whether dandelion was originally intentionally queer coded or not could be debated, but i honestly can with confidence say that he definitely is regardless of intention ESPECIALLY when you look at how he’s written through a modern lense, and i feel like it is really weird how in twn they’re “trying” to not lean into the queer coding and denying it despite adding things not in the books to make it even easier to interpret jaskier as queer……
maybe it’s because they don’t want to make geraskier canon but like….. you can still make jaskier canonically queer without a gay ship being canon there’s more to being queer than romance
i have mixed feelings about geralt and dandelion/jaskiers relationship and dynamic as a whole in twn especially the contrast between the book version and the netflix version. i dont have a strong opinion on the changes in geralts character, but it feels a bit lazy when there is obvious room for character development especially in his opinion about destiny and his relationship with jaskier. also the “apology” jaskier got from geralt was really half-assed and jaskier deserves better i do hope things are made better in season 3
i’m willing to give the writers the benefit of the doubt for now, considering we have two more seasons confirmed, but the way it’s gone so far is really questionable and i want better

 WIP game.
I was tagged by the lovely @hopelessly-me a little while ago (sorry I’m late, I’m gonna give you extra as a reward)
Rules: Write the latest line from your wip and tag as many people as there are words in the line. Make a new post, don’t reblog.
Sorry this is Witcher and I don’t think you read that :(

“Okay, but somebody did it,” Eskel pointed out. “If it wasn’t the Cats, then who?”
“Would have had to be another school,” Geralt said, wrapping an arm around Jaskier as he sat down.
Gods, they were sickening. Lambert eyed Aiden, wishing he dared to pull the Cat into an embrace too, but it was too public for the Cat or the Wolf to feel comfortable with it. More Aiden, then Lambert, probably, but with all the new and strange Witchers around, even Lambert was hesitant.

Just a reminder that:
Joey Batey has actively combated scenes, information, plots, details and lore being cut from the show by including it in his songs.
Joey Batey has been the lead songwriter and composer for all of Jaskier's music since the start of the show. That's three whole seasons worth of music so far. That's six years of writing and producing music.
Joey Batey has embodied Jaskier as bisexual since day one, and actively admitted to having to write over 7,000 words across multiple emails (excluding phone calls and in-person meetings) to fight against the choices the writers and runners were proposing for the 'reveal' scene(s) and future scenes.
Joey was one of the first people during the video interviews to praise Henry after the DeuxMoi smear campaign and has displayed nothing but respectful support for him amidst the chaos. He also did his best to imply that Henry hadn't been fired, despite the active rumors otherwise and the blanket ban on addressing actual details.
Joey filmed the Rience torture scene for over twelve consecutive hours despite being in pain and feeling nauseated and experiencing significant mental distress and being in freezing cold temperatures, outside, in the middle of winter.
Has, without fail, always supported his female co-stars and had nothing but good things to say about them. Has never sexualised them once or behaved inappropriately, and always ensures they get equal press coverage when doing group or duo events.
Read the books, played the games and asked Henry to help him prepare for and portray Jaskier as an accurate representation of Dandelion and Dandelion's personality and characteristics despite the show's shoddy writing.

HOW IS THIS HAPPENING?!
Tumblr media
Jaskier goes to Brokilon to see injured Geralt. Says he'll wait for him when they don't let him in. Then IMMEDIATELY opens a song with MY LOVE FOR YOU WILL NEVER CEASE.
The writers are HANDING it to us this season you guys.
I am losing my MIND!

One of the many reasons Joey Batey was perfect for Jaskier, but only if Netflix had left their character alone. (That being said I do think him being bi is definitely within character, just not with bloody Radovid).
Witcher series one: "we have this bard. He's known as the finest in his generation. Is a friend to elves, a speaker of Elder speech, and is a lecturer of the arts at the prestigious Oxenfurt University. We wrote this song that we think perfectly encapsulates him. It has the line "He thrust every elf far back on the shelf". Let's get Joey Batey to sing it.
Joey Batey in real life: one of the best lyrical writers of at least his generation. Creates works that if removed from their music would be right up there with the poets of the romantic era. Writes a 9 minute epic about fatigue that would be perfectly happy in any fantasy genre. Is part of an astounding group of musicians including Madeleine Hyland who is a modern day trobairitz.

About bards and flowers or what’s up buttercup?
It's not the top of my skills. It's not even the middle ground. I'm too busy at Uni and by writing raports for my boss as poems. But that's what I did at work today. 'Cause we have to talk about Jaskier.
And i feel like my english is really terrible here, sorry
Tumblr media
Btw have you heard song’s from first tv show? Zamachowski may not look the part but please, listen:
Now let's move to more popular language, the one that made everyone explain who is Jaskier.
Tumblr media
A little confusing? Well, that's the translation that made most people know this character. But before English one there were others. For example:
Tumblr media
We get it, it's flower. And they didn't have courage to actually use translation of "jaskier" so they picked other flowers. But behold...
Tumblr media
When I created this all I could think about was how Geralt would make some mistakes... But a little explanation. When the first translation of Witcher came up in Czech Triss wasn't even introduced in stories.
And of course let's not forget that bard's name is not actually Jaskier. It's Julian (in Polish we pronounce it like Yulian) Alfred Pankratz Viscount de Lettenhove. And in Netflix show poor thing tries to say it in every season. The thing is the book Jaskier would never. He had some reasons to be honest. Like you need your heart to live reason.
Actually the 1st hint we get in Baptism of Fire (3rd saga book and 5th in general):
Tumblr media
It's the 1st time we even see name Lettenhove in books and as it may seems like he's talking about one of his lovers it's really "If my mother could see me now". Here I would also wanna say that if Netflix won't give us this drinking scene and Jaskier and Zoltan falling asleep as they hug I will riot.
And here he was making fun of long names:
Tumblr media
This guy was telling everyone about Geralt's love life and Ciri. But he didn't even say what's his first name is.
We learn it at the very end of The Tower of Swallows. And by "we" I mean everyone including Geralt. Also that's first time we hear that he's viscount.
Tumblr media
What he's full name it we learn at the end of very last book The Lady of The Lake. And that's also another scence that I demand to be shoot without any changes. Netflix, I'm looking at you.
Tumblr media
At the end I'll just say that there is one thing I find really cute. In many fanfictions I saw writers using "Julek" as pet name for Jaskier. And that's what we use to call Julians in Poland. It's just so so lovely that so many writers looked it up.
edit.
And btw I see many of you assuming that Lettenhove have to be a place. But it could just be surrname. In Poland noble titles were given to houses and not every surrname was connected to some town or village of same name. But at some point nobles wanted to emphasize that they're noble. So they started to put their titles after names and before surrnames. Normally it would be Viscount Julian Alfred Pankratz de Lettenhove. And Lettenhoves may have some lands, castles ect. But not nessecery the whole town. Or they could. But it could be of different name.

I started posting my first multichapter fanfiction and I can't stop refreshing the Ao3 page every 5 minutes to check for kudos etc. How do yall experienced writers handle this??? I feel like I'm going insane.
If you wanna check out my fic (it's geraskier) click 'keep reading'
"I'm choking from the taste but I can't help but swallow"
Summary: "There's too much at stake Geralt, it's not worth it. Go back to Kaer Morhen and forget about me."
"You're more than worth it Jaskier and I'll do anything in my power to get you out of this hell. Melitele help anyone who stands in my way."
-
Jaskier is taken by Radovid in the midst of his travels with Geralt and Milva. The Redanian king, changed from his recent ascent to power, is determined to get everything he wants, with Jaskier having the misfortune of being on top of the list. Jaskier as he spends time serving Radovid in the Redanian court, drowning in despair and losing parts of himself in the process, his only consolation being the knowledge that his friend was safe from the Redanian army due to his sacrifice.
Sometime after Geralt has united the north under his rule, he decides to pay a visit to Redania in the hope of reuniting with his bard. But Jaskier is not as he remembers, his psyche having been fractured in their time apart. Will the witcher be able to help him escape his tragic fate?
(Inspired by the song "Poison" from Hazbin Hotel)

Looking forward to the “Gerald plays it cool but secretly loves Jaskier’s singing” I can’t believe it’s not Fanon. That’s my favorite trope! :D Also who wouldn’t think Jaskier sounds amazing based on his Netflix voice at least!
Ask and ye shall receive!
I Can’t Believe it’s Not Fanon
Facts that sound like Geraskier fic writers made them up, but are in fact, book canon.
Geralt plays it cool, but he secretly thinks Jaskier has a beautiful voice.
We know Dandelion is famous and renowned. But singers aren’t always necessarily famous because they have the most beautiful voices. They can have decent voices and just be good entertainers, very attractive, have catchy songs, etc. But we actually know that Dandelion’s voice is enchanting. In fact, it is so beautiful, it has saved his life multiple times.
One time, it soothes a werewolf.
Right before dawn, while it was still dark, a hungry, vicious werewolf crept up to their camp, but saw that it was Dandelion, so he listened for a moment, then went on his way.
The Sword of Destiny pg 246
Another time, it keeps the dryads from killing him. The dryads, who kill any man on sight without mercy, spare his life because as soon as he is in arrow shot, he sits down and sings. Instead of killing him, a group of dryads emerge and listen to him sing. Then they demand that he sing more.
Geralt however, won’t openly express admiration of his voice. When he finds Dandelion serenading the dryads he says:
“Dandelion.”
“Geralt!”
“Yes, it’s me. You can stop that racket now.”
But later, we see that he knows which ballads are Dandelion’s and which belong to other people. So we know he pays attention.
“The concert you gave was clearly to their liking. Now you’re ard táedh, “the great bard.” They’re waiting for the next part of ‘The Flower of Ettariel’. Do you know the rest? It’s not your ballad, after all.”
Time of Contempt, p210-212
In Season of Storms, Geralt also stubbornly refuses to express admiration for Dandelion’s voice. It’s a hilarious passage.
“You know, you've never congratulated me on my ballads," Dandelion suddenly spoke up. "I've composed and sung so many of them in your company. But you've never said: That was nice, I'd like you to play that again. You've never said that."
"You're right I haven't. Do you want to know why?"
"Yes."
"Because I've never wanted to"
"Would it be such a sacrifice?" asked the bard, not giving up. "Such a hardship? To say: Play that again, Dandelion. Play As Time Passes."
“Play it again, Dandelion. Play As Time Passes."
"You said that quite without conviction."
"So what? You'll play it anyway."
"You'd better believe it."
--Season of Storms, pg 351
However, despite Geralt’s protests (honestly he probably just thinks that Dandelion has a big enough ego already lol), the narrator tells on him.
In Sword of Destiny, Geralt is listening to Dandelion and Essi sing and the narrator tells us how he really feels.
"Geralt lay on a makeshift bed of spruce branches with his hands under his head and thought he had never heard such beautiful voices or such beautiful ballads.
--Sword of Destiny, pg 245
So there you have it. Canon confirmation that Geralt thinks Dandelion has one of the most beautiful voices he has ever heard.
And I like to think that Dandelion’s music is one way he makes Geralt’s life that much better.
In stories set in medieval times with no tv, movies, or recorded music, storytellers and troubadours are luxuries.
So Dandelion is a luxury that Geralt can afford because Dandelion just needs some love and the odd adventure, and Geralt has plenty of both of those things.

I'm loving the new Jaskier song, but I've been sent down a rabbit hole and have an unnerving prediction for season 3, from a writer's perspective.
The new 'Ride Witcher Ride" song feels to me not only like a type of spell (possibly a resurrection spell?), but also like an encouragement by Jaskier to Geralt to get back on his feet and get Ciri back from the Evil Forces using his friends and family he doesn't want to admit he has.
My theory is that they're going to do a lose all hope situation here, where Ciri is captured and Yen is somehow incapacitated, and Geralt "killed."
Jaskier, of course, escapes or gets Geralt's "dead" body out of the danger and to safety, but because of his experiences with magic and Destiny (See Blood Origins), he knows that Geralt is going to come back and get Ciri. There's really no other outcome for him. It might even be that Yen and the inhabitants of Brokilon Forest will be responsible for bringing Geralt back from wherever his soul is trapped, and Jaskier will probably be there to help fill him in and then help him on his journey as he has been. Keep in mind that bards are the original historians, sharing crucial information through stories, poetry, and song (and Joey Batey absolutely kills this role).
My question is: Are they going to "kill" off Geralt as we know him (Henry Cavil) during season 3, so that when he is resurrected, they can explain his change in looks as new Geralt (Liam Hemsworth)?
OR
They're going to use this resurrection to somehow explain a slow change in his appearance? Almost like something is slightly off but you can't tell (thanks to the magic that is makeup and special effects).
While I'm generally displeased with Netflix's treatment of Jaskier, I do feel this will be a brilliant way to play off the change in Geralt's actor because even with makeup and tech, there's going to be a noticeable change. Also, it's an interesting way for them to include Jaskier here, not only because he is important to the storyline, but also because of the love fans have for him. So I'm curious to see how they deal with this as a writer.

Leak vs. Spoiler
The following is something I posted in the Facebook Sandman group. Leak vs. Spoiler
There seems to be some in-group confusion about leaks and spoilers.
This is a discussion group that allows spoilers though spoiler warnings are encouraged.
About twenty-four hours ago there was a "leak" of an image that Neil Gaiman did not want used to promote Good Omens season 2. Amazon may have had good intentions behind the using of this image considering its use in context but it was not something Neil Gaiman wanted and when Amazon found out his stance on it the image was quickly removed.
Neil Gaiman then asked fans to please pretend they had not seen the particular image.
Question: "Is it really a leak when it was done by an official source like Amazon Prime?"
Answer: In this particular instance, yes. Because of the WGA Writers strike, Neil Gaiman was not in communication with Amazon and someone in the Amazon Prime marketing department released this particular image without his consent. When they realized it was one he did not want seen yet, they hastily removed it.
Ironically at the same time this was happening I was happily playing the new Jaskier song from The Witcher Season 3. "The Ride of The Witcher." This was also an early and official release. The big difference is everyone involved consented to the release. It wasn't accidentally released early. Every country in the world got the song at exactly midnight on June 13th.
Question: Why is this different from the spoilers that are allowed in the group?"
Answer: Though a leak can be a spoiler, not all spoilers are leaks. Spoilers discussed here are from officially released content where the creator has not asked everyone to forget they saw it.
You might dislike spoilers but this is a discussion group and we do discuss spoilers (most of which are thirty-five-years-old). Spoiler warnings are encouraged but no one will be banned for not using them.
This Good Omens 2 leak was a single image that Neil Gaiman requested we pretend we didn't see. It is considered a leak because the showrunner / head writer / co-author of the novel that the series was originally based in had no say in the matter and when they found out he was not happy the image was removed.
There is a difference.

The blood origin writers really wanted to write a bard character so they opened ao3 and started reading bamf!jaskier fics
Like: the Lark, the voice of the continent, everyone knows their songs, left their life (the court/nobility) and family to become a traveling bard, (in love with a witcher), good with blades

hi! I'm here for the choose violence ask game and in case we could choose multiple, could I get 1, 3, and/or 6???
thank you!!
the character everyone gets wrong
Eskel. The majority of the time I see people characterize him as the better more emotionally mature Geralt whose very insecure about his scars. Essentially a nice sweet dude. I simply cannot vibe with that.
Now this is obviously a personal opinion but I just can't see how you get a guy like that out of the upbringing he shares with Geralt and Lambert and maybe Coen (not sure if its canon or fanon about Coen being from another school). Geralt very obviously reads to me as a fucked up and traumatized person whose trying his best with the circumstances he has. Lambert also is usually shown to have anger outbursts and bitterness over the way he was raised. I actually get really suspicious of a nice normal Eskel in fics because my brain just interprets that as him hiding something super fucked up about himself.
Shout out to that one fic I wish I could find again that had Eskel and this cannibalistic town and there was this song The Old She Hen Cackled. It was a great exploration of a fucked up Eskel.
to the nice!Eskel lovers out there feel free to tell me what it is you like about him. While not my vibe I enjoy hearing what makes people passionate about a character.
3. screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr
haha oh man one time I saw someone saying that Yennefer had no right to be angry about her infertility because she "chose" it. Baffled me to realize people weren't really watching her story just sort of skimming it.
I find her character deeply interesting so any hate towards her is just like, really? her? my special girl? no way lol
6. which ship fans are the most annoying?
well this ties in with my answer to number 3 but anytime I'm reading a geraskier fic and it starts minimizing Yennefer's importance to the story and to Geralt it is very frustrating.
I'm mostly a multishipper and I like any combo of the Geralt/Yennefer/Jaskier trio but sometimes it's tough out there to find stuff when you like all three characters and you feel that each of them plays an important part in each others lives regardless of shipping.
Thank u fic writers that put in the tags that you hate Yennefer so I don't start reading and then get unpleasantly surprised. I am giving you a respectful nod from across the room from one enemy to another.

Ok but when Radovid said his favorite song is “Song of the Seven” it took me forever to figure out he was talking about that Blood Origin song.
Are the writers that delusional to think anyone actually watched it, let alone remember Jaskier’s one song?
I even gave up halfway through the first episode, and to be honest, I was letting it play as white noise while I replayed Witcher 3….

In honour of getting though Witcher season 3 I would like to share with you my thought process while watching this show, not that anyone asked. Can you tell Jaskier is my fav?
Season 1
Me, seeing Jaskier for the first time: a baby! Must protect, already fave.
Me throughout the season: How are you still alive? And how are you not aging?
Me still at season one going through social media: oh, so you don't like Jaskier, huh? Square up bitch cos I'm coming for your ass. Also why the hell is he called Dandelion? Jaskier is a buttercup not a dandelion? Dandelion would be so fucking funny though [image of Sid and last dandelion of season vivid in my mind]
Me still on season one: ok I know we NEED to normalise closeness between two male friends but that's definitely gay, right? Like Jaskier just readies such dumbass bisexual energy and he so clearly is in love with Geralt
Me, during the mountain scene: Bitch, bitch, bitch how dare you [actually insert the Jaskier HOW DARE YOU picture] actually stops watching the show for like a week
Season 2
Me, immediately at the beginning: where's Jaskier? Where's my man? My child? Where's that idiot?
Me, after I see Jaskier: what have they DONE to you? But the songs absolutely slaps (talking about the whore song that was so funny)
The apology scene: Nope, nope, sir that's the most half assed apology I've ever seen
Overall season two: yes, yes serious matters and Jaskier is a comic relief but could you just try to give him some more screen time like bitch he's trying his best, he risks his life, he does some good, he loves Ciri and Geralt just fucking appreciate him! I know it ain't about him but for being Geralts friend for so fucking long I think he deserves some appreciation for his accomplishments from others characters, even a little
Season 3
Sees trailer: "Dear friend.." ahaha that's for Jaskier for sure! [Sees a blur of him] oh thank god he's in here!
Me, after seeing Jaskier: oh, god oh no. Why, why, WHY?! WHO they fuck took the game design?! Put it back I say PUT IT BACK!!!
Me seeing Radowid: *squints as he praises Jaskier, clearly flirts with him and actually appreciates him UNLIKE SOME PEOPLE* I want to trust you but that would be a mistake
Me, throughout the season: ah, so you finally admit that Jaskier is in love with Geralt who somewhat patched things up with Yen so you give Jaskier a new love interest, who is a man [icarly interesting image]
(listen I loved them this season but it felt like a weird sudden jump in their relationship and idk, by this season rocked I just wished they included Jaskier more and if canonicaly were not getting Graskier then fucking give him some screen time as a part of a family! He's great with Ciri!)
Also that Valdo scene was fucking HILARIOUS
Me when, suprise, suprise Radowid did a backflip: I knew it, why am I surprised, I knew it. Jaskier why do you have a TYPE?!
Final thoughts: Jaskier fits perfectly into their witcher family dynamics just give him more screen time! Please! also very curious about Radowid redemption arc although I'm not ready to let go yet, and also may I add the music, fantastic, don't care if it's periodic or not Joey my man you killed it.
It's clear that Jaskier has a type for like unrequited/getting hurt type of love or the writers just love whumping him which like fine but then make it fucking seen like by others? It takes a fucking plot device character in SEASON 3 to see it? like give me some fucking comfort as well you assholes.
Also super weird that they went with the game design and gradually changed it simultaneously ageing Jaskier. I mean why now? He hasn't aged in like a decade and then he suddenly did? Just keep him immortal will you?
Idk it's chaotic lads cos I just finished it and I think I've seen season 1 most times and the rest kinda blurs together so
