when dab and evan go to the onsen and inevitably skinny dip (again) either Dan or Phil will make extremely erotic noises and it will be traumatizing

dab will "accidentally" flirt with someone in a mascot costume at the onsen

evan will get terribly injured/cursed on the ski slopes (leaving him double-cursed)

someone will die of cold on the mountain and dnp will frantically try to see if evan can do anything about it because he's a doctor but he can't and devan end up befriending their ghost

phil will make them woohoo like...3 more times

dan will make up more lore about devan's sex life and it will be extremely specific and unsexy actually

What I can’t stop thinking about from yesterdays video is the bamboo painting phil’s dad made for them… like it’s so beautiful and it must’ve taken him hours and hours to make and it’s so specific… it’s a painting of a picture they took when they were on their 10 year anniversary vacation… they keep referring to it as the best trip they ever had too like… don’t tell me they didn’t get engaged there…

japhan 2.0 was first mentioned in one of phils 2019 liveshows! they went in nov of 2019 here is the compilation :D

i think they talked a little bit about it in one of the stereo shows in 2021 unsure which episode, but wrt visiting japan again dan said something along the lines of "we had such a perfect experience that im worried that returning to any of those places might ruin the memories" something along those lines. also phils dad painted a photo that they took of bamboo trees and it is proudly hanging in the green """"phil"""" bedroom

ALSO. and this might be just me. it is the only japhan trip that they did not refer to AS japhan. 2015 they said japhan, 2023 they said japhan, but not 2019 🤔 not that they didnt love the other two trips, but this one was special 🤔🤔 the year they came out as gay 🤔🤔🤔 the tenth year of them first meeting 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Phil: I've only had good memories from Japan. Like, whenever you go on a trip, there's always something that's annoying and something goes wrong, but EVERYTHING about our two Japan trips were just amazing.

Phil: We're scared to go back now because we kind of had the best holiday, so it's like oh my gosh.

Dan: I don't know how you feel about this, listeners, it's a life phenomenon. Have you ever had an experience that's so perfect that you never want to have it again? 'Cause you just know you're going to ruin the sanctity of the first memory? I had the same thing when I watched the movie Interstellar at the cinema.

Phil: Yeah.

Dan: I cried for ten minutes when I finished watching the movie Interstellar and I don't think it's the best movie ever made, I don't think it's my favourite movie. But it is the BEST experience I've ever had watching a movie, definitely at the cinema and that moment was so... epic that I'm afraid to ever watch it again. And now I feel the same about going to Japan.

Phil (in protest): I don't think it's the same with Japan as Interstellar though because there's so much left we haven't done. So it would be a separate holiday anyway. You know what I mean?

Dan: Would you be willing to re-tread the same experiences that we had last time?

Phil: No! I wouldn't re-tread.

Dan: Because that would be sacrilegious. Uh.

Phil: Yeah, I'd go to different places but there are some things we didn't do. Obvs.

what's the lore behind the kyoto engagement photo? like obviously dnp did not actually post an engagement picture, but i noticed that you mentioned it in one of your fics and then a couple of people mentioned it specifically in the comments, so i was wondering if it was based on an actual pic or something? thank you :) <3 (love your fics btw!)

there's no real lore and it's more just fun fandom theory that kept everybody entertained for weeks asdagdagskj

basically people like to say ~something~ (like an engagement or just a verbal private commitment thing) had to happen during the 2019 japhan trip. it was their 10 year anniversary, they'd just come out, and then afterwards said it was 'too perfect to ever recreate'

why kyoto? okay first of all watch these instastories from the kyoto leg of their trip (x) (x). the red maple pic has been phil's phone background since then, those are the trees that phil's dad painted for them as a gift. the mountain they climbed in the second video is what most of the engagement fics you've probably read are referencing. people clung onto it because of the privacy (dnp said it was practically empty by the time they reached the top), the views, and the clip of phil's face which made this entire goddamn website lose their minds like i cannot emphasize enough how much that was gifed.

basically japhan 2.0 engagement was an unofficial fic trope for a hot minute and it was beautiful
