Murderbot! 👾

a wip that has never seen the light of day! i started writing this fic called 5 Times Humans Interrupted Me When I Was Trying To Watch Sanctuary Moon months ago and only got through 2 times murderbot was interrupted. here's the whole thing, since i'm not sure i'll ever get around to finishing it and i think it was actually pretty fun!

The colony solicitor whirled around, revealing that she was holding a gun. She wasn’t holding it correctly, because Sanctuary Moon was notoriously bad about accuracy when it came to weapons props, but her bodyguard gasped and jumped back.

“Why?” they wailed. “Why are you doing this? You can have the codes! I’ll give them to you!”

“For the insurance money, of course,” she said coldly, leveling the gun at them. “I never cared about the codes, I just needed you distracted while my associates took control of security. Now we control CoriVen, and I don’t need you. I’m sorry, Eden… but not that sorry.” She pulled the trigger, and the camera focused in on her and the one tear slipping dramatically down her face. She wiped it and turned back to the desk, gathering up the insurance forms, the forged papers that would prove she had discovered Moon 822B, and the data stick with her father’s AI consciousness in it.

Suddenly, an arm locked around her, dragging her back as she screamed. Eden pulled her to the floor and they wrestled. Somehow she had the breath to shout, “How? I shot you!”

Eden emerged victorious, aiming her own gun at her. “Oh, Tetha… I knew the codes were a red herring. While you were otherwise engaged, I was ferreting out your plans and neutralizing your weapons.” They pulled the trigger and Tetha flinched, but nothing happened. “You know what your biggest mistake was?”

Tetha glared up at them. Her hair, still in the complex knot of braids from when she impersonated the Harbrean pilot, was somehow still perfect. “What?” she spat.

“Assuming that I’m not fluent in the hair braiding code used by Harbrean militia. You should have remembered that my half-brother’s husband’s clone—”

“SecUnit! Where are you? We’re under attack!” That was Ratthi. I was fully aware of the approaching raiders, and had already started convincing their navigation system that it was dangerously close to a black hole and needed to override its human’s directions and turn back for their own safety. I could multitask while the solicitor and bodyguard fought over the fate of CoriVen. But I put it on pause and messaged Ratthi that I was on my way. It was already pretty obvious that both characters were just putting on a show for whoever had bugged the office last episode, so I wasn’t that annoyed to be interrupted.

“Sixty seconds until we lose oxygen! Hold on!”

Kiri and Drora clutched each other as they were thrown back against the ship’s wall. The camera was shaking violently.

“Kiri… I have to tell you something before it’s too late.”

“Don’t say that,” she pleaded. “We’re going to survive this. I’m going to get you home. I promised.”

“You did promise,” Drora said, smiling sadly yet beautifully. “But you didn’t promise me.”

“What?”

“I’m not your sister, Kiri. Your sister is safe back on CoriVen. She never left.” The bot impersonating Drora pulled open its chest, revealing breathing equipment stashed inside. “So don’t you dare give up. I’m bringing you back to her.”

Kiri stared at the bot. “But… who are you? What are you?”

“I am Dr. Voiden’s invention. They called me Ora-Two.”

“SecUnit, are you busy?”

“No,” I told Mensah. On second thought, I didn’t want to rewatch this plotline anyway.

“Good, I want to talk to you about the retrieved client protocol.”

“For who?”

Her face settled stubbornly. “For you.”

I initiated a shutdown.

This is so funny my wife and I were literally JUST talking about how Todd is a nice guy and the least uhhh morally challenging in the entire show. Basically what the other ask said, bad things may happen as a result of his actions but it's not supposed to be taken seriously (and he pretty much always has good intentions iirc). Wild that people get hung up on the comedy like that

It feels like the same energy as people who would say shit like "all the babies in Rugrats are dead" - like, just interpreting things through the darkest possible lens to prove how edgy they are.

The office is a hodgepodge of the usual administrative office stuff and the more esoteric detritus of witchcraft. The desk is covered with meticulously labeled manila folders, though some of them have been crumpled or strewn across the floor due to Eddie's flawed dismount last night.  The bookshelves are filled half with shiny paperbacks on business, finance, and law, and half with yellowed old tomes on dream-working and potion-making. There's an altar set up on cloth on top of the filing cabinet.

Song stuck in head: I'd have to say I've had "Leave her Jonny" stuck in my head for about 3 years? It always comes through when I want to hum something to the point where it's almost annoying. But I still love it.

Last thing googled: diy meshtastic LoRa board. It's a really cool open source mesh network for sending encrypted messages off grid, you all should look into it it's great cause you don't need cell towers or anything.

Dream trip: never really thought about it cause it's been outta the price range. Id say down to Oklahoma to visit my friends. We helped them move down there and it's been a year and a half since we've seen them.

Last book read: oh God, it's been years since I've read fiction. Most recent book I've like, opened and read is millwrights and mechanics guide 5th edition. Very interesting stuff tbh but uh, kinda old.

Last book hated: N/A if I didn't like a book I didn't read it so I don't remember any XD yes this applied to school, SparkNotes saved my life

Fave thing to do: usually video games. Picked up escape from tarkov 12 days ago and it's so much better than I expected. Other than that I build electronics, trying to fix a motorcycle, I wanna try making body armor from milk jugs (not crazy I promise), work at my forge, the standard adhd rotation ya know.

Most niche dislike: damn, I'm trying really hard and can't think of one. Id say like, missing one tool from a set but I feel that's pretty common. I got nothing sorry XD
