Hello!
I liked your post about Anne de Bourgh probably just being sick, and another question came to my mind with regard to her.
I am quite astonished to see, that in a lot of JAFF, when he can't get Elizabeth, Darcy marries Anne de Bourgh. Usually there is some hidden motivation behind that: for example she is pregnant and he wants to save her reputation, or he wants to give her an opportunity to escape from Lady Catherine (relying on the non-canon assumption, that Anne is suffering under her mother's care) etc. For me it is a big question whether Darcy would marry her under any circumstances, and I am curious to hear your opinion about that. I always love your thoughtful answers!
Thanks
This question is in reference to this post.
As a general rule, I think that if Darcy meant to marry Anne de Bourgh, he would have already done it. So no, I don't think he'd marry her.
Anne's age is unclear, but the cradles line implies that she and Darcy are close in age, which is around twenty-eight. That isn't terribly old for Darcy, but it is for Anne if she's expecting to produce some children. I do think Anne being around Darcy's age makes sense, because it makes Lady Catherine more desperate. She's probably been previously thinking to herself, "Darcy is enjoying his youth, lots of time to marry" but now the deadline is feeling near and she's starting to wonder when Darcy will do his duty... (because obviously he's not going to squelch on her, right? RIGHT?)
Often I'll see in JAFF Darcy giving up on love after Elizabeth and marrying Anne out of duty, but that seems out of character to me. There are lots of women out there, I feel like Darcy would just try again. He's only twenty-eight, he can find someone else he loves! I really think that before he met Elizabeth at Pemberley, he was planning on doing just that. He thought it was over.
As for saving Anne from her mother, which I don't think is a real concern, there are other ways to do that if Darcy really thought it was a problem. He could invite Anne for a visit to Pemberley or his house in London. He could talk to his uncle, who would have more standing to talk to his sister about it. But it's unlikely he would see this as his duty or even as something he interfere with. Lady Catherine is Anne's mother, he is the nephew, it's not his place. Those hierarchies were very important in that era.
If Anne were pregnant or something... this one bothers me so much! It's SO OUT OF CHARACTER! Darcy cares about Pemberley, he would not want some random kid as his possible heir! If he has already rejected Anne as a suitable wife, why would he accept her now that she is "ruined"? If he really cares about Anne, he could find her a suitable husband with his money, power, and connections, he doesn't have to marry her himself. And again, this isn't his problem. This is Lady Catherine's responsibility.
(Not to mention how freaking misogynistic it is for JAFF to imply that Lady Catherine is so incompetent that Darcy has to help her run her estate. Women can run their own freaking estates!!!)
So to sum up: No, Darcy would not marry Anne, under any circumstances. Maybe if Lady Catherine kidnapped Georgiana and held her for ransom. (Don't write that, I beg of you)

I’ll share more in the coming weeks but for now… a quick glimpse at my new cover, which I’m genuinely obsessed with.

New cover!
A modern Pride and Prejudice Variation... Fitzwilliam Darcy falls madly in love with the vivacious and clever Elizabeth Bennet. After a few shots of tequila, he declares his affections for her. It is a disaster. Elizabeth resoundingly rejects him. But…it’s late, they're alone and slightly intoxicated. They sleep together. Now Darcy has everything…and nothing. He is having sex with Elizabeth and while he falls more desperately in love each day, she still hates him. It is the beginning of a secret, sensual, complicated liaison, wherein each plays a cruel game; Darcy because he is hiding his passion and growing despair, Elizabeth because she is feeling lost. As Darcy gets more hopeless, and Elizabeth tries to deny her budding feelings, another man begins to vie for her affections… Note from the author: As you may gather from the premise, this is neither a sweet nor clean tale. Nevertheless, Games of Love and Cruelty is also not erotica. The story is deeply romantic, and the depictions of sex are not too graphic or explicit.

Jane Austen Fanfiction Recommendation
A Wilful Misunderstanding by Amy D'Orazio | 4.5/5 stars
Pairings: Elizabeth Bennet/Fitzwilliam Darcy (Primary); Jane Bennet/Charles Bingley (Minor); Lydia Bennet/OC (Minor)
Rating: Mature. There are some references to sexuality, as well as several sensual scenes between a married couple.
Summary: Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy have a whirlwind romance that leads them to marry less than two months after they meet. Their joy is unmatched and full until they travel to London to enjoy the entertainments of the Season. External machinations lead Mr. Darcy to separate himself from his wife and set her aside at a removed country estate. Tragic misunderstandings lead to even more tragic circumstances, resulting in an enduring struggle to find their way back to each other, both physically and emotionally.
Read This Fic: This fic is free with a Kindle Unlimited subscription, or it is available for purchase: https://www.amazon.com/Wilful-Misunderstanding-Pride-Prejudice-Variation-ebook/dp/B08FZ4S23L
[SPOILERS and TAGS BELOW]
Tags: Regency Era, Canon Divergence, Angst, Hurt and Comfort, Misunderstandings, Miscommunication, Earn Your Happy Ending, HEA, Marriage, Marital strife, Marital Separation, Discussions of Infidelity, Mental Illness, Depression, Parenthood, Pregnancy, Childbirth, Forgiveness, Not safe to read if you are triggered by pregnancy, Loss of virtue, Discussions of fallen women, Ramsgate never happened
My Impressions: This fic was beautifully written and incredibly impactful. It explores and complicates several things that I love about regency-era stories, such as legal duties of wives to their husbands, beliefs that women and children were property, and the dangers of love matches and matches of convenience. There is also a complex emotional interplay between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy that I find very compelling. The only reason that this fic is not five stars is that the miscommunication/misunderstanding that occurs between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy seems somewhat contrived to me. I confess that I had to stretch my imagination to believe that it could happen. That said, the somewhat unbelievable nature of the miscommunication only makes the fallout of the realization more intense and fraught.
Notes on Characterization: Elizabeth is somewhat out of character in this fic in that she spends much of the story very sad, angry, and depressed due to her circumstances. Mr. Darcy starts off the story very out of character, but considering that Ramsgate never happened, it is at least somewhat believable. His characterization becomes better as the story moves along. Caroline Bingley is relegated to being an insufferable shrew intent on ruining everyone's happiness, which is pretty common in JAFF. There are some really delightful original characters in this story, however, especially Viscount Saye and Mrs. Macy. Characterization gets a 4/5 stars.

Jane Austen Quote
Evie! Thanks for this awesome @galladrabbles prompt.
Previously, on No Sleep 'Til Nashville, Mickey stripped and challenged Ian to do the same.
-----
In this game of chicken, Mickey was winning.
Ian gulped. It was only fair, right? Mickey needed to see his body for their boyfriend charade to work.
Ian peeled off his jeans. His t-shirt, going slow and begging all his parts to stay chill.
Mickey never broke eye contact.
Ian slid his boxers down, breathless.
“Patriot tattoo. Boobs tattoo.” Mickey nodded. “Carpet matches the drapes. Uh-huh.”
How could Mickey stay so calm when he was tearing Ian’s nerves to pieces?
Mickey stepped within touching distance. “Only one more question, hot shot.”
“What’s that?”
“How good of an actor are you?”

Is there a fan fic of Crowley, Aziraphale and Jane Austen? How they interacted with her? How they came to know her and those very different sides of her? I need that! Or do I have to write it myself? Or are we hoping it comes up in season 3? 😄

My live thoughts while watching Netflix’s Movie Fic of Persuasion by Jane Austen:
What is going on in this opening?? Why are they so close? Is this when she broke it off?
I guess the voice over helps set the scenes? Cuz Netflix wants a quick exposition
“Shame there wasn’t anything nice we could think to add about you, Anne…I wanted to leave you out entirely but Daddy thought people might think you had died.” Ok so Elizabeth is really leaning into the whole ‘who needs Anne anyways’ aspect here. A bit rude tho
DEBT COLLECTORS?!?
Diversity points for casting I guess [edit: visual racial diversity]
“What good is anything if you have to earn it?” Ok, Sir Walter also leaning into his snobbishness, also ruder than I remember
THEY REMEMBERED THE WRONG BROTHER
Dakota Johnson’s hair bangs are annoying me and I’m not even 10 minutes in
Did she have a box full of stuff in the book?!? I don’t remember that at all.
SHE SHOULD HAVE NO HOPE FOR WENTWORTH (to admit to) AT THIS POINT
Mrs Clay’s use of numbers brought me completely out of the story
Good scene of them leaving for Bath with out Anne (until the fourth wall break)
Just realized: no one mentioned a lack of children makes a wife the best tenant
Mrs Croft speaks of her trips early (also why is Anne there to greet them??)
The script is dropping a lot of “hope” but not any “agony” (edit: there was no more dropping after this)
Mary doesn’t know about Captain Wentworth
Why is Louisa pushing Anne towards Wentworth?
Is ‘Empath’ even in the British Regency vocabulary?
Oh no the window scene
She did it *physically recoils*
Ew the gravy boat too
How are these houses so close? That had to be fake right? Anne only imagined yelling his Christian name across the way? Right?
Anne insults Captain Wentworth upon first re-meeting? That was so awkward. And wrong. I like the awkward silence of the book so much more
Ok musical chairs is so wrong. They have ASSIGNED SEATING and are there no servants to help Anne sit?
Wentworth is not as pretty as I had thought. I want my Blond Wentworth from 2007
Did she really just say ‘Charles wanted to marry me first’? That is so Not something Anne would ever say. Ever. I’m skipping this part.
Why is she upset with Mary for telling this ‘Blackbeard’ story? She literally just insulted her sisters Marriage the previous scene
Is Henrietta dancing with a servant?
Wentworth and Louisa dancing is supposed to channel PaP 05 right? No? Idc it’s weird
The “is this your chair” interaction would’ve been better screen time than the last four things I noted
Why is she begging him to love her? That is not what Anne does. She reflects that he must be moved on and silently tries to convince herself to be okay with that.
“Für Elise” was specific so I paused to google it; it was composed in 1810 but not published until being found in 1867–40 years after Beethoven died. Wikipedia
33 minutes in
After the conversation in the woods I really think they should have just made a modern adaptation of Persuasion. Same cast (they might even be more comfortable) practically the same script. (Tho Anne should still be Fixed.)
Anne is never rude to peoples faces
I honestly never noticed anyone picking up on the past between Anne and Captain Wentworth in the book. Why does everyone seem to Know?
Who is Henry Hayter?
“Households employing fewer than five servants…” blah blah.. and remind me, who helped Anne sit at dinner?
IS ANNE GOING TO THE BATHROOM ON SCREEN?!?
IS WENTWORTH INSULTING ANNE TO LOUISA? CALLING HWR PRODEFUL? ANBE ELLIOT SHOULD BE PURE KINDNESS AND ITS THE ADAPTATION THAT HAS TAKEN IT AWAY. Louisa should not be the one over here explaining and defending her relations like a girl wise beyond her years. That’s Anne’s job. And Wentworth could never call her Prideful.
If they had that conversation why did Anne have to blurt out at dinner about Charles wanting to marry her first?
Ok that fall was pretty nice for the Netflix movie fic
They ruined the carriage scene
Did they have “holiday” in Regency Britain?
I like Harville, a bit knowledgeable maybe, but I like him.
I wanted to like Bennick too but there wasn’t enough to form an opinion. It’s like he was just there for Anne’s monologues
Mr Elliot Speaks to Anne on First Encounter?!? Him. That scene was supposed to be my favorite part. The only source of hope from the trailer. I might need to reevaluate.
Captain Wentworth speaks to Anne?!? About Mr Elliot? And then about the last 8 years too? Naw, it’s too early! They need more yearning and ignoring. No “I want you in my life” Excuse me you’re not there yet Wentworth. You have to let Louisa almost die yet. Such horribly awkward conversation that does nothing for Jane Austen-again, just have a modern adaptation.
And here it comes:
“Now we’re worse than exes. We’re friends.” 58 minutes in.
I’d try to drown my Anne too if I made her say that.
I actually like what they did with Anne and Mr Elliot in Lyme (mostly) (and because of Henry Golding almost entirely)
“An American woman who nobody knew” why she gotta be American? Tho the add on about Sir Walter and the canapés? Nice. Ooc but funny.
This Louisa falling was actually my favorite of all the movies
The reaction/discussion there after? Not so much
Why is Wentworth telling Anne all this nonsense in the carriage? He needs to save it for off screen with Harville
Why do we care about Henry? Just so we can hear about people who love being a widow and don’t need a man?
And now Anne has called someone a “10”
“Don’t worry, darling he’s practicing on me.” OOC but funny
And they ruin it by having Mr Elliot tell Annewhy he’s in Bath (of a sort) He does not get to be so open about such matters.
I never thought that Anne Elliot got drunk enough for a hangover
I guess they had Anne be “deliberately dense” about the nobility for the benefit of the audience? Also they are estranged family not strangers
I do like the fly buzzing around the silent room, it might go in for a bit. And the slurp was uncalled for
I love this Mr Elliot
I also like how Lady Russell told Anne about “Louisa and her Captain” since they aren’t using letters in this movie fic
Anne crying in a bathtub was…strange. And her comment about others thinking she had grace also meant more people knew about her situation than shouldve?
They use first names too freely this Anne Elliot and Fredrick Wentworth
Anne is really talking up her relationship with Mr Elliot to Wentworth. I don’t like it.
“He was quite original wasn’t he” might be the best added line of this whole movie fic
Also where are the Admiral and his wife?
Captain Wentworth at 1:27:27 is actually correct! 1:27:53 too! (This is appropriate puppy dog hurt/yearning time)
Movie-fic’s Mr Elliot is their best character
I also like the addition of the bunny
Ok Mary eventually won me over mostly
How is Anne going to learn more about Mr Elliot?…or is she just Not going to?
W: “Are we finished” A: “suppose so” in that they’ve ended the conversation but also SUBTEXT their relationship
“I’m finished” with a bow? more subtext
I think they should have made the letter reading a voice over of Wentworth even tho Anne’s been narrating the whole movie.
Which they did for the second half but they should’ve done for the whole thing
I’m glad they only used one ending and not try to fit in the alternate as well
I have decided to take joy from the wedding scene if only because it has some closure even if it would NEVER happen in a truer adaptation
And now the beginning makes more sense with the end. Now I’m just wondering if it was the same scene or a parallel eight years later.
My biggest conclusion to the whole movie:
It’s like Netflix said: “what if I’m a 13 year old girl who wants to make a video fanfic of Persuasion but make Anne ‘Not-Like-Other-Girls’ [and more rude] and combine it with ‘the Office’ to make it so funny but keep it in the regency era because Jane Austen and I can just google details to add to the story because I am 13 and don’t know any other type of research. It’s going to be my debut fic!”
The characters became caricatures of themselves at the best of times and the story was butchered by the addition of cringy scenes and the deletion of important conversations and characters.
And I think perhaps they were going for an unreliable narrator in Anne? Like what her True Feelings might have been about the whole thing? That’s as generous as I feel like being right now.
This is a very slight edited version of my actual live-written draft. I removed a lot of my post-viewing thoughts. Also I’m not trying to dis 13yo fic makers, I just think professionals should have much higher standards.
It took me like 2.5 hours to actually make it through the movie

Decided to Take Some Requests on Writing Blog
Tumblr media
Since people went wild with the "yes, I can write for Magic: the Gathering" I'm guessing there's a need to be filled there.
I can write for: One Piece, Kuroko no Basuke, Fairy Tail, Magic: the Gathering, Supernatural, and possibly Legend of the Five Rings?
I could take a stab at several other fandoms but I have to actually KNOW the fandom for that to work. Just ask, the answer will either be yes or no. If no, I'll try to redirect you to someone else.

Pride & Prejudice and Pain: A Good Omens Fan Fic
Post-Season Two Fic
Struggling to move on, Crowley turns his anger on an unlikely source - The Complete Works of Jane Austen.
He starts with Sense & Sensibility.
Every bookshop in London suddenly wakes on a Monday morning to find that stock of the book is missing. Shipments sunk. Warehouses on fire. Paperbacks mysteriously vanish from shelves.
Bootleg copies on the internet are wiped, and Amazon suddenly experiences a weird fault where the audiobook files are all erased. All very peculiar…
Crowley is leaving Waterstones Piccadilly (the sprinkler system just malfunctioned and destroyed the classics section in a freak accident, such a pity) when he starts to ponder why he started with that particular volume of Jane Austen’s works - coming to the conclusion that he has simply lost all sense, and is fresh out of sensibility. He wants to be done with feelings for at least the next millennia if he can possibly avoid them, thank you very much.
He then moves onto Emma. Meddlesome wench. What right did she have to stick her nose into other people’s business like that? To go around and convince people of feelings that weren’t there. To make them hope.
If she had been real, she’d definitely be downstairs with the demons. No doubt about it.
It’s when he’s obliterated Mansfield Park off the face of existence (and realises that no one even noticed the loss of that one) that he wonders whether this is working. This act of defiance. Rebellion. Pettiness. Because this emptiness doesn’t feel like the haughty demonic indifference he’s trying to give off but still feels rather a lot like lingering devastation…
Persuasion is a particular gift of his, so he sees to it that the novel is swiftly dispatched to see if that gets things back on track. It doesn’t.
Crowley feels a slight twinge of sadness at the loss of Northanger Abbey - he’s always been partial to a dash of the Gothic - when he realises there is only one book left on the list.
Pride and bloody Prejudice.
The one that started it all.
Crowley slips into the nearest second hand bookshop - a poor deserted little place - and sighs as he handles a copy of the cursed book as if it were doused in holy water.
“Look, it’s nothing personal Jane-y. You know I rate your work as a smuggler very highly. But I just can’t fucking stand to look at you and remember.”
“So that’s why you’re doing this then?”
Crowley spins around with the speed of a child who has been caught with their hand in the biscuit tin. Aziraphale is standing in the shop door assessing him. Eyes full of judgement, presumably.
“Doing what, angel?” A childish comeback, Crowley knows. But sometimes denial is a classic go-to for a reason. Can help bury a myriad of hurts.
“Obliterating dear Jane off the face of the Earth it seems.”
“I’m a terrible, fallen demon of Hell - am I not? Isn’t destroying things what I’m supposed to do? Fairly sure it’s what you get taught on your first day of demon school in between ‘Being A Fallen Angel: 101’ and ‘How to raise hell on earth for dummies. ”
“What are you doing, Crowley?”
“I told you. Being evil. Passing the time. Burning books. The usual. Nothing that would warrant a visit from the Supreme Archangel himself so off you trot on your merry way.” He tries to make the title sound like a dirty word as he waves his hand dismissively and leans against a nearby stack.
“You know that’s not true.”
“Which bit?”
“The evil part.”
“Well I guess you do know best now don’t you. The new job came with the perk of always being right, did it?” he spits the words out, disdain dripping from every syllable.
“That’s not fair.”
“There is a lot that is not fair in this world, Aziraphale.”
“Well, even if that were the case I don’t understand why poor Jane is having to suffer for it.”
“Because I can’t stand it!” Crowley explodes, flinging the book across the room violently.
“Every time I look at those damn books or see an adaptation on the goddamn telly it makes me want to rain down hellfire and bring about the apocalypse again so I don’t ever have to think of you or us or what might have been ever again.”
Crowley is breathing heavily, as if he just ran a marathon. And Aziraphale doesn’t do anything. His only reaction is a single, infuriating flinch.
“I wanted to hurt you. By taking something you loved away from this world. Just like you did to me when you left .”
Silence is such a weighty thing. Really takes up space in a room until there is no oxygen left and you can’t breathe, which is particularly disconcerting when you technically don’t really need to in an immortal yet corporeal form.
Without saying a word, Aziraphale moves to pick up the discarded paperback and holds it gingerly, flicking through the first few pages. “You know, Pride is a Sin. A deadly one at that.”
Crowley has a witty retort on the tip of his once-forked tongue about the ridiculousness of an angel lecturing a demon on sin when Aziraphale suddenly takes a step closer, “Some say it comes before the Fall.”
And in one fluid motion Aziraphale goes from being impossibly far away to pressing his lips against Crowley’s as he pushes him against the stacks.
The kiss is hard and soft and full of betrayal and longing and hurt and hope. It’s confusing and it’s wonderful. And Crowley knows it has the power to destroy them both if they aren’t careful.
He breaks the kiss and turns his back on his once dear friend, holding the back of his hand to his mouth where his lips still tingle with possibility and promise.
“What is this, angel? What torture are you devising for me now?”
“Oh Crowley dear boy, that’s not what this is.”
“Well explain it to me then. Because as far as I can tell nothing has changed since our last ill-fated encounter in a bloody bookshop.”
Aziraphale sighs, “I simply realised quite early on that it couldn’t be Heaven if I wasn’t with you.”
It takes a beat to register quite what he’s saying, and Crowley wonders if this is what the humans mean when they say time can stop in moments like this.
“I could have told you that. Fairly sure I did in fact.”
Tears begin to run down Aziraphale’s angelic face. “Is there any way for you to forgive a fool who made a mess of the first proposal? Will you give me a second chance now that I have gotten over my own prejudice and folly?”
Crowley moves forward until he is close enough to cradle Aziraphale’s face with his hand. “I thought I made it clear the first time, angel. My affections and wishes have not changed. I never wish to be parted from you, from this day on.”
Later as they walked back to a certain bookshop in Soho that evening hand in hand, Aziraphale was struck with a sudden gut-wrenching fear.
“Crowley, it will be possible to restore Jane Austen back to her former glory won’t it? Or is that something I will have to bear responsibility for over the course of our eternity?”
“For you, I’ll think about it. But I’m leaving Mansfield Park. Hardly seems worth the use of a miracle.”
