THEM! | Episode 399

Jim dedicates this episode to the memory of his parents, Jim & Phyllis, who would have celebrated their 70th Wedding anniversary the day after this publishes. One of the most-loved “Big Bug” films of the 50’s is discussed here with 1954’s “THEM!,” starring James Whitmore, James Arness, Joan Weldon, Edmund Gwynn, Sandy Descher, Fess Parker, Onslow Stevens, Sean McClory, Leonard Nimoy, Dub Taylor, and Olin Howland. Directed by Gordon Douglas, this film set the tone for radiation-themed, big-big films to come. Join us or a very special episode of MONSTER ATTACK!, The Podcast Dedicated To Old Monster Movies.

Jeff Donnell and James Whitmore in a publicity photo for “Captain in Command,” a 1954 episode of the CBS television anthology series, “Schlitz Playhouse of Stars.” Two terrific actors.

Final part of gifs from the Riptide episode Home for Christmas. One of my favorite episodes of the series and one of the best Christmas episodes of any show.
Nick is sick and grumpy until he’s called up by his reserve unit to escort the body of a soldier killed in a training exercise home to his father. Shortly after arrival in the soldier’s hometown, the mortician preparing the body for burial tells Nick that it’s someone else in the coffin. He knew the (supposed) decedent well and this isn’t him.
It sparks hope in the soldier’s elderly father (played brilliantly by James Whitmore) that his son might still be alive, and gets Nick, Cody, and Murray digging into what’s really behind the mix-up.
