In behave of Jake:

He was cheated on his previous relationship, probably his friends would have noticed and tried to talk to him (believe me, FRIENDS usually KNOW) and

1- He believed them and found out by confronting his ex

2- He didn't believe them and found out his ex was cheating him some other way

Either way, he prioritized Ellie's version because he believed she was his friend and that she was looking out for him. Yeah, he should HAVE TALKED WITH TOM, but what was he going to say. That he hadn't cheated? Jake has a trust problem (with his potential boyfriends), and he must work on it before trying something? Yes.

But Ellie was really bad, and even though Jake needed to listen to some truths, Ellie had NO RIGHT on splitting them on him. Specially that way. And Jake had every right to be angry with her.

Also, "maybe if you weren't so annoying, your boyfriend wouldn't have cheated on you." Excuse me!? If you don't like someone anymore, YOU BREAK UP WITH THEM, lady. You don't cheat on them. God, how I despised her on that scene. And I get that Jake can get really annoying at some times, but watching people siding with Ellie on this hurt me.
