Let me see if I’m getting this right for asks…! My OTP remains Egon Spengler and Janine Melnitz from Ghostbusters (specifically the first movie and the 1980s-90s animated series). They were originally a B-plot love story in the movie, but it was mostly removed in the edit. However, you can still see hints of the relationship teased in the movie and the cartoons. This is a small but mighty fandom who shares this ship! I am indebted to all the fanfic writers from years and years ago who have kept their story alive.

The scene that makes me most emotional in the movie…well, can it be any emotion?? Because the first scene of Egon and Janine together always makes my heart flutter. It’s right after we first meet Janine. She is sitting at her desk in the firehouse, passing the time because business is slow. Peter is annoyed that she has seemingly nothing to do. They have a snarky exchange. Shortly after Peter leaves to enter his office, we see Egon appear—he was under Janine’s desk the whole time. He was fixing her computer or the alarm system (although one of my friends truly believes it was meant as a risqué joke about what he was really doing under there!).

You just have to see the scene for yourself. It’s subtle but hilarious imho. Janine is trying to make polite, flirty small talk, and Egon is engaging in the only way he knows how: being factual and serious.

I just noticed something at the end credits of Ghostbusters (1984) on my last GIF post of Egon and Janine. Allow me to elaborate.

As most of you GB enthusiasts may already know, Egon rarely smiled throughout the whole of the first film, albeit the occasional 'almost-smirks' as I like to call them (until the 1989 sequel, of course).

...

UNTIL, by the end of the movie, as Janine approaches Egon relieved that he came back alive, Dr. Spengler finally smiles as she embraces him. Before, he thought that he and the guys might not be coming back (reference to the coin scene between them offscreen *wink-wink*), but boy was he wrong, as you could plainly see 👇

He clearly is happy to reunite with Janine after the battle with Gozer/Stay Puft marshmallow man. The first time he smiled in the film and it was coming back alive from battle with an ancient evil Sumerian entity, embracing Janine 💗

Winston's like "it's your dad's design" why the fuck did they do a shot of Janine?? like they just do a shot of her like there's just it just focuses on her for like half a second and then goes back and it's like we mentioned Egon and there's a little shot of Janine just kind of given a look like reminiscing I can't explain the expression she's making but like hm
