Do you belive Flayn hates what you (or the Death Knight) did to her? Do you think there would ever be a chance to reconcile if she was still in Fodland after the war ends?

An interesting question.

I would not blame her if she hated me, or wanted me dead, or had any other negative feelings towards me. I barely remember what happened that day. There are a few blurry memories, but the Death Knight was the one who carried out the deeds. That doesn't excuse it, of course- I do not ever expect her to forgive me.

Truthfully, I doubt I will see Flayn again in my lifetime. I know she has apparently gone into hiding with Seteth. I suspect they will remain there for the foreseeable future. But if she did return to society, and if for some reason we found ourselves in the same room... I'm not too sure what would happen. She has every right to drive a dagger through my heart. I'm not sure if I would make an effort to stop her.

... Or not. Flayn was always known to be a kind and forgiving person. She knows the nature of the Agarthans, I'm sure she knows what extents they go to. Perhaps if she accepted that the Death Knight- that I- was just a pawn in their game, she might find it in herself to be... neutral with me. I would give her any apologies she wanted, like I did with Manuela. Whether she accepted them or not would be up to her.

One thing is certain though: her father would see me hanged if he still possessed any power. There will be no reconciliation with Seteth.

What is your opinion on gods/goddesses in general? Since they are gods and have godly powers, are they automatically required to only use them to benefit humanity or is that power only theirs to decide what to do with?

If they must decree themselves as deities, building churches for worship and demanding tribute from the people, then yes. They are automatically required to make themselves worth such adulate praise by benefitting their “flock”. Otherwise, if they wish only to live their life and decide what to do with their power at will, then they must relinquish the title of god, goddess, or whatever self-aggrandizing nonsense they might choose.

These parameters are staggeringly simple to adhere to.

I’ve yet to see even the most gifted people elevated to godhood without prompting. Jeralt was highly accomplished and indeed, had subtle powers extended to him by the transfusion from Rhea. Yet he was only the Blade Breaker, a mercenary of legendary renown, but no deity. He didn’t encourage or discourage the title. Let that be your evidence that it is entirely possible to receive accolades without starting a false religion for the sole purpose of subjugating a people for one’s own benefit.

What is the "Maintain Parasocial Distance" thing? Is that like a separate project that Ryan is doing? Why do people need a warning about asking invasive questions, is there something going on?

Thanks for asking, because I have always kinda wanted to talk about this.

Parasocial interactions refer to the sort of relationship that audience members develop with celebrities and other performers. When people watch a performer for long enough, they can begin to view this performer as a friend. Even if the audience member acknowledges that they aren’t actually friends with this performer, they still can become emotionally-invested in this performer’s career and personal life.

Parasocial distance refers to the emotional/social distance fans keep from their favorite performers. Maintaining parasocial distance refers to acknowledging that the performer/fan relationship is largely one-sided and that the performer and fan are not “friends.” As much as some performers enjoy and encourage fan engagement, fans (and performers) need to realize that they are, ultimately, strangers.

This isn’t to say that there should be no interaction between creator and fan. Instead, I feel that a lot of interactions should be viewed as if they are taking place between strangers on a bus. If a stranger on the bus genuinely complimented someone or was just generally supportive, they’re probably being nice. However, if that stranger was “playfully” rude or started fawning over the person or asked personal questions, they do not come off as that nice – even if you don’t mind your friends treating you in a similar way.

I made the initial post after Ryan’s engagement and I reblogged it again today in the wake of Steven’s engagement. I made it because, as anyone who has ever gotten married or had a friend get married knows, for some reason, people love to come out of the woodwork to give unsolicited advice about the wedding and ask invasive questions. “It should be in THIS church.” “You two should wear this and serve this.” “Are you going to have kids?” “*looks at non-engaged couple* So when are YOU going to tie the knot?” People have a lot of opinions about weddings and they have a lot of questions about the future. It’s okay to think about these things, but it’s important to remember that it really is none of our business.

I’ll be honest, I’m not active on the same social media platforms the boys are active on. I myself haven’t seen responses to these announcements and the posts that follow. Perhaps everyone just says “congratulations” and that’s it. I hope that’s the case. However, I have seen things in fan-circles that echo the kind of comments in the previous paragraph, and I hope that these comments never touch a platform where the boys would see them. For the most part, this fandom is pretty good at keeping fan interactions and creator interactions separate. That’s great! They’re maintaining parasocial distance! However, I noticed that there has been some spillover between fan-space and creator-space when there is a major life event.

For example, fans have repeatedly asked the boys to post a “why I left BuzzFeeed” video. They might post that video. In fact, they probably will once the contracts are up. However, that doesn’t make it acceptable to go up to someone, a stranger, and ask, “Hey, why did you quit your job?” Some people may not think that this is a kinda entitled question to ask someone you don’t know; I, however, think it is. I acknowledge that it’s a little subjective, but I err on the side of caution. And I think that asking about people’s personal lives is way more invasive than asking questions about their career; which is why I didn’t bring up parasocial distance until recently.

I don’t think that the majority of fans need the warning I posted. Most of the fans I know pretty much keep to themselves and stay in fan-cultivated corners of the internet. However, weddings tend to bring out people’s invasive side. So I felt compelled to post.

TL;DR – “Maintaining Parasocial Distance” means “We respect these people, but acknowledge that we are not friends. Therefore, our interactions with them should reflect this.” People need to be reminded about this sometimes, especially when there is a major life event. (Also, Steven’s getting married! Mazel tov, Steven!)

Kisuke for Ask Game 1 please

My favourite thing about them: I may have issues with his methods, but Kisuke recognises when something is a problem and will do his best to sort the issue. When shit hits the fan he is very much a ‘the end justify the means’ kinda guy, I don’t necessarily agree with it, but it makes him a very interesting character and I appreciate that SOMEONE is doing something in this world where anything but 1v1 fights seem to be considered dishonourable (like, I can understand the thought process but who cares about that if the world is about to end you know?)

My least favourite thing about them: He pretty much never asks for consent in his plans. Like if he had actually sat down with Rukia and explained that he wanted to hide the hogyoku inside her because he couldn’t let Aizen get it, and that she would actually be pretty safe if everything worked out because he has a gigai that can make her human and therefore pretty much undetectable, you don’t think she would’ve at least considered it? But he totally takes her out of the decision making process and just straight up does it without her knowing. I understand that he needed to do something, and it actually is a good plan to be fair, but he never asks before doing which is not great, and he does this multiple times.

Random headcanon: Kisuke 100% has a storage cupboard that is filled with at least 20 of those hats at any one time. He always wants to make sure he’s got spares, and in his line of work, he gets through them much quicker than he’d like.

Who I wished they interacted more with: Arrancars in general! Given he did create the hogyoku to try and mess around with the whole shinigami/hollow combination (if i remember correctly anyway), I don’t think he would treat arrancars any different to how he would shinigami because he knows damn well they aren’t actually that different. Intentions are way more important than origin to him, which I think would’ve made some interesting interactions because I imagine most hollow based creatures/people just assume shinigami hate them.

Something I would’ve liked to see of them: How in the fuck did he get Grimmjow into an alliance with him? Was it a calm but serious conversation about how the quincies are about to destroy everything so might as well team up to take them down? Did Kisuke mislead him? Did he just promise Grimmjow a rematch with Ichigo? It could be any of these and I would’ve loved to see any of those options!

Mind/body control to harm a loved one is one of my faaaaaaaavorite tropes! Partner that with a little good old, hurt-in-front-of-loved-ones and you’ve got an excellent bit of whump there!

Here are some ideas with varying situations in which B may or may not be willing.

A equals Whumpee

B equals Whumper

(Below the cut for long post)

A is injured and needs immediate action. However, the only option they have is to try an experimental medicine on A. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t but what does inevitably happen is an endless, burning pain, lighting all their nerves on fire and nearly driving them insane from pain.

A volunteers to be experimented on, making B promise not to stop the experiments, no matter what they say while undergoing them. A quickly grows to regret this but no matter how much they plead, B stays true to their promise and doesn't stop.  

B must torture whoever is brought before them in order to keep A alive. They do, ruthlessly and relentlessly, telling themselves that it’s okay because it’s all for A. Until the day A is brought on to their table. A doesn’t know what’s happening, where B has been or what B has been doing, only that they’ve been reunited. B knows that A will die unless B tortures them. They have no choice.

B must torture A so they aren’t both killed. A may or may not know.

A and B are told that in order to save countless innocent lives, one must harm the other. They must administer an experimental drug to one of them. A and B agree and manage to sneak in one condition, that they will administer the drug. The drug hurts A but the experiments keep going, A growing weaker and in steadily more pain as blood, bone, hair, nails, etc. are taken. They come back with their body covered in little, precise, surgical scars that they don’t remember getting. They tear at their skin and come close to accidentally harming themselves while fighting this drug. Still, B is forced to administer it. Slowly, A starts flinching away from B.

B is mind controlled into harming A. The entire time, B is pleading for them to return to their old selves, to break through the control. Until suddenly, all they can do is scream. Their pleading for their loved one turns to pleading for it all to stop.

B joins an enemy group, maybe of their own volition, maybe not. A rescue attempt goes wrong and A is captured and brought down by the enemy group. In order to prove their loyalty, B must torture A. Maybe it’s all a ruse until B can break them both out, maybe B really is that far gone.

A and B belong to a group that is against non-humans. They believe that non-humans are only good to be servants or experiments until their eventual death, often by execution. However, the worst kind of being is one who is only partially human, those creatures are meant only for experimentation. Any experimental practice that would be considered inhumane for animals or humans is okay for them. Live experiments, vivisections, anything and everything one can imagine. Slowly, starts to realize that they are not fully human. One day they either confide in B or B finds out on their own. B turns them in and A becomes a living experiment. They hold out hope that B will change their mind and come to rescue them. Until the day B shows up to experiment on them.

A is captured and tortured/experimented on. B slowly infiltrates until they can rescue A. However, before B can rescue A, B is brought in to effect torture/experiments on A.

I’m not as good at emotional whump...But any of these can be used to turn on the angst!

Would Nabateans be considered an endangered species? And would you consider it right that they are distrustful of humanity at best (due to most of them being turned into Relics, not to mention the murder and relic of Sothis as well)?

To my knowledge, that wouldn’t be a false statement. Their numbers never recovered after the attack on Ailell and the ensuing war. With only Rhea and Flayn left, with Flayn being related to the remaining men, I wouldn’t be optimistic about their survival. There may be some other means of reproduction that I’m unaware of, but I can’t see why they wouldn’t have employed it already if such a method existed.

Sitri suggests there was something in development, presumed abandoned for the poor health it left new Nabateans with. This does mean that Byleth themselves is half-Nabatean.

Perhaps they will life on in another form. I would say that is better for their sake than extinction.

As for their distrust, it is difficult for me to say. Logically, I am inclined to say they have no right to resent all of humanity for the actions of the relatively few. Certainly not when those who are innocent of these deeds that earned their ire are the ones suffering the most.

But it is also true that I despise the Nabateans for the nightmares they have allowed to become reality. As a further distinction, I am more spiteful towards Rhea and Sothis than I am towards Seteth and Flayn. I am capable of acknowledging nuance, and one would think that creatures with centuries to reach the same conclusions would have managed in it in that time.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I will do both since I did the other one for Goddess Julia. 

Julia: 

1) She’s my favorite, both as a self-reflection character and an aspiration. There’s so much that I can relate to in her and I wish I had her strength and resilience. 

2) Kady x Julia, Alice x Julia, Kady x Penny 40 x Julia, (also Sansa Stark x Julia for non-magicians) 

3) Again, Quentin x Julia Brotp 

4)  Ahhh, this is hard. My heart says nothing, she’s perfect. BUT she has a tendency to use people. Mostly, this is season 1 when she is so tunnel-visioned on finding magic that she will do whatever it takes. And I think it’s a symptom of her determinism that she, for the most part, grows out of. 

5) Where to begin? If she could be in control of her body for one whole season that would be great. 

Quentin: 

1) I like Quentin, but he has never been my favorite character. Probably because I relate to more of the negative things about him and it makes me extra critical.

2) Queliot and Penntin 

3) Quentin x Julia OR Quentin x Margo

4) I did not like Season 1 Quentin and I hated Book 1 Quentin.  He wasn’t a good friend or boyfriend to anyone. (they weren’t always in return either, but that’s not the point)  Alice, Margo, Eliot did most of the work early on in their relationships. He got a lot more than he gave. He did grow up and own his mistakes and he tries to be better and that won me over. 

5) Other than obvious things like being alive, I wish we could have seen him actually get to be a king in Fillory.
