hey! i know your blog is more about the naboo culture, but do you have any headcanon about the japor snippet that anakin gave to padmê? like the culture meaning in tatooine or even in naboo and etc
Hi!
So I've seen a lot of Tatooine HCs out there that interest me very much and so have not put a lot of effort into thinking of its cultural meaning on Tatooine - others have done that for me 😅
However, I do have some thoughts on what it means on Naboo / for Padmé!
So first off - Naboo really puts great value on and gives a lot of meaning to its cultural outputs — art, (holo)film, theatre, music, various kinds of crafts, textiles, etc. So I think, in terms of gifts of many different kinds, something that's been crafted by the gift-giver is given a lot of value. I think I talked a little bit about gifts of raw material earlier, and I think these would be a kind of opposite function — not for somebody you don't know well, making it a very personal gift.
Something that's been crafted well is of course important, but there's a value into the effort, too — the intention of offering somebody something you created is important. The intention of creating something for somebody, is in itself important.
So I think even knowing that Anakin can't possibly have that context, Padmé would have found the Japor snippet fairly meaningful, as a gift given from the heart, kind of, with the care and effort sort of embedded in it and part of its meaning, which would make it a very treasured gift.
And I think in context of Padmé having been incumbent Yidaruk then, the majority of her interactions with people who aren't her family or her nâdune would have been as Amidala, and being Amidala is a deeply impersonal process. It's a state of not being seen or known and not really being yourself. So I think, for her at that time especially, receiving something like that for herself, made with that kind of care and intention, would make it very special.
Regarding the snippet itself - it's carved wood, which would put it in a very specific domain — it is reecâ, or organic, made without elaborate machinery and made of organic materials, which make for fairly prized items. It's something representing Anakin's home, which makes it an object of remembrance (even beyond having received it from him).
And to get into it, though it definitely wasn't given with that sort of intention, there is a connection on Naboo between creation of art and creation as fertility, so she may see it as good luck to wear during her pregnancy!
And a bit of vocab because why not: the Japor snippet is a mindoto ri rushic (wooden pendant) that Padmé later puts on a chain and wears as a shindaj (necklace).
Thank you for the ask!

Here is my Padmé Amidala funeral gown cosplay that I have worked on for over 6 months!!! Absolutely loved working on this gown and cape, as I hand sewed on over 3,800 sequins on this cosplay, but it was so worth it in the end.
I remember seeing Amidala’s funeral in the theaters and balling my eyes out. Here was my favorite character of all time and she died! Even though she is gone her spirit will live on in her children.

I love the idea of Luke inheriting all these subtle things from Anakin, especially in a relationship. Like
- they both have a thing for curly brunettes
- picking their partner up and spinning them around (ROTJ!Luke would be a bit more gentle and subtle with this, but I could still see him doing it)
- cradling their partners’ faces
- carving Japor snippets or other trinkets (I like to headcanon that Padme started wearing all these pretty, but very handmade looking jewelry to meetings and hearings that Anakin made for her)
- Having a thing for dresses with big slits in them
- Gently rubbing the bare skin of their partner’s back when they’re topless/wearing something backless
- Absolute goner when their hair is played with (you know Padme gave the best head massages while Anakin sat there like 😵‍💫)
- It’s 3am here so I can’t think of more, but feel free to reblog with some!
We deserved more soft Anidala moments and to see Luke inherit more of his parents’ mannerisms. I feel like he’d love to know he was still connected to them in this way even after they’re gone.

Cinderella au where Luke gets hired in the imperial palace after he was orphaned and ran away.
He ends up as a servant in the imperial palace by some luck (he unconsciously mind tricked the hiring manager) and he has to do menial chores/clean up after the nobility - he quickly wins the heart of the other maids and cooks and servants with his politeness and sunny disposition. They always give him extra food when he stops by at the kitchen, ruffling his hair along the way.
But then - Vader stops by at the palace, and they draw a straw to decide the servant that's allocated to him, and Luke ends up drawing the short straw. (was it rigged? Maybe. Luke was small and easy to pick on after all)
And Luke's scared at first, thinking for sure that he would die, but Vader seems to be oddly warm.. and not that hostile (he reminds Vader of padme). Still, all the other maids are scared to death for him, gossiping about how Vader could kill without even touching someone, about how he could read people's minds and didn't like lying - people treat him like he's a dead man walking, pitying glances thrown his way.
Luke's resigns himself to one day being choked to death by Vader for some miniscule slip up, but until then, he's going to enjoy life to the fullest. So that's how, when given the opportunity to sneak into the imperial ball as a noble, Luke takes it - taking on the facade of luke naberrie, son of padme naberrie.. (she's dead, no one would check, surely? And she's from an obscure enough house!)
At the ball, Luke has the time of his life tasting all the fancy delicacies and watching the dazzling dresses move with the orchestra's music. Of course, Vader happens to overhear his name and instantly whips around to see who it is, but Luke's already gone, drawn by the chocolate fondue.
Vader spends the entire ball searching for him, but .. no luck, only thing he could find is a coat that Luke shucked off when things got too hot, with some odds and ends inside.
There's a japor snippet (this proves luke's heritage, to Vader. This is his son without a doubt), some mechanic parts (Vader smiles at the thought of his son also liking tinkering), a letter, scrawled to... Leia organa. It's not finished so there's no sign off, but he sees the dear leia at the top - and who else has that name?
So that's how leia has to deal with a sudden vader who barges into her lodgings at the palace, interrogating her about the letter. She recognizes it immediately as luke's, but she denies any knowledge out of fear that Vader will do Luke harm. Still, she lets slip the fact that the flimsi is from the servant's quarters .. and that's all vader needs to know.
All vader has to do now is match the coat to its owner and luke's so small, there's no way another man fits the coat - and that's how Vader finds his son.

Head cannons about…Padmé 💜
Part 1
Padmé.2008 🧚‍♀️
- Padmé loved to read in her free time.
- Padmé’s love languages are quality time, physical touch, and words of affirmation.
- Padmé used to get homesick when she stayed on Coruscant for long periods of time. However, when Anakin was at their apartment, she would feel more at home.
- When she had free time and Anakin was away, Padmé would organise ‘girl’s nights’ with her handmaidens.
- Whenever she had a speech, meeting or other senatorial event that she had been anxious about, Padmé would wear her beloved japor snippet

Letter M pleaseee!! 💗
Fluff Alphabet
M (marriage)
Now, having grown up in the country, Luke is a bit of an old-fashioned guy in the sense that he really wants to get married. He definitely would fantasize about his dream wedding as a little kid--most of all, he fantasized about having a partner to call his spouse, someone to love and be loved by for the rest of his life.
Luke is honestly the type of guy to just randomly blurt out "MARRY ME," but he makes an effort to make your proposal something really memorable. There's a pretty good chance he proposes as soon as he returns to Endor after the fateful battle on the Death Star. He's so ecstatic to see his loved ones--not to mention full of adrenaline after nearly dying at the hands of the Emperor--so he gently pulls you aside, gets down on one knee, and pops the question. Instead of conventional wedding rings, he made the two of you matching japor snippet necklaces with runes and symbols signifying love; to this day, he hasn't even taken his off once.
While Luke does have a few ideas--big or small, he definitely wants his family in attendance--he isn't picky at all when it comes to the details of the wedding. He wants it to be as personalized and meaningful as possible, so it can thoroughly represent how special your bond is and celebrate the wonderful marriage that is to come. My favorite headcanon is marrying him in the exact same place on Naboo where his parents got married (and then having your honeymoon there); he fell in love with the location the moment R2 showed him a secret recording of their elopement. However you want your wedding to be, at the end of the day, it's a really magical moment, and he's over the moon that it's one he gets to spend with you and cherish forever.
Okay, I think we all agree that Luke would basically be the perfect husband. He's a surprisingly domestic guy--Aunt Beru raised him right--and will cook, clean, and do chores without complaint. In accordance to his Jedi lifestyle, he likes to maintain relatively simple and neat living conditions. Frugality is second nature to him (growing up on a moisture farm will do that to you), and while he wouldn't mind at all if you prefer to have more vibrant spaces, you can always count on him to keep everything nice and tidy.
Disagreements are inevitable in any relationship, but with Luke, they never escalate into full-blown arguments. While he was infamously very stubborn in the past, he always makes an effort to never raise his voice at or be rude to you whenever you're having a disagreement. He believes in open communication and values above all else having enough trust in your relationship to freely share your emotions and differing viewpoints. Ultimately, you and Luke have such a strong, loving marriage, with the two of you inspiring each other to be the best versions of yourselves every single day.
obligatory shoutout to @dailydragon08 for helping me come up with ideas ❤️❤️❤️

angsty luke/andrie headcanons part 2 under the cut. as before these are all very depressing, and deal with some heavy subjects (tw for pregnancy loss and death)
because andrie’s force skills have been suppressed for so long, they are incredibly weak-and because they are so weak, she cannot feel luke (or really anyone else) if they aren’t on the same planet. during the events of empire when she is separated from her friends post-hoth, andrie has no idea where they are or if they’re alive for weeks. it is only upon her return to the rebel fleet that she reunites with leia and learns of han’s capture and luke’s maiming.
approximately a month after their wedding, and before they set off to investigate reports of jedi artifacts, andrie makes a request of luke which stuns him-she wants to go back to tatooine and see her family again. they’ve discussed returning before (outside of rescuing han), but it’s always facetious: luke has no ties there anymore, and andrie has quite firmly pushed hers away. after all she’s experienced, though, she feels the need to reconnect, to apologize…perhaps to explain. as she left the farm without a word, so she arrives without one, and asks luke to wait on their ship while she goes ahead. her uncles are astonished and thrilled to see her: after finding her gone four years ago they’d feared the worst, and seeing her face on imperial wanted posters did little to mitigate it. now she’s come back to them, a grown woman and a freedom fighter. they couldn’t be happier. unfortunately, there’s not much else to be happy about. andrie’s great-grandmother died not long after the battle of yavin, the farm is struggling-and zaria launches into a rage as soon as she sees her, branding her ungrateful and unfeeling. she reacts with anger to andrie informing them that she is training to become a jedi…and becomes absolutely apoplectic when andrie reveals that luke skywalker, the descendant of slaves who had so insulted the family, is both her teacher and her husband. though she brings luke into the house so that he might help her clarify, the resulting argument ends in zaria spitting at andrie’s feet and disowning her last living grandchild. and in that moment, andrie finally and forever lets go of her past. she bids her uncles farewell, pays her respects at the graves of her family, and she and luke leave tatooine for good. (as it turns out, luke wasn’t idle while he initially waited: he collected a piece of japor wood which he later used to carve a snippet for andrie, just as anakin did for padmé. she wears it for the rest of her life.)
the initial months after the defeat of the empire are happy ones: luke and andrie finally marry (as detailed in the fluffy headcanons post), celebrate the marriage of han and leia a few days later (luke officiates, andrie is leia’s bridesmaid)…and in about two months’ time leia and andrie both learn that they are pregnant. the new republic is just beginning to emerge. the future seems limitless. but just as leia starts showing, andrie wakes up one morning cramping horrifically, with her side of the bed drenched in blood. there is nothing that can be done-she loses the fetus. of course she’d known it may be possible she’d inherited her mother’s fertility struggles, but to actually experience it firsthand…luke soothes her as best he can, reassuring her that it isn’t her fault and they’ll try again when they feel ready. so the next year andrie conceives…and once more she miscarries. she begins to wonder if, perhaps, it simply isn’t the will of the force for her and luke to have children. and when she loses a third pregnancy in 7 ABY-this time the hemorrhaging so severe that it nearly kills her-her husband readily agrees that this will be the last; he will not keep forcing her to endure this cycle the way her father did to her mother. andrie undergoes an operation soon after. they know this was the right decision, but part of them always thinks wistfully of the family they never have.
we know the next part of the story: luke and andrie establish their jedi temple, take on a group of students (including ben solo), teach them together as andrie ascends to knight and then master. though they can’t have children, they come to regard their padawans as family. the balance between teachers and spouses proves difficult to maintain, but they’d known it would be and work hard at it. they are perfectly content together-and ignorant of the gathering darkness within their nephew. after the temple is destroyed and their students massacred, luke makes the decision to go into exile…alone. from the start he has no intention of taking andrie with him. she begs, pleads on her knees, to not be left alone in the face of what’s coming, but he tells her he knows she can do this. he needs her to protect leia because he can’t anymore. she is the last jedi-he can no longer claim that title, and he is wholly undeserving of her. and as he turns his back to leave, for one awful moment andrie’s anguish and terror consume her, and she draws her saber on the man she loves. of course he easily blocks the swing-he’s luke skywalker, he’s the most powerful jedi who has ever lived, and she didn’t intend to kill or even injure him-but in the glow of their blades they gaze on the other like a stranger. and that is the last time they see each other for six years.
in the ensuing span andrie is, as far as the galaxy at large knows, the only remaining jedi. just as she did during the battle of yavin so many years before, she attaches herself to leia because she has nowhere else to go; though she will occasionally fight directly with the first order, her main priority is keeping her sister-in-law safe. the two women become even closer, a decades-long friendship strengthened in the grief of losing their husbands-although andrie angrily rebuffs the suggestion that she could divorce luke in abstentia for abandonment. their vows were sworn in the living force, and words spoken that way cannot be undone. for as much as she resents him for the fate he’s shoved onto her, for as many mornings as she wakes wanting to die, she still loves him…and that love is what moves her to accompany rey to ahch-to, to at least seek his help in rey’s training and the ongoing war.
the reunion isn’t precisely a joyous one. he’s angry that his exile was disturbed at all, let alone by them; she is confounded by his refusal to train the girl and still deeply hurt by the way they parted. at long last they have it out, spilling their pain and their fear on the green slopes of temple island over the course of several days. it’s raw, it’s bitter, but it must be done. for at last luke is persuaded to aid the resistance in their darkest hour, his force projection lending them valuable time to flee crait. though he is greatly weakened by the effort, he does not die-his wife and sister add their own power to his, and a small team is ready to transport luke off the island to receive the care he needs.
even after the end of the war, and the slow arduous work of rebuilding the jedi order with their new apprentice rey, it takes luke and andrie a great deal of time to rebuild their trust and heal the anger that drove almost impassable rifts into their marriage. at times it seems impossible, but they hold to the little motto they created in the early heady days of their relationship: “you and me, down the line.” and as they teach a new generation together, slowly allow each other back into their hearts and living space, their connection is arguably the strongest it’s ever been.
and now we rip the band-aid off: andrie outlives luke, and leia, and han, and nearly every other human she fought in the rebellion with. when her husband’s death comes at 78 (his body unable to cope any longer with his chronic injuries, his mind fully at peace with joining the force) she is with him, reassuring him of her devotion until his last breath. she’d known his passing would be painful…but she hadn’t prepared herself for the magnitude of that pain. for some time afterward andrie withdraws from leadership of the jedi order, leaving it in rey’s capable hands, spending her time in deep meditation and annotating the sacred texts for future masters, occasionally visited by the ghosts of the Jedi who proceeded her (including luke after a few years)-and consumed by mourning for the man she loved for 60 years. she sinks into so deep a depression that luke himself must plead for her to let him go, to spend the time left to her shaping the minds of the padawans and providing counsel to rey. to live for him, not slowly die for him. and until her own death at 94, despite the lingering weight of his absence, that is exactly what andrie does. the girl born largely unwanted and unloved on a tatooine moisture farm dies a venerated jedi master in the temple she helped to rebuild: a beloved friend, an honored hero, a surrogate mother, and a cherished wife.
and there we have it. as always, questions and comments in my ask box are welcome!

Force Ghosts should get to be at least a little bit freaky, right?
Sue me, I made Padmè a Force Ghost. She would be more akin to a flow of the river and the blossoming meadows than a person. The flowers in her hair bloom and wither and fall to the ground, littering the ground, all the while the ribbons churn and twist with her hair. The japor snippet is always on her person, bound to her even in death.
Anakin is neither himself nor Vader, he is both of them, Jedi robes sharply turning into leather and durasteel. Sometimes he is older, taller and as Dark in the Force as he had been once, yet in moments he can mostly show himself as a shaggy-haired youth that is young only in appearance. Ghostly flesh and durasteel dance around on him, neither even winning.
Qui-Gon bears the mark that brought him death. It has spread, the killer's darkness having seeped far enough into him to be visible. There is no way to hide the injury, the cracks spreading too far for that, sneaking over the outer robe despitehis best attempts.

KIT HOW MUCH LONGER AFTER THIS CHAPTER UNTIL THE FUCKING HEARTWRENCHING ANGST IS OVER
;)
i was thinking about it today and honestly i feel like it's only gonna be like 3-4 more chapters in total and then maybe an epilogue where obi-wan gives anakin a japor snippet of his own that's just the open circle symbol on it because he thought about it and he thought about it but that was the greatest symbol for love that he knows of
