I say, play your own way. Don't play what the public wants - you play what you want and let the public pick up on what you doing - even if it does take them fifteen, twenty years.
Thelonious Monk

If you can’t practice, don’t beat yourself up about it.
This is one that I alway have to work on.
But it’s alright if you can’t practice for a day, week, or month due to mental illness or even prioritizing something else over practice for sanity’s sake.
It’s more important to have a good mental health than a good practice routine. To clarify; a consistent practice routine is the best way to accomplish the most during a practice session, the distractions are minimal as you’re in the same place at working at the same time of day, it’s consistent. But taking a day or more off to focus on your mental health is crucial to avoid burnouts and ending up loosing the joy in music.
This being said, sometimes forcing myself back on the horn after a slump is the only way to get back at it. But even then, those practice sessions are just going over the basics, reconnecting the instrument with my brain. And there is no shame to that.
To summarize, prioritizing your mental health over practice is crucial!

Chick Corea, a Grammy award winning jazz musician has died at the age of 79, a statement on his website confirmed.
The musician's career spanned more than five decades. His last album was released in 2020.
Corea is the fourth most nominated artist in the Grammy awards' history with 65 nominations, winning 23 times.
He died on 9 February from a rare form of cancer that was only recently discovered.
Corea played with Miles Davis in the late 1960s and his own group, Return to Forever, were at the forefront of the jazz fusion movement.
"Through his body of work and the decades spent touring the world, he touched and inspired the lives of millions," the statement said.

When practicing I used to worry my family was sitting in the other room judging me. Even if they were doing something else, like baking or vacuuming. I couldn’t help it.
My strategy was to play so quietly so no one could hear me. Which did not help with my sound and tone.
What helped is I wore big noise canceling headphones and played loud enough to hear myself playing through the headphones, which helped me play much louder. Then when I would remove the headphones, it was ingrained in my practice to play with a fuller sound.
Another strategy that I was recommended by my band director was to play outside. That way your sound has farther to travel before returning to you, so you need more air. I haven’t tried this one much, as playing outside can still be a bit stressful. But it is another option.
