2022 - WEEK 33 WRAP-UP

Thought I should get back into doing a weekly round-up, something I used to do many, many years ago when I had more free time and less stress from real-life issues. It's also a nice time capsule, scrolling past things I was reading or writing or fangirling about.

I changed my Tumblr's pfp, so it matches my AO3's and Dreamwidth's pfp. I'm still using different usernames on all three platforms, but that’s fine. I like the variety.

I also wrote my first CMBYN fic. It's a drabble for one of the prompt communities on Dreamwidth. Nothing much. I don't think it captured the vibe of the book. I definitely need to re-read the source material and re-watch the film, but I'm just glad I was able to revisit the fandom.

For WIPs, I finished a few fics for some prompt events coming up. But I also wrote down a few more plot bunnies that may never see the light of day. If only I had unlimited time and creative energy….A girl can dream. 😂

I Hear the Sunspot, manga series Link: Goodreads Thoughts: This is such a cute yaoi series featuring two college students — Kohei, a hearing impaired student, and Taichi, his note-taker. The drawings are beautiful and the storyline is heartwarming. Highly recommend.

Sasaki and Miyano, anime series Link: Trakt Thoughts: Another cute, wholesome yaoi anime series. It's a high school, slice of life anime about two people getting together. I spent a day re-watching this series since they released an extra episode recently, and it was as good as I remembered it. The animation — the flowers and the colors and the shapes that overlay the scenes — conveys the joy of falling in love for the first time and ahhh. My heart cannot handle this.

Redamancy (opalescentgold)

Soulmate AU, the longest one on this list and my honest favourite Spectre-Fix-It; James and Q are soulmates, marks on their skin make things more complicated. A lot of angst, beautifully written 125k+ fic to take some of that Spectre-induced pain away.

The One Who Made Him Stay (JayPendragon)

Another Spectre-Fix-It, in which James comes back without Madeleine, but this time it’s BAMF!Q, a kidnapping and a first kiss. Lot’s of Q backstory. 60k words. Let me say less, get into that slow build!

Brevity and Opulence (loveindirtytrenchcoats)

Yet another Spectre-Fix-It inspired by the original/overhauled script. Kidnapped Q (yes, this is my soup and I might as well drown in it). On the shorter side with 7k words, great action writing and one of my guilty pleasure fics.

Seas Between Us Braid Hae Roar’d (beaubete)

Made as part of the 2017/18 Reverse Bang, read this to feel as if you’re following Q to Scotland, restoring Skyfall. If you want to not just read about genuine hurt and rebuilding, but experience it, I beg you to check out this one!

Counting Down At The Green light (solitaryjane)

Q isn't afraid of planes and he makes James fall in love with him over his knowladge and his begin someone the agent wasn't expecting but that he likes, very much so.

It’s not that James is surprised to find Q at the bar of the Hoffler Klinik… Well, he is surprised — he’s been under the impression the boffin didn’t fly. But it’s more that he’s surprised it’s Q himself that tracks him down. If Q and Moneypenny are really in so much trouble for helping him, Q could have easily just given M his location and washed his hands of the association. That would have been the sensible thing to do. Then, instead of one somewhat flustered boffin trying to persuade him to come in from the dark, Bond would be faced with a throng of agents ready to haul his arse in via any force necessary.

That would have been rather inconvenient.

It makes James think, perhaps, Q is another ally.

Notes: Unfinished but an excellent read. Highly recommend it.

Summary: Erik is a miserable, grumpy, cantankerous bastard, and he has every fucking right to be. He drew the short end of the stick when he got the Underworld as his domain, and there isn't very much fun to be had in judging and governing dead souls who would rather be anywhere else but with Erik in the depths of Hell.

So when he meets Charles, brilliant and lovely Charles who is more popularly known amongst the mortals as Persephone, and feels the promise of something wonderful that could make his eternally doomed existence infinitely more bearable... you can bet all your drachmas Erik's not going to let Charles go any fucking time soon.

My Barbaric Darling – baehj2915

Summary: Erik is revivified caveman. Charles is the anthropologist(?) taking care of him. This is as ridiculous as it sounds. Romcom misunderstandings and prehistoric wooing ensues.

Swimming with Sharks – Not_You

Summary: Erik used to be a shark. Now he's not, and has to figure out how to be a good human father to his twins. Charles is willing to help.

Eucalyptus leaf of my soul - kageillusionz, ourgirlfriday

Summary: Zookeeper Raven at Taronga Zoo keeps having ideas on how to capitalize on interest in the zoo mascots, Koala Charles and Drop Bear Erik (the only drop bear in captivity!), who have captured the hearts and minds of the public. First it was to introduce prospective mates (It’ll generate attention, Hank. People are perverts. They’d love to see koala porn.). This idea was not effective the first through fifth attempts, as Erik and Charles seemed to show at best polite interest in the newcomer before resuming whatever marsupial debate they had going. However, the resulting lesbian koala orgies did indeed generate interest. Then Raven unveiled the Hug-A-Koala program, which was successful, as the public showed great interest in hugging Charles, and Charles seemed to enjoy being hugged.

Then Raven unveiled the Hug-A-Drop Bear program, and Hank, not for the first time, wished he had a flask handy.

Notes: Yes, they’re Koalas, yes they’re adorable, and yes, Erik is super protective even as a Drop Bear.

Q wonders, briefly, how James could possibly think this is an appropriate time to profess his undying love—or whatever the hell it is he’s attempting to do; though, frankly, the skeleton suit did make him blink a bit stupidly at his laptop—but then something explodes to his left, and Q heaves a long-suffering sigh and snaps at him for ruining everything good in the world. James laughs and carries on wielding his Walther like it isn’t the 7500th replacement that Q has thrown at him.

Or meeting your mate's more than slightly unhinged family. Neither do they train Quartermaster's in juggling pregnancy symptoms with work, protective lovers, and growing your own life form.

and this one depends on whether or not you like the whole abo thing or just babies in general. personally, i like babies, so i liked the whole idea of 00q trying to figure out how to get and grow one for 300k. i thought it was all terribly endearing, although i also get that some people might be a little squeamish about pregnancy, so this one is just up to personal preference.
