Happy 78th Birthday to the great Keith Jarrett!•.*•*.•*¨
Keith Jarrett (born May 8, 1945) is an American jazz and classical music pianist and composer. Jarrett started his career with Art Blakey and later moved on to play with Charles Lloyd and Miles Davis. Since the early 1970s, Jarrett has also been a group leader and solo performer in jazz, jazz fusion, and classical music. His improvisations draw from the traditions of jazz and other genres, including Western classical music, gospel, blues, and ethnic folk music.
His album, The Köln Concert, released in 1975, became the best-selling piano recording in history. In 2008, he was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame in the magazine's 73rd Annual Readers' Poll. In 2003, Jarrett received the Polar Music Prize and was the first recipient to be recognized with prizes for both contemporary and classical music. In 2004, he received the Léonie Sonning Music Prize.Keith Jarrett discography: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Jarrett_discography Facebook.com/JazzImprovisers
Miriam Makeba (Zenzile Miriam Makeba: March 4, 1932 – Nov 9, 2008), nicknamed Mama Africa, was a Grammy Award-winning South African singer and civil rights activist known for becoming the first African artist to globally popularize African music. She is best known for the song "Pata Pata", first recorded in 1957 and released in the U.S. in 1967. Along with Belafonte she received a Grammy Award for her 1965 album An Evening with Belafonte/Makeba.
Makeba campaigned against the South African system of apartheid. After apartheid was disbanded in 1990, Makeba returned to South Africa after 30 years. She continued recording and performing, including a 1991 album with Nina Simone and Dizzy Gillespie, and appeared in the 1992 film Sarafina!.
She was a strong supporter of human rights and continued her activism to her last breath. Upon her death, former South African President Nelson Mandela said that "her music inspired a powerful sense of hope in all of us."
I remember every day how fortunate I am. One of those "fortunes" is my partner and spouse, Jaydn. Yes, it's true that I'm so inspired that sometimes I'm "SpellBound". This piano improv is from my upcoming album, The Piano In the Dining Room. Jazz is music that conveys that all people are equal. This is the music that unites Africa and the Americas, which originated in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Following this, the United Nations UNESCO and the Education, Science and Culture Council declared April 30 as International Jazz Day in November 2011, which began on that day and continues today. .!
