I am lonely. An honest thought on a mundane Wednesday after dinner.
I miss him. Now that we are being honest, might as well admit the feeling that has been blooming and withering throughout my body since the last few evenings.
I will live a better life. A promise to be kept to myself, it's only the third of January; it's not time to forget our loyalties to ourself.

Prompt 3 - Ruthless
@jegulus-microfic January 3 Word count 306
“You’re absolutely Ruthless. That has to be against the rules.” James whined as he picked up the game’s rulebook.
“I promise you it is entirely legal.” Regulus steepled his fingers together, gazing at James over the top of them.
“But—but, I’ll have nothing left,” James complained as he continued to scan the rules. He couldn’t find anything that said Regulus couldn’t own as many property spaces as he did. He looked up at Regulus pleadingly.
“Don’t use the puppy dog eyes on me, James. Pay up.” He held out his hand patiently.
“Fine,” James said defeatedly. “You win.” Regulus happily took the small pile of notes from James’s hand, bankrupting him.
“You’re too good at Monopoly. It’s not fair.” James was sulking, and he knew it.
“If you didn’t waste all your money and invested it like I did, you could have had a chance at beating me,” Regulus said as he started packing up the game. Nearly every property had a red hotel on it or four of the green houses. Regulus picked up his pile of property cards. James had only bought one. He shook his head as he put the last pieces in the box and put it away.
“Don’t pout James. It’s only a board game.” Regulus scolded. “Go on, go wash the dishes.” Regulus’s lips pulled into a crooked smile, knowing full well that the kitchen was a mess and the reason he picked Monopoly to play in the first place because he knew he’d win.
“Ruthless, absolutely ruthless,” James mumbled under his breath as he headed into the kitchen to take care of his end of the deal.
Regulus had bet him that if he won. He’d clean the kitchen. James felt like he’d been had. He didn’t mind, he quite enjoyed washing up and it made Reg happy.

Mrs. Hudson gets surprised.
January 3
This day has been filled with surprises! Just after breakfast, two pairs of feet came running down the stairs, and Sherlock’s deep voice was full of mirth and excitement when he called out: “Come on, John! The game’s afoot!” It reminded me of the good old days, and I found myself in dire need of a handkerchief. I couldn’t for the life of me remember when this last occurred, and I felt that breathing was a bit easier.
Only a few hours later there was a knock on the front door. My surprise must’ve been quite evident, because Molly Hooper blushed and stuttered when she saw the state I was in. I bid her to come inside. She was carrying a small cage fitting for a cat, and I must admit that my curiosity was peaked.
It turned out that the young woman found herself in a bit of a plight. She had an appointment in Edinburgh the next day, where she was to attend a seminar, and her neighbour, who was supposed to watch her cat the three days she would be up north, had had an accident and was in hospital.
“I have no other to ask, Mrs. Hudson. The boys upstairs aren’t really an option, but I think you might be capable of watching my Tim,” she said in her sweet voice.
She was clearly uncomfortable, fidgeting with her braid, the blush growing deeper crimson by the minute. I took pity on her, of course. She’s a friend of the boys, and I could certainly do with a bit of company now that my mood was kind of blue.
“Of course, I’ll watch him, dear,” I assured Molly. “And you were quite right to trust me rather than ask the boys. Can you imagine Sherlock…”
I left the meaning of the sentence to her imagination, and I knew she understood perfectly well what I meant.
***
I didn’t hear the boys return, so it was probably after my bedtime. They could be quite considerate when they came back from a case after hours. My lack of hearing them can of course have to do with the fact that I had a talk with Molly’s Tim. Everything I couldn’t say out loud, least of all to my tenants, I poured out to that poor cat who just looked mesmerised at me with his amber coloured eyes.
“I don’t know what to do with them, Tim,” I started. “To everyone with the slightest imagination, it’s clear as day that my Sherlock and John love each other. Desperately so, in fact, but do they act? Oh, no, because that would cause the entire world to collapse, wouldn’t it? At least that’s what they seem to think. How can the most observant man in London not see what his doctor feels for him, and vice versa?”
The evening ended with me crying into Tim’s soft fur.
