Happy Halloween!!! The untamed pretty please?
a continuation of 1 2 3
Nie Huaisang at ten isn't that jarring, even considering the adult version he left behind, because he's pretty much exactly as Jiang Cheng remembers him.
Seeing Nie Mingjue at thirteen as a sullen child instead of the looming specter of his memories takes some adjusting.
Nie Haoyu wouldn't take no for an answer and it hadn't helped that A-Ying had been thrilled at the invitation and immediately started peppering the Nies with question that they'd answered in good humor the whole way back. Nie Haoyu seems delighted with A-Ying, finding him amusing and impressive and complimenting Jiang Cheng several times on raising such an impressive son.
He just glares back but Nie Haoyu's good humor is unaffected. His memory of the clan leader is spotty at best and he's coming to the slow and horrifying realization that it was Nie Huaisang and not Nie Mingjue that got his personality from their father.
Joining a clan is probably good for them, long term, and the Nies are the only other tolerable major clan, not that he'd ever expected to get practically kidnapped by them.
The only problem is that Nie Haoyu is going to be dead in two years time and if he wants A-Ying and the Nie siblings to have some semblance of a normal childhood, he's going to have to. Do something about that.

You mentioned how you knew you’d be attached to Izzy Hands if you were to watch ofmd, and because of that I feel that someone’s gotta tell you that both Con O’Neill (Izzy’s actor) and Taika Waititi (Blackbeard’s actor) compared their characters’ relationship/dynamic to Judas and Jesus (specifically in Jesus Christ Superstar. And they’re SO right). So. Do with that information as you will
ohhh I see what you're doing. you're trying to lure me in through the biblical blorbos. i see you. it's working but i see you

Oooo for a prompt: Jiang Cheng raises a-Yuan thinking he’s actually Wei Wuxian’s biological child
Anon, you really said “I will cater to Letter’s interests” with this ask.
When Jiang Cheng finds the boy, he’s still grieving. He hasn’t stopped grieving since they received the first terrible news of Jin Zixuan’s demise. He grieves, he rages, he cries and carries on. A circle reminiscent of the schedule followed by a boy burned out by loss.
He grieves when he pulls a-Yuan from the ash. The child is barely breathing, malnourished too, wrapped in an adult’s cloak.
Wei Wuxian, he thinks, and presses the boy close to his neck, hides his face when he hurries down a troubled path where his most trusted disciples wait. They do not question him, they ask nothing at all but how quickly they need to return home.
Fast, is his reply. He’s seventeen again, running across the countryside on bloody feet to get his brother home. He saved Wei Wuxian then, he saves a-Yuan now.
The healer asks him how old the child is and Jiang Cheng has no answer for her. He’s so very small, sleeping off his fever under her care. She thinks he is around two, perhaps a little younger, but they have no way of knowing. Everyone who would, is dead.
Like the rest of Jiang Cheng’s family, all of them, but Jin Ling. His nephew is a healthy baby, chubby fat and dressed in only the softest of silks. He’s loud too, crying out for parents he doesn’t have anymore, in everything but this, the exact opposite of a-Yuan.
Jiang Cheng hadn’t questioned a-Yuan’s presence in the Burial Mounds the first time round, too caught up in all his other anger. Maybe he should’ve stopped fighting with his brother to ask. Why would Wei Wuxian give everything up for the Wen if the Wen wasn’t his?
The following weeks agree with him. A-Yuan grows into Wei Wuxian’s smile, no longer asks for the dead as his memories disappear. Jiang Cheng wonders if his brows resemble Wen Chao, Wen Qing or her brother, any of them. Jiang Cheng has no clear memory of them he cared to keep, but he knows Wei Wuxian, hears him in the way a-Yuan phrases his question.
He knows his brother’s child.
Perhaps the other parent doesn’t matter, maybe the story there is as sad and terrible as every other.
His sister and her husband are dead, his brother is gone, his nephews are orphans both.
Jiang Cheng is tired of losing family.
The clan registry burned when the Wen attacked them. Jiang Yanli painstakingly wrote a new one when they rebuilt. He stares at her handwriting as he adds a-Yuan’s name to it. No one will ever look at this document, see that his sister put Wei Wuxian down as their brother, see that Jiang Cheng never struck him from the books, that he adds his son.
The Yiling Patriarch is dead, his legacy is cruel and terrible and it perished in the Burial Mounds.
A-Yuan is here.
The maids call him Jiang-gongzi, Xiao Yuan, Yuan-er, and a hundred different little endearments they’re quick to adapt for Jin Ling too when Jiang Cheng is allowed to take him to Lotus Pier.
A-Yuan loves his little cousin, and maybe if Jiang Cheng raises them together like this from the start just right, they’ll never break apart.
Only a handful of disciples know just where Jiang Cheng picked his nephew up, everyone else believes him a deceased cousin’s son.
It is for the best.
There’s no place in the world for Wei Wuxian’s son after all, none at all, unless he remains Jiang Cheng’s nephew first.

I love Jiang Cheng and I hope you agree. The most tragic thing about yunmeng siblings is that JC and WWX really love each other the whole time… I like to think they can fix it someday

Someday perhaps....in the meantime, I bet he's loving having dogs run around lotus pier. As a WWX deterrent of course. No therapeutic reasons at all.

jiang cheng / luo binghe? perhaps? can you imagine?
The thing about Jiang Cheng is that he notices and acknowledges all of his disciples and would, I believe, be scrupulously fair to them; at the same time, he very obviously loves Jin Ling the most. Luo Binghe's desperate need to be acknowledged by shizun and only shizun stemmed from SJ's encouragement of bullying, harsh punishments, unequal treatment, and disintegrating mental stability. He went from being grateful that someone chose and wanted him to craving affection from the one person who hated him the most.
With Jiang Cheng, he would have the chance to become grateful, to want to prove himself. But Jiang Cheng isn't constantly qi deviating, he wasn't born a slave, and he wouldn't see himself in white lotus Luo Binghe. He would see Wei Wuxian.
Wei Wuxian, the boy Jiang Cheng spent his childhood shielding from his mother. Wei Wuxian, brilliant and charming. Wei Wuxian, lost to demonic cultivation.
I think YMJ does have inner disciples, which Luo Binghe could easily become since he's such a strong cultivator. I can never decide on if Jiang Cheng has direct disciples (other than Jin Ling for certain techniques) in canon, but if a mini Wei Wuxian joined, I could see Jiang Cheng choosing many different options.
Does he want to save some version of Wei Wuxian? Does he want to keep a close eye on this Wei Wuxian copy? Direct disciple. Luo Binghe is already 50% obsessed.
Does he want Luo Binghe to be surrounded by the shidi and shimei that Wei Wuxian lost? Does he think that he dragged Wei Wuxian down, or that Wei Wuxian left with the Wens to get away from him? Does he recognize how unfair it is to look at a boy and see Wei Wuxian like how Jiang Fengmian saw Wei Changze and Yu Ziyuan saw Cangse Sanren? Inner disciple. Luo Binghe has a possibility to imprint on a martial uncle instead.
But if Luo Binghe is an inner disciple who wants to prove himself worthy to zongzhu, and he notices that Jiang Cheng seems to keep watch over him? If he can compare how zongzhu fusses over Jin Ling with how zongzhu maintains a distance between them? If he tries to get close to Jin Ling so that he can get closer to zongzhu, only for zongzhu to be cold with him for the first time? As if Luo Binghe isn't good enough for his nephew?
Yeah, I can imagine Jiang Cheng and Luo Binghe.

You know what makes me very infuriated with Jiang Cheng (apart from everything else), if he had shut his mouth and was not homophobic for five seconds, none of the confusion of feelings leading up to the temple between Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian would have happened. By the tree scene when Lan Wangji catches him it's pretty clear WWX is both aware of his own and Lan Wangji's feelings and comfortable with them. It's Jiang Cheng who makes him doubt himself and I'm still mad about it.
What fills me up with hate makes this even funnier is that there’s a not insignificant portion of the fandom that has made homophobic Jiang Cheng their Gay Icon™️. The man whose homophobic tantrum almost ruined the actual factual canonical queer relationship in the novel is now fandom’s queer fav.
Nothing but pure comedy.

God, the moment with Spider speaking into the communicator was so heartbreaking. Quaritch must have gotten so hopeful for a second, only to have it ripped out of him immediate after. I can imagine him trying desperately to reach Spider, screaming into the damned device only to be left with total silence, their conflict never truly resolved. I’ll go sob 😭
If you’re willing (though you of course don’t have to), could you perhaps write us a tiny scenario where Spider does talk to Quaritch through the communicator? Perhaps even tells him where he is and rides off with the colonel willingly?
“Quaritch?” Spider’s shaky voice echoed into the void.
“Spider?” The voice that returned to him was sharp, panicked, precise - a knife to the heart. It cut deeply and without mercy. It was painful, it was deadly. Spider's breath caught. “Come on, talk to me son, where are you?”
He… he didn’t know what to do. Quaritch had killed Neteyam, he had almost killed Kiri…
And Spider missed him.
It was impossible. A single tear wound its way out of Spider’s eye as the pain overcame his longing.
“You killed Neteyam,” he whispered, voice barely audible even to him.
A pause. What was running through Quaritch’s mind? Spider couldn’t even picture the man’s face. He was like a memory from years ago, a blurry picture without defined edges. He waited, like he was so used to doing, for Quaritch to make it right. A wave battered his feet where he was crouched.
“Not me kid.”
Spider waited for Quaritch to continue, but nothing more followed. He should have assumed Quaritch would go with this line.
“Yes, you were firing at us.”
“How can you be sure it was me?”
Wow… Spider had not anticipated that. Of course it had been Quaritch. He brought his hand away from the communicator and stared out at the powerful sea surrounding him.
As much as hated to question it, had he actually seen Quaritch shoot the fatal wound? Spider had jumped into the moon pool before Neteyam did, and his brother was still uninjured when he and Lo’ak dived.
He couldn’t be sure.
“Kid? You still with me?”
“You were going to kill Kiri!” Spider threw back angrily, unwilling to be defeated.
“Sully would have given himself up, kid. I would never have had to do that. Now enough with the 20 questions, where are you? I’m coming to get you.”
No. If Quaritch thought that was what was happening here, he had another thing coming.
“You can get wrecked,” Spider muttered in dark exasperation. It wasn’t enough - it would never truly express the depths of his anger towards the man - but it felt good to unleash just a tiny, tiny part of it. Why did it also feel good to picture the man’s scowl on the other end of the line? Why did it buoy his heart, infintesimally?
Fuck.
“Spider.”
Spider didn't know what to say. He cast around for something that would cover the majority of his emotional range. “I wish today never happened,” he settled on, saying it quietly, softly, as if it would make it come true.
“Me too, kid.”
A pause.
“Why did you give up Kiri?”
“Why did you pull me out of the ship?”
Spider closed his eyes. A tornado was raging inside his heart. An inferno of conflicting emotions. He pulled Quaritch out of the water because he didn't want another death on his hands. Had there been any other reason? Deep down Spider knew the answer. He had done such a good job at lying to himself while he was under the ocean, convincing his consciousness that he was only doing it so as not to be a murderer-by-association. But now? The damn had broken, the wall inside Spider's mind had crumbled so spectacularly it left clouds of self hatred fogging his brain.
He didn't want Quaritch to die.
He wanted Quaritch to live.
Frustration growled its way out of his mouth as he groaned at the sky.
"I'm on a rock... a few hundred feet south of the shipwreck."
"Sit tight kid."

Can you explain LWJ kidnapping WWX? It left a bitter taste.
Anon, do you think Wei Wuxian, Modaozushi, scourge of the cultivation world, most intelligent man in the cultivation world, would be actually kidnapped with no options to get away if he wanted to?
He can call Wen Ning with a whistle, he has a clunky flute that can do whatever he needs it to do even if it sounds terrible, he’s not even tied to his donkey. Yes, Lan Wangji says drag him in and that he will take him back to the Cloud Recesses, but he does nothing to actually force Wei Wuxian along until he’s throwing tantrums outside the Cloud Recesses to be an ass.
While Wei Wuxian is certainly crying a lot about going into Gusu, his motivation isn’t to escape. If that were the case, he could have gotten away at any time before the events in the Yashi. Lan Wangji leaves him unattended several times and what does Wei Wuxian do? Wander around and confirm that the Cloud Recesses hasn’t changed at all from his childhood memories when he used to sneak out to Caiyi all the time, confirming that he knows all the ways out, annoy the juniors and go digging around the Cold Springs. Later after Lan Wangji has gone to sleep, instead of leaving then, he instead crawls into bed with Lan Wangji to annoy him. The next morning Lan Wangji leaves him alone again to deal with the arm, another time when Wei Wuxian could just leave if he actually wanted to, and instead Wei Wuxian intervenes and helps.
It’s another way that the beginning of the book is incredibly misleading before you really get to know these characters. Wei Wuxian isn’t being kidnapped because he’s going along willingly because his actual goal isn’t to get away from Lan Wangji, it’s to find out just how he’s changed in the last thirteen years and how far he can push him until he reacts.
It is not a story of a kidnapper and his victim in those first few chapters, it is a story of a man directly lying to the reader about his motivations because what he actually wants has to be sourced out through his actions, not the nonsense he cheerfully admits he spouts regularly.
Wei Wuxian and Shen Qingqiu both have a habit of having their fans take them rather too literally at their words rather than paying attention to what their actions show is the lie in those words. Wei Wuxian does not feel threatened or upset in those early days; what he is doing is the same thing we see him doing twenty years earlier the first time he and Lan Wangji met, pulling on his pigtails until Lan Wangji reacts.

Hello Fiona! What is your opinion on In My Life being about Paul?
Hi anon!
I'm like a semi-contrarian about this, but also Not Really.
What we know about In My Life is that John both described it as a really personal song and also didn't really elaborate on what the lyrics meant, electing instead to provide the backstory. It could mean he was being specifically cagey about the song's subject but I also get the feeling he was just a bit pissed the entire time he was doing his song rundown for Playboy 1980 lol – which is understandable IMO; he probably would have preferred to talk more about his newer music than going over songs from 15 years ago again.
Now, given the timeline of when the song was written, I've always seen three possible candidates for who it's about: Paul, Cynthia, and my personal pet theory: Julian.
At this point, I do kind of think Paul is the most likely subject of the song, though I'm not sure that's entirely rational on my part. Partly it's the I Know (I Know) lyrical connection (a song I am pretty much 100% on the Paul train for); partly it would make sense that, if Stu and Pete are also being referenced in the song, it would be natural for John to draw a comparison between them and Paul, his current best friend. A thing I find interesting in this context (and the Julian context) is that the song isn't necessarily speaking to a romantic love interest. It certainly could be (and I do tend to think John came to think of Paul that way at some point if not necessarily by 1965 already) but it also might not. Especially when you consider the "acid mindset", which John was getting acquainted with at the time: romanticizing your friendship with your artistic partner could slot into that perfectly, without any of it necessarily being sexually-tinged (or without one having to admit to oneself that it is sexually-tinged).
As for Cynthia, it's absolutely fascinating to me (in a bad way) that she is not commonly held to be the subject of the song. In My Life is a love song, but scholarship seems to stop listening after the first minute. I don't think this is because the song intrinsically can't be about her, I think this just speaks to how egregiously the JohnandYoko narrative (or even the JohnandPaul narrative, in these circles) dominates discussions. It would certainly make sense for John not to want to admit this song might've been for the wife he mistreated by 1980. This emotional letter John wrote Cyn is from just around the time the song was written, meaning it wouldn't be unthinkable for him to in a sense "renew his vows to her" in form of this song.
Which brings me to the Julian theory, that sort of combines all the points I made above. On the one hand, the song isn't explicitly romantic, and I think the line "When I think of love as something new" makes a lot of sense referring to parenthood. Plus, "But of all these friends and lovers" could also suggest that the you is neither a friend, nor a lover. And the letter I linked above is actually mostly about John feeling regretful about how he's not been around for Julian. "I think it’s been a slow process my feeling like a real father!" he writes, more than 2 years after his son was born, which IMO would make sense of this song coming so "late", if it were for Julian. And again I imagine John would not cop to it in 1980, as he wouldn't for Cyn or Paul.
On the whole, I think I find Paul slightly more likely, but to be honest, that might just be bias on my part, so I don't commit to it fully, and I think the other readings are very interesting at least. In My Life as a song from a parent to a child is wonderful!

Hello there! Can I request a mdzs headcanon for Lan Xichen, Nie Mingjue and Jiang Cheng as parents? Thank you in advance!
A/N: sorry if I responded late!!!! I was busy yesterday doing…things…
ON TO THE SHOW— I mean Hc-!!
Lan Xichen, Nie Mingjue, & Jiang Cheng:
Fandom: MDZS
Y/N Gender: uhhhh….ANY but maybe leaning towards female..
TW: fluff…lots of fluff and wholesome shit going on
Lan Xichen:
Short answer?
Wholesome, loving, doting, soft af papa over here
The moment you told him you’re gonna adopt/pregnant with a child
“Y/N’er…you’re with a child…?”
He cried…flat out cried when he found out
You worried as you try to comfort
He merely shrugged it off with a laugh
Expect this man to seriously dote on you if your pregnant
He will cuddle you, sing songs, and etc.
But that can be another hc for now
If you both adopted, expect him to be tender af
I can see him with a twin set of boy and girl
Or reference to as the Dragon and Phoenix
Lan Qiren is silently approving and already setting schedule up
Lan Xichen would not hesitate to teach them EVERYTHING
He would even allowed them to suck on Liebing
Flute dads doot do doot-!
Lan Xichen would always reassure them whenever they have a nightmare
Even keeping his door open to comfort
You both would be sleeping until two totters be rumbling in crying
Lan Xichen would smile and let you sleep
He would literally pick them up and comfort them as he continue to do work
Expect Lan Xichen to always be clingy
He already clingy as a husband but phew!
He would be attached and have literal commission on spiritual device of children safety from Wei Wuxian™︎
He would literally fight any man off with a smile for his daugther
His son, he would be careful on the women but lenient
The daughter will have your beauty or handsomeness
She is very calm and collected
Also, the older one by a minute
The son is more broad shouldered and tough
He is silent towards stranger but opens up to be cheerful and loving like his father
Okay maybe not the silent one—he got it from his ShuShu (Wangji)
Lan Xichen is the type of dad to literally have the whole clan to cheer them on whenever they’re in competitions
If his daugther loves to learn cultivation, he will endorse it
If his son wants to be a herbalist or physician, endorsing it
If both his children wants to be travelers, ENDORSE
Seriously, he will give everything to these bundle of joy
Don’t worry, they will be humble and take after their father demeaner
“A-Die, I grown some broccoli (it’s Chinese broccoli btw and it’s good!)”
“I see baobei.”
Yeah, if his sweet darlings give him a mud pie, he would try it literally no question ask
Definitely doting, definitely sweet, definitely papa material
Oh yeah—!
Secretly will give them sweets and pets
But honestly, Lan xichen will raised them to be better than he was
Nie Mingjue:
If he is able to live long enough, but for this. He will
Nie Mingjue will be shocked and stop
Definitely will need Nie Huasiang to snap him to reality
Definitely will doubt himself and wonder how long he can live to see them grow
Nie Mingjue is a gentle giant, but he is strict
Definitely raised them like he did Nie Huasiang
But only softer and more lenient
“Da’Ge! Why are you so mean to me!!”
“Cause you haven’t been a good ShuShu, how many times must I tell you to pick up your ink and brushes?!”
“…”
“A’Jue, be nice to Sang’er.”
“A’Y/n!—“
“Even Jiejie/Gege agrees!”
“Did I say that I agree? You need to be careful when there’s kids around.”
“…” - Nie Mingjue, Nie Huasiang
“JIEJIE/GEGE!!!~~”
“HUASIANG! LET GO OF THEM!!”
Yeah, Huasiang was the “first child” lmao
Nie Mingjue is horribly careful when holding them as infants
Will be tired but still doting
Definitely strict and hopes they don’t have to go through sabers
You and him will have a little boy or girl
But my bets are in the boys until many years later if possible to have a little boy again
The older son will gentle and take after you
The younger son is temperamental but has a baby face you canNOT say no to
The older son will most likely have interest in the arts, but he sticks to saber and military prowess liek his father
Definitely pouts like Nie Mingjue
He will regard Jin Guangyao warily
The younger son will be doted on by EVERYONE
Even Jin Ling and Sizhui will dote on him
I mean— he is young
Nie Mingjue will make sure they’re successful and have intellect
Definitely will send them to Gusu for schooling
Oh yeah, the younger son is a huge romantic like you (lmao—)
Nie Mingjue will definitely sing lullaby’s to them no matter what
Also, he will FIGHT anyone who messes with his child (children-)
Basically a strict yet gentle giant of a pop
He will nurture them while clumsily so
He will learn..eventually with you on tow
Jiang Cheng:
Jiang Cheng will be startled out of his wits
So tell him during lunch
He will be happy internally but crying outside
“A-a’Cheng?!”
“I’m not crying….”
“Jiujiu, why are you crying?”
“Shut up brat!”
“…” - Jin Ling
Prepare the PIER!
Jiang Cheng will want to keep it down on the low, cause of that person
Yeah…that didn’t work…
“I can’t believe my previous DiDi got a bun in the oven~!!”
“WEI. WU. XIAN!!!”
You both will have a quadruplets
Like seriously…
One older boy, and three girls
The brother is a fucking carbon copy of Jiang Cheng to the bone
I’m not even joking-
He will frown and always be pouty
You will chuckle at amusement of seeing them copying each other
There will be dogs, yes.
Jiang Cheng will literally give the whole world to them
Thing is, Jiang is insecure on how he will raise them
In one hand, he don’t wanna be a neglectful ghosting father
On another, he don’t wanna be a angry toxic mom cause of past affairs
Definitely will question everything, but you comfort him throughout it
He will be strict but falls every single time when they cry
Luckily, due to having Jin Ling he be a great dad
Though, same scenario as Huasiang, doting at fuck
Jin Ling will actually babysit them in Lanling so you both can just be with each other
Oh yeah, the girls are all variations
The second oldest is similar to Yanli but has your traits within
The third oldest is completely wild and will not let hesitate to annoy her older brother at times
The youngest is shy and a huge dog person
There is now 8 dogs: Magpie, Magnolia, Diamond the 2nd, princess, flower, Dragon, Tea, and Lotus
Expect Jiang Cheng tirelessly work and take care of four
You will help him out and demand him to sleep
The quadruplet will be innocent (except that the fourth one calls them out all the time)
Basically expect them to be a variation of Jiang Cheng and you
One of them have the same type of men like you do
It’s the fourth one—
Jiang Cheng is hella protective of the girls
The oldest son is also protective
If anyone man ask one of the daughters out, hold Jiang Cheng back before he breaks their leg
Will pout and sulk if they married to another
Jin Ling will be the best cousin, he will also be harsh on the suitors
Sizhui will sigh and teach the 2nd oldest how to do music cultivation
Basically, a protective yet soft dad who wants the best
A/N: I hope they’re to your liking Anon~!! Honestly, I had fun with this one. ^^

More of the Succubus Curse!AU. I’m just imagining the Spider-Man pointing meme when all three major Lan’s realize they’ve all fantasized about the same man. Of course all of their fantasies were very different, LQR was imagining a sweet ingenue JC begging to thank him for all his hard work teaching him by letting himself be further taught dual cultivation one on one. LXC thinks JC would be as firm as he is in the war room and would show LXC exactly how he wants to use him. LWJ mostly imagines putting a mouthy JC in his place or being dual seduced by both Jiang boys. Of course the other two legs of 3zun aren’t spared embarrassment. NMJ mostly likes to imagine JC dressing and acting like his mom. Being viscous and steam rolling any weakness. JGY mostly imagines setting himself up to be JC’s savior from Wen imprisonment and being thankful enough to heap praise and respect on JGY. He follows whatever JGY wants because he trusts him that much.
I imagine there’s a lot of arguments about characterization once people get over the initial embarrassment since it seems like JC just naturally inspires these feelings. Maybe there’s some latent Yu succubus blood the people think. The amount of spite RPF jumps Sky high and JC never knows peace again.
It would be very funny if NHS was immune to Succubus-jie's very helpful curse, because he had never fantasized about being personally involved with JC. JC should treat him like a refuge because FINALLY someone who isn't nasty!! NHS, importantly, is responsible for a minimum of 20% of all Hot Sect Leaders In Your Area RPF booklets. Because JC's hanging out with him, he's close enough to view at least a few of these fantasies displayed, and make perfect replicas of the others from gossip.
JC: Lan-laoshi thinks I'm a delicate maiden.
NHS: And how does that make you feel? 📝
JC: It's nice that he thought I was such a good student. 🥺
NHS: Bleak, yet inspiring!
