Rest In Peace, Sonny Chiba. Sadly, he died today (August 19th) from pneumonia brought on by the Coronavirus.
He was a true icon of Japanese cinema and should be recognized as one of the martial arts movie greats. An absolute icon.
For those that don’t recognize him or his name, you may know his best as Hattori Hanzo from Kill Bill.

this kind of thing... it doesn't start by one person telling a story. it’s more like everyone's fear just takes on a life of its own

THRONE OF BLOOD (1957)
dir. akira kurosawa
Men are vain and death is long, And pride dies first within the grave, For hair and nails are growing still, When face and fame are gone, Nothing in this world will save, Or measure up man's actions here, Nor in the next - for there is none, This life must end in fear, Only evil may maintain, An afterlife for those who will, Who love this world - who have no son, To whom ambition calls, Even so - this false fame falls, Death will reign - man dies in vain.
