✩ types of people as studio ghibli movies ☾
my neighbor totoro: sweet as a summer’s day, dreams of moving to a farm with their loved ones, fresh vegetables, lives in worn-in tees and faded jeans, probably repressing some half-forgotten childhood trauma, quiet birdsong
spirited away: headstrong, isolates themself from their loved ones when they feel down, scraped knees and callused fingers, loves purely and sweetly, forced to grow up far too young, always tries to help those in need
kiki’s delivery service: permanently mad they don’t have their own magical girl transformation sequence, swishy skirts, fiercely independent, cat person, always smells of warm bakery air, bright eyes still filled with hope for the future
princess mononoke: righteous anger, not afraid to stand up to authority, "on all levels except physical, i am a wolf”, hiding a gentle heart behind an armored exterior, adores being out in nature, sees love as a catalyst for redemption & regrowth
howl’s moving castle: old soul, sarcastic sense of humor that masks a hopeless romantic, home-cooked meals, a fashion sense just a little too elaborate to be practical, dreams of traveling the world, wants nothing more than a peaceful life
ponyo: childlike wonder, really good with kids, finds the ocean endlessly fascinating, craves being free to experience new and exciting things, always down to spend time with friends, effortlessly charming everyone they meet
i want to give a shoutout to @poppyonthehill - her ghibli posts are wonderful and so well-written, and they’ve inspired me to create more of these types of posts & helped get me out of a writing slump! ♡

Director Mamoru Hosoda (MIRAI, WOLF CHILDREN, BOY AND THE BEAST) announced next film for Studio Chizu: BELLE, coming later in 2021.
Like his earlier film SUMMER WARS, Hosoda’s next film returns to a virtual world for part of its setting. AnimeNewsNetwork reports the synopsis as a 17-year-old girl, Suzu, joins the virtual community called U while living with her father in a rural town. Suzu’s avatar, named Belle, attracts attention for her singing — including from a “mysterious creature shaped like a dragon.”
Adding the cover frame of the teaser trailer and the poster art below, BELLE seems to be a creative retelling of the Beauty and the Beast fairytale. The film arrives in Japan Summer 2021.

NEW Anime Star Wars: Visions OFFICIAL FULL TRAILER! | Disney+ (2021)
Seven Japanese anime studios bring their unique talent and perspective to Star Wars: Visions, a collection of animated Original Short Films, streaming September 22 on @DisneyPlus.
Not going to lie, I’m pretty excited for this. Since Star Wars is inspired by Samurai films, so I think it feels natural for it to be done this way now.
The artwork and concept art looks amazing. It’s like a mix of anime, manga and western animation like Avatar The Last Airbender. With the right story-telling, it can get pretty intense or even dark.
Think of the possibilities, surviving Jedi’s on the run from the Empire after the destruction of the Jedi Order, is akin to that of former Samurais (Ronin) on the run from the Imperials after the destruction of the Shogunate during Boshin War.
It would be epic if they actually use a Japanese version of Star Wars score like this Star Wars: Imperial March | EPIC SAMURAI VERSION (Ghost of Tsushima Style) :
