reasons why you should respect k-mag:
jan magnussen was 19 years old when kevin was born and his mother, britt, was only 17 years old. his dad had just moved to england to race when she found out that she was pregnant. while i think his parents are wonderful, he wasn’t born into the easiest situation. he grew up with not a lot of money.
kevin has been driving since he was 2 years old, watch this clip.
despite his dad being away a lot, kevin really looked up to him. he has said it was tough for the whole family when his dad was left without a drive after being released from his formula 1 team and that jan was basically shunned in the racing world for a while.
kevin was bullied by the others karting racers and especially their dads because they saw jan magnussen as a failure. while jan magnussen is pretty successful now, it took quite a while for him to be branded as a success, most people just focused on the fact he had not done well in f1.
he struggled in school and was laughed at when his only life plans were that he wanted to win the formula 1 wdc one day.
unfortunately, kevin has been through quite a lot at a young age. when he was 16 years old, his mum got sick with ovary cancer that spread throughout her body, and it looked like she would not survive. by some medical miracle she did. but at 17 years old, his uncle, who kevin was very close with, committed suicide. so basically in the space of less than two years, he almost lost his mum, and had to watch her be really sick, and then he lost his uncle, who had been like a second father to him, in tragic circumstances.
throughout his life, kevin struggled getting sponsorships. despite his dad being a professional racing driver, jan was not rich enough to pay the way for his son. it became so bad that a few years before his formula 1 debut, kevin was working as a factory welder to try and make enough money to keep racing, thinking his racing career was already over. he only got sponsored by jack & jones after he had already gotten into formula 1, so he’s so far removed from being a money driver as one can be. he has publicly refused to ever pay for his formula 1 seat, he wants to be paid and chosen based on his skills.
he was fired by mclaren after falling victim to the power battle within the team and after being promised a seat for 2015. basically most of the board wanted to retain him instead of jenson button, but the richest wanted to keep button and so in the power struggle, it was kevin who became their reserve driver. and then a year later he was fired... ON HIS BIRTHDAY!
he had a miserable season at renault despite being thankful for them bringing him back into formula 1. he was offered a seat for the 2017 season but chose to accept an offer from haas because he wanted to get away from the toxic situation at renault, where some members of the leadership did not even want to greet him on race weekends. renault did not even publicly say they had offered him the seat instead of palmer.
kevin came alive at haas, using a season to get used to the team, and then delivering a good 2018 season. then it went downhill from there until he ultimately lost his seat to make room for m*zepin and his daddy’s dirty money.
he was offered a williams seat for 2021 to replace george russell. yes, you heard that right. williams wanted to kick russell out of formula 1. kevin declined since he did not want to drive another slow car and he felt like it was very sketchy of williams to get rid of george, who kevin believed to be a talented driver deserving of his seat in f1.
he married a school teacher, an “ordinary” woman and not a supermodel, and they have a daughter, laura, who was born 7 weeks too early. she was in the nicu for quite a while, but luckily she seems to have no issues (as far as we know, and if there are some then that’s private).
kevin has always been well liked by all the crews he has worked with - especially the renault and haas crews. he is known for being honest, down to earth and easy to work with. watch this video of him returning to haas, you can basically see their eyes light up.
k-mag is known to be an aggressive racer, which he has confirmed he is, but he sees himself as hard but fair. he rarely complains about other drivers. he is passionate and always gives it 100%. kevin is confused by the bad boy reputation he had in f1, and revealed it was even a joke within the haas team. i think people forget kevin has basically always been racing for p8 to p10, he has never been in a truly competitive car, and so maybe he raced with his elbows out a lot because that was his only chance of getting points.
all his teammates have called him extremely fast and adaptable in various variations. kevin does not need the car to be perfect to do well in a race.
k-mag is without a doubt the best starter in f1. it is rare for him to lose positions on the first lap. we have seen starters where he has overtaken four or five cars within the first lap, cars that have been faster than his own at the time.
he did quite well in his season away from formula 1, trying out different things to see what suited him. when guenther called and offered him the seat, kevin said yes purely based on his gut feeling. he knew that he was saying goodbye to a potential championship to drive a haas car that no one expected much from.
without any physical f1 training (mainly the neck), without having ever driven the 2022 car, not even in simulator, kevin got to bahrain and managed to get a few hours in of testing before he qualified p7 (while having an issue with the car) and getting p5 in the race.
i’m very happy to finally see he is getting the recognition he deserves. i adore that kevin seems to have freed himself from all the pressure and the bullshit he endured during his time in f1, and is now just enjoying it. he really deserves a chance at one of the big teams, i hope he gets at least one season to prove what he can really do with a car that could win.

SFX interview with Pedro Pascal
The latest issue (Jan. 2021) of SFX magazine carries a 2-page interview, which took place after the S2 premiere (technically right after The Passenger). It’s pretty good, and insightful given what took place.
Tumblr media
This Charming Mando
Shortly after the launch of the second episode of season two, SFX caught up with the Mandalorian himself, Pedro Pascal, speaking from Budapest.
words: Adam Tanswell
There are tons of fun and interesting ways that The Mandalorian ties into Star Wars canon. Are you aware of all the Easter eggs when you’re working on the show?
There’s plenty that are pointed out to me and there’s plenty that are obvious, but I think it would be impossible for me to remember them all. On top of the Easter eggs, what I love the most is the reference to very specific genres of cinema.
Can you give us an example of that from the second season?
For season two, the set of the second episode [“The Passenger”] was the first set that I walked on to. It was this shipwrecked Razor Crest on this snowy set, and I’d seen the illustrations of the spiders that were so incredible. The spiders hatching out of those eggs were right out of Alien. Working on the show fires off all of these references to me. And then, of course, there are the specific references to the Star Wars past as well. It’s impossible to keep up with everything, but it’s endlessly fascinating.
What did you enjoy the most about working on the first episode of season two, “The Marshal”?
Working with Timothy Olyphant and being on Tatooine with Jon Favreau was incredible. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say this, but you wouldn’t believe the kind of rehearsal that the three of us had early on for that episode, in order to understand and block a sequence. You know the scene where we’re in the bar and then we step out to the main square of the town to see the Krayt Dragon? We had to rehearse it virtually first. We put on these mechanisms [VR headsets] with remote controls where we were literally able to be in a virtual world. We were actually able to rehearse it all before getting on the set. We were able to physically block the scene, which was crazy to me.
How would you describe the relationship between the Mandalorian and the Child in season two?
Through all of the action, adventure and special effects of the show, the core of it is this relationship between the Mandalorian and the Child. In spite of, and within, the largeness of it all, their story gets more intimate and deeper, which is the ultimate risk for somebody like the Mandalorian. It’s a huge risk to be vulnerable and to develop attachments, so it’s a very special relationship that we see unfold this year.
How does it feel to share the spotlight with the Child?
Honestly, it’s been an amazing experience because you get to witness a very, very unique show come to life. This isn’t my diplomatic answer; I mean this sincerely. To be part of a project like this is a unique experience for everyone, but I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to take the position as the central star because it’s not just me. There’s the Child and many, many others involved. There’s the incredible Industrial Light & Magic people, who have created this character of the Child that everyone has fallen in love with. Plus, there’s the production design team and every single department that’s involved in creating this experience, along with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, who are the ultimate parents of this show.
Talking of whom, what’s it like to work with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni at the helm on a day to day basis?
The success of the show is because of their storytelling skills, as well as their fascination and their very, very, very pure love of Star Wars. It’s funny, because I have to figure out to the best of my abilities where I can contribute to achieve the success of it in every way. I saw images for the show when they were first talking to me about the project. Back then, I saw illustrations of the Child and it was the reason why I said yes to the project.
Have there been any changes to your iconic costume in season two to make it more comfortable for you?
The costume actually got a little heavier in season two. We ended the first season with him upgrading his armour. In order to have a more cinematic shine on the breastplate, it meant that some pieces were a little heavier than last year’s version
What are the themes and underlying messages of the second season that resonate with you the most?
These are very classic tales of good and evil, and how it all exists inside of us. It’s also about the journey towards the light, if that makes any sense. With my character specifically, I love that there’s this ruthless person whose physical identity is kept from the world around him – and possibly a psychological identity that’s kept from himself – but he starts to discover himself through this relationship with a vulnerable but very powerful creature. He follows his heart and does the right thing, no matter how it is against one’s practice or creed or what’s convenient. For me, that would be the prevailing message. It’s a much more intimate message than the broad strokes that can be painted onto the story as a whole. On a basic level, it’s about fighting for good.
It’s a huge deal to be such an iconic part of the Star Wars universe. Were you ready for the fame and attention that comes along with a project like this?
To be honest, I think it would be challenging for any human being. I’ve certainly been navigating how to honour being part of something as iconic as this to the best of my ability. It’s definitely a challenging, intimidating and exciting experience. It’s all of those things.
You play an iconic hero in The Mandalorian, but who were your heroes when you were growing up?
I had so many heroes. I would have to say my parents are my obvious heroes for ushering in the introduction of so many heroes, either through cinema or literature. And I continue to add more and more people to the list. As a child, Indiana Jones was definitely my personal hero. And as I got older, I remember the writer James Baldwin really, really influenced my mind and my life. I introduced myself to his writing when I was around 19 years old and he has definitely been a hero to me.
How does it feel to be a Star Wars hero?
I think it’s a beautiful thing because I can see the effect of a show like this on the children of my friends. It isn’t anything like I’ve experienced before. I love to see the look on their face if their parents tell them, “This is the Mandalorian”. There’s usually some confusion at first, because there isn’t a lot of association to this face as far as the role is concerned – but they seem to understand that somebody needs to be behind the mask. It’s somebody’s voice and it’s somebody’s limbs. It’s a magical feeling to see children’s eyes light up like that. If only I could carry around the Child everywhere, then I would really be winning!
Tumblr media
Would definitely recommend buying the issue if you can, print or digital (via Zinio or any other platform), to show your support.

“I Don’t Trust the People Above Me”: Riot Squad Cops Open Up About Disastrous Response to Capitol Insurrection
by Joaquin Sapien and Joshua Kaplan Feb. 12, 2021
U.S. Capitol Police officers deploy pepper ball guns to defend the Capitol against rioters who breached the building on Jan. 6.
Interviews with 19 current and former officers show how failures of leadership and communication put hundreds of Capitol cops at risk and allowed rioters to get dangerously close to members of Congress.
The riot squad defending the embattled entrance to the west side of the U.S. Capitol was surrounded by violence. Rioters had clambered up the scaffolding by the stage erected for the inauguration of President Joseph Biden. They hurled everything they could get their hands on at the cops beneath: rebar, plywood, power tools, even cans of food they had frozen for extra damage.
In front of the cops, a mob was mounting a frontal assault. Its members hit officers with fists and baseball bats. They grabbed at weapons slung from the officers’ waists. They unleashed a barrage of M-80 firecrackers. Soaked in never-ending streams of bright orange bear spray, the officers choked on plumes of acrid smoke that singed their nostrils and obscured their vision.
One officer in the middle of the scrum, a combat veteran, thought the rioters were so vicious, so relentless, that they seemed fueled by methamphetamine. To his left, he watched a chunk of steel strike a fellow officer above the eye, setting off a geyser of blood. A pepper ball tore through the air over his shoulder and exploded against the jaw of a man in front of him. The round, filled with chemical irritant, ripped the rioter’s face open. His teeth were now visible through a hole in his cheek. Blood poured out, puddling on the pavement surrounding the building. But the man kept coming.
The combat veteran was hit with bear spray eight times. His experience overseas "was nothing like this,” he said. “Nothing at all.”
Over the last several weeks, ProPublica has interviewed 19 current and former U.S. Capitol Police officers about the assault on the Capitol. Following on the dramatic video of officers defending the building that House lawmakers showed during the first day of the impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, the interviews provide the most detailed account to date of a most extraordinary battle.
The enemies on Jan. 6 were Americans: thousands of people from across the country who had descended on the Capitol, intent on stopping Congress from certifying an election they believed was stolen from Trump. They had been urged to attend by Trump himself, with extremist right-wing and militia leaders calling for violence.
Many of the officers were speaking to reporters for the first time about the day’s events, almost all anonymously for fear of retribution. That they spoke at all is an indication of the depth of their frustration over the botched response. ProPublica also obtained confidential intelligence bulletins and previously unreported planning documents.
Combined, the information makes clear how failures of leadership, communication and tactics put the lives of hundreds of officers at risk and allowed rioters to come dangerously close to realizing their threats against members of Congress.
In response to questions for this story, the Capitol Police sent a one-sentence email: “There is a multi-jurisdictional investigation underway and in order to protect that process, we are unfortunately unable to provide any comment at this time.”
The interviews also revealed officers’ concerns about disparities in the way the force prepared for Black Lives Matter demonstrations versus the pro-Trump protests on Jan. 6. Officers said the Capitol Police force usually plans intensively for protests, even if they are deemed unlikely to grow violent. Officers said they spent weeks working 12- or 16-hour days, poised to fight off a riot, after George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police — even though intelligence suggested there was not much danger from protesters.
“We had intel that nothing was going to happen — literally nothing,” said one former official with direct knowledge of planning for the Black Lives Matter demonstrations. “The response was, ‘We don’t trust the intel.’”
By contrast, for much of the force, Jan. 6 began like any other day.
“We normally have pretty good information regarding where these people are and how far they are from the Capitol,” said Keith McFaden, a former Capitol Police officer and union leader who retired from the force following the riot. “We heard nothing that day.”
For the members of the riot squad who formed the first line of defense on the Capitol’s lower west terrace on Jan. 6, the lack of information could not have come with higher stakes.
Thrust into the most intense battle of the insurrection, the roughly two dozen officers bought lawmakers crucial time to scramble for safety. For about 100 heart-pounding minutes, they slipped and skidded across a stone surface slick with blood and bear spray, attempting to hold their ground against a rampaging mass of thousands.
To many of them, it felt like no one was in charge of the Capitol’s defense. All they could hear on the police radio were desperate cries for help.
At one point, the combat veteran was forced to stumble back from the line, his face so covered in bear spray he could barely see or breathe.
When he came to, a surge spilled over to his south. The crowd pushed over several bike racks. He realized the unfathomable had happened. His squad had lost the line; the mob could now enter the Capitol. There was no choice but to fall back. The officers stumbled over blood and debris until they were pressed against a limestone wall at the rear of the terrace. The mob had them cornered.
The officers, drained from their standoff, found a narrow staircase leading to an entrance of the building. But it could fit only one officer at a time. So they took turns climbing it as the crowd closed in, screaming obscenities and threatening murder.
“You fucking faggots!” one shouted. “You’re not even American!”
Waiting to climb the stairs, the combat veteran feared the worst. “This is where they’ll find my body,” he thought.

27 and 2021
It feels like I’m cheating a bit, only taking the time to reflect on the the successes I’ve had which are far between each, if I was reporting back on my failures, you’d be seeing posts daily.
It’s been a few years since my last post - so this is a good marker on the trails of my adventures, each checkpoint being a goal.
If I consider graduating uni, and landing my first real job outside of an internship my first two real milestones, then this would be my third. That six figure salary I was chasing for so long, I finally reached it when I was 26 (2020). It feels eerie reaching your milestone - in a way nothing changes and I know I still have a ways to go, but at the same time looking back it’s been significant progress.
Childhood me would be proud of myself. I have singlehandedly paid off my parents mortgage this December (2021), sacrificing $160k+ of my own savings over 4 years. I’ve never been able to see an entire pay check ever since I started working, but that has finally all changed.
A close friend once told me, our goal was to be a millionaire by the time we were 30. Maybe not in cash, but assets still count right? Hopefully be I’ll be in the market for my own house in December 2022.
I’ve made a lot of progress in my career thus far, but I’m at a crossroads. Do I enjoy the lofty perks of a stable job and comfortable income, or do I go even higher in my role and exchange in for a miserable no work life balance? I’ll sit on it for a bit and think about it for a while - currently things are going to plan.
I’ve realized for the last few years, I’ve focussed too much solely on my career like the typical ISTP Capricorn that I am, and haven’t really made progress on myself in other areas.
I am disappointed in my body composition as it seems like it hasn’t changed too much over the last few years, although COVID-19 lockdowns doing the most damage having me put on 6-10kgs, for a final weight of 74kg at the end of 2021. Gym has been maintenance only for the last few years with only 1 or 2 days a week at best. The mental part of the battle is the hardest. For sometime now, I’ve stopped tracking my macros, I would’ve been guilty at the start, but that feeling eventually evaporated. Upon reflection, this is not where I want to be. I’m not one for New Year resolutions, but this is a change I want to see in myself as I shift my focus away from progressing my career.
Since my last update in chronological order:
- Went to Singapore and Taiwan for a holiday at the end of 2019
- Had a year or two where I was flying to Sydney, Adelaide, Gold Coast and Brisbane almost weekly for work (I love the Velocity and Qantas Business Lounges!)
- California work trip for a previous company in Jan 2020
- Felt an earthquake in Melbourne in Sep 2021
- Finally listed the WRX STI for sale (only took me 3-4 years...)
While I journey onto my fourth major milestone, I hope to reconnect with old friends and make some new ones, learn some new things, pick up some new hobbies and hopefully travel.
Follow your dreams, give every opportunity a shot. If you fail, try and try again.

1/19/2021
I am so bored yet I have so much I could be doing. I have a paper due this weekend and tons of reading to do. But I have to go to the nanny job today and it’s taking all my energy to psych myself up for it. I only have to go on Tuesday and Thursday this week. Well today is Tuesday. I sincerely hope the 12 yr old is good today. I don’t have the energy to deal with his drama today.
TW: suicide (talk about the anniversary of my attempt)
10 days from now. Jan. 29th will be the 2 yr anniversary of my suicide attempt. Next Friday. That day changed my life. Going to bed that night, I didn’t expect that I would be alive in the morning. That changed when I got scared and told my Mom what I had done and I ended up in the ICU. After almost a year of EMDR I can think about it without crying now but sometimes it still takes my breath away. I can’t believe I did that. It scares me that I still struggle with SI on occasion. Last year on the anniversary I took the day off work and went out for a meal with my family (pre-pandemic). A celebration of how far I had come and a moment to mourn and reflect on what I had been through. This year I’m not sure what I want to do. I have ECT in the morning and then I have an appointment with my psychiatrist at 3pm (over the phone). I don’t want to do nothing. My psychiatrist told me about how one of her clients survived a suicide attempt and made the anniversary of that day to be almost like a birthday celebration. I don’t want to go that far but I do want to mark the day and reflect on where I am now. I’m trying hard not to get caught up in the ‘trauma’ of it all. The horror of that day and the days that followed. For almost a year after the attempt I couldn’t stop thinking about the attempt. They were intrusive thoughts that I could not stop. I am so grateful I have been able to move on with my life now but the intrusive thoughts about the attempt have gotten stronger in recent days, especially given my recent struggles with SI.
Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions on how I can mark the anniversary that would be appreciated. I don’t want it to be something too depressing or too celebratory. Something in between. Like I said above, a celebration of how far I’ve come but a moment to reflect on what I had been through. I hope this doesn’t sound too dramatic. I don’t mean to be a drama queen. It’s just that this day changed my life. It has significance for me.

A WEEK IN BRITAIN...
1. Boris Johnson announced a new 3 Tier lockdown system, with the lowest Tier being “medium”, like at McDonalds
2. As part of the announcement, the Chief Medical Officer reassuringly said the plan wouldn’t work
3. The govt said “in all cases, we are following the science”
4. It was revealed the SAGE science committee told the govt to lockdown weeks ago, but that bit of science wasn’t followed very far
5. SAGE went on to say the govt’s “world-beating” £12bn Test and Trace system was having only “a marginal impact on transmission rates”
6. Dido Harding, head of Seemingly Everything, said Test and Trace would be “local by default” and be “highly efficient”
7. She then handed £12bn to Serco, which is highly efficiently charging us £7360 per day for consultants. To trace Covid infections. Which they aren’t doing
8. Serco’s CEO is the brother of an ex-Tory MP. His partner is a Tory donor. Serco’s ex-head of PR is now a Tory Health Minister
9. If you feel all this is a bit corrupt, you can complain to the govt’s Anti-Corruption Champion, John Penrose, who is married to Dido Harding
10. Meanwhile an investigation by the Good Law Project found PPE suppliers owned by Tory donors or associates were paid 30% more per item than similar businesses globally. I'm talling you: John Penrose. He’s your fella. He’ll get to the bottom of it, fo shizzle
11. And only 34 days since the announcement of Boris Johnson’s "brainchild", the £100bn Operation Moonshot, it was quietly scrapped, along with (apparently) Boris Johnson’s brain and around 28% of his children
12. A Tory MP said Boris Johnson’s “personal skillset this doesn't play to this. He's not a details, manager type. He's a picture painter”. On the side of wine-boxes, mostly.
13. Another said “I think it's obvious this is a government happier picking fights than governing”
14. Another said Boris Johnson “prefers to get on with dog-walking” and “let’s Dominic do the work”
15. Chastened by reports local authorities were given only 5 minutes notice of previous lockdowns, this time the govt gave them ... 7 minutes notice of the meeting to discuss it
16. Except some MPs didn't even get that, and were only invited after the meeting had started
17. And the govt invited the MP for Sunderland, who had to inform them she was only of 3 Sunderland MPs. The govt was “surprised to be informed” of this
18. The dep Chief Medical Officer said the infection rate in the north “never dropped” meaning the relaxation of lockdown was at the expense of lives oop north
19. Then the govt said they would “devolve more decision-making” and “give more financial aid to local authorities”
20. But the aid is conditional on the "devolved" local authority doing what the govt wants, which is quite a novel a definition of "devolved"
21. So, following criticism, the govt briefed the press that it was going to consult more with regional govts
22. Literally 2 hours later, the govt briefed the press that Manchester was moving into Tier 3 restrictions. The Mayor of Manchester was not consulted (or even informed) about a decision he must implement, and which affects the largest city-region outside London.
23. A Tory MP, anxious about the lockdown affecting businesses over the party season, asked the PM “what can you tell us about Christmas”. Boris Johnson replied, “it’s a religious festival that’s been celebrated 2020 years”, which I’m sure helps us all
24. Matt Hancock insisted we all follow the science and adhere to the 10pm pub curfew that scientists say makes absolutely no improvement on infection rates
25. Then Matt Hancock broke that curfew, in a House of Commons bar
26. And then Matt Hancock said “The drinks are on me but Public Health England are in charge of payment methodology so I will not be paying anything”
27. In August, Public Health England was scrapped by [checks notes ] Matt Hancock
28. But prior to that, Tories imposed budget cuts of 5% to 10% on Public Health England for each of the previous 7 years
29. Unsurprisingly, it was reported that hospitals in the north of England would run out of beds within 7 days
30. The govt said "Hospital Trusts should consider cancelling all non-urgent treatments"
31. The govt then refused to drop fines it imposes on Hospital Trusts which cancel non-urgent treatments
32. So Matt Hancock announced the reopening of Nightingale Hospitals, which were closed last time because nobody could send patients to them, due to them not being staffed
33. They still aren’t staffed: Matt Hancock's' "urgent boost to nursing training" doesn’t start until 2021
34. Fortunately, the govt began a campaign to get ballerinas to retrain, and then scrapped the campaign 24 hours later
35. In June, Boris Johnson announced an "urgent" £1.57bn Arts Rescue Plan
36. A mere 127 days later, it "urgently" got around to paying out some of that money
37. And then Lord West reassuringly said, “we need to deal with migrants in a concentrated place, a camp or whatever”. He didn’t mention whether Arbeit Macht Frei, but it’s still only Thursday, and who can tell what the remainder of the week will bring?
38. Speaking of dates: 15th Oct, the absolute, immoveable deadline for trade talks that mighty, fearsome  Boris Johnson laid down to the cowed and quivering EU
39. Talks continue tomorrow. Because obviously, duuur
40. The Road Haulage Assoc pointed out we have only 1,668 of the 33,000 EU Haulage Permits we need on 1 Jan
41. Software to control our borders won’t be ready until 4 months after 1 Jan
42. And the govt is “still in the planning stage” of the “Kent Passports” we need on 1 Jan
43. And construction of Kent's “world’s largest lorry park” is behind schedule, so probably not ready on 1 Jan
44. Fortunately the govt is well-prepared, and plans to install 1000s of Portaloos in Kent, the garden of England, to be used by lorry drivers trapped in 2-day queues
45. And our food standards will still be fine, as Tory MP Nadhim Zahawi tweeted “Our manifesto was clear. We will not compromise our animal welfare and food standards”
46. He then voted to compromise our animal welfare and food standards, as did the rest of the Tory Party
47. And then govt used an obscure rule to deny MPs a vote on whether to allow chlorinated chicken
48. Meanwhile, 20 years after North Sea Cod became so overfished the WWF declared it “economically extinct”, Tory MPs voted to reduce protections designed to let fish stocks recover
49. So, after Brexit, our current plan is to accept tariffs that will destroy our manufacturing sector, and border delays that will destroy farming exports and imperil food supplies, and destroy the farming sector ... all so we can go and catch a fish that doesn’t exist
50. But at least we’ve now "got back control", and therefore we can level up the playing field by implementing the govt's landmark “digital tax” policy on giants such as Amazon
51. This week it was announced Amazon will be exempt from the digital tax
52. Speaking of tax exemptions, it was revealed Dominic Cummings has had a £30,000 council tax bill “written off” because he built the house illegally, so it doesn’t count as a real house, or summat. Sorry, my hurricane-force sarcasm briefly turned me more northern.
53. And on the subject of extreme dodgy dealing, let me direct your attention to Robert Jenrick, who set up the £3.6bn “Towns Fund” for the 101 most deprived town, and then gave the maximum grant of £25m to his own constituency, which is the 270th most deprived town

Biden Team Prepares $3 Trillion in New Spending for the Economy (NYT) President Biden’s economic advisers are pulling together a sweeping $3 trillion package to boost the economy, reduce carbon emissions and narrow economic inequality, beginning with a giant infrastructure plan that may be financed in part through tax increases on corporations and the rich. The enormous scope of the proposal highlights the aggressive approach the Biden administration wants to take as it tries to harness the power of the federal government to make the economy more equitable, address climate change, and improve American manufacturing and high-technology industries in an escalating battle with China.
Hugs, at last: Nursing homes easing rules on visitors (AP) An 88-year-old woman in Ohio broke down in tears as her son hugged her for the first time in a year. Nursing home residents and staff in California sang “Over the Rainbow” as they resumed group activities and allowed visitors back in. A 5-year-old dove into the lap of her 94-year-old great-great-aunt for a long embrace in Rhode Island. Nursing homes, assisted living facilities and other kinds of elderly residences battered by COVID-19 are easing restrictions and opening their doors for the first time since the start of the pandemic, leading to joyous reunions around the country after a painful year of isolation, Zoom calls and greetings through windows. The vaccination drive, improved conditions inside nursing homes, and relaxed federal guidelines have paved the way for the reunions.
Miami’s South Beach confronts disastrous spring break (AP) Florida’s famed South Beach is desperately seeking a new image. With more than 1,000 arrests and nearly 100 gun seizures already during this year’s spring break season, officials are thinking it may finally be time to cleanse the hip neighborhood of its law-breaking, party-all-night vibe. The move comes after years of increasingly stringent measures—banning alcohol from beaches, canceling concerts and food festivals—have failed to stop the city from being overrun with out-of-control parties and anything-goes antics. This weekend alone, spring breakers and pandemic-weary tourists drawn by Florida’s loose virus-control rules gathered by the thousands along famed Ocean Drive, at times breaking into street fights, destroying restaurant property and causing several dangerous stampedes. The situation got so out of hand that Miami Beach Police brought in SWAT teams to disperse pepper bullets and called in law enforcement officers from at least four other agencies. Ultimately, the city decided to order an emergency 8 p.m. curfew that will likely extend well into April after the spring break season is over. Some tourists are angry about the curfew, which they say has put a damper on long-sought vacations for which they paid good money. Meanwhile, some officials say they should have enacted more stringent measures sooner—as was done in New Orleans prior to Mardi Gras last month—instead of reacting in the middle of the chaos.
England slaps 5,000 pound fine on most travel abroad (Reuters) Fines of 5,000 pounds ($6,900) will be introduced for people from England who try to travel abroad before the end of June in a tightening of the country’s border controls. Health minister Matt Hancock said the government’s original plan to review international travel in April and possibly permit it from May 17 still stood but the travel fines were included in legislation in case that would not be possible. In the UK, foreign holidays are currently banned. Europe’s airlines and travel sector are now bracing for a second lost summer. Having already racked up billions in debt to survive a year of travel restrictions, they are facing further strain and some may need fresh funds.
Tensions mount between Afghan government, powerful warlord (AP) Tensions are mounting between Afghanistan’s government and a powerful local warlord, with deadly clashes erupting in a rural province between his fighters and government troops. The government has launched an assault in central Maidan Wardak province, vowing to punish the warlord, Abdul Ghani Alipoor, after the defense minister accused his fighters of shooting down a military helicopter last week, killing nine personnel. Alipoor holds widespread loyalty among ethnic Hazaras, a mainly Shiite community who are a minority in Afghanistan but make up most of the population in Maidan Wardak. If Kabul considers warlords as agents of turmoil, their supporters see them as their only protection and support in the face of a notoriously corrupt government and violent insurgents. Many Hazaras, who face attacks by Sunni militants and discrimination by the government, see Alipoor as a hero, defending them against the Taliban and keeping local institutions running. “The government is incompetent, so people depend on Alipoor and support him,” said Mohammed Jan. “Alipoor serves his people. If our government would serve the people, everyone would support it and there wouldn’t be any need for an Alipoor.”
China Makes It A Crime To Question Military Casualties On The Internet (NPR) When China acknowledged this year that four of its soldiers had died fighting Indian forces on the two countries’ disputed mountain border eight months prior, the irreverent blogger Little Spicy Pen Ball had questions. “If the four [Chinese] soldiers died trying to rescue their fellow soldiers, then there must have been those who were not successfully rescued,” he wrote on Feb. 19 to his 2.5 million followers on Weibo, a Chinese social media site. “This means the fatalities could not have just been four.” The day after, Qiu Ziming, the 38-year-old former newspaper journalist behind the blog, was detained and criminally charged. If convicted, he faces a sentence of up to three years. “Little Spicy Pen Ball maliciously slandered and degraded the heroes defending our country and the border,” according to the annual work report published by the country’s chief prosecutor office this month. Qiu’s is the first case to be tried under a sweeping new criminal law that took effect March 1. The new law penalizes “infringing on the reputation and honor of revolutionary heroes.” At least six other people have been detained or charged with defaming “martyrs.” The government uses the terms “revolutionary heroes” and “martyrs” for anyone it memorializes for their sacrifice for the Communist Party. The detentions typify the stricter controls over online speech under Chinese leader Xi Jinping, which have deterred nearly all open dissent in the country. The new law even seeks to criminalize speech made outside China. Such is the case of Wang Jingyu, 19, who lives in the United States and is now a wanted man in his hometown of Chongqing, China. The authorities accuse him of slandering dead Chinese soldiers after Weibo reported him for a comment questioning the number of border fight casualties. “Cyberspace is not outside the law,” the Chongqing public security bureau said in an online notice after it declared Wang would be “pursued online” for his comments.
West sanctions China over Xinjiang abuses, Beijing hits back at EU (Reuters) The United States, the European Union, Britain and Canada imposed sanctions on Chinese officials on Monday for human rights abuses in Xinjiang, the first such coordinated Western action against Beijing under new U.S. President Joe Biden. Beijing hit back immediately with punitive measures against the EU that appeared broader, including European lawmakers, diplomats, institutes and families, and banning their businesses from trading with China. Western governments are seeking to hold Beijing accountable for mass detentions of Muslim Uighurs in northwestern China, where the United States says China is committing genocide. China denies all accusations of abuse.
Australian floods (AFP) Devastating flooding is ongoing across Australia, where an area the size of Alaska with some 10 million people is at risk for excessive rainfall and storminess. The flooding comes amid colliding weather systems gripping the country. Up to 35 inches of rain fell in just four days, and some places are seeing their worst flooding in 60 years. Nearly three times the average March rainfall has fallen in a number of locales, which Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology described as “phenomenal,” with additional rain and flooding expected in the days ahead.
Israel TV satirist says grateful to politicians but needs a break (AFP) As Israel heads into its fourth election in two years, the presenter of the country’s favourite satirical TV show has a request, and he’s only half joking. “I would like us to finally have a stable government and make a boring programme,” says Eyal Kitsis, frontman of the Channel 12 show “Eretz Nehederet” (“A Wonderful Country”). As much as Israel’s political turmoil may be straining the patience of the electorate, it has been television gold because “reality is crazy”, Kitsis told AFP. “Elections and politics have really become entertainment in this country. Our challenge as a satirical programme is to add a layer to it, to take it to the next level.”
Israel vote deadlock: Netanyahu appears short of majority (AP) Uncertainty hovered over the outcome of Israel’s parliamentary election Wednesday, with both Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and sworn political rivals determined to depose him apparently lacking a clear path to a governing coalition. Deadlock in the 120-seat parliament was a real possibility a day after the election, which had been dominated by Netanyahu’s polarizing leadership. With about 87.5% of the vote counted by Wednesday morning, Netanyahu’s Likud party and its ultra-Orthodox and far-right allies fell short of a 61-seat majority.
Saudi Arabia offers cease-fire plan to Yemen rebels (AP) Saudi Arabia on Monday offered a cease-fire proposal to Yemen’s Houthi rebels that includes reopening their country’s main airport, the kingdom’s latest attempt to halt years of fighting in a war that has sparked the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. The move comes after the rebels stepped up a campaign of drone and missile attacks on the kingdom’s oil sites, briefly shaking global energy prices amid the coronavirus pandemic. It also comes as Riyadh tries to rehabilitate its image with the U.S. under President Joe Biden. Saudi Arabia has drawn internationally criticism for airstrikes killing civilians and embargoes exacerbating hunger in a nation on the brink of famine. Whether the plan will take hold remains another question. A unilaterally declared Saudi cease-fire collapsed last year. Fighting rages around the crucial city of Marib and the Saudi-led coalition launched airstrikes as recently as Sunday targeting Yemen’s capital of Sanaa. A U.N. mission said another suspected airstrike hit a food-production company in the port city of Hodeida.
Rail and derailments (Vice) Freight rail is an essential vein of the transportation system in the U.S., moving 57 tons of goods per American each year. It’s also the safest way to move hazardous materials, but freight train derailments are more common than one might think: in 2019, there were 341 reported derailments on main line track, of which 24 were freight trains carrying 159 cars of hazardous materials. The labor unions in the rail industry have been calling this out as a symptom of a degrading safety culture, and warn that it’s only a matter of time before one of those derailments causes catastrophic damages.

Joe Biden: Inauguration Jan 20, 2021
* * * *
LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
January 20, 2021
Heather Cox Richardson
“Where can we find light in this never-ending shade?” America’s 22-year-old poet laureate Amanda Gorman asked today as she spoke at the inauguration of the 46th president of the United States: Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr.
For the past four years we have lived under an administration that advanced policies based on bullying; a fantasy of a lost, white, Christian America; and disinformation. We have endured the gutting of our government as the president either left positions empty or replaced career officials with political operatives, corruption, the rise of white supremacists into positions of power, the destruction of our international standing, an unchecked pandemic that has led to more than 400,000 deaths from Covid-19, an economic crash, and unprecedented political polarization.
“And yet the dawn is ours before we knew it,” Gorman reminded us.
That light was us.
In these terrible years, our politicians often failed us… but the American people did not. Our national guardrails often failed us… but the American people did not. Many of our neighbors often failed us, but the American people did not.
Beginning on January 21, 2017, when women marched on Washington in the largest single-day protest in American history and dwarfed the new president’s inauguration numbers of the previous day, more and more of us worked together to keep the dream of American democracy alive. Last November, more than 81 million of us braved the coronavirus pandemic and voter suppression to reject a divisive president who seemed bent on turning our nation into an oligarchy. By more than 7 million votes, we elected Democrats Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to take the highest offices in the land.
Today, President Biden and Vice President Harris took their oaths of office in a ceremony that was sparsely attended because of the pandemic, in a city that was locked down out of concerns of violence from those who tried just two weeks ago to overturn the election.
Trouble, either in Washington, D.C., or in state capitals across the nation, did not materialize. Over the past two weeks, law enforcement officers have tracked down and arrested the people who stormed the Capitol on January 6, and the realization that committing federal crimes brings consequences might have taken some of the wind out of rioters’ sails. Today, one of the riot’s organizers, Joseph Biggs of the far-right Proud Boys, was arrested in Florida. For their part, the Proud Boys have turned on the former president, calling him “extraordinarily weak” for leaving office, and “a total failure.”
Kamala Harris took the oath first today, becoming the first woman, the first Black person, and the first person of South Asian heritage to become a vice president. She was dressed in purple in honor of Shirley Chisholm, the seven-term New York Representative who was the first Black woman elected to the United States Congress and who ran for president in 1972. Chisholm used the colors purple and yellow in her campaign, and Harris picked them up for her own presidential bid.
Biden came next.
After taking the oath, Biden delivered an inaugural address that was not simply the call for unity that he has been making for the past year. It was a call for Americans to come together to rebuild America, one that echoed that of President John F. Kennedy in 1961, when he told us: “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”
Biden recalled the Civil War, the Great Depression, the World Wars, and the attacks of 9/11, noting that “[i]n each of these moments, enough of us came together to carry all of us forward.” He urged today’s Americans to do the same in what he called “a time of testing” that brings together great crises: “an attack on our democracy and on truth. A raging virus, growing inequity, the sting of systemic racism, a climate in crisis.”
“Are we going to step up, all of us?” he asked. “It’s time for boldness, for there is so much to do. And this is certain. I promise you, we will be judged, you and I, by how we resolve these cascading crises of our era…. Will we master this rare and difficult hour?”
If we do, he said, “we shall write an American story of hope, not fear. Of unity, not division. Of light, not darkness. An American story of decency and dignity. Of love and of healing. Of greatness and of goodness…. The story that tells ages yet to come that we answered the call of history. We met the moment. That democracy and hope, truth and justice, did not die on our watch but thrived.”
After the ceremony, the new president and vice president and their spouses visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, and then Biden headed to the Oval Office. "I thought there's no time to wait. Get to work immediately," he said.
Biden began the process of signing more than a dozen executive actions, most of which either take us back to where we were four years ago or address the coronavirus pandemic. The executive orders will enable the United States to rejoin the World Health Organization and the Paris Climate Accords, and revoke new oil and gas development at national wildlife monuments. They reverse Trump’s own order not to count undocumented immigrants in the census, and call for a path to citizenship for the “Dreamers,” about a million undocumented immigrants brought here as children. Biden ended the travel ban that restricted travel from Muslim-dominated countries, one of his predecessor’s signature issues. He also stopped border wall construction.
Biden established a mask mandate on federal property and by federal employees, and reorganized government coordination on the coronavirus response. He revoked his predecessor’s limits on diversity and inclusion training and took down the partisan 1776 Report that attacked progressives and whitewashed our history that was issued just two days ago.
Tonight, Press Secretary Jen Psaki held her first press briefing. She began by saying: "I have deep respect for the role of a free and independent press in our democracy and for the role all of you play," then went on to answer questions. She will hold another press conference tomorrow, saying that Biden wants to bring truth and transparency back.
“Somehow we’ve weathered and witnessed a nation that isn’t broken, but simply unfinished,” Amanda Gorman said today. And then, she concluded her inaugural poem with a reminder of the lesson that many of us have learned over the last four years: “[T]here is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it.”

Hiring local builders can really make the difference when it comes to getting your dream home up on the market. Local builders have expert knowledge about the neighborhood, which can greatly enhance your home-building process. trusted-builders find a builder fleet app have specific expertise with the local economy, the local geography, the weather, and the local community, which all translate into an even better finished building experience for you. Building in your local area is also cost effective, especially when compared to building out in the suburbs. Imagine, not only paying a premium to contractors because you live out in the country, but paying even more to local builders just to get an accurate quote on your home project. If you hire local builders, you are actually saving money on both your bids and labor costs, which will translate to more of your hard-earned dollars going back into your pocket.

Are the local builders licensed and insured? Ask for their professional indemnity insurance. Professional indemnity insurance protects your investment. It is important that you know that any complaints regarding the building process or completed homes can be properly addressed. In https://hampshire.trusted-builders.co.uk/ , the cost of the claim can often be covered by insurance, so you do not lose out if a claim is filed against you.
Another big reason to hire a local builder is their knowledge of the building process. Even if you're going with a national home builder, you still have to figure out how the house will fit in with your neighborhood. A local builder knows exactly what kinds of designs fit best with your neighborhood, as well as where certain features will need to be tweaked. Also, these kinds of builders are more familiar with the local building codes and zoning regulations that you must abide by in your region. This familiarity gives them the ability to save you time and money on any issues that come up during the building process, whether it's a permit you need for construction, zoning changes you need to apply for, or a change in the way the house sits upon the property.
Caine Building And Construction.
What are the building timelines for the new homes, the company is currently producing? Many local builders offer on-site pre-construction services at no additional charge. This often includes the removal of existing structures, foundation prep work, landscaping, paint, roofing, electrical work and doors and windows. These services will help ensure that the entire new home design and construction process go smoothly from start to finish. Be sure to ask what services are included and what timelines are recommended for the completion of your new home.

Does the builder offer a homeowner warranty program? A warranty program from a builder is a great way to get additional peace of mind that you have purchased a quality product. A reputable builder will work hard to make sure that they deliver on their promises and provide you with a warranty that lasts for years. It is also wise to choose local builders that offer some sort of homeowner satisfaction program.
Building Grad
So why should you hire local builders rather than go with a national home builder? One huge reason is competition. While national home builders all want to be in your particular region, local builders only want to do business with you if they believe they are going to earn a profit from doing so. This means that every time they build a new home, they are going to try to undercut their competitors, whether you are a buyer or a seller. Since buyers tend to demand the lowest prices possible, you will always have your choice when it comes to home builders in your area.

What is the average cost for custom homes manufactured in your local area by a national home builder? Pricing for new custom homes is based on many factors. One of these factors is the location of your proposed home. Certain areas may be more or less expensive than other locations depending on where your home will be built. In addition, national home builders typically have lower overhead expenses than local builders.
How many custom homes are currently in production and available to purchase? Each local builder will have a unique portfolio of homes they are currently constructing. Some builders specialize in residential homes, while others build complete custom communities. Determine how many residential homes they currently produce and if they plan on expanding their portfolio in the near future. This information will give you a good idea of how committed they are to making your dream home a reality.
Tumblr media
Another reason is that these builders get to know their clients and customers by heart. Building relationships are a key part of any successful real estate agent's job, but it's even trickier for home buyers. These builders spend so much time getting to know the people who look at their homes that they can practically feel their way around any situation. They know what questions to ask, where to take a customer reference, and how to respond to potential problems or concerns. It makes them far more likely to recommend your home to friends and family, because they feel good about their recommendations.

TERMINAL REPORT.
Gross Domestic Product
The Philippine’s GDP plummeted the moment the pandemic hit the third world country. The pandemic did not give mercy to the domestic demand, tourism, trade and manufacturing all together. Last year was a sudden burden to the government official as they quickly put the whole country on a lockdown leaving all the demands for GDP on hold. And with the continuous quarantine as well as incompetent government the GDP is bound to get lower as months will pass by unless some magic will make it turn around but of course that would be impossible. How did the recession of the GDP come to be? Firstly, The pandemic came without warning and as much as the people say, the Philippines was not prepared. With that in mind, we can easily assume that the government did not plan through how to save the market demand, tourism, manufacturing and trade. The importance of being able to keep the COVID cases to a minimum was the main priority even to the Philippines and as much as we want to deny it GDP was in the “Important but not as important in making the country safe.” According to the National Economic and Development Authority the Philippines lost P1.1 trillion or 5.6 percent of GDP in the first 45 days of ECQ. It took at least 3 months or so to let other workers do their jobs as it is one way to retrieve the lost GDP we had. Few months later, the government took the rescission of the GDP and planned to reverse the damage. They tried to reopen some businesses in hopes to lessen the burden. Trade has been slow as all countries are still facing the horrendous virus but tourism slowly opened up with great caution as tourism means a lot of people. The government tried their best to at least overthrow the problem with the GDP. Now, according to Asian Development Bank, the Philippines will probably make a rebound on 2021’s GDP as the economy of the Philippines is significantly slow. However, ADB projected that the country will get at least 6.5% of their lost GDP assuming that COVID-19 infections in the country are curbed by June this year. Until today, the Philippines are taking precautionary measures as well as slowly taking steps to reclaim the lost GDP due to the unexpected pandemic. There are currently a lot of projects that focus on the overall reclaiming of GDP and hopefully this will be a jumpstart to help the country. And with this in mind, I do hope the government will act fast and does not dilly dally as time cannot save the country, the sluggish economic recovery will always be blamed by the government as we paid them for making the country safe, protected and well. It is afterall what they signed up for when they decided to be a part of the political standpoint. And with the president's estimated GDP growth for 2021 would settle between 6.5% and 7.5%, and hit the 8% to 10% range in 2022 then they better act quickly.
General Price Level
With the overall Pandemic issue around the world and especially in the Philippines, it is not an excuse that the country would also experience an issue with regards to the overall general prices. Now, we would assume that the prices would also rise as the pandemic continues but the government tried to lessen this problem as the country folks could not afford another sudden rise of the price. What the government did was to lessen the consumption of each household, in that manner a price won’t go above what was originally planned as well as to lessen the panic within the people. The good during the first month or so of the Pandemic, food sources were scarce and everyone started to panic. Let’s use canned goods as an example, before pandemic arises one canned good was sold around 20 pesos or so. When news of the ongoing virus was spreading, prices of some goods were rising but not to the point where people go barbaric and considering that canned goods are essential to a daily life, it rose to around 30 pesos per canned good. When the official finally understood the dangers of the virus, everything went on panic. Stores were closed, no one could buy anything and everything was not in order. The overall price of the consumed goods in the Philippines skyrocketed and that’s mainly because the government did not expect the virus to be deadly. It almost took the country about 3 or so months to keep the problems at bay. Currently the consumer index is slowly regaining its lost percentage. But nothing is for sure as the Pandemic is quite unpredictable and considering the incompetence of the government official we might be dealing with a backlash when it comes to the general prices. Currently the goods we got outside the Philippine area are limited, flights for international are on hold because of the large covid cases just within the Philippines. The overall consumption of the Philippines as well as the Investment, the net exports and government spending are on thin ice in a way that because of the virus the usual move of the consumption, investment, net exports and government spending have been disrupt and no one can really tell when all of these will go back to normal or will it ever go back to normal. But as far as the people of the Philippines, if things do not turn for the better we will surely be experiencing a terrible war just within ourselves. Though currently minimizing the overall cases of the virus is top priority while battling the financial crisis that upholds the country at the same time as they are related to one another. A fall in the financial upholdings is also a fall in winning over the virus. One cannot lose as they are the only thing that still holds together the battles of the country.
Money Supply
Money supply of the Philippines continues to circulate every single day. According to Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas there about 4.1 billion pieces of notes valued at PHP 1.7 trillion and 34.9 billion pieces of coins valued at PHP46. 3 billion in circulation as of 31 July 2020 and this excludes commemorative notes and coins. Based on the Data that was gathered, the lowest/ minimum Money Supply/ M1 is around 2,553.536 ( Jan 1989) while the maximum is around 113,592.621 ( Dec 2020). As money supply is constantly updated every month, in March just when the Quarantine started there was an estimation of 94.141.745 and it rose as the quarantine stayed. Money supply circulated fast because of the Pandemic. Pandemic really disrupts the financial system of the Philippines and one of them is the money supply of the said country. Because of Quarantine a lot of the household began to sell out their assets as well as circulate a lot of money fast as some of the household feared that it would fail them in the succeeding days. Under consumption, each household decided to buy future necessity in fears that it would be gone in a flash (cash circulated). Under Investments, A lot of stocks were pulled out for future consumption and because they feel like these stocks would be useless in the future upbringing (assets circulating) and because of people pulling out, the stocks plummeted so bad that a lot of stocks were so cheap. Under government spending, government officials stood some hospitals, facilities as well as buying vaccines and for research purposes and such a lot of money was spent (cash circulating). Under Net exports, a lot of international goods/flights were cancelled in fear of adding more cases around the world but considering that online shopping became a trend a lot of materials came outside the Philippines (cash circulating). In conclusion, Assets circulated big enough because of the unexpected hit of the pandemic and just like that at the end of the year 2020 it garnered around 113,592.621mn making it one of the maximum money supply in the Philippines. Currently as of this month, the money supply has lowered not by much but a considerable amount. The circulation of money has been skyrocketing by a large amount. This has affected the business cycle and has greatly affected the economy by lots. And this estimation is still based on the M1and this alone has a great impact on the ever changing economy of the Philippines. And we will never be certain when will the effect of the abnormal rising and falling of all the charts of the financial sector of the Philippines will return to normal but as far as the quarantine is still ongoing, as far as the COVID cases still ongoing and as far as the government still stalling the real problem of the country it would take a long time to recover back from the original state.

Top 5 Writings 2020
So, I’ve posted a lot of writing this year. I’ve posted one chapter a week since 1 January, 2020, and haven’t missed a single week. On top of that, I’ve posted a few stories in between uploads, as well as doing daily uploads throughout the month of December.
With all this, I decided to go back through and find my 5 favorite pieces from this year, and reflect a little as to why I enjoy them so much. #1 will be my absolute favorite piece of this year, and I’ll be going in ascending order (so #5 first, #4 second, and so on).
#5 ~ Lasting Injuries ~ Who Killed Markiplier? ~ 13 Feb, 2020
Summary: Damien always has a cane in his hand, and although most don't realize it, the ornate object isn't just for show.
So, this story was spawned by a couple of things back in February. I injured my knee roughly 8 (almost 9) years ago, when I was in middle school, and since then have dealt with knee pain off and on (up until just recently, when I finally went to Physical Therapy, which helped to strengthen and stabilize my right knee and hip), which at the time of writing this, was acting up and resulting in pain. On top of this, I’ve had a personal HC that Damien carries a cane in WKM not only for show as the Mayor, but because he actually needs it.
I still really enjoy this story, partly as a self-indulgent thing for my HC concerning Damien’s cane, and partly because it was just fun to write something that served to even more closely connect Damien and Dark as characters (despite, y’know, Damien literally being part of Dark).
#4 ~ Beginnings ~ Markiplier Egos ~ 1 Jan, 2020 - 15 April, 2020
Summary: With so many different personalities within the manor, the question can arise of just how they all ended up under one roof. Some were brought by opportunity, some by tragedy, some by fate. Every story starts somewhere, after all.
This was the first story I posted this year, and dear god, I can’t believe its actually been that long since Chapter 1 of this went up. The series this is the start to is on hiatus, since I kinda burnt out on the Ego works, but I do really like this story overall. This was the story that got be uploading weekly, and I just enjoyed coming up with how all the Egos would have ended up at the manor. It also helped me work on developing my writing a bit, especially when it comes to writing shorter, more contained stories, since each chapter is connected, but also serves sort of as a oneshot of its own.
#3 ~ Games ~ Sanders Sides ~ 12 Dec, 2020
Summary: Patton decided that all the Sides should have a game night. Logan uses it as a chance to come out.
One of my favorite Sanders Sides HCs is that Logan is Agender. This was a fun little fill, where I got to write the six main Sides all playing some good ole’ Two Truths and A Lie (with special consideration made for the fact Janus is a Living Lie Detector).
This is one of my favorite stories not just because I love the Agender Logan HC, but also because I actually came out as Genderfluid back at the very start of June of this year. Like Logan, I knew I had an accepting family, but coming out like that is still nerve-wracking, and it was interesting to look back at my own experience while writing this roughly 6 months after coming out.
#2 ~ Intense Emotions ~ Sanders Sides ~ 11 Oct, 2020
Summary: Virgil and Roman are excited to tell Logan and Patton about the day Thomas had at the mall. Patton, Logan, and Roman all learn something new about their favorite emo. Logan and Virgil find they have something in common.Janus is just glad to see Virgil so happy.
I wrote this the day after Flirting With Social Anxiety came out, and we got Virgil with glittery purple eyeshadow and confirmation that Roman, Virgil, and Character!Thomas all stim when excited. I just really wanted to write stimmy Sides content, okay?
I also projected a little bit in this one... I have ADHD, this isn’t something that I really hide (I’ve reblogged quite a few ADHD related posts, and it’s pretty clear that I tend to hyperfixate on certain things), and like many people who are neuro-divergent (and many people in general, neuro-typical or otherwise), I tend to stim, especially when I get happy or excited.
I was taught to suppress my stimming as a kid, and I also just don’t want to be distracting or anything like that. Logan and Virgil both do the same; Logan wants to be taken seriously, and neither one of them wants to distract the others. It’s something I’ve been working on (and something Logan and Virgil are working on, too).
#1 ~ Chaos is Normal (For Us, at Least) ~ Sanders Sides ~ 26 Aug, 2020 - 20 Jan, 2021
Summary: Life can easily become chaotic. This is especially true for teenagers and secret agents. When Logan and their team were assigned a mission listed by their agency as "High Priority; High Danger", they didn't realize just how dangerous it would turn out to be. When Patton and Emile make a pair of new friends, they don't realize just what they'll be getting into. For all parties involved, chaos is just a part of life. It's normal. For them, at least.
This is 100% my favorite thing I’ve written this year (and possibly my favorite of all my stories, up to this point). I’m a sucker for Spy/Secret Agent AU stuff, honestly.
This story has Agender Logan, Trans Janus, Genderfluid Emile, and Nonbinary Remus, along with ADHD Creativitwins, and honestly, I’m very happy I got all of those concepts in.
Now, this story isn’t complete just yet, Chapter 19 (my favorite chapter, by far) went up yesterday (30 Dec, 2020). There’s still 3 chapters to go up, and plenty more for the Chaos is Normal universe as a whole, since I have a prequel centering around Logan and Remy, and a sequel centering around all the teens, both in the works, along with a few oneshots.
This story was just overall a ton of fun to write, and the response has been amazing. This is one of just two stories I’ve posted to break 1,000 hits over on Ao3 (the other being Beginnings, actually). There’s a handful of oneshots already in the collection, too, since a few of the December prompt fills actually ended up taking place in this universe, and I think they’re all really cute.
=============================================================
And, that’s it! My Top 5 Writings from this year! I’m really proud of all these pieces, and generally proud of myself for managing to post every week this year, and then some.
I’m also incredibly thankful for all the support I’ve been getting on my writing, I really do appreciate all the Hits, Kudos, Comments, Likes, and Reblogs I’ve gotten on my works.
Without a doubt, I’ll be continuing to write, and we’ll see what I come up with in 2021.
