CONGRATU-HECKIN-LATIONS FRIEND 🎉🎉🎉
apologies this is late but CONGRATS. this is so well-deserved, you are an absolutely amazing person and im so happy i've gotten the chance to get to know you.
how about 💭 bc im nosy
🌱for either criminal minds or marvel. a fun fact about me is that i have a cat named bean in theory but in actuality i've started calling him by a different taco bell menu item every day and it's gotten more and more ridiculous. from bean burrito to today was toasted cheddar chalupa.
and
🎵 bc music. the song is love and war in your twenties by jordy searcy
CONGRATS AGAIN FRIEND
AHHH THANK YOU 🥹 you all are way too sweet to me
Also, I read this answer last night (I queue the answers to not spam you) and you brought tears to my eyes. I love all od you so darn much, I just wanna give you all a big hug and a smooch on the forehead 😭
I remember vividely how you answered to a post of mine where I asked questions about being a TA and I followed you after talking to you and you followed me and I was wowed, because you wrote a favorite story of mine. The fact that you even knew I exist had me over the moon 😅 in my eyes you were and still are a tumblr celebrity and the fact that we talk is still... wow🤯
I ship you (platonically) with Penelope. She goes batshit crazy over the idea of calling your cat a new name every day and puts the taco bell menu up somewhere and crosses the already used names off, so nobody gets the names confused. (For Marvel I would give you Yelena, bc she says she is a dog person, but she loves your cat as much as she loves you and gosh, she would be so confused by the names, bc Taco Bell is not a thing here in Europe)
I swear, I listen to this song on repeat right now, because I'm really struggling with what I want to do in my 20s and started comparing myself to 28 y/o and such, who seem to have their lives under control 😅

So
I was reading a short comic in a ninjago magazine and I suspect that it might be canon, or at least can be considered as such.
It takes place after crystalized, after Kai, Jay, Cole and Zane lost their elemental powers. They are trying to find a way to get their powers back, so they decide to read some of the scrolls Quanish wrote. And in one of them they read something about how chronosteel can provide elemental power.
And the reason why I think this comic can be canon is because we haven't got any explanation about how they got their powers back in Dragons Rising.
Tumblr media
"By risking my own life I learnt that elemental power can be materialized under specific circumstances."
"For example, if we use elemental energy while the lava is cooling down, it hardens into a type of chronosteel which contains elemental power."
"If at least three chronosteel from different places are put together, the elemental power is freed up again and can be used."
(Please excuse my crappy translation :') but I'm sure it's still more understandable than that silly goofy alien language ndhdmdh)
Anyway... the point is that it's possible to get elemental power from/by using chronosteel! Which means theoretically the Time Twins should be able get their powers back, right?
If Maya and Ray got the chronosteel from different places, yes. Otherwise... probably still yes.
Why?
Because Acronix and Krux should be able to somehow get their powers back from the blades by breaking them or something. But even if not, there's another thing that shouldn't be missed:
During the series it's made clear that elemental powers cannot be fully taken away, it'll always be part of the elemental master.
JUST FREAKIN' IMAGINE THESE IDIOTS GETTING THEIR POWERS BACK
*whispers* And what if I told you they might have already got it back? 👀
Tumblr media
In golden hour we can see that the iron doom is blown up and there's no sign of the time blades or the twins. And since these idiots are my comfort characters, I refuse to take into account that they might be dead- WU SURVIVED AS WELL AND HE WAS CLOSER TO THE EXPLOSION, OKAY?! /nm
But with all seriousness... They probably don't have their powers back, because it's not likely the writers would consider such thing. But... who knows...?
Whatever, it's still fun to think about haha
And it's also ✨fanfiction material✨

This is random, but do you find Jayfeather more interesting as a character to rewrite to be a better person, or a character who is theoretically interesting, but by not facing social consequences for his behavior is made annoying? Or do you not have a strong opinion on him at all?
Oooh interesting question! I’d say po3-oots he’s entertaining and serves his purpose, post-dotc Jayfeather I want to punt. He’s beyond nasty and snappish to everyone around him and the narrative plays it as an “oh Jayfeather!” moment. And look, snappish characters are fine but if no one fights back or just feels awful afterwards, it’s not banter or amusing, he’s just being a dick to everyone lol
I think Alderheart calls him out once and Jayfeather is like “im an EMPATH ACTUALLY”
I think for rewrites of him, I’d put him in the same shelf I put most characters: it depends on the story you’re trying to tell. If Jayfeather is meant to learn he can’t lash out at others and also begin to understand other’s problems, then yeah I’d want him to grow as a character and be kinder. But if it’s about how if you keep hurting and insulting others, you’re going to end up alone, then I think keeping him an asshole is perfectly fine. It’s just about the framing of the narrative for me. I think we’re supposed to see Jayfeather as a dick but the writers don’t realize that sometimes they go a little too far with him, and not having anyone who can snap back and keeping it one sided is just….pretty mean spirited and doesn’t make Jay entertaining.

You should theoretically use this ask as an excuse to ramble about the prince au👁️👁️
Theoretically
tigers101? THE fnc guy? in MY asks? what a day
(i totally didn't spend ten minutes screaming at my beta reader about this, nope, nuh uh (she says hello))
heads up im pretty sure im a shitty writer so dont expect too much from this fic lmaoo
as of right now the au doesnt have a name (weeps and cries) i have only ever named one of my wip fics well and it took like two months (weeps and cries AGAIN)
the whole au is set across their lifetime from 7-9 to 25-30 (possibly to older if i do an epilogue who knows) and its probably going to contain a lot of my attempts to be funny, as well as my attempts to be romantic and angsty, we'll see what happens!
i have only written one chapter so far, its about 2k words that i wrote in one night and then edited in two (its a blur, dont ask). its set when the albatrio are around 8 and their older siblings (Ava, Lizzie and Edyn) are around 14-15. maybe all of the chapters will be about 2k words? i might fizzle out and die though so... then again i have a 10k wip in my drive that was supposed to be multi chapter, i dont know if i will ever publish that lmaoo
i think most of the fic will be in chips pov since i feel like i write him the best, maybe some gill pov?? jay pov even?? who knows! not me thats for sure!
it wont only have fnc in it, it actually has more waning crescent in it as of the first chapter. i think it should have some clockwork rivals as well!!
i might not even finish it though, but ive had like a fuck ton of support for it over the last few days which is MENTAL, like i haven't even started it yet, where did you all come from???
also expect british spellings. i am sorry. i might have to use the word mum. or colour. im so sorry.
i dont really have much else to say about it other than the fact it's plot was though up during a three hour car journey and there is like an unconventional arranged marriage trope??? i don't even know if im using that word correctly but im to sleepy to care.
also the entire google doc is in multicoloured comic sans because i am incapable of taking myself seriously, goodnight :D!!

With Kara i was 50-50 on her departing, but seeing her nostalgic Instagram tribute made me reconsider … of course same could be said for Tracy with some posts she made! If Kara is out, at least the writers seemed to have laid the groundwork, unlike with JLS’ where an argument could be made they wrote Jay slightly off at the end of season 9… but not nearly enough to justify apparently having known about him exiting! Which leaves my next question, if Kara is gone in first or first couple episodes like with JLS, do you think this is the new groundwork for shows with departing actors? Especially in those shows? Like wanting to keep fans holding hope through the summer instead of writing characters out in finales?
I'm not ready to say it's the new groundwork for the industry as a whole. I think it would be more of a symptom of the strikes and unsteady times in broadcast TV. I'll separate Jesse's situation because his choice was made at the end of a season (9), whereas if Kara is leaving, it's clear that has been in the works for a while. That's more the norm.
So only in terms of an actors' situation like Kara's, it does seem weird to me that they would agree to come back for seemingly a short amount of time at the beginning of the season. Seems impractical to bind themselves to that when they will theoretically be looking for new work coming out of the strikes, but maybe it's not as big of a commitment as I originally assumed. I will say, if Kara is on her way out as I think she is, it did make me reconsider Tracy's situation. I once said I didn't believe she would come back to do only a few episodes (because if she wants to walk away, why would she?) but perhaps the studios really prioritized keeping some actors around for the new seasons, even if it is just a few episodes (as you said). They could incentivize that, I'm sure. I don't know. Part of me feels like I'm just talking out my ass but time will tell I guess.

OKAY season 3 thoughts time. not as long but also s3 was like half the size:
worst thing first: the jay/naya/cole love triangle is so ...... bland. its got nothing going for it. like at this point in the show jay/naya honestly speaking doesn't really have a lot going for it. like we dont ever see them hang out or do fun stuff together as a couple or have any cute bonding scenes outside of jay being like "wowww nya hot" or anything. we dont have any real reason to root for them, so why they decided to introduce a love triangle is beyond me. like i guess its because they haven't done anything interesting with jay/naya and a love triangle is the easiest and blandest option possible, but like. come on. cole & naya barely interact in the season outside of cole fighting with jay and i'm really confused as to why we're supposed to think cole has any romantic interest in naya because they... have even less going for them than jay/naya. like man if we're gonna have a love triangle anyways i'd like to have any reason to root for at least one side. please. im not asking for much. make your characters hang out a bit and have some common interests and enjoy spending time together before you start telling me they're in love.
Tumblr media
number two: im kind of obsessed with how garmadon's moral standards consistently disappear when it comes to lloyd. like pre this season he takes his vow of non violence or whatever but after lloyd gets captured it just. goes completely out the window. moral compass: son
number three: circling back to ninjago's inability to write a compelling romance i dont inherently mind zane/pixel (and its certainly got better writing than the.... uh . competition, if you want to even bother calling it that) but i do wish the writers would start out these romantic relationships with a much more solid platonic base. like its not the end of the world but i do wish it was more compelling.
number four: ZANE GIRLBOSSING IT THIS SEASON FINALE!!!!!!!!!!! this is one of the few things i did remember from like 8 years ago and for good reason its because hes literally perfect in every single way
number five: im nitpicking here but i think lloyd should get to swear. i think he's earned it
number six: this is more of a general observation than anything else but one thing i think is really . weird. about ninjago's writing is that it seems that every season they give the ninja new cool epic powers and then by the next one they get taken away. and like i understand the reasoning for this - its like when shounen writers keep giving their protagonist increasingly world-shattering powers and the power levels just keep getting more and more ridiculous, because if your original villain is "conquering the whole world and turning everybody evil" then theres only so much you can amp that up as the seasons go on without tacking on too many powers that nobody should be able to stand up to the hero anymore - but also its just. its just weird because i dont think ive ever seen anything like this.
okay i think thats abouttt it im, as always, very excited to get to some of the things i distantly recall (namely in particular the giant green eyeball thing and possibly a tournament / survival island arc that i think was a thing (???)) i know lots is in store and all i really want rn is character interactions. thats my dream i will honestly forgive so much as long as im having fun with the characters and dynamics in a series
whuff…. yeah. as much as thematically i love pixal and theoretically jaya could be extremely interesting. they do NONE of the work to make them so. zane <3 <3 baby’s first traumatic character death. he is. he really is. he deserves it all and so much more. whoever’s censoring lloyd must get paid well bc that kid grew up in eternal middle school. kid knows more swear words than the rest of these socially isolated dorks let him use them
i’ve never really thought about that but,,,, holy shit yeah???? i’m nowhere near an active dragon ball fan but it IS baffling that instead of the usual shonen style they-just-keep-getting-new-powers and we stop using them bc a) we forgot they existed (which does happen a bit here, but less commonly) or b) they’re just obsolete, in ninjago they EXPLICITLY get said new powers taken away. multiple times. is it a medium limitation?? is it just a quirk of the writers??? i’m gonna be thinking about this all night

And seriously, BBC Ghost writers, it wouldn’t take much to have an amusing plotline with Mike actually interacting with the ghosts and feeling included. Maybe what they’re doing with Jay on CBS Ghosts has spoiled me, but I would like at least something of the same thing for Mike, although since doesn’t have the same level of desire to get to know the ghosts and might just want to be able to interact with them for a sense of safety or peace of mind, I don’t know. Or could it be that if he were theoretically able to interact with them, he would be more willing to, perhaps?

21 answers for a fanfic 2021
1. fandoms you wrote for this year
Star Trek: Voyager
Star Trek: Lower Decks
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Star Trek Deep Space Nine
Star Trek: The Original Series
Star Trek: TNG movies
Bones
Whiskey Cavalier
2. favorite fic you wrote this year
The Secret (Star Trek: VOY/ST: TNG) where I developed a backstory for Nick Locarno and wrote how I imagined his life turned out after "The First Duty"
3. favorite fic you read this year
I loved Curator's Autobiography of Kirsten Clancy & her story Finding Home: A Gretchen Janeway and Owen Paris Love Story. I also loved The Ranger series by Treadstone17, however that's been unfinished for a year.
4. favorite opening line/scene you wrote this year
"Ray was in his office with his sister when it happened. Ray’s older sister, Sandy, had arrived from Maryland with her family for a weeklong visit. As they sat there discussing plans for their mother’s surprise birthday party it came—Hurricane Frankie."
-- First Impression (Whiskey Cavalier)
5. favorite ending line/scene you wrote this year
"Ray nodded. “Apparently, the Niagara Falls mission isn’t an isolated incident. Leaks have been happening, within the Bureau, for months. So, from now on, this team has a new mission—find the mole in the FBI.”
-- Bots in the Blood (Whiskey Cavalier). The story was just a rewrite of MacGyver's series finale but this ending sets up my hypothetical Season 4 story for Whiskey Cavalier The Year of the Mole
6. a trope you wrote this year
The estranged father regretting how he treated his son. I used that trope in my The Great Prince series (Whiskey Cavalier) However, I don't think there was a lot of interest in backstory for Ray Prince. But that got me thinking about Tom Paris and his father.
7. pairings you wrote this year
Will Chase/Frankie Trowbridge (Whiskey Cavalier) Ray Prince/Susan Sampson (Whiskey Cavalier) Carol Freeman & Beckett Mariner (Star Trek: Lower Decks) Owen Paris & Tom Paris (Star Trek: Voyager)
8. a fic regret from this year
I get more disappointed when some of my fics don't get many hits. However, I guess I do regret rewriting a Bones episode to make it fit Jai Datta in Whiskey Cavalier. Personally, I think it theoretically would've made a good episode but I guess it was too similar to an episode we already saw on the show.
9. a song that helped you write
I don't really use songs. However, Man on the Run (Whiskey Cavalier) was influenced by two songs: "Smooth Criminal" by Michael Jackson and "Billy, don't you lose my number." by Phil Collins.
10. total number of fics you posted
30
11. total number of words you posted
75.041
12. most popular fic written this year
That would be Dopplegangers. However, that fic is spread over multiple Star Trek fandoms. Single fandom fic would be Doubt (Bones)
13. least popular fic written this year
It's a close tie between The Ends Justify the Means (I guess no one wants to read Adm. Dougherty justification of his actions in Star Trek: Insurrection) and Becoming Dax (ST: DS9)
14. longest completed fic you posted this year
The Secret (ST: VOY) at 7,114
15. shortest completed fic you posted this year
The Apple and the Tree (ST: LD) at 520
16. favorite character to write about this year
Owen Paris
17. a fic you didn’t expect to write
Well, I always think "this'll be my last fic" but then I get another idea. However, I never expected to write Defeating Janeway as part of the Captain JaneDrunk Collection. I just don't really write corny stuff like that.
18. most memorable comment/review
I love getting comments. However, I really love it when writers whose work I admire comment on my work. It's such an honor. Oh, my first Star Trek: Voyager story The Hero of Starbase 74 --someone commented that I did Cole Paris justice, and I was glad of that. I always thought that character (who was created for the Stargazer novels twenty years ago) would've met a tragic fate.
19. trends you noticed in your writing this year
I don't know if I had any trends. However, three stories on AO3 inspired me to write something. I've been inspired by TV episodes, but this is the first time I've been inspired by something I read.
20. fics you wanted to write but didn’t
For almost two years, I'd been sporadically writing stories I would've liked to have seen on Whiskey Cavalier which was cancelled after one season. A part of me wanted to write two hypothetical season 5 eps (one Christmas and one w/Sadie Prince). However, interest in WC is waning and people tend to care more about light Will/Frankie stories so I just dropped them.
I also had a few more Doppleganger ideas but dropped them because I didn't know if I should add more chapters or treat them as a separate story.
21. something you want to write next year
I don't know about next year but I do have this small idea of Jellico visiting Ben Maxwell shortly after his arrest in The Wounded. I thought about doing an Orville story with Ed/Kelly but I don't know if I will.

Harry Wells x Reader Crisis of Infinite Wells (Part 1 of 5)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
**A/N: The picture/edit/gif does not belong to me. It belongs to @moonymartell.
Word Count: 2177
 Part 2    Part 3    Part 4    Part 5
***After finally getting caught up this week, I just have to say it’s been a roller-coaster of feels that I’ve been riding from the beginning all the way to episode 15. I refuse to believe we can’t get Harry back! Or that the multiverse is gone! And… I’ll just let my fic speak for what’s been on my mind for the past couple days. Hopefully, the writers are going to treat Harrison Wells kindly and stop breaking our hearts every so often. Tired of it and how they write off certain things with no legit explanation or just being plain forgetful. Sorry about the little rant, but this needed to be down. Comment down below if ya’ll think the content makes sense and if I should be a CW writer lol! Also please remember to reblog fics, that way more people able to see them and it gives us support too!! We are also content creators!
You fidgeted with your hands, playing with the ring on your finger. You were leaning back against the monitor close to the center of the cortex that had faced the main monitors. You nibbled on your bottom lip every so often as you waited for everyone to show up. Your brain mulled through what’s logically left, the crazy theory you had come up with in the middle of the night as your mind oddly recounted moments with team flash through the years. I really hope they don’t think I’m insane for this. You attempted to calm your nerves, and it worked for a few moments, but it only spiked when several sounds of footsteps made their way to your ears. Looking up, you gave everyone a smile as they shuffled into the Cortex.
“Hey,” you made a little wave gesture to everyone. You took in a little breath.
“Hey, we got your call. Did something happen?” Barry furrowed his eyebrows in question as he walked in. Standing with his hands in his pockets, the Scarlet Speedster stood beside Iris, who automatically took her place at the main monitor.
“Is it about Eva?” Iris asked right after Barry, running her hands on the desk. Cisco took the spot beside Iris, chewing on a Twizzler with a bag in hand, Kamila stole one from him when he wasn’t looking.  Ralph strolled in with Frost, he probably was giving her another life guidance lesson earlier, who only raised his eyebrows when Nash strode in after everyone.
You opened your mouth to answer, but got cut off by Ralph, “You invited Indiana too?”
“I’m as clueless as you are, for once, stretchy,” Nash piqued up, rolls his eyes at the Elongated Man. All eyes were back on you.
“I’m calling a Flash meeting and no, nothing happened. Nothing about Eva either. But…” You licked your lips and pocketed your hands into your jeans. “I, for some reason, came up with this crazy idea and I don’t know if it’s going to work.” You pushed off the monitor and walked around to stand behind it, as if hoping it can be a little barrier. “But maybe if I run it through you guys it’ll make some sense because something’s not right.”
“No kidding,” Cisco inserted with a little scoff, but you knew he didn’t mean to be rude, “ever since post-Crisis, nothing’s been right.” He made eye contact with Nash, who only gave him a look and crossed his arms. “No offence, Indy.”
“Stop calling me that!” Nash protested.
“Guys,” Barry caught Cisco and Nash’s attention, shaking his head at them. “Let her finish.” The speedster turned back to you, “Please.”
Taking in another breath, you crossed your arms and glanced down, collecting your thoughts before looking back up at them. Each and every one of them. They can tell you’re nervous and honestly, yes, the silence is killing you momentarily. But it’s now or never.
“I think,” you started, “I know how to bring the boys back.”
“The… boys?” Cisco asked. Barry tilted his head while Iris looked interested yet confused.
“Very specific,” Frost did not look amused. Ralph did that little confused nose crinkle. “Not gonna lie, but all the boys are here. In this room. Unless you’re talking about the Backstreet Boys, in which case I would understand.”Everyone looked back at Frost, “What? Their songs are good.”
“I’m talking about Harry.” The atmosphere in the room suddenly shifted, all attention back to you. Your eyes weaved from each of them, gauging their reactions, especially Nash’s. “Sherloque. All the other Wells. Don’t you- Don’t you guys feel that something’s off?”
“(Y/N), listen-”
“No, Barry, please let me finish. Let me explain.” You licked your lips. “Don’t you guys find it weird that Nash is the only one with all his doppelganger’s psyches in his mind? We have doppelgangers too. Why isn’t Echo in Cisco’s head? Earth 2 Barry and Iris in our Barry and Iris’ heads? How come it’s just Nash?”
None of them could answer you. Nash, himself looked lost, but had glanced off to the side.
“Even Eobard was in his head and he wasn’t a Wells, just in a Wells’ body- Besides the point- No, I think this is a clue,” You continued with determination laced onto your features, standing up straight and exuding confidence. “A clue that The Monitor left behind. For us. A clue that can help us find all the earths, all our friends. And this is where my theoretical, but probably not, theory comes in. Iris, you’ve seen Eva control the Mirror Dimension, her “Mirror World” as we call it. Kamila experienced it firsthand.” Both ladies nodded in agreement. “What if all the other earths are hidden in dimensions like the Mirror Dimension? Scattered in different parts of the city, maybe even throughout all of earth. What if Jesse and Harry and Jay are just hidden in a pocket dimension? Yes, post-Crisis erased the possibility of the multi-verse existing, but that doesn’t include multi-dimensions.”
Cisco’s eyes lit up, walking around the main computer monitor and a bit closer to the center of the Cortex. “You’re talking about-”
“Dimensional Manipulation,” You and Cisco said simultaneously. A smile crossed your lips as you saw the gears in his head turning. Barry’s eyes also light up, his speedster brain in overdrive. Everyone else snuck peeks at each other, except Nash, who’s eyes only narrowed slightly.
“Like Edwin Gauss, Folded Man, the bus meta that DeVoe was after that could-”
“Open up dimensions and close them.” You finished with Barry. You let out a shaky breath, seeing realization dawn on all of them. You were beginning to feel giddy, things were making sense.
“Oh my god,” Iris whispered, running hand through her hair before resting it on her right arm. “But this is all theoretical, right?” She looked to Barry and Cisco before locking her gaze back onto you. “I mean we- we haven’t done anything involving dimensions?”
You shrugged your shoulders and walked a few steps towards the group, “We’ve done the impossible. Proven the theoretical, multiple times. Barry, you allowed your cells to quickly regenerate Ralph’s when you did a blood transfusion after Ramsey had attacked him. We have metas running around the city with theoretical powers, with our dashing hero in his red onesie-”
“-Hey, it’s not a onesie!-”
“-With superspeed. How many times are we going to let the word “theoretical” discourage us?” You pursed your lips. Barry nodded as you had spoken, everything making sense. Something is off. Frost and Cisco glanced at one another, agreeing that they’ve crossed the line of what’s possible and impossible before. “What’s once more Team Flash?” A smile played on your lips as you dared to say that.
Nash cleared his throat, your eyes locked onto his and you noticed a little glint within his blue irises. “So, you mean to tell me- tell us, that I can have my mind to myself again? The guys- I won’t have to see them or hear them?”
“I think so,” you folded your arms, “I know I’m just the team medic, but I really think I have a good idea on how to go about this. And what things to use- I just… I just wanted to run my theory by you guys. Especially Barry and Cisco, maybe we can tag Chester along to help. You three are the main tech guys here so…”
“What about me?” Nash raised an eyebrow at you along with a hand, to which he pointed to himself, and you inwardly cursed knowing that stubborn Wells trait was gonna show up anytime soon. “I can-”
“Are you requiring a bargain out of this too?” You smirked at him, jokingly. That shut the multiversal explorer up. You just looked at him as he let out a few words in a stutter. “You can help. One because if I told you not to, you were going to do it anyway.” Nash just sheepishly smiled and nodded to himself, because he knew he was anyway. “Two, you’re just as stubborn as all the other Wells men I’ve met. I just want you to not physically or mentally strain and/or harm yourself, doctor’s order.” Nash made a face knowing that statement followed with a “because”. “I’m not going to lie to you, I don’t if what we end up doing physically or mentally taxes your body, but I do have a backup plan since this is my area of general expertise.”
Nash seemed satisfied by your answer and smirked to himself, eyes looking off to the side before focusing back to you and the group. I wonder if Harry can hear me. Harry, I’m coming for you.
“Okay so,” Cisco started up, finishing a twizzler and walking over to stand beside you, “we’re going to find all these earths which could or could not be hidden in said pocket dimensions, yank out each Wells from Dusty’s head over here, meanwhile being able to catalog everything and being on the lookout for Eva and her two-face mirror clones. Do you have any idea how many earths there were? How many Wells there are in Nash’s head? Hell, how are we even going to manipulate dimensions-multiple dimensions-if we don’t have any leads?”
You snapped your fingers at him, “Well, here’s where the fun starts for our resident genius mechanical engineer.” Cisco smiled at your words. You walked around the main Cortex monitors, pulling up data and schematics, everyone crowds around you. “I’m thinking that there has to be some sort of fluctuation in this new world, whether it’s on the level of varying frequencies or on a subatomic-molecular level that’s distinct, but not too expansive that a person from Earth Prime can just find themselves in an alternate dimension.”
You took a drink of your water bottle as Cisco looked at the satellite schematics, nodding his head, “It’s possible, I may have to go over some algorithms and adjust them according to what we find. But nothing’s set in stone just yet until a trial is done.”
“What about hijacking Nash’s head?” Frost speaks up, pointing a thumb back to the geological myth-buster. “How are we going to do that?”
“Wait, back up. Does this mean that you guys are all on board with this?” You asked, taking a step back and looking at them all. You thought you’d have to do more to persuade them with everything going on.
“Well, yeah.” Barry shrugs, “It’s worth a shot and until we can find a legitimate reason not to, we can always try. Plus, no matter what happens, Harrison Wells is an essential part of the team. Especially Harry and Sherloque. So, what you got for us?”
You smiled widely to yourself, hope swelling inside your heart. “We’re going to need a couple of things that we’ve used the past couple of years. First, the MAD 2.0. I’m going to use that to enter Nash’s mind to find Harry and Sherloque, hopefully run this entire shebang all by them. A fresh set of eyes to see if there’s any holes we could fill.” Running a hand through you hair, you continued, “We’ve literally got a wells of information in Nash’s head, we could also use that to pinpoint how to get back at Eva.” Everyone, especially Iris and Kamila were more than satisfied by that idea. Eva’s Mirrorverse and Joseph’s Blackhole organization have been wreaking havoc since the post-Crisis events, harming more people than any other regular meta. “Second, we’re going to have to bring out the Mindscape device and Harry’s Cerebral Inhibitor. I think if we hook them up together, we’d be able to create a bridge from Nash’s mindscape to another Wells’.”
“But how are we going to separate them from my neural wavelengths?” Nash asked the million-dollar question.
“That’s where your Neural Splicer comes in! We connect that up to the Cerebral Inhibitor, which could allow us to simultaneously return each Wells to their respective bodies without going back and forth for every individual mindscape. Effectively separate their psyches from Nash without harming him. We’d just need to make sure everything is calibrated correctly.”
“And then I can have my mind to myself, finish going on my adventures.”
“No more voices, no more hallucinations.” You put your hands together. “The last thing we’d need is a dimensional extrapolator-”
“-Which won’t be possible unless we find a dimension and analyze its coordinates to create safe passage between our friends and our earth dimension.” Cisco adds glancing to Barry, who only rubbed the side of his face. It was a lot to take in, it took a while for your mind to wrap around every detail, every idea in order to fully make sure you knew what you were proposing.”
“So, what do we think?” Your eyes darted to each and every one of them. They looked to each other then to Nash, back to each other.
“When do we start?” Barry grins at you who’s currently leaning against the railing, seemingly speaking on behalf of the team as they nod at each other with confidence and determination.

Week 4
Influence, Imitation, Intertextuality, Reception
This week we shall consider various ways in which the relationship between texts has been conceptualised, and in particular we shall look at the concepts of “imitation”, “influence” and “intertextuality”: what is the difference between them? If we consider the relationship between two writers or texts through one or other of these concepts, does it lead us to understand the literary relationship differently? Does each allow us to see something that the others do not?  What if we put the way the reader reads first - how do the historical, social, cultural contexts in which a text is received affect the ‘meaning’ of texts? How do we understand a particular text in relation to its historical predecessors or successors? What happens if we consider these relationships within a national literature or in comparative cross-cultural and cross-linguistic terms? Do these concepts lead to the exclusion of certain texts? If so, why, and with what consequences? The texts read over the last two weeks will help us consider how these concepts work in practice; we shall return to them again in the following weeks.

Thank you, Luka! You and I like similar people and, especially in light of some of the posts I've come across on this platform, I love that a lot of the guys I believe you and I like aren't ~afraid of women, specifically strong women. For instance, and please share if you feel differently, I don't see any of the Batfam guys (especially Bruce and Jay, who come across as traditionally masculine) feeling threatened by women who may earn more or do something better or differently than them (1)
(2) For all of Bruce's faults and hangups, I couldn't see him trying to sabotage or trying to "bring down to size" his significant other or force them to dim their light because they were richer, high achieving, did their own thing that was different to him (to the point where others who saw the two of them together may think, "...what do they actually have in common???"), etc.
I like male characters who drink their respecting women juice, which includes a) not feeling "emasculated" by their excellence (bonus points for actually being huge fans of how cool the women in their lives are); b) not threatening them on the basis of their gender. I have zero tolerance for anything resembling misogyny with male characters.
Jason is definitely an excellent example imo, especially since he seems to connect with and trust women far more easily than other men. I also agree about Bruce; he has...many...problems, but I don't think sexism is one of them. The writing of his series may be sexist at times, but he's not written to be sexist himself, if that makes sense. (I'm thinking of how the writers treated Stephanie as Robin, for example, or how DC thinks that no self-respecting male character would ever go down on a female character.........) If he were to sabotage anything, it would be the relationship itself, and it would have nothing to do with his partner being a woman/theoretically "better" than him in some way.

4. Which of your fics this year was most successful?
As far as stats go? That’d be Dragon Anatomy 101 with a current grand total of 1600+ views and 200+ kudos.
As far as reader engagement? Definitely She Painted Fire Across the Skyline. It has the highest number of subscribers amidst any of my Descendants fics and the second highest comment thread count, plus I’ve received a lot of support and enthusiasm from lovely fandom friends of mine, so I feel like it beats out Dragon Anatomy in that sense (mind you, DA is a oneshot……. theoretically lol, ‘cause I’ve gotten a lot of ideas for giving that bb a sequel or several, but anyway).
6. What’s your favourite piece of dialogue you wrote this year?
I’ve pointed to some specific scenes in my last couple answers, but the one that comes to mind right now is actually an entire fic haha. Your Baby Ain’t Sweet Like Mine ft. non-verbal (werewolf) Carlos, who doesn’t speak an entire word for the full length of that oneshot, so I had to challenge myself to have Jay carry the conversation without it coming across as one-sided. I had a lot of fun with that fic and I’m definitely planning to write more for that verse. As someone with selective mutism, I’m really passionate about showing how lack of dialogue doesn’t equate to lack of communication.
7. What’s your favourite piece of description or narration?
HMMM… my mind goes to this one part of She Painted Fire which I’m really quite fond of:
She’d invited herself over, despite that he’d tried to dissuade her every step of the way to Hell Hall— (‘I’m not scared of your mom,’ she’d insisted.) —and every step up the grand staircase to the second floor, across the landing, toward the door— (‘I’m not scared of a dumb closet, either.’) —and over the threshold into the mouth of his personal hell, lined with iron teeth. (‘Huh. Pretty creepy, I guess.’)
Mal’s boldness had frightened and astounded him. She’d gone straight to inspecting his mother’s things, pulling down various pairs of heels and strutting around, doing her best “Cruella De Vil” impression. He’d laughed in spite of himself, and when Mal tossed him a pair to try… he did.

Which Ninja Has Really Had The Most Focus Seasons? Let’s Find Out!
I am not here to end the focus ninja debate, I’m here to perpetuate it. We tend to squabble over the little things when we talk about this. Who gets to open their eyes in the beginning of the episode? Who’s on the set boxes? What counts as a real season? Well, I’ve come up with a system to try and quantify some of this. Now, it’s not perfect, and you might disagree with what I put where, or even the structure of my system, but I think the results are a fair estimate of how much time the writers actually spend with each character. And also, there are some pretty interesting conclusions to look at, so if you want to know more, join me under the cut :)
(Fair warning, this is a lengthy one)
How Does This Work?
I have 4 tiers of points. Focus, half focus, sub focus, and misc. Focus is worth 4 points, and is for ninja who are the sole focus of a full-length season. Half focus is worth 3 points, and is for focus ninja of split seasons, or seasons that share focus ninja. Sub focus is worth 2 points, and is for ninja who have a large, season defining plotline, but aren’t important enough to be the sole focus. I use this category to settle a lot of the debatable seasons. Misc. is worth 1 point, and is for the focus ninja of a short/special, sub focus of a half season, and other little things like that. Whatever ninja earns the most focus points has had the most focus time dedicated to them (theoretically).
I will be including all of the seasons, along with the pilot episodes, Day of the Departed, and the Prime Empire shorts, because these are pretty solidly essential viewing when watching the show. I’m not including stuff like Wu’s Tea, and those original ninjago shorts cuz… well, first off, I don’t think anyone really cares about them, but also, they’re not essential, and don’t really have focus ninja anyway. For the record, I am counting March of the Oni as a special and not a season. And no, I’m not including the movie. Duh.
I’m awarding points to any character I feel earns one, but not villains. Of course, villains are going to get decent screen time, that’s how basic plot structure works. In addition to characters, I will also be awarding points to an ensemble category, for any seasons that do not have a focus ninja. Though, the ensemble can only earn points at the focus and half focus levels. The ensemble earning points for sub focus just… doesn’t make sense. Like yeah, the rest of the cast is there… in every season. That’s how having a cast of characters generally works.
I would also like to add that this does not take into account the quality of the seasons. There’s always a debate to be had that the highest scoring ninja deserves another season, cuz the ones they’ve had are bad. I’m just interested in quantity. Alright? And again, this isn’t an end all be all answer, it’s just a set of numbers based on my perception of each season. I just want to start some more informed discussion.
And last but not least, spoilers.
The Breakdown:
(if you don’t care about my reasoning in assigning points, feel free to skip to the results)
Pilot Episodes
Kai is the focus character in these. I don’t know that anyone’s gonna fight me on that one. This is a special, so 1 point for Kai.
Season 1
Now, this one’s a bit trickier, because Kai is still noticeably the main character, but compared to the pilots, his role seems pretty equal within the cast of the OG 4. The season is about all of them growing as individuals and as a team together. Kai serves more as an insider POV than a real pure focus. I’m going to dub this an ensemble season (4 points) with a sub focus on Kai (2 points)
Season 2
Lloyd is definitely central to the plot this season, and does do the whole final battle thing, but again, the season is more about the ninja training Lloyd than Lloyd himself. Additionally, Kai serves as narrator this season, and gets himself some pretty sizable speeches etc. Again, I’m going to give ensemble 4 points for focus, and Kai and Lloyd both get 2 points each for sub focus.
Season 3
This is a Zane season. He gets the final battle, and the big realizations, and the love interest, it’s his season. There are some sizable sub plots this season, but none of them big enough to give anyone sub focus points. 4 points to Zane.
Season 4
This is a Kai season. He has the angst and love interest; he gets the points. Now, some people might think Zane earns sub points because the plot focuses on finding him, but that doesn’t mean he got more screen time than normal. That’s a plot device, not character time. He has a good little mini arc, but like… so does Garmadon, and Lloyd, and pretty much everyone. Kai gets 4 points.
Season 5
This season doesn’t have a focus ninja. Lloyd does get the intro, but he’s possessed half the season. Again, that’s a plot device, not character time. I’m labeling this as an ensemble season, so 4 more points to ensemble. The two arcs that really define this season are Nya becoming the water ninja, and Cole becoming a ghost. 2 points each for sub focus.
Season 6
This is a Jay season. This is undebatably a Jay season. 4 points for Jay. In fact, this season focuses on Jay to such an extent that they actively kick other characters out of the show in order to focus on him more. That’s getting him an extra point, cuz it’s kinda ridiculous, and this is my thing so I can do what I want. Now, this season focuses a lot on his relationship with Nya. He shares his title card with her. That’s not nothing. She has a sizable arc, and noticeable presence. I’m giving her 2 points for sub focus.
Day of the Departed
This is a Cole special. Do I really have to explain myself on this one? 1 point for Cole.
Season 7
Our first split season! This is a pretty clear-cut Kai and Nya season. I wouldn’t say one overpowers the other. They share the spotlight pretty well. 3 points each for half season.
Season 8
This is a Lloyd season. It’s his dad getting brought back, his angsty drama, his love interest, his season. 4 points for Lloyd. There are some other noticeable plotlines, but none of them big enough to award points for.
Season 9
Another split season, this time taking place in two separate locations. Season 9 in Ninjago is pretty much just season 8 continued. Same tone, location, conflict, everything. This half is still a Lloyd Season. 3 half season points to him. The half in the first realm is harder to pin down though. It’s mostly an ensemble season, but I do feel Wu and Cole’s relationship plays a big enough role to earn them some points, especially since it’s a multi season arc. I’m going to use the misc. category to award them both 1 point.
March of the Oni
This is a Lloyd special. I mean, they had some pretty good ensemble stuff, and them giving the intro to Cole was cute and all but... It’s Lloyd’s special. He dies and talks to God before being resurrected. Classic main character stuff. 1 point to Lloyd.
Season 11
It’s a split season again! But I would like to award full focus to the ensemble. Both chapters either focus way too much on side characters or split the time pretty equally between the core cast for it to be anything else. 4 points to the ensemble. But I would like to single out Kai and Wu as both having significant arcs. The first chapter spends a lot of time on Wu’s past, mistakes, and guilt. And Kai’s arc is put noticeably center, resolving in the last episode of the season. I’d like to give these two 1 misc. point each. To those who would argue that Zane needs points for his ice chapter… no. First of all, he was gone for the majority of the ice chapter, and was being used, yet again, as a plot device rather than a character. And also, technically, that would conflict with my no points to villains rule.
Prime Empire Shorts
These are weird, but most of them focus on Jay’s experience in Prime Empire, so 1 point goes to him.
Season 12
Now, this is, at least as of right now, a half season. It’s 16 10-minute episodes, that’s one chapter’s worth, so I’m going to award points accordingly. Now, a lot of people might think this is a Jay season, but the story doesn’t follow Jay’s perspective. That’s what the prime empire shorts were for. The story follows the ninja going to find Jay. And yes, based on episode descriptions, there is an episode where Jay fights a boss all by himself, but it’s not the final boss, and it’s only one episode where he’s on his own. I mean, Okino had his own episode this season, and this isn’t an Okino season. So, though I will award him 1 point for being a sub focus in a half season, I’m awarding 3 half focus points to the ensemble.

Conclusions:
Well, there are several things I got out of this. Obviously, Kai scored highest in most categories. He was the main character of the pilot, so it’s really not surprising that the writers have ideas for his character. That being said, I do find it funny that, even though we would all agree that Lloyd is the series’ overall main character, he does not appear in the pilot. People watching the pilot to get a feel for the series would be missing the most important character. That’s just really funny to me. Additionally, the main character of the show did not score the most focus points. He was in the double digits though, so he really can’t complain too much.
The Times High Ranking Points Were Earned data refers to times a character got points for being the focus ninja of a season/half season. For all of the fuss people give about Kai and Lloyd having like 5 seasons, it’s really only 2 each that they have an undebatable hold on. And on top of that, they both only have one all to themselves. Kai having season 4 and sharing season 7, and Lloyd having season 8 and sharing season 9. They do have an absurd amount of sub focus on top of all that though, which is definitely what trips everyone up.
I was surprised Nya scored as well as she did, especially for joining the team late. In fact, if you take off the bonus point I gave to Jay, she would actually score higher than him. Even though she doesn’t have a solo focus season, she has a decent amount of focus in 3 consecutive seasons. Also, Wu made it on the board, which is good for him.
Again, unsurprisingly, Cole scored lowest in almost all categories. There’s a reason the Cole fans are pissed. The 0 high ranking points stat is really telling and seriously stings. But, the one thing he did score well on was times points were earned. Though he has little personal focus, the focus that he has is recurring and spread across the series. I would also like to add that he didn’t even score any points for his ongoing friendship arc with Jay, which did put his character fairly center stage for a while. I mean, though Cole doesn’t have any big focus areas, I would still say he’s got some decent development with several multi season arcs. He’s definitely not being totally ignored by the series or anything.
On the opposite side, one of the saddest things to me personally is that Zane was not only tied with Cole for focus points, but also was ranked lowest (lower than even Wu) in times points were earned. That means season 3 is the only point in the series when he held any meaningful and sustained focus. There are no shorts for him, or larger important plot lines, it’s just season 3. I mean, he was supposed to have more focus than Cole, right? We always rag on the fact that Cole doesn’t have a season, so he must have the least focus. Zane had his own season, surely he would have scored higher! But when you look back you realize that even though he’s had presence, the amount of meaningful stuff he actually does is pretty minimal. Seriously, writers, time to get this droid some sub focus.
Speaking of droids, I would like to bring up something I’m sure no one else was thinking about while doing this, and that’s Pixal. Pixal has been a part of the show since season 3 and has technically been working on the team ever since Season 4. By the looks of season 11, the writers want to include her as part of the main cast. They gave her a plot with Kai, Cole, and Jay where she basically led the defense of the monastery. She got her first solo episode in the ice chapter. Though the episodes aren’t out yet, season 12 episode descriptions seem to have her taking on a more active and offensive role and operating on equal footing with Zane. She is a member of the core cast now. Although she did join recently, it is interesting that a full-fledged member of the team didn’t score any points. Both Lloyd and Nya officially joining the team earned them some sub focus points. I just find it interesting that Pixal’s joining the team didn’t get her the same. Maybe there’s a more formal ‘joining the team’ arc for her coming in the future, but as for right now, she remains in this strange focus-less limbo.
My favorite finding though is that the ensemble category just dominated pretty much everything. Ninjago at its core is an ensemble show, and I honestly think it’s at its best when it just functions as one. What are some of the fandom’s least favorite seasons? 3, 6, and 7, right? These are all very clear-cut ninja focus seasons. I really think the fandom needs to stop forcing ninja labels onto every single season, cuz it really doesn’t do them any real service. It just makes you disappointed that X ninja is getting yet another season, or this X ninja season isn’t focusing enough on X ninja. Just enjoy the show for what it is! An ensemble show! The ninja shine best when they interact off of each other, not when they’re left to process their troubles alone.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. Feel free to comment any other cool data connections I missed! I hope this did a little bit to enhance your perspective on focus seasons, focus ninja, etc. It also probably made focus sound like a non word, so I’m sorry about that one. I know this is a long one, so seriously, thanks for reading!

Alright, so in the middle of this S12 chaos (because no doubt that there’s more to come tomorrow), I actually saw Tournament of Elements for the first time. And I...think I might be falling on the unpopular side here.
I mean, it’s not terrible at all, in fact I think it’s alright, but I don’t think it has much flavour. Or at least, not the flavour that made Ninjago appeal to me. Let’s just go over points.
-This season has an upside; moreso than any old season thus far, there’s more MVPs amongst the main ninja. Zane is great throughout when we see him, Cole gets a surprisingly focused sub-plot, and Jay pulls his weight in the early part of the season immensely. They gets lots of moments to shine and provide some brevity that I appreciated. -That does mean however that I think Kai and Lloyd suffer for the tone shift. Lloyd especially is so boring this season, a far cry from the first two seasons where he was doing a lot of the legwork. Kai has a flash or two, but otherwise he’s either in serious mode or “annoying fallen for someone on sight” mode. He actually came off rather skeevy at some times too, The idea of the green ninja jealousy is done...well, it manages to conceptualise why this may be a thing after what S1 and S2 established (thoughts resurfacing in a bout of depression), but it feels like the execution is undercooked...which will be a theme. -Nya’s got a pretty strong arc, so that’s appreciated. You can definitely tell this season is setting up for her to be the water ninja, there’s just so many signs, but at least her character was active without that slant to it. That being said, the whole Samurai X thing is kinda abandoned this season, isn’t it? -Speaking of abandoned plots, that love triangle was done with way quicker than I was expecting. You get a couple of episodes where it gets to flare up, resolve it in the third, and then that’s it. Can’t say I hate that being undercooked, it was terrible. I guess the writers came to that conclusion too, because Cole was back to feeling like pre-Codename Arcturus (aka only doing it to spite Jay, not having interest in Nya).  -Also speaking of undercooked...there’s Skylor. I can’t really come to hate her but that’s because she’s just such a bland character. She really is the generic action girl (something levied at Nya a lot even though I’ve never really seen it) and is mostly defined by either her romance to Kai (said romance being as hokey and cliche as it sounded, so the best romance of the season was still Zane and Pixal), or her literal relation to Chen. But I certainly won’t complain about her being manipulative and that because...you know...that was her job prior to her turn.  -This can apply to almost all the Elemental Masters, who get small moments to show their stuff but otherwise are just more characters to add to the pile. The only ones who significantly stood out for me were Karlof, Neuro and Shade, and out of those only Karlof was for entertainment value. He does also demonstrate the power of character writing though; at no point was I distracted by him sharing the same face as Okino, the mannerisms and expression work was just so different between them. -Dareth I’m mixed on. He seems more like dead weight by the end of the season, but he had some good moments at the start, especially his surprising ingenuity with the Kabuki disguise for Nya. -Likewise, even Sensei Garmadon, Wu and Misako feel like they didn’t have much. Sensei Garmadon started strong, but then was kind of reduced to exposition (although he did end on a high note). Meanwhile Wu and Misako felt extraneous even though the final plot point hinges on their relationships. What? -Pythor, in some twist of fate, comes in with a fairly last minute play to be near the top of the character chain. He was back on S1 form, and it was good to see him in good form again. -I liked Chen. With the Overlord acting as such a stoic villain for the most part, it was refreshing having someone as comedic as Chen in the villain helm, while still being plenty vicious and capable of villainy. Clouse I should theoretically like, but again, he was way stoic. -It was also nice to see the cameos -If you like lore, there’s plenty of lore here (there’s even like an episode that’s basically that). It’s interesting to see, but wasn’t great for the flow of the story.  -Pacing really killed this season for me, but for the opposite reason of the other seasons; it ended up going too slow. Like, after episode five, it really started to drag on me.
So overall, S4 for me is a season that has an interesting overall premise, and really sells that at the start, but loses steam before it gets to the end. Not helping is the fact a lot of the characters and many sub-plots feel like they’re underdeveloped, possibly being a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth. This is the real start of the lore building so hopefully that pays off in interesting ways.
I guess I just don’t hold the same values in a series as other fans because I’d rather have the more light-hearted stuff with more serious bits sprinkled in than the rabbit hole the old stuff seems to be diving in to of taking itself way more seriously and caring more about the lore.
That being said, I’d still say it’s better than S3, that season just went up and down and it wasn’t cohesive aside from Zane’s plot. This one feels more thought out, but just isn’t for me.
Next up in terms  of watching the show is Possession, which was very, very heavily foreshadowed at the end of S4. I know it also takes the dive into being more serious, but it’s also a lot lower on the characters in the plot so maybe it’ll have more time to play about with its ideas.
But more immediately next up is more modern Ninjago chaos, and I am way down for that!
