Was watching someone play Super Mario Sunshine the other day and they got to the level where the electric ray attacks the hotel and you have to keep hitting it as it breaks into progressively more numerous/smaller copies, which made me think of Karl’s boss fight and how Miranda relates him to a Japanese sleeper ray in her writings.
And like. I think we all wish Karl’s mutated form was something else/we all wish they hadn’t given this man 100 animal motifs. And I’d like to suggest to Capcom that they simply remake the game to where every time you damage him, he multiplies, until Ethan is faced with a horde of 500 6 inch tall Karls. It wouldn’t solve anything necessarily but think of the comedic potential.

Week 9: Sands, Sips, and Scuba
Monday - Annnnnnd We’re off
We packed early in the morning after landing in Sydney. We loaded our stuff into the campervan parked across the street and made the cabin “sea-worthy”. After turning the first block, however, there was a thundering crash... We had underestimated just how violently the car could shake, nothing but good omens here.
Our first stop was the Australian Reptile Park. We booked the encounters tour which allowed us to pet koalas and echidnas, and even hold a juvenile wombat. We also got a backroom tour of some of the world’s deadliest snakes and spiders. They keep them to harvest their venom which gets sent around the world to develop antivenom medicine.

Tuesday - Sand Boarding
The next day we drove up the coast to Nelson’s Bay. We toured the nearby beach around Port Stevens. We got a fascinating history lesson on how the Australians braced this beach for a Japanese invasion in 1942 and how the beach grows yearly by 4 meters. The large deposits are actually coming from the blue mountains eroding and getting washed out into the sea. And then we sandboarded, more like sled but yeah:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That evening we decided to go backwards and stay at a nearby park to make our 10 am wine tour in Hunter Valley.
Wednesday - Wine and Turkish Delight
It was 23 fleets of wine and cheese pairings and it floored everyone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was delicious but way more alcohol than any of us were expecting. The day of drinking took us out for the next four hours of the day. We made it to Port Macquarie and took a stumbling but refreshing stroll on the beach.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That night we had the best food I’ve had during my time in Australia. We dined at Reyhana, a Turkish restaurant, and ate heaps of homemade pita and hummus as well as lamb shish and buttered rice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I hastily booked a nearby campsite for the night as all the places I did find were unavailable. It turned out to be an unpowered campsite… Oops. No AC plus tons of bugs meant a humid, irritated night of sleep for everyone.
Thursday - Byron Baes
The next morning we booked it to Byron Bay for a promising day of adventure.
First up was a guided snorkeling excursion through the EAC(East Australian Current) duuuude (the same one Crush and his son Squirt rode in Finding Nemo).
Tumblr media
Some highlights were the eagle ray and leopard shark that were hitching a ride on the EAC to loop the island we were snorkeling around. The boat ride was another highlight, the swell coming in made for perfect hills to accelerate over and catch air, at least that’s how the driver felt.
That night we ventured into the town of Byron Bay. We had only known the town from the cheesy reality TV show called Byron Baes so we were pleasantly surprised by how similar it was. It’s a town of linens and “inspirers” (rather than influencers). All that aside, we got a beautiful dinner in a bar that looked over the beach and then made our way to the local nightlife. Props to our Uber driver who convinced us to check out our first stop: someone’s backyard turned into a psychedelic bar with a trippy dancefloor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was unlike anything I had been to. The DJ was mixing vaguely familiar music over a wash of synths, there were artists actively painting their psychedelic pieces in the corners, and, when they felt it was getting a bit dull, fire-dancing people would inexplicably take over the dance floor and perform.
Friday - Koala Cuddling to Cairns Crazes
We finally got to hold koalas! The state of New South Wales forbids the practice and so as soon as we crossed the border into Queensland we signed up for the experience. It was a brief encounter and the zoo keeper told us that it was a practice they and the rest of Australia would be phasing out over the next year.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We then parted ways with our roommates who drove up in their sleeper van and would now make the 13-hour drive back down the coast to Sydney.
We quickly packed up and made our way to the Brisbane airport to catch our flight to Cairns. Our time in Cairns was brief. We got in late and spent most of our time running between loads of laundry at the local laundromat and finishing the procrastinated scuba diving e-learning course.
Saturday - Live A Board, Dive A Board
*5:45 am*
I’m up, I’m up.
We started our day early getting our gear and luggage stowed on the diving boat we’d be living on for the next three days. The boat takes customers out to the offshore parts of the Great Barrier Reef and guides them through certifications and general scuba diving skills. Joe, my Dad and I signed up for the Advanced Scuba Diving and Nitrox courses. Over this day and the next, we took our e-learning skills and applied them out at sea. The technical dives focused on navigation with and without a compass, buoyancy and control, night diving (how to communicate and navigate), a deep dive down to 100 feet, and a fish identification dive.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
*phew*
By the end of the second day, we were officially advanced scuba divers! We dove, ate, and drank with people from all around the world. Almost everyone, regardless of age, had a similar story of feeling that too much of their life had gone by or that they had missed out on traveling earlier and so quit their jobs to see the world. For many of them, it was a decision that took several years of careful planning and saving and none of them regret diving out of their comfort zone and into the wider world.
Quick side note: I was told by my instructor that he knew I was an aerospace student as soon as he saw me take off from the ocean floor, the plume of sand that followed my vertical, sound barrier-breaking push was "rocket-like".
Between dives, I tried to catch up on the alarming amount of recorded lectures I’ve missed.
And now I write this on the boat ride back to shore with nine new dives and two new certifications under my belt. I’m looking forward to the last few days with my Dad and dreading the reality check from the mounting days of missed school.
Take care, everyone!

Hello~! Hope you are having a wonderful day~! 🐝💜
Would it be okay to get some headcannons or little drabbles for the 4 Lords reacting to their crush of whom is a chubby/curvy Reader and (secretly-) a powerful swimmer (possibly was a lifeguard in the past)? Possibly Reader sees & saves their crush from a leg cramp to slipping off the peer due to ice one day...?
Did lifeguarding for 2 years before COVID started and absolutely loved doing the job, but also enjoyed the class itself!
Yoooo that's really cool :D That's the kind of stuff that really comes in handy in real life huh, I'm glad you had a fun experience with it! Let's bring on the Lords!!!
Alcina Dimitrescu
Respectfully, she is looking 👀
As a lady of thiccness herself, of course she appreciates people of any size and shape.
You might get a little flustered with how much attention she lavishes you with, whether it was with physical affection or just a very appreciative gaze. You'd have a hard time ever doubting her attraction to you on any level.
She's not really much of a swimmer herself, preferring to soak and lounge if she really had to be in any body of water (or fluid, see: the literal blood bath in her castle.)
That said, she's willing to join you for a midday dip if you ask nicely. She'll indulge you, especially if she knew how much you enjoyed it.
She might even go ahead and join you in the deeper parts of the water, it's not like it'll be an issue. By the time it gets to her chest, you'll probably be paddling under the surface to keep afloat.
You can teach her how to swim and do different strokes and kicks as a way to bond and get closer (she wouldn't mind.)
Though there's probably a reason why she doesn't swim so much -- she's incredibly dense due to her added body weight and muscle mass.
Still, it was a valiant effort and the Countess had some fun, even if she wasn't able to float in the same way you were.
Watching you swim her in circles was an activity she vastly preferred, though she wouldn't be opposed to another lesson. Maybe guide her into proper form while you were at it.
Unfortunately, the fantasy of saving her from drowning may be farther from reality. It would actually be more likely for her to save you. Hopefully, you wouldn't mind a tall strong woman such as herself carrying you back to safety when need be.
Donna Beneviento
She's... not fond of swimming.
Okay, it's not really the activity itself that bothers her, it's the fact that she has to change into something if she wants to go in the water but if there's nowhere to change then she has to wear it under her normal clothes, then after the swimming is over she has to deal with being wet and cold for a while--
"You'll see me in a bathing suit," you might say to jokingly convince her.
You'll be surprised at how quickly her tune changes after realizing this, she's already picking out something to wear.
Funnily enough, Angie might even have her own set of swimwear -- just imagine an old timey swimsuit on her wooden doll body... now imagine Donna in a matching pair.
Honestly it's kind of adorable to think about, but don't laugh too much at her. Some light teasing is alright though.
When you get to your destination, Donna tries her best to mostly stay along the sidelines. Maybe dip her toes in a bit, but that's as far as she's willing to go.
...until Angie, without warning, dove into the water for a little bit of fun.
Now normally this wouldn't be a problem, except for the fact that she is a wooden doll and the water would definitely ruin some parts of her body. And before Donna even has time to think about it, she jumps in right after her for a rescue.
Did I mention that she can't swim? Uhhh oops.
It's lucky that you do though SOMEONE HELP THEM
You immediately start going over to them, trying your best to calm Donna down as Angie sat atop her head.
The whole time Donna is clinging to you, watching your strong arms pull you closer back onto the shore. She doesn't even realize it's time to let go by the time you do get there.
She definitely won't be getting into swimming any time soon, but... she did quite enjoy watching you do it. Hope you like an audience from that day forward.
Salvatore Moreau
SWIMMING BUDDIES!!!!
Pardon his excitement but he would be absolutely thrilled to have someone go swimming with him, especially someone who could even keep up with his pace. He kind of wishes that the two of you could spend it somewhere not as dank as his little ol' reservoir though.
Yeah, it's home, but he only wants the best for you, so you two might find yourselves in a secluded lake somewhere. A little privacy never hurt.
In the water, Moreau moves much faster and smoother -- he's literally in his element, of course he would be comfortable moving around.
He even let you ride on his back so you can get some distance. This could be fun!
Though having cramps while in the middle of a big lake was decidedly less fun. It didn't help that Sal can't even point out exactly where it started to stiffen.
It was a good thing your training kicked in at the first sign of his pain, and you tried your best to calm him down.
You let him hold onto your shoulders as you swam him back to shore. Funny how the tables have turned.
Before he could even start apologizing for "ruining the day" and wanting to make it up to you, you start your first aid to relieve his cramps and assure him that everything was alright. You were more than happy just to get to spend time with him, and you were sure to remind him not to push too hard just to impress you.
If you really want him to be quiet? Plant a little kiss on his cheek. That'll render him speechless for a few hours for sure.
Karl Heisenberg
Honestly, it'd be pretty hard to convince Karl to go near any body of water. Since he believed that his body was much like the Narke japonica (Japanese sleeper ray), he believed would be fine in water.
Let's just say he didn't take into account the difference between his own physiology and a fish's, so when he tried to use his powers while in water... uhhhh...
Long story short, no water time for the zappy boi.
You can probably convince him to join you on swimming trips anyway (what a simp) but he won't get in with you. He doesn't want to take the risk.
Besides, he doesn't mind the view ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
He swears the way he's looking at you is just being appreciative of the way you dive into the lake. He may get a little closer to the lake too, just to keep an eye on you.
If you tell him about your lifeguarding past, he knows you'll be able to handle yourself, but he just wants to be sure that everything's going to be o--
FUCK!!!!
One second he's on the pier and the next he's in freezing cold water. He's not having a good time!
By the time he realizes you're there and tugging him to safety, all he's thinking is "Don't electrocute them, don't electrocute them, DON'T ELECTROCUTE--"
...how did you get to the shore so fast?
Apparently, he had blacked out somewhere in the commotion of it all and he was lying on his back, a face full of you greeting him as soon as he opened his eyes.
"Well hello there," he'd say with a smirk.
If he got to see an angel every time he ended up in water, he might do it more often. (And he actually might, you oughtta keep a close eye on him during these trips.)

heisenberg's electromagnetism being developed from having electric organs as result from adapting to the cadou is honestly so interesting when you take into consideration the species of electric ray that his electric organs are similar to, the narke japonica (AKA, the japanese sleeper ray)
Tumblr media
the shocks from the JPR being strong yet not life-threatening is what interests me in particular, because in heisenberg's boss fight, he sends out waves of electricity that amounts to basically nonexistent damage or chip damage (even on VoS difficulty) and only really serve as a tell that the next phase of his boss fight is starting (like he's charging up or something). it also makes me wonder how he powers the factory; is it powered by his electromagnetic powers or is it simply just industrial generators doing the job?
Tumblr media
i'm not sure if this part is intentional or not, but this is also funnier in the context of heisenberg being the only lord in the village that wants to be free from mother miranda.

Fun Biology facts about the Japanese Sleeper Ray because you can’t just throw out the name Narke Japonica in a medical report for your horror game and not expect me to become interested (do not get me started on knifefish):
Despite being a Japanese ray, it was named by a German scientist.
The method for making one produce a consistent electrical charge in a lab setting is pushing its head with your hand (IDK why I find that so funny.)
They produce positive electrical charges from their back and negative charges from their belly.
Despite the in-game research notes claiming that the electric organ functions something like a electric coil, it’s actually more similar to a parallel circuit. (I guess maybe it’s referring to how the electrolytes stack inside of each organ? I guess?)
Interestingly, they (and other electric rays) are used in biomedical research, as they can serve as fairly accurate model for the human nervous system.

housemates with shiratorizawa
helloo!! new headcanon series here hehe. i hope you like this very long set of headcanons!
Tumblr media
how you ended up in a house with these guys:
they're such a tight-knit bunch considering the fact that they've been living in a dormitory throughout high school
it was probs semi or kawanishi who suggested getting an extra roommate to help with the rent (tendou and goshiki are accident prone they need someone to help pay for repairs)
so ushijima made and put up an ad for an extra housemate. although he didn't disclose the fact that you'd be rooming with 7 other dudes
you were kind of desperate for some housing at this point so you just went with it
the person who greets you at the door is shirabu. but its more like he saw you, your bag, and went back inside the house leaving the door open
you stood there for a whole ten minutes before kawanishi came up to invite you inside
you're instantly greeted by goshiki and semi cleaning the house like crazy. semi was punching a couch cushion so that it looked an extra soft pillow
tbh the only normal you see are ushijima and reon. they're probs the ones who interviewed you to see if you were a good fit as their housemate
despite how weird your first impressions of some of your housemates were, you were still keen to move in
and then that's when tendou decided to come home from the pet shop with an iguana
living there:
you're roommate ends up being shirabu because no one else wanted to room with him (jk they all drew straws and he was lucky)
he's a pretty good roommate: clean, keeps to himself, doesn't play music too loudly
except the fact that he ALWAYS HOGS THE UPSTAIRS BATHROOM
the bathroom might as well just be his because it's FULL of beauty products. also shirabu takes a million years to get ready that at this point, everyone uses the downstairs bathroom
lmao y'all get your revenge tho by using some of shirabu's products when he's gone
its particularly you, semi, tendo, and kawanishi who like to do that
kawanishi: *walks past shirabu*
shirabu: bitch, did you use my fucking Splash of Pomegranate with Exfoliating Sesame Seeds: Rainforest of the Sun Bath and Body Works shower gel?
kawanishi:...no?
semi and reon are both roommates and are probably the most normal people in the house which is saying something
also idk why i feel like they both have a thing for scented candles but they're too shy to tell anyone
like,,, they have a closet full of scented candles and everything
reon: hey, want me to light up Spring Lake or Summer's Kiss?
semi: Summer's Kiss all the way
that's why they always keep their door locked and whenever someone knocks, they quickly snuff out the candle and fan the smoke out of the windows
you: whoa, why does it smell so nice here?
semi: ...air freshener
is kawanishi the only sane, normal person in the house? yeah, probably
he's the one who remembers to get groceries and buy toilet paper and shit and he's so happy he has you to help him out
the thing is though, he's a NOTORIOUS prankster. like, nobody suspects him because they assume its tendou who put packets of ketchup under the toilet seat but no, it was kawanishi
but his favorite person to mess with is his roommate: goshiki
okay goshiki is a Heavy Sleeper and one night you and kawanishi decided to draw criss-cross stocking marks on his legs with permanent marker
goshiki is an alright housemate. he's polite, does his assigned chores, rarely gets into your privacy
but oh my god every morning at 5 am he wakes up the entire house BY BLENDING PROTEIN SHAKES
you and shirabu considered soundproofing your room or chaining goshiki to his bed
ONE OF THE HOUSE'S GREATEST MYSTERIES: how does goshiki cut his hair?
tendou knows you've been dying to know why so one day he's all 'do you really wanna know?' and you're like 'HECC YEAH' and he takes your arm and brings you to goshiki's room
in there you find him with a bowl on his head and cutting along the rim with his scissors
shirabu is also with him but he has a ruler for his bangs
its the only time they ever get along
tendou and ushijima has hands-down the most chaotic room set-up
for one, half of it, ushijima's half, looks like a traditional japanese house
you know that scene in BNHA where todoroki was showing off his room? yes that one
y'all are like 'how was he able to bring tatami mats in his room?'
and then tendou's half looks like a weird-ass storage room complete with an iguana tank (yes he kept it)
tendou probs has those color-changing lights too
and the funny part about it is that both ushijima and tendou are completely okay with the set-up
also tendou has the most irregular schedule ever. like,,, circadian rhythms just wasn't installed in the being that is Tendou Satori
like,, he'll be making mac and cheese at 3 am and just enter your room asking if you want anything
you: WHY WOULD I WANT MAC AND CHEESE AT 3 AM???
shirabu, who's still awake because he's a med student: i'll have some
ushijima on the other hand has such a set schedule and daily routine. he's the definition of 'working like clockwork'
you guys even use him as your clock because why not?
you: guys what time is it?
reon: ushijima just left for his morning run so probably 7am
the only thing is that ushijima,,, generally doesn't cook??
and by that he likes to eat raw vegetables. no seasoning, no nothing
and he always offers to make people snacks and he does it so sincerely that you can't help but accept his snacks
*insert scene of you eating raw carrots at 11 pm while studying*
house incident: everyone being a closeted fan of Naruto
everyone in shiratorizawa is a closeted naruto fan (except for a few but we’ll be discussing) and no i don’t accept criticism on this
goshiki MAY have rock lee’s signature bowl cut and sometimes walks around the house in leg weights but he doesn’t say who he copies them from outright
but EVERYONE ELSE
you started having your suspicions when you walked into semi and reon’s room looking for a pencil and found semi sitting in bed with a pile of tissues around him and his laptop on his lap
you guys stare at each other for a while and semi just quickly yells “I WAS WATCHING PORN”
you: I DON’T NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU’RE WATCHING
my boy semi was actually crying to that part in naruto when zabuza and haku died
his roommate reon on the other hand has a secret tattoo
it’s a sharingan tattoo and its on his back, just between his shoulder blades, which is why he doesn’t go around shirtless (his favorite character is itachi don’t @ me)
reon probably owns an akatsuki cloak too
kawanishi has an ENTIRE playlist of the naruto opening and ending tracks that he got from youtube and converted into mp3 format on youtube mp3 converter which he then downloaded and organized into a playlist with the album art when he was thirteen
sometimes you’ll hear him whistling Ikimono Gakari and everyone in the house is all 👂👂👂
tendou is the only one not lowkey about it but he’s not lowkey about anything he likes
and then one day you and tendou are in the kitchen and ushijima decides to watch tv while eating breakfast
while flipping through the channels he comes across the rock lee vs. gaara fight and he just decides to watch while eating
tendou’s like ‘wakatoshi? do you,,, like naruto?’
ushijima: is this naruto? it looks pretty cool
AND THEN YOU AND TENDOU JUST AMBUSH HIM AND GO INTO A TED TALK ABOUT HOW AWESOME NARUTO IS
while you’re busy ranting about it, semi, goshiki, and reon, who recognize the unmistakable Sounds of Naruto, creep downstairs
semi: oh, cool. it’s naruto
reon: yeah, used to watch it when i was a kid
goshiki: hmm, seems like an alright show
and then USHIJIMA LOOKS AT GOSHIKI AND THEN AT ROCK LEE AND JUST GOES
‘hey, you remind me of that guy’
AND GOSHIKI ALMOST CRIES
reon and semi end up sitting on the couch, trying to hold in their middle-school selves while watching
and then kawanishi comes in and he’s just like OH MY GOD NARUTO!!
now almost everyone in the house is watching. at that part when rock lee drops his weights reon and semi jump off the couch and cheer
they can’t hold themselves back anymore
last but not the least, shirabu, who came back from class, walks into the living room to find all of his housemates cheering and crying in front of the TV that’s playing naruto
shirabu: omg u guys are lame
goshiki, sobbing: WE’RE NOT LAME IF WE FOLLOW OUR NINJA WAY
shirabu: welL, OBVIOUSLY THE BEST FIGHT SCENE IS WHEN NARUTO AND ROCK LEE GO AGAINST KIMIMARO YOU UNCULTURED FUCKS
and then he runs up to his room before coming down with THE FULL BLU-RAY DISC SET OF NARUTO ALL THE WAY UNTIL SHIPPUDEN
basically you guys end up watching naruto all day and semi finally admitted that he wasn’t watching porn the day you came into his room

Actually his whole electric organs are based off of a stingray
Apparently in game they state that his organs resemble those of Narke japonica, (aka the Japanese sleeper ray) which is an electric ray. This is according to the Resident Evil wiki (which granted, could be wrong).
Also apparently stingrays don't have electric organs. If his organs were based off of a stingray, he'd be venomous, not have magnet powers, from what I can tell.

Top 30 Most Underrated Albums!!
My top 30 favorite albums that I think are lovely and should be praised WAAAAY more than they are! Everything on here is great and I recommend all these albums!
30. Bon Iver - 22 A Million
Bon Iver takes his sound to the most experimental. Vocoder passages are super dope, 715 Creeks is an insanely underrated tune.
29. Siriusmo - Mosaik
Great kitschy synth music. Catchy, lighthearted, sweet and playful.
28. Bones - Useless
Best underground soundcloud rap album in my opinion. Cavernous, edgy, loud and depressing.
27. Mellowhype - Numbers
For an album with what I consider to be one of the best Frank Ocean features ever I hardly see it talked about in hip-hop circles. Great album.
26. Justice - Audio Video Disco
Grossly overshadowed by it’s monolithic older brother Cross, Audio Video Disco still serves bangers. Civilization is one of my top 10 songs of all time but On’n’on, Helix and New Lands should not be overlooked!
25. Gesaffelstein - Aleph
If I had to describe Aleph in a single word it would be brooding. Runners up include expensive, violent and scary.
24. Duck Sauce - Quack
If anything proves that we are long overdue for a full length A-Trak solo album, it’s this.
23. Yung Lean - Unknown Memory
Cloud rap pioneer Yung Lean’s opus. Volt, Sunrise Angel, Sandman and Blinded are all incredibly ahead of their time.
22. Playboi Carti - In Abundance
This one comes with a bit of a caveat considering it is a fan-compiled mixtape and not an official album but many of the songs on this project in my opinion stack up against highlights from S/T, Die Lit and WLR.
21. Dead Can Dance - Within the Realm of a Dying Sun
Referring to this album as moody and ambient don’t do it justice but for the sake of keeping  this list concise it will have to do. Dead Can Dance deserve the highest order of praise for this medieval epic.
20. Porches - The House
A melancholy and personal look into Porches frontman Aaron Maine’s experiences with social anxiety and depression. It’s groovy and will have you dancing with tears in your eyes.
19. Oni Ayhun - Oar003
Only two tracks long which makes it the shortest album on this list, Olof Dreijer of The Knife, under the pseudonym Oni Ayhun, makes curious, twinkling techno on Oar003.
18. Amnesia Scanner - Another Life
Abrasive and glitchy, german electronic duo Amnesia Scanner’s first album is not for the feint of heart but anyone who decides to keep an open mind (and the volume knob sitting lower than usual) will find some truly captivating moments of electronic brilliance on this record.
17. Mr Oizo - All Wet
Absolutely fucking hilarious album. With features from Skrillex, Boys Noize, Peaches and even Charli Xcx. All wet is modern dadaism and if you don’t believe me make sure you check out No Tony and Chairs in particular.
16. Crystal Castles - Amnesty (I)
I do not understand why this album isn’t  considered more when talking about Crystal Castles’ discography. It sounds related to their self titled trilogy but takes the band’s style in a less dance oriented, more experimental almost instrumental hiphop direction. Edith Francis’ vocals are great and the songs Ornament and Fleece stand out in particular, not to mention that the bonus track Kept may be one of the group’s best.
15. Simian Mobile Disco - Murmuations
Very low-key electronic music from Simian Mobile Disco, Murmurations features some flooring choral pieces backed by soft dance patterns. Great relaxing listen for fans of Caribou, Jamie XX and Chrome Sparks.
14. Mdou Moctar - Ilana (The Creator)
Where to even begin with this one! Mdou Moctar is a guitarist from Niger and Ilana (The Creator) is in my opinion his best work. Fuzzy rock music that sounds like it’s being played from 50-foot monitors in the middle of the Sahara.
13. Chemical Brothers - Further
Chemical brother’s second sleekest album after born in the echoes, Further has glamour that you’re seldom able to find elsewhere.
12. Boys Noize - Mayday
Absolute fucking rager of an album. Featuring Policia, Remy Banks and Hudson Mohawke among others, Boys Noize is in your face and doesn’t give a shit on Mayday. The remix of Birthday released after the album with Danny Brown is priceless.
11. Nico - Desertshore
Break out the tissues if you plan on listening to Desertshore today, this album is unrelentingly melancholic. Nico’s vocals sound almost ghost-like at times and the instrumentals on here are gorgeous.
10. The Newcomer - Earth Motivation
Sopping wet with OPN influence, Earth Motivation is glitchy but retains an emotional quality that will sit with you for a while after your first listen. Perfect for fans of Autechre, Oneohtrixpointnever and Venetian Snares.
9. Tami T - High Pitched and Moist
High Pitched and Moist is definitely not for everyone, but if you like your pop smeared with autotune and in-your-face sexuality then Tami T’s 2019 album is perfect for you! I recommend this one for any fans of Fever Ray and GFOTY.
8. Ryuichi Sakamoto - Async
From the jump, Japanese avant garde classical composer, pianist, electronic musician and synthpop legend Ryuichi Sakamoto hits you where it hurts on Async. The first tune Andata is one of the most beautiful and soul crushing instrumental songs I have ever had the pleasure of hearing, but the quality remains consistent throughout the entire record.
7.  Blanck Mass - World Eater
Holy. Fuck. Drop whatever you’re doing right now and listen to this album. I don’t care if you’re in a business meeting or getting lunch, World Eater demands the utmost attention. After hearing the transition from the end of Rhesus Negative to Please my life was never the same. I can’t sing Blanck Mass’ praises enough so you’re going to have to check this one out yourself but I guarantee you will NOT be disappointed.
6. Jean-Michel Jarre - Oxygene
French synth deity Jean-Michel Jarre’s intergalactic journey Oxygene is a record that soars above and beyond its compatriots (namely Mort Garson’s Plantasia and Jean-Jacques Perrey’s Moog Indigo) and will take you on an extra-planetary voyage from which you may never return. I recommend listening to this album with the best sound system you have available to really get the most out of it.
5. The Knife - Shaken-Up Versions
Technically The Knife’s last album before their retirement (not counting the Terminal 7 Live album), Shaken-Up Versions sees Karin and Olof Dreijer metamorphosing songs from all across their discography into dancefloor fillers. Electronic musicians retooling their material into more danceable, DJ set ready tracks is nothing new (See Alive 2007 and All Across the Universe) but the Knife’s catalog is already so impressive that hearing classics transmogrified like this is a phenomenal experience that I don’t want any dance music fans to miss out on! They reworked Silent Shout for christ’s sake how can you not love this.
4. Geinoh Yamashirogumi - Ecophony Rinne
Katsuhiro Otomo famously tapped Geinoh Yamashirogumi for the soundtrack to Akira, but what some of you may not know is that, while working on the Akira manga, Otomo was listening to this record in particular which inspired him to collaborate with the collective for the Akira film. Ecophony Rinne is like nothing I have ever heard before or since. It’s got a tectonic quality to it that makes you think you’re witnessing an extinction event or the birth of a new universe while listening which is an experience I highly recommend, ESPECIALLY for fans of the Akira manga and film; this album sounds like how Akira looks and Akira looks damn good.
3. Buy Muy Drugs - Buy Muy Drugs
Slept on in every regard, Buy Muy Drugs is a triumph of experimental and industrial hiphop. The duo made up of rapper Denmark Vessey and producer Azarias are welding together grime, bass music and afro-cuban percussion into a dystopic and pummeling listening experience that gets better and better with every listen. To quote JPEGMAFIA, “Death Grips can’t do this shit”.
2. Susumu Hirasawa - Technique of Relief
This album is jaw-dropping. It’s pop, ambient, traditional-Japanese experimental choral synth music delivered with soaring, regal grandiosity. One of the closest things to musical perfection I can think of, Technique of Relief is an album that even now I am having a difficult time describing. Intensely emotional yet hopeful; groovy but substantive, Susumu Hirasawa penned an oeuvre with this record.
1. Daft Punk - Human After All
The number one spot goes to the black sheep of the world’s most beloved electronic music making androids’ discography. Panned on release for being “spread thin” and “too minimal”, (The Village Voice went so far as to call the album “ a bad record whose details rarely merit further thought “) Daft Punk’s third album Human After all is definitely different from it’s rhinestone studded predecessor but in the absolute best way possible. It’s groovy, dark, emotional, tragic, minimal, distorted and it yields some of the robots’ best tracks (Human After All detractors seem to forget that Technologic, Robot Rock and the title track do not actually stem from the Alive 2007 Coachella set but rather find their home on this album). Sleeper gems like Make Love, Emotion, Television Rule the Nation and Prime Time of Your Life range from introspective and moody RnB that would not feel out of place on a Sebastien Tellier record to blown out, gravelly rock oriented tunes that remind the listener of Daft Punk’s roots as french garage rockers. Phenomenal album, criminally underrated.

More Fluff Headcannons
If he's the first one to wake up, he'll admire your peaceful expression while you're sleeping for a few minutes before waking you up with a kiss.
He loves seeing you as the first thing he sees in the morning.
He just has to kiss his attractive hope~
It's showing his gratitude for putting up for trash like him.
That and letting him love you and you returning it.
He's still clingy in bed: his arms are wrapped tightly around your waist and he pulls you close to him as possible.
If you wake up first, you pry his arms off of your waist and drag him out of bed if he hasn't woken up.
He's a light sleeper.
He used to have trouble falling asleep because of how scattered his thoughts are.
He couldn't stop thinking.
But you're in his life now and he can easily fall asleep with you near him.
You're the little ray of sunshine in his dark twisted world.
He shows his affections constantly, most of the time it was because he couldn't remember if he did or not.
It's not because he was clingy, it was because he's forgetful.
You have to tippy toe to kiss him because he's so tall!
(5'9 in English, 5'11 in Japanese.)
He likes to tease you about your guys' height difference.
Calling you "little", asking you if you needed help to get anything on the high shelves, picking you up randomly, etc.
He loves to hear you laugh, it's so cute too him!
He tickles you to make you laugh because he knows he's not funny.
But you're funny and you can make him laugh easily.
Or wheeze, you don't know.
His laugh sounds like wheezing to you.
~
"Ahahahahaha! The super high school levels are working together to avenge the death of their friend! How beautiful that is~"

Top Singles/EPs of 2017
To keep the pool of candidates manageable, I made the arbitrary choice to restrict my lists to what I purchased on vinyl. As well, these are presented in alphabetical order, because ranking them seems so painful (choosing just ten was hard enough). Each title is a link to some sort of audio sample.
18 Rays - 18 Rays (Antinote) Sleeper hit for me, and “I Feel Rain” is super stoned, sleepy eyed pop brilliance and an absolute ear worm. The rest of the EP is top shelf downtempo, with a melancholic pop edge. Shout out to the bassline in “These Empty Stairs”, huge guitars in “Long Time Ago”, and the (mellotron?) flutes of “North West Plaza”.
Tumblr media
Bendith - Bendith EP (Aficionado) Maybe the best release all year. Like a Welsh, mostly acoustic Espers…but better? Baroque, medieval, psychedelic, sad, beautiful. Every track is a standout, including an excellent rendition of the traditional Japanese Takeda lullaby. But it is “Cân Am Gariad”, a cover of Lesley Duncan’s “Love Song”, that brings me to tears.
Tumblr media
Earth Trax x Newborn Jr. - Mirage (Les Yeux Orange) The B-side is really fun, getting to hear Newborn Jr strike out alone on a looped country fried jammer bringing to mind Todd Edwards, and Earth Trax laying down a burner. But the A-side is just monstrous, especially the title track. When those absolutely huge ravey chords come in and subtle acidic trails start firing…hands in the air.
Tumblr media
Max Manetti - Max Manetti EP (Über) Some awesome combo of Coyote and Mushrooms Project at their most horizontal, but also its own thing. Stoned out tempos, dubby basslines, tons of hand percussion, sun-baked guitar, and lysergic synths and vocal samples all over the place. Its all amazing, toes-in-the-sand beachy brilliance, but the b-side in particular kills.
Tumblr media
Modern Manners - Modern Manners 001 (Modern Manners) “Amor y Odio” is just so classic: sparse breakbeat and bassline, trippy synths, and mournful Spanish guitar (shades of Coyote’s “Eve”!!). “Running With Me” has a nice loungey almost bossa nova rhythm with tasteful organ, jazzy laid back guitar, and soulful vocals. “Instant Illusion” finishes with a playful bassline anchoring a relaxed downtempo drift. (MM 002 is also most excellent...bring on 003!).
Tumblr media
Mori Ra - Akebono / Tasogare (Balearic Social) Ive played these records ALOT. The most balearic of Mori Ra’s many great edits/reworks. A lot of it sounds like it could come from the early Cafe del Mar volumes. The AA side of Akebono, “Exodus” is a real stand out…hypnotic, floaty, and uplifting. As well as the A side of Tasogare, which is a jammed out jazzy banger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nancy Noise - Kaia (Beyond Paradise) “Kaia” should go down as an all timer, all desert swept acoustic, twinkly keys, and muted spaghetti western trumpets. Completely epic. “Azizi’s Dance” also kills it, with perhaps my favorite bassline of the year and those totally classic housey pianos. The remixes of “Kaia” are also on point, with Leo Mas & Fabrice grooving it out and Man Power throwing it all over a breakbeat and upping the cosmic factor. Also a lot of love for Leo Mas & Fabrice’s “Balearic Lovers” mix on the remix EP.
Tumblr media
Pender Street Steppers - Pender Street Steppers (Mood Hut) The A-side is jaw dropping and the standout is the synth-saxy house shuffle, spy movie guitar, and hazy vox of “Raining Again”. “Mirror (Dub)” is light-as-air dub that is really compelling, spacey, and easy to fall into. And just try not to tap your toes when the groove kicks in and that whistle melody starts in “Molto Bene”. The B-side has some excellent Hut-style house, but doesn’t quite reach the ridiculous heights of the A-side.
Tumblr media
Private Agenda - Dusk/Dawn (NuNorthern Soul) Both “Dusk” and “Dawn” are gorgeous, subdued, catchy, and immaculately crafted. The remixes are the real story however, especially Faze Action’s and Ron Basejam’s takes on “Dawn”. The former has the feel of a White Isle classic, with tropical and percussive synths, a bouncy beat, and Cantoma guitars. The latter gets so much glorious mileage out of a disco leaning break and a delicious sax line.
Tumblr media
Various - We’ll Sea Pts. 1 & 2 (Mireia Records) RSS Disco’s “We’ll Sea” lays a catchy vocal hook over an absolutely classic organ-led downtempo groove, and the sum of these simple parts wrenches my heart. Just timeless. “Porto” is more uptempo, with an awesome filtered bassline and mystical and soaring vocals. Conga Fever finishes part 1 with a loungey, noir-esque guitar/organ groover. On the A-side of part 2, the Marcus Worgull edit of Gil Scott Heron’s “I’m New Here” is sublime, layering his dusty acoustic and croon over a subtle and hypnotic shaker-led beat.

RTW Budget: Detailed Expense Breakdown for 492 Days Abroad
August 18, 2015 - December 24, 2016
492 Days Abroad
Trip Overview
Sylvie and I traveled through 221 cities in 39 countries over 5 continents.  We called hundreds of places our home and slept in more places than most will ever get to in a lifetime.  We slept in hammocks, in trains, in buses, in cars, on boats, in farmhouses, in teahouses, in hostels, in bed and breakfasts, in tents, on cots in the open dessert, in cheap guest-homes, in 5-star hotels, on couches, on a tile floor, on-top a chicken coop, on the ground next to a friendly German girl's bed in Mainz, in attics, in a rented room from an anti-Semitic in Belgium, et cetera, et cetera...
We each took 7 overnight sleeper trains, 26 overnight buses, and 31 flights.  I read 30 books and had 4 haircuts--although only 1 haircut was from a professional.  The other 3 were from my darling Sylvie.  We ate 144 fast-food ice-cream cones, though most were consumed in our first 4 months while in South America.  We bought dozens of new pieces of clothing and threw away/lost/mailed home a little less than that.  We taught English in Vietnam, helped to rebuild an orphanage in rural Nepal, and worked on a vineyard in Mendoza, Argentina.  We hiked quite a few mountain ranges--the largest being the Andes and the Himalayas.
Our Trip Route Divided into 4 Distinct Legs:
Leg 1: South America
Leg 2: Europe
Leg 3: Indian Subcontinent
Leg 4: Southeast Asia
View Full Size Travel Map at Travellerspoint
Mishaps
We tried to keep records of all our 'mishaps' but I know we forgot most of them.  At last count I had written down 20 of them.  Here are some of them:
ATM card was eaten by machine in small town of Piura, Peru
Had food and supplies stolen from us by a clever monkey in the Bolivian Amazon
A group of children tried to pickpocket Sylvie in La Paz Market - she picked up and they left empty-handed
Nearly stranded at the Bolivian border
Had a collections (inaccurate) on my account and had to deal with that while traveling
My Barclay Master Card was hacked in RIO and had a new one overnighted to me in Lisbon
Got items confiscated at UAE airport and were 'reported' to authorities
Left Kindle behind in Delhi hostel - was later mailed to me in Jaipur, India
Sylvie and I both broke our phones
Electrical surge broke Macbook Air while in Borneo, had computer repaired by sending to Bangkok
Lost credit card/ID in Serbia
Lost Passport while en route to airport in Krabi - had mailed to me in Chiang Rai following week
Sylvie left Kindle behind in Pyin Oo Lwin, Myanmar - RIP Kindle
Ailments
With the exception of being extremely dehydrated for a day in Delhi I never 'really' got food poisoning or sick.  There were times I felt a bit off and am not sure how sick I would have actually gotten but I just popped a very high dose of azithromycin and was fine in a few hours.  I've been to India twice, every country (less the Philippines) in SE Asia, spent a month in Africa and have never had food poisoning.  I eat uncooked street-food every opportunity I get.  I even ate a raw, still-beating, snake heart while in Vietnam without getting even the slightest form of indigestion.  There were 24 instances of being sick while on the trip (the vast majority of them revolving around dear Sylvie).  Here is a tally:
Sylvie:
TD - 11 times
Fleas - 2 times (possibly more, she loved petting stray animals)
Common Cold - 1 time
Bed Bugs - 1 time
Blister Rash - 1 time
Chest Rash - 1 time
Altitude Sickness - 2 times (1 time was very bad in Cuzco, but at EBC coca tea helped treat)
Scott:
Dehydrated - 1 time
Bed Bugs - 1 time
Common Cold - 1 time
TD - 2 times (took high dose azithromycin both times and warded off all symptoms in 4 hours)
RTW Budget
Notes/Comments
Budget includes 2 people for the first 461 days and 1 person for the last 31 days.
When there was any uncertainty/fluctuation in exchange rates or prices I rounded up to give a higher than actual estimate to keep the budget extremely conservative.
Every expense was tracked in this budget, even those that are not related to travel.  These expenses--such as the cost of website hosting, VPNs, etc.--were all captured under "Pre-Trip Expense".
The only expenses I had during my time abroad that are not included in this budget are my student loan payments
Though by American standards our type of travel is considered 'budget' we don't truly fit into that category by ex-USA standards.  We met many travelers spending a fraction of what we did.  We ate out most meals, stayed in hotels with a/c fridges and color TVs, and traveled around much more than most backpackers.  Many budget travelers stayed in hostels and cooked their own food (think pasta and sauce).  However we did take buses, trains, and ate at mostly budget-friendly restaurants or street-side carts.  For budget travelers I would say that you can cut our food, lodging, and transportation costs in half.
Sylvie ate meals more regularly than I did.  I was happy snacking on fruit and buying little things from cheaper street-side stalls throughout the day.  We always ate a nice meal for dinner though.
We are not big drinkers so most RTW travelers can expect to pay more on alcoholic beverages than we did.
We took many 'relatively' expensive trips during our RTW (Everest Base Camp, the 'W Trek', 3-day live-aboard SCUBA diving off Similan Islands, Bolivian Jungle trek, 21-day organized Colombian tour, Home-stays in Sapa, Trekking in Hsipaw, Northern Thai Yoga Retreat,  excursion to Borneo w/ associated national park fees and flights, etc).
We also enjoyed splurges many budget travelers couldn't afford to take (We rented a houseboat for 3 days, Stayed at 5-star hotels, took some high class buses/trains, Rented a car for several days, rented a motorcycle for a couple months, got massages frequently, had clothing made, bought extremely rare beer, took cooking classes, went adventure caving, hired private drivers, had food delivery to our hotel room, went to cinemas, saw theatrical productions, indulged in many cafe cultures, etc.)  These are just some of the things that many budget travelers would not consider worth their money.
We spent 3-4 weeks living with free lodging during our three separate workaways--Many budget travelers do less moving around and more workaways.
I've met single travelers living on less than $1,000 a month during their 12 month RTW trip.
I collected over several thousand dollars in sponsored products.  I had most of the gear already but received newer/better products, thus I would not have needed to purchase any of these items.  For this reason I have decided not to include these items in this budget.
Budget Breakdown:
I decided to break the budget into 4 sections.
Pre-Trip Costs - this includes gear, vaccines, insurance, memberships, transportation to/from US airports
During Trip Costs (Souvenirs) - this includes gifts/souvenirs, non-trip related purchases (non-essential clothing, cosmetics, etc.)
International Travel Costs - this includes travel between countries (mostly airfare but some busing)
Country Specific Costs - this includes all expenses relating to traveling/living within the specified country
1 - Pre-Trip Costs: The majority of Pre-Trip costs are not specific to this RTW trip.  Vaccines, gear, and electronic equipment can/will be used beyond the scope of the trip.  Vaccines and meds can be obtained while traveling and at a fraction of the cost here in the US.  Likewise, gear can be found on Craigslist or during your trip much cheaper than buying new here in the US.  Additionally, we paid nearly $1,500 for the Japanese Encephalitis vaccine, which I would recommend against.  For these reasons I am discounting this portion of the budget by 50% to get a better representation (we will be using all the gear for our next trip).  Therefore I will be using $2,648 for this portion of the budget
2 - During Trip Costs: These purchases are non-essential and not related to travel and will be ignored when calculating the overall cost of our RTW.
3 - International Travel Costs: This portion of the budget shows how affordably one can travel around the world.  Flights, trains, and buses starting and ending within the same country were excluded in this section.  They can be found in the next section.  We traveled through 39 countries, which is many more than most travelers.  This portion of the budget can likely be reduced by traveling through fewer countries.
4 - Country Specific Costs: Once we arrived in a country any/all expenses we faced were placed in this section under the respective country.   Flights and other modes of transportation starting and ending within the same country are found here.  Phone/internet charges, travel-related medicines, visa fees, tours, etc. can be found in this section.  This section is further divided into 8 categories:
Lodging
Food
Transportation
Activity
Alcohol
Visa
Tours/Tips
Supplies/Misc.
So How Much Did It All Cost?
Putting it All Together
Pre-Trip Costs - $2,648
During Trip Costs (Souvenirs) - $0
International Travel Costs - $4,745
Country Specific Costs - $36,414
Total RTW Trip Cost = $43,807 ($89/day)
for less than $45/person/day we traveled very luxuriously around the world
Budget Deep Dive: An In-depth Analysis
Would you expect anything less than an in-depth analysis from a consultant (who is also an engineer)?  Here we go!!
Costs by Country
Below is a table of all the countries we visited, the duration spent in each location, and the total spent.  For simplicity we lumped countries in Western Europe together, as well as countries in Eastern Europe.  A few notes on a per country basis:
Colombia -  We were on an organized tour for the entire time while here.
Ecuador - We were on an organized tour for some of the time while here.  We mountain-biked volcano, took 12 hours (each) of private Spanish lessons, and took a private tour to Isla del Plata.
Peru - We spent 8 days on organized hiking tours to Machu Picchu & Colca Canyon.
Bolivia - We spent 7 days in the Pampas & Rain Forest & 3 days taking a tour of the Salt Flats.
Chile - Much of our time here was hiking through Patagonia
Argentina - We took expensive long-distance bus rides (38 hours), several internal flights, and several organized trips to various glaciers.  Saved money during our 10-day stay working on Mendoza vineyard.
Brazil - Was not here long enough to offset high costs of visas (~$290)
Casablanca, Portugal, and Spain - Spent 14 of the 17 days with parents.  They paid majority of expenses.
Western Europe - Ate out majority of meals & moved around often.  Spent an average of $45/day on food & transportation.  While lodging cost  us an average of $27/day.  We spent the most here, vs any other country, on alcohol ~ $4.50/day on mostly German and Belgium beer.
Eastern Europe - Used Airbnb more often.  Spent an average of $22/day on lodging, $20/day on food, and $17.50/day on transportation.
UAE - Stayed at filthy dorms in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi that still cost us $25/day (and that's after $80 in Airbnb credit and refunds).  Everything was expensive.  Tried to eat cheap but still spent $25.50/day on food.
Nepal - Did not move around much.  Spent 5 days rebuilding orphanage (paid $10/day).  We trekking to Everest Base Camp (rented gear, paid for airfare, hired porter, etc.).  Click here to see trip notes, budget, and planning for Everest Base Camp trek.  Transportation, food, and supplies are higher than typical because of EBC.
India - Most of our activities involved visiting mosques, temples, and forts.  Taj Mahal was relatively expensive.  We hired a houseboat and a crew of 3 for 3 days in Kerala.  We ate out a lot and not always at budget places.  The food was amazing and we wanted to explore as much as we could.
Indonesia - I received my SCUBA certification here.  We took a private excursion to Goa Jomblang Caves, which was pricey.  We also took expensive cooking lessons & surfing lessons.
Singapore - Very expensive.  spend $28/day on food.  Saved money by spending 2 of our 4 nights couchsurfing.
Malaysia - Spent 1 week in Sabah, Borneo and 8 days in Sarawak, Borneo which required a handful of flights.  Food was amazing in this country so we ate a lot.  Adventure Caving and park fees increased our costs more than what you would expect for Malaysia.
Thailand - Spent a lot on SCBUA diving (see liveaboard trip) and ~$840 on a 4-day yoga retreat.  Parents spent 2 weeks with us, which helped offset cost in this country.  I spent my last 31 days renting only 2 places, which also reduced transportation costs in this country.
Cambodia - Angkor Wat and the Elephant Nature Park in Mondulkiri were our largest expenses.
Vietnam - We slept for free during our workaway.  I wanted to try Dog and Cat meat (as well as eat an entire snake in Snake Village outside of Hanoi), which were relatively expensive.  We traveled to the far north, which required extensive transportation.
Myanmar - We spent more money that usual on activities.  We had a private boat for a tour around Inle Lake. We hired a private driver while in Mandalay.  There was a hefty fee to enter Bagan.  We also paid to enter the oldest Buddhist temple in the world as well as hired a private guide to trek through the small villages near Hsipaw.
Monthly Costs
The first 4 months of travel consisted of many organized and expensive tours/excursions (+ remote travel and gear rental for Patagonia, see below).  From January through March we were in Western and then Eastern Europe.  During April we visited Everest Base Camp, which cost us ~$1,400 for just under 2 weeks.  For the remainder of the trip, which we spent in India and SE Asia, we averaged $1,800/month.  The month of August was relatively expensive due to our trip to Borneo, which required 4 flights each plus park/activity fees.  During my last month, which I spent alone, I did not move around much, and took very few excursions, which is why I spent so little.
Patagonia Budget
During November and December of 2015 we spend 24 days in Patagonia.  We spend a total of $2,645, which is an average of $110/day.  This includes all tours, supplies, and transportation (many long-distance buses and 3 flights each).  For this calculation I took Santiago, Chile as our starting point and Buenos Aires, Argentina as our ending point.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Cumulative Total Spend
Below I re-posted the 4 sections I described above, this time including every dollar spent (even the non-trip related expenses)
Pre-Trip Costs $5,295 | During Trip Costs (Souvenirs) $4,708 | International Travel Costs $4,745 | Country Specific Costs $36,414
The country specific charges were the only expenses that were routine, normal, and able to be extrapolated.  For this reason I held the other 3 segments flat and charted the cumulative amount for country-specific costs (see chart below).  This allowed me to trend out/predict--using the slope--the rate of our spending throughout our travels.
You'll notice that the first portion of the chart shows a steep slope, which is due to our 21-day organized tour through Colombia.  The last month flattens out as I slowed down my pace of travel.
Total Daily Spend and Cumulative Running Daily Average
Below is a chart with quite a bunch going on--though I'll walk you through it.  The solid green line represents the money that we spent each day.  The peaks show expensive activities/tours, visa fees, and other various splurges whereas the valleys are representative of days we  spent very little.  The dashed green line is a 4-week running daily average,  which shows the average of the preceding 28 days.  This line is helpful as it averages out the expensive and in-expensive days to yield a more stable line.  Both of these green lines use the axis on the left.
The next two lines use the axis on the right of the chart. The solid red line represents the average daily cost of travel.  Unlike the dashed green line the red line is a running cumulative average, which means all prior days are included.  Our cumulative daily average starts relatively high and decreases with time due to our initial 3-week organized tour in Colombia as well as many of our SA excursions, which were all quite expensive.  However you see that our cumulative running average steadily decreases with time as you would expect since we were spending ~$60 once we left Western Europe.
The Dashed orange line shows the average daily cost of travel by month.
Comparing Daily Costs of Select Countries with Overall Average
The budget I built allowed me to select, from a drop-down menu, the average daily expenses by category of 3 countries that I wished to compare.  I also graphed the overall daily average using info from all countries.  In the example provided below I selected Western Europe, Vietnam, and Myanmar.  Along the left-hand side of the chart is a color-coded key indicating various categories.
In this example you can see that Lodging was our biggest expense in Western Europe while food was our largest expense in both Vietnam and Myanmar.  Food and lodging alone cost us almost $50/day in Western Europe.  Unlike Europe, Vietnam and Myanmar both required visas.
Budget Summary Page
Here is a the summary page for the budget I built.  Please help yourself and download the budget tracker--I only ask for a small donation.

Shout Factory Announces Perfect Blue Home Video Release For March of 2019
After first being outed by errant retailer solicitations in November, Shout Factory has officially announced the imminent and long-awaited home video re-release of one of the most striking and intense Japanese animated films in Perfect Blue. The 1997 film was considered a sleeper hit, a critical darling that found appeal with Hollywood as well as critics that normally shunned animation as a medium for serious and gripping stories, one of the more notable to praise the film being Roger Ebert.
The film was initially released in the West by Manga Entertainment in 1999 first in UK theaters and later on VHS, then received a barebones DVD release in 2000. The film fell out of print shortly before Kon's passing in 2010, remaining relatively unavailable before earlier this year when film distributor GKIDS announced limited theatrical screenings across the US and Canada held in September.
  GKIDS describes the film:
Rising pop star Mima has quit singing to pursue a career as an actress and model, but her fans aren’t ready to see her go... Encouraged by her managers, Mima takes on a recurring role on a popular TV show, when suddenly her handlers and collaborators begin turning up murdered. Harboring feelings of guilt and haunted by visions of her former self, Mima’s reality and fantasy meld into a frenzied paranoia. As her stalker closes in, in person and online, the threat he poses is more real than even Mima knows, in this iconic psychological thriller that has frequently been hailed as one of the most important animated films of all time.
