If you replaced the Fellowship with the Cullens and told them of their task, is there any chance of them succeeding at tossing the One Ring into the fires of Mt doom?

No.

None of them would be able to resist the power of the Ring, they don't have the temperament.

Alice

Alice is a weird caveat. Alice would see herself succumbing in too many futures or see someone else succumbing in her place. The temptation for Alice is it would boost her power, she would likely be able to see many more futures at once (in canon she's very limited) and she'd be able to see even those who block her like the wolves and Renesmee. Alice would never be blind and helpless ever again.

(That this would make her the Eye of Sauron is a minor detail, friends.)

The temptation would be very very strong for her and tampered only by the fact that every time Alice sees herself deciding to use the Ring it goes sideways. If she decides to even carry it too long, it tells her there are futures she just can't see (which is entirely possible, and hm, maybe one little try won't hurt.)

Bella

Despite mental bullshit psychic powers probably making Bella somewhat immune to the Ring, Bella still gives into temptation. The Ring could do such good in the world! Bella doesn't want to go to a volcano somewhere, where there's an evil ghost eye, risk her entire family and future, to destroy this thing. It's fine, it's just a stupid Ring anyway.

That, and, if Bella used it, she probably wouldn't become evil because of her shield, right? Then she could be even more powerful and they could take care of that Volturi problem before they even thought about coming back. Bella would be so powerful, in fact, no one could ever threaten her or her loved ones again.

And she'd be beautiful too.

She would, in fact, be more beautiful and radiant than the dawn. A queen, you might say, not dark but--

Bella doesn't hesitate long to put that sucker on.

Carlisle

Carlisle would be in Gandalf's line of thought, his temptation would be he'd try to take the Ring and do good, tempted into thinking that he'd be the exception because he normally has such strong willpower and would have good intentions. This, of course, wouldn't work because the Ring has a will of its own and cannot truly be used for anything other than its own purposes. Carlisle can't carry the Ring or even think about it.

Edward

The Ring as a field day is what happens.

It promises Edward that he can be Good, it can free him of the temptation of blood, allow him to transcend his demonic nature, as well as making him more powerful than Aro or any vampire who has ever lived. Bella's thoughts will never elude him again. He could, in fact, become powerful enough to rid the world of vampirism and demons altogether. His family could be human again, his daughter could be human for the first time in his life. He will become far more than he is now.

Emmett

Emmett's closer to resisting than most of the others. He has no grand ambitions, is content with himself and his place in the world, he has no particularly dark fears. He's not a full-on Hobbit, but of the Cullen's, he's the least of a psychological mess that the Ring loves to deal with.

So he'd be much better at resisting the Ring than the others, even Alice who's oscillating between hiding under a tree and trying to get it for herself.

However, he'd be too easily dismissive of it, thinking it's kind of nifty and sure, why not put it on, sounds like fun. Added to that that the rest of the Cullens are trying to persuade him to give it to them, there's no harm Emmett, and Emmett won't realize he has to defend himself from the rest of them.

Esme

Esme, again, is better than the others. At least at first. She's content with her life and her place in it, in a family she loves, she has no great angst with who and what she is, and while she has fears what she wants is for her family to be happy.

And that's the trouble, see, if Esme takes the ring and is the one to wear it, then all this fighting will stop. They won't have to endanger themselves going to a volcano with an evil ghost, the ring will be off the table so no one will fight anymore over it, and maybe Esme can do things like make her garden grow a little better.

Wanting so much to help the others, Esme gives into temptation. (Or, like Emmett, is persuaded by one of the others to part with the Ring).

Jasper

The thing about Jasper is he knows he'd be toast. Something offering him ultimate power, great times, Jasper had been offered the One Ring before in a metaphorical sense and he had decades of wild times because of it stopped only because someone else came back for him and then he found he couldn't eat people like he wanted.

Jasper cannot trust himself with these kinds of decisions.

I imagine he tries to get the Cullens to pass the Ring off to someone else, only to realize no one is trustworthy and the Cullens already can't seem to let it go. He then tries to persuade Alice to leave with him, only for her to tell him that if they leave then the Cullens will fall and terrible things will happen. Jasper finds himself staying, fighting against temptation and...

If it's not him it's going to be one of the others.

Renesmee

Renesmee might be one of the most shielded from the Ring's influence if only because her life is so fucking weird and she has no context to have great desires or what she could even do with the Ring. Her family's great, what are you talking about Ring? She could use the Ring to wipe out the Volturi? Sounds violent.

However, as her family falls apart at the seams over the Ring, Renesmee finds herself on the Esme path of temptation "if I have it, none of the others will have it, and then all this silly fighting will be done with and everything will be fine". And Renesmee could maybe help her family and others.

Rosalie wants to have a baby? Okay, Renesmee will be able to do that with the Ring. Renesmee can even undo Jacob's imprint, everybody's imprint, let them love whoever they want with no questions asked.

Maybe taking the Ring isn't such a bad idea.

Rosalie

The Ring is Rosalie's key to making her life hers again. She could become human, it tells her, they all could. She could have a child with Emmett, she could be the most beautiful woman who ever lived, she could have everything she ever wanted if she just puts it on her finger.

Despite knowing it's a bad idea, Rosalie is so very very tempted.

good morning besties and thank u for the tag @cold-blooded-jelly-doughnut & @thisbuildinghasfeelings 💕💕 have some kidnapped fic <333 maybe I'll see what art wips I have I can share later 🤔

He's thankful Carlos had managed to put down the laptop bag, but that doesn't save the notebook he had picked up off of the floor from dropping with a loud slap on the surface of the desk. TK tries not to wince at the sound. Or at the wide-eyed look Carlos is giving him.

"What? Where? How did you lose your ring, TK?"

“I don’t know! I took it off when I cleaned Lou’s terrarium before my shift started.” Carlos goes to open his mouth and TK cuts him off, “If I would’ve worn it when cleaning it then you’d have grumbled and glared so you better not say I shouldn’t have taken it off.” TK jabs his left hand in Carlos’ direction as his husband steps closer. Carlos keeps his mouth shut, but still inches his way around the mess to step in front of TK.

Both eyes lock on the naked ring finger.

TK frowns, rubbing the finger with his thumb gently. “I went to put it on my necklace at work and noticed it was gone. It should be in the loft I just – I haven’t found it.” He looks up at Carlos, voice soft. “I’m sorry.”

Arms pulls him close, blurring the lines between when one of them starts and when the other ends, and he melts into the touch. “We’ll find it,” Carlos murmurs into his hair, giving his head a soft kiss, “If not, we can get a replacement. Things get lost, it happens.”

“You don’t lose things,” TK grumbles into Carlos’ chest, hands skirting to feel warm skin under the soft t-shirt he's wearing. “I’m sure you’ll never lose your ring.”

Carlos hums, the sound reverberating deep in his chest. “Actually, I lost a pocket knife the other day. I haven’t felt the need to tear apart the loft for it yet.” he pokes TK in the side, resulting in him only burrowing farther into his chest with a laugh, “But I’m sure it’s either here or at Mom’s. I’ll find it when I find it. Speaking of,” he pulls away from TK, ignoring his protests and grabbing hands.

“Did you make the guide for her? I don’t know why we can’t have your dad watch Lou while we’re gone next week – he did for our anniversary.”
