and fuck, worshiped. You had time to write, time to listen to music and podcasts. If you need to look up something for a book or research something from a podcast that interested you, you just asked, and the boys would monitor you. You didn’t really need anything except some goddamn freedom. What was that they said in The Handmaid’s Tale? There’s freedom too, and freedom from… They offered you freedom from, and made that clear.
“The world is dangerous, precioso. You know that as well as I do… perhaps better.” With a cocked eyebrow, Jake referenced your past trauma’s, forcing the tears to spill over. “You are too precious, too perfect to be put at risk again. Your family didn’t protect you, but I will.”
Still, you are ever-defiant, shaking your head. “N-no… you aren’t protecting me. You’re hurting me…” but even then, you couldn’t manage much conviction. You hadn’t so much as burned your tongue since Steven, Marc, and Jake took you, and he was right… the rest was just discipline.
Jake frowned, but simple stood up. He went over to your desk, taking out a Glee notepad he’d found on ebay for you and a pen, tossing them in your direction.
“Write them down, all the names.”
You look at him confused. “W-what names?”
He stalked forward, once again close to you.
“Give me the full name of anyone who has ever hurt you or touched you without your consent.” His gaze was focused, intense. You knew he was on a mission when he looked at you like that.
“I don’t… I don’t know all their full names…”
“If you have workplace addresses, any identifying information that’s helpful. I promise you, I’ll take whatever you give me and I will find them. Every single person who has ever caused you pain.”
“What are you going to do?” You didn’t really need to ask, but you did anyway.
“You and I both know. Now write.”
The list was long, longer than any one person’s list should be. A few, you only remembered their first name so you wrote down what you knew… Jake had his ways. Still, you had some cheek in you, and when Jake looked at the paper, he frowned.
“What the fuck is this.” He smacked the paper with his hand. After the list of people who had violated or harmed you before you came here, were three names Jake recognized right away.
Jake Lockley
Steven Grant
Marc Spector
“You told me to write the names of anyone who hurt me or touched me without-” SMACK! Your head flung to the side from the backhand, and when your turned back to face him, his hand gripped your throat.
“You think this is funny, carino?” His face pressed against yours. “How do you think Marc would feel if he saw his name on that list?”
Your lip quivered at that… you didn’t want Marc to see. Marc was special to you, and Jake knew it; he often exploited your relationship with his alter for his own benefit.
“I’m sorry” You cried, apologetic.
His grip on you loosened, and he looked back at you with sympathetic eyes. Letting go, he tore the bottom three names off the paper and tucked the offenders into his pocket. “I know you are, amor. Now, you sit here pretty, and don’t worry about a damn thing for the rest of your life, si?”
It took about a month. He never left you for more than one day at a time, but he always made sure you had food and were provided for, even giving you access to the bathroom. You didn’t dare even look for an exit; they wouldn’t have left anything vulnerable, and you were on camera, you knew. It would just cause trouble.
It was after one of those such nights where you were alone that he came back to you, still somehow looking put together after being out all night. You knew he hadn’t slept. You awake to his footsteps, heavy boots on your polished hard wood floor. As you stir, a piece of paper is placed on your pillow.
Sitting up you rub your eyes. “Jake, what’s- ” But you are stopped in the middle of your sentence. Every single name is crossed out on the list you had given him. “Does… does what mean they are dead?”
He steps forward, slipping to stand between your knees and bedding over, placing his hands on your thighs. His face was intensely close to yours, dark eyes piercing yours. You lean forward, accepting him in, existing in his precise. Jake did this for you. You were safe here, none of these people could hurt you… but because they had, whether months ago or decades, it didn’t matter. They were dead because they had crossed you, because they had dared to touch what Jake Lockley laid claim to. Jake, Marc and Steven… they were where you belonged.
 “Jake Lockley finishes the job.”

"Sorry I'm late!" You shout, bursting into the flat, kicking off your shoes. "I swear give me five minutes and I'll be ready!"
You rush past Marc as you run to the bedroom, grabbing your outfit from your bag, already knowing that the chances of making your table reservation are slim given the traffic in London on a Friday night.
As you throw it down on the bed something makes you pause. It takes a moment for your brain to catch up and when it does you groan.
"You cooked?" You whine as you inhale the delicious smell of food from the kitchen. "Marc, you didn't have to cook. I know I'm a bit late but we can still go out."
Turning to complain at him you pause, taking in the man standing in the sitting room, surrounded by Stevens books, wearing Marc's t-shirt and pants, looking at you with a smug smile and raised eyebrows. The man who wears your boyfriend's face, but isn't him.
The realisation sinks in quickly of who you are looking at causing your heart to thunder in your chest and your mouth go dry.
"Jake?
He nods in confirmation taking a step towards you, one you mirror by stepping back.
Marc has told you very little of Jake, only that he isn't sure he's ready for you both to meet, still getting to grips with knowing his third alter himself.
You assumed Jake already knew of your existence, and that he knew that you knew of his, but you found with the boys it was easier to let them take things at their own pace no matter how curious you were about meeting their third, their protector.
Suddenly faced with Jake you aren't sure what to do. Physically he still looks like Steven, like Marc, but there's something in his eyes, in the way he holds himself, that is nothing like either of them.
Steven always makes himself small, Marc holds too much tension, like he carries the weight of the word, but Jake, Jake is a statue. Jake is unreadable, at least for now.
"It's nice to finally meet. The others have a lot to say about you," he smiles easily, as though you already know each other.
"All good I hope?" You give an awkward laugh, unsure how to handle the situation. "Is um, are Marc and Steven okay?"
The little you knew about Jake was mostly that he fronted when the boys needed him, when it was dangerous, or too much for either of them to cope. When you'd left the flat for work both of them seemed as happy as usual. You'd left Steven pondering over books, and Marc had called you at lunch to make sure you took a break and had something to eat. Nothing had seemed particularly out of the ordinary, but then nothing in your life was ordinary anymore.
"They are fine. I just decided it was time we meet." Jake shrugs like it's nothing, but you notice an all too familiar twitch of his fingers, one that sets you on edge. Steven used to do the same thing when he was fronting and Marc wanted in, generally when you and Steven were arguing and Marc was itching for control to stop you both.
"So Marc agreed for us to meet? Because that feels like something he might have mentioned." You keep your tone light but you tuck your hands behind your back, curling them into fists the way Marc has taught you.
While you have no reason to fear his alter, the fact this seems suspicious makes you uneasy, especially given everything Steven and Marc have told you about Konshu's hold on Jake. Jake himself may not scare you, but Konshu did.
"We had a long talk about it today." Jake doesn't even miss a beat. In fact his lips twitch upwards as he glances down at your arms, hiding your balled fists behind you.
"I didn't think Marc would give up date night so willingly."
Jake winces, and that tells you all you need to know. Marc knows, but he doesn't have control to stop it. It makes anger spark in your chest on his behalf.
"Can I speak to Marc?"
Jake sighs and opens his mouth, but you cut him off before he has a chance to speak.
"Let me speak to Marc," you repeat, more firmly this time, trying to sound more confident than you really feel. "Or I will leave until you let them front."
A tense silence follows as you do your best to stare him down. Jake gives an amused chuckle at your stubbornness.
"I see why they like you. Alright, speak with him. We can continue this afterwards."
Jake's eyes roll and he lets out a choked noise before Marc stares at you, immediately jumping into an apology as if it's his fault.
"Fuck, I'm sorry, baby! Jake just took me by surprise before I had a chance to stop him."
"Took me by surprise too," you let out a soft laugh, that comes out more nervous than you intended, betraying your wildly beating heart. "You okay?"
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine. Are you okay?" He takes a few steps towards you, and this time instead of stepping back you walk forwards to meet him, allowing him to pull you into a tight hug.
"Yeah just a bit shocked that's all. I thought the days of me dropping in, not sure who I'd find, were gone. Little bit of excitement to my boring day though," you grin, trying to make him feel better as Marc regards you with worry.
"Dinner looks nice," you continue with a smile, gesturing to the beautifully laid out table, trying to distract him.
"I didn't… Jake cooked it." He grits out, clearly annoyed by the situation.
"Oh."
"I've got control of him now. It won't happen again. We can still go out if you feel up to it?" Marc offers.
You hesitate to answer, your mind whirring with questions. Why has Jake decided to intervene now? Was something wrong? Was it just pure chance? Why had he cooked dinner? Did he know it's your favourite meal or had that been a coincidence? Have you met before without knowing?
"Baby?" Marc prompts when you don't answer.
If he says no you won't ask again until he's ready, but now you're here, you have to ask the question. Maybe a little push is what they need.
"Marc," you start softly, taking his hands in yours, "I know you have reservations about Jake but he is a part of you, and I think it's important I get to know him too. I mean after all he has to live here and if I keep dropping in we should know each other."
"Yeah but not like this! Not just out of nowhere before we've even had a chance to talk about it." Marc scowls, his whole body stiff, as though preparing for a fight. You wonder if Jake is fighting to take over again.
"Nothing happens the right way with you anyway. I mean look at us, our relationship has been upside down, sideways and shaken," you laugh affectionately, and though Marc continues to frown his expression softens just a little. "Jake said you talked about it today?"
"Yes. But we didn't agree to anything. And you didn't agree to anything, so you don't have to let him push you into this." Marc cups your face gently, his eyes flicking between yours as he tries to get a read on you, on where your head's at.
"I know. Nobody's forcing me. I just…want to know all of you. You know how badly it turned out when you wouldn't speak to me." You regret the words instantly as Marc drops his eyes, still ashamed of his behaviour during the first few months of your relationship with Steven. You take his hands from your face, holding them and squeezing in a gentle reminder that you've already forgiven all of that.
"But look at us now. The three of us are closer than ever. Jake is the last puzzle piece here. Let me just say hello so he knows I'm not some crazy psycho who's going to hurt you. Plus I won't panic if he fronts when I'm around again. He cooked my favourite food." You shrug, trying to lighten the mood a little and still distracted by the mouth watering smell. Marc ignores your feeble attempt at making jokes.
"Only because the perverted bastards been watching the time you spend with us! I didn't tell him that!" He bursts out, glaring at the table as though it somehow personally offended him.
Your stomach turns uncomfortably at the thought of the intrusion. Marc and Steven had an agreement that when it came to you, for the most part, they would stay out of each other's relationships. That way you knew the time you spent with each of them was solely for that person. But the fact Jake knew things about you, makes you uneasy. Did Marc know the extent that his alter had been watching you? What exactly had he seen?
"Okay, that's… yeah…. weird." You wrap your arms around your waist, shielding yourself from the moment as your mind whirs with questions and concerns.
"You don't have to agree to this, love." You're drawn out of your unsavoury thoughts by Steven’s soft British accent. "Marc's having a word now. Well, several in fact."
"I know but… honestly Steven, I think it's time. And I have questions I want answers to." You glance at the food on the table with a frown.
"I don't know if I'll be able to take control back," Marc warns, clearly feeling he needs to step back in.
You give him a reassuring smile, hoping it comes off as confident. "I don't think Jake is going to hurt me. Hurting me would hurt you both and isn't he supposed to stop that?"
"It's not that. I'm just worried what he will say to you."
"Marc," you start seriously before breaking into a grin, "I very much doubt Jake finally confirming you actually do love Beauty and the Beast, is going to be that bad."
Marc doesn't take the bait, still too wound up in his head, and no doubt listening to the voices of his alters.
"It's not that. I just….I've done some bad things." And there it was. Marc was worried somehow Jake would reveal something he didn't want you to know. Something about the past he keeps carefully locked away and hidden.
You take Marc's hands in yours, squeezing tightly.
"I'm so proud of you. You didn't deny loving the film!" You coo, much to Marc's annoyance as he pulls a face at you, clearly unimpressed.
"Whatever happened in the past, whatever you or Jake or Steven did, it doesn't matter. I know you Marc Spector, and you are a good man. You all are. Now let's get this over with okay?"
Marc looks at you pleadingly, but you stand firm. This has to happen sometime, and while it's out of the blue, so had your meeting been with Marc the first time when you thought you were meeting Steven.
"He says one word out of line," Marc growls, leaving the threat unsaid.
"One word," you agree with a nod.
"And he only gets to eat dinner with you. This is purely an introduction."
You nod again, unsure of anything else Marc might be worried Jake would ask you to do.
"And I get an additional date night with you!"
You try and bite back your laugh but you can't help grinning at him. You could tease him later on his little bout of adorable jealousy. If you were honest, you would miss the time with him too.
"And just to remind you, I hate that film. And if you and Steven watch it one more time!" Laughing, you kiss him softly. Marc's expression relaxes in an instant. "You're sure?"
You step back, letting go of his hands and giving him a nod. You were as ready as you were ever going to be.
"I'm sure."
"We'll be right here if you need us, love. Just say the word," Steven assures you, before he steps back.
Watching the transition is hard. It's not like Marc and Steven, whose switch between them is so smooth it's hard to notice. It's not quite like the way Steven had described his blackouts either, back in the days before he knew Marc. But it's clearly still a difficult transition until Jake slips into place.
"Shall we?" Jake smiles, gesturing to the table, as though he'd never been gone. You suspect he's been listening the whole time.
~
So far you are yet to fully understand Marc’s hesitation at meeting his alter. You and Jake have made small talk and introductions while you eat. Jake had been perfectly friendly, and if you're honest, even a little funny. Although you were trying to make it hard for him, given the way he had jumped in, you still found yourself enjoying his company, at least a little.
"Why the introduction now?" You ask, sipping your drink. It's your favourite and you could assume that Jake had purely got that by coincidence, since Steven always made sure he had some in the cupboards, but combined with the food you suspect not.
"They are going to ask you to move in."
You choke on your food in surprise, snapping your head up to look at Jake, waiting for him to laugh. Only he doesn't. He stares seriously at you.
"Steven decided a while ago but Marc is scared to ask. He feels you might say no."
You swallow, trying to dampen the excited butterflies that erupt in your belly.
"I don't know how he got that impression?"
Jake shrugs, "you know Marc, he has a hard time believing people do actually like him."
You do know that. If you've learnt anything about Marc over your relationship, you've learnt that is a key component. Marc always thought people preferred Steven, and he had a hard time believing anything that suggested otherwise.
"Well, if they are listening," Jake's quirk of his lips let's you know they are, "then I wouldn't say no. I would love to live here, with them. I mean I practically do anyway!"
Steven had already given you a key to the flat, and other than the evenings they were gone, you spent basically every night here.
"That's another reason it was important for us to meet. You never know when we might run into each other." Jake smiles, but his words bring up a remembrance of your concerns. Have you met before?
"Well really you would think we had met already, given you know my favourite food and my favourite drink, probably a lot more than that too. Should I ask if you know what colour underwear I put on today?" The words have a clear bite to them and to your surprise, Jake splutters on his drink, a look of shock widening his eyes.
"I would never!"
You scoff disbelievingly, gesturing to the table.
"Oh come on Jake! Let's at least be honest with each other."
"I have limits," Jake insists, wiping his mouth. "I would never invade yours, or their, privacy that way."
You find that hard to believe.
"Except you already did," you point out.
Jake sighs, defeated.
"Not out of malice or perversion. The last time Marc let someone this close to him it didn't end well, and it took some recovery time. I had to be sure he was okay, and that you could handle it…us."
Layla. Marc has spoken about his ex wife a handful of times. You knew he left, and when they found each other again in the end they decided to part as friends. To your knowledge she was off travelling Egypt, working on archeological sites. Whatever the reasons they didn't work out, Marc had never mentioned, and you never asked. You felt it wasn't your place or your business. Another past item Marc kept locked away.
But it still doesn't make sense. You'd been dating Steven a long time, and Marc a while now too. Why had it taken all this time for Jake to decide to vet you?
"Well, you took your time," you comment, watching his expression.
Jake lets out a soft laugh with a nod.
"Not out of choice, Cariño. Marc keeps you well guarded."
That is easy to believe, and you understood as much from the handful of times the boys have mentioned their other alter. Jake was their protector, and he would do what needed to be done in order to protect them. You got the feeling Marc was scared that Jake wouldn't like you, and subsequently remove you from their lives. You hope you've at least made a good enough impression that that wouldn't happen.
"You swear you've never watched us…" you gesture with your hands, heat prickling the back of your neck, unable to say the words.
"Never," Jake confirms passionately, before he grins, raising an eyebrow, "unless you wanted me to? I'd be more than happy to oblige any desire you have."
It takes all your willpower and sense of decorum not to throw your drink in his face, and you imagine Marc is seething. Judging by the way Jake swallows hard, his fingers gripping the edge of the table, he's fighting Marc for control.
"Let me guess, the boys not take that well?" You give him a smug smile and sip your drink, pleased just a little at their protectiveness of you. Jake holds up his hands in surrender with a nod.
"I seem to remember you allowing Marc to speak to you in the same way."
You open your mouth to protest before closing it again, knowing Jake is absolutely right. When you first started dating Steven, Marc would often make little remarks in much the same way to wind you up, until he realised he had fallen for you, then he'd stopped entirely until the night it all came tumbling out.
"Marc helped me and Steven come together. He gets a free pass on that time in our lives."
"You are good for them, for us," Jake smiles, a soft warm genuine smile, perhaps the first true warmth he's given you all evening. "When you found us everyone was unhappy. We were in a dark place, Marc especially. When we-"
"If it's not something I don't already know, then I don't want to know. Marc doesn't want me involved in his past and I'd like to respect that. Please," you interrupt.
Jake tilts his head, like a dog who doesn't understand. "You're not even a little curious?"
You shake your head. Curious would be an understatement but you had meant what you had said to Marc. The past was the past, and it didn't matter now.
"It doesn't matter. What matters is now and if Marc or Steven wants me to know something, they will tell me."
Jake smiles and leans back in his chair, regarding you proudly. You get the feeling you just passed another kind of test.
It isn't the last of the evening either. Now and again Jake says something, asks something, that feels a little off, leading you somewhere, pushing you, testing you. It makes for an exhausting dinner, and nothing like the relaxing meal you had planned to have with Marc. You do your best to be honest, truthful, and loyal.
All you can do is hope you pass the exam.
~
When the food is finished you help Jake clear away the plates, feeling at least a little accomplished that their alter seems to tolerate you, if not like you a little.
"Does this mean I'll see you more often now?"
"Why, do you want to?" Jake grins. "Sabía que no eras inmune a mis encantos "
Laughing you shake your head, "I never said that. It's just I don't want you to feel like you can't front with me around. I know Marc doesn't like it, but I can talk to him. If we are going to live here then we should do it as a family."
"I appreciate that," he pauses for a moment before he adds "and your trust. You didn't have to meet me tonight but you did."
You smile, "I've learnt that sometimes with those two, it's better just to get the truth out of the way."
Jake smiles, regarding you for a long moment with an expression you can't quite place. It leaves you with a warm feeling in your chest.
"I should go," he says finally, "Thank you for having dinner with me. If you ever change your mind about wanting an audience-"
"I won't." You reply quickly, cutting him off. Jake raises an eyebrow before he lets out a soft laugh.
"Never say never cariño. I look forward to changing your mind." He takes your hand and leaning down, brushes his lips against your knuckles.
In the blink of an eye Jake is gone, and Marc’s furious frown falls into place, his fingers squeezing yours.
"I'm going to murder that bastard! If he thinks he can flirt with you-" Marc cuts out as you laugh, drawing him into your arms to hug him tightly.
"You have nothing to worry about, Spector. I only have eyes for two men in my life." He still frowns unhappily but you persevere, pressing a soft kiss to his lips. "Don't let it get to you. There's still a whole lot of date night left you know? I can think of something I want for supper."
Marc's expression changes in an instant, his fingers gripping your hips a little harder.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah," you smile, pulling his mouth to yours for a much more insistent kiss.
You try not to wonder if Jake is watching.

empanadas
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You take Jake out on a date.
Warnings: Jake is paranoid but not his fault, he deserves all the love. He's also hinted to be a little neglectful of himself. Not proofread. Word count: 1,599 GN!Reader, no use of Y/N.
Recently went to Freight Island and had some amazing empanadas and so created this mostly self indulgent fic.
Tumblr media
Jake wasn’t a fan of loud and open spaces.
He preferred the comfort of the flat, where the smells and sounds were familiar, where there was no-one but him and you (and Steven and Marc, he supposed). Now, with the loud music and chatter from other diners, he felt on high alert. He needed to know every exit and know exactly where everyone was and what they were doing. It was drilled into him, and he could feel every nerve ending tingling with being on high alert.
You could see how tense he was. He had barely looked at you since you sat down. Maybe this was a bad idea. You wanted to surprise him with a date night, since you hadn’t seen him for a while. You’d found a newly opened food market, where each kitchen was made from old shipping containers, each a different cuisine. A few of your friends and colleagues had already been and had gushed about the place to you, telling you all about the atmosphere and the music, and how much of a good time they had. You had been itching to go for a while until the opportunity arrived.
You had a look at the menus and the food all sounded delicious, and you were excited to bring Jake to try Mia’s Arepas, the South American kitchen. He’d mentioned a few times how he hadn’t managed to find a good empanada place since settling in London, and when you found that there was a South American themed menu you immediately thought of Jake and booked a table.
But now you weren’t so sure you should have come. You should have probably picked a different place to go to with Jake. Maybe a smaller, quieter bistro. But then Jake would have missed out on the empanadas, and your attempts to make them in the past had landed like a lead balloon, and you just wanted him to be happy. Your heart shattered at the look on his face, his eyes darting around at – what it seemed like – each individual in the room before they landed on you.
You lightly sighed. “We can go home, if you want.”
He blinked at you, looking at you as if surprised you wanted to leave. “What?”
“I can tell you’re uncomfortable, so we can forget this and go home.”
Jake opened his mouth, but nothing came out. His brow lightly furrowed as he looked at you. You both sat in silence for a minute, Jake contemplating what to do next and you waiting for his answer. You wouldn’t be upset if he wanted to leave, you did kind of throw this on him when he got home from driving all day. He looked exhausted and you had demanded he get changed so you could take him out. You should have been better; you should have been more considerate.
But you were just excited to spend time with him.
“I’m happy to be here, mi amor,” Jake finally answered.
His stiff posture said otherwise.
You sighed before reaching across the table, your palms facing up, waiting for him to take your hands. He did, after some hesitation, and you immediately held his hands, your thumbs stroking over the warmth of his skin, hovering over an old scar every now and then. You both sat there, in silence, as your thumbs continued back and forth until you felt him relax just a tad.
You bit your lip nervously at his silence. “I don’t want you to feel obligated to be here. I’ll be happy just to be with you. It doesn’t matter where we are.”
Jake’s shoulders sagged a little as he breathed a small sigh. “I…we can stay. I’m okay.”
You raised an eyebrow at him, giving him a pointed look, asking him a silent question. Jake nodded before sitting back, his hands leaving yours, trying to look laid back, but you could still see his eyes darting around the room. You would give him some credit; if he says he can handle it, then you would let him handle it. But you were okay to leave when he was.
You pull up the menus on your phone, leaning forward towards him as you rest your elbows on the table. You scroll through the menus as you talk him through them. The website explained that you had to order through the online app (something you’d already downloaded in preparation for tonight), so you showed Jake the food options. “Let me know what you want, love, and I can order it.”
Jake blushed at the nickname, something you tried to hide your grin at. Jake took your phone from you and scrolled through the app, looking at the foods available. You watched him, a dreamy look on your face. He was so beautiful; his beautiful, warm brown eyes, and his curls, loose for once instead of slicked back and away like Marc liked to wear them. Steven and Jake had overruled Marc recently in trying to change up their looks. Jake wanted facial hair, Marc wanted no change, and Steven absolutely put his foot down on they compromised on growing their hair out a bit.
“They have empanadas here?”
You blink at Jake, his voice shocking you out of your reverie. He smirked at you, having caught you blatantly ogling him. Your cheeks warmed as you nodded at him. “Yeah, it was mostly the reason I wanted to bring you here.”
“Haven’t found any good empanadas in London.”
“You haven’t tried these ones yet.” Jake grinned before passing your phone back to you. You smile at him as you look down at the menu. “I’ll just order some of these then.”
“Get a beef one and a cheese one. With extra hot sauce on the side. Please.”
You snort at the quick manners at the end, adding the food to the basket. “Anything else?”
“I’ll have an arepa too. Surprise me.”
You nod before adding on a chicken arepa with avocado and mayo. You add on your own food and order yourself some drinks before paying and placing your phone down. You smirk at him. “Now we wait.”
“I’m starvin’,” Jake muttered. “Haven’t had the chance to eat today.”
“You’ve got to start looking after yourself, Jake,” you reprimanded.
He shrugged at you. “Steven and Marc look after the body just fine.”
“But it’s not just about Steven and Marc, it’s about you too.”
Jake looked at you with an unreadable look on his face for a moment before he reached across the table, and you took his hand again, and like before, started stroking your thumb up and down against him. “I’m okay, baby.”
“I worry about you,” you say. “We haven’t spent much time together recently and I’ve missed you.”
Jake opened his mouth to reply, but you were interrupted by the waitress bringing over your drinks, giving you both a smile before walking away. You look back at each other, Jake looking at you with the softest of smiles, barely there if you didn’t look at him properly. “I know you worry. I’m sorry. I’m not the easiest person to be around and I’m trying to get better. For you. And the boys, I guess. Steven’s been on my case a little bit for not drinking enough water.”
You give a small laugh as you let go of his hand, reaching for your drink and taking a sip. “In his defence, I believe him. I don’t think you do.”
“I’m on the road every other day, when do I have the time?” Jake asked defensively, taking a gulp of his own drink (definitely the opposite of water).
You roll your eyes. “I’m going to start leaving bottles of water out for you before you go.”
Jake ignored the pang in his chest; no-one had ever cared for him before, until he’d gone ‘public’. Despite his unwavering dedication to safeguarding others, Jake was always taken aback when you, and even Steven and Marc, show him the same concern. Accustomed to assuming the role of protector, Jake is surprised by the depth of your love. He didn’t think he would ever have anything like this.
He experiences a mix of emotions ranging from awe and gratitude to a touch of discomfort, grappling with the idea that someone cares so deeply for his safety and happiness.
You understand his essential need to protect and you get it, accepting that it is an integral part of who he is, but you just wanted to scream at him to take a minute and relax. You were a team. He needed to accept others were looking out for him just as much as he was looking out for others.
“Okay,” Jake finally said, nodding. “I’d appreciate that, thank you.”
You give him a smile as the waitress came back with the food you’d ordered, asking for any extras. You both thanked her before she walked away, looking at the foods in front of you with wide eyed excitement. “This all looks so good.”
Jake gave a nod, already grabbing a wrapped-up empanada. “Thank you for bringing me here.”
You looked at him and sighed happily as he took a bite of the beef empanada. You loved him so much, even when he was stuffing his face like a man who hadn’t eaten in months. After chewing for a moment, Jake groaned, his eyes practically rolling in the back of his head as he dipped the pastry into his tub of hot sauce. You laughed. “Good?”
“The best empanada I’ve had in years.”

Groups of friends and different families' laughs and cheers echo into the night; softly heard from the secluded place Jake had parked.
Not too far from the streets but just enough to be hidden in the shadows of the buildings; undisturbed. The seats squeaked quietly with each roll of your hips; your soft moans sounded nearly like shouts with how quiet it was. He had promised you a fun night out, which it was; filled with nothing but joyous laughter and the feelings of a warm heart, you couldn’t say you hadn’t been enjoying yourself. It wasn’t until the two of you were heading to the car, you started getting a little handsy; which you should’ve known better.
Cause nobody plays with fire better than Jake.
His kisses melted you to the core, making your stomach knot endlessly and your heart pound rapidly. His hands smoothed over your sides, fueling that growing desire he fed to you with his tongue. Wet kisses placed all over your chin and neck, followed by a little pinch of his teeth. His warm breath fanned over your face as he pressed you up against the car, hungrily devouring your lips before all he said was to get in.
You had thought the plan was to go back to the flat but he seemed to be driving further away. When you asked, he only chuckled softly saying you deserved a better view than just the dusty ol’ ceiling for tonight. You shut your mouth again, hoping it would stop any more seductive words leave his lips until you got to your destination. When the smell of saltwater hits your nose, you smile madly towards him as he finds a spot from all other beach goes, looking over the dark wonderful sea.
It’s a race to the back seat, one where he wins and is shutting your door as he kisses you fervently. He strips you bare quickly, touching and kneading you in all your sensitive spots. Your head spins with how warm and nice his hands feel against your skin. You’re barely able to get his tie off before his fingers enter you and you’re shaking in his grasp. Neither of you waste any time slipping him inside of you which led to where you are now– bouncing desperately on his cock eager for any sort of release.
Your legs were beginning to ache as your desire for an orgasm grew but you couldn’t reach it. His hands were firmly holding your hips, keeping you steady enough you could keep a decent pace even though he wouldn’t let you come. He swatted your hand away again and again whenever you tried to please yourself and finally you caught a glimpse of his steely gaze in the rearview mirror, you know what he wants.
“Please Jake,” you pleaded, rocking your hips faster; trying to tempt him to give you what you want but he doesn’t.
“Please, please, please,” you chanted; you need him– you needed to hear him.
“I need your voice,” you beg, your final plea to him; and it works. His hand snakes up to your neck, coaxing your head back. It feels like he’s slipped deeper inside of you and you can’t help but squirm as pitched noises leave you.
“Shh sweetheart, I’ve got you,” he whispered lowly, sending shivers down your spine; you moan.
“You like that?”
“Yeah.”
“Then be good for me and come.” the command shoots your thighs together and you cry out his name. He moves your hips, grinding you further on his cock, fucking you through your orgasm.
“That’s it mi amor, let me fill you up,” he groans against your neck, and you whine letting yourself fall completely flat against him. You swear up and down you can feel him in your stomach, filling you up to the brim; the mess inside of you is already too intoxicating. He doesn’t give you a chance to breathe before he lifts you off his cock, laying you down on the seats as he settles back between your thighs– pushing some of his cum back in as he slides back into you.
“Jake–”
“Let me take care of you,” his words hit you straight in your gut and another half-broken moan left your lips.
“Let me show you just how good I can make you feel,” he finishes with a sloppy kiss pressed to your lips; one filled with so much hunger you feared you wouldn’t last with all he had planned for you. He peeled open the rest of his button-up, placing your hand on his chest to feel his skin– his heart pounding nearly as hard as yours. You look at him in delightful fear, as he secures your legs around his waist; leaning forward to a quick kiss, lips trailing toward your ear as he whispers:
“Don’t worry, I won’t keep my mouth shut.” you blink a few times, registering the words he said as he pulls back so you can see his lopsided grin.
And he winks.
“Fuck.”

fic summary: what's a few burnt mementos between friends?
A/N: i was cold so i finally wrote this lol
_____________________
This stinks.
Literally, this whole setup stinks. Lighting a fire always seems so appealing until you remember how the stench of it clings to your body and clothes, head to toe. You’ll carry it with you until you can rid yourself of everything imbued with smoke and dive through the shower.
As you glance toward the box at your feet, the irony doesn’t escape you: lighting a fire to forget while it refuses to let you. What’s one more memory scorched into your person?
“Hey.”
A familiar voice snaps you back to the present. In the dim light you see the outline of your friend, bundled up as he walks toward you.
“Hey yourself.” Jake has an open invitation to swing by anytime, but you had forgotten to text him and ask for some privacy tonight. You kick the box beneath your seat. Jake pretends not to notice.
Instead, he hands you a thermos. “Bit cold to be outside, don’t you think?”
“I’m staying warm out of spite.” You open the thermos and nearly melt as the smell of your favorite hot beverage wafts up from the canister. At least he never comes empty handed.
A gloved hand gestures for you to pass the thermos back as Jake takes the seat next to you. The light of the fire dances across his features, the tired look in his eyes more prominent in the orange glow. He pours a steaming mug from the canister and passes it to you, capping it and pulling out a flask for himself.
You sip your drink as you continue to examine him. This must not be a social visit.
Finally you clear your throat. “Do you want to talk about it, or do you want a distraction?”
He smirks, shaking his head. “Distraction, if you’re game.”
“Sure… yeah, okay.” The mug is a welcome comfort to your frigid hands, but you part with it to drag the box back out. “Guess what today is?”
You can see the wheels turning in his mind as he runs through every significant date possible. His eyes widen when he spies the corner of something poking out from the box. “Your anniversary,” he winces.
“Ugh, don’t call it that.” You set the box on the seat between you. “But yes, technically. One year since… you know. I ended things.”
Jake nods sagely, putting his flask back in his coat pocket. He remembers what happened a year ago.
It was a gnarly breakup. He was proud of you for ending things with your ex, and he made sure to tell you every time doubt began to creep into your mind. But even now, he knew you could be triggered by the smallest things. You’d avoid certain phrases when you spoke; you couldn’t stand the smell of the places you frequented on your dates; you hadn’t touched the book series you both had bonded over since they stopped being part of your life.
Jake’s attention falls back on the box. “And how are we celebrating tonight?”
You laugh, sharp and bitter. “Yeah, it’s a real party.” Still, you open the box to give him a better look at its contents. To anyone else, it’d look like a pile of junk. And technically, to you, it is junk: odds and ends, trinkets and notes are piled inside. On top sits a book, decently sized and paperback with worn pages.
You shrug. “Figured tonight was as good a time as any to bury the hatchet. Or burn it.”
Jake looks at you quizzically. “Then why haven’t you?” He scoots his seat closer to yours, a small grin playing on his lips. “I mean, I’m honored if you were waiting for little ol’ me, but I get the feeling you wanted to do this alone.” He nudges your foot with his own. “What’s the holdup?”
You stare down at the box, then at the fire. “It just… I don’t know. It feels mean. Like, I could just stick this stuff back in my closet and it’d basically be the same thing.”
Jake shakes his head. “If that was the case, you wouldn’t have gone through the trouble of lighting this thing and sat here freezing your ass off for so long.” When this draws a small smile from you, he continues. “You’re not going to hurt anyone if you get rid of these things once and for all. Not if it’s what you really want to do. But…” he sighs, picking up the paperback and flipping through it. “If you want to keep ‘em a while longer, nobody’s gonna get hurt from that, either.” He closes the book and looks you in the eye. “It’s up to you.”
You’re focused on the book in his hands as he talks. After a moment, your voice is soft. “They never even read it. That book, I loaned it to them. It wasn’t my favorite, but I figured we could bond over the author or something. Do you know where they put it as soon as I handed it over?” Your face scrunches in disgust. “Their fucking gym bag. They gave it back a month later, never even opened it.”
You haven’t thought about that moment since you shoved the novel in the reject pile ages ago. It wasn’t even the fact that your ex had put something of yours in the same bag as their used socks and God knows what else. When they gave it back to you, unread, it felt tainted in more ways than one. Tainted with neglect. One of the first red flags you’ve beaten yourself up over not recognizing sooner. Your eyes sting with tears– whether from sadness, frustration, or the smoke blowing your way, you can’t tell. All you know is that you can’t stand to look at the thing anymore.
Jake reads you loud and clear. He stands up, crosses to the other side of the fire, and opens the book in the middle. “Well, this thing does not spark joy.” With a flourish, he takes one page in hand, and tears it from the book with a decided riiiiiip.
You watch with wide eyes as he holds the page over the flames. As if waiting for your approval (not that you fancied taping a page back into the gym bag book either way). You nod, and Jake shouts, “En el fuego te vas!” before crumpling the page and dropping it into the fire pit.
You laugh for the first time all evening. Jake continues, tearing page after page from the novel and ceremoniously dropping them into the fire. A weight seems to have been lifted from him, as well, as he gets louder and more energized with every offering.
Finally you stand up and take the book from his hands. “Can’t let you have all the fun, Lockley.” You grab a fistful of the remaining pages and scatter them into the fire pit, then chuck the rest of the book into the makeshift inferno.
Plumes of smoke rise as sparks fly out from the force of your enthusiasm. Jake wraps his arms around you and turns your body away, shielding you from the brunt of the embers. “Easy, cariño.”
“You made it look fun,” you say breathlessly. The cold and adrenaline catch up to you, and you’re practically buzzing. Jake rubs his hands along your shoulders to steady you.
“Want to keep going, then?”
You smile wide. “Hell yeah.”
The two of you spend the next half hour sorting through the box, bidding each item farewell before dropping it into the fire pit. You’re convinced dumping the whole thing in at once would be the perfect catharsis, but Jake convinces you to take your time (and avoid calling the fire department).
Later, as the flames cool and every memento has been reduced to ash, you sit with Jake in the fading glow of the fire, his arm around you as you sip from the thermos.
“Jake?” you ask quietly, face flush against his chest as you watch the light leave each ember.
“Yeah?”
“Happy anniversary.”
A/N: ladies if he sticks a novel you loaned him in his goddamn duffel bag, kick 'em to the curb

PREVIOUSLY, on “With You”...
Jake could live without Marc and Steven knowing about him. He’d lived that way all this time, but you were something else. He hadn’t wanted to meet you like this. He had screwed up, and now you were only worried about Marc. He was worried too, honestly.
Now you would never want to know him.
Tumblr media
“I’ll sleep on the couch,” Jake decided, by which he was effectively deciding to do nothing. He may be able to eliminate the vilest creatures under night’s shadow, but trying to explain to you that he was the reason your fiancé obliterated his sobriety...
Jake didn’t fear anything. In fact, as the streets of London descended from depraved men to monstrous supernatural threats, he relished his role as Khonshu’s vengeful fist. Someone had to do it, and Jake was suited to the task.
A creature of the night, he savored the quiet, cool leather interior of his car as much as the dingy London air whipping through his white cape. And the more challenging his vicious foes, the more Jake reveled in it. He protected people. That was his sole purpose.
Including Marc and Steven.
So the fact that he somehow missed Marc tossing back a bottle of whiskey and upsetting you in the process, well - if he couldn’t protect you and his alters, then he had no reason to exist.
So, time for bed. He would fade into darkness and you would get back who you really wanted.
Reaching to scoop up each item of clothing he had discarded, with none of this explained aloud to you, he turned to flee.
“Wait,” you pleaded, blocking his pathway out of the bedroom, your hands reaching out to push back gently against the pile in his arms. His gaze fell on yours - open, yet unreadable. Not menacing, but not to be bothered. His eyes didn’t flicker away like Marc’s. He stared you down, waiting.
“Just wait a second, Jake,” you found yourself whispering, a bit transfixed. “Where do you usually sleep?”
Lips parting in anticipation, your heart did some clichéd somersaulting as he tore his eyes from yours and nodded to your bed.
“You sleep with me?” You clarified, dumbfounded.
Dark eyes flickered momentarily down to your mouth. His tongue swiped over the fullness of his bottom lip before dragging it between his teeth.
“I sleep with you.”
The rich timbre of his voice electrified you.
“Only so you can wake up with them.”
Air rushed out of you in a mildly dramatic exhale. What was this man doing to you?
“Please,” you whispered, unsure of what you were even asking him. Mostly, you didn’t want to be without them. You had waited all night, terrified. “Don’t go. I was so worried.”
Eyes narrowing suspiciously, Jake nodded once. He knew what you needed, and it wasn’t him.
Ten minutes later, after what was, for you, an unbearable silence, Jake climbed into bed with you. Having washed up and making his well-fitting ensemble disappear somehow (where did he keep his clothes?), he decided on Steven’s soft pajamas. The sleeves sagged adorably, covering his hands, but Jake’s fingers didn’t fidget like his alter’s.
How many times had he done this? Pretended to be them? And were you okay with it? Was it even really your business? It was his body too.
The lights remained off from before, allowing you the cover of darkness to ease under the blankets, as if acting in a play.
If Marc were with you, he would pull your back against his chest, folding you close until either your body relaxed, or until his lips breathed salacious words on your ear while his hand slipped between your legs. Either that, or he would bury his face in your tummy, the way he had done that morning. That, too, often ended up with him between your legs.
For Steven, it was the crook of your neck, latched on to you like a koala. After years of sleeping poorly, or trying his damndest to stay awake and not “sleepwalk”, nothing soothed him more than your soft skin and reassuring arms. He marvelously discovered that, with you, he had no trouble falling asleep at all. For Steven, the mornings were when he needed you most. The two of you would race to the bathroom, playfully fighting over who would freshen up first before tumbling back into bed, where he would be sure to end up between your legs.
But here, now, Jake was a statue.
You were Marc and Steven’s whole world. Jake knew he had fucked up enough for one week. There was no way he was moving one millimeter in this bed. Hopefully, the warm surge in this heart would settle to the soothing sound of your breathing. That was his balm - you were his anchor. After the cracking of bones and the wailing of night’s creatures deafening his ears - the gentle rise and fall of your chest in the night was his lullaby.
But he didn’t dare touch you. You weren’t his.
Sometimes you attached yourself to him the night, or maybe he only dreamed that you did. He was never him when sleep ended.
Feeling the tension rolling off you, the urge to somehow alleviate your worries taunted him. But he was certain he didn’t even possess the ability to soothe, only to punish.
So he said nothing. He did nothing. He waited for sleep.
“Jake...” As you turned to him, your sweet voice crawled up his neck, intoxicating him utterly. “Would it be okay if I held your hand?”
The memory of your smooth skin was seared into his memory from the featherlight kiss he’d given your knuckles. He didn’t even hesitate to grasp for you in the dark, tangling his fingers with yours.
Pressing your face to the soft fabric covering his shoulder, you, undeniably realistic you, accepted this real moment. You wanted answers. You wanted a lot of things. He gave you his hand. You took what was here, now.
“I’m glad to know you, Jake,” you whispered, your heavy eyes sliding closed, despite everything. Squeezing his fingers, and swiping your thumb softly along his, you added, “I hope you’ll come back to me soon.”
Tumblr media
You woke up to a mess of chocolate curls buried in your stomach.
Marc.
Your sweet, tormented angel.
There was a slight chance it wasn’t Marc, but the familiar whimpers of a nightmare gave him away even more than tummy cuddles.
“Shhh,” you soothed, raking your fingernails through his messy waves. “I’ve got you.”
He squeezed you, murmuring, “No,” brokenly before whimpering again. His nightmares weren’t flailing arms and shouts like in films. They were this: soft, pleading mumbles and anguished pleas.
With a sudden change in his breath, he was awake, eyes darting wildly as he climbed his way up your body, hands checking you frantically.
“Right here, baby,” you murmured, eyes soft and full of love. He looked so broken, you wanted to cry, while desire simultaneously ripped up your spine. Whatever this man of yours needed, you were going to give him, likely, to your great pleasure and benefit. Win-win.
“You’re here,” he repeated, gathering you in his strong arms as the weight of his body crushed you in the most delicious way. “I dreamed you were gone. You left, or...or someone took you away from me.”
“Never,” you uttered with conviction, pressing your lips to the corner of his jaw, opening your mouth to breathe hotly before kissing a trail to his ear. “I’ll never let that happen. I’ll burn down the whole world first.”
A choked sob erupted from his chest as he whispered your name. Fusing his lips with yours, his fingers gripped your jaw desperately as if he feared you would quite literally slip through them.
Responding to the press of his body like a partner in a well-rehearsed dance, your legs fell open, ready to feel the heat of him consuming you. His mouth hadn’t left yours, but his thick fingers dragged (his) t-shirt up your torso and over your head.
Only then, when your lips parted, did his dark, desperate gaze lock onto yours. “Need you,” he groaned, his voice tinged with the slight beg you associated with Steven.
Surging forward, you met his furious kiss with equal hunger, pushing under his soft pajamas, pulling, dragging until your naked limbs were tangled, pressing and pulling in desperate passion.
“You’re mine,” he growled, deep inside you, claiming you, as if you had any doubt or desire to be apart from him. “He can’t h-have you. I won’t let him.”
You were oddly turned on by the idea that maybe he sounded jealous of Jake, who had merely held your hand in the dark.
He didn’t mean Jake.
In fact, he wasn’t even aware you’d held an audience with his mysterious alter.
No, he meant the twisted, deceitful, formidable Egyptian god of the moon, to whom he remained enslaved. The one who took you away in his dream.
The things Marc was doing to your body - you could barely think straight. Your back arched in pleasure, your fingers clawing at the sculpted muscles of his back, desperate to somehow bring him even closer to you.
“I’m yours,” you gasped, realizing with the deep moan that followed, that you didn’t really have control over your voice at this point.
“Mine,” he repeated, as you drowned in him, and he in you.
Tumblr media
After a long, hot shower together, filled with salacious kisses and some very naughty handiwork, the two of you finally made it to the kitchen. Just like in bed, you danced around one another with practiced ease, as if perfectly executing the blocking of a play. Your hand reached for the coffee grounds, while he readied the filter. He found the bread while you produced his favorite jam.
Shoulders rubbed and soft smiles were exchanged, eyes longingly dancing, locking and flittering away to the tasks at hand.
“Thank you,” he finally said, leaning in to press a kiss to your temple, “for this morning.”
You almost teased him for thanking you for what you two did quite regularly in bed, but you knew what he meant. Whatever anchor he’d needed this morning, you were it.
Still, you were a cheeky one, as Steven frequently reminded you... “I should be thanking you, baby,” you innocently purred. “That thing you did...when you turned me over, holy shit--”
“Okay, okay,” he laughed out, motioning for you to get back to breakfast, as if he would ever actually order you about. “You and your dirty mind, I swear to god.”
You laughed out delightedly. “That’s rich, Mr. Spector.”
One of his dark eyebrows shot up. “Call me ‘Mr. Spector’ again and I’ll take you right back in there,” he playfully warned.
Tempting.
The toast popped up to interrupt the two of you, giving Marc’s thoughts just enough time to drift back to much more serious matters. He wanted to be with you all day today. He knew Steven had class at uni and you had work - he didn’t care. He needed you to know things.
“Hey, um...” he started, before you could make another quip about Mr. Spector or the bedroom, “I...I meant to tell you...” reaching up to rub the back of his neck, he swallowed nervously. “I--there’s another bottle. In the flat.”
Bracing his hands on the countertop, his head dropped. It was hard to look at you when he thought he might disappoint you. “I wasn’t trying to hide it, I just...that night, I...”
Reaching over, you laid your hand over his, there on the counter’s edge. “Thank you for letting me know. Do you want to tell me where it is?”
His eyes darted over to yours and he swallowed hard. “The low shelf, down by the edge of that old table I haven’t fixed yet.”
Ah yes, the ‘don’t throw it out, I can fix it’ project that was cluttering your living room. Steven collected books; Marc collected abandoned, broken things...
“Hm,” you hummed thoughtfully, “Steven’s reading chair is right there. He’s going to figure this out, you know.”
“I know,” Marc quickly responded. “I think I wanted him to. Or you. I don’t know...” He didn’t wait for any sympathy. There was too much to tell you before he completely train wrecked his entire life.
“Something happened,” he pressed on, determined. Then he told you. Head bowed, hands gripping the counter, he explained.
You remained completely still at first, but you noticed that the more you acted normal, the easier it was for him to talk. So you finished the coffee, slathered the toast with jam, and walked everything to the tiny table at the kitchen’s edge, where the two of you loved to share your favorite meal almost every single day.
He had fronted a few days ago. It was dark, cold. He was outside, in an unlit, ominously quiet alley. He didn’t know where he was. Steven wasn’t there with him. He reached for his phone and shook with horror at the white bandage-looking material wrapped around his hands. Realizing his face was covered with a mask, he started to panic when the fabric quickly receded, leaving him gasping.
His body was covered in Moon Knight’s mummified wrap.
“No, no, no, no,” he cried, forgetting, for a moment, that he could simply will the suit away, and clawing at the material instead.
Then he heard it. Him.
“Marc Spector,” the booming voice of Khonshu splintered through his mind, wracking his body with terror.
“No, NO,” Marc shouted, climbing to his feet and pressing his palms into his forehead. “You’re gone. I don’t belong to you anymore!”
He ran, clinging to control of the body, determined not to allow Khonshu anywhere near Steven. Or you.
The old god’s skeletal form appeared on various rooftops, following and taunting Marc, his voice eerie and all consuming, as if the bird were nearly shouting into his ear.
“Run away if you can. This body doesn’t belong to you,” the voice taunted.
“Leave me alone!” Marc shouted, but it came out as more of a whimper, like trying to scream for help in a dream. “We had a deal!” He halted, banging his fists against his head as if it would make the ancient being simply evaporate.
But the spiteful deity scoffed, turning his bony back as if done with the conversation. Turning his menacing beak back toward the puny one in control of his avatar, he replied, “Lockley is mine, and so are you.”
Then he vanished.
Just the relief of the god disappearing urged Marc’s legs forward, stumbling through angry tears until he reached your home. You were at work. He paced the flat, tugging his hands through his hair, desperate to keep Steven in the dark.
“It can’t be,” he gasped, over and over again, trying to convince himself. “We’re free. We made a deal. We’re free.” This overwhelm would normally bring Steven to the front, but Marc held on, pacing himself to exhaustion. He was asleep on the couch by the time you came home.
You woke up to Steven. And while you worked your next shift, he bought the whiskey.
He waited another day to drink it.
Tumblr media
“I thought maybe...I wondered if I had completely lost my mind,” he uttered, finishing his story, now seated at the kitchen table.
Easing off your chair, you knelt in front of your fiancé, setting your palms gently on his thighs.
“Don’t say that.”
“No, I mean really,” he went on, his hands covering your own, grasping at your fingers. “I thought...what if all this time, Khonshu was in my head? Like...part of me.”
“Like another alter?” you questioned, peering up at him.
“Maybe. I started wondering about all of this Moon Knight bullshit--if it even really happened. And, now there’s this Lockley...” Trailing off he sighed, defeated.
Okay, progress was happening. Might as well get it all out in the open.
“I met him, you know,” you carefully admitted, smoothing your thumb over his as you waited for his reaction. “Lockley.”
“Shit,” he rasped, gripping your hands desperately. “He was here, with you? What did he say?”
“Not much,” you admitted. “His name is Jake. Jake Lockley. He was here last night.”
“Here in the flat?”
“Yes. Late last night. He came in through the bedroom window like Spider-Man or something. We talked for a minute, he told me his name and then we went to bed. I didn’t really find out that much about him.”
Releasing your fingers, Marc sat up straight in his kitchen chair, his eyes darkening possessively. “He went to bed with you?”
Hm. You could have worded that better. “Marc, I--”
“Did he touch you?” His jaw clenched, the muscles in his neck straining as his dark eyes burned turbulently.
“It wasn’t like that,” you protested, quickly climbing up off the ground to stand in front of him. Caressing his face tenderly, you shook your head. “I wanted to talk to him - to see what the hell is going on. He seemed worried about you drinking.”
“You talked to him about that?” Marc pushed off his chair then, pacing across the kitchen and back. “I haven’t even talked to him yet.”
Fair enough.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart, it just came out,” you confessed, giving him a little space, while pushing down your urge to grab him. “Jake was about to leave, and I wanted some answers. I wanted you all here with me. He came home so late, Marc, and your phone was dead. I was so fucking scared...”
Your breath hitched as tears clouded your eyes. “You’ve been so upset, and the drinking... Steven doesn’t have any idea what’s going on and then this Jake uses the damn window in the middle of the night and I thought he was going to leave, and go back out in the night, with no phone. I wanted you here, Marc, so...so I asked him to stay. I asked him if he knew what was going on, or why you had been drinking--”
“Okay, baby, okay,” he conceded, reaching for your shoulders to bring you close. “I’m sorry. It’s not your fault.”
The two of you held one another in the middle of your drafty little kitchen, the shared answers between you only raising more questions.
“I think you should talk to Steven,” you suggested gently, “if you feel ready.”
Resting his forehead against yours, he rubbed your back soothingly. “Yeah. And maybe...maybe Jake too.”

“And this is Jake.”
Your smile freezes on your face as your Dad gestures to his aforementioned best friend. If it wasn’t for the grounding warmth of his hand on your arm you were sure you would have had an out of body experience.
Him.
Oh fuck.
How could it be him?
“Nice to finally meet you Jake.” You nod and shake his hand when he holds his out to you.
“Likewise.” His own smile is polite, tailored to a mask of neutrality that you can see through. He’s shitting himself just as much as you are.
Your Dad laughs, thankfully oblivious to the sudden tension in air. “I’m glad you two could finally meet.”
If it wasn’t for social norms you’d turn on your heels and just march right out of there. Maybe you could hide somewhere in the crowd.
Your Father and Step-Mother were renewing their vows, and were throwing an ‘engagement’ party of sorts.
They’d long ago moved out of the town you’d grown up in, as had you and sadly your new home was further away from them than you’d have liked. So you didn’t get to see them in person as much as you wanted to.
Jake had met your Dad about four years ago, the two becoming fast friends. From what your Dad had told you Jake travelled a lot, but when they did meet up they always got on like a house on fire. He was, as well, a little camera shy. Covering his face or ducking out of the way in group photos, so the most you’d ever seen of him was the arm of his leather jacket, a blurred cap, or the scruff of curls poking just into frame.
It had become a running joke that this ‘Jake’ was either imaginary, or a spy.
Your Dad had had you young, an accident that he always called ‘his greatest achievement’. Despite his youth and the barely sixteen years between you, he had been and was a wonderful father.
Someone calls your Dad’s name and he excuses himself quickly, darting off before you even have a chance to protest.
You look after him forlornly, your shoulders slumping.
Maybe running away wasn’t such a break of social norms.
“Hi.” Jake says softly, having taken a step closer.
You turn back to him. He’s shoved his hands in his pocket, looking down before giving you an uncertain smile.
You return the gesture.
“I’m so sorry-” You blurt out.
“I didn’t know you-” He starts at the same time.
You both laugh.
“What are the odds?” He says with a shrug.
“Well, I guess a fondness for you runs in the family?”
Jake pulls a face and you laugh.
“Don’t say that.” He grins.
You try and fail to hide your smile. “Sorry.”
He shakes his head. “Maybe… if I’d told you my name?”
“Well,” you shift your weight, relaxing a little. “I didn’t tell you mine either.”
“We were a little preoccupied.”
“Hmm.” You nod and close your eyes for a second to let the wave of embarrassment pass. “The first time yeah… but I think by the sixth we probably should have.”
He laughs again. It’s a musical sound, deep and rich. Calming in its certainty. “What did you save my number as?”
Heat burns a little under your skin. “Pretty guy.”
“Pretty guy?” His eyebrows raise, but not in upset, just surprise.
“Yeah, well,” you pull a face. “You’re pretty and a guy, so…”
He puffs his chest out a little, leaning a fraction closer. “You think I’m pretty.” He teases.
You give him a sincere look. “I think you’re beautiful.”
The honesty gives him pause for just a beat before he quickly recovers. “Says you.”
“Says me?”
“Yeah, says you. You’re stunning.” He lightly touches your forearm, his fingertips just ghosting over your skin.
You swallow, trying not to get lost in his eyes. “Shut up. What do you have me saved as then?”
He grins, not breaking eye contact for a moment before he pulls out his phone and shows you your contact information. There’s a single red heart emoji listed as your name.
“I didn’t take you as a romantic.” You tease.
He chuckles, leaning close and whispering in your ear. “Haven’t been treating you right then, have I?” He softly brushes the tip of his nose along your ear and you shiver. “Let me show you just how romantic I can be?”
He leans back just enough for you to see his expression, the question in his dark eyes as he nods his head towards the venue doors.
You grin. “Let’s get out of here.”

Fighting
A)n: Heyyyy... I'm back :)
Warning: none, angst, yelling, arguing
Gn reader Masterlist
Steven
He doesn’t yell
But it’s that exactly that makes it worse
He refuses to yell, but he’ll be a sarcastic little shit
“Oh really? How lovely.”
“Oh my dearest apologies, my liege, I didn’t realize I had to agree with everything you had to say.”
Steven won’t back down, he’ll keep this energy until he’s done talking about it and then he’ll ignore you
He won’t ask how your day's been, he won't hug you, he won't even look at you
And it’ll drive you crazy
The only reason this started was because Steven missed a date and didn’t acknowledge that he would be late or wanted to cancel
He was working late for Donna again, but this time it just set off something in his head
Normally you wouldn’t be too upset about him missing a date, seeing as he’s got other people to take care of and he’s got a shitty boss, but when you asked him about the date, he blew up
“God, it was one date, why do you have to nag me about it?”
“Excuse me? I wasn’t trying to nag you, Steven, I just wanted to know what happened.”
“You’re not my bloody parent, you don’t need to know!”
“Take that back.”
“No.”
And now you're in your room and Steven's sleeping on the couch
That night will give him time to realize he was in the wrong and he'll feel super guilty
When he wakes up with a stiff back and sore neck, he'll think he deserves it
He'll wait until you come out to get up
And then he's following you around like a lost puppy
He won't say anything, but he'll look so sad and just be following you everywhere you go
It would be cute if you weren't upset with him
You'll have to be the one to start a conversation, but as soon as you say a single word to him, Steven's apologizing faster than you can process
"Love, I'm so so sorry. I was an absolute knob, I was so stressed and upset yesterday and I know that's not a reason to treat you so terribly, but it was such a bad day. I promise I'll make it up with 3, no, 5 dates! We can do whatever you want today and tomorrow and all week! Please forgive me, darling. I know I don't deserve it, but please just give me another chance."
He looks like he's about to burst into tears and kneel for you
(Which would be hot in a different setting)
Depending on how passionate you feel about this, it might take some time to forgive him, but he's there every second of the day
Or if you want him to leave you alone, he'll respect that
You'll find little notes of lovey poems around the flat and your favorite snacks littered around the living room
He honestly feels like a terrible partner so when you do decide to forgive him, just give him a kiss and hug him
He'll cry and apologize a bunch more so just pet his head and tell him it's ok
He'll genuinely sit you down and ask if there's something he can do to get his 'anger issues' under control
Poor baby doesn't have anger issues, he just has a shitty boss <3
Marc
He yells
He yells loud and painful things
He doesn’t care, he can’t bother to care
He’s angry and that’s all he feels
He can’t think past it, it’s like he sees red
He’ll shout until his throat is raw, but he’ll get as many insults and sarcastic comments he can before that happens
He knows what he’s doing is wrong, he knows the only reason you’re arguing is because of him
But he’s not backing down
He wants to hurt you and he does
And it makes everything worse for at least a week
Marc came home absolutely wreaked from a fight and refused your help, preferring to drink and just sit there
If you weren’t so upset at the fact he refused your help and instead wanted the help of alcohol, you’d yell at him about staining the couch with his blood
You’ll either have to deal with Marc breaking out into an argument after the initial one, or leave to stay somewhere else
If you come back the next day, Marc will still be upset
He won’t start yelling at you again, but he’ll ignore you
And it really just stops there
It’s the silent treatment for a week
He'll make dinner for you and all that, but he won't talk to you
He'll stare at you, wondering if you'll be the one to apologize
Or he'll be staring at you to see if you're watching him
You're not
He'll stay silent for an entire week, festering in his anger and guilt until it overflows
And when you come back home from work or being out late, he's waiting for you
And he looks like a kicked puppy
It was no surprise Marc had no idea how to apologize and admit/accept his feelings but at this moment, none of that mattered
His guilt and the feeling of missing you outweighed his discomfort of voicing his feelings
He'll start with an apology, saying how sorry he was and how terrible he felt
He didn't give any excuse or reason for his anger, he just apologized and stood there
He expects you to yell at him, leave him, insult him
Just gently take him in your arms and kiss his cheek
You don't even have to tell him anything, he'll promise to never yell at you like that again
"If I do, you can hit me as hard as you want."
Marc will say, though if you did actually hit him, he'd probably cry
He'll be so genuine with his words and.the nail in the coffin was the fact that he promised
Marc never makes promises, even if he knows he can fulfill them
But he swears up and down that he will never yell at you again
And he does everything in his power to reverse or heal the damage his words did to you
Even going out of his comfort zone
He loves you so much and he doesn't understand why you're still with him, but he thanks every God and Goddess that you are
Jake
He’s dangerously silent
He’ll stand there completely blanked face, eyes set in a slight glare as you argue about something that was definitely his fault
Maybe he missed a date and didn’t bother to let you know he wasn’t coming or wrote off your worry about a few injuries and called you ‘clingy’ and ‘overbearing’
Either way, he doesn’t respond to your anger, just standing there like he didn’t care
And it hurt
Once you were done explaining how you felt or what Jake did wrong, he’ll roll his eyes, pull out a cigarette and sit in the couch
He’ll play the baseball game he may have missed or just watch the news to really set in that something that boring was more interesting than your feelings
“Do you seriously find the news more important than our relationship?”
He won’t look at you
“I can’t believe this. If you care so fucking little, then why are you still here?”
“This is my house.”
“Then maybe I should go if it’s just your house.”
“You should.”
And you do
You go to a friends house, or a hotel, somewhere that you can rest for the night because you’re obviously not going to get anywhere with Jake and you can’t stand his attitude
The second you’re out of the room, Jake curses and throws the tv remote at the wall
He throws everything that he can without any worry of breaking something or getting a noise complaint
He'll throw bottles, plates, pillows, books
Once he's run out of steam, he'll shamefully clean up everything, throwing glass away and putting pillows back
That's give him the time he needs to realize 'oh shit, I fucked up'
He won't come out and admit it instantly, no
He'll fester in his guilt and figure out what exactly he should say
He'll even plan out when he should breathe during his apology
And when you get home, no matter when that is, Jake it waiting patiently with breakfast, lunch, or dinner
He'll give a nervous smile and walk up to you, giving you a hesitant kiss on your cheek before pulling you to the living room couch
Your plate of food is already made and somehow still warm despite Jake no knowing when you'd be back
He'll give an awkward apology, explaining how he's still not used to being something more than a protector for Marc and Steven, how he's still learning to let people in, how he loves you with all his heart despite being such a monster
He might start crying, but he'll try not to show you
He doesn't want to show vulnerability, but he knows it's important in a relationship
So he'll just ask very quietly if he can hug you
Is you say no, he'll nod in understanding as tears fall into his lap
He'll quietly mutter another apology and just sit there, unsure as to what to do
If you say yes, however, he'll gently wrap his arms around your waist and bury his head in your neck
He'll silently cry, muttering 'i love you' over and over again until you say it back
Just rub his back and kiss his head, tell him you forgive him or need time to forgive him and he'll understand either way
He loves you with his entire being, almost like he lives off of loving you

Mornin’ Sunshine
You find Jake Lockley half-asleep on your couch as you get ready for work.
Soft!Jake Lockley x reader blurb
a/n: it’s just fluff yall! No warnings needed. Reader is non-binary but can be read gender-neutral. No y/n
“Ay, good morning papi,” you walk into the living room and kiss Jake on the lips from behind the couch. “Have you been up long?” You were in your apartment, it was small but not cramped- you made sure of it using feng shui techniques you learned over the years.
Six months in your relationship you felt that it was important that the boys got your apartment key since you learned of Jake’s less dangerous job of being a taxi cab driver. ‘Long hours and all that’ you told them. “Mhm, Buenos Días, mi amor.” Jake hums back as you turn the corner of the couch, onward to the kitchen. “And no, I just got back an hour ago.” Jake stayed on your couch. The space made it easy to have a conversation in your open concept apartment. You nod, “you should have woken me up then, baby. I could have made you breakfast and sat with you.” Sure you might have, once or twice, joined in on the nighttime vigilantism but it doesn’t pay the bills. “No,” Jake’s voice was gruff and you could hear how exhausted he was. “You need your sleep.”
You stop scraping butter onto your toast and come back to the living room. Jake faced you the entire time as you got close; close enough to put his head in your hands. Pecking his forehead, Jake leans into your touch. “Jake” you say softly, barely a whisper. He looks up with those beautiful, tired eyes. How can such a man look so majestic in the morning hue. “You are worth loosing sleep over. I would stay awake until the end of time, just to be with you, Lockley.” Jake kisses your left hand cupping his cheek. One hand moves to the cushion next to him, the other moving to his neck, then kissing him deeply. He can smell your freshly washed hair and perfume you swear reminds you of them. “Aye aye preciose.” Jake mutters against your lips when you finally let go. You chuckle and wink, going back to the kitchen. This time Jake follows you.
Going back to spreading butter on your last piece of toast, Jake wraps his arms around your waist and starts swaying. With toast in hand, you lean your head back onto his shoulder, swaying along with him.
“I gatta get to work” you groan, imagining all the steps you have to take to get to the office. It was a Monday and got to work from home after two on Mondays but it was still such a hassle.
Jake only hums in response. You don’t stop swaying until an alarm on your phone goes off telling you to leave now or be late. Sighing you leave Jake’s embrace. You grab your things before the two of you go to the door. “Love you Jake.” You smile softly, making sure to lock the door on the handle before walking out.
“Love you too, mi vida.” Jake stands a couple feet from the door, engulfed by the last minutes of sunrise.

Ok so I’m having trouble finding a fic, again. It’s a moon boys x reader fic, and the reader has a stressful job and they are mistreated by their coworkers. So in one point in the fic the reader blows up at Steven because he tells them, they should quit their job, then Marc front and dares the reader to say to him instead. And yes there’s smut, minor time skip to the reader being pinned to the window by Marc he’s basically teaching the reader a lesson, and when he stops he says something along the lines of “how does it feel to be blamed for something you can’t control”. Then they have a sad moment(the reader cries I think and apologizes multiple times). And I think at some point Jake picks up the reader from their job).
I need help y’all I can’t find this fic anywhere😔.
