On Heleus and the Jardaan
Y'all ever think about how little we actually ventured into the Andromeda galaxy in ME:A? I mean, we only really touch one cluster of the galaxy, and its considered to be "in the outskirts" of Andromeda. We only touch a single corner in all of ME:A. For reference —and yes while not all of them have groundbreaking, plot-relevant locations— ME1 has a total of 17 locations classified as "clusters," according to the fandom wiki. For ME3, there are a total of 34.
I only mention this because it raises so many questions, in my opinion. Questions that I know will likely remain unanswered, but I like to consider them anyways. For instance, the Jardaan. I can't remember whether it was established if they left Andromeda as a whole or if they just left Heleus. And if that's the case, did they evacuate to other clusters after deploying the Scourge, only to quarantine Heleus off? Did they just (wrongly) assume that the remaining angara would die off in their absence, but that was an accepted casualty of a bigger war being waged against an unnamed Big Bad™ or even against the kett? Because, if I remember correctly, it's basically implied in-game that the kett have a larger empire outside of Heleus, so it would make sense for these two major factions —one of whom, their entire way of life is built upon destroying others— to be at war. Maybe the Jardaan thought the kett were foolish for wasting resources in trying to recover Heleus, believed there was no way for them to possibly find anything like Meridian, not knowing what they left behind.
Then, there begs the question, "why make a sentient race?" What would they possibly have to gain from making the Angara? Slightly off-topic from the original point, but I like to consider it nonetheless. My current theory is that, the Angara are the Jardaan, in a way. The Jardaan has had to develop so much advanced technology, has had to incorporate it into their ways of life and into their very being (think of a sort of hybrid species like in the Trilogy's Synthesis ending). But this was done out of necessity. More importantly, to lengthen their lifespans until they are bordering on immortal. Why did they do this? Because the kett are taking more of their people in the galaxy at-large every day than they have ability to replace through reproductive means. They are a dying race, and they are on the verge of extinction.
They don't conduct research in Heleus to make the Angara. They work to make Jardaan, to preserve their people. It is why the Angara are compatible with their tech. It is why they wanted to make more worlds viable via terraforming. It was never meant to be a creator-created relationship. It was meant to be a relationship where they walked as equals, the Angara made in the image of who they were before the war. Because what bigger insult is there to an enemy that wants to destroy everything you are, than to live on in spite of them. Only, the Jardaan left, presumably taking some of their research and some of their people with them, and that is when those who were abandoned split off to form the people that we know as the Angara.

has anyone been thinking about the Andromeda Initiative stumbling into the galaxy far, far away like hi we’re from the milky way and we only just got our feet under us & made friends with the locals in one itty bitty cluster, wonder who else is out there :) and when they get their answer it’s sith and jedi perpetually at each others’ throats waxing poetic about “””the force”””. and the pathfinders look between each other like “damn biotics off the shits in this place”

Theory time! Correct me if I'm wrong on any of these counts:
The 314 number. Relay 314 was the back end of the Shanxi incident, no? Then Arcturus? As of most recently, human-controlled space?
The date indicates November 7, 2190; four years past ME3. Fits the timeline of rebuilding post-Reaper War.
Liara is heard arguing/conversing with a geth, that much is certain. Aligning with human interests, expecting blowback from the Council. She's in cahoots with the quarian-sounding captain of the Relay installation maybe? Bankrolling it in order to re-establish communication with Alec's ark, let them know to turn back?
The Relay itself is evidently no longer based on Reaper design, and is being built in human space, probably violating tons of council laws in the process (most notably the post-rachni declarations).
The geth being here doesn't necessarily indicate a canonized ending. The Andromeda Initiative mapped the sister galaxy by using salvaged geth sensors that the latter built out of a mass relay. No one's asking why the geth were looking at Andromeda in the first place, but if they were, it's not a stretch to assume some of them... went there. And that sensor? Do we know how old it was?
(this ties into a greater theory I have that geth really have been in Andromeda for much longer and are actually the progenitors of the jardaan and largely responsible for seeding life in and terraforming the heleus cluster, and possibly are at conflict with the kett empire. but this is neither here nor there)
Whatever the case, it seems like we're picking up post-ME3, and bulldozing a bridge to Andromeda with Liara leading the charge. The framework of the plot falls somewhere around those lines!

N7Month Challenge - Day 1: Archon
Scott felt the electricity running through his body as the Archon's strange voice was echoing through the room. It hurt, it hurt so much, but Scott tried to push through. They were linked, somehow, he didn't understand how, but he could hear the Archon's thoughts. They were loud, overpowering, and he didn't understand them. But the Archon liked the sound of his own voice, liked to put on a show. It gave Scott a window to act, to help his sister push through the Kett towards the central chamber. To help her push through to him.
But during the fight the Archon managed to gain the upper hand and used Scott to get access to the Jardaan network. Pain soared through Scott's body as he fought against the Archon's hold, but the architect rose despite his efforts. But again, the Archon was too greedy, too confident in his victory. Scott was able to help Sara again, unlocking the terminals so she could divert the power.
The Archon struggled, trying to frantically disconnect from the system, but it was too late. Scott could feel the pain soaring through the Archon's body as if it was his own and he felt the Archon's conscience slip away. Then, for a blissful moment there was nothing. No voices in Scott's head, no pain, it was just him as the Archon's body went limp.
It was like the world came crashing back and Scott gasped. He could feel again, think. He could feel his head throbbing from the effort to mentally fight back, he noticed he was shaking and he could hear nothing but the blood rushing in his ears.
He fell into his sister's arms when she finally made her way up to him. He wished he could have walked on his own, but beggars can't be choosers. He was lucky to be alive and he knew it.
You can find a collection of all my N7 Month drabbles on AO3.

10 fandoms, 10 characters, 10 tags:
Basic rules: choose 10 fandoms that you are part of/support, and choose a favorite character from each of those. Then, tag ten folks!
Tagged by: @jigschosai @sealrock @reikatsukihana and @sasslett! Thank y'all :'D
This is not ordered by how much I'm into them, they're just in whatever order came to mind :) I will caution that I don't tend to choose favorite characters, I'm more of an OC maker. Feeling chatty, so I'm putting the actual list under a cut. You're welcome.
1. FFXIV : Pretty self-explanatory for the xiv sideblog. Since I'm not as in to the MSQ, I don't think I actually have a favorite character (which I know is illegal, I'm sorry :<). I really love seeing what the community does with the characters, though!
2. Halo : The storyline went to hell long ago, but I do still adore the original trilogy and constantly mine it for gpose captions. It was basically what I lived off of in high school. If I had a tumblr back then, I'd have been insufferable. Favorite character is easily Rtas 'Vadum.
3. WoW : Kind of. Asterisk. I really only know Classic, and even then, I'm way more Horde than I am Alliance. I have approximate knowledge of many things. No favorite there either - I'm all about the world and making OCs. We have two concurrent WoW tabletop games running at the moment, so this is where most of my headspace is. Their shared timeline is different from the canon, so I'm not really in the fandom per se.
4. Mass Effect : Alien dating sim, my beloved. I even enjoyed Andromeda (jump jets implemented perfectly, fun combat, the Jardaan reminded me of Forerunners). If you ask me to choose a favorite, I'll cry. How is a mother supposed to choose between her two sons (Legion and Grunt)? Drack also gets an honorary mention for his 100s of low res pictures of guns email.
5. Elder Scrolls : Mostly Skyrim, some Oblivion. I know, I'm one of those fans. Anyway, I've probably played over 1k hours of Skyrim by this point and yet. And yet! I don't have a favorite. The entirety of the Companions? I just wish that the faction questlines in Skyrim weren't "you killed 3 wolves and have been here a week. You lead us all now", but it does give me good scaffolding which. As an OC fiend. Grabby hands.
6. The World Ends With You : This game made me good at calculus in high school. My favorite character from here is Sho Minamimoto, and I was a completely normal teenager who dealt with that by doing calculus problems for fun. Turns out, the trick to get good at math is repetition.
7. Pokémon : Probably my earliest fandom. Still play the games now and again, just got Legends Arceus (super late, I know), and that's been a lot of fun. My favorite character from the franchise is Sinnoh's Rock type leader, Roark. I had a long-running sideblog dedicated to the Sinnoh region because gen IV is my favorite in general! It's inactive at the moment.
8. Guild Wars : 2, to be more precise. I started playing about a month after release, and since it's f2p, I still drop in from time to time. Like every MMO, I have no favorites. I really love playing Sylvari, though! (The glow!! The nightmare!! The [[Heart of Thorns spoiler!!]] They're just so neat)
9. Star Trek : we're now getting into "shows I watched and didn't hate" because I'm definitely not in the 'fandom' for Trek. We've been going through the old series as a way to wind down before bed, starting with TNG. We're on Enterprise now, and I'm sad that it got canceled. Still will probably have a better ending than Voyager. I don't have a favorite, but I can tell you that the writers' collective favorite must be either Seven of Nine or Data.
10. Uh. Various anime? I can't say I've recently loved any particular series to the point of fandom, but as a whole, I've been a weeb since I was in middle school. "Recent" series that I've enjoyed have included Mob Psycho and Love is War. Coincidentally, they both saved the most banger opening for their third season.
We had to stretch a little bit, but we made it to ten! Proud of this community (this community is my brain desperately trying to remember 10 things I like)
Have no idea who's been tagged in this, so if you've done this, please ignore! Or reblog it again!

Pissed off that we'll never get a proper follow-up to Andromeda. We'll never get to meet the Jardaan and explore their whole deal, never get to really get into the details of the vaults and everything.
All because they rushed out a game and ditched it

CONFESSION:
Andromeda was the game that got me into Mass Effect, I’d never played the original trilogy before they announced Andromeda and I was so intrigued by the story they presented. I loved playing through it for the first time, the characters were charming and diverse, the worlds were exciting and felt like real open places (but like sci-fi of course), and all the native stories of Andromeda were so cool to me, with the Kett, and Angara, and the Jardaan, sure I noticed the animations had some flaws at times, but that didn’t detract from the experience for me, and yes I noticed that, as a gay man, the initial romance options were a bit limited until they retroactively added Jaal, , and even after still, but again, there was enough for me to think “This is a good start and I’m excited for more” but then all the criticisms came in and I just felt awful that this game I enjoyed and that felt like it was meant to be a new chapter in the Mass Effect story was so universally trashed that I knew it was not going to continue for a long while.
I’m glad that ME:A seems to have gotten some love as of recent but it still feels bittersweet because of how hard the initial panning was in regards to it at launch, my fear is that BioWare just wants to forget that they even made Andromeda and will cut all but the most relevant bits from their new game with whatever Liara has going on now, Ryder and the Pathfinder Crew won’t be coming back and that just breaks my heart. I apologize for the long rant, but I’ve been stewing in these feelings for a long time and just wanted to get them out there. :)
Hey Confessor in case you missed this

Spoilers for MEA
*
Do you think the Kett are Angara’s? I can’t remember if that had been answered in Andromeda, but I was reading through the history of Angaran civilization and it said physically Angara’s are similar to Qaurians, Salarians, and the Kett.
Maybe the Jardaan created the Kett as well?Anyways it’s been awhile since I last played MEA so I apologize if these are silly questions.
I never got the chance to finish MEA because I had to sell the Playstation 4 and all my games for food money

I finished my first playthrough of mass effect andromeda....and now i don't know what to do 😭 before i planned to buy this game, my cousin's bf advised me not to. of course, me, being stubborn, and being loyal to the title, i bought and played through it, even during studying for midterms LOL. and honestly? it was fun. i love exploring the planets, turning on the vaults, drive through the worlds with the nomad...and the final mission? it felt like the trilogy. linear, other characters supporting you to get you through the archon, just like how shepard got through london.
I'm rambling, but it's so fun and I actually dreaded finishing the game (just like how I dreaded finishing the trilogy). I heard there's not going to be a story DLC for andromeda and it saddens me. I wish we get to explore meridian, the Jardaan, and even the quarian ark. I know it has a comic explaining what happened to them, but for me, that one tiny bit they did in-game where they received a signal from the quarian ark was such a cliffhanger. I'd also like to explore the kett too, where they came from, why are they doing the exaltation, what is its purpose....
Anyways, I'm glad I've heard of Mass Effect. I may be late to the party in regards to both the trilogy and Andromeda, but I'm really happy I discovered this game at this time and at my current age. I can say that I have found my favorite game.
So....another mass effect trilogy playthrough perhaps? this time, i'm correcting my mistake in ME1. That i, saving kirrahe.

Fandom is disgusting towards Andromeda :( I remember seeing people who liked it on release get sent threats by Trilogy stans.
I don't think I saw threats but oof did people pile onto it. like I can acknowledge it's flaws but once again I think people unfairly pitted it against a complete and full trilogy rather than just the first ME game. (and even then...c'mon, I love mass effect but the ending fucking sucks and some of the characters are done dirty and there are bugs and glitches in it still that they never even fix in the legendary edition. and it's not like the romances were perfect, andromeda def fucked up the writing for gil's romance but look what the original trilogy also did to jacob if you romance him, both deserve way better writing.)
I think it the trilogy hadn't come before it then yeah people would have liked it a lot more but andromeda was trying it's own thing while still maintaining it's connection to the ME world and it was a creative way to put the trilogy in a bubble where the choice from that didn't matter much to andromeda because it was years ago and far away. (though it always breaks my heart that the MEA krogans and quarians don't know that potentially the genophage is cured and rannoch is home again, like god...)
I just really hope the next ME game doesn't full out ignore andromeda or make ryder like how hawke was in DA:I, I want to continue the adventure with these guys still. (let me marry vetra!!!! and liam!! and suvi!!) I wanna know more about the jardaan and the kett and if there are any other new aliens we'd get to meet and the quarian ark and potential new squadmates...

everytime I play through any mass effect game I find something new
today's new discovery: there's an eezo deposit in the Sabeng system and the only info you get from it is that it's possibly from the destruction of a large starship.
...I'm sorry, from where? The Kett don't use eezo, and neither do the Angara. We'd have a record if it was one of ours. Which leaves the Jardaan. What the hell frikken vaporized a ship large enough for an eezo core that big that's still left, and why don't we get to explore the Sabeng system more for ruins

Ever since I had the thought that if I wanted to write a long story in English it would be a continuation for Mass Effect Andromeda, I was thinking about how I would do that, what I would want to be in there. And it's:
More of the Tempest crew and their friendships, exploring the stars together
An explanation for the questions the game left open regarding the Angara, the Remnant and the Jardaan
A solution to the Kett invasion which is still happening
I have some ideas how those points would connect and could work together as a story. I made up some explanations that I think make sense and would be interesting to explore, but it's all very rough yet and in no way story-shaped.
Would any of my followers (or your friends, if you know fans of ME:A, so feel free to reblog) be interested in bouncing off ideas in order to help me make this into a story?
You don't need to know anything about plotting, you'd just need to have knowledge of or interest in ME:A lore and interest in worldbuilding. I don't work well in a vacuum, and would appreciate having someone to talk with.

One thing I'm surprised I see little discussion about is the theory that the jardaan were themselves angaran. Despite the age of remnant technology you're shown at multiple points that the angaran people can still interact with the technology even though they have little understanding how. Their leading theory is that their precursors were benevolent enough to allow their creations to use their technology equally except... that's more complex an explanation then 'angaran = jardaan'
And also when you're played a bit of the jardaan language it sounds close to the language that contemporary angarans speak
