Some highlights of my experience at FanX yesterday (for context, I was cosplaying as Trilla Suduri from Jedi: Fallen Order)!
Walking past a Numa cosplayer to which I said, "NuMA?" and she immediately replied "TrILLA??"
The same thing happening when I passed a Merrin cosplayer.
Talking with the artists and finding out how they art.
Someone saying to "Make way for the Inquisitor!" as I walked through a little crowded area.
A DnD dice vendor saying, "Come get your shiny math rocks!" in a Renaissance voice.
Talking with a guy who made a Star Wars fan film.
Eating Mango cotton candy.
Standing next to actual members of the 501st Legion fan chapter (including an OUTRAGEOUSLY TALL Darth Vader).
Watching my eldest brother meet Nolan North (the voice of Nathan Drake from Uncharted).
Nolan North geeking out over my father's "Taco Cat spelled backwards is Taco Cat" t-shirt.
A young Omega cosplayer asked to take a picture with me.

But he’s voiced by the same guy playing the Grand Inquisitor in Obi-Wan Kenobi, yet with a more Rebels-accurate design — perhaps they will retcon that that’s just how they age then? Heads grow taller, lines run deeper, with age?
Wait wait is this in response to my Jedi Fallen Order sequel thing where I said it probably wasn't the GI? I just saw comments saying it wasn't on the YouTube video and trusted they knew more about the lore than me.
Is it Friend's voice?? It actually seemed more gravelly and menacing so I wasn't certain. Friend played him as very snooty and nasally and I wasn't getting that vibe. (I could go on and on about that but I'll save that for another time.)
If it is him, I really like that design change. He looks scary instead of like a middle-aged cosplayer. It's frustrating that Disney didn't put that same amount of effort into the show when they could have. It's good to see something was faithful to the Pau'an design from ROTS .

@lewdladylily since we were on the topic of crossplay, allow me to be a massive nerd and submit my tier list of crossplay ideas arranged in order of riskiness, some of which I have already rambled about. This is probably really dumb but you can’t stop me: Level 0 aka “Cheating”: This is an honorable mention that includes several different styles, but generally cosplay of male characters that either look or present in a feminine manner and/or are canonically crossdressing. Examples include: Sokka as a Kyoshi Warrior from ATLA, Gerudo Link from BOTW, Crossdressing Cloud from FF7, Astolfo from Fate, Gwyndolin from Dark Souls Level 1: Female characters that dress very modestly and/or practically, or even wear clothes that would fit on a man, making it very easy to hide inconvenient physical traits underneath, or even who wear some type of face covering. It can also include characters that barely look feminine at all from an outside perspective (To be entirely honest, this is not the most fun category to do crossplay). Examples include: Samus Aran (in full armor) from Metroid, Captain Phasma from Star Wars, GLaDOS from Portal, Orisa from Overwatch Level 2: Same as above, female characters that dress quite modestly and/or practically or wear clothes that would fit on a man with a few adjustments, but have visible feminine traits and/or behaviors that need to be taken into account when creating the look, although they are still very forgiving. Examples include: Kyoshi warriors from ATLA, Second Sister from Jedi: Fallen Order Level 3: Female characters that are presented in more modest or practical manners but present obvious feminine traits, even on their outfits,, and usually or often go with their faces uncovered, that need more care to replicate successfully. Examples include: Sisters of Battle from Warhammer 40,000, Commander Shepard (female) from Mass Effect Level 4: Female characters that dress in a somewhat modest manner still but very clearly female-presenting manner, although relatively tomboyish. Their character or presentation can provide opportunites for the cosplayer to hide inconvenient traits. This is also the point where makeup becomes very important and where the wearer needs to be good at making themselve look feminine. Examples includes: Tracer from Overwatch, K/DA Akali from League of Legends, Ryuko from Kill la Kill (Senketsu inactive) Level 5: Female characters that dress and/or act in a much more feminine way, and who start to look more seductive. This level and above are basically the reason why crossplay exists at all, and requires a ton of effort to pull off properly, although some of the outfits can, again, provide opportunities. Examples include: 2B from NieR Automata, Lux from League of Legends, D.va from Overwatch Level 6: Female characters that dress and act in a very obvious feminine way, but whose appearance provide far less opportunities for the cosplayer to hide their true gender (usually from skintight bodysuits or exposed skin). Examples include: Bayonetta from, uh... Bayonetta, Cortana from Halo, Widowmaker from Overwatch, Zero Suit Samus from Metroid Level 7: The impossible. The character straight up wears a bikini, or wears very little at all, making it very difficult for any crossplayer to pull off properly while successfully hiding their true gender. Examples include: Jinx from League of Legends, Ryuko from Kill la Kill (Senketsu active), Quiet from Metal Gear Solid V

Time To Shine Thursday
Its another Time to Shine Thursday! I was tagged by the wonderful @lightasthesun! Before I go on a rant about how much I love all the content creators out there, here are the rules:
This tag game was created in hopes of reaching at least a few people and creating more awareness for the creator-side of tumblr. Time to Shine Thursday is inspired by these posts and meant to be for all artists alike: writers, editors, poets, GIF makers, cartoonist etc. This is me giving you all an excuse to show off!
Only rule: Be as thirsty for attention as you want to be! Link one of your old fics/art pieces or one that didn’t didn’t get enough attention, link a work you loved to create or share a draft from your newest WIP. Or do all of these. Be greedy. Show your art. Crave attention. Be proud. And don’t forget to give your friends an excuse to show off theirs!
Additional note: Please consider dropping one of your favorite hidden gems by an other author along with your own work so others can enjoy it as well and so that it doesn’t stay buried any longer!
There are so many wonderful content creators out there keeping us going and now more than ever I am eternally grateful for the work they have done that has kept me sane through what was a monster of a year for all of us. So many fic and meta writers, artists, cosplayers, editors and gifmakers have brought me joy over the last year including but not limited to:
@clownakin, @kyber-erso, @skywalking-across-the-galaxy, @manmehakkaur, @no-human-has-legs-that-skinny, @elliewritesstories, @lilabard, @midnightlie, @minniepresents, @laciefuyu, @fictionisalwaysbetter, @midnight-wonder, @shadowmaat, @captainfaultyprogramming, @arya-durin-51, @suja-janee, @glimmerglanger, @gffa, @blackkatmagic, @eli-371, @cacodaemonia, @bedlamsbard, @new-anon
Thank you so, so much for all the love and joy you bring with your creativity.
But this is partially a shameless plug for my work too so I’ll start off by once again linking my art blog where I post digital paintings and sketches for (mostly) the Star Wars and Marvel fandoms, and my AO3 account. Last time, I posted a snippet from a WIP companion piece to my Darksider!Ahsoka AU, Through All the Watches of the Night, which I still haven’t finished because it got so long I’ve had to split it into multiple parts. Part I is just waiting on some editing before I post it so should be coming very soon!
In the meantime, I thought I’d share a snippet from a from-scratch rewrite (and total narrative overhaul) of my half-decade-old ROTS AU, The Hero’s Descent, that’s in the works. I’ve wanted to rewrite it for a long time because I’ve had my mind changed on a lot of things since I wrote the original, got some new ideas that would improve the story and wanted to continue the series that fic kicked off without having to stick to some of the narrative and character decisions I’d made before.
So far the rewrite includes a major B-plot surrounding Rex, Ahsoka and the 322nd on Mandalore, Obianidala taking the place of the central Anidala ship of the original, and a very different (and hopefully more positive) view of the Jedi Order than the version I wrote when I was 16 and new to the fandom.
Cable nudged the nose of his starfighter carefully through the debris towards the source of the anomaly the scanners had picked up. At first, there was nothing to see but great ugly chunks of Seppie dreadnought. A few droids floated past his cockpit viewport, sparking or dismembered, not worth worrying about. Half a vulture droid scraped over his port-side wing and he grimaced at the vibration it sent up through his seat.
‘I don’t see anything,’ Drifter grumbled. ‘What’s the betting it's just something throwing up interference?’
‘Just keep looking.’ Cable scanned the slowly shifting debris with his eyes, searching for the distinctive white armour of a fallen brother-
He almost missed it.
From this distance, it was almost impossible to see, but the flap of a black cloak emerged from a tiny star field of shattered transparisteel in the shadow of the ruined clanker flagship and caught the light of the sun behind it, drawing Cable’s eye. ‘Over there!’ he said and turned his Headhunter towards it, a black shape against an even blacker void.
‘That’s not a brother,’ Drifter said. ‘What is it?’
Cable sidled his starfighter up to the thing and gaped. The body had two arms and two legs in the proportions one would expect for a human male, but it was clad in dark brown fabric - not the white armour of the clone troopers or the grey uniforms of the officers, nor the brown and tan of the Jedi robes.
The most distinctive thing about it, though, even more so than the cape floating around the body’s shoulders, was that it had neither head nor hands - and no signs of blood. Lightsaber wounds. Every clone trooper knew what those looked like by now.
‘Contact High Command,’ Cable ordered. ‘Tell them I think we’ve found the body of Count Dooku.’
- Chapter One, The Hero’s Descent Untitled Rewrite
If any of these things interested you, feel free to come talk to me about them! And be sure to send your fave content creators some love!
Stay Safe,
May/Evan x

OKAY GUYS, I’ve had all weekend to think this though so here is my essay on the Ahsoka’s lEkKuS & mOnTrAls Debate
I’m not here to cause waves, just here to point a view things out. I have a few points I would like to make about the costumes choices that they went with for Ahsoka’s character design in the latest episode of The Mandalorian  because to be honest, I’m just really tired of seeing everyone here being so damn picky.
There could be a few different reasons as to why the Mandalorian team changed the look of Ahsoka “headdress” (ie. Lekkus and Montrals), one of them mainly being for practicality and stunt work. Also it could be that the team was wanting to stick to practical effects instead of CGI as much as possible like they have been for the entire series.
But you have all heard those arguments already so here’s a hot take on another reason:
It's a marketing thing.
She already has new toys and collectables (A FORCE FX LIGHTSABER!) scheduled to come out right off the back of the series ending of The Clone Wars as well as her new appearance in The Mandalorian. They had to make her appeal to the new fans of the TCW/Mandalorian/Star Wars so they kept a similar silhouette that's easily marketable and recognizable.
Star Wars has gained a HUGE amount of popularity from new fans over the past 5 years due to the Sequel Trilogy (mainly it has grown in 2019-2020). I would say Episodes VII, VIII, & IX had the same effect to new Star Wars fans as the musical, Hamilton, had with the general public; it got you interested in a thing so you went and researched what is was based off of to see what it’s all about. Simple, right?
Except we have a huge factor that was added to this Hyper-fixation-like equation.
New Media Thing + Stress + Quarantine = BOREDOM which then = Escapism through Hyper-fixation
At the end of 2019, as Covid started to rear it annoying head, right at the launch of Disney+, right as The Rise of Skywalker was released digitally early, right as The Mandalorian was gaining traction, right as Jedi Fallen Order came out (the first single-player Star Wars adventure game since The Force Unleashed in 2008), AND people were forced to stay home until further noticed.
If you were on TikTok in the beginning of 2020 because you were bored due to quarantine, you, like me, witnessed a whole lot of people CONSUMED all Star Wars content by the droves because for the first time, everything Star Wars was readily available on a brand new streaming service, Disney+, that was easily affordable (or free to Verizon Customers) and your casual friend who only watched the Sequel Trilogy now has access to the whole Saga and more.
In 2020, The Clone Wars series is ranked 3rd most watched on Disney+, being beaten by The Simpsons at #2 and (unsurprisingly) The Mandalorian at #1 (Rebels ranted #11 on this list) After those kinds of numbers, it’s safe to say that Ahsoka’s most familiar and most popular look/style would be from The Clone Wars series.
Now on to the more practical side as to why I think they went with the “shorter Lekkus & Montrals”
As an amateur costume designer/cosplayer, I can say without a doubt it's challenging to even WALK in something as cumbersome as her “headpiece” would be if they made it as large as it appears in Rebels, let alone attempt stunts in it. Just ask any Hatsune Miku cosplayer and they will tell you that wig is a nightmare and you don’t even want to THINK about dancing in it.
Take for example, David Prowess' stunts in the iconic Vader suit in the Original Trilogy. I know canonically, that suit is supposed to be restrictive and hard to move in but that doesn't mean you have to make it actually hard to move in for the stuntmen/actor. I wouldn’t really know if there is much you can do to make The Suit more flexible, so I applaud Prowess’ work because I can’t even comprehend how he would be able to move, let alone SEE in that thing, especially in the brilliantly choreographed duel in Empire Strikes Back.
Now with some costumes, You can cheat and make it a lot easier to move in while keeping its integrity. For example, ol' Luke Skywalker at the end of The Force Awakens, his cloak was clearly stitched to his tabards/tunic because a cloak like that is heavy so it can easily slip off in the wind or when you de-hood yourself. To solve this problem, they "fudged" it by stitching it to his tunic. Simple and easy to hide (which they did not do well, I’m afraid)
Also before you come at me with the whole “BuT sHaKk Ti iN II & III” spiel, keep in mind in The Attack of the Clones, the characters like Kit Fisto, Lumimara, and Shakk Ti all had costumes with “headdresses”, all had MINIMAL screen time and were hardly shown fighting in they're costumes. I haven't seen the movie in a while but I would hazard a guess that if they are shown fighting, it’s very brief or it's heavily CGIed which is the path that The Mandalorian crew doesn't want to go down. I would say almost all the aliens in the show are entirely practical effects, aside from Grogu in a couple of instances which is astounding compared to the Sequel Trilogy’s heavy uses of CGI aliens (except for Force Ghost Yoda, they did right making him a little puppet again. That made the 10-year-old in me so happy)
I guess the point I’m trying to make is just PLEASE stop being so damn picky! We have something REALLY good here with The Mandalorian and if you just look back in recent history, “fans” bullying the creators and cast of Star Wars can have damaging effects to the series and the people in general. To name a few examples:
People complained about not wanting the film Solo, so the Kenobi Film was canceled. Two points on that, the film was released at a bad time and now we are getting a Kenobi show, so that’s a bright side
“Fans” bullied Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico in The Last Jedi) and she now has no online presence.
“Fans” complained about the PLOT of The Last Jedi so they tried to undo it all the with fluster cluck that was The Rise of Skywalker, ruining established character arcs for Finn, Kylo Ren, Rey, Rose, Poe, etc (but also idk why Abrams and Johnson didn’t share both their visions of the series bUT WHATEVER, I’m not here to debate the Sequel Trilogy)
Let’s go back further, “Fans” bullied Hayden Christensen to the point where he hardly acted in anything where he should have been getting jobs left and right after the success of Revenge of the Sith, but nooOOOoo, he was tOo WhIneY. Homeboy strait up went and had to to try farm-living to get away from the “fans”
AND DON’T GET ME STARTED on Jake Lloyd, who was literally TEN YEARS OLD in The Phantom Menace, who left his acting career because of bullies in school and constant hounding from the press. That kid’s life was ruined by bullies.
In closing, to all the purists, the gate-keeping jerk-wads, and the basement dwelling “fans” who turn their noses up at anything that came out after 1983, you can take Kylo Ren’s absurd lightsaber and shove it where the sun don’t shine.
Stop ruining Star Wars for the Fans who actually enjoy it and are having fun. GOSH
