2022 was a year where I focused on improving and starting to like myself. To some degree I succeeded, in others I failed. I've taken the steps to improve my anxiety and I'm doing pretty well since starting taking meds. The anxiety is still there, but it's becoming a lot more manageable. As far as liking myself... let's just say that some days are better than others. It's still super easy to fall into that void and be so hard on myself, but I have better awareness as to why I do and how to manage it. Overall I'm in a better space than I was back in 2020 when my anxiety/mental health really went downhill.

This has however affected my online life and Tumblr. I accomplished pretty much nothing. TBH I think it was necessary to both begin focusing on my actual life and to just enjoy being online again instead of imposing these expectations on myself. I hope in 2023 I can begin doing more again, but no promises. I'm taking it day by day. It doesn't help that a lot of my fandoms either had their shows end (Amphibia), I've stepped away from for multiple reasons and plan to remain stepped back when things resume (RWBY, The Owl House), or I've just lost interest in.

Really I'm gonna be honest... I'm in a terrible rut concerning animation. There's barely anything I want to see. Recent decisions like with HBO Max severely impacted my enthusiasm. Some stuff like Bob Iger coming back to Disney helped, but overall... I'm at a low point. I've always been so passionate about animation... but right now it's dead. The last time I got like this when I was 13-14 I got into classical animation to reignite it. But I feel like I've explored every single avenue over and over. IDK, there's just nothing left to excite me and IDK how to reignite the passion this time around. Most stuff I indulge in nowadays are cooking shows, some documentaries, and RuPaul's Drag Race which I doubt anyone's interested in me posting about. I have been rewatching Ed, Edd, n' Eddy which has been fun so maybe 2023 will be better, but yeah... I just hate feeling like this.

As far as RL goes, we lost our dog Lovebug after sixteen years and that was hard. There's some other stuff with some relatives that has stressed me out, but for the sake of privacy I won't discuss it on here. There's also the multiple celebrity deaths/deaths of childhood icons that REALLY hurt. Gilbert Gottfried, Angela Lansbury, Mom McGrath, Emilio Delgado, Pat Carroll, Kevin Conroy, Jason David Frank, and those are just the ones off the top of my head. Otherwise, 2022 wasn't my worst year. There's been a lot of changes, both good and bad, but I've certainly had worst. 2022 was a rough but overall okay year. At least I made it to the end in one piece.

What's in store for 2023? IDK yet. I have some ideas, but I don't want to open up about it quite yet. I'm hoping to get blog stuff running more, but ultimately this is what I do for fun. I need to focus on my actual life. That was probably my biggest takeaway from this year. I also turn 30 in February, so... that'll be fun. I have something big hopefully happening that I won't talk about until closer to the time, but I am SOOOOO excited for it~!

Might be controversial but I feel like Nightwing and Starfire were that iconic couple that were on par with Superman & Lois and MJ & Spider-Man. Dick has been given various relationships since their break up so it is a lot harder to see anything with him as iconic because of it, but generally new relationships for him have been welcomed by most Nightwing fans. Jason has also been given various non-bat related partners and so far none of them have really stuck. Barbara has had non-bat relationships here and there but nothing anyone is really invested in. I can see people being invested in new relationships for Dick and Jason, but as for Barbara I can’t see that since most people aren’t interested in her outside of her partnerships with Dick, Dinah, or Cass.

The thing is that I just don’t think Dick has had any iconic relationship akin to Superman and Lois. And tbh, that’s fine! Becuase that’s means there is room for experimentation still with him and we wont be stuck with a terrible love interest just because.

And you are right about Babs. She is a Batman side character first and foremost and that’s where she belongs in my opinion. That’s not a bad thing. It’s gotten her to be more well known than Nightwing. It got her a solo live action movie. She is the third most adapted Batfam character. If anything, Babs needs to stay in Batfam and Gotham. Dick and Jason just work 100x better outside Gotham Atleast.

But my other unpopular opinion is that I want Dick and Jaosn to be more involved with other street level vigilantes and not super powerful beings from space or other worlds. I really think DC is slacking on the one thing they can actually do better than Marvel and that’s street level vigilante content.

how would you rank the seasons from least to most favourite?

alright okay right off the bat worst season season 7. for starters i think this season has no staying power i mean like since i’ve been running this blog 4 so long now my knowledge of charmed is encyclopedic and insanely vast more than like it ever need be but for the longest time. i could not remember season 7. like wtf even happened there?? evidently leo became human??? cole returned? the avatars??? like all of it was just. it’s not even necessarily forgettable it’s just i straight up could not remember it for the longest time. and i’ve said it before the concept of utopia was way to advanced for a show like charmed to tackle i am not watching charmed for moral philosophy i am watching bc i love these girls ♥ hee hee hoo hoo magic adventure ✨ tho if i am to offer a single comment on utopia: it’s awfully rich for a show to go on about destiny and fate and then take a stand against utopia in the name of free will. but w/e. i don’t like leo in the avatars i don’t like his dynamic with piper in this season i don’t like whatever phoebe’s doing this season there’s like leslie?? maybe there’s someone else? boring & flavorless they should have been setting up her endgame instead of puttering around. and kyle. zoo wee mama. could have been a great antihero. morally gray. duplicitous. self serving. but no. they gave him all those traits and called him hero/love interest. s7 left a lot to be desired out of the characters and their relationships also gave us phat L’s such as the charmed ones are werewolves don’t worry about it and feminism peaked with naked women. shout out to zankou: demon, dilf, dub & the noir episode.

you know what? fuck it i’ll say it second worse season 5 genuinely fuck season five. this is probably a Very Specific beef 2 me But. i hate what they did to the charmed universe. this was the season that marked the transition of charmed from supernatural drama to campy soap which like. i love camp! i do! but fr. fuck this season and what it did to the worldbuilding. the early season have Such A Vibe to them man with warlocks and witches and just a couple niche monsters from assorted lore that the show took and made their own. season five opens with mermaids goes directly into fairytales then gives us superheros whatever the fuck was going on in that mummy episode the sandman leprechauns and nymphs. and i hate it for that. it takes away from this urban fantasy things that go bump in the night what lurks in the shadows of the back alleys of san francisco in favor of the ugliest cinderella dress ever put to television and an onslaught of horrible irish accents for a full episode. other issues with season five: cole’s still here? why? they don’t know and neither will you! we’re not redeeming him! phoebe’s not getting back together with him! yes he died we just refuse to let him go! the cherry on top of course being a cole-centric 100th episode. shout out to. hmm. lemme think about what i actually liked about this season. i like jason dean as a love interest i don’t remember what he did in s5 but i know he was there. the season finale i’ve talked about how stupid & shitty it was but idc i still love that episode and then shout out to bacarra the only original villain this season that was a proper serve. the crone gets second place.

next on this come on we all saw it coming season 8. it’s a bad season! and i get bts there was a whole lot happening budget cuts missing actor etc. but it goes beyond that. it was a bad season. billie and christie were bad. and i’ve said this before but billie in herself is not an inherently bad character. she was just the literal worst for the show. she was a dollar store buffy blonde confident cocky skilled and ready 2 fight evil But. we are not following her like we followed buffy we are following her mentors. it’s like if we had a show called giles that aired for seven seasons And Then buffy showed up. billie was insanely irritating to watch from our perspective and in general wasn’t like. well written. attempts to humanize her / give her more depth often fell flat. and then christy. oh nelly. oh my god. barely a character. not well acted but hey it would have been a miracle if she was. negatives include dumain who was a mess omg bringing back the triad bringing back the source billie & christy obvi and also involving homeland security. which is season 7′s fault which is why it’s the worst. dubs on the other hand include both coop and henry i really liked them the shoehorned love interests weren’t great but i like their characters i though the way the got rid of leo to save on the budget was really creative and gave us a great piper episode and of course the sugary sweet finale i love it i do what can i say.

yet another controversial choice aptly coming in fourth is season 4. i respect what season 4 set out to do. i think it was a good idea. long form narratives, keeping a darker tone, focusing on character-driven drama and growth. too bad it fucking failed miserably at all of this. cole as the source and phoebe as the queen of hell was just so so botched. they had a very unique opportunity following the death of prue to explore these characters and what it means to them to be charmed, to be witches. they saved the world but the cost is insanely high. they’ve lost an older sister. they’ve gained a new sister. how do you even begin to cope with all this? episodes such as hell hath no fury and brain drain fuck so hard because they work with exactly that. had the whole season been like those episode season four would sit at number one with flying colors absolutely no competition. but alas. we can’t have nice things. the show got so bogged down with phoebe & cole, in a way that was just so, so messy. for starters, whether you loved cole or hated him before, we can all agree source!cole sucked. he was such a strong 180 from what we had seen that the show had to make the source some type of possession to justify half the shit they were trying to pull. and then to pit phoebe and paige against one another over a man was just. disgusting. and the ending of course felt rushed because it was! they wrapped up that entire issue in a nice little bow much faster than they reasonably should have been able to. it could have been a great season. it was definitely not. shout out to the seer an iconic mastermind on barbas levels, as previously stated brain drain and hell hath no fury Specific shout out to piper’s scene at prue’s grave shout out to paige as a character i like what they did with her and um. yeah that’s it.

okay we’re exiting the shit tier in favorite of the good tier welcome to the upper half. kicking us off is season 6. season 6 did what season 4 could not in that it gave us a long form plot that still left plenty of room for like. normal demon of the week episodes. i love phoebe early in this season with her faboo haircut her brand new empathy power and her relationship with jason dean. obvious strikes against for whatever the fuck that baby crazy stint was and also the mata hari episode. yikes. i love paige’s hair color in this season nothing paige as a character necessarily stands out to me however i like how they seem to have hit the blend of work-magic with paige where she wants a life and career outside of magic however she still loves the craft and embraces is with an open heart and mind. season six also gives us chris who was a very fun male lead imo we really didn’t have many like him he’s bitchy. he whines and bitches a lot he’s got an agenda he’s a bit secretive but at the end of the day he just wants a family i like him. i like the character growth we see out of piper i like seeing her try to move on from leo i love seeing her get back together with leo i like her dynamic with chris and her fears about motherhood. i also liked richard but that one takes a lot of justification. L’s are witchstock hyde school reunion used karma off the top of my head also the paige/richard/addiction plotline was so tone deaf. also the girls were mean to darryl : ( he deserved so much better. dubs were chris as a character, tbh the episode little monsters, phoebe with empathy specifically saying i love you too to jason i could write a dissertation on that line alone also the courtship of wyatt’s father and i thought the reveals of evil wyatt and chris being piper and leo’s son were both fun and interesting plot twists.

coming in third is actually season 2 a season i really do love it’s just. it lacks structure. imo there is a lot to love about season 2 morality bites and pardon my past are both delightful time travel episodes we get jack sheridan and bane jessup two of my personal favorite prue love interests we get p3 h2o and a great prue plotline regarding the death of patty we get the super cute cupid episode it’s a great. collection of episodes. it’s not a great season. there’s just imo not a strong enough thread connecting the stories together it’s mainly held together by having the same characters in it over and over again i really liked dan personally but like. i knew we were wasting time there. he was just an obstacle. a super cute loving and caring obstacle who’s great with kids but lbr piper and leo were always endgame. wasting our time on dan was stupid. i do love the sister dynamics in season two “gotta hand it to those pesky little demons they sure have brought us closer together” but again. this season could have benefitted from a rex and hannah type or even like a cole or zankou. this season is less of a season and more of just like a handful of episodes, and while there are some fat dubs, there are also some definite swings & misses. shout out to the time travel episodes the prue centric episodes phoebe’s character growth and maturity throughout this season (e.g. her going back to college) and i also think the fashion got a lot more fun this season.

second place i’m saying season one season one was a really strong start and gave us these really compelling characters with interesting relationships between one another But. a lot of it just kinda falls flat. and credit where credit is due it was a brand new show getting its feet under it but the fourth sister feats of clay which prue is it anyway they just simply aren’t dubs imo. also i don’t like that 70′s episode bc again i am an asshole concerned about The Lore i can’t believe one bitch ass warlock caused the Charmed Ones to grow up without powers. it just really bugs me. all in all the plots as a whole like aren’t great imo they’re nothing to write home about (save for from fear to eternity) it’s really the characters that make this season so goddamn good.

first place congratulations to the one the only season three. this is just because it kinda hits all my requirements in that it has some banger one offs (e.g. all halliwell’s eve, the good, the bad, and the cursed) it has an overarching plot at the exact same time as the source becomes more prominent and obvi cole is also there with murderous intent i like the character growth we see especially from prue i like piper and leo finally get married overall i really like the aesthetic of this season that blends a darker urban fantasy tone with still some charmed fashion and whimsy. strikes against tbh phoebe and cole’s relationship i am insanely picky with my enemies to lovers and the do not come remotely close to cutting the mustard in fact they are almost immediately disqualified however from afar i can see and respect The Drama. shout out to recasting victor prue with pistols death as a character and shannen directing episodes

#and of course this is a matter of opinion i'm not expecting everyone to agree w me Howver #i think you'd also be hard pressed to talk me out of my opinion #like the closer you get to the top there's more wiggle room like what's the best season i think changes with the wind #but the shit tier stays shit tier in my mind it's a matter of personal preference and i personally prefer my season to be good #charmed #💌

rating the artilleryman actors from jeff wayne’s musical version of the war of the worlds*

*from the perspective of someone who’s never seen the show live but, in my defence, has sought out just about every illegally filmed snippet on youtube and I've seen both official recordings many times. some of these are based on a single recording tho so take my words w/ a grain of salt. im also not going to get everyone because for a number of the actors there’s not enough evidence to go off

david essex

summary: the man the myth the legend. there are only a couple photos of him during recording sessions but he was clearly having the time of his life, and his hoarse voice and cockney accent bring an edge to the character that’s often absent (also means his own background is closest to that of the character). obviously they didn’t kick start the stage show until about 30 years after he recorded for the role but sometimes i daydream about an actual theatre production of twotw in the 70s bc holy shit, he was already doing evita when he recorded for twotw and had starred in godspell by this time and he wouldve been absolutely magnificent. 

he’s also like the only actor im aware of that properly belts the ‘it’s going to have to start’ line and it just. sounds so good. he’s also the only artilleryman actor that imo sounds good in act 1 and like someone who’s genuinely witnessed a traumatic event and is still reeling in shock. he brings this kind of manic earnest with him in brave new world and it enhances the song 100% bc he’s so completely convinced things will work out

iconic moment: the way he yells ‘just’ after the whispered section in the middle of brave new world. chef’s kiss

rating: 10/10 im biased as all hell

summary: the true mystery of this man is that he looks so old and so young at the same time (put it down to the incredibly fake weird sideburns and the receding hairline) and that he didn’t seem to do any more work in this vein post-2006. deserves credit for being the first stage show actor in the role, running around for 12 minutes straight pretending to use a massive pencil compass and digging at the stage, and for pulling things off pretty damn well. the almost surgical slit at the knee of his pants irritates me and im glad they didnt do it again

iconic moment: singing the entirety of brave new world with a pseudo american accent for no reason at all. im 99% sure he’s english

summary: the day that jason moved from the artilleryman role to the parson role was the finest day of his life as well as mine. he’s absolutely outstanding as nathaniel but tbh i think in the artilleryman role he’s just... bad (and doesnt have NEARLY enough fake blood everywhere). a lot of the lines sound like theyre cut short or like he can’t quite hit the note he’s aiming for, and there’s times when he just sounds completely off, or barks his lines for no reason. like alexis james he was part of the pre-new gen era so he has like two props and he has to pretend to use these for over ten minutes and i salute him for that. speaking of salutes i love how he randomly embellishes some of his lines with a salute

iconic moment: *high pitched australian accent* iT’S You. the MAn from mayBury HILL

summary: ricky wilson was the first artilleryman for the new gen era which was iconic enough in itself, but then he also gave us the black eye, goggles, waxed moustache, the glass of water trick, rolled up sleeves, and so much more. also the tragic victim of the bottle of whiskey line, but he salvages it by just swigging from the bottle right then and there. act 1 RW kinda has the vibe of a man who’s just unexpectedly watched his football team of preference lose badly rather than witnessed a massacre, but by act 2 he sounds like he just came up with a plan to save civilisation at 3am while blind drunk and he’s going to tell you about it whether you like it or not. also pioneered the trend of stripping his coat at the start of the song. he definitely sounds better in the visual recording than on the album as he barely sounds like himself on the latter (why is he like the only actor from the stage show that’s also on the album?? ill always wonder). even then though he seems very jittery and nervous and like he’s trying to overcompensate by being super energetic and the way he basically screams all his lines gets annoying after long enough

that said his swagger and confidence are completely unbeatable and while i wouldnt trust him as far as i can throw him, he deserves a spot in the artilleryman hall of fame, although im still unsure to this day whether he’s using the spade correctly

iconic moment: *hip thrust* WALLOP

rating: 9/10

summary: again this is based on like a single recording but he can SING and i wish he showed off more than he does. he also sounds properly panicky/shaky in the first act which i always appreciate since he’s been Through It and a lot of performances don’t get that across. he’s giving it his all/aiming to give the best performance he can and it shows! he also has a ton of bruises/so much fake blood everywhere and his shirt’s in tatters and it’s great. the high notes sound fantastic also

iconic moment: stripping off the coat about ten minutes before any other artilleryman actor im aware of, and yeeting it off the stage

summary: i would say that bc he’s australian i have no choice but to stan but ive already been rly mean to jason donovan so that doesnt stand up anymore. anyway i basically regard adam garcia as the spiritual successor to david essex - similar sound, similar vibes, similar musical theatre background, similar genuine earnest with that edge of manic desperation and oncoming insanity. his facial expressions and gestures and pure enthusiasm throughout BNW are my favourite thing, and he maintains more of a long-sleeved pirate vibe as opposed to the ricky wilson rolled up sleeve vibe. unlike ricky wilson i also think he might’ve actually used a spade before

he also does so so much running around, and has more props than ever - the chair, the blackboard, the goggles, the gun, the spade, but at least he’s kept busy for the long instrumental sections, although i think it’s awful he gets cut off at the end of his song by life begins again while he just like, keeps digging? his singing is rly consistent and really quality, although i think he unfortunately sounds pretty bad in act 1. the whole losing his mind thing in act 2 salvages it tho

Does it annoy you when people make their default of them kissing someone? I don’t mind kissing photos or icons. But hmm, I can imagine being a little grossed out if it’s an image of them kissing with tongue or if it’s generally a little on the sloppy side.

Are there any names you can think of that just go well together? Well there’s...a lot of names in existence lmao, so there’s a lot of combinations out there that I like for sure. I just don’t rank them and I don’t have a name combination of choice just yet.

Do you enjoy museums? I’m obsessed with museums. In every single one of our family trips, my dad has always made sure to book at least one museum visit for me so I can return back home happy, hahaha. I also visit and revisit museums in my own time, and I’m open to going to any kind of museum whether it’s natural history, art, science, ancestral homes, etc.

Have you ever met anyone famous? One of my coworkers plays the drums for a local band that’s got a bit of a following, so it was definitely a shock when I first saw his name in our work group chat. How did you break the first phone you broke? So my mom hooked my first phone to a lanyard that I was made to wear as it was the surest way I wouldn’t be able to lose it (I was 7, which really should not be an age for kids to receive their first phones lol). One day I was being a little more rambunctious than usual, and while moving around the hook to the lanyard suddenly came off, and the phone crashed to the ground. It messed up the screen a bit and the hook also got a little fucked from there; eventually the phone came off during my 1st grade field trip and I never realized, and I lost the phone.

Did you have a tree house when you were a kid? If so, did you ever fall from it? We did not have a treehouse. My grandpa surely would’ve been the type to make one for his grandkids as he’s great at building stuff and working with wood, but it just wasn’t plausible considering most trees here are crawling with fire ants and other weird and potentially dangerous insects.

Have you ever been on vacation to a snow field? I don’t know what that is but I’ll go ahead and say no as I’ve never seen snow anyway.

The Masked Singer Season 4 Episode 2: Group B kicking it off... with a twist!! Guesses and Commentary

Hello my fellow Masked Singer guys and gals! It's that time of the week again (albeit I am a bit late, but let's go with it), time for Ana's Masked Singer recap woohoo! *insert fanfare here* This episode was such an insane one not gonna lie, Group B came in with a bang like wow... let's just get into it because it's a crazy episode in it of itself.

Firstly, I gotta point out the contestants of Group B, which this time were 6 unlike A and C which only have 5 contestants total.. and those 6 are (order from left to right, top row first then bottom row in the image below) Crocedile, Gremlin (the purple fluffy guy), Seahorse, Whatchamacallit (the blue and red hair cousin It thing), Baby Alien, and Serpent.

Alrighty so this elimination is gonna be a bit different than usual because it isn't the norm of what usually happens with these sorts of things (I'll tell you what I mean in a sec)...

So the first contestant unmasked for Group B actually wasn't eliminated (I know what you are thinking... "whaaatttt Anaaaaa that makes no sense")... but actually he unmasked himself (whatttt?! yeah you read that right, he legit was hot and suffocating and he seemed super over it and just took it off by himself... yup, that happened like what mind blown!

Anyways the mask who did this was...

THE GREMLIN

Performance: He sang Stand by Me by Ben E. King and honestly it was meh, it was really breathy as if he forgot some of the words, I don’t know if he was overcome with emotion (because he dedicated it to his friend who passed away) or what, I felt kind of bad but I low key feel like he was going to go home regardless, but on the bright side I love the costume and it was a great song choice for his range. He has a very raspy voice... like almost like a smoker’s voice and I can kind of tell that he’s an older man, but I couldn’t recognize the singer. 

So the Gremlin ended up being revealed to be....

MICKEY ROURKE 

Ugh this upsets me because I don’t know who he is so I really couldn’t guess him correctly. I searched it up and apparently he’s an actor and director and was in Iron Man 2, which I’ve never seen like ever. But yeah, he did good, he looked kinda drunk not gonna lie and I guess he was suffocated and got over it. 

Alright now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to my favorite part, the remaining 5 contestants: 

1. THE SEAHORSE

Performance: I really love Seahorse, she’s one of my favorites of the night and so far in the season in general. Her performance of Rihanna’s Only Girl in the World was amazing and I definitely knew who that voice is...

My guess and I am so sure about this guys is singer, songwriter, American Idol alum... 

TORI KELLY 

Dude like that voice is so recognizable... but also because of the clues: 

Emotion Ocean= she’s super emotional when it comes to songwriting, like she legit said in an interview that she cries a lot

Tea Party= she hosted tea parties with her fans in 2019 (well before all this ofc) 

Rainbow Frog= sang Rainbow Connection with Kermit the Frog

Jenny: Halsey (say what now? This doesn’t sound like her... is Jenny ok? This episode she’s been messing up with guesses more than Ken... you’ll see what I mean) 

Nicole: Hailee Steinfeld (meh, that’s ok I guess, but not quite) 

Robin: Bebe Rexha (he was onto something when he said country but then he said this, but this is the closest guess of the 3)  

2. THE SERPENT 

Performance: This one is my other favorite of this group. His performance of “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” by The Proclaimers was absolutely stunning, I got chills! If it is who I think it is, I love him (partially because I think I know who it can be) 

I think the Serpent can be actor of the iconic Broadway sensation Hamilton aka Aaron Burr, Sir:

Dude like I feel pretty good about this guess because of the voice and the clues:

Map of the Caribbean= reference to the beginning of Hamilton where Alexander Hamilton is from

Jr. References= he’s a jr.

Performance: I also really liked Crocodile and his performance of It’s My Life by Bon Jovi was great! I feel like I know who this is, and I am pretty familiar (well, more or less) with 90s and early 2000s boybands and this one is someone in that realm I am so sure of it... 

Ok so being more specific, I think it’s boybander from The Backstreet Boys: 

NICK CARTER 

The voice and the clues were a dead giveaway:

The Vegas vibes in the clue package= he performed in Vegas with Backstreet Boys 

Water clues (the water slide and happiest in water)= he was born in Orlando, FL home of the theme parks and FL is also some of the Gators so it would makes sense with the costume

Grew up in Hollywood= moved there when really young

Ken: John Hamm (and he’s back, that was a terrible guess)

Nicole: Nick Lachey (so close, but not quite)

Robin: Donnie Wahlberg (um, Jenny agreed, how does she not know that this ain’t your husband?!) 

4. THE WHATCHAMACALLIT

Performance:  His performance of “I Wish” by Skee-Lo was good, not my favorite, but I didn’t hate it. I am kind of feeling that it’s an athlete due to the height and also how he speaks.

He isn’t my favorite by any means and I am also a bit stumped by him especially because of that fake Russian accent, but I am in between 2 people at the moment....

Is Boba's name only mentioned in this one deleted scene? I feel like it is, at least in this movie

I'm giggling at the description of this one: Luke and Leia share a rare, quasi-romantic moment together in Hoth - well before their kinship is established in Return of the Jedi. Luckily, R2-D2 makes a well-timed interruption.

R2 be like "Oh man no I gotta stop this they're siblings!" cos he knows. (I'm pretty sure he knows at least? Honestly at this point I just assume R2 knows as much as I do)

I like this scene apart from the random Luke/Leia almost kiss, Leia being all riled up and feeling like she can't count on anyone cos both Luke and Han are leaving adds a fun aspect to her character

Ehehehe the best deleted scene, the wampa yoinking the snowtrooper after 3PO removed the sign to the door and then Vader walking up and just looking so disappointed. I'm disappointed we don't have sound for that.

IMO, realistically Dick would have been the first one to reach out to Jason upon hearing he was back, for the exact same reasons he took a chance on Damian as Robin (which Bruce very likely wouldn’t have), and he took a chance on trusting Raven and forming the new Teen Titans to stop Trigon after the Justice League had already turned her away because demon energies mumble mumble, and look I’m just saying - 

Dick Grayson is the guy who takes chances on people. Who gives them the benefit of the doubt. Who risks big for even the possibility of having his faith in people justified.

The only reason he didn’t do that with Jason, and help ease the way towards Jason reconciling with the family...

IS BECAUSE DC SPENT YEARS ACTIVELY NOT WANTING JASON RECONCILED WITH THE FAMILY.

Keeping Jason at odds with the rest of the Batfamily was absolutely a CHOICE DC made, deliberately and consciously. So like....instead of looking to shitty interactions that make EVERYONE involved look out of character, to use as inspiration for Dick and Jason’s interactions in fics that otherwise are more than happy to disregard canon anyway.....

I’m just saying, instead of writing Dick as backing up Bruce’s caution and disapproval towards Jason, what if instead you look to the very very very well established pattern of Dick trusting and being close with people his father definitely doesn’t approve of and is wary of, like....idk, pretty much all the Titans at one point or another, plus a bunch of the Outsiders, plus the considerable number of criminals and antiheroes he’s managed to make nice with over the years, and like...tbh, off the top of my head, the only person I can think of who both Bruce and Dick don’t like that much is Ollie? LMAO. That’s it. And in Dick’s case, that probably has a lot to do with the fact that Ollie’s never been a huge fan of his either.

*Shrugs* Anywho, have Dick and Jason at odds after the latter’s return if you wanna write them that way, I mean, whatever, but this guy who is all stiff and uncomfortable and judgmental around Jason with no other reasoning given that like, Bruce doesn’t trust him or approve and thus neither does Dick, like....what???

(And yeah, I know he was written that way in Brothers in Blood, but again - see the bit where DC didn’t WANT Jason getting along with the family, and also....Jason showed up in town in Dick’s costume and started getting Dick a reputation of murdering people, and Dick happens to care quite a bit about how he’s seen as a vigilante, given that he’s always put a ton of effort into being approachable and such, and then Jason started poking directly at Dick’s still fairly recent and HUGE scab aka his feeling responsible for Blockbuster’s death....like, there are plenty of reasons why in that particular story arc, Dick wasn’t falling over himself to be like welcome home little brother who had a million and one opportunities to approach me and THIS is the way you chose to do it. And like...none of them have anything to do with Bruce).

But like, bottom line....behind the scenes decisions always play a huge role in these things....and make no mistake, originally DC brought Jason back to be a Batfamily antagonist. That was their Big Idea there. He wasn’t intended to occupy the angry Robin niche, DC wanted someone to fill the ‘fallen from grace’ Robin niche....until they eventually realized no most people wanted Jason as a good guy or at least antihero and not pitted against his family and they took advantage of the reboot to do that.

Like there’s a reason that Brothers in Blood and Outsiders were pretty much the ONLY time Jason and Dick interacted after his return up until Battle for the Cowl, and that’s because the majority of Nightwing writers didn’t WANT to use Jason when it meant having to have him and Dick dramatically at odds with no chance of anything other than that.

Like....the very specific reason that people writing Dick just mindlessly backing up Bruce’s stance towards Jason in fics with no dissent, like the reason this drives me up a wall isn’t even actually because of my uh...well documented opinion that they were closer before Jason’s death than is usually assumed. No, like even without that, that characterization for Dick completely fails to take into account that for a good twenty years, Dick was DELIBERATELY characterized as the guy who took chances on the very people Bruce wouldn’t.

That Bruce himself was characterized as saying the thing that he was most proud of Nightwing for and why he felt he’d become a better version of what he’d always wanted Batman to be, is because Dick had never lost his ability to trust in people even after being let down....because his trust was never based in naïveté but was rather a conscious CHOICE not to let the reasons he’d been given not to trust people actually take away his determination to have his faith in them proven RIGHT.

While DC was leaning into all the stories that highlighted Batman as paranoid and untrusting like The Tower of Babel with his contingencies against all the Justice League and Brother Eye and stuff, for a good fifteen years before Jason’s return....throughout all that time they were intentionally writing Dick as being the polar opposite of Bruce in that SPECIFIC regard. Like, for decades Dick was the guy DC wrote all the other characters turning to when they wanted to COMPLAIN about Bruce’s trust issues or refusal to give someone or something a shot. It legitimately just does not make much sense to simply position him as Bruce’s unquestioning number two in all matters Jason when in most every other matter Dick is the first one to be written challenging Bruce’s decisions.

So many of you guys have spent years writing Dick as the real problem child, unreasonably stubborn and likely to pick a fight with Bruce at the drop of a hat (PARTICULARLY people who write about Bruce and Jason in his years as Robin)....how come THAT characterization only seems to disappear the second Bruce is like “welp, Jason is bad now forever, oh well” huh? And only then for once Dick is like sounds about right to me boss! Like....hmm. Nothing about that seems convenient to anyone?

Like if you’re going to keep one thing in mind about Dick’s character, how about instead of his temper or flightiness or cheery jokes or chipperness or unreasonable stubbornness like....what if instead people focused on a core characteristic like how even as far back as The Judas Contract, one of the Titans’ most iconic and definitive stories....

the Titans only beat Deathstroke after he infiltrated them using Terra as his mole and literally all of them were captured except for Dick....because Dick didn’t have to rescue the others all on his own.

He did it with Joey’s help.

Because pretty much right after the reveal that Terra was a traitor who was working for Slade for as long as they’d known her....Dick chose to take a chance on trusting a complete stranger, with the story then validating his decision to believe the best of this new person instead of compounding the idea they never should have trusted Terra by having Joey turn on them too.

And the fact that the very first new person Dick chose to trust after Terra’s betrayal was Slade’s very own son....that wasn’t a coincidence. That wasn’t dramatic irony.

That was the POINT.

And this core characteristic of Dick’s has been held up time after time after time....so why can’t something like THAT be treated as defining and indicative of him as all these other fanon flaws and attributes that are usually based on a mere handful of panels or issues and then blown wildly out of proportion? How come he can spend so much time being characterized in fics as hot tempered and likely to go off about anything when most of the examples to back that up have to deliberately be pulled from stories of brainwashing or where he’s for other reasons still acting OUT of character by the canon example’s own admission...while characteristics that entire iconic story arcs have HINGED upon go not only unacknowledged....but completely flipped?

You tell me.

10. A Cinderella Story: Once Upon a Song (2011)- Full disclosure, I haven’t seen this one all the way through buuuuuuuut it is a ripoff of a ripoff so here we are 

9. R&H’s Cinderella 1965- Like. It’s fine, but it just makes me want to watch a better version of this movie. (this isn’t a gif of it but the Broadway version makes me think of this version. No, I do not particularly like the Broadway version of R&H’s Cinderella and this is my way of shoehorning that in)

8. Disney’s Cinderella (1950)- There are good things about this movie! But you have to admit, it feels a little long. Like, I’m pretty sure they spend as much time on the mice as they do on Cinderella. Look I like this version but I have to be in Exact Right Mood for it

7. Another Cinderella Story (2008)- As far as mid-2000s teen rom-coms go, this coulda been worse. It’s fun and I enjoy the dance sequences. But it still just makes me want to watch a better movie 

6. Roger’s and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (1957)

I mean. The only reason this one is as high as it is is because of Julie Andrews. Other than that. It’s Pretty Forgetful. (They didn’t have a gif for it so enjoy)

5. Disney’s Cinderella (2015)- Ok in my humble opinion THIS IS HOW YOU ADAPT YOUR SHIT DISNEY. This movie isn’t flawless by a long shot! But it’s fun, it fits a certain mood. They took what was good about their original version and worked with that. They fixed some of the issues with it without obsessing over it. THE DRESS! Richard Madden as the prince!! ITS CUTE. It is their best live-action remake to date (I am really hoping Little Mermaid and Mulan will be even better!) 

4. A Cinderella Story (2004)- I don’t have to convince y’all how good this movie is. Hillary Duff as Sam? Flawless. Regina King as the (2nd) best fairy godmother? P e r f e c t i o n. Sam and Carter’s friendship? We support. A typically kinda blind but overall GOOD prince, er quarterback? hell yeah. THAT WHOLE SCENE AT THE DINER, y’all know which one. God this version is so good

3. Ella Enchanted (2004) - Yes I KNOW it’s nothing like the book. That doesn’t take away from the fact that this is a GREAT adaption of Cinderella. A badass Ella who is Anne Freaking Hathaway! Adventure with some fun and magical friends! A cute Prince who Ella has an actual relationship with! A fun villain whose kind of charming, but so much so that we don’t root for them! THE HALL OF MIRRORS SCENE. Also, it has two of the best musical numbers in cinematic history (I do actually consider the “Somebody to Love” scene as the third-best scene in cinematic history)

2. Ever After (1998)- Historical Cinderella with a strong female lead who is Drew Barrymore? uM YES. I love almost everything about this movie. Danielle? The. Best. Prince Henry? A lovable dumbass. Leo Da Vinci as the fairy godmother? What an iconic move. Tbh the relationship Danielle and Rodmilla have is clearly what they were going for in 2015 version but they just didn’t know how to make it work. Also, Jacquline the good stepsister? We love. Her picking up Henry to save him?? UM YES. The ball and Danielle’s dress? BEYOND AMAZING. DANIELLE SAVING HERSELF AND PRINCE PRINCE AWKWARDLY BEING LIKE “oh...i came here to rescue you”. The revenge scene after Danielle and Henry are married? amazing.

1. Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (1997)- Look I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This is the best Cinderella. This is the perfect adaption of this fairytale. Brandy’s Ella is just lovely. She’s strong, but she’s scared and her fairy godmother says “You have to save yourself, I can’t do that for you”. Paolo Montalban’s Prince Christopher? He’s so cute! And, what I love about this version is that they meet before the ball and they have a c on n e c t i o n but they move on and then he’s like “wait I’ve seen you before” and the second he sees her when he finds her again there’s no dumb “could it really you?” Nah man he KNOWS his girl and they put the slipper on because it's cute. Also the supporting cast? Flawless. Bernadette Peters Stepmother? Just wow. The stepsisters? Funny but not like too miserable, you don’t Hate them, but you know they deserve to be locked out of that wedding. Whoopi Goldberg and Victor Garber as the King and Queen? Wow, this is an iconic couple and we know which one of them really rules this kingdom. Even Jason Alexander as Lionel is p good. Whitney Huston as the Fairy Godmother is the only thing that matters. She also handpicked Brandy to be Cinderella and Brandy said the only if Whitney played the Fairy Godmother. That story just fills me with so much joy. And the cherry on top is that they took this version and filled it in with other Rodgers and/or Hammerstein songs. Honestly, the reason I don’t like the Broadway version is that they could’ve adapted this version to the stage and they didn’t and it just pales in comparison man. This is The. Best. Cinderella.

I just need my feverish moleskin-mauling to be seen by the world, hah. Designing a new ttrpg character that is based on horror/slasher tropes, and tbh it’s the most difficulty I’ve had nailing down a design in recent memory. Slashers are deceptively simple in design, but I think require a lot of nuance and hard work on the designer’s (and actor’s!) part to be genuinely intimidating. A good slasher is a cumulation of the right shapes (’The Shape’ is aptly named), and imo, shapes>detail when you are just seeing something for an instant while it’s lurking in the shadows, or just before it strikes. They’re just a little off kilter, massive things always lurching forward just a smidge, always ready for pursuit. I think that unique posture is important. Especially in a more cartoonish medium, stuff like ‘what shape do their sleeves make’ is important, and contributes to how the character’s weight is distributed, where our eye is guided to first, etc. 

In a mask, how much of the face do you show? I think visible eyes are good, it adds a frightening little dash of humanity, but then, is the mouth too much? Showing the mouth gives you the expectation that they will talk, and I think lends itself to a certain kind of character, but might not work for everyone. How far from human does the mask go. Where is the sweet spot on that gradient. The anonymity/decay of the masks of characters like Michael Meyers and Jason Voorhees are spectacular in their menace through simplicity. They’re bold impactful imagery. They’re iconic. How do you capture that sort of lightning in a bottle while remaining true to the character’s themes? These are all rhetorical questions that I’m asking myself through the process. 

Voirrey, the character, has made a career of making latex prosthesis and masks for horror films/working with animatronics, and is awakening to dark powers after failing at pursuing said profession. Since said powers have to do with the ability to communicate with the dead, one would conclude that perhaps her main mask should be themed as such (skeletal/zombie/etc) but, I dunno. Tar Man’s the only zombie that I have ever thought as being sufficiently offputting (hence basing the first draft mask on that). I have also flirted with a ‘skinned anamatronic’ mask (seen above, Jake drew that one) but am deeply concerned with its legibility as such. I think there are too many moving parts to make it look readable and iconic. As of now, I’m tooling around with a lot of different things, and haven’t settled on any of them, but that’s alright. There’s not a big rush and the challenge is titillating. Another direction I’d like to pursue is just a very decayed, vintage Topstone-type mask. 

But, after a few passes, I did manage to settle on her human face: 

The other contributing factor to this challenge is that her face had to have enough range to pull off ‘gonna pull your eye out’ and also ‘normal person’ - she is, technically, with the good guys, and is not in full murder getup all the time. Once everything’s all sorted out, I’ll probably put everything in a much more elegant compilation, but I think this kind of stuff is interesting in it’s rough form. Here’s to my new 6″8 daughter.

Riverdale 3.18 Thoughts *Spoilers*

First of all, I have not seen Riverdale in like a million years because it has just gotten so crazy and stupid and I’m sick of Bughead and Hiram for some reason going after his daughter for one stupid thing and it’s just repetitive and boring. Like, I have watched SO many greater shows since I just stopped caring to watch, but I heard that Bughead will break up and Jeronica might become actual friends, and that Hiram is arrested, and shit like that, plus the first episode of the fourth season is a tribute to Luke so I feel obligated to catch up before then to watch it. Either way I hate not finishing a season, especially after watching it for two whole seasons now, so… enjoy my technically not-spoilers since it’s been out for awhile thoughts on this episode of Riverdale! P.S. Bare with me if I have forgotten anything since it’s been awhile.

- AWW NO I REMEMBER THIS THOUGH, POOR BABY TEETH :( He was such an adorable little shit he didn’t deserve this.

Why I like them

There’s a lot I could say here. I’ve been a huge fan of Batman ever since I was about 10, though I liked him even before then. Aside from being a really cool character - awesome gadgets, peak physical condution, genius-level intelligence, world’s greatest detective, fluent in over 40 languages, well-versed in over 100 forms of martial arts, various degrees in law, chemistry, engineering, etc. - he’s a good person. He uses his circumstances to help other people because it’s the right thing to do. He doesn’t have any godly powers or superhuman abilities other than not giving up.

Why I don’t

Stop ignoring Jason, dickwad.

Favorite episode (scene if movie)

I really like his final confrontation with Joker in The Dark Knight. There are a lot of fantastic scenes with him, really. The ending of Arkham Knight was pretty great (so was that sequence in the Asylum with Joker, holy crap...).

Favorite season/movie

I know it’s kind of overhyped, but The Dark Knight really is amazing.

Favorite line

Other than the iconic “I’m Batman,” I really love “It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.” That line is a key part of his character: Bruce defines himself by his actions, specifically his efforts to help people in any way he can.

Favorite outfit

There are a lot of good ones. I think my favorite is his Arkham Knight outfit, but again, he has so many fantastic looks that it’s hard to say.

It’s not really a “brotp” in my eyes, but his relationship with Alfred gives me life.

Headcanon

I really love “Bruce Wayne is Gotham’s Keanu Reeves,” “Do the butts match?” and “People ship Bruce Wayne and Batman.” I don’t have too many personal headcanons for him other than mundane stuff like his age when he started crimefighting.

Unpopular opinion

I hate his relationship with Talia in every depiction I’ve seen. Every single one. I don’t get it at all.
