Revelation that the key to understanding Godzilla is that you must understand it is wrestling. It is wrestling. The good guy monsters like Godzilla, Anguirus, and Rodan are the Faces who you always root for because they’re YOUR GUYS. The bad guy monsters like Ghidorah and Gigan are the Heels who act like assholes and yell things like “it doesn’t matter what you think!”. The good humans like Miki and Serizawa and the Shobijin are the Jim Ross-style announcers and interviewers who comment on the match or chat with the wrestlers between fights. The bad humans and evil aliens are the corporate guys like Vince McMahon, and the giant robots like MechaGodzilla are what happens when they decide to get in the ring themselves. Rival kaiju/toku series like Gamera or Ultraman are rival wrestling companies and underground circuits. Baby Godzilla is Hornswoggle.

Inktober 2023 Day 26-GOLDEN BAT REBORN!💀🦇
In life he was a heroic warrior sorcerer of Atlantis; now, a century later, he is awoken from tomb to continue his task as the all-powerful super-mummy: the GOLDEN BAT!! Aided by a pair of sibling children and their scientist father, Golden Bat seeks to save the world from the forces of evil, most notably, the fiendish masked supervillain: DR. NAZO and his many minions and monsters!
-My spin on Japan’s fist superhero is mainly based on the original 1933 kamishibai versions of both him and Dr Nazo, but with a few twists! Would love someday to make a comic of this guy, has so much potential to work with!

Episode 23 was OK, just OK. There weren't a lot of standout character or comedic moments that I've come to expect from the show, and I'm not to fond of adding yet another complication to the plot right near the end, but it did show the team cares for one and other. On the plus side, we got some good Earth Garon action, and I suppose I can't be too upset that we're accelerating to the final conclusion of the show.
I might rank this higher if it weren't for the fact that the couple of episodes before this one were excellent.

Shin Hayata and The SSSP
Tumblr media
After The Ultraman’s first initial appearance orbiting the planet in 1966, Operation-Ultra was immediately put into place. Operation-Ultra was an act formed to both keep secret and defend humanity from the existence of extraterrestrial and otherwise supernatural threats. Eventually the Government Agency dubbed The SSSP (Special Science Search Party) was formed, made to specifically deal with Operation-Ultra. The secrecy of both Operation-Ultra and the SSSP would completely dissolve after The Ultraman would make contact with the earths surface as it did battle with another new extraterrestrial.
Pictured above is SSSP Agent Shin Hayata, a rather new recruit of the Agency, but is quickly raising in rank with how efficiently they handle Extraterrestrial and Kaiju organisms.

Zone Fighter Thoughts #01: "Destroy the Terror-Beast Missile!"
Tumblr media
Hey all, welcome to rainofkaiju! A place where I plan to make semi regular posts of my toy photography, fan fiction and reviews/ musings of kaiju related media.
To start, I decided to make my first entry about an often forgotten about character: Zone Fighter, the Meteor Man.
Debuting in 1973 (after Godzilla Vs Megalon), it was Toho's attempt at capitalizing on the Ultraman phenomenon. Needless to say, it didn't catch on. There's plenty of other places 'round the web that offer more information, so I'll keep the intro short!
Im going to review/ react to each of the 26 episodes of this series. 2023 is his 50th anniversary afterall. And, I've never seen it. Alas, it will be in an order of my own preference, not exactly chronological.
It's an open secret that Toho included a few marquee names alongside the titular hero. Those being Gigan, King Ghidorah and of course, Godzilla! We'll cover the Zone Fighter solo episodes first, then the guest-starring ones last, leaving off on an epic note.
Join me on this journey as we get to witness a forgotten hero in his fansubbed glory, and hopefully convince Toho to bring him back. (Instead of just a Keychain. Lol.)

Let us begin!
Tumblr media
We hear Godzilla in the first like 10 seconds! Albeit for the wrong monster... he uses Kong's later.
Awesome theme song, and a great moody score to boot.
An interesting concept of an alien refugee family saving the world in secret.
Some great Kamen Rider esque fight choreography in the human battles. Really digging Hikaru's moves.
This brings us the debut of....
Tumblr media
"CANNON TERROR-BEAST" Red Spark!
And, well... meh. Sparkler noodle hands sadly aren't very impressive.
Cool night fight tho.
Zone Fighter himself is pretty neat. Also, a tad creepy with his lit-up eyes in the dark.
But, that's not all! We get the other monster in the episode...
Tumblr media
"MAGNETIC TERROR-BEAST" Jikiro!
Now this is a cool kaiju. Unique mecha design, and certainly more memorable than Red Spark. Still doesn't stand a chance against Zone Fighter's Meteor Missiles however.
My fav bit in this entire episode was when Jikiro uses his magnetic pincer to grab hold of a commercial plane. Really good editing, very suspenseful the way the passengers are saved in the last second, as the plane gets yeeted into the night by Zone Fighter.
Never have I seen such a toyetic series shown in such a short amount of time. Jam-packed in 20 minutes. Space stations, spaceships, henshin devices, two kaiju, multiple transforming heroes, a flying fucking car, and the best ever:
Tumblr media
ZOBOT!!!
a communicator, drone, weapon, this little guy can do it all. Must've been the coolest shit for kids in the 70's.
All in all, a fantastic start IMHO. One of the most entertaining first episodes from the showa Era of tokusatsu.
Join us next time for Zone Fighter episode 02: " Attack! Destro-King!"
Don't miss it!
